azmaria hendric - chrono crusade - no reservation

Personality: The girl with the kind, gentle smile has a depths to her appearances wouldn't immediately betray.

Her soft disposition and timidity have a great deal to do with the experiences endured in her childhood and upbringing since; she was a very sickly child until she was visited by an 'Angel'; her powers as an Apostle were awakened and granted her the ability to heal those around her through song. They came at a price, however; misfortune befell everyone she grew close to. It began with her parents, who died during the first World War -- and Azmaria traveled from Portugal to the United States afterwards. Her time with a band of touring musicians were some of the best of her life and fostered many pleasant memories for her, as well as solidifying her fondness toward music; however...

Her Apostle abilities were discovered by a man named Ricardo Hendric, who adopted her for the sole purpose of abusing her abilities as an Apostle to revive his wife, Melda, from the dead. She had been killed during the war -- and he intended to manipulate Azmaria's ability to tap into the Astral Line to bring her soul back to her. But in order to acquire her... the entire choir she had been living with and forming such happy memories beside, were killed by the demons Ricardo had tamed. His relationship with her was purely business; she was often caged up by her father and wasn't permitted to live much of a life at all -- it's because of being often left behind, used, or outcast by those surrounding her that she felt a deep sense of loneliness and helplessness. Weak, she didn't possess the will to fight for herself and believed that it was inevitable that if she grew close to people, she would bring about their suffering or lose them for the cycle to begin all over again next time.

Chrono and Rosette completely changed the way that Azmaria looked at the world. From the moment they came into her life, everything shifted; she had her eyes opened to what real friendship was like, and how to find strength of will, a will she absolutely admired-- perhaps even adored-- in her newfound companions. Rosette became a big sister model, someone she idolized and looked up to without a single doubt -- she aspired to become strong and capable like her, willing to walk into the future no matter what it held and not to be afraid or defeatist anymore. Taking the first step to those ends herself, she began training to become a full-fledged Exorcist on her own and entered the Magdale Order.

Even if she's become a stronger person who acknowledges her weaknesses and faults, striving to surpass them and grow as a person... she hasn't done so at the cost of her kind and generous heart. Azmaria is the Apostle of Charity, and for good reason -- she is always willing to help those around her, and loves seeing people smiling and happy. She likes cheering up her companions and despite the fact she's a child, she's able to give encouraging words and perseveres even in the face of danger, even going so far as putting on a smiling face to prevent burdening others with her troubles or fears. She might be scared, but she doesn't run away or allow herself to be overwhelmed, defeated, even in the face of monstrous enemies or frightening circumstances. To the contrary, she might be unnerved and uneasy by many circumstances, but she doesn't cave under the pressure. Instead, it merely makes her cautious and careful as she goes forward.

She holds a compassionate heart, and an empathetic one -- forms bonds with those around her easily even if she might be shy and often soft-spoken, and can be childish and playful when she's in trusted company. Despite being used and suffering greatly at the hands of others, it hasn't cost her to have any less faith in the goodness of others; she takes their words to heart, perhaps with some naivety, even still. It speaks to a desire to be accepted, loved, and told everything is going to be okay... that it's alright to be happy or sad or anything in between -- that she isn't alone.

Abilities/Powers: Azmaria is an Apostle -- an individual gifted with the ability to call upon the Astral Line. The Astral Line is the life force of everything, including the planet -- it can be equated to spiritual energy, in essence. When a soul dies, it returns to the Astral Line -- and when a life is created, a spirit is drawn from the Line again. This gifts her with the ability to call on the Line's power and manipulate it -- specifically through the gift of song to heal others of anything from superficial cuts and bruises to mending broken bones. The usage of this power comes with a price -- it temporarily drains the body of the Apostle which can be fixed with some rest, but suffers a curse; Azmaria, the Apostle of Charity, endures the curse of bringing misfortune to those who get close to her.
Items/Weapons: No notable possessions -- just some clothing.
Sample Entry: [the video function clicks on to show a timid girl adjusting the camera-- which, unfortunately, is side-ways and seems to be getting peered at quite quizzically. it's apparent Azmaria hasn't quite mastered modern technology.]

Excuse me? Um--

[she obscures the view of her face as she shifts her hold and her palm covers the camera, but her voice has gotten louder; she must be holding it against her face.]

This 'phone' is very interesting, but I don't think I understand... [there's creak of the mattress as she gets up from her bed, tentative footsteps following. she's clearly feeling out her new surroundings.] Shader? Did you leave this for me?

[...]

H- Hello? Can anyone hear me...?

[this really doesn't look like Kansas Eden anymore, does it... hm. maybe she would do better exploring a bit...?]

Sample Entry Two: There was one step, than two breaking the silence of the apartment corridors.

Azmaria hadn't seen anything quite like this. Even the impressive technology of Eden's floating city was quite different than the sort she was finding here... though it appeared in a very sorry state of disrepair. There was something in her chest, a little niggle of worry, not quite fear -- the sensation that something was wrong. She hadn't seen head nor tail of any of the Sinners, and wasn't that strange? If they had moved her somewhere, wouldn't they have told her why? No... maybe they wouldn't share that kind of information with her, even if Aion had seemed open with his plans for her, Joshua and the other Apostles taken captive.

She gently winds fingers into her sleeve, cautious as she peers into the stairwell and casting out a cautious call.

"Hello...?"

Only the sound of her own voice echoes back. It's empty; the disconcerting feeling increases. What if something had happened to them...? To the Sinners...

Even if they were 'bad people,' what if they were in trouble? They'd been kind to her, even if they had hurt so many innocent people in the city, assaulted her friends... what they'd done to Chrono and Rosette... What they had planned for this world... Is she wrong for being conflicted, unsure how she feels about all of this? It's not always black and white, she knows that -- but she also knows she doesn't understand everything. Chrono and the Sinners were complicated.

And so, apparently, is this. She takes a few small steps onto the stairs that creak quietly under soft footfalls.

Even if this quiet ghost town is intimidating, there has to be some kind of answer about why she's here, right? She has to find it. She can't hide, and she won't stand still. Like Rosette said -- it's time to look to the future and keep moving forward.
