Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:
Canon Characters:
Sample Application (Faith Lehane)

.. whoops, I forgot all about that. Alrighty, sorry, here you go! I hope these are better!

First person: Link here!

Third Person:

Reyson felt it before he heard it - an imbalance in the winds, the fury and pain, the hawks sent a ripple out before them that reached Serenes before they did. He had no idea what it was, what it could have meant, but it had him rising from his seat to move to the balcony, his eyes lifted to the sky, searching for any sign of trouble, any clue as to what this feeling could mean, this coldness like dread building in his belly..

Bright, serene blue, clear as crystal, the warm sun filtered softly through the gently swaying boughs. Nothing strange. Nothing amiss. But something was wrong. Something was off. Reyson had been through enough battles to know the burning feel of the chaos, to recognize it for what it was - but what could it have meant? Surely it must have been nothing, his senses playing tricks on him; these ten years had been difficult, but peaceful, and very little had stood to interrupt that. He was only paranoid, wasn't he? Leanne always said he worried too much. Still, he swallowed thickly, feeling twitchy because Tibarn was not there.

Until he was.

There, and shouting, and bloody, landing hard in the courtyard, and beside him the rest of the hunting troop gathered, broken, battered, bloody, as if they had been assaulted, attacked. A sick feeling gripped Reyson's stomach. But without so much as a moment's hesitation he leapt from the balcony, all fury in white, angry concern - who had done this? Who would hurt his people? The sharp look in his eyes promised that they would not get away with it.

"Tibarn!" he called, his bark is all but as strong as a hawk's, his white hands reaching to grasp at Tibarn's arms, his wrists, his green eyes hardened, flinty and focused to a sharpened edge. "What's happened?"

Character Name: Levi, heicho, Captain Levi, Corporal Levi
Canon: Shingeki no Kyojin
Canon Point: The current point, chapter 51.
Background/History: http://shingekinokyojin.wikia.com/wiki/Levi

Very little is actually known about where Levi comes from and why he joined the Survey Corps. We do know that it’s mentioned he was possibly a criminal in the underground before he joined, and Erwin has something to do with his joining.

Personality:

Although so little is known about Levi’s past, it seems clear that he has experienced a rough and even unkind existence. This could explain his aloof personality, as well as the fact that he’s daily engaged in working with soldiers in the Survey Corps who he knows often don’t survive for very long. The detached demeanor that he seems to pull off so naturally could be, at least in part, cultivated to protect himself and make hard decisions in the field, considering who lives and who dies, less difficult. However, it’s clear that Levi values human life. The most recent chapter in the manga made this obvious. After Hanji speculates that Titans are humans, or that at least humans can become Titans, his disparagement is pretty plain when he wonders if he’s just been killing people all this time by killing Titans. The loss of those under him in the Survey Corps weighs heavily on him, which shows that underneath the cool, demanding exterior, he’s at the very least sympathetic to the plight they are all in, if not outright compassionate. I doubt he’d have such loyalty from his subordinates otherwise.

Levi is an intense personality to meet right from the start, whether he’s being unapproachable and aloof, or bluntly showing his dislike for those in authority who he believes shouldn’t have it, such as the Military Police and upper-class people living in Wall Sina. This has to do with his involvement with the Survey Corps who risk themselves constantly and face the worst kinds of deaths. It could be speculation, but it could also do with his former past as a criminal.

This intensity also applies to other areas. Levi is undoubtedly a cleaning fiend to the point of obsession. One can’t help but wonder that it might stem from being so tightly wound otherwise; after all, cleaning is said to be a good way for people to relax, to get their mind off things, and to otherwise re-set. He’s very adamant that people keep things clean, to the point that his squad will worry if things are not impeccable.

Levi has shown unflinching loyalty to Commander Erwin and the Survey Corps time and time again. While he seems to resent being called ‘humanity’s strongest soldier’, he also shoulders the burden of it over and over. Despite his somewhat unpolished behavior, this shows that he, like Erwin, believes in a higher purpose and believes in what the Survey Corps is trying to do.. With Eren’s emphatic words that he wants to kill Titans, the light in Levi’s eyes certainly echoes the sentiment. He’s willing to believe in his subordinates and fellow-soldiers, giving them the opportunity to experience and grow under his command and, in turn, hopefully survive.

Abilities/Powers: http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20121029215702/shingekinokyojin/images/7/7f/Info_on_AoT_1.jpg

The soldiers in Shingeki no Kyojin rely on 3D Maneuver Gear to fight in three dimensions rather than two, due to the height of the Titans. This is a system of straps, steel wire and grappling hooks allows them to sail through the air carrying two bladed weapons. The steel wire is stored in a mechanism that is powered by gas, allowing for the steel wire to be recoiled. Typically, a soldier will hook onto an object with the grappling hook, then power the mechanism to reel themselves towards it, moving at very fast speeds.

Levi is the strongest soldier of the Survey Corps. He is the best at using and fighting with the 3D gear. He’s incredibly fast and agile in the air, and beyond accurate with his blades. As all soldiers, we can assume that Levi would have been trained in hand to hand combat as well, and doesn’t just spend his time kicking stupid newbies in the face while they are helpless.

Levi does demonstrate a ruthlessness that usually serves a purpose, whether it’s to kill a Titan or help the Survey Corps in any way. While he’s small in stature, his adeptness with the 3D gear means he must have significant physical strength.

Items/Weapons: Even though he’s been recovering from an injury, I’d like him to arrive with his 3D gear and his Survey Corps uniform. The 3D gear would include gas and blades as if he were simply out using them.

Sample Entry:

[Perhaps it’s just the poor technology of the cell-phones, but the cool personality of the person talking does a good job of hiding the glint of something more threatening in the eyes.]

The water in the bathtub hasn’t been emptied for 3 days. I’ve counted, so don’t think people wouldn’t notice. Did you think that someone else was bound to use it? Did you think that someone else was bound to put aside the thought of your filth lingering in hardly soapy water and just step cheerfully into a pool of disease?

