Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:

Sample Entry Two:
You could always count on a cat to never actually be lost. That is to say, Len was used to odd situations, and even if the window outside showed something that would have instilled panic in others, she stared at it as if she was watching a bird fly by the window. Completely and utterly normal. Len was certainly thinking about the situation, the idea that she was some place she had never been before, and the consequences of being here but she didn't let it show. It wouldn't be right for people to see her worried since cats don’t fret. Or they don’t let other people know they’re fretting.

Once she had gotten her fill of the sign, she turned and walked outside, arms not moving from her side so, combined with her long dress, it looked like she was sliding gracefully across the floor. She had to make sure Shiki was here with her. Oh, one could hope that Shiki wasn't here but for Len, that meant the boy would go out of his way to try to get here, probably hurting himself in the process. Len wanted to make sure he was here so she could keep an eye on him before he did something stupid as opposed to not being able to reach him at all.

After peering around a corner, she knew this might be more difficult than she’d like. But she’d do her best. Nine lives, good luck, and always landing on her feet were all part of it. Her only regret was that getting a hold of cake and wine here would probably be impossible, which left her with a sinking feeling in her stomach.

Personality: It's difficult to discuss Asbel's personality without discussing how he changes over the game - so I'll start at the beginning. Asbel starts the game as an 11-year old boy, and to be frank he's a little shit. He's overconfident, he's exuberant, he's not very considerate of others at all and drags people into his messes with very little regard for the consequences. He does things without thinking and he basically thinks he's Tiny King Shit of Fuck Mountain. Even as a kid we can see how determined and driven a character he is, when he sets his mind to something; when he brings Sophie home and his dad acts as if it's ridiculous that Asbel can take care of Sophie, he says he's going to do it anyway, much to his dad's chagrin. He runs in with a wooden sword to save an overturned caravan holding the Prince of Windor, despite this being a very obviously bad choice as an 11-year old boy -- the idea of him failing at something, at not being the hero, never occurs to him.

Of course, that fails. Him and his group of babby friends and family - Hubert, Cheria, Sophie, and Richard - go exploring under Barona and accidentially awaken a horrible monster, which proceeds to nearly kill the entire group except Asbel. Asbel's the only one conscious for Sophie fighting it off, for saving all of them, and -- more importantly -- the only one conscious for when the seemingly defeated monster impales Sophie, and she dies destroying it.

Saying this affects Asbel's development is an understatement along the lines of saying "the sun is warm". Asbel's response to this is to flee Lhant and his family, his friends who feels like he's failed (especially Sophie, who now seems to be dead), and become a knight. Becoming a knight was always his dream as a kid, but there's a deeper sense of urgency for why now. It's not because "oh it'd be really cool to be a knight!", which seems to be the extent of Asbel's reasoning as a kid - now it's to protect people. He promised to protect Sophie, and failed - and unlike his friends, he had to see that. They know she died, certainly, but they weren't aware of what exactly happened, and Asbel being conscious for it and knowing he couldn't have done anything, even if he hadn't already been hurt, weighs on him heavier than anything else.

It's Sophie's death that also cuts down on that blind confidence in Asbel, and allows him to reflect and see how flawed he is, where he admits that he can't, at this point in time, protect anyone, where he's realizing that all his rash decisions didn't solve anything, that nobody's better protected now that he's a knight. It's a source of pain for him, that essentially the reason everything happened is his fault; if he hadn't insisted everyone go into the Barona catacombs, if he hadn't dragged everyone around, if he hadn't bothered Richard at all, it's very possible none of the awful things that did happen would have. And later, we see him having the capability of knowing his other flaws; he admits openly that he feels rather than thinks, and one of the reasons he needs - not "likes having around", NEEDS - some of the other party members, like Cheria and Hubert, is that somebody needs to counterbalance him. As much as he knows the importance of thinking things through, he's also self-aware enough to know that he's not going to in a time of crisis.

He's also got one other major flaw that he admits to - the total inability to gather information. Asbel is oblivious to things that happen around him. He's totally ignorant to Cheria's feelings about him that she's very obviously had for about seven years, and very frequently needs things that should have been obvious to people paying attention told to him. The important thing though, is that he's not stupid. He's very capable of making correct decisions based on information once he has the information that he needs, and we see him able to deduce things like complex puzzles in various dungeons to defeat security systems. He's the one making the calls for the party on what to do next, and almost invariably he is *correct* once he has the information, but god help you if you need him to investigate something or find shit out, because he simply... doesn't get things himself.

Of course, his intelligence isn't his greatest strength. It is that heart, that feeling. Asbel is a man who's not afraid to die for what he believes in, and not afraid to do whatever it takes for something. Sophie's death weakens it, makes him unsure of himself, and then seeing her come back and the struggle for Richard tempers it, much like a sword. As a child, he thinks he can do anything and it'll be effortless because he's the best; as an adult, he knows he can do anything, but he might have to work hard for it. And he's willing to put in that work, no matter if the task seems impossible - like saving Richard from being consumed by Lambda, a task pretty much everyone else thought was a fool's errand. He's the kind of person who, when someone's in danger, he will immediately rush to protect them without regard for his own safety, such as when one of his fellow students at the Knight Academy gets swept overboard and, while his instructors are discussing what to do, he's already leapt in, saved her, and gotten back out.

