Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:

Personality:

Most people's first impression of Rose Wilson is that she's made of piss and vinegar. She makes no attempt at amiability and will frequently deride teammates and strangers alike, without provocation, and sometimes for no discernible reason. As a competent mercenary she has a vast knowledge of survival skills, tactics, martial arts, and all manner of weaponry. Due to her training from her mother, her father Deathstroke, and the vigilante Nightwing, she’s well aware of her limits, and having fought as a Teen Titan for several years, is also aware how to handle a variety of situations and enemies - superhuman or otherwise - effectively. She is confident in her abilities due to her experience, and quick to dismiss those who think she isn’t capable, as well as anyone she perceives as weaker than her, which is nearly everyone. She's driven: once she sets her mind to a goal she will do anything, regardless of moral consequence, to achieve it.

She maintains a “tough girl” persona: raucous and rough. She is most certainly a thrill junkie: even before she became Ravager she sneaks out of her home to beat up thugs on the streets. Rose is an impulsive person. She's more likely to charge in guns blazing than case the area or prepare for what might be waiting for her. Nightwing attempts to correct this but the fact remains that she’ll always leap first without looking. Besides, she’s confident enough in herself that she feels she can get out of any mess she might land in. She discovers a slave-trading ring when out on her own, and ends up entangled in its operations for a few weeks, eventually taking down the head honcho, all with barely a plan in place.

She has moments where she shows a greater emotional range to her friends, but these are few and far between. She is far more likely to deflect or avoid the subject entirely than ever show vulnerability to someone: she's been hurt and betrayed at too young an age to ever trust easily. Rose was raised by her mother, a Cambodian sex-worker who set up a successful business in Manhattan. When she was thirteen, her uncle, Wade DeFarge, then-Ravager, kidnapped her to get to her father. She met superheroes for the first time and wasn't impressed, especially when her mother was seemingly killed in the attempt to rescue her. She lived with Arsenal's daughter, Lian, employed as the little girl's nanny. Eventually, Wintergreen (her father's butler) and his wife adopted Rose. She had just moved to Chicago to start a new life when her uncle murdered her adoptive parents. Deathstroke came to rescue her, she ended up killing her uncle and taking his codename. However, her father had ulterior motives. He subjected her to the same super-soldier serum that gave him his powers, except where it enhanced him it drove her insane. She finally ran away when he implanted a radioactive mineral in her body and forced her to try and kill Superman. She faces her father several times as an enemy of the Titans, and gives him only spite, desiring to end his life.

Despite the fact that Rose frequently falls in the grey area of morality, she has a strong sense of right and wrong. She's aware what's acceptable and what's not, but feels they're "just concepts" at best: she has no hard and fast rule about how she should act in a given situation. She especially struggles with the fact that she was more like her father than she was like her mother, especially when she tended to resort to his methods. She hates that people think of her as just "Deathstroke's daughter" and will act to prove them wrong as much as she can.

She yearns for a family, and belonging. She joins the Titans officially when the team is rotating through members, without a leader and direction, and stays because she has nowhere else to go and no desire to live in the world on her own. Slowly, but surely, the stability of a team changes her, to the point where she no longer causes massive collateral damage during a mission, and even stops to plan how to get civilians out of a danger zone with minimal injuries. She comes to consider the Titans her “true” family, and is deeply affected by any accusation of disloyalty to them. Once she’s close to someone she is unshakeably loyal and protective, and she will go to any lengths to protect them, as demonstrated when Wendy and Marvin, who'd joined around the same time she had, were attacked. She reacts explosively when accused of being a traitor, and later on, when said traitor is permitted to join the team, threatens her with violent consequences if she ever thinks of betraying the team again. Rose cares, she just thinks it's better to hide it.

She shows a completely different side of herself with young children, and her half-brother Joseph Wilson (Jericho). She speaks to him without challenging or dismissing him. She acts much more like the girl she was before Ravager: less raucous, more affectionate and open, calmer. When a hit is placed on him she tracks down the assassin and begs him not to kill Joey. The man is moved to acquiesce. Her brother is the one person in her life she believes in completely, and who, according to Rose, reciprocates her faith and affection unconditionally. On his request, she didn’t go through with killing their father.

Rose, in short: she is abrasive, resilient, headstrong, and fiercely dedicated to what she considers important.

Abilities/Powers:
Rose has precognitive abilities which manifest when she is high on adrenaline. She only uses them in a fight, to predict her opponent’s movements and respond accordingly. On rare occasions, such as when she deliberately injects herself with epinephrine to induce a vision, she has been able to see weeks into the future.

Additionally, she has a measure of enhanced strength, endurance, healing factor, and speed due to inheriting her father’s abilities. She is a master of several martial arts, proficient with melee weapons, and competent with firearms. She normally wields twin katanas.

Items/Weapons:
- Two (2) katanas
- Ravager armour
- A packet of cigarettes.

Sample Entry:

[There’s some static on the feed, before the image settles on a nearby wall, with grey peeling paint, the remnants of stubborn posters, and a few unidentifiable stains where the wall meets the floor. Rose isn't in view, but her shadow is; long, and blurry, the nearby light source flickers, violently. The sword hilts jutting out above her shoulder seem like spikes. There's a misshapen object lying still next to her. She has her hands on her hips, and her voice is dry, annoyed, when she finally speaks.]

So.

[She tsks.]

This is Isla Paradiso, huh? Cute. Being in some freakish helltown is exactly what the doctor ordered.

[The click of a lighter. She exhales, audibly, blowing smoke in the air, and kicks the object next to her. It squelches. She grimaces, glad that's not on camera. To her sharp nose it smells even worse than it normally does.]

These ugly things are fucking everywhere. You want them gone, ask for Ravager. [A beat.] Disposal's your problem unless you've got cigarettes.

[She debates asking openly for her friends, but switches off the feed abruptly. No point.]

Sample Entry Two: She doesn't even make it to the assigned housing. Step One: she finds a good place to make a cache and puts a few supplies there, making sure it's all hidden from prying eyes. Step Two? Kill everything with too-sharp teeth. She'll say it attacked her first, it's a good excuse to give any Titans she might meet, because like hell they only brought Rose and none of her playmates. It just wouldn't be another ordinary day in their lives if it'd been just her.

It takes her an hour to find one of the old subway tunnels full of moving shadows, and she lets loose, laughing. The swords sing, there's nothing here in the tunnels but rust and old ghosts; she has no fear. She leaves the creatures bleeding, she only clears up the bones she thinks might have been human, once.

It's a good workout, all else aside. She'll have to figure out some kind of system for purifying the well water - it couldn't be potable by itself, had to be a trick. She could start on it now, or she could go for a run and see if there was anything (or anyone) on the rooftops. That's where her kind of people hung out, she supposed. It was a better option than looking for more trouble, even if she could meet it head-on. Some things just weren't fun on your own.

She takes off at a sprint, smirking.

[personal profile] jawdacity 2014-08-10 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

If Rin were to describe himself, he probably wouldn't start with his personality or his physical characteristics or anecdotes about himself. He'd cut straight to the heart of it, as is his way: he'd start with his motivations.

Because that's what Rin is, that's what Rin wants to be. A maelstrom of motivations, tossed here and there, up and about, until it all settled. Until he sorted through them on his hands and feet, growing callouses in some places and allowing his pale underbelly to lie vulnerable in others. Until he surfaced with a goal in hand, one stark and dignified enough to withstand the scrutiny of all of the rest of the world combined. Rin wants to swim. He wants to take the world by storm. He wants to bump shoulders with giants in the way that few people ever do — he wants to be an Olympian.

It started with his father, who was a talented swimmer in his own right. The ocean took his life one day, leaving Rin and his younger sister, Gou, unmoored. Rin, especially, felt the weight of responsibility. Now he couldn't only swim for himself, he had to take his father's goals in hand and show the world what the Matsuoka name meant. He approached swimming with joyful dedication as a child, making friends through the sport, becoming an athlete and growing into the beat of his own heart.

That changed when he decided to transfer to Australia for a more diligent approach to his swimming. Indeed he grew tell and lean and strong. But more than that, Australia taught him to hunger. He was beaten down, lost in a foreign country without direction. He lost contact with the friends who loved him. There, he was whittled down to a brittle half-wrought facsimile of himself, one who nearly broke apart when he returned to Japan. Swimming had lost its meaning. He was a deadly athlete, a flurry of well-coordinated limbs in the water, but something inside of him had fallen awry. He was angry all the time. He nearly burnt all the bridges that had once sustained him. The laughing, carefree child that had left Japan with plans to shine had become a teenager who bared his teeth in a snarl more often than a smile. All that mattered was getting better, realizing his dream. It didn't matter who he trod upon in the process, as long as he was standing at the podium at the end of it all, the medallion around his neck glinting gold in the light.

