Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:
Canon Characters:

Personality: Aerith is special. She’s grown up knowing that she’s not like the other children. The planet actually speaks to her. She’s been sought after by Shinra’s most elite force, the Turks, for as long as she can remember. But while being special is sometimes polarizing, she doesn’t let it get her down.

She is a generally very happy person despite all of the crap that’s happened in her life: her father dying to protect her and her mother, her mother dying in an attempt to get her to safety, her boyfriend disappearing on a mission and then never returning. All of these things would make a normal person want to break, but not Aerith. She keeps going on, trying to share beauty with the whole of Midgar through her flowers (an idea she got from Zack Fair in the beginning of their relationship.) She’s the one who comforts the others when they’re upset, with varying degrees of success

That’s not to say that she doesn’t get angry or upset. She does. When Cloud, whom she’s hired to be as her bodyguard until she got home, tries to sneak off out of Sector 5 without her, she gets angry at her adopted mother, Elmyra, for even forcing the issue and she is very annoyed with Cloud for agreeing with her mother.

She’s also stubborn to a fault. She is used to taking care of herself and living a not-so-easy life in Midgar’s slums. She refuses to let Cloud leave her back home in Sector Five. Not when she’d promised to show him how to get back to Sector Seven. Another instance of her stubbornness is when she leaves the rest of the group in Gongaga after their trek through the Temple of the Ancients. She knows that she’s the only one who can use the White Materia to help stop Sephiroth, but she doesn’t think to ask the others to come with her to make sure all goes well. Because she can do it on her own.

Another defining trait is her ability to troll. She takes pleasure in teasing her friends and comrades. The most famous example of this is how she manages to get Cloud enough items to make a passable girl to get into Don Corneo’s mansion in an attempt to “rescue” Tifa from the Don’s clutches. Another good example is the fact that she likes to tease Tifa over her very apparent crush on Cloud.

But despite being fairly practical (she’s not deceived about what kind of world she’s grown up in), Aerith has one silly fear. She is afraid of the sky. Zack makes fun of her for it, but considering her connect to the planet, it’s not that far-fetched. The sky and the planet are connected but separated and Aerith feels her attachment to the planet very keenly. However, when the party arrives in Junon, she seems to have at least gotten over that fear a little, as she tells Cloud that she wants to ride on the Highwind when they see it in the sky, and she’s very calm when the group hijacks the Tiny Bronco in Rocket Town.

Abilities/Powers: Aerith uses staves to fight. Most notably is the Umbrella/Parasol that is a bit of a gag weapon (sort of like Cloud’s Nail bat). However, she will be coming in with the Princess Guard, acquired at the Temple of the Ancients, and the Diamond Bangle, purchased in Bone Village. (These were the items that I had equipped on her before she left my party in my recent play thru.) While she isn’t the strongest member of the party physically, she makes up for it in her magical capabilities. She is what is commonly referred to in RPGs as a White Mage. Her Limit Breaks are more focused on healing/buffing/curing the party than really doing damage to the enemy.

Not only is she a powerful healer and caster, Aerith has the ability to speak to the planet. It is through her heritage as an Ancient/Cetra that she can connect to the sentience that is the planet to find out what she needs/has to do to help Cloud and the others on their journey to stop ShinRa and Sephiroth. In fact, despite the fact that Cloud can hear the planet, Aerith is really the only one who understands what’s being said, as evidence most during their trip in the Temple of the Ancients when they reach the pool in the room with rolling rocks.

Materia Slots:
- Diamond Bangle – 2 linked, 1 single
Restore Materia (2 stars) = All Materia (3 stars) – Cure, Cure2 and Regen

Sample Entry: Action spam thread

Sample Entry Two: When you die, your spirit joins the Lifestream, a collective of other souls of the departed that form to make up the way that Gaia replenishes itself. Plants, animals, humans all end up there when their time comes. Aerith, as the last of the Cetra, knew this instinctively as she felt the cold blade of Sephiroth's Masamune slice through vital organs, muscles, blood vessels and bone. It was something that she'd known for as long as she could remember, actually.

Her last thought before she allowed her consciousness to rest was that she hoped Cloud and the others wouldn't miss her too much and that she made it in time to save them from Sephiroth's evil plans. And then, she closed her eyes and rested.

Only to be rudely awakened when air was forcibly expelled from her lungs and her eyes flew open as she gasped for breath. She could hear the gentle clank-clank as the train continued down its track to whatever destination it was programmed for. She'd never really had much chance to ride the trains around Midgar, though she'd lived there for many years before Cloud fell through the roof of her church in the Sector 5 Slums and changed her life forever. It was kinda soothing, to be honest, almost like the sound of waves against the ocean, like when the party had gone to Wutai and camped outside on the way back to the Tiny Bronco.

Without thinking, her hands slid down to where she vaguely remembered the sword sticking through her and blinked at the hole in her dress's front. There was literally no way that she could fix that while she was on the train. She had nothing with her but her staff. Hopefully, whatever city she ended up in would have the basics and she could either purchase new clothes or get some needle and thread to patch up her current outfit.

Aerith looked out of the window to distract herself from why she had to repair this dress, but everything was surrounded in an unnaturally dense fog. Just as she was about to stand up from her seat, the train stopped, making her stagger a bit before she was compelled to leave the car she was on. Just as she turned around to look at her recent mode of transport, it dashed off with amazing alacrity, making it obvious that she was the only passenger compelled to depart.

Since it looked like she wasn't going to get anywhere standing around, she walked over to the large announcement board to look at the notices, seeing offers for places to live for newcomers, advertisements for establishments in the city, a map, and a few other things that she quickly ignored. She took a step forward, but a heavy weight in her pockets made her stop. When she pulled her hand back out, she was holding what appeared to be a pocket watch with many buttons. Unsure of what to do with it, she puts it back into her pocket to play with later—when she's over her initial shock of BEING ALIVE AGAIN.

With a tentative step, Aerith left the train platform and walked into the city proper, heading towards the Cathedral, since the map said it wasn't that far behind. Maybe there she could find some answers. Or at one of the many establishments in the city. Forgotten was the hole in her dress or the fact that she couldn't feel or hear the Planet. Everything was new and confusing as she made her way through Ruby City.