Or maybe you thought you were too busy to empty it, and that someone else would do it for you. That someone would just pull out the stopper because, what’s the big problem with someone else putting their hand into your mess and pulling it up, putting the same hand that they eat their food with in that water, when nobody in their right mind would set a toe in it? I don’t want to even want to breathe in there. Take care of it.

The sofas, too. There’s no use in cleaning them, they should be put out and set fire to. We can make a bonfire of it, I’m sure.

Sample Entry Two:

Well they certainly were far from home. The fact that there were people around made him think that perhaps there weren’t Titans in this place, despite the destruction to the town. It couldn’t be without good reason; the dead ground was suspicious, and maybe whatever caused it to be dead also caused things like Titans to stay away, like any other animal.

But from what he had gathered from the few conversations he’d managed, it didn’t actually sound like there were Titans in this world at all. Another world? People couldn’t even comprehend a life outside the walls, how could there be another world entirely, a world that he could somehow get to? He was, at once, both curious and full of trepidation, the latter showing in a tense set of his shoulders and a more critical gaze that usual. The ruined town, though he’d seen plenty, told him this place wouldn’t be too different from home, after all.

How do I reading comprehension. Sorry!

Sample Entry:

[Tibarn woke up in a small bed, huddled against a wall. That was his first clue. You need a big bed when you've got a fourteen foot wingspan. And you don't sleep next to walls. Tibarn curses in a growl under his breath as he rolls out of the bed, sore and dazed, wondering how the hell he went to sleep comfortable and content in a bed made for a king, and woke up in beggar's shack obviously made by and for beorc.]

[ It doesn't take much talking to the people around him to figure it out. They're all of them taken to this place from places he's never even heard of. And they've never heard of laguz, nevermind Tellius.]

[What the hell is going on? The other rooms aren't much bigger than the first. The stairwell's even worse, and the windows too all small to bother alighting from. So he walks, and asks around, looking for answers. Seems like Yune's doing to him, but nobody seems to know who the goddess is, and that doesn't make Tibarn feel any better about this place.]

[Tibarn's mind races as he breathes in the stiff, dusty air. If not Yune, then what goddess or magic did this? (Not a chance the beorc are smart enough.) And this definitely isn't Tellius, so where the hell is he?]

[He gets outside, and the racing thoughts stop at the look of it. The empty sky, the stone ground. Gray. Gray, and empty, and quiet. Tibarn's blood runs cold, his fists clenching at his side like talons. It's worse than he thought.]

Sample Entry Two:

As far as Tibarn could tell, this Haven place was a cage, plain and simple. No grass, no trees. All stone and glass, all made by beorc. Nothing natural. And all of it abandoned, left to nature.

That was the problem with it, though. Nature didn't want it. A burned down forest grows up from the ashes, stronger than before. But this place? This place was cursed. Like when the goddess Ashera had turned everyone to stone. Quiet. Orderly. Wrong.

They weren't all laguz here, though. Or beorc-- some of the people he saw were definitely something else. Then why? What did they all have in common, if not their race? There was something going on. They were put in this cage for a reason; Tibarn was sure of it. But whatever the reason, it was no excuse.

Someone was going to pay. His captors were smart to hide. Because when Tibarn found out who was keeping them in this box of stone and glass, there were going to find out exactly why you don't cage a hawk.

[personal profile] wakey_wakey 2013-11-13 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
The best way to describe Budd involves drawing numerous references to animal psychology - namely that of fighting dogs.

The aggressive trait has been bred into them since forever because of their natural fighting, survival, and adaptability skills. This is also true of Budd. Everyone naturally possesses some display of strengths and weaknesses, and Budd's are literally the same as a fighting dog's. His predisposition for aggression would not have naturally become a familiarity with violence without exterior influence and conditioning.

As the object of his endearing, unyielding trust and affection, Budd's cunning, manipulative, sociopathic brother Bill is both his literal and figurative 'Master,' as well as the reason for the end result of Budd's nature.

This natural display of skills can, however, be molded into a variety of less violent directions, such as careers in law enforcement, or the military. On a less offensive scale, men like Budd make the most loyal and competent guardians. And loyal, competent, and protective he is.

But his older brother, Bill, the snake-charmer, saw fit to elicit different purpose. And as one can either raise a pit bull to be a vicious weapon for dog fighting or a loyal guardian of a child, Bill saw fit to take an inherently calm and protective dog of the fighting breed, and capitalize on bringing out that dormant long-bred aggressive gene.

He equipped him with superior fighting skills, weapons, cover, secret bases, fake id's - a way to kill for fun and profit and never have to worry about the consequences. Budd's laissez-faire attitude and lack of personally ambitious life-direction allowed him to comfortably follow his brother around, without Bill even needing a leash to guide him.

By the time Budd's philosophical side caught up with him, he didn't regret what he'd become, or the things he had done in life. To which, if Budd has any natural mental sickness, it is certainly a lack of remorse. But in Budd's case, it is more out of acceptance and adaptability and less because he is the same 'soul-less sociopath' many folks would declare his brother to be, (which he doesn't personally believe, since he is one of the only people to whom Bill shows a soft-side which is obviously and completely capable of at least portraying believable empathy, and emotions.)

His lack of regret allowed him to stay, aiding his brother's criminal enterprise and mostly, doing whatever he needed in order to stay close and keep a watch on his brother. More than anything anyone could try to make Budd, his only natural inclination in life seemed to be taking the reverse role in being the younger brother being protective of the older one.

Though Bill had countless enemies, Budd was less concerned with Bill's life and physical safety, knowing the kingpin was far more capable of looking out for himself than Budd could ever be (though he still felt better knowing he was sticking around during the prime of D.V.A.S. activity). Budd was always more concerned with what few emotions Bill expressed, and even more so, the ones he didn't. Which is why when Bill found Beatrix, and managed to fall in love, Budd was happy as a pickle.