But his friends saved him. They picked him up when he might have thrown swimming to the wayside in his anger. They took his securities and showed him how to close his fingers around them and learn their shape, so as to better overcome each and every one.

With the help of his friends, Rin changed.

He never lost his flame-wrought spirit, nor his drive to succeed, but it was tempered by his failure. He still has an edge of cocky self-assuredness, he's a bit vain, he can be short-tempered and foul-mouthed, but ultimately Rin is a cornerstone rather than the crumbling brick he'd once been. He's the definition itself of the value of hard work over natural talent. He gets up early every morning to job, he's constantly training, constantly changing his workout menus to better focus his skills. He doesn't take off-days. His athleticism isn't a temporary thing; he wants to ride the wave of his own success right up to the top. That means absolutely no cutting corners.

He has a dry sense of humor, a sharp tongue, and he can be tactlessly blunt. That said, Rin is something of a soft-hearted sap on the inside; he will speak without compunction about his friends and what they did to save him. He does maintain that tough-guy front, but he's also a closet romantic and he cries very easily. At anything. Seriously, he was probably the dude at the back of the theaters crying his popcorn into an even saltier confection during Titanic.

He was made captain of the swim team in his third year, and he's shown himself to be an intuitive and capable leader, dedicated to each member of his team.

He's still growing, still learning his own limits, still fighting to get to the top, but now he does it all with the knowledge that he's not alone. And that makes all the difference.

Abilities/Powers:

If we're talking about the entire multisphere with super-powered ninjas and Gundams and Son Goku, Rin wouldn't stand a chance. He's a teenager who's deadly in the water, wherein "deadly" only refers to crushing time records of any competitors. His specialty stroke is the butterfly, though he's nearly as quick in freestyle.

He's played/enjoys football, as well.

He's neat to a fault. He keeps a daily diary of what's happening in his life.

He's also a good leader, though he may not seem so at first. Patient when he wants to be, detail-oriented, dedicated, quick-witted; he can manage a team of unruly teenagers without being overly intimidating physically, that should be accounted for.

He can skateboard.

He's fluent in both English and Japanese, and he has a knack for mathematics. He's a fairly good student in general.

He runs daily and trains in the weight room on top of daily swimming practice, so he's phenomenally fit.

Items/Weapons:
- His swim bag (contains a bottle of water, a couple of protein bars, muscle salve, a couple of swimsuits, two towels, a wristwatch with a timer, a hairband, two pairs of goggles, a swimcap, a Samezuka tracksuit, jogging clothes, and a pair of running shoes.)
- A photograph of his father's relay team

Sample Entry:

a bit cracky, but hopefully this will suffice.

Sample Entry Two:

Once every three years, the Samezuka swimming club, with the help of smart budgeting and deep parental pockets, puts together a recreational trip for its members. This year, of course, Rin's the one at the helm. It means three days of practice lost whilst he sits with the team manager and the faculty staff in an attempt to perfect the last minutiae required for such a large-scale trip, and three more lost during the actual trip itself.

(Rin tallies the hours in his head and adds it to his nightly training routine. An extra mile on his jogging route, an extra set of reps for each endeavor in the weight room. He lingers after hours in the club pool, swimming with his arms held in tight to his torso, allowing himself the poor form only because any excessive splashing would bring security running. It's enough, just to feel the water around him, the comfort of it, the challenge of it, or whatever — god, he's turning into Haru, isn't he?)

Because winter has clung to Samezuka for longer than it should have, this year. The trees are bare; the sky remains an ominous bone-white well into the afternoon. The swimming club faculty decide on a nearby onsen as a concession to the cold, and Rin, having been subjected to numerous diatribes from his team members about the cold, can't find it in himself to object. Still, in all honesty, he's less-than-pleased at the idea of a few days away from the pool. What's the point of "relaxation" if he can't even swim at the onsen?

Nonetheless, it's out of his hands.

It's half an hour past midnight on the first night of the trip. Rin is curled into a miserable ball in his futon, teeth gnashing, bright-eyed, ready to rip his roommates into shreds. The snoring is like some kind of new-age orchestral exhibition. Nitori is quiet enough, his breath a familiar sibilant whistle on every exhale, but the others (Shiba, Asato, Tanaka, Kubo) ... well, Rin had awoken to an irrational panic that there was a thunderstorm inside the room before he'd realized what was going on.

And then he'd lain awake for an hour, his mind stuttering and but not yet slowing, his brow a deep furrow. It's not just the snoring, though that alone would be enough to drive anyone insane.

It's —

Captain Matsuoka, Rin mouths to himself. The shoji-paper walls, the dim glow of the lamps from the hallway. Muted laughter from the bowels of the inn. The steady beat of night-sounds, drifting in through the open window. Captain Matsuoka.

He gives up after ten minutes. A can of tepid milky coffee from the vending machine keeps his eyelids from drooping, but does little to dispel the whir and rattle of his thoughts. Well? He has one option: the hot springs here are - unusually - open twenty-four hours on Friday and Saturday, and he'd not spent much of his time today taking advantage of them. It has nothing to do with his offbeat concerns about fraternization with the juniors (many of whom still remember the stunt he'd pulled last year at Regionals), it's also that he'd had a shitload of things to deal with today. He'd not had time for the hot springs. Shuttling his team members to their correct rooming assignments, confiscating a whole duffel full of contraband paint-thinner vodka, working out meal tickets for everyone when he'd realized that the club had paid for too few of them...

It's great, the responsibility. He's enjoying it, even though he still can't hear anyone call him captain without wanting to burst out laughing. But it's an egregious amount of shit to deal with, especially when he doesn't have Mikoshiba's easy command of the team. Not yet.

So, at 12:59am in the morning, Rin makes up his mind; without giving himself time to teeter back to indecision, he breaks the rules he himself had set, and sneaks down to the onsen. Five minutes later, he's hitching up the towel slung about his waist and stepping into the bathing rooms.

He makes a quick visual circuit of his surroundings: it's empty, as he'd expected it to be — what sort of nutjob got into an onsen so early in the morning? — or so he thinks, until his gaze snags on an all-too-familiar head of dark hair.

Rin smirks. Of course. If anyone in all of Samezuka had the balls to fuck with the club rules, it had to be Sousuke.

"Oi, Yamazaki. It's past curfew." says Captain Matsuoka, easing himself into the steaming water across from his friend.

Character Name: Raava
Canon: Avatar: Legend of Korra
Canon Point: 2.14: Light in the Dark - just before re-bonding with Korra
Background/History: Raava and Wan's beginnings and how they were separated. Also Raava and Korra's new start.
There's a huge almost 10,000 year gap in between Raava's life with Wan and the most recent Avatars. Every time an Avatar would die, she would be "reincarnated" alongside the soul into the next element in the cycle. However, there is little-to-no known knowledge of the past lives. What is known can be found here. The connection to the past lives has been broken but Raava's memory hasn't been affected, it's just that she can no longer use the link to speak to the spirits of their past lives. Raava will feel a pull from the younger version of herself in the various Avatars though.

Raava | Avatar: Legend of Korra | Reserved

[personal profile] extraavasate 2014-08-10 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Upon first meeting Raava, it’s clear that she cares little for humans. In fact, she would rather have nothing to do with them and is very judgmental towards them. That is a product of being older than humanity itself. She is one of the older spirits who was around when they ‘crawled out of the muck’ as Vaatu put it. So while Raava has had absolutely no real interaction with them, she has an idea of what they’re like. They’re destructive and care little for anyone but themselves. And honestly, it’s pretty true – especially at the beginning. It isn’t until a human named Wan came along that Raava began to see the error of her views. Sure, other humans were destroying the trees to make way for their own sake along with attacking spirits but she has come to realize that not all humans are like that.

That’s why at times she can be very abrasive with them. Their ignorance blinds them to see the truth of things so they tend to act before they think. She wanted nothing to do with (and at one point even refused the help of) one particular human. While that has changed over the last ten millennium, part of her will always be abrasive. Especially considering that she takes her role as the Spirit of Light and Peace very seriously. Terrible things are never to be taken lightly when Raava is around. Of course, she’s also just rough in general. Despite being bonded to humans for a good portion of her life, beating around the bush isn’t really something she does. Her straight-forward, truthful nature has a sharp sting to it.

Wan was the first human that Raava really spent a lot of time with and learned more about him. Honestly, he was the best person to make her see that not all humans are self-centered. That’s why Wan is responsible for the huge change in Raava. She no longer saw humanity as a plague that spread across the earth but instead saw the goodness they could be capable of. She saw the light they held in their souls. Over the next ten thousand years, Raava witnessed many things – good and bad but in the end, she still chooses to re-bond with Korra. Unlike with Wan it was truly her choice, even if she never regretted it in the first place.

