Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:

Jin Kisaragi | BlazBlue | expired reserve | 2/4

[personal profile] glossological 2013-11-22 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
AX CRAZY INCESTUOUS YANDERE NIETZSCHE WANNABE

But allow me to elaborate.

Rank, admiration, prestige. The man who has earned everything most would kill and die for, crowned with the title of the "Hero", widely seen as a champion of justice, fighting to protect the weak like he did in the war. Perfect in every possible aspect. That's how most people imagine he must be, anyway.

Funny how wrong they are.

In reality, Jin Kisaragi is a cold, aloof and highly indifferent individual. Almost always calm and collected, he has no interest in the affairs of others, nor does he concern himself with what they might think about him. Rather cynical in nature, Jin has a somewhat nihilistic worldview. He sees people around him more as useless pests and pollution rather than human beings and becomes easily annoyed with their presence, let alone having to interact with them. He states people disgust him and isn't above treating them with disdain, often referring to them as "trash" and alike. His secretary, Lieutenant Noel Vermillion, often finds herself on the receiving end of this particularly harsh behavior due to her resemblance to Jin's little sister, whom he despises (but we'll get on to that). To say he finds it difficult to understand the feelings of others or sympathize with them would be an understatement - he doesn't even try, simply because they mean nothing to him. There is one other thing he despises just as much as other people, though - the moon. As a child, he was scared it would fall, and these days the moon serves as a reminder of his weakness and naivety, which is why he loathes it. Despite all of his successes and achievements as a soldier and member of Kisaragi family, he doesn't seem to feel accomplished in the slightest, and in fact states he can't even bring himself to care about all of that. His loyalty can be somewhat fluid; while he does obey orders given to him by the head of the family and his superiors, it's mostly because he chooses to let others decide the course of his life, not feeling the need to do anything about it - up to a point, that is. When something actually manages to catch his interest, he's not afraid to ignore what he's told to do and follow the path to his own goal instead. In spite of being known far and wide as a war hero (and for a good reason), he seems to have little faith in the NOL's system to govern the world and is well-aware of how corrupted it truly is.

Interestingly, Jin wasn't always like that. Back in the days when he attended the Military Academy, he was a model top student - intelligent, kind (if a little distant), excelling in both academics and combat - as such, it's no surprise he became the President of the Student Council and was admired by many fellow students. However, all of that was a facade - Jin himself admits as much, musing how difficult being nice to everyone and dealing with people in general are. His attitude changed completely after the Ikaruga Civil War, though the exact reason for that remains unknown (it may have had to do with Terumi erasing some of his memories of the incident), which is why many people who knew him from the Academy seem to assume he suffers from PTSD rather than showing his true colors. Even so, there are people he actually cares about - specifically, his only childhood friend, Tsubaki Yayoi, as well as Makoto Nanaya, a former junior student at the Academy. Uncharacteristically for him, he’s ready to go out of his way to protect them, and in Tsubaki's case might even sometimes act less harsh than usually.

Beneath that icy exterior lies something arguably more disturbing than a cold-hearted bastard, though. Jin has a rather unhealthy attachment to his older brother, Ragna. He was a needy and very dependent child, always seeking his brother's company and attention. As such, he grew extremely jealous whenever Ragna spent more time with their sickly little sister, Saya, and eventually grew to hate her. Although many years have passed since they were kids, Jin's feelings have only escalated, causing him to become completely obsessed with his brother. Whenever he faces Ragna, his personality takes a shift into a more twisted, insane version of himself; his behavior becoming almost child-like, teasing, sadistic, prone to outbursts of maniacal laughter, fixated on "playing" with (and eventually killing) his brother. Lord help you if you ever stand between the two, or if Jin suspects (even completely unreasonably) that you might want to take Ragna away from him - he's extremely possessive of his brother and doesn't let anyone touch him, albeit not without pointing out it's because he's the only one allowed to kill him. On the other hand, anything and anyone that reminds him of his sister will be treated with utmost aversion and disgust, and may eventually cause him to go berserk and lash out on a person for no apparent reason - and such is the case with Lieutenant Vermillion, whom he tried to kill simply because she looks and sounds just like Saya.