His heart also allows him to have an incredible amount of empathy for people. It's an interesting trait in conjunction with his perceptive failures, because it sometimes doesn't allow him to put himself into somebody else's shoes - but when it does, it's a powerful thing, and allows Asbel to sympathize and understand people who are his enemies in a way that nobody else in the group can. It's Asbel who's horrified when Lambda Richard cuts down Cedric even though doing so is somewhat understandable - partially because it seems (and is) out of character for a non-Lambda Richard to do, but partially because even if that were totally normal for Richard to do, Asbel can empathize with other people. It's the same way he does to save Malik, because he understands that Malik genuinely thought he was doing the right thing (and may have been) by rebelling against Richard. And, most importantly, Asbel is able to empathize with Lambda in a way that nobody else - not even Cheria, who's incredibly empathetic herself - can. He's able to understand Lambda's pain, understand *why* Lambda is destroying everything, and understand that Lambda is not inherently evil but a product of its environment - and with that confidence is able to absorb Lambda without letting it control his body, because he doesn't just *think* that Lambda isn't a bad creature; he knows it, fundamentally, the same way a person knows the sun will come up each morning.

More than anything else, though, Asbel believes in the bonds between people. It's most obvious in the way he acts towards Richard and Sophie, the two who he made a friendship pact with on Lhant Hill. Most people might not put stock into a pact made when you were 11, but Asbel takes it very seriously, and still considers Richard a true friend even when he's flying around and absorbing eleth and basically dooming the world. Everyone else's concern (except for Sophie) is "how do we stop Richard"? for a long time; Asbel's concern is "why is he doing this?" and "what's happening to Richard?" Most other people, somewhat understandably, are concerned about the consequences for the world, but Asbel's deeper concern is why, because if Richard's doing this something must be wrong with Richard, and he needs to help his friend -- no matter what.

He views his friendship with Sophie even more seriously than he does with Richard, which is saying a lot considering how much he cares about Richard. Sophie's one of the most important people in the world to him, arguably THE most important, and much of his time is spent making sure that she's okay, making sure that she's learning about the world and that she's safe no matter what. When Sophie gets seriously damaged by Lambda, Asbel's immediate concern is making sure that Sophie is alright and that they fix her no matter what, and the idea that this means going off into space to a world that they know literally nothing about doesn't faze him at all. He would walk barefoot to the ends of the earth if it meant ensuring Sophie was safe, and it's Asbel who completely freaks out when Sophie keeps insisting that she needs to be the one to destroy Lambda, especially after it's revealed that she'd need to die to destroy Lambda. Even before Asbel can empathize with and understand Lambda, he simply won't allow Sophie to destroy Lambda because he won't let her die, no matter what. Seeing her "die" when he was young made him sure, more than anything else in the world, that he'd never, EVER let that happen again.

Family's also a very important aspect to Asbel. After Sophie's death, Hubert gets adopted off to the Oswell family of Strahta, and they don't see each other until Strahta rolls up to Lhant - and their first meeting is, well, awkward considering that Asbel knows basically nothing about what happened (remember: Asbel's got like zero perception to things that happen around him) and Hubert regards Asbel as a little shit who abandoned everything selfishly for his stupid dream of becoming a knight (remember: Hubert didn't see Sophie get impaled). They're able to get over their differences, though, and while Asbel probably wouldn't admit it immediately he's very proud of his little brother and how far he's come in Strahta, even if it's sort of Asbel's doing (a key reason in Hubert trying so hard in Strahta being that Hubert thought Asbel was a screwup). He takes other family members seriously too - he cares a lot about his mother, even if he does get tired of things like her telling him to get married until he finally acknowledges he's gonna marry Cheria and have like five billion babies, and goes out of his way to help her. He also holds his late father in high regard too, and many of his decisions in Lhant are made with the thought of "What would Dad do?" He realizes what a little shit he was when he was a kid, and understands as an adult that his father was trying to do what was right, and understands that as lords go, Aston was pretty damn good at the whole lord thing.

It's not just his own biological family that Asbel cares about, but the family he's going to have, too. Asbel actually formally adopts Sophie as his daughter and, even prior to that, was basically treating her like a combination of daughter and younger sister. It's pretty clear that the bond they have is something beyond just friendship, and it's important to him to make a place for her in his life beyond just friend. And of course, there's his relationship with Cheria - while it's never directly stated by either Asbel or Cheria in game, by the end of the game it's pretty well understood that Cheria is functioning as the mother to Asbel's father for Sophie. It's certainly the way Sophie sees it, saying so directly more than once during the game, and while it takes him forever and a day to figure it out, Cheria's the other priority in his life and he sees her as family - not as a sister, like he (stupidly) implies in one of his victory quotes, but as a wife.

And Asbel, unlike a lot of other people, bonds very quickly. He makes some decisions that may seem sort of foolish at the time, but Asbel just generally believes that people are good, or that when they're not good, there's a reason they're not good; that people aren't just Inherently Evil. People can do bad things, but it's rare that he rarely sees them as just inherently bad; even Emeraude, who is pretty objectively an awful person, Asbel empathizes with because he understands that there were reasons for the decisions she made, even if he completely disagrees with her methods. This is most of the reason that Pascal and Malik are in the group; with Malik it's more understandable, given that Malik was Asbel's instructor for that seven-year span between Sophie's death and the start of the main story, but Pascal is literally just "some weird girl who offers to help them out" and Asbel's just like Oh! Sure! You can come along! And keep coming along! Hubert points out how dumb this is, and he's probably right in an objective sense, but Asbel's feeling that people are fundamentally good isn't swayed by Hubert's logical arguments.

Asbel is a hero. He's not the most perceptive hero and if he had to do the heroing on his own, he'd be looking for clues while the apocalypse was happening. But he's brave - the only thing he fears are his own self-doubts - and he's kind, even if he's sometimes accidentially an asshole (because of his poor perception.) He'll protect the weak and defend those who need it, and he'll go even further than seems possible for those who cares about as friends and family. He empathizes with pretty much everyone that he can, and even if he doesn't immediately do so, has shown he's very capable of understanding other people's pain and suffering and why they do what they do. He doesn't believe in evil; he believes in "people who are misguided". He might have his issues, but ultimately, he just wants everyone to be safe, and happy, and for there to be peace - no matter what it costs him, or what he has to do to ensure it, and we get to see him grow from "arrogant little shit" to "oblivious protector of all".