Being the spirit of light and peace means Raava is nearly everything that entails. She is a pure being, not capable of doing a great of harm (except towards Vaatu) or even speaking untruths. That doesn’t mean she has to always tell people everything all at once. No, some things can be kept to herself for a time but if asked a question, chances are she will answer it. Or at least never lie to you. Harming people isn’t really something she does either. That doesn’t mean she won’t if she has to. Once she swatted Wan like a fly away from her. He wasn’t harmed and landed in a tree rather safely but Raava did strike him. Rather, she’d protect them if she could. While fighting with Vaatu was necessary, she has only once lifted a tendril towards a human – and that was to stop Wan from attacking her first. Self-defense and the protection of the world are something Raava will fight for. She has also gone out of her way to help humans when they couldn’t protect themselves.

That being said Raava is very attached to her humans. Starting out she wouldn’t have cared about the life of one human being versus that of the entire world. However by the time Harmonic Convergence came around and her presence in Wan’s body threatened to destroy him, she cared very much about one specific person. It’s grown into a fierce protectiveness that none can rival and it definitely shows when she manages to talk to Korra. Not only that but when they are in trouble, Raava could provide a boost of power in the Avatar State. She would give her life if it meant they could live on. On rare occasions, when the Avatar isn’t in control of themselves – well, guess what that glow is? It’s partially Raava. Yes, it is also the combination of all of the Avatar’s past lives but connecting to them wouldn’t be possible without the Light Spirit they’re bonded to. When in those life-or-death situations, she won’t hesitate to lash out at those who would harm both her and her human. Raava also would give the last of her strength in order to save a person that she had come to like. Before being permanently bonded to Wan, Raava pulled his unconscious body from the middle of a fight despite the danger of it. All of that chaos meant she was weak and vulnerable but she still carried him away from danger.

On top of all of that protectiveness is something Raava never really had before. It was trust. Sure, she’s carried the weight of the world on her shoulders so that meant that she knew that spirits had placed their trust in her. Most humans had no idea of her existence and therefore she didn’t expect their trust. Due to that, she had anyone to put her own trust in. The balance and peace of the world was her duty and there wasn’t anyone who could help her with that. Suddenly Raava had this gangly, foolish human who wanted to help her and she spurned him at first. A lion turtle (who even she called Ancient) sort of tossed them together and Wan still insisted that together they could defeat Vaatu. All at once she had to put her trust in him – at least a little bit. The longer they were together, the more she actually believed that together they could do it. It was such a strange concept to her. At the end of their life, she truly believed that they could bring balance back to the world and it’s held strong even after all of these years. By the time Korra came along, it was her who believed in the human. – telling her not to give up.

Over time, she has also come to be protective over the entire world as well. It’s hard not to be when for ten thousand years Raava has worked to bring peace to the world once again. Of course it’s also part of being bonded to a human and sharing their lives with them. She cares for the people that the Avatar did and that extended to beyond just the people around them. In general, Raava cared about the state of the world and not letting it fall into darkness or letting humanity die off but that had just been part of her duty. Once she learned that there were humans capable of everything that was good, Raava started to look at them different. And looking at them differently meant seeing them not just as a whole but individually too. Once she started looking at them that way, she saw that not all of them were foolish idiots but some of them were quite great or had the potential to be great. Being so long-lived, she has seen humanity grow from the very start of their creation. Granted she paid more attention after meeting Wan but it’s hard not to get attached to them as a whole – even when they only act with violence.

Part of that is caring. Caring about what happens to them because the Avatars care. Of course she cared about what happened to them before Wan came along but it’s changed. It was about not letting Vaatu win and sinking everything in darkness and chaos. Now it’s a more specific kind of caring. She doesn’t want to let humanity be terminated, to lose everything that the humans have accomplished through all of their struggles. Sure, not all humans show the nobility that they are capable of but there are some who show such courage that Raava doesn’t want to lose that in the world. She can also be encouraging when it’s needed. While generally Raava didn’t communicate with a lot of the Avatars, it showed with those she could. When Wan was discouraged by his failure to balance to the world at the end of his life, she told him that they would be together for all of their lifetimes and that they would never give up. The same was true of when Korra almost let Unavaatu defeat her; Raava was able to encourage her to keep fighting.

Raava is a strong individual – not really physically but mentally. To keep Vaatu under her control for ten thousand years at a time is not just a test of physical strength - it was her life. Other spirits got to wander around freely while she was locked in an eternal struggle with her dark half. Not many would be able to keep their sanity if that was all that their life was about. On top of that, she’s been bonded to a human for ten thousand of those years, most of which she wasn’t able to talk to. First the fighting and now a mute with another’s thoughts bonded with hers on top of thousands of lives. That takes a great deal of strength to live with.

Being tens of thousands years old, Raava is like most near-immortal species and is slow to change. Sure, one person can change what she thinks or believes shortly after meeting but that can be few and far in between. There are just some ways that Raava is stuck in and needs someone to jar her loose. Words will never be enough. She has to witness things in order to see that what she believes is wrong. Being bonded to a human who is so quick to change has allowed her to see many wondrous things as she laid witness to the world through their eyes but change in general can be difficult - especially to someone as long-lived as Raava. While she has a better understanding of humanity because of the bond, there are still many things she doesn’t know.

[Flight:] One of Raava's most basic abilities is the power of flight. This allows her to not just fly but also to hover. Bones are not really a thing with her either so it's used to keep her upper body up straight.

["Hold" Abilities:] An unusual ability she has is the power to hold abilities - specifically the elements of her world. This means that the powers are inside of her but she isn't actually capable of using them. Currently, she holds the four elements shown in the Avatar series: fire, air, water, earth. Due to the fact that humans cannot bend more than one element at a time, Raava is responsible for holding the other elements.

[Ability Swap:] Now the ability swap occurs when she flies through a human and can quite literally switch one element for another. One minute Wan could firebend and after she passes through him, he'd be able to airbend. However, the strain of this act can be rather painful for the human. If she were to do constantly swap powers with a person, they could get used to the sensation and pain but it would always hurt a little. The person would be able to adjust more quickly and wouldn’t need a minute where they could potentially get killed. On top of that, they would have to practice bending the elements because mastery does not come easy. They may be able to produce a flame or move a rock if they're suited to the element but even then they'll need to practice. Due to this, Raava would never leave a power with someone unless something had happened to her before she could. (NOTE: If this is too godmoddy - maybe it could be limited to those without powers at all or just those with powers. She would take it back eventually but it could be helpful on the temporary side. And none of this would be done without mun permission.)

[Human Possession:] All spirits can possess a human but unlike them, Raava does not leave physical marks. Thought it is very painful for the host if she stays in them too long and they could die (we're talking a couple of minutes at most but of course, this would vary considering the types of individuals in Haven). On the upside, this allows the human to wield all four elements at once and eventually became known as the Avatar State - or the "glow". While possessing a human, Raava can teach the person's she's possessing just about anything - this happens through an exchange of knowledge. Unfortunately, because of her temporary destruction there is no connection to the past lives she shared with the Avatar. They will not gain the combined knowledge, skill or experience of them, nor will they be able to talk to any of the past Avatars. Not only do they share a body and mind but also a heart, they can often feel the emotions of the other but usually this happens with a straight possession. (Note: Of course, temporarily melding would be easy for her to do it with one of the Avatars without consequences because she's technically already permanently bonded to them. This would maybe last a few minutes. But for any others, there would be pain if she tried it. None of this will be done without permission.)

[Avatar State:] She can permanently be bonded with a person without causing them harm but it takes the power of the Harmonic Convergence combined with the Spirit Portal to achieve this. Once this happens, she is bonded to them forever (barring any unusual circumstances) and is "born" alongside the reincarnated soul. (Note: Not possible in Haven at all.)

[Immortality:] Raava is a spirit - more specifically the spirit of peace and light so she cannot truly die because there is no darkness without light. An attack on her would result in a hole or missing piece but it is a wound she could heal, though it might mean her size and strength fades. Even if she were to be destroyed, she would be reborn out of her counterpart, Vaatu, though it would take a long time. Aside from that, Raava doesn't require the same things a human would: sleep, food, water are not things she needs. In fact, she doesn't really have a mouth or any organs at all. (IMPORTANT: Due to this, rather than the sick feelings she would get for not being in her apartment maybe Raava could get weaker and smaller.)

[Spirit of Peace and Light:] Like yin and yang, Raava is only one part of a bigger whole. Her opposite is Vaatu, spirit of chaos and darkness, and they were in perfect harmony over ten thousand years ago - neither could overpower the other. However, all of that changed when Wan separated them. Chaos grew and peace faded. This is important because it affects Raava's power and size. The more choas there is, the smaller and the less powerful her abilities will be - even her most natural ability of flight will be harder for her to accomplish. Of course, when the world is filled with peace, Raava will be at her most powerful and will be the max size allowed in Haven.