To be fair, Jin's lack of both empathy and emotional stability may steam from reasons other than him being a sociopath - his immerse drive to kill his brother, for example, as well as (possibly) the range of his hatred towards his sister seem to be caused by his Power of Order, which compels him to destroy any threat to the world's balance. Moreover, he's been under the influence of his Nox Nyctores for a long time, and those weapons are known to put enormous mental strain on their wielders, eventually causing them to go mad. Yukianesa in particular appears to fuel his cold behavior toward others (though really, he's a complete jerk without its influence as well) and only strengthens his feelings towards the people he has interest in in one way or another, thus clouding his judgment and driving him insane. However, due to the events of Continuum Shift, he finally managed to overcome Yukianesa's influence and slowly begins to control it rather than letting it manipulate him.

Jin Kisaragi | BlazBlue | expired reserve | 3/4

[personal profile] glossological 2013-11-22 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Abilities/Powers: First off, here's a handy Move List for easy reference!
  • intelligence: Despite what some more skeptical individuals might suggest, Jin did not earn his position as the President of Student Council solely due to his last name. He's both smart and observant, which makes it easy for him to judge the strength of a potential opponent and search for any possible openings in their defense. He seems to be a great tactician, too, given how he managed to end a long-lasting war within just two days of his assignment to the post, earning himself the rank of Major despite having just graduated from the Academy.

  • physical strength and stamina: Being a trained soldier, he obviously possesses both of those. Additionally, he’s a skilled swordsman, capable of defeating many opponents without trouble, as well as keeping up with those who would appear more powerful, including Hakumen, Hazama (whom he even nearly defeated once) or Mu-12. His combat style is fast and elegant yet powerful, focusing on quick-draw sword techniques combined with manipulation of ice (see below).

  • Ars Magus: To someone not familiar with it, Ars Magus may look like magic, but the truth is it's actually a combination of that and technology, developed due to the fact humans couldn't grasp magic in its pure form. To perform an ars, one needs to become acquainted with a specific grimoire, after which they can use it anytime. Most people could use ars given a proper grimoire, but the efficiency varies from one person to another. Jin is said to have very high armagus aptitude (one of the highest among the students of the Military Academy, actually, only beaten by Noel in that category), which means he can perform ars using less seithr (a substance present in the air everywhere in the BlazBlue universe) than most people. Ars can be used in many different ways, such as concealing one's presence, sealing or opening the door, healing, offense and many, many others; still, all of them require some amount of seithr to work.

  • Nox Nyctores - Mucro Algesco: Yukianesa: Nox Nyctores causality weapons are a set of weapons created about a hundred years prior to the events of Calamity Trigger, during the Dark War, for the purpose of fighting the Black Beast. Each of them was made using thousands of human souls. Not only are they powerful on their own, but they also subdue their wielders' emotions that would be "unnecessary" in the battlefield, such as fear or compassion, causing them to become far more ruthless and violent, as they no longer feel any remorse, nor are they afraid of losing their lives. Not everyone can use a Nox Nycrotes-class weapon, though; they choose their wielders themselves, and that's why they will protect them - but for a certain price. To quote, "that price can be anything, but one thing for sure - the person is losing something". What it was that Jin lost isn't clear, nor does he seem to realize the fact he did.

Yukianesa takes a form of a katana sword with blade made of ice; it grands its user the ability to control ice by manipulating moisture in the air; additionally, ice created that way is said to "erode life", which explains the damage it can cause to a person. However, such power doesn't come for free - as any other Nox Nyctores, Yukianesa puts a great mental strain on their wielder, eventually causing them to go insane. Such is the case with Jin and his sword, which occasionally makes him act aggressive towards people he's usually indifferent to, as well as is the main cause of his madness and obsession with Ragna. In fact, Yukianesa possesses will of its own and, according to Ragna, is responsible for Jin’s behavior (to the point of describing him as its "slave"), though he isn't aware of that himself. It's shown to be able to "talk" to him in his thoughts, usually encouraging him to kill other people, and even completely take control over him, in which case Jin doesn't remember his actions. Additionally, should Jin try to go against Yukianesa's will, it can stop responding to him, making it impossible to draw the sword. As of Continuum Shift, though, Jin is capable of overcoming the sword's influence and even draw it by force, making him the one in the control of the Nox, not the other way round.