Re: Leo Valdez | Heroes of Olympus | Reserved

[personal profile] morsecodes 2013-10-30 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
When you first meet Leo, the first thing you take in is his carefree attitude. He seems to care about having a good time, having a laugh, and backing out when things get tough. But really, this is only the surface of Leo Valdez, brought on as a coping mechanism for his life.

See, Leo's mom died when he was young. He blames himself for her death, because he lost control of his fire powers and the warehouse they were in burnt down. His resistance from fire protected him, but she didn't make it. The rest of Leo's family didn't want anything to do with him, thanks to his Aunt Rosa. She called him a diablo and turned the rest of his family against him. Because of her, he was thrown into the foster system and eventually began a cycle of running away from homes. He found running from his past made it easier to deal with. Running got him away from the pain. The jokester attitude appeared as another way to hide the pain, but also as he learned to handle himself around others. As he put it, "if you cracked jokes and pretended you weren't scared, you usually didn't get beat up. Even the baddest gangster kids would tolerate you, keep you around for laughs." It wasn't until he found Camp-Half Blood and was accepted in, even with his power over fire, that he realized he didn't want to run anymore.

But Leo gets scared. Ghosts and dying were two big things that unnerve the kid, even though he hides it fast, especially by cracking jokes. He does this on many occasions, or really, throughout the books. Though Leo acted excited to be at camp for the first time, he got a little freaked out when he learned his bunk in Cabin 9 belonged to a previous dead counselor. When he volunteered to go on the quest with Jason, he questioned his own sanity for signing up for what would probably be his death. He acted all high and mighty, but in reality, he was scared out of his mind. And that's just two examples. The thing about Leo, though, is that even when he's scared out of his mind, he knows what he needs to do and he'll do it, especially when it means protecting his friends.

However scared he gets, Leo is extremely loyal to those he cares about. He still takes the blame for his mother's death, even though he was just trying to protect her from Gaea. And even after all this time, he's constantly thinking about her and what she taught him. As he grows closer with Jason and Piper, he does everything he can to protect them. When they were attacked by the cyclops, he could have easily turned and ran, but he stood and fought, even if he technically hid and put machines to work. He jumped into action again when they confronted Enceladus, taking out six Earthborn by himself, using the construction equipment to his advantage. Even when Khione tried to seduce him, he resisted, saying she would just throw him aside when she was done with him. He fought her, even when he had previously been all into her. His friends were more important than a pretty girl, and that was saying something, considering Leo's high affinity for girls. The same applies when he meets Frank, Hazel, and Percy. While they don't all get off on the right foot at first, Leo does everything he can to save them. When he got trapped with Hazel and Frank, Leo used his gift from Nemesis, knowing full and well the consequences. Nemesis had warned him by using it, he would have to sacrifice something important, but he didn't care. He had to save his friends. What he didn't expect was that to mean they would lose Percy and Annabeth in exchange. While the two falling in the Tartarus may have had nothing to do with him using the gift, he blamed himself, thinking he messed up, even though he saved Frank and Hazel. He even sacrificed some of Archimedes' spheres to save the two, which was really saying something for him, proving that even priceless machines weren't as important as friends were to him. In House of Hades, Hazel remarks that Leo seems more angry and focused on completing their mission of trying to get to the House of Hades to find Percy and Annabeth and close the Doors to Death. She told him multiple times that it wasn't his fault that the lost the two in the first place, but Leo didn't listen. He knew it was his fault and was determined to save them because of it.

The first time Leo is mentioned in the book, he's described as having "a mischievous smile that told you right away this guy should not be trusted around matches or sharp objects." Right away, you learn just how mischievous he is. Besides making a megaphone sound like Darth Vader, he doesn't actually pull any pranks during the book (but to be honest, a lot of serious stuff was going on). However, you do hear all about pranks he has pulled. He replaced whipped cream with shaving cream, he put tacos in people's socks and sleeping bags, made up inappropriate lyrics to songs, and more. Instead of pranks, he is the life of the party on the Argo II. Leo's quick to making a joke, even at the expense of others. He's not usually mean in his jokes, but he can push the limit, without always meaning to. After Leo gets back from Ogygia, Jason remarks at how Leo was what kept things light in there group. When anything gets too serious, Leo was always there to throw in or add some stupid comment and make everyone laugh and lighten things up.

He is capable of being serious, even if it's not very common. While he loves a good prank or joke, when he was put in charge of building the Argo II, he put that all aside. Not only did he have a lot of pressure on him to build the ship and have it ready by a certain time, he actually...cared. The Argo II was the first project he had worked on that he put his heart and soul into. He wanted it to be perfect. As he put it, it was his masterpiece. That isn't to say he lost his sense of humor, because it was still there, it just was much less prominent until the ship was finished. (And he then proceeded to insist they should paint a huge smiley face on the bottom of the hull with the word "WHAZZUP," not to mention the fact that his ship was controlled with a Wii remote and a sound board). His focus and seriousness came back into play after Percy and Annabeth fell into the Tartarus. Since he blamed himself, joking about getting them back didn't happen. His goal was to make it to the House of Hades and rescue his friends. After returning from Ogygia, he was very somber again, too, but this time, from a broken heart.

Often, Leo acts cocky and obnoxious, but it's just a show, almost like his joking habit is. In reality, he doesn't think all that highly of himself. He thinks he's lame, unlucky, ugly, and has no chance of having a girl ever like him. He gets jealous easily, even with his best friends. When under the spell of Medea, he even voices some of this. He goes on about how Jason is always the star, while he's always taken for granted. Even when Jason and Piper appear to be having feelings for each other, Leo gets jealous - but not because he likes Piper. He doesn't like feeling left out, like a third wheel. He's happy for his friends, and he wants them to be happy, but he also wants to feel needed. And when he is needed, he's always surprised, even if he doesn't doubt his abilities. His feelings only get worse when the seven demigods embark on their journey on the Argo II, where Leo was the seventh wheel. He felt like he was the outsider, like he wouldn't ever really belong. It didn't help, either, that the goddess Nemesis used those exact words about him. To make matters even worse, most of the crew was mad at him for attacking New Rome, even though he was possessed when he did it. When Leo finds himself on Ogygia, he meets Calypso, who...isn't exactly happy to have him there. Leo's mind immediately went to the worst and he just knew that if it was Jason that had ended up there, Calypso would have fallen in love immediately. But for him? He wasn't surprised she hated him.

