Personality: In the game Dangan Ronpa, there is a school in Japan called Hope's Peak Academy, where only the most talented students in the country go. There are two qualifications to be be accepted into the school. Quoting from the game: "You must be currently enrolled at a high school" and "You must super-excel at your field of expertise". I say all that to say that Leon is a Super High School Level (hereafter shorted to SHSL) Baseball Player, and I can't explain his personality without explaining his sheer skill. He's the ace of the country's champion team, so good the pros took notice of him.
You couldn't tell it from looking at him though. Upon meeting him, he complains about his picture online, saying that the team made him shave his head, and he was never doing that or going back to his natural hair color again. He also says he doesn't like baseball, and he never goes to practice. He doesn't actually have to, he's that good.
See, Leon is both brilliantly talented and hopelessly lazy. He says his dream is to be a punk rocker, and that's why he really came to the school (which guarantees success in your chosen field after graduation) , but it's later revealed that he just wants to be a musician to be famous and get girls. Specifically "that cute girl at the hair salon".Though this might be a pretty terrible reason to have a life goal, he has musician's equipment in his room at the school, so he does take it at least somewhat seriously. And by that I mean he asks Naegi if he knows anyone who plays instruments, because he wants to be the lead singer okay?
You learn this during his free time event, in which he slips and asks the protagonist if he wants to play baseball, which he claimed not to like at all. More than likely, he has a love/hate relationship with the sport he's not aware of, especially considering he says he's going to beg the coach to put him back on the team after he gets out of the school.
Although he's girl crazy and kind of blunt, he doesn't really come off as such during the events of the game for the most part. He's more casual and friendly, boggling at the . . . eccentricities of the rest of his classmates. (And to be far, they really are a pretty strange bunch). The one time this changes dramatically is after a tape is shown to motivate the students into killing one of their number, and during the end of the first trial, when he's found guilty of murdering a classmate, Sayaka Maizono. He's angry, and well, terrified for his life, because while murder is what the mastermind wants, the consequences for getting caught killing are dire. The consequences of not catching the killer are just as dire, but no one knows that until the start of the trial.
It's true, but it's not as clear cut as it seems. She set up a trap in an attempt to frame Naegi for murder, and sent him a note inviting him to her room at night. She was waiting with a knife, attacked him, and in the ensuing struggle he broke her wrist. When she locks herself in the bathroom, he breaks in and stabs her, showing an inability to just let the matter go. (It's notable in that the supplemental manga, his killing her was an accident.) Also, in her dying moments, she wrote his name on the wall in blood, but this completely escaped his notice.
In the end, he says he really didn't have a choice, though it's pointed out he could have just let her go after breaking her wrist. Under pressure, he seems to let his emotions get the best of him, but that's not so abnormal. In the end, he has to pay the price for his actions: he's executed by being chained to a post and essentially stoned to death with baseballs. The mastermind is a huge fan of irony, guys.
tdlr: Leon is a guy with lots of talent, who's serious about his punk appearance, and has a dearth of real motivation (besides the ladies). Despite this, he's more of a bro than anything else, unless you try to kill him. He's really not cool with the whole dying thing.
Abilities/Powers: He plays baseball at a world-class level. If that's a superpower then there you go! Also apparently he needs super hair dye, because he dyes his hair but canon doesn't say what his natural color is and I can't get icons for it. Whoops. Items/Weapons: A baseball bat, a bloody baseball, an electronic student handbook Sample Entry:[The voice on the phone sounds a bit frazzled, and rather pissed off too. He looks worse, covered in neon pink blood, almost like a zombie. How many shitty places could a guy end up?
The better question is if he's dreaming, or if this is some kind of messed up after-life, but it's not something he's really in a hurry to answer.]
Look, whatever this is, it's not fucking funny. I'm over all this crap that's out of a horror movie, and I'm done with crazy killer bears . . . [Of course, it's then he realizes he looks pretty crazy, and takes a breath. Not going to get any answers like that. Or help, and let's face it, he could use some help.] But seriously, if I could get some information for once? Kind of sick of being in the dark.
But I was serious about the bears. If I even see so much as a teddy bear I'm throwing it out. Sample Entry Two: When it really clicks, he's holding a knife, staring at a dead body that had been a pretty hot girl just moments before. There was blood everywhere, on the wall, the floor, his clothes, and he can't stop shaking for anything. Why the fuck did she have to pull that? It was her fault, her fault, her fault this happened. He just did what anyone else would, right?
For a moment, he thinks about confessing, but that's no good. He didn't want this, but something good could come out of it. He could go home, get out of this damn school and back to his normal life. Sure, he'd be leaving the rest of them behind, and that sucked, but he couldn't stay here. He'd go crazy being behind these walls the rest of his life. Hell, maybe he'd already snapped.
Either way, just standing here wasn't going to help at all. No, he wasn't going to let this ruin him, even if all the blood was going to give him nightmares for the rest of his life. It was just like at the bottom of the ninth innin- no, what was he thinking about that for at a time like this?