Items/Weapons: None. Raava has no items or weapons. What does a spirit need them for? :\

[personal profile] apologetic 2014-08-10 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
In terms of personality, Oichi is far from having the strongest. She’s weak-willed and most would say she’s a bit insane to some extent of the word. Of course, this all depends on who she interacts with and whether or not they really know the reasons behind it all.

A quiet and subservient girl, Oichi is one who isn’t against following anyone who shows her even the slightest bit of affection (or in the case of her Blue Route, whoever speaks the sweetest words), no matter what they may have in plan. On the other hand, she may also follow one because she likes them enough (ex: her Ieyasu route, expanded further by her response to Maeda Keiji when he suggests she returns home with him, to which she basically says “I’d rather stay with him than go with you.”). It’s this mindset that other people may consider her to be the clingy type, though there is truth in that: if she likes the person, she’ll follow them until she dies. The reason behind this is, because she’s the last living member of her family, she tends to cling to anything that will fill the emptiness she feels.

Another part to Oichi is that she tends to feel split between what she should do and what she was told not to do, which she tends to go with the shouldn’t. If one were to tell her she should stay behind and be safe, despite knowing she should, she ends up following instead (shown more during her route with Ieyasu). It’s stated more in the third game that it’s because she’s lonely and being told to stay behind just causes her more pain.

Through her route in the third game, and most of her story in the second, it’s hinted that the shadow hands she uses as her weapon are what’s causing her mind to be warped. It’s pushed a bit more in an alternate route the other characters can take, as she gains a moment of clarity after she’s defeated. It’s also through the use of them that she tends to find a bit of joy in the carnage she creates, which is something she generally disliked previously.

She’s also one who believes everything is her fault and tends to apologize constantly, even if it wasn’t her fault in the first place. Before his death, Nagamasa was the one who often told her to stop blaming herself for everything, it wasn’t her fault something didn’t go as planned. It was through his words that she would stop, if only to fall back into her old habit the next time something happened. After his death, however, Nobunaga (her brother) mentioned that the reason he had to raise his hand and kill her beloved husband was because of her. And without Nagamasa to tell her otherwise, she believed it.

However, after witnessing his (Nagamasa's) death, her mind started to spiral into a madness. Believing she was hearing Nagamasa’s voice telling her to carry out his revenge on the Demon King, she set out to do just that. Though it just caused her mind to spiral even deeper, to the point where she even blocked out all her memories of Nagamasa by the time she was introduced in the third game. It’s said that, because of how he treated her, she had held Nagamasa to being pretty important in her life, which was also wiped out in her forced amnesia. However, in that previously mentioned clarity, she calls out his name momentarily, pushing the “the hands are the blockage” idea even more.

The one thing most people will noticed first with Oichi though is that she rarely smiles. Aside from her laughter and smiling at the carnage she creates, she mostly wears a look of confusion or is usually seen frowning. She also tends to speak in third person when she refers to herself (“Ichi this” and “Ichi that”, though the localization seems to have dropped it for the more general "I/me/my, etc"), and at times, her tone of voice tends to change: one second she may speaking in a childlike manner while the next, it’s much more serious, dark, and cryptic. To those that don’t know her personally, it’s this kind of thing that would cause one to believe she’s not exactly all there or even mentally stable.

As mentioned before, her subservient nature causes her to follow without question. This usually means she may follow one who only wants to end the wars or follow one on his quest for revenge. It’s played a bit more during the chosen canon point, where she follows Mitsunari Ishida on his own plans to take down Ieyasu. Yoshitsugu Otani, Mitsunari’s most trusted general, had decided she would be of good use for the Western army, though with a subplan of using her to harness her skills to spread even more chaos and pain. She doesn’t question these actions, following any order given to her until her skills are at their peak, to which they end up not only taking out Ieyasu but Yoshitsugu himself. (It’s also played a bit in her Ieyasu route, though it could be said that she still had the hope for a peaceful land.)

Despite all this, she can muster up the will to do something if her heart is fully in it. Shown more in her alternate route in the third game, she sees how the world is without her brother in it and, knowing he’s looking to return, she takes off to stop him personally. At her success, she ends up dragging him back into the underworld with her. Though this moment for her is rare, it definitely shows she can be strong when she needs to be.

It should be noted that, even though it was common for many women in the time period, Oichi doesn’t have “Oda” or “Azai” (and later in historical records, “Shibata”) attached to her name. Being born into one (Oda) and married into the other (Azai), the two clans weigh heavily on her mind. However, by the third game, she’s bearing the Oda crest. Though whether or not she fully supports the Oda or not is never really revealed. As far as one can assume, it’s because she’s the rightful heir to the “throne”, as she is the Demon King’s sister.

As far as interactions go, her personality tends to mold to whoever it is she’s speaking to. Throughout the game, she comes to being in contact with most of the key players though her main interactions tends to be more centered towards Mitsunari and Yoshitsugu, Ieyasu (who was a former ally of the Oda before Nobunaga’s death), Nobunaga, and the Oracle from Iyokono, Tsuruhime.

While the others knew of Oichi in some form, Tsuruhime is the one who had never met Oichi until she stumbled into Kanegasaki during her route. Despite this, the Oracle took to Oichi fast, noticing how sad and lonely the other seemed to be. In return for her kindness, Oichi affectionately calls the younger girl “White Bird”, a play on the translation of her name (Crane Princess). Though she had originally mistook the archer for being Mori Ranmaru, a young archer in the Oda army before his own death. One could definitely say though that, through meeting Tsuruhime, Oichi seemed to lighten up some.

In the end, she's quite the complex character. Quiet and weak-willed at times, possibly insane and childish during others. Though, after everything, she can muster up the strength to do what she truly wishes to do when the time comes.

Abilities/Powers:
Because of Sengoku BASARA and its crazy physics defying self, Oichi, while originally equipped with using a regular naginata, is able to use super creepy shadow hands (as of Sengoku BASARA 3). They can be used as a weapon or as something as simple as holding her while she’s “running” (during the fast sprint).

When used in battle, she’s able to do various things from basic swipe attacks to grabbing multiple enemies to bash into the ground for a period of time.

Specials with such include:

  • Painful Death
Summons hands to grab enemies in the area around them.

  • Forgotten Sins
Calls out a hand to send enemies in front of her flying. Can be used while also running.

  • Hollow Moon
Attaches hands to her back to give her a “wing-like” effect. One use is a regular “clamping” effect while a hold down of the attack button allows her to aerial hit. (As of the expansion to SB3, Utage, the aerial version can be chained.)

  • Deep Scars
Calls two hands out to trap and smash enemies together.

She also has access to three secret/special skills.

  • Dancing Dead
Summons hands to grab and throw enemies. Can be used to absorb health if enemies are held for a longer period of time.

  • Ocean Wisps
Opens the door to the underworld and pulls nearby enemies in.

  • Lifeless Song
Calls hands to randomly attack. Ends with two straight and powerful blasts.

And like the rest of the cast, she has access to a BASARA, or an Ultimate Attack. This only happens when her BASARA gauge in-game is filled completely. Oichi’s own has her submerged into the shadows only to resurface atop a giant shadow hand.

[Everything was strange. Unfamiliar. The place she had woken up in had not been the same camp she had laid down in shortly after her talk with Ieyasu. Haven, she had heard it be called.]

Haven for what?

[Curiosity for the name aside, one hand turned over the device she had found beside her. Another to add to the list of strange things. She had heard and seen others through it, meaning it was for communication.

While using it was still confusing, it wouldn't help her in finding that missing person any if she didn't at least try using the unknown device.

Ichi is looking for someone. [A pause to think.] He is much like the sun, bright and warm. And I must find him, to protect him.

[Yes. Even in this place, as strange as it was, she would still stick by her promise to protect the sun.]

Koujaku | DRAMAtical Murder | reserved | 2/2

[personal profile] beni_shigure 2014-08-10 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Charming, friendly, and devilishly handsome, Koujaku is a world-class ladies' man with skills to pay the bills. Having been born the illegitimate son of a yakuza leader, Koujaku's early years were spent upon Midorijima island, where he became a sort of older brother figure to DRAMAtical Murder's protagonist, Aoba Seragaki. This is most likely due to Koujaku's unwavering compassion for those around him, as he is more than willing to stand up for anyone whom he feels is being treated unjustly.

Koujaku is also a firm proponent of chivalry, maintaining that women are the "treasure of the world" and deserved to be treated like royalty, simply because he finds them to be beautiful and cute. He is relatively easygoing and sociable, earning a very popular reputation with the women about Midorijima as both a top-knotch hairdresser and a smooth-talking ladykiller. Unlike most casanovas, however, Koujaku doesn't seem to be reviled by his previous one-night stands; in fact, he seems all the more well-loved for his romantic conquests. Sleeping around is somewhat of a pastime for him, and he has been known to bring his clients back to his house every so often.

