For Alice, nothing was worse than this severe lack of food. She had been reassured again and again that she could just find food in the run-down stores, but none of it really pinged her interest. Most of the food she had found was in cans and was "mushy and gross". Alice had standards, or at least that was what she told herself.

Haven North apparently met those standards. Alice had heard that the Northern part of Haven had real food. And other things. But mostly real food. She had also heard some little things about monsters in the subway, but pish-posh, no problem. Such a "no problem" that the great Alice-sama wasn't even thinking to prepare herself for such a thing. A bit of yelling would do the trick. She swung her arms confidently by her sides and took giant steps filled with pride, marching to the subway without a second thought.

None of this could end well.

"Clear outta the way!" Alice stopped at the top of the stairs, hands now confidently on her hips and posture speaking of undeserved confidence, "You hear me, you monsters? The Great Alice-sama is coming to get your meat!"

Her voice echoed around the otherwise empty subway. She had no reason to believe anyone was listening to her, but assumed that everyone who needed to hear her would. Why would they not be paying attention to her? She was the most important person for miles, probably.

"I didn't hear any leaving!" She called, stomping her feet as she began descending the stairs, "Who do you think you are, huh? Not leaving when I definitely said something that was meant to make your go!"
It was a nonsensical argument, as arguments with Alice often ended up being. She waited now, eyes narrowed and judging monsters she did not see. Alice had been about to open her mouth to yell something else, but stopped. She was seeing made-up things, but she could swear that she had just seen something slithering along the edge of the subway's inner shadow.

Alice pressed her lips together. She had really expected for the monsters to leave when she yelled at them too. Maybe another a girl would think that was too easy, but not Alice. Another girl may also have realized that her eyes were probably playing tricks on her, but not Alice. No one played tricks on Alice, not even her own eyes!
So her logical conclusion was that there was a rebellious monster.

"Didn't I say to scram, you insolent beast!" She yelled, picking a nice fancy-sounding word that she really didn't understand. Now that monster was probably scared. Faced with both a strong and smart girl like Alice, who wouldn't be? She sneered and continued, "This is your last chance to GET!"

Alice waited a few seconds longer. She strained her eyes to see if her scare tactics had worked. Her bangs shifted and blocked her eyes for just a moment, but Alice managed to mistake the sudden movement for a monster stepping out of and back into the subway tunnel. It made her jump, though she would not easily admit to having felt a moment's worth of fright. She didn't really have access to any of her-- Oz'd-- powers at the moment. In all honesty, she did not have any plan for how to get through the tunnels if yelling didn't work. She was also stubborn, and wasn't about to give up on her mission unless she had a really good and legitimate excuse...

"Why I oughta..." Her stomach growled. Hunger was the most legitimate excuse she could have. Alice hissed and screamed at no one in particular, then turned on her heel and marched back up the stairs, "You got lucky, alright? I'm coming back after I get a snack! Then you'll be sorry!"