Happy for his brother, but more worried than he had ever been.

Bill might have been the wise and resourceful brother, but Budd was the versatile one with the uncanny intuition. It was his place to express as much general concern as a brother would towards any relationship prospect, but in spite of the bad feeling he couldn't shake, he didn't push it. Bill's temper resulted in people dying, and Budd knew that while his brother truly loved him, even the bond of brotherhood didn't make him immortal.

So, naturally, seeing the events of Bill and Beatrix's separation from his brother's limited point of view, Budd blamed himself for the fallout - second only to, 'that cheatin' whore' and never quite recovered. Defined by a need to serve, and feeling he had thus failed at his most pivotal need and important role in life, the fallout between Bill and Beatrix hurt him as deeply in his own way as it did the snake-charmer.

Of course, when Beatrix didn't die and came back, picking off the gang meant to assassinate her, one-by-one, Budd had time to think. He was both philosophical enough in his down-to-Earth countryside manner, and sufficiently capable in the art of empathy, that he could truly understand the Bride's motives for revenge. As he even stated to his brother, it was completely logical that they all deserved to die for what they'd done.

But when it came down to it, fatal misunderstanding and all technical details aside, unintentional or otherwise, this woman had still hurt his brother. Need for justification both aside and irrelevant, this woman was coming to kill his brother, and for that reason alone, she deserved to die.

In this, Budd possesses unwavering loyalty to Bill. He is the only character without exterior motives, who exists wholly to serve and protect his brother.

It could be inferred though, that there is an element of his logic which suggests besides simple protective loyalty, there is an appreciation and honor for whatever nature deems just; instead of simply killing Beatrix when she came for him, to get it over with and ensure his brother's safety and posterity, he buries her alive. It is almost as if his unspoken challenge to her was, "If you can get out of this, you deserve your revenge."

And if she couldn't live up to the challenge, a 'Texas Funeral' is one of the most horrible ways to die.

If he hadn't thrown his life away to end up such a druggie, white-trash piece of junk, his death standing against Beatrix and defending his brother to the bitter end would have been tragic.

Except that wasn't how he died. Beatrix did not get the satisfaction, which is unfortunate for Budd, because he would have been at peace dying for her revenge, alongside standing with his brother.

Budd is killed by a woman who everyone seemed to overlook. But those are spoilers that we don't need to delve into, because for the purpose of the game, I am taking Budd from before his death.

Abilities/Powers:
At one point, Budd owned and used a Hanzo sword - master Japanese Katana maker - which are only given to the elite or acquired by internationally respected assassin's. They are also virtually priceless, so to obtain one, one must be obviously well-connected and feared. It wasn't his choice method of skilled killing, however. Budd prefers firearms, his personal favorite being the shotgun.

It is clear that, as a member of the internationally feared and renowned Deadly Viper Assassination Squad that he must have been a skilled and able fighter regarding melee.

Budd's greatest attribute is his skill in strategy; for example, his anticipation of how Beatrix would plan to attack him, countering her actions in advance.

He also has a related trademark of childish sadism, which is reflected in his speech. Budd labels this as his way of staying sane by seeing the brighter side in all circumstances, and is probably genuinely oblivious to how demented it actually seems to others.

Items/Weapons: 3" switchblade in his jean pocket; high-end pump-action shotgun [limited ammo].
Sample Entry: [Sample A] ; [Sample B]
Sample Entry Two:
[ Budd woke up with the remnants of a hangover, somewhere he'd never been and didn't recognize - but he wasn't panicking yet. This wasn't the first time this had happened, and when it had happened before, it was usually because someone was trying to kill him.

Of course, when someone is trying to kill you, panicking is the stupidest reaction you could have. While Budd was many kinds of stupid, he was also a lot smarter than he looked. One kind of smart he was, was street-smart. He had survival instincts, and at times like this, was damn grateful for it.

Confusion set in when he saw a phone left out -for him?- and a five other currently unoccupied beds. His kidnappers? He couldn't be sure. There were no weapons or evidence around the room at first glance, and he wasn't sure he wanted to stay long enough to find something. Taking the phone for now and fiddling with it quietly for a bit, it didn't take long for the former assassin to toss it and leave the room in hopes of piecing together what exactly the Hell was going on here.

Character Name: Ritsuka Aoyagi || Loveless
Canon: Loveless (Manga)
Canon Point: End of Chapter 68; Right after Ritsuka goes to sleep.
Background/History: Loveless @ Wikipedia
Previous Game History: N/A

[personal profile] ex_ingrain634 2013-11-16 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Ritsuka is a twelve year old boy from Tokyo, Japan. Despite being an elementary student, Ritsuka is very mature. This is all because he's had a very hard life. In just two years of his life he's lost his memories, been heavily abused by his mother and lost his brother.

Ritsuka isn't overly nice to most people, when he starts at his new school he puts on a perfect act for his teacher and the adults around him. He states that he's perfectly fine, never mind the injuries on his face or the fact a sixth grader was forced to go to his new school alone on their first day. The moment he's faced with his classmates though, the act drops. He becomes uninterested, reclusive and cold. When Yuiko, a girl in his class, tries to be friendly to him, asking him questions to find out his likes and interests, he answers crossly. When she reveals she's only asking all these random questions because the other girls in the class wanted to know, he calls her stupid for doing what they say. He makes her cry and becomes 'number one enemy' in his class for a time because of it.

Despite this, Ritsuka isn't cruel. He doesn't want to break someone and does eventually apologize to Yuiko and the two of them become friends. This especially becomes true after Yuiko goes against her 'friends' wishes which ends with her being rejected from their group. He encourages her to be better, and fights for her when others bully her.

The most interesting thing about Ritsuka is that most of his reactions are actually very childish; he's mature in his way of thinking, but when he gets angry he lashes out and yells. When he doesn't get his way, he pouts. He's still a child, an abused one who's had to grow up a lot very suddenly, but a child none the less.