Beneath the veneer of the affable, charming hairdresser lies an extremely wrathful individual with a difficult past. Born of the union between a yakuza boss and his mistress, Koujaku was, at his father's behest, forcefully tattooed by a renown artist at a very young age as some sort of twisted experiment in human control. The artist had imbued Koujaku's tattoos with something resembling a curse: if Koujaku's anger ever reached a point he couldn't control, he would go into a berserker rage and destroy anything and everything around him. It's after this tattooing process is completed that the curse itself kicked in, causing Koujaku to cut down everyone in the immediate vicinity with his trusty sword. While most people he had attacked recovered, his mother was killed in the onslaught.

While Koujaku's relationship with his mother is only briefly glossed over, one can assume that they were fairly close, having lived together both with and away from the yakuza family he had been born into. His mother's death by his hand instilled within him a sense of regret so deep that he contemplated taking his own life in the aftermath of his mother's murder. The only thing that kept him from doing so, however, were memories of a childhood friend he had met on Midorijima.

Koujaku longed to return to a time before the tragedy, which is more than understandable; with that, he strengthened his resolve and returned to Midorijima, where he and his mother had lived before returning to the mainland to be closer to the yakuza family. They had moved initially to avoid Koujaku's having to succeed the yakuza head, but they had eventually been called back to the mainland after being away on Midorijima for a few years. It was during those years that Koujaku met Aoba and Aoba's grandmother, Tae. He and Aoba had become fast friends, though Koujaku had initially mistaken Aoba for a girl; he had intervened when Aoba was being bullied by two older children for his hair.

Koujaku had quickly taken Aoba under his wing, playing with him when he was left alone at home. He was several years older than Aoba, but their age difference never caused a rift between the two of them; if anything, it solidified Koujaku's position as the "older brother" figure. Though Aoba considers Koujaku to be his "hero," in reality, it's the memory of Aoba's smiling face that keeps Koujaku from committing suicide and carrying on with his life, burdens and all.

Koujaku has an iron will, as evidenced by his resolve to keep on living after the horrors he was forced to live through. He also possesses a rather low boiling point when it comes to Aoba, flying into a rage whenever he senses that his friend is being threatened or harrassed, though he knows full well that he can take care of himself now. Koujaku displays a surprisingly vulnerable, tender side when it comes to Aoba, teasing him and brightening whenever the other comes around. While he is primarily interested in women, Koujaku has a "thing" for Aoba, one that surpasses any other feelings he may have had for anyone else in his life. While he isn't quick to label it as "love," there's definitely something there, though Koujaku is content to let sleeping dogs lie in that regard.

Another testament to Koujaku's will is his ability to hide all of the anger and self-loathing within himself from Aoba, instead putting on a front of being an upbeat, friendly ladies' man. This isn't to say that Koujaku isn't naturally cheerful and positive, but he obviously has deep wounds that have yet to heal. His relationships with women are more often than not superficial, though he has no issue talking to and approaching them; in contrast, he has a hard time putting his feelings into words when talking to Aoba in spite of their closeness.

Koujaku is quick to assist others with their problems, but he, much like Aoba, is terrible at dealing with his own issues. His anger towards Ryuuhou, the artist who tattooed him, completely eclipses his sense of reason, and it literally takes someone with mindbending power to get him to calm down when it comes to anything regarding him. While Koujaku's boiling point isn't especially low, it's nearly impossible to bring him back to himself once he reaches that point; when it comes to true love and revenge, he definitely plays for keeps, though he has no issue playing the field otherwise.

Koujaku also has a lot of pride and, when challenged, is unwilling to back down from a fight. As the leader of the Ribsteez team Benishigure, he is respected and well-loved by his members, who are unwaveringly loyal and willing to put their lives on the line for the sake of their leader. His team was a force for good back on the mean streets of Midorijima, which stands as a testament to both Koujaku's kind heart and his leadership ability. While mostly affable, Koujaku is definitely no pushover; though he isn't one to start fights, he is most definitely the one to finish them, whether with a swift blow from his fists or with a slice of his blade. While he understands that words will take him farther than violence a lot of the time, he also understands that people don't always agree with him in that regard... and who is he to deny them a good time if they come at him with swinging fists?

Abilities/Powers: Koujaku possesses fairly decent fighting prowess, both with a sword and without. He can handle himself very well in street brawls as well as in swordfights, though his strength is average for a man of his size. His tattoos, however, tell a different story; they effectively allow Koujaku to "hulk out" with disastrous consequences. Koujaku is a veritable berserker in this state, destroying friend and foe alike. His tattoo functions as a sort of "curse" put on him, one that feeds on his rage and self-loathing to the point where it completely eclipses his reason and turns him into little more than a feral beast. This isn't something he can really turn on and off at will; there's no real explanation for how he comes back from his rages, and the only time we actively see him come back to himself is when Aoba enters Koujaku's mind and uses Scrap on him.

He's also a pretty popular hairdresser in a fairly trendy town, so one could add that to his storied resume of abilities.

Items/Weapons: Koujaku will likely arrive with his sword, which he keeps strapped to his back a majority of the time. Aside from that, just the clothes on his person!

Sample Entry: Meme sample, if that's alright! (vaguely ambling into nsfw territory) and yet another!

Sample Entry Two: Koujaku knew before opening his eyes that the bed he was lying in wasn't his. For one, he didn't own an alarm clock. He had Beni for that sort of thing, and he never had a hard time waking up on time for anything, besides.

A faint rustling from the other side of the room is what startled him most, moreso than the alarm; with a swift movement, he pushed himself out of the bed... only to be greeted with the faces of people who looked just as alarmed as he must have felt. While he wasn't exactly a professional when it came to reading body language, he could tell that the surprise and confusion on his companions' faces was far from feigned, and it made his situation all the more disturbing.

Quirking a brow, he folded his arms across his chest, taking a mental recount. He remembered speaking with Aoba in that warehouse, but after that his memory comes up blank. Even more disturbing, Beni didn't seem to be anywhere nearby, and his Coil had gone suspiciously missing, also.

"You look about as lost as I am," he said, addressing the strangers in front of him. He managed to flash a winning smile in spite of his uneasiness before turning to the window behind him. It was there that he was greeted with the sight of a large billboard, which practically slapped him across the face with its disturbing imagery and vaguely utopian slogan.

"Clear would have fit right in here," he managed to mutter to himself with a chuckle, his eyes falling upon the gas masks in the man and woman's hands. In spite of his frazzled nerves, the thought of his friend gave him a small sense of comfort. Perhaps he only needed to venture out of this strange room to get the answers he needed.

Character Name: Colette Brunel
Canon: Tales of Symphonia
Canon Point: About two years after the events of the first game, but before the plot of the sequel starts.
Background/History: tales of symphonia wiki and Colette's wiki

Personality: Describing Colette isn’t difficult on the surface. She’s nice! And sweet. And adorable. And bubbly. And a number of other adjectives used to describe either babies or sugary confections. Without a doubt a bit of an airhead, she trips and stumbles and giggles her way through a number of situations, often making an entire group facepalm at her naivety. Innuendos fly over her head, and she's known to be incredible slow on the uptake.

It can be exasperating, but the girl makes up for it with her endless well of kindness and consideration. She is patient, a wonderful listener, never complains, and easily takes up the mantle as everyone’s cheerleader. No matter how big or small an accomplishment, Colette will be on the front lines, throwing all her support behind the people she cares about. And to boot, she is quite brave when someone’s emotional needs (or their life) are on the line. She pulls Lloyd out of a meltdown when the truth of his heritage is unveiled, and also votes to assist towns when they’re being attacked by Desians, despite needing to complete her journey as soon as possible. If someone is in need, she will do everything in her power to help.

Thus it isn’t too surprising that optimism is her default – almost painfully so. She strives to see the best in everything and everyone, including those who have done nothing to earn her good-will. Resisting friendship with Colette can be something of an ordeal, in fact. One of her closest friends, Sheena, once tried to kill her multiple times, and after each failed attempt, Colette just smiled and acted as though it was of little consequence – because Sheena struck her as a good person, and in Colette’s eyes, that was the end of it.

All of this is partially due to the girl’s own innate selflessness, the desire and need to put a smile on everyone’s face, but it also ties in to how she was raised. Colette wasn’t meant to live for long. She was born into the world of Sylvarant as the next Chosen of Regeneration, destined to defeat the Desians and restore mana back to the world. Without mana, crops wouldn’t grow, technological advances would forever be out of reach, and eventually, the world would wither away. Thus, on her shoulders rested the fate of the world, something she knew since a very young age. If losing her human life and becoming an angel was the only way to save everyone, she’d willingly bear her title. Helping others has been her life’s purpose by design, and for all the struggles it’s given her, Colette has never bore her destiny with bitterness – only with humble acceptance.

