Background/History: Leo's History @ Pandora Hearts Wiki

Personality: Upon first inspection, Leo might seem like a subdued sort of individual. He's outgoing, well-mannered, and honest. More often than not, he appears to be in a good mood, addressing others kindly and speaking in flowery tones. In the right company, he might be just that, if not for a bit quirky; however, those who are more familiar with him know far better than to think such things.

Social activity is hardly a predilection of his, and is handled much more like an obligation than it is for enjoyment purposes; he'd much rather prefer the company of a good book. Reading allows him to forget himself, taking him away to other worlds or leaving him buzzing with new information - a welcome escape from a burdened life, heavy with self-loathing and things he cannot hope to understand. Communication outside of the few that he holds dear is made mostly by necessity, such as when he needed to apologize for his master's shortcomings, or on his behalf in some sense.

When he does speak, regardless of to whom, it is honest... but often so much so, that it's awkward and painfully to the point. Pleasant demeanor and smiles could only do so much to pad what he says, however, be it intentional or not. It's a flaw that he's particularly unaware of, as when he does mean to be insulting, it's incredibly and blatantly caustic - although, still delivered with a smile. Unless he is genuinely upset, that is.

In the event that he should become unsettled, it often results in a violent outburst. If a person that he isn't familiar with attempts to touch him, he might lash out and resume some space between them, for example; however, there have been far more extreme circumstances in which he has become violent when pushed too far, including nearly killing a man - and he would have, too, had he not been stopped. He is the sort that does things at his own pace, and dislikes to move beyond his area of comfort.

One of his most sensitive points was being forced to see the world around him. Ever since he could remember, he could see golden lights everywhere about him that no one else could. It is questionable whether his mother did it to protect Leo, or to prevent unwanted attention, but she had him grow out his hair to cover his face. It became his veil of protection, something that he needed to hide behind. He heard voices in his head, but with time, he learned how to block them out until they faded away. The world as he knew it had been entirely confusing, and he often times thought himself to be mad. Certainly, he was aware that he was different from everyone else, though he felt it to be so in the worst possible way.

The power of the Abyss within him distorted the reality around him, creating misfortune in his wake. At a very young age, he lost his father to an unfortunate accident - and at twelve, his mother was consumed by a chain, leaving him orphaned. Elliot was fatally attacked by a chain attempting to protect him, and in deciding to save the other boy by contracting him to said chain, doomed him to a life plagued by murder at his own hands, and ultimately, death. Not only did he fault himself for always being 'the weird one', but also for his existence causing misery to the person he cared for most.

Elliot was his most precious person, indeed. He holds the young man in very high esteem, and would have done anything within his power to ensure his safety, going as far as requesting that Oz kill him (Leo) if he should lose himself to madness and become a threat. It was through peculiar circumstances that he and Elliot became friends, but their starkly contrasting personalities allowed them to balance one another out in such a way that they bonded dearly. The other boy's quick temper and outbursts caused Leo to become more level-headed in turn, and through his faults, he was able to observe and improve his own. He learned how to interact with children and express affection, notably, and improve communication with others. Unfortunately, he failed to pick up on any of the talents with weaponry that Elliot possesses, nor any of his fantastic perception; Leo's positively useless with swords and guns, despite carrying them for the purpose of serving as a bodyguard, and he's rather clueless to his surroundings. They still make a good team, in any case, as Leo's cleverness and utter lack of apprehension allows him to follow Elliot into trouble without hesitation.

The tragedy that resulted in Elliot's death lead on to shine light on many aspects of Leo's previously confusing life. While he no longer felt that he was mad in the sense of seeing and hearing things that didn't exist (which he now knows to be the lights of the abyss, and the voices of Glen), his instability worsened, leading him to become far more prone to displaying manic-like symptoms. Unable to cope with the stress of losing the most important person to him, he dissolved into and uncontrollable state of screaming over his corpse. Likewise, he was unable to be pressed too far, concerning the details of the situation surrounding the death afterward, without dissolving into similar fits.

The fault he took upon himself was traumatic in itself, but he's ultimately lost the foundation that kept him together. It seems that his personality has regressed to its past state before meeting Elliot, if not worsened, ever since. An excellent example would be that he vehemently objects to physical contact, as he once did before, or how he has been shown to regard some with an outwardly abrasive and verbally abusive manner. Though, now, it may not simply reflect his displeasure with the world, but his own self as well.

Since, he has accepted his fate as the next vassal of Glen Baskerville, in an effort to give himself new purpose - but, in truth, he has only become more unpredictable, and enabled himself to become more out of control and destructive. His actions are so reckless, Oz has stated that he is trying to eradicate those around him, but rather, himself.