Ritsuka suffers from a severe case a fear of being forgotten or of forgetting. He doesn't trust memories, which is wise as he's lost his before. When he was ten years old, something happened that ends with him losing his memories and his entire personality changes with it. He goes from being a very enthusiastic child who was sociable and well liked in class to being reclusive and disinterested. The switch is so noticeable that his teachers from his old school mention it in his reports.

His mother is very hurtful to him, not just physically; though she does beat him regularly, almost every injury he ever has in the series is from her attacks on him. She beats him saying that he's not 'her Ritsuka', she screams at Seimei, his brother, to not talk to him because of this and yells at their father for not agreeing with her. Her abuse has a negative effect on his psyche too, there are even times when he mentions that he wished he could disappear. Disappear and let this 'other Ritsuka' come back. He loves his mother, and protects her from insult and threat. Soubi at one point offers to kill her, because what horrible person would beat their own child? Interestingly while Ritsuka does really love her, he's even happy when she hugs him despite her tying him to a chair for 'his safety'; it also appears to be a case of a fear of abandonment. If she were to die or be taken away, he'd be truly alone because after some point in the manga, his father is no longer mentioned or seen. It is my belief he left his wife and son.

Ritsuka suffers from a desperate need to be loved. When faced with Soubi and his constant declarations of love he doesn't know what to do. He wants to believe him, wants to trust him but Ritsuka has been so long without real love that he doesn't. He takes pictures with people, making memories with them, and always gives them copies of the pictures. As I've said before, he doesn't trust his memories or that of anyone else.

One very particular thing about Ritsuka is he is completely against violence. When he does participate in battles, he demands that Soubi only end the fight but not break their enemy. When he announces his goal to catch his brother's murderer, he says he doesn't want to use violence to achieve this. He detests it.

As the series goes on, and Ritsuka meets more people, he becomes kinder and more loving. His teacher even states that he's opened up more, that he was making more friends and was very resolute. Ritsuka believes in hope, despite being sure people will eventually forget him, he lives strongly in the now; when they do remember him.

Abilities/Powers:
Ritsuka is a sacrifice, which is basically the damage taker in spell battles. He is supposed to control Soubi, his fighter, but often times Soubi fights by himself or without much direction from Ritsuka. Ritsuka usually is the one demanding Soubi not hurt their enemy too much.
Ritsuka's real name is Loveless, usually Fighters and Sacrifices have the same name and have it somewhere on their body. Ritsuka does not have his 'name' anywhere on his body and Soubi, his fighter, is actually his brothers. Because of this their fighting power is half of what it should be.

Items/Weapons:
One messenger bag with one box of band-aids and one cellphone given to him by Soubi.
Sample Entry:
Dear Mun Thread
Sample Entry Two:

Usually he doesn't jerk awake, even with nightmares he's not a violent waker but the sound of the alarm has him jerking up to sitting. His ears are straight up in alarm, his tail pulling out from under him and flicking out in concern. He hadn't set an alarm and he knows Soubi hadn't, the older man hadn't been in the frame of mind to even think of setting one.

"Soubi-" He starts to question, his mouth open as he turns to the left, glancing down to the bed. Freezing, a chill goes up his back, his thin frame drawing itself closer together in surprise. Soubi wasn't there, and instead of a queen sized bed he'd fallen asleep on with his sacrifice he was in a twin in a room... a room very different than where he should be.

"Soubi?" His voice is worried and that causes him to clear it, maybe Soubi moved him, he's carried him around before, maybe they couldn't stay in the room anymore even if Ai and Midori had said they could.

"Soubi?" Finally, Ritsuka gets out of bed. He goes to check the bathroom first, then the kitchen, and by doing this he's quickly becoming aware of the fact that this isn't right. Taking a breath he fights down the panic he can feel in the back of his throat. He's gone through worse, this is nothing.

Finally he walks to the window, and blinks at what lay before him.

A ruined city, a too cheery sign announcing the cities name was Haven. No- no this can't be right! This isn't right at all!

Personality:
Wally, first and foremost, is a superhero. This means he actively commits his life to justice whether he has his powers or not and has a strong sense of what is right and wrong. He risks his life for people every day and is proud to do so. Helping people fills Wally's life with the excitement and attention he needs and craves, though at first he reasons for wanting to be a superhero are mostly superficial. He seeks attention everywhere he goes, wants people to notice him and remember him (and gets annoyed when people can't even remember his name; it's Kid Flash, how hard is that?)—which may also explain his flirtatious attitude: he just wants girls to notice him, so he plays it up and keeps playing it until it works (it usually doesn't, but that doesn't stop him from trying). However, this isn't to say that Wally doesn't enjoy doing his job, he just doesn't understand that it's not about him until he's deployed on a mission to save a little girl on his birthday when the rest of the team is off fighting ice villains with the Justice League. (This hasn't actually happened yet from his canonpoint perspective, but I mention it mostly as evidence that he can and will eventually mature.)

Of course, because Wally is a speedster, he is very impulsive (though he was impulsive before he became a speedster considering he just decided he wanted to blow himself up to become a superhero), and often speaks his mind or acts without thinking about the consequences. He also just talks a lot, and tends to ramble, especially when he's explaining things. Again, he likes to be the center of attention. Of course, his mouth is particularly uncontrollable around females, who he flirts with relentlessly, regardless of whether they seem interested or not. He's constantly trying to impress the ladies (and will go to great lengths to do so, like pretending to believe in magic when he most definitely does not), gives them nicknames ("Megalicious" for example, though this is more headcanon than canon), and even if a girl seems slightly repulsed by or indifferent to his advances, he continues flirts with them anyway. This usually gets him in trouble with Robin, who tends to reminds Wally how forward/rude he's being by hitting him. Wally also tends to respond to Robin's hitting/joking with his infamous, indignant "dude!" Of course, this isn't to say that Wally is a creeper. Sure, he tries a little too hard, but no means no—and in the case of Megan, the main reason Wally continues to flirt with her is because she hasn't rejected him openly or given him any indication that she isn't interested. And while it may seem obvious to everyone else, Wally's obliviousness is simply a product of his naivety. Sometimes you have to be very blunt with him before he gets it.