Of course, this comes with consequences. Being chosen as the world’s martyr doesn’t breed healthy self-esteem. Colette is painfully aware her title sets her apart from others, when really, she wouldn’t mind being a normal girl with normal problems. If not for Genis and Lloyd, she never would have had friends growing up – just fans and supporters and critics, all unwittingly wishing her a speedy death. She doesn’t blame anyone for this, wouldn't dare criticize the world for wanting a savior, but it does lead to a darker facet of her own selflessness: that sweet little smile of hers is not always genuine. She hurts, she worries, she sometimes wishes things had turned out differently, but she hides (often poorly) these perfectly normal reactions in an attempt to shield others from her perceived selfishness. Everyone has their own troubles to deal with, after all. It’s not worth putting her friends through extra stress because she can’t carry her own emotional burdens. And besides, she’s the Chosen; in the grand scheme of things, her needs should come dead last.

This lack of self-worth becomes such a problem that at one point in the game, Colette develops a disease which is slowly turning her body into crystal… and she tells no one. It’s shameful, for one, proof that she failed her sacred duty, but more than that, she’s disgusted with herself and convinced everyone will think the same. For all the love and affection she shows the world, Colette doesn’t really extend the same courtesy to herself.

If she were taken from mid-game, there would be nothing else to say on the matter – her self-sacrificial streak would still be in place - but by the final battle, after having watched her friends constantly fight to keep her alive, Colette has learned to accept a valuable lesson: her life holds meaning too, beyond the title of Chosen, and shackling herself to an outdated tradition won't save the world. Even if it’s difficult (and to be sure, she still often holds her problems close to heart), she mustn’t falter from what her friends have taught her. Choosing to live is the greatest gift she can give herself, and it’s a gift she deserves. She can still be the same mature, selfless, silly girl with room in her heart for two worlds, and a little room left over for herself.

Abilities/Powers:

• super strength; able to pick up an almost 200 pound man with one hand, like he's a bag of feathers.

• super hearing; can easily hear a conversation/approaching footsteps from far away.

• super sight; able to see detail across large distances.

• chakrams; Colette fights with a pair of chakrams - bladed disks that she can throw from a distance, or use for close combat. She has fought with them long enough to allow for extreme accuracy.

• angelic magic; Light/holy based magic. Linked here for details. Colette can use Angel Feathers, Holy Song, Sacrifice, Grand Cross, Judgment, and Holy Judgment.

• angel wings;. She has pink wings that sprout from her back, that she can put away on command. She is capable of flying with them.

Items/Weapons:

• Her Cruxis Crystal
• Chakrams

Sample Entry Two:

Colette finally stirs on the bed – not at the faint traces of light sneaking through the window, or the fact she's slept in so late that her Grandmother will soon be knocking on her door, but to a source of discomfort that has outlined her subconscious for the past hour: a stiff mattress refusing to give way to her frame, uncomfortable and scratchy, smelling of mold and dust. Not even a blanket to cover her.

So unlike her bed in Iselia – and it’s that thought which makes her tense on the spot.

She blinks her eyes open soon after that; whatever hope that this was just a scatterbrained fantasy dies soon after. Kidnapped is the word that comes to mind, so quick and concise she doesn't think about how she's had enough experience to justify the choice. The room is thrown into sharp clarity: gray walls, unkept floors, and five other beds lined up, with people sitting on them. Said five others look just as confused as she feels. Whatever is happening, it isn't just to her.

It breaks the thin veil of fear covering her, until her heart aches with concern. Introductions are soft and a little awkward on all their parts. The people - good, kind people who answer all her questions with patience - use the word "Haven" and Colette can't begin to guess where that is. But by the end, her smile has returned. Confusion and worry will be her companions for some time, until she can figure out what has happened to her family, to Iselia, but that doesn't mean she can't spare a smile or two for those who need it most.

Personality:
"hello, thank you for calling. this is junk shop heibon."
Junk Shop Heibon? Yeah, that's the place. The one where that guy works... you know, the one with the really nice voice. Huh? You wanna know more about him? Guess you're just as interested too...well, what can it hurt?

Aoba.

His name is Seragaki Aoba. Born and raised on Midorijima, and twenty three years old. That's if you want the bare bone facts and nothing else, of course. Aoba's a good guy who gets caught up in some weird fucking shit, easy and amiable to get along with, though he's not all that great with children (you can hear him yelling at those three neighbourhood brats sometimes). Sure, sometimes he's a little more hot-headed than he should be, but who isn't?

But it's not that he's got a quick temper or anything like that. I mean, he does his best to get along with the people around him, so don't get me wrong.

It's more like... once he gets flustered, he gets really flustered. Blushing, stammering, maybe even a little bit of yelling. The whole nine yards. Like many people, Aoba flounders when he doesn't know what to do or is caught off guard. And if you overdo the friendly ribbing, he won't be against the idea of a little retribution either. He's got a real sarcastic streak to him too, but snide remarks and the like? He keeps most of it to his inner dialogue. Still, Aoba takes things into stride as well as he can, which is partly why he's got all kind of friends and acquaintances in Midorijima.

Like Mizuki. You know, the leader of Dry Juice, biggest Rib team around? Aoba knows him. And that womanising hair dresser who's always hanging around Aoyagi street? Yeah, they're old friends. Not to mention those Yakuza not-twins who show their faces once in a while... they're acquaintances of Aoba's too (though they prefer the term fans.). And Yoshie-san, the Delivery Works owner? Okay, that one's more of a reluctant work relationship. The point is, Aoba's the kind of guy people get along with and greet on the street with a smile.

I know what you're thinking-- a friendly guy like that, well, he must be a real pushover, right? Wrong. Laid-back as he is, you're asking for an ass-kicking if you try to do something juvenile like shake him down for change, or at the very least, a snide comment in return for your uncomplimentary compliment. Break into his house? He's the guy who'll go after you with a bat instead of cowering and calling the police. Though in Midorijima, there's always the chance the police will arrest you right along with the burglar.

Honestly, you couldn't ask for a better friend, because Aoba does his best to understand people and accept people for whom they are, and does what he can to help them. He's not the kind of person to condemn someone for their actions, preferring to understand the circumstances and reasoning behind what they do. Take Mink, for example. A man who's done nothing but harm to him, yet when Aoba finds out why he did what he did, he finds himself re-evaluating his character and forgiving him despite the fact that what Mink did could be considered unforgivable.

But it's not like he was always such a goody two shoes either. Aoba had a real wild streak back in the day. Drugs, sex, violence-- you name it, he did it. Scary, right? Almost like he was a person devoid of reason or restraint, and did only what he desired.

"reason. desire. restraint."

Everyone has these characteristics. Not everyone goes so far as to divide them into such distinct categories though. But hey, no one's perfect, and sometimes what the human mind does what it has to in order to cope. In Aoba's case, due to his infant self being unable to cope with the power of Scrap, he created two offshoot egos to protect the balance of his mind: desire and restraint. If you want to get Freudian here, this is a direction reflection of the id, ego, and superego theory.

Sounds complicated, right?

But stay with me here! Now, Aoba himself is reason. There was a time when Aoba remained locked in his own world with only restraint and desire to keep him company until the day Nine (Aoba's father) found him on the beach and quelled the turmoil within him. However, following the departure of his parents from Midorijima, Aoba began to feel uneasiness once more and his reason wavered.

To say that can "desire" can be classified as good or evil would be wrong. Aoba's desire (his other self) simply followed its wants and did whatever it liked, regardless of the morality of it. It's instinct in its purest form. Unfortunately, destruction was what it sought. During the time that desire influenced Aoba, his behaviour was reckless, threatening, and downright aggressive. He didn't care what happened to him or anyone else as long as he could sate his own appetites.

So what changed? Nowadays, despite his outwardly friendly disposition, Aoba's reluctant to truly involve himself with anything that might bring trouble, preferring to keep his head down and do his own thing. Rib or Rhyme or anything like that, count him out. Forgive the pun, but for a lack of better words it was as though Aoba regained his reason.

It was for his grandmother. You know how the saying goes. Blood is thicker than water, etcetc. Funny thing is, they're not even related by blood. But family, you know?

Yeah, go ahead and scoff. He's a family kind of guy, and she's all he has left, ever since his parents left. And one day, after a particularly violent episode involving him, he witnesses his grandmother crying in the kitchen-- presumably for Aoba. She's always done the best she could for him. So in atonement for all the grief he's caused her by going wild in his teenage years, Aoba does his very best to live a normal life from that day on. It goes without saying that his relationship with her is something irreplaceable. And Aoba went to through some pretty crazy lengths to save her when she was kidnapped. He's willing to take on just about anything for the people he cares about. A gang of ex-convicts? No problem. A fight where the odds are tilted 4:1? Bring it on. Sure, if it's for someone he cares about deeply.

