Personality:
When he was first introduced it was easy to see why he was thought of as an energetic, happy-go-lucky idiot. Zeno was the quickest to join the group, after he found them when they left Awa and Yona fed him. He is always ready to smile and laugh off anything that seems negative. This includes when people around him seem to be upset, stressed or fighting. He’s ready to come in laughing or doing something playful to placate the situation. Even seeking out attention at times, making him seem very kid-like, as he speaks in 3rd person and uses nicknames for just about everyone he meets or knows. Zeno knows that people tend to feed off what is given to them, like mirrors people reflect what they see in others. This kind of thought process makes Zeno seem much wiser than the age he originally gives the others, or they assume he is, when in reality he is much older.

With the blood of Ouryuu, Zeno obtained immortality. This means that when all of the other original dragons and King Hiryuu passed away he was left behind. Zeno is thousands of years old and during his life time he’s seen many dragons come and go, yet he remains unchanged, just waiting until King Hiryuu returns to earth. When he finds out of the king’s reincarnation, he’s hesitant to join them immediately. So instead he watches the others on their journey until he feels the time is right. After this he’s finally able to meet with his dragon brothers again and he feels a great closeness to them. He wishes greatly to protect them and everyone he’s become close to. Though his immortality doesn’t mean he seeks to fight. When he drank Ouryuu’s blood his greatest wish was to make the world a better place and to make others happy with his power. This is something that Zeno holds very close as his dream even after all the time that has passed, he still believes in this wish. Despite living all this time, he feels like it’s best to live in the moment. Or at least try to, there is no point in dwelling greatly on the past. Though he doesn’t try to forget his past either, he carries it with him.

Zeno is a complex character that doesn’t reveal all there is about him. He says it doesn’t matter if he told them he was the original Ouryuu or not since his powers don’t appear unless he’s injured. He still beats around the bush when questioned about certain topics. Though when he feels it’s important he will speak if needed and he always seems to know the exact moment to say something to someone. Whether it is words of encouragement, praise, hopeful words, or even a dose of reality, he has a way with words that leave an impact.

Zeno can be incredibly perceptive of things around him. While he is observant, he’s also extremely skilled at reading the situation in front of him. He’s able to pick up when something bad is about to happen or when those around him are not who or what they seem. When needed he is able to act quickly before others are hurt. Though he does admit his weaknesses in his ability to help when it comes to fighting, he knows that he is of little help unless he is injured. He willingly and honestly admits to the others that he is useless in most situations, he isn’t cut out for fighting and would rather flee if something is begins to grow too dangerous. Though he will quickly make himself into a shield for others, rather he gets injured than those he cares for. This includes admitting to Yona that with him as her shield she will never be injured.

When it comes to relationships Zeno seems to be close to everyone he travels with. He doesn’t seem to favor one companion over the rest, although there seems to be a certain closeness he has towards Seiryuu (Shin-Ah). This could be because of the relations with the first Seiryuu (Ah-Bi) and Shin-Ah. They both value their names greatly and after King Hiryuu’s death, Zeno is the first person to once again call Ah-Bi by his name. After that point he called all of the original dragons by their first names. This is something that has not happened with the current dragons and can almost be seen as him giving the originals respect still. Zeno also tells Kija that he is quite similar to the original Hakuryuu in many ways. Since he says the same things as Guen (The original Hakuryuu), about welcoming him to the village and also stating that they are all brothers. In many ways this is bitter sweet for Zeno, since he never did visit Guen before his death. He feels cowardly about this fact, but he was fearful of seeing the others in their old age while he remained the same. With Ryokuryuu (Jae-Ha), there isn’t a lot revealed yet with their closeness besides Zeno really wanting the man to not take on so much. Telling him they were all brothers after all and could look out for each other. With Yona, Zeno already admits that he had to test the girl at first but then does say she is the reincarnation of King Hiryuu, telling the girl that the king was human and had no special powers himself. His desire to protect her is strong and he says he will never let her come to harm. Besides Yona and the Dragons, Zeno also gets along with Yoon and Hak. Yoon is the youngest and a lot of times it seems like Zeno wants to reassure the boy and comfort him. When it comes to Hak he trusts his power and knows the man can be trusted to handle most things.

In all Zeno can seem very simple when he really isn’t. He holds a great deal of memories with him as well as the expectations of the previous King Hiryuu that he wants to make proud. Despite any pain he’s experienced in his past, he pushes forward and continues to grow while helping all of those around him.