  • Power of Order: When a person gets sick, their immune system reacts by creating antibodies to fight off the virus. The same is true for the BlazBlue universe - whenever there's some power that could threat the world, it creates the force that is supposed to preserve the balance, the "world's antibody". And said "antibody" manifests as one Jin Kisaragi. How this power works is still unclear, but the "order" is described as the force which purpose is to maintain the stability in the world. That doesn't automatically make it a positive thing, however - Jubei describes it as "neither good or evil", since it's only supposed to keep the world's balance; what Jin uses it for it entirely up to him, and as with any great power, if misused, it could destroy the world (which is why Mu-12 refers to Jin as "Endbringer"). According to Kokonoe, thanks to that power, no one and nothing can change Jin's conviction, and he can deflect phenomena interventions with sheer willpower... meaning he's quite literally immune to fate itself and could potentially reject certain events through force of will. However, the way he is now, Jin is nowhere near fully mastering that power, so something of that caliber is beyond him at this point.

Sample Entry Two:

The moon was too bright.

It was looming over the city alone in the dark, night sky, pesky, annoying, threatening.

Frankly, Jin was getting sick of it. No matter where he went, there was no escape from the dim light that irked him so much. Going back to his apartment was not an option, not with that garbage calling themselves his "roommates" polluting the space. He closed his eyes briefly, hoping to escape the sight at least for a moment, but the image that appeared under his eyelids wasn't any better. A little boy crying in fear, calling for his brother. A memory that would always come back to him on nights like that. Seeing his own past weakness and naivety was beyond frustrating, so the man opened his eyes and, not looking back to the sky, quickened his pace.

About ten minutes later, he found himself standing in front of the subway station he had been told about earlier. After walking down the stairs and reaching a station, Jin focused on a dark tunnel which supposedly led to another part of the city. He wasn't overly interested in exploring the place, but doing so would cause no harm, either, especially when he was still searching for any trace of him. Casting a simple ars to light the way, Jin stepped inside the tunnel.

He didn't have to wait long for the first monster to appear. He had been warned about them, but that wasn't enough to stop him from venturing there. And why would it?

"Yukianesa."

A pillar of ice rose beneath the creature, quickly spreading over and freezing it. The next one fell after being slashed with the sword, and so did the one after it.

Weak. So pathetically, awfully weak.

The scene repeated itself for a while, until what appeared to be another station came into view. Finally back to the surface, Jin looked to the sky with face filled with disdain. Judging by the moon's position, it must have been two hours, maybe a bit less. He took a quick look around, but nothing in particular managed to catch his attention, despite the architecture of the city being quite different from what he had seen so far. Nevertheless, he decided to stay on this side a little longer. After all, who knows? Perhaps he would get to meet him there...

His lips curved into a smirk at that thought.

"I'm sure I'll see you soon... Brother."

Moby Kingsley | Original Character | Not Reserved | 2 / 5

[personal profile] thievingly 2013-11-22 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Moby Kingsley
Background/History:
Moby was born into the Kingsley family, a family that prides itself on being directly descended from the first humans created by the gods. Because of this rich bloodline, Moby's family is capable of magic. The Kingsley family is very rich and Moby was enrolled in a private school as soon as he was elligible. His parents were distant and his older siblings were much too old for him to play with, so Moby relied on making friends with his charming personality. He got along well with most of the kids and despite not caring much about his studies, managed to get decent grades.

Moby's mother died when he was six. It was his first brush with death and it terrified him. He hadn't been very close to his mother due to living at the boarding school and his mother's constant work, but it scared him nonetheless. Moby learned very quickly that everyone has a set amount of time in this world, and his outlook on life started forming from that day. Perhaps he was considered cold or careless since he didn't mourn his mother's passing "properly", but Moby did miss her.