However, he isn't stupid, just slow sometimes. He may be a speedster, but he can be pretty slow on the uptake sometimes, and he's almost always late to things. This is mostly due to the fact that time passes different for speedsters, so he always thinks he has more time than he actually does. This makes school particularly boring, because sitting in a chair and only moving to change classes every fifty minutes is extremely taxing for a speedster, though this is mostly on applicable to classes like English and History, or classes where he's not actively doing anything with his hands or brain, like in any of the science or math classes. Science is, of course, his passion, and he truly is a man of science—he got his powers by re-recreating the Flash experiment after finding his uncle's notes; he correctly identified the chemical makeup of Kobra-Venom; he's tried multiple times to explain why magic can't exist because science explains everything (pocket dimensions, using science to simulate magic etc.); he even walked Robin through how to make an EMP emitter. He may act dumb sometimes (coming up with a truly dumb idea literally helped them on their mission to locate Red Tornado), but he really is quite intelligent, you just have to give him the right opportunity.

Despite his seemingly large ego and confidence in his intelligence and abilities, Wally is actually hiding a number of insecurities: that he isn't fast enough, that the Flash doesn't really want or need him as a partner (Flash was never looking for a partner; Wally essentially forced/guilted the Flash into taking him on as a partner due to the way he got his powers), that he'll never get a date. He plays it all up and acts like he's all that to cover up the fact that these things do in fact bother him and he'd rather ignore his issues than confront them. He even admits in a later episode that he's comfortable staying in denial about his outburst to Artemis' "death" (which Black Canary suggests might be due to his possible feelings for her).

That being said, he does have a temper, though most of these instances happen much later in the series—his near-violent reaction to Artemis' "death" (vowing to kill every last alien if it was the last thing he does) as well as his confrontation with Dick in the second season where there was violence in response to the fact that Dick almost died and in the process endangered all the members of his team. He can also be passive aggressive (as he was during 90% of "Alpha Male" when he was annoyed that Kaldur hadn't told the team about the mole) and holds grudges, and because he'd rather ignore the problem at hand, these grudges can last a while—he held a grudge against Artemis for at least a month for lying to him just as he was beginning to accept her as a legitimate member of the team.

Being the butt of jokes doesn't help either, though he's mostly used to being teased and plays it off like it's nothing because he's the comic relief character. But sometimes it bothers him that people don't always take him seriously—part of the reason why he bickers with Artemis so much (the other part being that he doesn't fully trust her, at least from his canonpoint)—and that's when he starts to get indignant and sarcastic. He can be quite the sassmaster when he wants to be. Plus, being a sidekick, it's basically written in his nonexistent contract that he must make stupid puns and throw quips and snark at people, which he does frequently. He's got a great sense of humor, and usually has witty comebacks to things, unless he's around Robin who tends to outwit him. He also tends to make pop culture references—from Harry Potter to Planet of the Apes—and he has a good deal of nerdy memorabilia/merchandise in his room (as seen in the Young Justice side comics). He's passionate about the things he loves and isn't afraid to show it.

Abilities/Powers:
① SUPERSPEED: Ability to run at superhuman speed, reaching maximum speed at around 700mph (just under the speed of sound). However, unlike The Flash (and Impulse), he still has to accelerate and decelerate to reach any speed. He can also create wind funnels by running in circles at high enough speeds.
② ACCELERATED METABOLISM: Wally's body metabolizes energy much faster than an average human, which is why he is almost always seen eating something, and why, if he ever needed prescription drugs, he'd need a much higher dose than normal or it wouldn't affect him at all. The same goes for alcohol or any other brain-altering substance.
③ ACCELERATED HEALING: Not instant, but slightly faster than normal, though this may only apply to minor injuries, as his broken arm took about the average time to heal (about six weeks).
④ ACROBATICS: Though not as skilled as Dick, Wally has been shown to pull off a number of acrobatic maneuvers with relative ease. He still runs into doors and walls from time to time, but that's a side effect of his inability to decelerate properly.
⑤ SUPERHUMAN REFLEXES: He reacts much faster than a normal person would, and can usually dodge most anything you throw at him, if he's paying attention. (He'd be great at dodgeball if he could actually use his powers in gym class.)
⑥ ACCELERATED BRAIN FUNCTION: He thinks and processes information much faster than normal humans, however, he does not have an eidetic memory. If he speedreads something, he will only remember it long enough to put it to use immediately after, and even then he won't understand it entirely. For example, if he speedread The Great Gatsby, he could tell you exactly what happened, but he wouldn't be able to give you an analysis of its underlying meaning.
⑦ NATURALLY HIGH IQ: Wally is smart, he just doesn't always act like it. He's not quite a science prodigy, but he has a very high aptitude for science and math (examples mentioned above), and even mechanics (he offered his 'expert help' in fixing Superboy's motorcycle and did actually fix it).

Sample Entry: Post from Route 29
Sample Entry Two:
Wally has literally never been so hungry in his life. He could honestly eat an elephant—possibly the entire Savannah—and still be hungry. It's gotten to the point where it hurts to be this hungry, like something is tearing open his stomach from the inside, and he thinks he might be dying or something painfully similar to it. The fatigue and dizziness certainly aren't helping. He can't even run anymore, not unless he wants to pass out immediately, and that's way too dangerous in a place like this. It's kill or be killed, and if he can't rely on his speed anymore, he's got to at least be able to have enough energy to fight properly hand-to-hand or with a weapon.

Of course, he hasn't actually spoken to Robin about any of this, been playing it off like it's nothing—and, to be honest, Robin probably already knows—but he isn't ready to admit that something is seriously not okay with him. He needs time to mentally prepare himself for the conversation that might very well end in "Dude, I think I'm dying."