Out of all the crew on the Argo II, Leo and Frank take the longest to get along, mostly due to the fact that Frank was afraid Hazel and Leo would start liking each other. See, Hazel had a thing for Leo's great-grandfather (LONG STORY), so Frank was worried she would dump him for Leo. Hazel had to step in on multiple occasions to stop the two from arguing, and even argued with Frank a couple of times. Leo ragged on Frank because he was intimidated by the male, not realizing Frank was just as afraid of him, if not more, because of his fire power. It's when Leo gets back from Ogygia that they really become okay with each other. Knowing Frank's life is tied to an easily burning stick, Leo brings Frank a fireproof bag. Leo didn't have to do this, but he was looking out for a friend, even if they weren't exactly close.

Leo can't sit still. He's one that needs to be constantly doing something. Annabeth commented once that, even by demigod standards, Leo was very ADHD. If there's a pause in action-- and sometimes even when something is going on, he has a habit of fiddling with things. Gears, knuts and bolts, and other mechanical related objects tend to be what he goes for, but when those are available, he'll go for what he can get, such as pipe cleaners. And if he can't get his hands on anything? Then he'll just keeping moving. He'll drum his fingers on things, fiddle with his clothes, you name it. He just can't be still. When he does have something to work with, he doesn't even think about it. Believe it or not, more often than not, he doesn't have to think about it. Machines comes so naturally to him, he can fix them without consciously thinking it through. While he does know what he's doing, he doesn't have to sit there and think every little process through. He just knows what to do.

Leo's got a severe problem when it comes to girls. See, whenever he sees a girl, and not just any girl, one that is completely out of his league, he falls madly in love with them. Granted, yes, he admits being able to fall for any girl, it's those special ones that don't pay him a lick of attention that he falls the hardest for. One such example was with Thalia, Jason's older and immortal sister. She is one of Artemis' Hunters, meaning she made a pact never to love a man, yet the moment Leo saw her, he was head over heels in love. He even tried flirting with her, and when she shot him down, all he did was insist she was just in denial, or that she was just hiding her true feelings. It was the same with Khione, the goddess of snow. He even commented that the water Naiads were worth drowning for. He does know where to draw the line, though. When he meets Hazel, yeah, he thinks she cute and nice, but he knew Hazel and Frank were together. He knew not to mess that up, even though he wasn't even sure what he felt towards her. It was after his trip to Ogygia and meeting Calypso that Leo really makes a turn around. At first, he didn't like Calypso. She reminded him of a mean, popular girl that just wanted to make his life miserable. But he also thought she was beautiful. After days of being around her, though, while he still acted like he didn't care for her, his heart got the best of him. He fixes things around her garden without her ever asking, and was even daydreaming plans and ideas on what they could do together once they both left the island. Naturally, Leo was forced to leave the island without her, but he swore on the River Styx he'd come back for her, even knowing the vow could mean his death. When he gets back to the Argo II, he's heartbroken to be away from her, having fallen hard and fast. But it also brought things to a close with Hazel. He knew where he feelings lied and there was no reason to make things awkward around her anymore.

Another thing about Leo is that he gets along better with machines than 'organic life forms,' something he gets from his dad. Since his dad is Hephaestus, the god of the forge, it only makes sense that Leo has a knack for machines, but it comes to the point that sometimes he would rather spend his time with those machines and not his friends. Frank commented that Leo cared more about his ship than his friends, and Leo couldn't deny it. He cared about his friends, yeah, but it was different. He even makes a bond with a metal dragon he fixes, which he affectionately names Festus, and considers it to become one of his best friends. It practically destroys him when Festus is blown up, to the point where he actually cries. He begs his father to allow him to at least reuse the dragon, and Hephaestus transports the dragon's head back to Camp Half-Blood, where Leo heanimates the dragon's head and uses it as the masthead for the Argo II. He grows attached to a three-legged table named Buford, as well, and is pretty distraught when the table runs away on him at one point in time. At the end of Mark of Athena, Leo gets a fancy new toy to add to his collection: an Archimedes sphere. By House of Hades, he had the sphere downloaded into the Argo II and was going nuts using it to upgrade the weapons around the ship. When he fell onto Ogygia, he first went into a panic mode because he was afraid he broke the sphere, but it ended up that it was safe. He even chased after two monkey dwarfs, as he called them, using his own wits and knack for making explosives and things of the sort to get it back. Another thing he took up was sleeping in the engine room floor, opting to be around the purring machines than sleep on a bed just because the machines made him feel safe.

Abilities/Powers:
Like with most halfbloods, Leo comes with major ADHD and dyslexia. In reality, the ADHD is a built in fighting mechanism. It allows him to analyze and respond in battle quickly, but it's been stated that even by demigod standards, Leo is extremely ADHD. The dyslexia is his brain being hardwired to read Ancient Greek and Latin rather than other languages, though he's never been overly good at this.

Being the son of Hephaestus, the god of blacksmiths and fire, he has a keen ability for working with machines. There isn't much he can't fix if he knows what to do, and sometimes, even when he doesn't know what he's doing, he can make things subconsciously. His most major accomplishments include fixing a rabid metal dragon and giving it wings, and building the Argo II - a giant flying Greek battle ship, and inventing a holographic scroll. He can also 'sense' traps, and is able to find them and disarm them when no one else can even see them. Along with this, on some occasions, he can will machines to work for him, such as a time where he willing an old, rusted hinge to open for him. He can also get a full comprehension of a machine just by touch, allowing him to know and understand how to work them.

As for fire, he inherited the ability of pyrokinesis. Not only is he resistant to fire, only feeling a slight tingling when touching the element, he is able to control it and make it do his will, to the point that his whole body will be in flames and the surrounding area will heat up. This happens sometimes on accident. When he gets overly emotional (like when he's really angry, and when he's really excited), his body heats up and flames will appear, and he won't even notice. He can also sense fire and heat that is around him, the same way he can with traps. If he focuses really hard, he can also prevent his clothes from burning, but most of the time, he can't avoid that problem. Unless he's wearing the fireproof clothes Calypso made for him, which he will be on arrival.

Besides abilities he gained from his father and by being a halfblood, Leo is able to speak both English and Spanish fluently and has been known to switch between the two without realizing it. When he was young, his mother taught him Morse Code and he also learned what he called "Creak and Squeak", meaning he learned to understand Festus the automaton dragon.