At age ten Moby started training to use magic. This process involved learning the basics from books scattered around the library in the Kingsley family home and watching demonstrations by his father and siblings. Moby studied hard to please his father, but after a year of hard work he was still incapable of casting even the easiest of spells. His father didn't give up and neither did Moby, though his siblings insisted that he didn't have the capability for magic. Moby would eventually realize they were right, but that would be after three years of intense magical training.

Moby's life at school was very normal. He passed his classes, made friends, and ultimately didn't act out much. He was a class clown and occasionally got in trouble for it, but for the most part there was nothing extraordinary about his childhood. The only thing that really stuck out was the fact that Moby couldn't keep his hands off other peoples' possessions. His thievery started after his mother's death at around age seven and continued all throughout his schooling. At age fifteen, after failing his magical training and having his father give up on him, Moby finished his schooling. His father wanted him to go into training to be a guard, like his elder brother Richard, but Moby had no interest in that. He couldn't work at the temple like his sister Celia because he didn't have any magic powers. The one thing Moby had learned that he actually liked during his time at school was stealing. He didn't like any of the subjects he had been taught and after deciding that he wanted to become a thief, he snuck away from home to hitch a ride to the delta.

His father and siblings were understandably worried when Moby went missing and while Moby did manage to make it onto a ship, all ships leaving the harbor were checked to ensure that Moby couldn't escape Taranya. Once he was found he was dragged home kicking and screaming (literally) and forced into training to become a guard. For two years he would endure the training at his father's request. Then his father died. Moby hadn't been much closer to his father than he was to his mother, but he took this death harder than he had his mother's. Moby's training slipped and he distanced himself from everyone, trying his hardest to figure out what the point of life was when death could rob someone of it so easily. He mourned his father's passing, but more than that he mourned his own innocence - he could no longer turn his face away from death and had to accept that one day he too would die.

In short, Moby spent quite some time being an angsty teenager and being a pain in the ass.

Richard became head of the family which meant that Moby saw even less of him. Celia was almost always at the temple which meant that Moby finally had a chance to sneak away from his family under the cover of darkness. He could finally fulfill his dream of stealing for a living, but he still left home with quite a bit of money to help him get started. This time he was able to pay his way on a ship and get out of town, headed toward the delta. He didn't know what he'd find there, but he was certain it would be better than trying to train to be a guard.

The delta was not a very welcoming place for a boy who had been raised in a very cushy lifestyle. The shock of it was nearly enough to make Moby turn around and head home, but this was his dream. He wanted to steal things and this would be his safe haven. It didn't take him long to figure out that everyone here operated under a code: money says more than words do. The money he had bought him a nice little house near the harbor and Moby spent time searching for other thieves who would be willing to teach him the tricks of their trade. Most of them laughed at him, saying a posh young lad like him would never make it anywhere in the underbelly of the realm. Moby persevered though and eventually stopped using his last name. He didn't need people to know that he was from a rich family like the Kingsleys; they might assume that he could use magic or that it would be beneficial to take him hostage and blackmail his family.

This was around the time he met Lae, his future partner-in-crime. Like him, Lae was a bit of an oddball in the delta, but for a different reason entirely: she could use magic despite being from a low-born family. She had been sent to the temple of earth to train her powers, but she had run away because she had no desire to be a temple-keeper. Lae and Moby hit it off right away and became good friends. The two of them eventually managed to get an apprenticeship under an older thief who was impressed by Lae's magic. She insisted that she wouldn't train with him unless Moby was allowed to come too, and the thief agreed. Darius became their new master and the two of them worked very hard to impress him and learn everything they could from him.

Life was remarkably good during this three year period. Moby picked up the skills he needed and learned quickly; he ended up being a better thief than Lae, but her magic always backed him up. They both learned how to fight with knives (as opposed to swords which Moby had already been trained to use), they learned how to throw knives, and they learned how to slip in and out of places undetected. Darius was impressed with the two of them and was prepared to retire when he proposed one final mission. They were to raid one of the rich families in the city of Plagis, the Ehlm family. Everything was planned out by Darius and if everything went according to plan, it would be a simple job. They would sneak in, take whatever things of value they could find, and get out. Darius' clan consisted of eight people, so it shouldn't have been a difficult mission.