Abilities/Powers: Asbel is almost exclusively a physical combatant on the battlefield. He doesn't really have many support abilities, basically relying exclusively on KILLING THE BAD MANS; he hits fast and he hits hard, attacking with kicks, sheathed sword strikes (because Asbel), and unsheathing his sword for more dangerous/stronger abilities. He seems to pretty capable with any type of sword, as long as it also comes with a sheath; presumably he could fight without one too, but his style seems to be based around mixing all three types of attacks up. A list of his artes/attacks can be found here.

In addition, Asbel has a creature known as Lambda sealed inside of him. 99.9% of the time, this is going to do nothing, but in times of serious danger, where Asbel may be very immediately about to die, Lambda has been known to intervene. What Lambda can do exactly hasn't been specified, but we know he's able to bring up barriers and give Asbel the ability to strike enemies in such a way that it completely paralyzes them. Most of the time, though, Lambda will just chill.
Items/Weapons: Asbel will be keeping a sword, Disintegrator; a scabbard, Grimm Scabbard; and some armor, the Jade Vestments. Dude's gotta keep his stuff with him.
Sample Entry: Sample 1 and Sample 2!
Sample Entry Two: Asbel Lhant was never the kind of person who just sat around doing nothing. Being the Lord of Lhant, being a father (well, "father"), saving the world not once but twice - none of these had made him settle down. He never got tired of doing something, and sitting still simply -- wasn't him. Which is why, this time, he'd wandered out into the woods in Lhant mostly because... well, he was bored, paperwork was done, and Sophie was off visiting Richard over in Barona so he didn't need to go all fatherly/big brother/family-ly on her, and Cheria hadn't come back yet from relief work. So it was just him, a sword, and his own thoughts.

Things were better now. Hubert and Pascal well... well, okay, they were probably going to get married someday. It was an event Asbel looked forward to for a couple reasons - partially because it's always nice to see his little brother happy, partially because honestly they needed to anyway (because now even Asbel, king of lack of awareness, could see how bad and yet perfect they were for each other), and partially because any formal event that involved Pascal would almost certainly prove to be entertaining. It was weird, thinking about it - how she'd gone from "some weird girl Sophie found sleeping under a tree" to "almost definitely going to be my sister-in-law".

He didn't get to see Malik as often - he didn't have as much of a reason to visit Malik, but it was nice seeing the old Captain again. They had a certain bond - something more than just teacher and student. He wasn't exactly a surrogate father, because that would be attaching too close of a family bond. Sophie called him "grandpa", but no, that wasn't right. Maybe something like an uncle or one of those older cousins. He'd always have a great deal of respect for Malik and what he went through.

And Cheria. Not that he'd admit it to anyone but Sophie, but Asbel was... well, of two minds about Cheria, in wanting her to get everything settled and do everything she wanted to do before she came back, and at the same time, wanted her to come back right away. It's ruminiating about her, about wanting to see her and maybe hold her hand and eat her cooking and be a family, that... well, hold that thought, because it's the one time in history that Asbel's noticed something.

His eyes fell upon what looked to be splashes of red - blood, maybe? - coating the ground, and in typical Asbel Lhant Hero Fashion, he was immediately looking around for the source. A trail led him onward through the forest, past trees and over rocks and into encounters with monsters (which Asbel had very little trouble dispatching). The delays were frustrating, as were the times when he lost the trail, because he knew someone might need his help, someone might be in danger--!

The trail led to a small shack, and there were weird noises coming from inside. Of course Asbel didn't stop and think about the problem, because then he would be Hubert; instead, he immediately ran towards the door, smashed right into it with a shoulder, threw it off its hinges, and found--

An old guy throwing paint at a canvas aggressively. Red paint.

Awkward. Asbel stared for a few seconds, like a deer caught in headlights, and the man turned to him. Yep. Lord of Lhant just sorta smashin' through your door, buddy. You know how it is.

Personality:
Boiled down to a just a few words, Cheria is kind and nurturing. Even at the age of eleven, this much is quite evident; when they were kids, she looked after Hubert and Asbel and did her best to keep them out of trouble. Of course, that is a very difficult task, when it comes to Asbel Lhant; there was no reining him in, the little shit. And it speaks volumes for her character that she cares for them as much as she did, as she herself was very ill as a child and needed to be taken care of more than anyone else. As Sophie puts it later, "Cheria was sick... but that didn't stop her from being cheerful and friendly." And her childhood was pretty sad: Asbel would constantly leave her behind because she was sickly, and even though his intentions were good, it still hurt her to be left out all the time. And then, after she finally gets to be friends with four other kids and hang out with them and be a normal kid, Sophie has to sacrifice herself to save their lives. After that, she can't see Richard because he's a prince, and Hubert gets sent away to be adopted by the Oswells, which leaves just her and Asbel — who then runs away and leaves Lhant to become a knight, leaving her all alone for seven years.