Items/Weapons:
Leo will only be bringing in two items.

→ His magical toolbelt: What looks like an ordinary toolbelt is actually a bit more. From this toolbelt, he is able to pull from a wide variety of tools and small supplies, most of which would be easily found in a workshop. Where they come from, he's never known, but all he has to do is think of what he wants and it appears in the toolbelt. Leo's been able to pull out others things, too, such as food, pots and pans (he's shown the ability to cook!), medical supplies, and even breathmints, but for the sake of this game, he won't be. Nothing overly big or magical can be summoned through it, and when he does pull something out it of, it takes time for it to "cool down," so he's unable to use it again right away. The bigger the object, the longer it takes it "cool down."

→ The last Archimedes sphere: A golden sphere built up of seven rings, each consisting of Greek letters, numbers, and zodiac symbols. This sphere has a wide range of purposes, most of which Leo just has to think about to activate. Some of the known uses are: an ancient version of a taser, a circular saw, helicopter-like blades and flight, a 3D hologram projection, a smoke bomb when filled with chemical power, and even a motor to run other machines.

Sample Entry: Link to a sample thread!
Sample Entry Two: An oath to keep with a final breath... The words plague Leo's mind, as he thought back to his last moments on Ogygia. He thought about sailing away from the island, how it looked as it got smaller and smaller, the kiss...

But more than anything, he thought about his promise. He thought about how he swore on the River Styx that he would return to an island that was supposed to be impossible to return to.

With a long sigh, Leo shook his head, trying to dispel his mind full of thoughts. He thought being in the engine room would help, but it wasn't. Usually he could get lose himself in the sounds and hums of the machines, but tonight, it did no good. He couldn't sleep. He couldn't stop thinking about her, alone on that island. He couldn't stop thinking about her long, golden brown hair, or how beautiful she looked in red.

He missed her, so much. So much that it physically hurt when he thought about her. And he couldn't stop thinking about her. Even though he hadn't been on her island all that long, it felt like he had known her forever.

'Once we stop Gaea, I mean it. I'm coming back for you, Calypso.' He found himself thinking, even though the consequences rang through his mind. But he didn't care. He had lost so much in the past already, he couldn't sit by and let the girl of his dreams get away, either. Even if...even if Calypso didn't want to be with him, he didn't care. He couldn't do that to her. She deserved better. He didn't know how or what he would, but he would keep his promise to her, even if it did take his last breath to ensure it happened.

Spoilers for House of Hades in comments!

Personality:

Like any other demigod, Nico isn't like any other teenage kid. Being the son of Hades alone would be enough to single anyone out, but even by demigod standards he's strange. He's described by Percy as having an "intense, manic fire [in his eyes] that made you suspect that he was either a genius or a madman." He's also noted as having an aura of death; horses don't like him, other campers don't care for him because of the mere fact that he's the son of Hades. He even has the fatal flaw all Hades children have: carrying grudges. This is all thanks to having Hades as a father. So yes, Nico is abnormal even by half-blood standards.

If Annabeth's mother was Athena, the goddess of wisdom, then why didn't
Annabeth know better than to fall off a cliff? (I tried not to strangle Nico for
asking this one.) Was Annabeth my girlfriend? (At this point, I was ready to
stick this kid in a meat-flavored sack and throw him to the wolves.)

-- The Titan's Curse, Percy's pov.

Believe it or not, when Percy first met him, he was an innocent ten-year-old. He obsessively played a game called Mythomagic, and went so far as to memorize the stats of every god card he had. So when he learned that the gods were real, and that he was a half-blood himself, he was ecstatic about the idea. He had a million questions for Percy, and when they were faced with a game at camp, he was excited to start and asked if he would be able to kill people. Even though he witnessed a fight and watched Annabeth fall over a ledge, it's likely that he still didn't understand what sort of trouble he had inherited. At the time, he didn't know of his parentage, though just being a demigod alone was enough to be serious. He got swept up in the moment, excited to be part of the world he had only known through cards.

Bianca was -- and still is -- a big part of his life. She was all he had for a long time. He even tried to stand up to her to a monster when they were getting captured, and later on made Percy promise that he would keep her safe. Percy was hesitant in promising, seeing as how quests were dangerous, but Nico insisted. Finally, Percy gave in.

And...it didn't work out so well.

When Percy told Nico of Bianca's death, it took a few moments to get a reaction out of him. Percy notes that Nico took it quietly, but finally reminds him of his promise. It quickly escalates from there, and he screams at Percy to go away and he wishes that he was dead. He ran off then, and Percy didn't see or hear from him for a while.

Nico struggles with his anger for a while about Bianca's death. He tries anything to bring her back, even summoning the spirit of Minos to advise him on it. Though he's warned multiple times to stay away from him, and that he's going down a bad road, he keeps going down it anyway. All that mattered to him was getting her back, and any interaction he had with Percy afterwards resulted in a lot of yelling and stubborn attempts at trying to get himself out of trouble.

It takes a while, but he does manage to summon Bianca. She then tells him what the fatal flaw of all Hades children are -- to bear a grudge. She tells him not to fall prey to it, but it takes a long time for that to actually sink in. Actually, it takes getting saved by Percy one more time and fighting Minos to finally begin to move forward again. At the end of The Battle of the Labyrinth, he mentions to Percy that he was saying goodbye to Bianca's spirit for good.

Unfortunately, his obsession with his family doesn't stop there, no thanks to Hades. Since Nico's memories of his time before the Lotus Casino was erased, it gave his father a leverage to manipulate him into a position to capture Percy. He told Nico that if he brought Percy to him, he would tell him what happened. Surprise! Hades pulls the rug out from under Nico when he does what he's told, saying that he still won't tell him what happened, and tells him that Bianca would've done better. Eventually, he does find out what happened to his mother by other means. We don't know exactly what made Hades change his mind into going into the battle at Manhattan, but Nico's stubbornness did come into play with that. As much as his father wronged him, he recognized that he would need help if he wanted to help Percy. And he was successful.

In summary so far, Nico's done a pretty big 180 since the first time you see him in the book. He's colder, more withdrawn, and is eager to the point of being gullible to have any connection to his family. And he has his grudge with Percy to deal with also -- something that he eventually lets go of as well. All of this is molding him into the character that he is currently.

So, onwards!