Everything went wrong. One of the newer clan members had leaked information to the Ehlm family and they were ambushed by guards. Several of the clan members were outright killed, including Darius. Others were taken captive. Lae managed to escape, but Moby ended up caught in a battle with the heir to the Ehlm family, Marquis. Marquis wasn't just a skilled swordsman, he could also use fire magic. They fought viciously for quite some time before Marquis revealed that he knew exactly who Moby was.

Marquis had been in the class under Moby, he was only a year younger than Moby was. He recognized the Kingsley family name, and he recognized Moby. He knew Moby was incapable of magic - rumors did have a nasty way of spreading, after all - and he said he'd be pleased to return Moby to his family for a handsome reward. He first managed to catch Moby off-guard and scored a hit on Moby's cheek, leaving a very large wound that would eventually scar over into the massive scar on his right cheek. The guards surrounded him after that and Moby blacked out.

He woke up in chains in a dingy cell and was led to a courtroom where he would be tried for attempting to steal from the Ehlm family. They were in Taranya and sitting near the front were Moby's brother and sister. They were asked if they recognized Moby and to his horror, they both said they didn't. Moby was found guilty of attempting to steal from the Ehlms and attempting to take the life of the heir, Marquis. He was thrown back in the jail cell and in a week he would be sentenced, possibly to death.

Of course, Lae certainly wouldn't stand by and let that happen to Moby. She rounded up the last of Darius' clan and several new members and prepared a ship back to the delta. She managed to help Moby escape and they sailed back to safety where Moby's wound could be treated properly. Thankfully it wasn't infected, but it did take quite a long time for it to properly scab over (and even then Moby picked at the scab because he can never keep his hands still). The owner of the boat, Victor, was impressed by the two of them and offered to help them. Victor was a pirate by night and a businessman by day, one who would become an invaluable ally for them in the future.

Wanted posters of Moby started going up depicting him with a scar. The posters weren't exactly accurate, but they were close enough that Moby couldn't leave the delta at all without being spotted and identified. He wasn't identified as a Kingsley, merely as the man who tried to murder the heir to the Ehlm family. He didn't understand why his siblings had disowned him in public like that, but he assumed it had something to do with his choice in career. Regardless, he stuck by Lae's side and the two of them formed a clan of thieves that worked together, much like the clan Darius had led.

Years passed like this and eventually Moby was able to move about more freely. He had heard rumors of the power of the queen's crown and set his sights on that. Along with his clan members, Moby moved to Taranya and spent some time stealing from the people there, preparing to take the crown itself. The crown is supposed to allow a person to harness all the elements and use them all as long as its being worn. Moby wants that power for himself and he is going to get it. Or at least, he would, but that's his current canon point, so he won't be doing that any time soon.

Moby Kingsley | Original Character | Not Reserved | 3 / 5

[personal profile] thievingly 2013-11-22 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
The first thing people notice about Moby is how laid-back he is. One would think that a thief who has been on the run for quite some time would be hard-pressed to keep his identity a secret and worry constantly about being captured. That's not how Moby handles it. Instead, he's incredibly calm about everything, never once getting worked up or upset about things. Even when things don't go his way and he ends up thrown in jail, for example, he's still cool and collected and making snide remarks about everything. Moby can't keep his mouth shut. He always has to have the last word or make some witty comment even when the situation really doesn't call for it. Despite that, he's not mean; his remarks are true but they're usually laden with sarcasm that makes it seem like he's only teasing. It's hard to tell if that's what he's doing or if he's actually trying to be mean. It really depends on the person.

