Character Name: Madoka Kaname
Canon: Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Canon Point: Episode 10, first timeline (right before her death).
Background/History: http://wiki.puella-magi.net/Madoka_Kaname
Personality: Madoka is just a normal school girl, to put it lightly.

She's kind hearted, a little clumsy, she doesn't have far too much confidence. In fact, she's in no means perfect, despite being a main character.

In her own words, "if I could become a magical girl, if only to help others, then that would be my only wish". To put it lightly, Madoka is 'pure'. In the world of Madoka Magica, happiness is equal to despair. Because of this, Madoka is told to be a 'powerful' magical girl. However, becoming a magical girl also means becoming a witch--and Madoka becomes one powerful enough to destroy the entire world. In other words, out of all of the girls that Kyuubey has encountered, Madoka is one of the most pure girls.

However, Madoka has many faults. She has very little confidence. She frequently says that she believes that she's never been good at anything, and relies on others for advice or help. There are many times throughout the series when she appears to seem helpless. However, she does regret feeling that way. This goes hand in hand with her strength. After all, throughout the other timelines we see Madoka in, she indeed uses her powers to help others as much as she possibly can.

Her emotional strength also seems to lie within her friends. They are her reason for fighting. However, that also goes hand in hand with her weaknesses. When things begin to go downhill within the series, and her friends begin to die, Madoka seems to spiral further and further into despair. However, with that--she is also extremely selfless. Even when knowing that becoming a magical girl also means surrendering one's soul, she is willing to do that much on the slim chance that she might be able to help her friend Sayaka.

She seems to look up to those who are successful and powerful in their own right. For example, her Mother and Mami. She relies greatly on her Mother's advice at times throughout the series, and often says that Mami is her role model. In the first timeline, where I will be pulling her from, Madoka looks up to Mami as a teacher--Mami having been a magical girl for longer than she.

An example of Madoka's friendliness can be seen with Sayaka, and Homura. Homura, who was the new student, and appeared to be nothing less than nervous. Madoka quickly became friends with the other girl, and even saved her from a witch when she was in danger. Sayaka is one of Madoka's closer friends, and is often seen wanting to help her through out timelines. This seems to be the case whether or not Madoka has become a magical girl.

Socially, Madoka is very friendly, and seems to be well known in a positive light in her school. However, she seems to keep herself within a group of two other classmates. She's normally polite in regards to others, often calling Mami 'Mami-san'/Miss Mami, and at first calling Homura 'Akemi-san'. She doesn't often take well to teasing, and her intention never seem to be ones of malice. She cares greatly for those around her, and would do anything for them.

In the first timeline, Madoka is shown to be far more courageous and willing to do what she can to help others--jumping in with little hesitation. This is the difference between Madoka in the timeline the show takes place during, and the first timeline. Madoka, by the time she is introduced, is already a magical girl, and even sacrifices herself to just attempt to help save those who are important to her. She’s far more social, rarely tripping over her words and shows a great amount of enthusiasm. However, Madoka is also realistic in a way (saying “she guesses” when Homura asks if she’s scared of being a magical girl), but is aware that she’s one of the few people who can protect others against serious dangers.

Abilities/Powers: Madoka is a Puella Magi, or Magical Girl. A girl becomes a Puella Magi by making a contract with Kyuubey - a strange animal-like creature in the Maoka universe. In exchange for becoming a magical girl, he grants any wish that the girl wants - no matter what it is.

Becoming a magical girl means gaining a soul gem - which makes the girl almost indestructible. They have a great amount of stamina, and endurance, and do not feel pain. They can take a great amount of damage without actually dying. They become stronger, faster, and depending on whatever they wished for, gain a special ability. For example, Sayaka, who wished to heal a childhood friend, heals far more quickly than a human would. Though, Madoka’s special power as a magical girl was not revealed during the TV series, or movies

However, if a magical girl’s soul gem is not purified by a grief seed - an item that a witch leaves behind - or is tainted by despair, they become that which they are hunting, and that is a witch. A witch is described as a being that spreads despair, and is shown to drive people to do as much as commit suicide.

And that is supposedly their main purpose - to kill witches, and spread hope.

Madoka’s powers as a magical girl remain unknown, sans her using a bow to fight. However, just as other magical girls can, Madoka can more than likely manipulate objects with magic to become more useful to her. However, as Madoka is rarely seen in the series as a magical girl - as said, much to her abilities is still a mystery.

She can also speak with other magical girls, or girls chosen by Kyuubey telepathically.

There is much to Madoka’s potential abilities. However, because I am taking her from the first timeline, her potential as a magical girl, and god-like powers are irrelevant. From her current canonpoint, she will only be the same as other magical girls.

Items/Weapons: Her soul gem, and her clothes on her back (school uniform).

Sample Entry Two: Madoka Kaname was lost.

For a long while, it had taken her a while to get used to getting around the city at home by herself. She was never great with directions in the first place, and being somewhere completely new had only made it work. “Uhm…” She bites the inside of her mouth uncertainly. The only thing she had been left with here after waking up was a device that looked a little like a cellphone.

She clicks through it, looking through the different options. ….It was strange. She hadn’t gotten any information or welcome into this world from anyone except for her roommates, but they had filled her in on some basic information.

…. Everyone here needed help, it seemed like. And somehow, she feels like….

Whatever reason that she was sent here for, she can do a lot of good. After all, isn’t that what being a magical girl is all about? Helping others? Spreading hope, and happiness towards others? And this place… seemed so desolate, it felt a little depressing.

She smiles weakly, putting her device down, a hand going to her pocket to feel for her soul gem.

…. She’d do everything she could, no matter how small, to help others. She could still do that much…!