That's what makes us all human. The ability to care for people and help them when they're in need. And because Aoba's only human (despite his weirder abilities and the fact that he was a test tube baby), he's got his share of flaws too. But that's what makes people endearing, right? Haha. Let's start with something easy... like how it should be easy to remember something as simple as locking the door in the morning when you leave. Or it would be, if Aoba wasn't absent-minded like that, and slightly irresponsible to boot. When you're running late for your part time job because you've overslept, forgetting to lock up can be overlooked in the race against the clock, yeah?

He sure beats himself up over it though when it eventually leads to a break-in while his grandmother is home (and injured, a real Red Riding Hood tale) and unprotected. He gets hung up on his mistakes, even when they're not his fault. Over-thinking is a bad habit that Aoba falls victim to more often than not. It's also a trait of his that Ren constantly scolds him for, often telling him not to overdo it. But despite this, Aoba ends up making some pretty awful snap judgements sometimes.

Say you met a person recently. The kind of guy that seems perfectly nice and all on the outside, but something about them just sets you on an edge. Like a gut feeling. You know he's suspicious, but you just can't put your finger on why. Normally when you run into someone like that, you'd think twice before going anywhere with them, yeah? Aoba's the kind of guy who'd think twice, but go ahead anyway. It's not that he's dumb-- he just has a tendency to make bad decisions in spite of all his thinking. Plus, he really does have an innate desire to believe the best in people.

But it's because of that aspect of him that attracts all sorts of people to him and enables him to accept them into his life.

When everything's said and done, more often than not Aoba is the one who ends up saving everyone who becomes involved with him (and himself) with his power-- by destroying the anchor that weighs them down and allowing them a second chance at living. It may be the death of one route, but it's only the beginning of another.

Abilities/Powers:
d e s t r o y
Imagine being able to command someone to do whatever you wanted with nothing but the power of your voice. Come on, you might say. There's no way something like that's possible! Well, the joke's on you-- it's possible, but there's a price. For Aoba, that price is awful headaches and the possibility of irreparable mind damage. Nothing comes for free, right?

Aside from using Scrap to do anything from pushing sales for Heibon by influencing (wooing, really, if we're being honest) customers with his voice and giving outright commands with a certain intonation to his voice, there's also a darker side to his ability. Something that runs a little deeper than the power of suggestion. When he comes into physical contact with someone, Scrap is amplified and Aoba can literally dive into another person's mind. You know, Inception style only without having to go to sleep and sans a Leonardo DiCaprio lead.

Anyway.

Once he's in there, things can take a turn for the better or the worse. While Scrap can be used to save people from their own selves, it can also destroy their minds. Because he interacts directly with the person's consciousness in this state, anything he says or does to them has a tremendous impact on their psyche. The consequences of failing? He becomes trapped in the person's consciousness as well.

At the present, Aoba's grandmother has written him a prescription to curb and suppress the headaches he gets due to using Scrap.

Personality: Bon gets shit done. The end. Period, exclamation point. But no, really though, in all seriousness-- Bon, or Ryuuji Suguro, has a very killer work ethic. Everything he does, he does seriously. He's not the type to half ass anything. He's more the type to give whatever he's working on, whatever he's doing his full attention. Because that's the type of person he is. He grew up around people with strong morals and a dedication to never give up on their dreams. Which, in turn shaped Bon in to who he is today. He's very passionate about the things he does. He doesn't take anything lightly either, he commits to everything one hundred percent.

He gets slightly-- no. Slightly is probably an understatement. He gets really annoyed when people don't take their education seriously, or take things for granted. He especially dislikes people who skate right on through life, or people who visibly show that they don't really care about doing anything. He gets very irritable with others who don't really show any interest in helping out with group projects as well. Take Takara for example. The guy doesn't contribute much of anything to their cram sessions, and he just sort of sits off to the side when they're testing their knowledge and skills out in the field during little missions. He only helps out when it's absolutely necessary. And that pisses Bon off to the extreme.

The one thing that pisses him off the most is when people look down on him. Sure, he has the tendency to take things a little too seriously at times, and be stern more than he should. But that's just how he is. He's a teen dedicated to fulfill his duties as an exorcist. He has something to prove to everyone and he'll do anything he can to prove it. He wants to show the world that he isn't just this kid who was born into the cursed temple in Kyoto. Everyone always looked down on the temple after that night, and while he shouldn't have taken it personally, he did. He saw how hard his dad had to struggle to get donations to keep the temple alive, let alone making sure that the temple's followers stayed faithful. The people of Myou Dha mean a lot to Bon and he considers them all apart of his family, even if they aren't exactly blood related. Because of this, Bon decided to become an exorcist. And he didn't stop there, oh no. He made it his dream to get strong enough in order to defeat Satan. If he could do that, then he could bring honor back to his temple. No one would have to struggle to make ends meet ever again.

Bon has an incredibly short fuse. It doesn't take all that much to set him off either. It's usually his short temper that gets him into tight situations too. He usually gets into a lot of fights with Izumo and Rin. Most of the time it's over petty things, things they normally don't agree on. But he's never gotten physical with them, well... with Izumo at least. He grabs her collar at one point, but that's as far as he goes with her. With Rin though, it's different. They've gotten into a couple of fist fights. But they seem to understand one another differently afterwards. He's at least able to set his differences aside in order to work with the other person when he needs to. He and Izumo are constantly at each other's throats, but he can at least act cordial when he's around her.

He also has the tendency to be incredibly close minded. He has his own assumptions and sticks with them unless he's verbally or physically proven wrong. He's very stubborn when it comes to changing his belief on something when he's already made his mind up about something. A good example of this would be his friendship with Rin. After he found out that the other was a son of Satan he hated Rin's guts, especially when you take into consideration that when this happened they were starting to be on alright terms with each other. But it didn't stop him from feeling completely and utterly betrayed. After finally coming to an understanding, with Rin proving to be more than just a son of Satan, they were able to move past it and salvage what little friendship they had left. Rin helping take down the Impure King also helped cement things back into place too.

Once you get past his tough exterior, Bon's a pretty decent guy! He looks like someone who could fuck your shit up, but he cares deeply about his friends. If any of them were in trouble he'd do just about anything he could to help them. He doesn't take the word "friendship" lightly. If someone needs his help, he'll be there. Which... sort of gets him down in the dumps once he's realized that one of his closest friends, a brother actually, betrayed him and everyone else. He takes it personally. He wasn't there for his friend when the other needed him most. However the case was. Which is why he personally feels like he needs to drag Shima back to True Cross.

Bon also has the tendency to worry about how often he glares. He's also very much a neat freak, and spends his days off cleaning when he can. He's very good at memorizing and is a really great multi-tasker. He's good enough to focus on chanting while drawing what he needs to in order to get his point across out on a pad of paper.

Abilities/Powers: Bon has incredible memorization skills. When he was younger he used to listen to his father (the highest priest of the Myou Dha sect) chant sutras. After only hearing one certain chant twice, he was able to memorize the entire sutra and repeat it back to his friends without fail. He is also able to recall vast information from books, bibles, and what have you if he's read it enough times. Because of that he was able to recall the entire Gospel of John to find the demon's fatal verse during the exwire certification exam.

This brings me to my next point. Bon is an Aria and Dragoon in training exwire. An Aria is a type of exorcist that take on the utilization of fatal verses. Fatal verses are phrases that are found in the bible and other holy scriptures. Each demon has one fatal verse specifically assigned to them based on build, make, or what have you. Because of his expert memorization skills, Bon has a vast knowledge when it comes to fatal verses. But of course, there are certain demons he doesn't know the specific fatal verse to, so, half the time he has to recite the entire chapter(s) that pertain to the demon in order to get something to register. There are also other sutras he uses solely for protection.
"On basara gini nehatana sowaka." - a barrier that helped Bon block and intercept an attack from Rin.

On basara gini hara nehatana sowaka hikougoshin no in" - a barrier that helped Bon block an attack from Mamushi's Naga.

Dragoons on the other hand are a type of exorcist that fight demons using modern weaponry, such as firearms. All this means is that Bon is somewhat familiar with his way around guns. He's probably capable of using them, if he has to since it's mentioned that he goes to practice every now and then. But he has yet to be seen using them in canon, in the manga at least.

Another thing worth mentioning would be his familiar, Karura. Karura is a demon like phoenix which has the ability to use a strong amount of red flames to incinerate almost everything. He inherited Karura from his father to help destroy the Impure King. It isn't really known if he ever plans on using Karura in a fight because you don't really see the demon after that point. Nor do you see Bon ever mentioning having magic circles (which is something one would need in order to summon a familiar with) on his person either. It could be a possibility that Karura acts just as freely as Rin's familiar, Kuro, does. -- which would eliminate the need or use for magic circles. But for now, not much is known.

Items/Weapons: a sketch pad & marker, his beads, and a headband.
While I am aware Bon wouldn't be able to write anything down on said sketch pad, he wouldn't use it for that. He would use it for it's actual purpose - sketching and doodles.