And even after those lonely seven years, she doesn't change very much. The cheerful and friendly aspect of her character fizzles for a little bit, because she's bitter about Asbel abandoning her, but once they make amends, she bounces right back to the same girl she'd always been. She completely embraces the role of Team Mom, taking care to prepare meals for everyone and make sure they're eating right and taking care of themselves — she even goes as far as reminding Sophie and Pascal to bathe and brush their teeth. She does her best to keep things running smoothly, both in practical matters like keeping the group's inventory organized, and in personal issues as well, acting as something akin to the group mediator and making sure everyone is happy and getting along. This, in addition to her occasionally short temper, causes her to come across as something of a nag, but it's still rather obvious that she cares for her friends and their well-being. She just doesn't take anyone's shit. Sophie, especially, receives this motherly treatment, as Cheria is essentially the mother to Asbel's father. She's more than happy to take on this role; she even gets all giggly and happy when Asbel refers to her as "Mom." But it's not just because of her relationship with Asbel that she acts as Sophie's parent — she really, genuinely cares for her like a daughter, expressing that she would happily stay on Fodra if it meant that she would be healthy again. If it's a question of priorities, her main priority is Sophie, period.

So it's safe to say that family is very, very important to her. After losing her parents at a young age, she cares a lot for the family that she has left — her grandfather, especially, and her friends. The idea of "friends are the family you choose" is especially poignant to her, all things considered. It's not just her companions that she tends to, however. Since discovering her healing powers, she's dedicated herself to helping anyone and everyone she can, completely without bias. No matter what, she will not hesitate to help a person in need. Although Raymond had her abducted in order to blackmail Asbel, when he stabs himself later, she immediately sets about healing him without so much batting an eye. It doesn't matter what he did to her; he needed her help, so she gave it. Selflessness is the name of her game: everyone else's feelings and well-being are always, always prioritized before her own.

Though many see her as an ~angel~, due to her healing skills and gentle personality, Cheria is far from perfect, of course. She's insecure. She is seen fretting over her weight and her hair on multiple occasions, seeking validation from others and quietly freaking out when her hair gets frizzy or she thinks that she might be gaining weight. It's not just her appearance that she worries about, though, but also her feelings. Especially her feelings about Asbel. Even though everyone else in the party (aside from the man himself, for a good, long while, because Asbel is Asbel) knows that she's in love with him, she vehemently denies it whenever the issue is brought up and gets really flustered. In Strahta, when they all lick the salt to find out who among them is a liar, she quietly freaks out when it tastes sweet to her and awkwardly tries to change the subject. No one must ever know the truth!! And it's not just because she's embarrassed that she hides her feelings, but also because she can't tell how Asbel feels about her, even though everyone else can, because they're both kind of stupid about this. That doesn't make her love him any less, but she continues to try and bury her feelings (even though she's not subtle about it at all), rather than risk ruining their friendship or distracting herself from more important things. They're on a mission to save the world, after all, and as selfish as it makes her feel, she has still has things she wants to do (specifically, her relief work) before she settles down.

Even though she's not very good about Asbel's feelings or her own, she is still pretty perceptive. On their way to the Fendel heat cannon, she notices that Malik missed a spot shaving and concludes that he must be nervous. She can also be very sympathetic — she and Asbel, for instance, are the only ones who sympathize with Emeraude and her wish to restore life to Fodra, despite the fact that she did some pretty terrible things. She'd been forced into doing those things because it was an awful situation all around, which, to them, is a pitiful thing. In addition to being observant to others' feelings, she's also very careful about them. When Hubert suggests that their team should include himself, Cheria, and Asbel when they're fighting monsters (because the light they possess is the most effective against them), Cheria wants to keep that a secret so as not to hurt or offend the others.

And her insecurity isn't just worrying about the way others perceive her, but the fact that she has very high expectations of herself. After being sick for her entire childhood, and then receiving a Miracle Cure thanks to Sophie, she's determined to become stronger and make up for the fact she was never able to do anything before. She pushes herself past her limits, to the point that she ignores her own well-being — when she falls ill with a cold, she stubbornly brushes it off and tells herself to be strong, because there's so much to do!

Near the end of the future arc, Lambda tells her that "few know the preciousness of life as [she does]," and it is a startingly accurate summation of her character. While she derives a lot of happiness from helping people in need, she would happily give it all up and lose her job with the relief organization if it meant that things were peaceful again, because she cares for other people above all else. Not just her friends, although she depends on them a lot and derives her strength from them, but literally everyone. It's this kindness and selflessness that not only make her a perfect match for Asbel, but a truly angelic figure in the midst of the war and strife that Ephinea suffers.

As her role in battle is more support than offense, Cheria is not much of a physical fighter, but she can hold her own in a fight! Her weapons of choice are throwing daggers, which allow her to remain mobile during combat and keep her distance. For the most part, though, she relies on her powerful artes, which primarily consist of healing magic and holy offensive spells, as well as a few buffs to boost her allies' stats.

A list of her artes can be found here.

    Hello, Haven.

[Cheria isn't much of a public speaker. Not that she's bad at talking to people, not at all, but she's not a leader like Asbel or a respected military figure like Hubert and Malik, and she certainly isn't as outspoken as, say, Pascal. But this is important, so she'll smile and muddle through.]

We're clearly in a lot of danger here, so before things go south again, I want to put together some kind of relief effort. There are a lot of us here, so it doesn't have to be too complicated; just a directory of people who can help, an inventory of available supplies... anything that can help.

I just want everyone here to be able to get help as soon as they need it. We're all stuck here together, after all, so sooner anyone who's been injured gets the treatment they need, the better off we all are. So if you have any healing abilities, any knowledge in first aid, supplies to spare — or even if you just want to help, that's great! Just let me know.

My name is Cheria, and you can come see me in my apartment, if you wish. [She trails off, a little awkwardly as she realizes she's kind of been rambling, and smiles brightly.] Thanks, everyone.
    Sample Entry Two:
The light that emanates from Cheria's hands is warm and soothing; more so, naturally, to the person actually being healed, but it's a pleasant feeling regardless. That she is able to help others, after being left behind, being the person who needed that help for so long, is refreshing. When she was a frail little girl lying in bed because she'd overexerted herself chasing after Asbel, she never expected that she would be the one tending to others' hurts and ailments, rather than the other way around.