He's honestly never regretted doing that experiment more in his life—and that's something he never thought he'd say ever. That experiment was the best thing that happened to him when he was thirteen and thought he was invincible. Now he feels the exact opposite of invincible and he hates it. He hates feeling this vulnerable, but there isn't much he can do about it. A shortage is still a shortage and his accelerated metabolism isn't going to change that.

Maybe there's something for the pain, at least, something that can make him forget about the hunger for a while. Just a little while. He'll be fine if he can just hold out a little longer, right?

Character Name: Natsu Dragneel
Canon: Fairy Tail
Canon Point: Chapter 355
Background/History: sup dawg
Personality:

Natsu is a shounen hero.

...What do you mean that's not enough. IT SHOULD BE ENOUGH. Okay fine, whatever. So like, Natsu Dragneel. The first thing you should know about him is that he is one of seven dragon slayers (so far) in the Fairy Tail universe. He was actually taught dragon slaying magic by his father-figure, Igneel. Who happens to be a dragon. Nearly all of the dragon slayers were taught by dragons. Because, as we find out, dragons are fucking dragons and most of them aren't nice (most of them are also dead but shhh). In any event, Igneel is very important to Natsu, because Natsu lost his parents when he was too young to remember them, so basically all he knows is Igneel. Prior to the start of the series, Igneel, along with the other dragons who fostered dragon slayers, disappeared. Which is what ultimately led Natsu to join Magnolia's Fairy Tail wizard guild; he wants to see Igneel again, so he chases after whatever leads he can find, no matter how ridiculous (or dangerous) they are.

Natsu never shies away from the ridiculous (or the dangerous- particularly that). As the main protagonist of Fairy Tail, he has a huge personality that'll suck you up into its vortex if you're not careful...and even if you are careful. He's the sort of person who is very comfortable and confident in his own skin- sometimes overconfident. He'll challenge anyone to a fight, no matter how much they overpower him or whether or not they'd given him a beatdown in the past- these things actually serve as motivators for him. He performs best when he's pressured, when the stakes are high enough to look insurmountable and everyone's hopes are resting on him. Rather than falter beneath the weight, he thrives under it. Which is not to say he always wins- he still has never beaten Erza, for example, and he didn't consider his victory against Gildarts during the S-Class wizard trials a true victory because he didn't actually defeat Gildarts, but rather yielded the fight (Gildarts, impressed by Natsu's acknowledgment of his weaknesses, passed him on account of that). But he wins when it truly matters, often pulling insane strategies out of his ass in the spur of the moment or once he's had time to analyze his opponent. I mean, this is the kid who ate both Etherion-infused lacrima (think toxic crystals loaded with magical essence that would kill a normal person really quick) and the fire right off of a fire dragon. (Yeah, I guess I should mention Natsu physically consumes fire as if it were food- which, to him, it is.) As far as he's concerned, it's not over until it's over, particularly if the lives of his comrades are at stake or the name of his guild is being dragged through the mud.

Like all members of Fairy Tail, Natsu considers the guild his family, and is insanely loyal to it- yeah, he may not have a sunshine and roses sort of relationship with everyone in it (hello, Gray, how are you), but he'd still go out on a limb for any of them without a second thought. Even if they made really stupid decisions and could've caused a lot of harm to innocent bystanders, like Laxus did during his attempt to wrest the position of master away from Makarov, the current master of Fairy Tail. Sure, Natsu was furious and fought against Laxus with everything he had, but after the dust settled and Laxus was banished, he still considered Makarov's grandson a comrade and member of the family (Laxus, having undergone a change of heart, has since been reinstated). There are a few things that'll really mash Natsu's rage button: a) physically or emotionally hurt his family, b) treat your own comrades like garbage and act as if they're expendable, c) badmouth Fairy Tail, d) rob someone of their right to a future of their own making (which is tangentially related, though I'll talk about that in a bit). Though they're all fond of their guild hall in Magnolia, wherever his comrades are is where Natsu's home is, where Fairy Tail is, and their bonds are unbreakable. They each operate under the belief that if you make an enemy of one of them, you make an enemy of all of them. One person's sorrows are all of their sorrows. One person's happiness is all of their happiness. Which is why the idea of using a guildmate for your own gain, of not giving a rat's ass about what happens to them, is an utterly foreign concept to Natsu, and it makes him behave rashly. Likewise if you hit any of his other rage buttons.

And should you get it into your head that you want absolute dominion over everyone, that you are not going to let others make mistakes, stumble, fall, pick themselves up and try again...if you want to determine someone's fate...if you want to deny someone their future...don't let yourself step into Natsu's path because he'll find a way to wipe the floor with you. Who wants that, really??? He's pretty scary when he's pissed I'm just saying. (It should be noted, however, that, like with Laxus, just because you were against him once doesn't necessarily mean he won't give you another chance at some point down the road, if you really and truly have learned from your past actions. If you haven't....good luck!)

In addition to to being a skilled fighter, Natsu is also an excellent motivator. As I said before, his bonds with the members of Fairy Tail are absolute, as is his trust in them. If someone tells him they can handle an enemy on their own, he'll take them at their word despite how dire the situation may appear, with the understanding that nobody is allowed to just throw their life away- which is why he gets so angry at Erza when he discovers she intends to sacrifice herself for the others during the Tower of Heaven arc and makes her promise never to do anything like that again. Natsu is the one who calls the dragon slayers to action when the Eclipse Gate opens and dragons from 400 years in the past begin spilling through, telling them that this moment is what they were made for- seven dragon slayers against seven dragons. It's kind of hard not to feel inspired when Natsu is nearby, because his attitude is always one of unflinching determination (and hell, sometimes even a cocky sort of joy because he loves the thrill of a good fight, especially when he knows his comrades are at his back).

