Hello! Thank you for reading my application. Here's my revision:
Koyomi says that there is a metaphor - a hat is a wall around the heart. Nadeko is very fond of hats, and she has quite a collection. Rather than being shy, it seems, she is merely distrustful of other humans. A prime example of Nadeko's distrust - and independence - is when she endured her curse of the constricting snake prior to the events in Nadeko Snake. Before Koyomi and Kanbaru found her, she was already holding in the pain she felt as the snakes slowly covered and constricted her body for weeks without telling anyone. She could have called her friend Tsukihi, but she didn't. Instead, she did her own research and carried out the ritual to cancel the curse by herself, even when it involved killing snakes.
For a seemingly weak girl like Nadeko, isn't this something amazing from her? To fight for her life is something not most girls would have been able to do. However, her independence stems from the fact that she does not consider herself important enough to seek assistance from others and she cannot seek assistance because she is too timid to. It is only when she meets the person who had previously helped her without asking for anything, Koyomi, that she asks for help because she is confident that he is capable of saving her again.
But why did she want to live? Why, if her life was unpleasant and unchanging, did she fight for it?
The answer was simple: love.
It was important to Nadeko. So, so important that she could not live without it. Well, in a way, no one can live without love, but in Nadeko's case, it's very central to her character. In Otorimonogatari, she says, "I think it’s absolutely wonderful to be in love with someone. It can help you feel like life is worth living and give you strength." Her love for Koyomi, whom she had been waiting for prior to Nadeko Snake, kept her going. Her love for Koyomi, whom she could no longer be with, also spelled out her demise. From the jealousy born within her, we can go so far as to say it was less of a "love" that it was an "obsession" as time went on. Her downhill journey toward jealousy, insanity and "ascension" to a snake god ultimately prevented her from remaining Nadeko Sengoku, the girl who had a childhood crush on Koyomi Araragi.
Aside from this, I feel that I cannot expand on her personality more than I already have until the rest of the volume told through her perspective, Otorimonogatari, has been translated OR the anime is released and subbed around July 2013. All translated chapters of the series are available on the aforementioned website.
