Personality: Tetsu is a puppy. That’s the first thing to get out of the way; his bark is worse than his bite, he’s loud and energetic and always nipping at the heels of someone who ticks him off. Tetsu almost never runs out of steam; he keeps going and going until he’s completely exhausted himself--and sometimes even then he’ll just keep going until his own body gives out. His determination knows no bounds and once he has a goal in mind he works very hard to complete it. Case in point is the fact his main goal in life is to become stronger and avenge his parents’ murder, and he constantly works at improving his sword skills to get stronger.
His main problem is that he’s a very emotional boy who wears his heart on his sleeves. He gets mad easily, he cries easily, and he can sometimes blow up and fly completely off the handle if he’s riled up enough (which, as expected, is also very easy to do). He curses and flails, challenges people much stronger than him to fights he can’t possibly win all on the premise of defending his pride.
He is also a fiercely loyal young boy; for instance, despite his grumbling over Hijikata and how much he hates him, he doesn’t allow anyone else to badmouth the man and will defend his honor as best he can. He’s also loyal to both Yamazaki, whose sister he promised to teach how to have fun (he takes this duty very seriously) and Saya, who he frequently visits and protects (and seems very oblivious to her crush on him). Even Suzu, who has repeatedly tried to kill him later in the series, is not an exception, as Tetsu truly believes with all his heart that he can save the boy and they can still be friends. He’s stubborn and hard-headed about it, blindly charging forward with all the determination he can muster, and refusing to give up on his ideals.
Fire and ‘killing auras’ send him into a panic where he’ll completely shut down due to the trauma of being trapped in the closet and watching his parents being murdered as the house burned down around him. Because of this too the only way he can sleep comfortably is if he’s in a closet. If his PTSD is triggered too hard he will lock himself down in the closet and refuse to come out, biting and clawing like an animal at anyone who tries to come after him.
Despite his time seeing death, Tetsu remains fairly naive towards other areas, specifically towards romance and sex. He gets embarrassed and flustered easily when it comes to most girls, and doesn’t seem to understand what the purpose of a brothel is to be (he gets the offer to spend the night with Saya and he declines because he has other things to do and doesn’t understand why Hana’s so exasperated with it). He spends his time with Saya in the brothel playing games and talking with her.
Abilities/Powers: no special abilities! He’s still learning how to fight with a sword. Items/Weapons: - One bloodied Shinsengumi Haori - One short sword - One wooden practice sword Sample Entry: [The phone is flipped around a little, giving a dizzying view of the road, some buildings, the sky, and a flash of shockingly red hair before it settles on a young boy's face. He looks like he's no older than 9 or 10, mouth turned down in an aggravated frown. It's been too much time wasted asking random people for help on how to operate this stupid contraption to get it to work. Tetsu is not a happy puppy.]
Oy, whoever kidnapped me, who do you think you're messing with? You can't just kidnap me like that! I'm Ichimura Tetsunosuke of the Shinsen--
[He suddenly cuts himself off, grimacing. He's not supposed to go around just saying stuff like that.] Er... A-anyway, you better drop me back off in Kyoto right away! My master'll kick your ass. [He wonders if Hijikata's happy he's gone. He can just see the man throwing a party and getting tea that isn't spilled all over the floor and drinking to not having to deal with the brat that was Tetsu.
...He can't even get sad, just pissed that this imaginary party was going on] Hey, Okit-- Er... Hiji-- Shin-- [Tetsu scowls, throwing his hands up in exasperation]
How am I supposed to look for anyone if I can't say their names!? [Angry now, he grips the phone] Tatsu! Is anyone here!?
Sample Entry Two: It was….difficult, to say the least. Not only had he ended up somewhere so different from his home that the level of “not funny” had looped around to being “almost absolutely hysterical,” but there were several different people here claiming to be members of the Shinsengumi. As if that wasn’t confusing enough, more than one person had claimed to be the same person.
It was impossible. He’d yelled and stomped his feet and pointed his fingers in peoples’ faces and told them to stop with the impostor-ing, but it hadn’t worked. They’d known too many things that only the real ones would know, the swords, the haori… Tetsu grit his teeth. But all of them were far too pretty to be the Shinsengumi he knew-- except Souji, who wasn’t nearly pretty enough. It was as if the entire world had turned upside down and backwards and Tetsu wasn’t sure which way was up.
So he’d done as any frustrated young boy would do-- he took to throwing rocks at the abandoned buildings peppering the land. Maybe he could find someone--not those impostors, for they were imposters no matter what they said--to help him with his sword. At the very least either beating someone up or getting a nice layer of fresh bruises and aches himself would be good for his sour mood.
He picked up a nice sized rock and tossed it for all he was worth… And let out a loud cry of protest and alarm when it swung wide of its mark. “Shit-- LOOK OUT!”