...So that's a lot about what motivates him, but now we've gotta cover the nitty gritty. Natsu is an exuberant dude. Usually when he goes on a mission you know destruction is bound to follow because moderation is not a word in his vocabulary (this applies to most of the guild though, they are notorious for the chaos that follows in their wake, like, they've been known to brawl with each other in their own common area at the guild hall, for crying out loud). And he's a total ham. He dressed up as a devil- Dark Lord Dragneel!!! -as part of an elaborate ruse in Edolas and totally threw himself into the role. He also was absent during a portion of a huge celebration after the seven dragons were sent back because he was totally stealing the king of Fiore's crown and you bet he made a dramatic appearance and called himself king. In some ways he's very childlike (how he looks at the world, how he approaches things) but he also has his moments of profound maturity. He has a rather cavalier attitude about nakedness (not to the extent that Gray takes it, like, he doesn't shed his clothes randomly whenever he can and he rags on Gray for doing that but)- he's seen Lucy completely naked and didn't even bat an eyelash (though he did reach out to fondle her boobs), no to mention he and Gray crashed the girls' soak in the hot springs by...joining them. He has a mischievous streak a mile wide and can also be kind of a jerk sometimes, but hey, at least he's self-aware and doesn't pull punches. On that note, telling him not to do something is basically a guarantee that he's gonna do it, even if Makarov's the one handing down the orders.

He thinks nothing of letting himself into Lucy's apartment whether he received an open invitation or not, and he's so close to Lucy that he knows things about her she probably wishes he didn't know- like she totally has a constipation problem!!! But then, he's the one who brought her to Fairy Tail when she expressed her dream in joining and formed a team with her. Happy, the flying cat (or Exceed, as his species is called) he and Lisanna hatched from an egg when they were little is Natsu's dearest friend. Speaking of Lisanna, he is also close to her as well, since he's been friends with her for years, and when they all thought she had died nobody in the guild talked about her in front of him, because doing so would make him stupidly sad. He and Gray are both terrified of Erza even though they love her, mainly because she'd lay the smackdown on them for not getting along (they still don't get along as well as they could, but they do work together because they are comrades). His fellow Fairy Tail dragon slayers, Wendy and Gajeel, are cool in his book though he bickers with Gajeel basically all the time (though, funnily enough, Gajeel was the only one who understood and 'translated' for Natsu when Natsu had his face and mouth all bandaged up after a fight).

Natsu's catch phrase is "I'm fired up!" which is fitting because he's pretty hot-blooded, and not just because his element is fire. For example, all of the Fairy Tail wizards who took part in the S-Class trials were saved from destruction at the mercy of the big bad of dragons, Acnologia, by Mavis Vermillion, the first master of Fairy Tail. She had enclosed Tenrou Island, where the trials took place, in a protective sphere that lasted seven years. The rest of the world moved on, and after the island reappeared, Fairy Tail was considered the weakest guild as opposed to the strongest, like before. Natsu jumps at the chance to compete in the Grand Magic Games and restore Fairy Tail to its former glory. As far as he's concerned, starting from the bottom is fun because they'll get to experience the thrill of moving up all over again. That's just. How he rolls man.

And one last thing! Natsu gets extremely motion sick on any moving vehicle- like, he is more or less incapacitated. (Except for when Happy transports him, but he chalks that up to Happy being his friend and not a vehicle- he got really annoyed with Lucy for asking why Happy didn't make him sick.) Apparently this is a dragon slayer quirk, because Gajeel also gets motion sick.
delectablefire: (you wish you burned this hot)

Natsu Dragneel | Fairy Tail | two.

[personal profile] delectablefire 2013-11-18 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Abilities/Powers:

Since Natsu is the main protag of a shounen series about magic and fighting and stuff, he has a crapton of tricks up his sleeve. Igneel was a fire dragon and since he taught Natsu dragon slaying magic, all of Natsu's magic is fire-related. As I mentioned before, he eats fire and if he does so during a fight, it replenishes his energy (though he cannot eat the fire he generates himself). If he's agitated or emotional, his fire burns really hot. He can make fire appear from anywhere on his body, though a lot of his moves center on his hands, feet or lungs (because you best believe he spews fire from his mouth like a fucking dragon, and sometimes that fire is equivalent to a dragon's in power). Depending on what he consumes (he's insane and doesn't just limit himself to fire), the properties of his flames will change, as well- for example, when he ate Laxus's lightning, his fire magic was therefore enhanced with lightning and its destructive power increased.

As a dragon slayer, he's capable of entering Dragon Force, a state which turns him into a humanoid dragon, more or less. Scales appear on his body and his canines elongate and sharpen, and his attack power and physical prowess increases. He's only done it twice, once again due to substances he consumed (Etherion the first time, and Jellal's Flame of Rebuke the second).

In addition, he has enhanced smell, hearing, strength, speed and reflexes. He is incredibly durable, able to survive some pretty intense attacks- including explosions!!!!! And he's very skilled at hand to hand combat.

Items/Weapons: Just the ever-present scarf that Igneel gave him. Natsu's weapon is his body, pretty much, and since he was completely naked at a hot spring prior to his arrival.....oops.

Sample Entry:

[So the first minute or so of this video feed consists of Natsu making a series of dumb faces at the camera because...who doesn't make faces in front of a camera I mean honestly. Plus it's not like he's ever seen a phone before. TECHNOLOGY SURE IS WEIRD. Eventually, however, the novelty wears off he heaves a very dejected sigh.]

This is no fun without Lucy or Happy. [Or any of the others, really. Even Gray.

...Maybe not Gray.]

Anyway, I heard a bunch of creeps are keeping us all captive. I don't know how they got their hands on me and I'm pretty pissed off about it. My magic's still in working order, though, and I figure someone's gotta have an idea of where their base of operations is. Just point me in the right direction, and I'll go bust 'em up. [YES HE IS SERIOUS. He grins and smacks a fist against his palm.] Natsu of Fairy Tail sends his regards.

[AW YEAH SO COOL.]