It's but one thing that she enjoys about her relief work. It's rewarding, and she enjoys traveling all over Ephinea; to Barona and Richard, to Strahta and Hubert, to Fendel and Malik and Pascal. Though she and her companions have gone their separate ways since their journey — for good this time — she can still stay in contact with those people most important to her. ... Even if some of those people like to give her meaningful looks and waggle their eyebrows whenever the topic of conversation turns to Asbel.

Asbel. The thought of him makes her cheeks flush and her chest tighten, and it's enough to almost make her think that her illness had never been healed. But this is a different sensation, a sweet sort of pain, different from the wracking coughs that had so often left her bedridden for days on end. No, this is excitement and longing and happiness — and, dare she even think it, love.

And, you see, Cheria is of two minds about her relief work.

On one hand, she'd like to continue to travel and help whoever she can. Sophie had blessed her with this healing power, after all, and it feels... wrong, almost, to let that go to waste. But on the other hand, there's a part of her, a much bigger part of herself than she would like to admit, that wants to finish her relief work as soon as possible and return to Lhant. Now, unlike, all those years ago, Asbel is the one waiting for her. Sophie, too. But as much as she would like to go home and really, officially become a part of their family, and take care of them and cook them all of their favorite foods, she still does have her priorities. More important than her own selfish little wants, there are things yet to do, people who still need help...

    "Miss Cheria?"

A small voice jerks her out of her reverie, brings her back to reality: a young boy, no older than ten or eleven, who'd been severely wounded in one of the recent monster attacks. Despite that, even after suffering through an infection and a whole lot of pain, he'd never failed to greet her with a smile whenever she stopped by to tend to his wounds.

The light fades away as she lowers her hands. "There. How does that feel?"

The boy shifts around experimentally, pushing himself to an upright position. After a moment, he seems to decide that he's satisfied, and he rewards Cheria with a winning smile.

"Better than ever!" he declares, and in one swift, sudden movement, he reaches out and pulls her into a tight hug. "Thanks a lot, Miss Cheria. I'll be as good as new in no time, thanks to you."

For a moment, Cheria only blinks and stares down at the small child, holding onto her as though he might fall off the edge of the world if he were to let go. It isn't long before she gingerly wraps her own arms around him, hugging him back and resting her chin on the top of his head, and she smiles.

    "You're welcome," she says softly.

And in that moment, she can't regret her decision to stay with the relief organization. As much as she misses home, as much as she longs to fulfill all the promises that await her there, she wouldn't give up moments like this for anything in the world.

    Personality:
If there's a constant that always rings true for Okita Souji, it's that his personality is not one that is easily pinned down or figured out. In meeting him, it's easy to get the impression that he doesn't like you - maybe that he doesn't like anyone. He'll smile with cold, teasing eyes and toss around death threats in the way that most would offer reassurances. While that's true at the very surface, there's so much more that lies beneath.

"If there's someone who decides fate, he must've hated me a lot."

Okita was given his cynicism at a young age, the result of the death of his parents and semi-abandonment of his sister (the result of her getting married and being unable to care for him). And while most would have showed an inkling of sadness as he was left in the hands of Kondou Isami and the Shieikan, Okita remained serious and secluded. Unable to grasp the worth of his own life or existence, he simply didn't care. He claimed he wasn't lonely, that he didn't miss his sister because she abandoned him. This event in and of itself caused Souji to close his heart off to others, going as far as to believe he wasn't good-natured enough to believe in a sister that deserted him. No, he quickly became more interested in proving others around him wrong. So what, his parents died? His sister left? He's in the hands of a man who was a complete idealist and often didn't seem to understand the ramifications of his actions when dealing with children? The other pupils of the Shieikan bully him?

None of that matters. Not in the typical sense, to Souji. He had one need, and that was to prove that he wasn't just some pathetic or pitiable kid. He didn't want or need that in the slightest - at least, that was what he thought. So in addition to the training he was receiving at the Shieikan, he let the kids hit him - he did it to learn their moves, to learn how to dodge, avoid, and strike back in a way that would prove that he didn't need their pity, nor their praise. Just to prove that he was capable all on his own. When he did so - during a practice match with the older pupils... that was the beginning of Souji's transformation. Kondou proved to Souji at that time that his warmth wasn't just words said to appease him, but a genuine feeling of affection. He'd never experienced that for Kondou at all, and it opened his eyes to a purpose for his life. He wanted to see Kondou happy. He wanted to exist to protect him, to be useful to him.

Souji's love and devotion to Kondou is completely unparalleled in every sense of the word. From that point in his childhood until Kondou's death many years later, nobody was to speak ill of Kondou in his presence. Really, his feelings border on yandere a lot of the time. The first person he killed was someone in their ranks, who'd planned to kill Kondou. He bloodied his hands for that sake, and did so with no regrets. Even in later times, he went as far as making a child cry after they insulted Kondou (this is not the only reason for this particular situation, however). There is absolutely nobody more important in Souji's life than Kondou, and he has no issue in expressing how important his commander and older brother figure truly is.

”There are things more fearsome than killing... such as not being needed by anyone."

It's the very human aspect of things in life that Souji has the most difficult time grasping. Growing up when peaceful times were coming to an end, living in a dojo, and being around violence on a near constant basis jaded him further on top of his mounting cynicism. Not only was he protected and watched by Kondou, but also by Kondou's right-hand, Hijikata Toshizou. This isn't without its merits, but caused many problems for Souji; Hijikata's tendency to be firm in conjunction with his protectiveness was stifling to Souji. Combine that with how much Kondou relied on Hijikata, and Souji could feel very little else but jealousy.