Aside from being laid-back and witty, Moby's confident. In fact, he's more than that, he's over-confident. He knows that he's a great thief and good with weapons, so he'll show off given the opportunity. He lives to flaunt his skills, especially when it comes to stealing. He's a pretty well-known thief, but he'd like to increase his renown and infamy all throughout the realm instead of just in some of the larger cities. Moby's confidence often gets him in trouble; he thinks he can take on more guards then he can or he thinks he can escape without being noticed when he really can't, and thus gets him into trouble. Lae usually has to save him, but without her around, he's going to get himself in a lot more trouble than he's used to. This goes along with his laid-back personality; Moby isn't used to things not going his way.

One of the things Moby loves almost as much as stealing is flirting. He loves to make people feel good about themselves, but he also loves flustering the uptight people who don't like being flirted with. He's especially fond of the latter. He also gets pleasure from stinging pain such as minor cuts; he's a masochist who used to cut his wrists for pleasure. Moby is very playful and friendly with nearly everyone he meets, rarely getting off to a bad start with someone. He's even good with kids, playing games with them and indulging in their pasttimes. In fact, Moby seems to be a kid at heart, but there's more to him than meets the eye.

Moby's view on life is very simple: It's short, so live it up while you can. This mindset showed up after his father's death, where Moby learned that life is a very fragile thing. Ironically, Moby isn't bothered by taking lives, but this is due in part to how much of a hypocrite he really is. Moby often says one thing and does another, never practicing what he preaches. He'll tell others that stealing and killing are morally wrong, then will turn around and do both just to get some petty object he might decide he likes. He's very difficult to pin down in that regard because it's very difficult to tell just what he'll say or do next. Not even those who know him very well know what he's going to do next. He loves being unpredictable, almost as much as he loves stealing.

Appearances are the most important thing to Moby. He needs everything to look just so or he'll get upset (which really means "minorly peeved" since he never really gets angry about anything). His own appearance is a big issue for Moby. He has scars on his wrists and one much larger one on his cheek; he hides the ones on his wrists under gloves, but the one on his cheek can't be hidden. He shows it off like it's a battle scar instead, saying that he got it in a fight with a notorious brigand (or he got it in a fight with one of the princess' guards, or something even more outrageous); this is an over-the-top reaction to how he really feels about his scar. He's disgusted by it and hates looking at it, though he refuses to let anyone know that. He sees that as a weakness and he certainly can't have any weaknesses, now can he? So Moby acts like his scar is the best thing since sliced bread, all while secretly loathing it and hating the way his appearance has been marred by it.

This vast difference between what Moby says and thinks doesn't just apply to his scar. Moby acts completely carefree, but in reality he's incredibly cunning and takes in every detail of his surrounding. He wouldn't be a very good thief if he didn't care at all about his surroundings or the people he's dealing with. Instead, he listens very closely and watches carefully, even when it doesn't seem like he's paying attention. He's a lot more clever than he lets on, and he's content to have people think he's an idiot. Due to his years of schooling, he's actually quite intelligent and knows more than the average person in his world thanks to the private school he was essentially raised in. He's very thankful for that, if nothing else.

This isn't to say that Moby is one of the smartest people in the realm, however. Moby is still incredibly stupid in more ways than one, usually in regards to underestimating others. His street-smarts are still lacking in certain areas and he can be blissfully naive about very important things, such as how the world works and what will get him ahead in life. He's perfectly content to be a lowly thief forever, never once considering that this lifestyle may not be able to pay the bills and keep a roof over his head. He's been very lucky thus far and has been working with Lae by his side for years, but in a new world he won't have those luxuries. He'll have to learn how to properly take care of himself, something he doesn't really know how to do.

If it wasn't obvious by now, Moby is a kleptomaniac. He has the compulsion to steal things and gets a lot of enjoyment from it. The compulsion to steal things started after his mother's death, around the time he turned seven. This compulsion hasn't faded any since then and he genuinely loves what he does. Moby's thefts are often petty, but he has set his eyes on an incredibly lofty goal: the princess' crown which is said to grant the wearer the powers of all six elements.

