Personality: If you'd like to describe Manji with one word, the word you should choose is "stupid". Manji is, you see, not the most clever out of the people you might meet. Maybe not the dumbest either, but that's up for debate. He sure is close to the dumbest you might meet. Now, why is he an idiot? Not because he can't read or count, though that does tend to be an obstacle that gets in the way. But for one, he's incredibly simple minded, and will easily believe just about any lie that he's told, because he's so gullible. If you tell him some really sad, sappy and surrealistically impossible story, he'll easily believe it. Not that it comes with the idiocy – it comes a little with the inability to read – but Manji has absolutely no sense of direction. He easily gets lost, can't tell east from north and if he can't finds his goal, he gets frustrated and might literally flip a table. If he gets stuck in a hole, he often needs help getting out of them, because he sucks at climbing. He often runs off in random direction like he has a purpose much to Karu's frustration, and then it's not rare that he screams loudly while doing so. Because he's impatient, and can't even lie still in bed when he's badly wounded, as long as he's able to move. Which he often can even if he shouldn't be able to, because he's way too stubborn for his own good.
Manji pretty much always has this scary look in his eyes, except maybe when he's smiling brightly. Most often, if he's not actually angry which isn't most of the time, it's because he's confused. And then because it's his default expression, too. He just has those kind of eyes, really, and it upsets him, because most people get scared of him, and even animals gets scared and runs off ehen he tries to pet them, or when he simply looks at them. It makes him a bit upset, and then he looks even angrier and then he might scream in frustration or confusion. And he's pretty damn loud. But because his feelings are often written right on his face, he sucks at lying and at pretending something that's not right. It's also boring when people and animals are scared of him, because then he can't talk to them, and because of that, he likes people who are not scared of him.
Once upon a time, Manji was a body guard. Not that he doesn't think that he isn't one. Anyway, nowadays, he's feared. Most of all by people that doesn't know he's as dumb as he is. But there happens to be reason for that. Manji is strong, and really skilled with a sword. He doesn't really care who he gets hired by, but he has standards. He doesn't want to hurt kids, and he doesn't want to hurt people who are not bad, if he can help it. He has a strong sense of justice, despite being wanted for being a killer. He dislikes it when people bully those weaker than themselves, and or the elderly, or women or children, for that matter. He also likes those that shows a lot of determination, or those who protects those that are defenseless.
He pretty much only knows how to live by the sword, though, and only knows how to express himself with actions; mostly violence. He's not the kind of person who is very good with words. He's easily confused by big words or long sentences, and many times, he can't detect irony. Because of this, he easily gets either very silent from the confusion, or he gets violent. After all, he doesn't have any other things he knows how to do, and it's easy to act before thinking. All in all, he's an impulsive person, and because of that, he tends to get himself in trouble, and it's even because of that, that he managed to get himself wanted, as well as incriminated on several other occasions.
But despite his stupidity and brash attitude, he sometimes says some surprisingly clever things. He's actually pretty insightful without even noticing it. So sometimes, even his weird comments can bring something useful. He's also incredibly good at handling a sword, and is fast and strong. He's very precise in his sword handling, even if it looks rough and as unrefined as Manji himself. He can still hit right in the middle of something, with no problem. His sword is his soul and life, just like any samurai's, and he has shown his dedication to wanting to join CARD's through handing it over to Senri, while telling him this.
He hates seeing other people suffer, and if he can help it, he won't let anyone get in harms way. Most of all he wants to protect those that he likes, those that can't protect themselves, children, or those who gets in trouble or harms way despite them having done nothing wrong. Most of all it's children, though. He's very determined to do this, and it's another reason for him getting himself into trouble. He always thought that pain and/or wounds were transferred through the charm “pain pain go away” and has used it many times to make children's pain go away. He even thinks that the pain and wounds will be transferred to someone else if he touch them, and when Kal touched him and first used his powers as a “Scapegoat” to take Manji's wounds, Manji thought that it was because of the charm, and not because of Kal's powers. He doesn't like relying on that power of Kal's and on many occasions, he tells him that "these are my wounds, don't you dare taking them from me".