By the Heroes of Olympus series, Nico's grown up a little bit. Initially when you see him, he's not quite as volatile of a character as in the Olympians series (this changes as of House of Hades, but can still be noted). He has come to grips a little bit more with the changes in his life and where he is, though I wouldn't say he was happy about it. Bianca is still dead, he is an outcast, and his relationship with Hades is uncertain. It's not a great life, but he's accepted it.

However, he did try to bring Bianca back one more time. When the dead weren't staying...well, dead, Nico decided this would be an opportune moment to try one more time to bring Bianca back. However, he learned that she was reborn and found Hazel instead. Instead of leaving her there, he brings her with him back into the realm of the living. Though he does accidentally try to call her Bianca, he does care about Hazel. While she's still having flashbacks of her life before she died, he showed concern for her. In House of Hades, it's observed that she might even be the only person that Nico really does love. At least, she's the only person that he does love in a family-sort of way.

"It hasn't been easy, you know. Having only the dead for company.
Knowing that I'll never be accepted by the living. Only the dead respect me,
and they only do it out of fear."
"You could be accepted." I said. "You could have friends at camp."
He stared at me. "Do you really believe that, Percy?"
-- The Battle of the Labyrinth

Generally, people are wary around Nico. To animals, he smells like the dead. To people (as described in the first paragraph), he has a creepy fire in his eyes and just radiates an aura that unnerves people. He points out to Percy that he doesn't belong anywhere anyway, after being invited to go back to Camp Half-Blood. At the time of The Battle of the Labyrinth, there wasn't even a Hades cabin. Children of Hades aren't really looked on as being a good thing; probably one of the least liked out of the Big Three. Frank doesn't seem to have any problem around Nico in Son of Neptune, but it's also stated that he's one of the few that doesn't seem unnerved. He doesn't show to be very affected of it -- maybe by the time it comes up he's just resigned to the fact. He doesn't stay at either camps, either, as he travels between the two and the Underworld.

He knows when to shut up, though. Though he was caught off guard when Percy first arrived in the Roman camp, he refused to let on that he knew him. As he told Hazel, there were other things at work that needed to work themselves out. He used this same reasoning for not telling either camp about each other; a fact that made him suspicious to Jason and Leo. But Nico was told not to indulge either camp on this fact, and he complied. It wouldn't be the first secret he kept to himself for his own reasons, and won't be the last. This secret-keeping makes him seem very unpredictable, and untrustworthy in some cases.

Unsurprisingly, Nico prefers to do things by himself. Even from The Battle of the Labyrinth, he didn't want Percy's help to get him out of trouble. And still, he believes he can do things by himself. He thought he could investigate the Tartarus, and maybe even close the Doors of Death by himself, but he only ended up getting himself in trouble. He admits that it was a mistake to go down there, and that he thought he could go anywhere in the Underworld. This is where his confidence in his powers turn cocky; he thought that he could do what his father and Thanatos couldn't. Needless to say, he got knocked down a few notches.

Despite all that's been said, Nico does have somewhat of a strange sense of humor. To reflect on how his own personality had changed, his humor has turned dark and a little twisted as well. He's more prone to making sarcastic remarks, and his smile is generally regarded as creepy. Though he does tend to cast these creepy smiles at what would kind of be called a bad time. For instance, when they seem to be getting into a more dangerous situation. A real smile seems to be few and far in between; for one, if he's around Hazel, and when they began to win the battle in House of Hades.

In a social setting, he's very quiet, and easily forgotten about until he speaks up (Jason mentioned that they needed to get a bell for Nico to remember he was still there). He's not exactly the most social person, but it's still an achievement where he is pre-Mark of Athena compared to mostly being with the dead in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. He had an agenda in being away from the Underworld, sure, but he wasn't so withdrawn as he'd been previously.

That is, until House of Hades. By then, after his experience in Tartarus, he's described as being even more withdrawn and eating even less. He's a little more quick with his emotions as well; combined with walking around in Tartarus and making good on his promise with Percy to meet him at the Doors to Death, he's on edge. He also volunteered the most for the lookout position because he could "see the best" out of the group, however it was doubted it was more or less an excuse to be by himself.

Nico's reactions and feelings towards Percy are...well. Complicated. In the beginning of the original series, it evolved into thinking he's cool, to being hurt and angry to the point of turning him in to his father. Though by the end of it, Percy's earned his respect in a lot of ways. He tells Hazel when asked that he's dangerous to his enemies and powerful, but someone that can be trusted.

"I'm the son Hades, Jason. I might as well be
covered in blood or sewage, the way people treat me.
I don't belong anywhere. I'm not even from this
century.
But even that's not enough to set me apart. I've got to be--to be--"

-- House of Hades

However, after an encounter with Cupid himself, it's revealed that Nico actually had a crush on Percy. "Had", said by Nico himself, though he does start acting strangely after the encounter. He becomes even more irritable than he already had been, and shuts out Jason completely when he tries to talk to him about it. He tells Jason that there's no way that he could understand his feelings, he didn't ask for them, and that it's just another thing that sets him apart from the rest of the demigods. Just another reason to be an outcast. Even though Jason promises not to tell the others in the group, it doesn't seem like Nico trusts him much as it's noted that he's on guard around him afterwards. If it's possible, he actually gets more on edge after the encounter with Cupid. The others don't really understand what happened, and of course Nico doesn't explain. But it's obvious that something happened.

When they do save Percy at the Doors of Death, Hazel notices that Nico looks pained as he watches Percy and Annabeth -- and even questions if he'd been crying. Though instead of spending time with Percy after his near-death experience, he pushes both him and Annabeth away even farther. He treats Percy coldly; almost as if he had reverted to his younger self, in a way. However, he doesn't meet Annabeth's eyes either, which is a little more unusual. When it was brought up that someone needed to travel with Reyna, Coach Hedge, and Athena's statue, he jumped too quickly into it. He was eager to run away from the situation, which was something he was used to doing. He had told Jason back after he had found out about Nico's secret that he was going to leave "forever" anyway -- and the opportunity came up almost immediately after saving Percy. Nico had fulfilled his promise to Percy to meet them at the Doors of Death, and now it was time for him to leave.

Abilities/Powers:

  • One thing that Nico does have in common with other demigods is his keen reflexes. It's what makes them "ADHD" in the series -- it's really that their minds are fine tuned for fighting. Without his powers, he has honed in these skills as well. Most of the time, he has his Stygian Sword at his side, which he knows how to use proficiently.