That brings up another good point: magic. Moby says he has no interest in magic whatsoever and to those who know him incredibly well, he says he doesn't care that he can't use it even though his siblings can. This is a lie. As usual, Moby is hiding his true feelings behind a facade of carelessness. He genuinely wants to be able to use magic and prove himself not just to his siblings, but to the world. Since he can't find a way to learn magic, he's resorted to stealing the princess' crown. Harnessing all six elements will make him nearly invincible if he uses them right, and it will grant him ultimate power. With such power, he would gladly take over the throne and finally prove that he's capable of the great things that his father said he wasn't.

Obviously Moby has some Issues to work out. Aside from these issues, he has a great fear of heights and refuses to go anywhere where he'll be up high. Even the second story of his house is too high for his liking and he sleeps on the ground floor. Moby's also afraid of death, though he tries to claim he isn't. He's the sort of person to freeze up when his fears are realized and he can't properly respond until he's either back on solid ground or out of danger. Freezing up like this obviously isn't the best response and has nearly gotten him killed in the past. He's scared that one day this will get him killed.

Finally, Moby values his freedom above everything else. He loves stealing, yes, but he would give that up entirely (or well, try to since it is a compulsion) in order to remain free. His time in prison was mostly spent pacing around and counting all the stones in his cell, trying to come up with something to do to pass the time. He can't stand small spaces either and prefers to be outdoors. He's a nature-lover at heart and genuinely does care about the environment. Speaking of things he cares about, Moby cares deeply for his clan of thieves; they're essentially his family now that his brother and sister have thrown him out. He gets attached to people very easily which could come back to bite him in the future.

There's definitely more to Moby than meets the eye, but in the end he's still a laid-back, relaxed kind of guy who genuinely enjoys what life has to offer. He's got more layers than he lets on, but he's not intentionally hiding his true self from people to hurt them. He cares deeply for those around him and would do anything to protect them (except put himself in danger, that is). He's shallow, sly, and self-centered, but he's a good guy at heart. When he's not stealing from everyone, that is.The first thing people notice about Moby is how laid-back he is.

Abilities/Powers:
Moby is a capable fighter. When he was younger he was taught how to fence using light rapiers and other swords, but he excels primarily at using smaller knives. He's a great shot and prefers picking off his target from further away, using throwing knives. Moby doesn't have any magical capabilities despite being from a bloodline that prides itself on having some of the last magic in the realm. This hinders him back home since it means that he can't rise to a position of power within the government, but there won't be any such issues here. Aside from throwing knives and swordfighting, Moby is a skilled thief who has learned how to tread quietly and quickly, striking at night and almost always getting away with whatever theft he had planned out. He's a kleptomaniac and doesn't usually plan his heists, but his skills have kept him out of trouble. He's also a capable leader despite his laid-back attitude and rarely takes a back seat to anyone when he knows what's going on. In this world he might need to stay back and watch for awhile, but that won't stop him from trying to take te lead whenever the opportunity presents itself! Finally, Moby is a capable sailor as well as a thief, and while he's not as interested in piracy as his friend Victor, Moby can maintain a very small boat on his own. He doesn't get seasick and has quite a good bit of knowledge about pirates and the ocean, though he prefers to do his thieving on land.

Sample Entry Two:
The stars were different here. That was the first thing that really hit him about this place. The stars weren't the same as they were back home. He couldn't pick out the stars for each element, something that had never happened before. He would have prayed to the god of wind for protection, but without the star in the sky to direct his prayers, Moby had no idea where he was. Was this really a different world?

It's late at night when Moby leaves his room, sneaking out past his roommates and slinking along the corridors, searching for the perfect target. He was feeling antsy, and when he's antsy, he needs to steal something. He finally settled on one of the rooms without anyone in it and slips in. They shouldn't have left their door open, but even if it had been closed he could have picked the lock. Moby examined the room for a moment before the moonlight streaming in through the window caught something shiny.

It was a pendant, circular in shape with a smooth purple stone set in it. Moby swiped it immediately and shoved it in the pocket of his shorts, sauntering out moments later. He didn't need a necklace, but he figured he could pawn it off to someone or something. It at least satisfied his need to steal something.