Having worth and purpose is not something Souji has an easy time with. If he couldn't be useful to Kondou, what use was he at all? As things grew and changed, relationships shifted and Souji was left with a deep loneliness that he hid from the world. It was easy enough for him to mask: flippant attitudes, a lot of teasing (bordering on sadistic at times -- such as forcing Nagakura to drink way too much in order to get a confession out of him). It was hard to get a grasp on what he was thinking or feelings, which was how he liked it. At the beginning of his time with the Roshigumi, though, his feelings and displaced beliefs began to spill over. His jealousy of Hijikata's relationship with Kondou often ended in vitriolic words (all laced with a smile, of course). He had his outbursts, his desire to be needed. He even allowed Serizawa Kamo manipulate him a bit in order to ultimately get what he wanted — the opportunity to kill and be useful to Kondou. But once Souji made his first kill, it was as if he'd lost his sense of humanity. His understanding of the value of human life isn't one that comes easily. After an incident involving a group of insulting sumo wrestlers (in which he and Serizawa fought, while the others tried to avoid bloodshed), Souji couldn't understand at first what he'd done wrong. Kondou reprimanding him intensely left him completely bewildered.

So much so that he felt that his only way to make up for what he'd done with involve committing seppuku. He'd messed up, he believed - violated the code of Bushido, disgraced the Roshigumi. Everything was wrong, but he still didn't really have an understanding - even if he began to grasp of other's lives, he didn't see the value in his own. Laden with self-deprecation, he still wasn't sure what his purpose in life was. The entirety of his time before the formation of the Shinsengumi was riddled with Souji's troubles.

"If you try to escape, we'll kill you."

By the time Chizuru comes to live with the Shinsengumi, it seems more as if Okita has found his place. His rebellious recklessness has calmed into something more controlled. His heart is still very closed off to others, but he seems to have a better sense of self and the value of life around him. It doesn't stop him from killing, though only when necessary -- however, he's very quick to make jokes regarding killing, which is easy to perceive as a lack of appreciation for life. He does this as commonly as Chizuru, maybe even more so than he did with Ibuki; it reaches a point where even Chizuru knows that what he's saying is in jest.

Despite this, his relationship with all of the Shinsengumi members is very distinct. There is a deep trust that he has with his comrades. For all of his jealousy of Hijikata (which comes out in his pleasant-sounding but venomous words very often -- "Isn't that your job as the demon commander?" and other similar statements), they are nothing short of being just like brothers. Only in a relationship like that can Souji recite all of Hijikata's terrible haiku (which he memorized) and live to see another day. Kondou is always on a pedestal for Souji, which never changes. Even Saitou isn't immune to Souji's influence. They're often seen together, whether it's practicing in the courtyard, cooking, or caring for injured cats named after their commander (courtesy of Souji, of course); even the way they can fight in unison on patrol together is very telling of the bond they share. His bond with Nagakura, Harada and Heisuke isn't as prevalent - though there is plenty of teasing and ribbing that goes on amongst them, and they all worry for each other when one is injured.

There are also the two other big players in his relationship with others: Cats and children. During his time in the Shinsengumi, namely at the Yagi house, Souji would often play with the neighborhood children (including Yagi's sons). There were times he'd pay less attention to his own duties so he could play hide-and-seek (much to the chagrin of Sannan and Hijikata both). In a time of bloody war and massacre, he seems to get great joy out of playing the role of "Sou-chan," the not-so-scary guy that can give the kids a fun time. It's not until he gets sick that he acts unnecessarily cruel (much in the way he may act towards 一 of his fellow Shinsengumi captains) as a means to try and push them away. After a particularly cruel moment, a child runs away crying: while he explains to Chizuru it's because they were disrespecting Kondou, he also mumbles out that "at least they won't come here anymore," almost as if he was protecting them from the increasingly dangerous headquarters as well as his highly infectious disease.

Souji can be analytical, namely with the people who are around him. Though he doesn't always understand the politics of their situation - after all, he's more of a loyalist to Kondou than the shogunate when it comes down to it - he can read people very well. Like the others in the Shinsengumi, he didn't like Itou, he never truly forgave Serizawa for his treatment and disrespect of Kondou, and every encounter with Nagumo Kaoru left him cautious. He's more interested in the fight than the result, and he's always willing to put his life on the line to fight for what he does believe in.

"Whether my life is long or short, there are only a few things I can do. To kill those who oppose the Shinsengumi is all I want to do. Especially if I'm dying. Should I spend the time I have doing that?"

Never giving up on those principles is something that is consistent for Souji. After being diagnosed with tuberculosis, he still refused to give up, despite knowing he was just given a death sentence. He vehemently opposed leaving the Shinsengumi, stating outright that his life has no purpose without fighting for and alongside the Shinsengumi. So long as he could stand - so long as he could wield a sword, he would fight. He'd say it over and over, even after hacking a lung up full of blood. "I can still fight." Giving in to disease was not an option, nor was telling anyone else. When Chizuru overheard, he immediately called her out to establish two things: That he wouldn't give in, and not to tell the others. That desire to not be pitied still lingered from his childhood in every respect. He went as far as trying to laugh off his disease as a joke in order to prevent her from worrying.

Even when he wasn't being pitied, he still felt as if he was being left behind, though. Those feelings from a few years earlier were resurfacing as his ability to fight rapidly diminished. But his will, his desire to fight, to live for his cause couldn't be stopped. When things got bad, he could barely stand, let alone hold a sword... and that was when he had to make a decision. It was either give up - be killed by a fight he couldn't win and let the disease kill him, or become a monster to protect the things that were important to him (which included not only the Shinsengumi, but now Chizuru as well, who'd become part of their ranks over the course of time unofficially). With the promise his tuberculosis would be cured, he drank the Ochimizu - a liquid that could turn man in a vampire-demon like creature called a Rasetsu. In doing so, he lost a piece of his humanity. Gaining a lust for blood as his chemical makeup changed was something that altered Okita's personality permanently.