  • He can speak Italian and Greek.

  • Nico can control earth, using that as a weapon as well as merely opening the ground beneath an opponent and making them fall straight to the Underworld.

  • He can also control, summon, and speak to the dead. He can summon just a handful of the dead, to a small army. These powers also are in tune with his mood, as when he's feeling emotionally unstable he has made bones nearby start rattling as if they were trying to come back to life.

  • Nico can sense when people die, and he was able to sense when Percy and Annabeth were nearing the Doors of Death.

  • More than once, Nico has just suddenly seemingly appeared out of the shadows. He can use them to camouflage himself, as well as travel distances in them as a way of transporting himself.

  • Nico can put himself into a "mostly dead" state with the help of some of Persephone's pomegranate seeds. He needs nothing more than these seeds to put him into this death trance, and he won't need anything else, not even air. When he was kept in a jar in Mark of Athena, that's how he stayed alive...ish.

  • Items/Weapons:

  • Stygian Sword
  • Diocletians scepter
  • other half of his pomegranate...?

  • Sample Entry: thread!
    Sample Entry Two:

Even while shadow traveling the others, with how tired it made him, he couldn't sleep more than a few hours at a time. At first it was met with protests, but it seemed to make no difference one way or another. So sometimes, he kept watch while the others slept.

He sat a little distance away from the Athena Parthenos, senses heightened and nerves strained. At the very least, he was away from the others. There was no Percy, no Annabeth, no Jason to try to talk to him about things. All different things, of course, and all things he didn't want to deal with. Nico was very aware he was running from the situation, but that wasn't anything unusual, wasn't it? It's not like anyone could ever really understand him, anyway.

And if he got what he wanted, he wouldn't face them again. It didn't stop him from thinking about what Jason might say to the others, though. Would he stay quiet about it? Or if he didn't...what would Percy think?

The air seemed to grow darker around him at the thought. As if it were a habit, he started moving his skull ring around on his finger. Yes, it was necessary to stay away now. After he delivered Reyna, Coach Hedge, and the Parthenos to Camp Half-Blood, he was done for good. He had no doubt that Percy and the others could defeat Gaea, and could handle the rest.

He was going to go back to the shadows and the dead, where he belonged.

Leia Rolando | Tales of Xillia | Reserved

    [personal profile] itemsteal 2013-11-03 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
    Personality:
If there was only one word that could be used to sum up Leia Rolando, it would be following: Effort.

Effort is one of the things that seems to shape every aspect of her personality in ways that may not always be explicitly obvious. There’s nothing that she does halfheartedly; whether it’s helping at her family’s lodge, at the Mathis clinic, or fighting in battle, she gives it her all. It takes her some time to learn that her all may not always be enough, but it never stops her from putting it forth. Because of this, her energy is seemingly boundless — the world can’t get Leia Rolando down, even in the most bleak of situation. She’ll always seek out that glimmer of light in the clouds and try to find her way, a positive way.

That isn’t to say she doesn’t recognize her own flaws and limitations, though. Understanding that effort isn’t enough sometimes causes her confidence to falter. She worries that she’s not good enough, that she holds her friends back — that her wants and needs may be more petty than the bigger picture at hand. It’s the sort of struggle that isn’t easily solved, even when she knows better. But she works on it, day by day, to try and improve and find her place in the world. When she realizes the pursuits she was making were less for her own sake and more for the sake of someone else, she took that flaw and crushed it. She found a goal of her own, something worth bettering herself for without the burden of trying to live up to an unrealistic expectation.. both for others towards her, and the way she views herself.

When it comes to other characters, it seems that Leia plays a specific type of role with most of them. She treats Elize as a younger sister, Milla as an older one. She admires Rowen’s almost parental aspects and wisdom, and respects his power. With Alvin, much of their relationship is based in a deeply rooted friendship; even when she isn’t sure if she should trust him, she gives him the benefit of the doubt. She gives Alvin goofy nicknames — and even after he did something unspeakable to her, she found it in her heart to forgive him, and eventually mended their friendship to a point that was close to where it originated. It took her quite a while, and they barely spoke in the time before it, but she does cave eventually, because she can tell that Alvin’s efforts were genuine. And for Leia, that’s the sort of thing that mattered most. The most special case is Jude; he’s precious to Leia, even though she takes the tsundere route at times and tries to play her feelings off, they run deep. She spent a long time working for his sake, doing things to make sure he kept smiling, even in the darkest of times. When it came to Agria, things were tragic — even when Agria constantly berated Leia and gave her reason to question her own efforts, she didn’t let it stop her. Right until the end, she reached out for Agria’s hand to try and save her and make amends. She wanted to prove that she was better than Agria gave her credit for, and that she couldn’t easily be deterred, even when it would have been easier to walk away. In some ways, that loss was one that affected her just as deeply as the loss of Milla; perhaps more so because of its finality.

But part of Leia’s effort also meaning knowing and respecting the boundaries of others. Even though her feelings for Jude run deep, and she expressed jealousy (or envy) on more than one occasion as she realized Jude’s feelings for Milla, she never let it hinder her. She still respects the both of them deeply, and she understands that there is something between those two she can’t compete with. She doesn’t treat it like giving up, though, or being defeated. Even when all is said and done, she looks out for Jude and treats him the same as she always has… albeit a bit more maturely, as they all grow up quite a bit over the course of the story.

Leia can also be very clumsy, both in actions and words. Despite being quite skilled on the battlefield, she’s known for tripping while carrying food (if the destroyed meals for Jude’s birthday for consecutive years is any indication). It’s something she works on and improves, but she falters in that regard. And just as she can in action, her words can be clumsy. Not always thinking before she speaks, Leia can sometimes blurt out the wrong things — or just be plain disrespectful. She wasn’t afraid to voice her thoughts to Gaius, Auj Oule’s king, a well-respected and intimidating man in his own right. She had to be told, scolded even, to mind her words by Jude, prompting Leia to remember just who is was she was speaking to.

So she’s not always the most tactful, and she does have a temper on her. She can be absent minded, and she’s not the smartest. She plain out doesn’t remember things taught to her in school that didn’t pertain to her interest (a point that comes up a couple of times with regards to important events in Rieze Maxia’s history), though she does state she was class president, which is just a testament to her determination to try hard and prove herself at the things she does. Of the group, she’s the most genuinely casual about things (which is seemingly why she gets along well with Alvin), as not many people would compare a king and his tactician to “catty schoolgirls” with the ease Leia does.