Sample Entry: a a post from haven? If this is too old let me know and I'll write a new sample.

Sample Entry Two: Empty. He felt completely and utterly empty, and cold. He was kind of hoping that this was some horrendous nightmare that he'd wake up from in five minutes. But five minutes came, and passed. He didn't really flinch either when Yukio put his hand on his shoulder. He hardly felt it he was so... so wrapped up in his own little world. He's usually not like this, he's usually attentive whenever Okumura-sensei talks to him. But he has a good excuse.

His best friend-- no. His brother betrayed him and the others, and for what? Shima never gave a reason. He ignored them so diligently as he gave them his parting words and hopped into the helicopter.

Thank you for trusting me until now!!

What the fuck kind of bullshit parting was that?! He can't even remember giving the command to curl his fists, but they seem to do it so seamlessly on their own. There were so many questions that bubbled up inside of him, just like the acid bubbled up in his stomach. Why? Was Shima really willing to throw away everything they've been through?! Apparently he was. Apparently their friendship didn't mean a damn to the other. He gritted his teeth as he tore his gaze away from the helicopter that grew smaller and smaller the farther it got.

No.... no he couldn't blame Shima for this all on his own. Shima didn't deserve all of the blame, he was partly to blame as well. Shima-- Renzou was his best friend and he didn't even know when the other started calling out for help. Help he never got from Bon or Koneko. So instead he turned to someone else for help. Someone the other felt like he could trust. He was too busy worrying about everything else, that he didn't even stop to worry about his friend. And he hated himself for that. And--

"Suguro-san, we've... we've got to go." Yukio said as he gently shook Bon's shoulders.

"Ah, sorry Okumura-sensei." Ryuuji murmured. And with that he tuned out the rest of what Yukio had to say. He rubbed furiously at his eyes, freaking dust, as he turned around to join the others. He was going to bring Shima back, even if it cost him his life. He'd do it. Because that's what friends do. He'd go through the depths of hell to help his friends out. Even if it meant killing Shima in the process of doing it. He'd be killing apart of himself, as well. But he'll deal with that when he has to cross that bridge later on.

Personality: Susan is sensible. Alright, so that’s a copy from the first line of Wikipedia, but that’s her defining character trait. Above all, Susan is sensible. As she herself says, this doesn’t make her popular or cheerful, or even necessarily right, but she is, at the very least, definite. What this means is that Susan never loses her head, she can always be relied upon to have some sort of plan no matter what’s happened, and if she doesn’t have a plan, she will never run away as it were, but will always strategically retreat. There is a difference. Susan’s sensibility encompasses all areas of her life, but primarily, it manifests in the way she views her status of being a little bit immortal and the granddaughter of the personification of Death. Once upon a time, she was quite keen to live as a normal human, and although she accepted that supernatural beings and phenomena existed, she would have much preferred they kept to their sphere of the world and left her out of affairs. As she once said, her parents never bothered to try and convince her that the Hogfather existed by dressing up and leaving her presents under the tree, but instead, simply gave her the presents in person. And this was exactly because they all knew he existed, and there is a difference between knowing and believing. One doesn’t have to believe in things that one knows is there. Being older now, she has begrudgingly come to accept that her life will never be completely normal and now just carries on with her world-saving responsibilities as if they were part of her job description.

The second thing about Susan is her distinctive aura, accompanied by her Look and her VOICE. As a schoolteacher, she’s had quite a good deal of experience with wielding authority, and in her presence, most people can't help but feel as if they were children being scolded for having done something naughty. She has this effect on more or less everybody, including several anthropomorphic personifications. Even on the few people who are resistant (the only really known one being the completely insane Teatime), she behaves exactly like a stern schoolteacher anyway. It is integrated wholly into her character; she was born to, as she says, tip the wee out of the shoe after a crisis. There is no one more eminently suitable for dealing with children than Susan. But it’s not that they fear her – Rather, children like her a good deal, and she likes them, the only real soft spot about her character. Throughout the novels, she acts as either a schoolmistress or a governess, and she deals with children in the same supremely sensible manner that she deals with anything else. Monsters under the bed? Beat them with a poker. Won’t learn to read? Hand them a copy of an extremely bloody and extremely interesting war book. Can’t tell time? Teleport them to Ankh-Morpork, Klatch, and the Ramtops in rapid succession and let them see the movements of the sun first hand.

Other assorted parts of her character include an excellent sense of humor that few people appreciate, a good deal of sarcasm, a good deal of suppressed anger, and a general feeling of detachment from the world. The longer Susan lives, the more she resigns herself to her inability to entirely fit in to human society, and the more cynical she becomes. She is required, on a more or less regular basis, to save the world, owing to the fact that, though the granddaughter of Death, she is not restricted by the same Rules that he is, being partly mortal. Whenever the Rules are broken by a group of beings called the Auditors who are hellbent on ceasing all human existence, she is the one who has to go and clean up the mess. On that note, Susan treats most everyone with a sort of superior haughty schoolteacher’s disdain, but she really has no enmity towards anyone, with the distinct exception of the Auditors, whom she truly despises. And as they represent perfect Law, it is safe to say that Susan is decidedly on the side of Chaos. Trivial things include her secret penchant for chocolate, her liking for spiders and snakes and most sort of things that people would find off-putting, and a high proficiency with sticklike weapons.

Abilities/Powers: Susan, as an occasional Death, has the vast majority of the abilities that her Grandfather has.

Death's Voice: Susan is able to speak in Death's voice. Commands spoken in this voice must be obeyed and questions asked in this voice must be answered truthfully. It generally manifests as small caps LIKE THIS. She has no sway over people who are not subject to true Death.

Intangibility: Susan is able to become more real than reality and walk through solid objects at will.

Invisibility: Susan is able to render herself functionally invisible to everyone who refuses to see. In the case of her world, it's that people willfully prevent themselves from seeing what is really there; as there are many unusual people in Haven, though, this power will only work on people who have no belief in the supernatural. It is also impossible for her to hide from children.

Soul Seeking: Susan is able to instinctively intuit the location of anyone she's searching for without fail as long as she knows their names. This is how Death finds the souls he needs to collect.

Personal Time: Susan carries her own time with her as a supernatural entity, meaning she is personally immune to time-stop effects while also being capable of stopping time herself.

Crossing Over: Susan is able to transcend the boundaries of space-time, meaning she can exist in more than one space simultaneously. She is not visible or tangible to those existing in the secondary space and exists more like a ghost observing the scene.

Eidetic Memory: Susan's memory is perfect, to the extent that she occasionally remembers brief glimpses of future. However, the ability is largely impractical and of dubious value since she never remembers anything useful.

Death's Door: No doors are denied to Death. No matter if it's to a house, safe, or basement closet, if it's locked by padlock, bolt, combination or password, it will open if Susan desires it.

Amazingly Impressive Hair: Susan's hair rearranges itself at will depending on her whims. When she is angry, it radiates in an entangled mass about her head.

Items/Weapons: Susan will arrive with 1. a fireplace poker which, due to the belief of certain young children she knows, can only harm monsters (figurative and literal), 2. her Grandfather's sword which has the same properties as his scythe and is sharp enough to split atoms, and 3. a My Little Binky toy.

Sample Entry: Link from a game called Craven Castle, mostly in first person.

Sample Entry Two: There is nobody in the world who is quite as accustomed to dealing with strange situations as Susan Sto Helit. Anthropomorphic personality of Death suffering an identity crisis? No sweat. Not quite imaginary household god assassinated by the Auditors of Reality? Grab the poker. The end of the world as we know it due to the total loss of all imagination and belief from the world? Was it really her turn to play the hero again? It was happening far too often; she was starting to see little skeletal rats in black robes haunting her everywhere she turned. ...Though perhaps that was the local bogeyman having a laugh.

What she's never dealt with before, however, is being taken straight from her bed into the middle of an Om-knows-what sort of hellish situation. She's taken a look out the window to be met with a desolate landscape, and she rather thinks she isn't here to be a consultant on lawncare (though they certainly needed one.) Susan is not terribly pleased. Why she immediately uses the phone, though, and taps some pictures to make a call is a mystery. She's never seen one. It is quite likely, perhaps, that she assumed that waking up with strange artifacts in hand tends to indicate that the strange artifact has something to do with your situation. It is equally likely that this is because Susan is, well, Susan. And Susan is never at a complete loss of what to do. A partial loss, perhaps, she's ready to accede, but the idea of panicking really never occurs to her at all.

She'll murmur to herself as the phone picks up.

"Perhaps these pictures are some sort of code... This one here probably means, 'no one ever taught me how to wash my face'. ...Though I'm not terribly sure what that has to do with my being here.

A slight sigh.

"Honestly, Grandfather, you could at least ask if I had time for this nonsense."

Note: Susan is stupidly overpowered so feel free to nerf anything you feel necessary!