He was able to stand and fight again, even coughing less -- though it did not actually cure his tuberculosis, which would slowly kill him alongside the power of the Rasetsu, which draws from one's life force in order to give extra power, endurance and heightened healing. He didn't think it mattered though: He was longer human. He was a monster. Prior to this, he'd told Chizuru not to be involved with him; Souji knew all along about his own instabilities, insecurity, and true lack of a decent moral compass made him a bad person to be around. Or so he thought. But the one thing even Souji couldn't predict was how Chizuru would crawl into his heart and change everything.

"This feeling... It feels like my heart's about to break, but... I'm happy?"

Cracking Souji's shell and getting into his heart is difficult. The aforementioned need to push people away, to prove people by his own means and find himself is something that's hard to get past. He's stubborn, he's an asshole, he's full of snark and he will absolutely not hesitate to troll you if the opportunity arises. Even when someone starts to crack the surface, he can't really stop the cocky statements ("You're saying I'm so damn good-looking that you've gone and fallen in love?"). But what it all boils down to is that Okita Souji needs someone or something to protect. Those who make their way into his heart will get nothing but determination and loyalty from him.

If taking his lover's route, this is plainly obvious. He goes through absolutely every length he can to stay with Chizuru and protect her. But what's more surprising that that is the revelation of how gentle his heart is underneath that cold, uninterested exterior. Everything from his means of protecting her to the way he holds her and confesses his feelings proves that in the big scheme of things, the one thing Souji really needed in his life was someone who could see through him. Kondou and Hijikata, while both caring with their best intent, never saw eye-to-eye with him on certain things. They never understood how deep his feelings were and how his intentions affected his every last action. Chizuru never fell for it, though. She pushed him to his limits, forcing him to understand himself and in turn allow her to understand him as well.

And really, for a guy with so much blood on his hands, for having a reputation of being of of those most vicious guys in the Shinsengumi, he's a real softy underneath it all. Fully knowing his time with Chizuru was limited to the remainder of his life force, he gave up fighting and left with her to be in a place where they could live peacefully. "I love you so much. So you’ve gotta believe this next part…Even if we get separated someday, my heart will always belong to you." What a sap. Though his canon point will not necessarily reflect this softer side of him, it still lies there, waiting for the right moment to be revealed.

    Abilities/Powers:
At his point in canon, Okita has the power of Rasetsu, something akin to a cross between a demon and a vampire. When using the abilities of Rasetsu, his eyes turn red, his hair turns white, and two things happen to him. The first is increased power and speed, and is inhuman in the sense that it's of a demon's capacity, but not completely infallible. It puts him on par with the pure-blooded demons of his canon, but even humans with exceptional fighting skills (given Okita's excellent skill in battle to begin with) could take him down. The other is accelerated healing, which can heal any wounds near-instantly, unless the weapon that causes the injury is made from silver.

There are drawbacks to the use of his abilities, however. A direct blow to the heart is deadly, regardless of the type of weapon used. In addition, the use of the abilities is drawn from his own life force, therefore using it in excess comes with shortening of his life span; when it’s completely used up, he will turn to dust and cease to exist. Though it can heal wounds, it cannot cure illnesses, which is problematic in a sense for Okita. Having tuberculosis, it’s reversed and greatly slowed the deterioration of his health. When he drank the ochimizu, he was bedridden and barely able to stand, and only about a half a year away from the point where he died historically. Afterwards, he was able to fight and act as normal, even telling people he was cured (though he knew we wasn’t).

The final, and most notable effect of becoming a Rasetsu is bloodlust. The vampiric tendencies happen every so often, causing him to automatically shift into that form. Not consuming blood causes him a great deal of pain and discomfort, though it will eventually pass. Each successive instance of bloodlust increases the desire and need for it though, making it one of his greatest weaknesses.

Two swords; a katana and a wakizashi
Small pouch; filled about halfway with money

    Sample Entry: sample thread

    Sample Entry Two:
The dampness in the air sent a chill straight down his spine as he quietly slid the door open and stepped onto the engawa. Winter had crept up on him quickly this year, hadn’t it? It seemed as if it was only days ago that the humid, oppressive heat of summer had weighed heavily on his chest. Yet, now it was the cold that sat sharply in his lungs. The realization had sunk in rather abruptly — things had been worse this year than the previous ones, even by his own standards.

One cold after another, leaving him nearly incapacitated, unable to patrol — unable to do all of things he set out to do. He couldn’t protect anyone that way, and Okita knew that to his very core. His fingers clasped tightly around the hilt of his katana, eyes narrowing at the scenery that surrounded him.

"Ha. Hahaha…" A soft rumble of self-deprecating laughter erupted from his throat after a moment, defeat taking the forefront. It wasn’t as if he couldn’t see the terrible irony that surrounded his situation. Souji had willingly given up his humanity in a sad and desperate attempt at clinging to life a little bit longer. Even if it meant he was only going to prolong the inevitable, he wanted to hold on until he could accomplish what little he set out to do.

Would he even be able to do that? He didn’t know. Surely, the effects of the ochimizu had their benefits, though it seemed that lately, it did very little for masking the still present tuberculosis he wished to mask. Somehow, with the use of evasion and crafty wordplay and timing, he’d prevented any excessive worry — or even knowledge, that he was aware of — relating to it. But that couldn’t hold it off forever. Funny, how something so potent could also be so useless.