By the end of the first game, she grows up a bit. By the start of the second game, she’s grown a lot. A full year to really learn things and experience the world outside Leronde — as well as Rieze Maxia does her a world of good. Deciding to become a journalist and succeed on her own path, she takes the step to move to Elympios, and itself, that’s a bold move.

She knows, and very quickly learns that there is a lot of prejudice with the two worlds; those from Rieze Maxia are looked at as inferior and monstrous, due to their differences in cultures and technologies, especially due to the use of spirit artes. But despite this — and despite falling victim to this, Leia doesn’t let it get her down. She settles into her apartment and makes a new life, she learns and adapts to the technologies of Elympios (trains, cell phones, TVs; essentially what we have in our modern world) and tries to use it to her advantage for the sake of bettering herself and her work.

And that’s all effort. Every last bit of what Leia does — from how she thinks to how she approaches things, all boils down to making an effort and never letting the world get her down. There are many events over the course of the first game and the novel that shape her into the person she becomes, and is only further given the opportunity to grow as her journey continues into the second game.

    Abilities/Powers:
One of Leia’s best attributes is that she’s not only a skilled physical fighter, but that she had a variety of other strong artes, as well as support artes to get her through in a battle.

Her fighting style is much like that of a martial artist, trained by her highly-skilled (and highly-feared) mother. She uses a bo staff as her weapon, and with that, she’s very adept. One of her primary abilities is known as “elongating staff,” which gives her staff a greater area of effect when she dodges attacks. She’s adept at in-battle theft, as well — if her opponent is knocked down, she’s able to use the “item steal” ability.

Much like many of the other characters in Tales of Xillia, Leia’s also adept at various types of artes — including spirit artes, which allows her to draw power from spirits to perform attacks. While some of her attacks are physical, she also has a variety of recovery and healing artes, making her capable of very good support, as well. Here is a full list of artes she can perform, including a variety of special attacks that can be performed only when her lilium/arrowcell orb is linked to another party member’s.

Sample Entry: meme thread; dear mun post; test drive

    Sample Entry Two:
It had been a couple of months since Leia had moved to Elympios, but every day still felt like a learning experience to her. The culture shock had been massive upon her first visit to Trigleph, but the group had been so caught up in the pressing matters that she hadn’t had the time to really experience it. Even after a couple of visits, just getting settled into her apartment had been nothing short of a disastrous debacle. Months of work, running around trying to get a scoop; to find a story that would impress her editors and really give her a chance to shine meant she really hadn’t taken the time to take everything in, still. She knew where places were, and she didn’t get lost on her tasks, but that was about all.

So on a night she had to herself, Leia decided to get personally acquainted with the city. No work, no friends to distract her. Trigleph was nothing like Leronde, not in any way. It was a small port town that was imbued with nature, nothing like the sprawling, metallic cityscape of Trigleph.

There were no stars, not of the nighttime variety, nor of the Fennmont night-clime variety. But there were lights that sparkled from the skyscrapers, and in that regard, it was really beautiful.

“It really isn’t bad at night… Even if there is still something strange about it.” The daytime, it seemed desolate. Even though there were people everywhere, there wasn’t any interaction; everyone went about their business without speaking to those around them. Some were texting or talking on their GHS, others just set on their next destination. Nature — well, there were some trees linking the path to the train station, but it was nothing compared to the vast forests outside of Leronde. Still, Leia found herself marveling at the sight. A smile appeared on her lips as she came upon the swingset outside her apartment building. She took a seat, swinging lightly back and forth as she watched the lights.

“Even though people are really alike in a lot of ways, we’re so different. Rieze Maxia and Elympios…” She trailed off, unsure of how to finish that thought. She wanted them to unite, so coexist without prejudice. It was hard, even as she did all she could to blend in. But… that was why she was here, right? “I really hope I can be a part of that change. That’s what Milla wanted, right? So… I have to. I’ll make it happen, somehow!”

From where she sat, she pumped a fist in the air — she would give it her all to be part of the change their worlds needed.

    Character Name: Prince Reyson
Canon: Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance + Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Canon Point: Post canon, after Radiant Dawn.
    Background/History: Wiki!

    Personality:
Reyson's personality is somewhat complicated; he's not at all what he appears to be. For all intents and purposes, he appears outwardly feminine, soft-spoken and innocent, but in reality he is anything but. Reyson is a 'heron', a member of a race of bird-type people ( all of the bird, dragon, wolf, and cat-type people in Fire Emblem 9/10 are collectively known as 'laguz' ); herons are known to be gentle and kind, to be always soft and sweet and eloquent, however Reyson is cut from a somewhat different cloth. Due to a very tragic event in his past, Reyson's home and clan were wiped out, and he was forced to flee to the lands of the hawk laguz. The hawks were good, strong folk, but their rugged toughness no-doubt influenced Reyson's personality. He still speaks very smoothly (a royal influence, no doubt), but he's very stubborn and extremely willful, and he's not at all afraid to lash out, be it with tongue or fist.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. Reyson was born in Serenes forest, the home of the heron clan, on the continent of Tellius, where two races - beorc (human) and laguz - coexist in unsteady peace. He was taught the ways of balance, given a prince's pampered life, and raised beside several sisters and brothers. His life was full of love and peace; he and his family knew no pain or torment. The herons were close with the raven clan of Kilvas, and Reyson was a close childhood friend of Naesala - a raven prince, who later became king of Kilvas. Knowing no sorrow or hardship, Reyson lived a charmed life.

However, all this changed with the Serenes massacre. Their forest home bordered the great and powerful Theocracy of Begnion, whose people (beorc) were ruled by the beloved Apostle - an influential female figure who spoke with the Goddess to guide her people. When the Apostle was suddenly, violently assassinated, the people of Begnion were blinded with rage and consumed by despair. A rumor began circulating that the herons were responsible for the assassination of their most beloved empress. Anyone who knew anything at all about herons would know that this was not at all possible - the herons were a calm, pacifistic clan, devoted only to piety and peace, and physically incapable of violence. However, the people of Begnion despaired and hungered for retribution, and the herons, 'sub-human' as they were, were the easiest targets. Framed for the death of the Apostle, the herons were martyred by the mobs of Begnion, destroyed in the dead of night, slaughtered like livestock while their forest burned.