...Except I need a pair of pants, first. [HIS SCARF AND A DINGY BEDSHEET AIN'T GONNA CUT IT. He's not an exhibitionist freak like Gray!!!!!!!]

Sample Entry Two:

Ask Natsu Dragneel about what Fairy Tail was, and he'd reply family without much consideration. (Followed by the best guild in Fiore and home, though the order varied.) True, he didn't get along the best with all of his guildmates and squabbles broke out as squabbles tend to do (they were kind of an art form among Fairy Tail mages, one that extended beyond the guild hall and went out on the job with them, as their reputation could attest), and sometimes people made misguided choices that weren't so easily brushed under the rug, but the noise and the chaos and the heartache and the joy was all part of the business of being a member of a guild. Of a family. No family was perfect, which didn't matter so much at the end of the day. Perfection was boring, anyhow.

What mattered, what really mattered, was that you had a place to belong. A place where you were accepted and loved and valued, where every victory or defeat, every smile, every tear shed, was shared by all. The idea of a guild that judged your worth based on whether or not you failed or experienced moments of weakness seemed inherently wrong, the exact opposite of what made Fairy Tail so exceptional to begin with. Why join a guild at all if your members cared only for themselves and would sell each other out at the earliest opportunity? It didn't make sense. Natsu didn't want it to make sense.

After Igneel disappeared, without a goodbye, without a warning, Natsu did not have a family. The only father he'd ever known- dragon or no, he was more human to Natsu than humans were -had up and vanished and made Natsu an orphan again (because he must've been an orphan once, before Igneel took him in), only this time it hurt. This time Natsu understood what he'd lost and the hole Igneel left behind was almost too large to fill. So he did what any normal child would do. He set off on a quest to find the dragon that raised him. Even then, Natsu refused to think in terms of what was possible and what wasn't.

And while he had yet to be reunited with his father, he did find his family.

Or, rather, his family found him.

Fairy Tail was made up of people with baggage, with stories and pasts that brought them pain, and it bonded them together because they didn't have to bear it alone. They saw the best and the worst of each other, and everything in between.

And it was enough.

(Some day, he would find Igneel. Wendy would find Grandeeney. Gajeel would find Metalicana. But they wouldn't do it alone.)

Cassandra Anderson | Dredd | 2/3

[personal profile] wronganswer 2013-11-19 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Anderson is an idealist living in a harsh reality. She is very much the product of her environment. Based on the fact that the happiest expression we see from her in the entire movie is while she's looking at the photograph of her family, we can assume that she had a loving relationship with them and took their deaths hard. They've been her motivation to make a difference ever since, which is not an easy resolution to hold onto in a setting like Mega-City One. With the intense crime rate, grotesque and unrelenting violence, and widespread poverty inherent to the megalopolis, Anderson faces a constant barrage of reasons for her to give up on her compassion. Dredd is considered a model judge, with his permanent scowl and uncompromising application of the law, but throughout the movie we see both of them shift their stances, Anderson more overtly than Dredd.

She convinces Dredd without meaning to that there exists a gray area in morality. In the staunch fascism of this America, she nonetheless believes that justice is dispensed more rightly through her own judgement than through the law's. This is a rather shocking view for a Judge, but one Dredd himself sees the merit of, as he calls her "admirable" and grants her a pass on her assessment. Anderson herself becomes far harder and colder throughout the course of the movie as she's confronted over and over with the harsh reality of her surroundings. She grew up in a slum, but never before had she had to be the one to perpetrate some of the violence she saw around her. It's a facet of herself she had to come to grips with.

Ultimately, though, her hesitation vanishes. She never stops feeling remorse and she never flinches from showing mercy, as she lets the computer tech at the end go, but likewise she doesn't flinch from killing either. She sees the necessity of it and can be quite vindictive when she feels justified. She shows no pity or regret whatsoever for the fate that befalls Kay (the prisoner they'd taken who had shown her mental images of him raping her) and she seems to undergo a transformation. Anderson still feels and likely will always feel that some of those around her deserve help, but she's now become clear that it's only some of them. Although kind hearted, she unequivocally refuses to be made a victim, and she proves that several times.

In her interactions with others, she is respectful and attentive. For all her abnormal compassion, she is definitively a Judge with all that comes with it: matter of fact, sharp attention to detail, and curt word use. She has a softness to her expression, aided by the lack of helmet, that is less characteristic of Judges. At times she can make a dry, pithy joke, exhibiting that she does have a sense of humor, and she is able to form connections and friendships when the other person has proven worthy of her trust. Most of the time, she keeps her emotions tightly wrapped up, necessary for doing her job, and despite failing the aptitude test as a child, toeing the line with her grades all through the academy, and then failing the final test itself, she never gives up. Anderson is quite persistent and has her heart completely set on the course she's decided upon.

Used to being alone after her parents' deaths, she's adjusted to that life and communicates easily with Dredd, who is nothing if not intimidatingly stoic. Yet when she's faced with the fact that being a Judge sometimes means killing those who don't, in her evaluation, deserve it, she suddenly accepts that she isn't fit to be a Judge with subtle bitterness. She anticipates Dredd failing her and hands over her badge preemptively; her experiences in Peach Trees have at last proved to her what nothing else could, that she wasn't suited to be a Judge. In my view, having Dredd unexpectedly pass her will give her the incentive to try again, meting out her own definition of justice.

She is likewise utilitarian about her powers. One might assume that part of her love for her family comes from what might be an unexpected acceptance of her mutation. By no means are mutants common or well understood by society, and in many cases they are born with missing limbs or other deformities. Anderson is extremely uncommon in both her psychic strength and her normal features, but she never so much as hints at feeling ostracized because of it. She is unerringly focused on her mission and never doubts the orders she's been given. There is a harsh core to her, seen in the merciless way she mentally tortures Kay for his information, and ultimately she is a very good match as Dredd's partner. She does the right thing instead of the lawful thing, but God help anyone who stands in the way of that.