As the only survivors, and with their forest home burned and dead, Reyson and his father Loraziah are forced to give up their country and accept assistance from the hawks of Phoenicis. Their king, Tibarn, is enraged by the massacre of their laguz brothers, and is more than happy to care for the two herons, the last ragged remnants of House Serenes. So, of course, it was from these people - the rough-edged, toughly built hawks - that Reyson inherited several of his more .. difficult character traits. His temper is quick, he is fiercely protective of those he cares for, and there is no shattering his iron will.

Herons, however, are very delicately built. Their bones are fragile, and although Reyson possesses a fiery temper, he isn't often able to physically harm others. When he was captured as a slave, during the events of Path of Radiance, he became enraged enough to punch his captor in the face. The simple strike was enough to shatter several bones in his hand, but the pain is clearly nothing in the face of his fury and disgust.

During the events of Path of Radiance, Reyson changes a great deal. The slaughter of his family and countrymen had instilled in Reyson a fierce, almost unnatural hate for all beorc; his desire for vengeance is almost all-consuming, and even after twenty years recovery time, his blood still boils at any mention of a human. He does not associate with them at all, and is disgusted by those who do. It is this bias - and a few other things - that drives a wedge between Reyson and his once close-friend Naesala. When the raven prince ascended the throne to King, he had to do everything in his power to keep Kilvas together, and as Kilvas was ( and still is ) in near abject poverty, his work was cut out for him. Naesala changes, all of his priorities set to raising up Kilvas and earning money to nurture his country therefore he chooses to engage in commerce with humans to better fill the royal coffers. Repulsed by this, Reyson grows apart from his old friend, and no longer trusts him.

However, Naesala's betrayal sparks a chain of events. Twenty years prior to the game, many laguz were enslaved to beorcs; reviled and persecuted, they were referred to as sub-human and forced to work for humans - be it through hard labor or entertainment. Beautiful as the herons are ( and terribly rare, since the massacre ), many of Begnion's nobles and senators would pay extravagant amounts of money to acquire a heron slave. Though the slave trade was outlawed by Apostle Misaha two decades before, it still persists in many noble houses. When Oliver, Duke Tanas ( one of Naesala's employers ), catches a glimpse of Reyson during a visit to Kilvas, he becomes obsessed, and adamantly requests Naesala's help. Betraying their friendship, Naesala lures Reyson to Tanas's villa, and sells him for an obscene fee.

Absolutely infuriated, Reyson is able to escape when Ike( protagonist )'s mercenary band - under the employ of the current apostle - storm Oliver's home in search of evidence to prove Oliver's connection to the slave trade. Cursing Ike and his beorc companions, Reyson flees to the dead forest, where he is soon pursued - both by Oliver's men, and by Ike and his mercenaries, who seek to save and protect him. But Reyson is appalled and murderous. Warped by despair and thinking only of vengeance, Reyson steals away to the altar of Serenes, where he plans to sing a Galdr of destruction to utterly obliterate all beorc. Luckily, Tibarn arrives and intervenes, saving Reyson from making a grave mistake that would have warped his very existence as a heron, a being of peace and balance.

After agreeing to abandon this rather desperate ploy for vengeance, Reyson ( with Tibarn, Janaff and Ulki ), moves deeper into the forest to find Ike's merry band again, where they are busy fighting off Oliver's men. Reyson is shocked to learn that Ike and his companions came across another heron, Reyson's youngest sister Leanne, while they had been searching the forest. Leanne had been placed in a magical slumber since the massacre took place, and Reyson is immensely thankful to have found her again. Somewhat humbled by this, and incredibly appreciative to have his sister returned to him, Reyson reluctantly begins to abandon his prejudice towards beorc. To pay back this debt, he enlists in Ike's company and helps his army to conquer Daein ( the country playing antagonist ) and take back Crimea ( Ike's homeland ). Once Crimea is retaken and the game concludes, Reyson and his sister Leanne retire to Gallia - the land of feline laguz - to live in peace.

More than anything, Reyson wants to be strong. Throughout his twenty year stay with the hawks, he strives to grow stronger, to overcome his frail body and learn to fight. He's swallowed wholly by the despair of losing his entire family and clan, and for a long time, he can think only of vengeance, and more than anything he prays for a strong body, to be able to possess the raw power the hawks wield so that he may bring about the revenge he so strongly desires. Tibarn, the Hawk King, is someone that Reyson looks up to immensely.

By the end of Path of Radiance, however, Reyson realizes his worth, and is able to let go of a great deal of his bitterness and hatred. He is no longer obsessed with growing stronger ( or obliterating humans ), however he continues to display his iron will and quick temper -- two traits which are, by now, ingrained into his personality.

Overall, he is not a bad person, though he can be quite serious, and abrasive, depending on how he is approached. Generally speaking he is polite enough under most normal circumstances, but he is incredibly stubborn, and suspicious as well; unless you are a close friend, it can be difficult to pull the wool over his eyes (it doesn't help that he's able to read minds, and sense the good and evil in people's hearts). It can be difficult to befriend him, but once that bond is formed he is incredibly loyal, and will stop at nothing to assist and protect those he cares for.

Reyson also makes an appearance in the game's sequel, Radiant Dawn, though he is somewhat more minor than he was in Path of Radiance, and the bulk of his character development occurs in the previous game. He fights alongside Ike's mercenaries again to overthrow the empire of Begnion which, torn by civil war and political intrigue, was waging open war with all of the laguz, and he learns, to his surprise and elation, that his eldest brother Rafiel still lives. As he did previously, Reyson joins Ike's army in battle and assists them with his galdrar, but little more insight is given into his character. He is a bit more calm, a bit more mature, and a bit more collected through the course of Radiant Dawn, though he continues to retain his quick temper and sharp tongue. When war sweeps up the entire continent of Tellius, the goddess Ashera awakens and delivers her judgment upon the world, turning all those in Tellius to stone, save for those chosen by her sister, the goddess Yune. Reyson is included in this favored group, and he continues on in his mission, traveling beside Tibarn to reach the tower of the goddess where Ashera resides, building her strength to finish them for good. They swarm the tower and cut down their enemies one by one and, with Yune's help, overthrow the goddess Ashera and return Tellius to its former glory.