But perhaps this wasn’t time for that. The bare laughter subsided, but he opted to remain where he was, only taking a seat. It sent another chill through him, of course; The near-freezing wooden planks could easily be felt through his clothing. Still, Souji didn’t make any attempt to move, or even find something warmer to wear. It would only get colder as the sun lowered in the sky and daylight gave way to the moon’s glow, but he didn’t care. He had little appetite to sit and eat, and frankly, he wasn’t sure he was much in the mood to deal with the impending interrogation that would follow.

It always ended this way, with his gaze fixated on sky. Alone. Quietly pondering and contemplating. At least, that was how it seemed, though the vague memory of a time before he acted this way had a familiar warmth to it. He still kept a close eye on his comrades, of course, but that didn’t stop him from spacing, edging a distance between himself and everyone else.

Necessary, he believed it to be. And that was okay, because he still had nights like this, where the roar of laughter, bickering, and general rowdiness from the nearby rooms was in earshot. At this rate, he’d be gone soon, right? So it was for the best.

Re: Noel Vermillion | BlazBlue | Reserved

    [personal profile] ladyskye 2013-10-10 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Abilities/Powers: Despite her small demeanor, Noel is not to be taken lightly when on the battlefield. Being able to summon and wield her weapon Bolverk, a pair of magical large-barrel handguns that can take on other forms, it’s as though she becomes an entirely different person when she fights. The clumsiness most knew her for now gone, the quick, stylized movements she dishes out during a fight make it seem as though she were almost dancing—a “bullet dance,” the style could be pinned as (except most know it as “gunkata”). She may be small, but her agility and frame is a frequent advantage of hers and, yet again, not to be taken lightly.

And then there’s her other power.

In the story, Noel plays a huge role in the fate of her world. Because of her actions, she singlehandedly destroyed a timeloop that had been plaguing the world hundreds upon hundreds of times: the “Calamity Trigger.” She comes to be known as the Eye of the Azure. What is the Azure, you might ask? You could compare its power and the desire in which people have to seek out that power with other super-powered artifacts from different universes (i.e...idk, the Triforce). It is the ultimate power in Noel’s world.

Becoming the “Eye” means a number of things—some we are still not even aware of. It does mean, however, that Noel is now the successor to this power and that there is a chance that simply touching others grants her the ability to see the memories of the individual she laid her hands on. There is also a very good chance that because of these powers Noel has even become an immortal. Despite all this, she has yet to come into full control of these powers…

    Items/Weapons: Arcus Diabolus: Bolverk!
Sample Entry: City of Ariel Test Drive (sfw!!)
    Sample Entry Two:
She was with her friend before she woke up, she remembered.

Somewhere far away from Kagutsuchi, finally, after what a few weeks felt like a lifetime of memories — and that was only the beginning. Mister Jubei had already warned her as much, offered to hide her someplace safe once upon a time, but she had refused the offer. It scared Noel a little, of course. The dangers, the hardships, the unforgiving truth that still hung over her head, like a wound that kept reopening if she thought about it enough.

What hurt the most, though, was remembering Tsubaki. Tsubaki, her friend, gentle blue eyes turned an angry crimson as they bore down her, down Major Kisaragi down in the Sheol Gates way back then — a completely different person, taken and to be used by the very same people that had used her.

That was why she had to continued fighting. Why she would push back the little fears that tugged at her. She and Makoto; together, they would make a difference. They would save her.

Noel was with her friend, talking about something... but she couldn't remember the words. It was hard to, what with the incessant ringing, the ringing...was that an alarm clock?

    "...eh?"

Her eyes opened, and she wasn't with her friend anymore.

Canon: Super Dangan Ronpa 2 (Dangan Ronpa).
Canon Point: The end of Chapter 3, right after the trial!
Background/History: This is a wiki page on Mikan, herself./This is a wiki page on the game's background (both of these links contain MAJOR Super Dangan Ronpa 2 spoilers)!
Personality: Generally speaking, Mikan is very clumsy, fragile, and timid. Some mistake this for social anxiety, and though there is slight evidence of this in her personality, such as her perpetual self-loathing, absence of respect and pride for her body, and stuttering problem, her character mostly consists of constant apologies for pointless things that she never did wrong including "insolence," "rambling", and being too "straightforward." A key factor of how she came to be so flighty and frightened is her past.

Mikan not only had an abusive home life, but she has also mentioned that out in public others would kick her, slather mud on her, pour water on her, and even give her cigarette burns. She was basically alone; she didn't have any friends or family that were anything near nice to her. She wished to be liked so badly that she began to abuse herself for others' satisfaction.

❝To lift up the atmosphere, I would eat strange bugs; when people had no paper to write on, they’d write on my body; when borrowing money, they'd make several liabilities. I was also a dart board for their boredom... You see, I can be of help too!❞

She offers to strip her clothes for Hinata on multiple occasions when she believes he's bored or angry with her. This distorted mentality also comes from people degrading and treating her so horribly. Eventually, this act became normal and expected even from people whose intentions were not to hurt her. She states that even though she doesn't enjoy performing these stunts, she feels she has to in order to earn everybody's happiness and kindness towards her.

When she was young, nobody was there to treat the physical wounds that people gave to her on a daily basis, and so Mikan had to do it all on her own and eventually became a super high school level nurse. She cured solely for the purpose of her own injuries, but as she advanced in the medical field, she came to realize that those who were sick and ill depended on her and would actually listen to her. She was the only person who could help them. Finally, Mikan had the attention she so desperately craved.

❝If you just leave an ill or injured person alone then they will not be able to bear the pain, and if things went wrong they could die. That’s why, only the words of someone who knows the proper prescription are absolute. That is… that’s how it is?❞

Although she is seen to be consistently scared and self-conscious, it is possible for Mikan to warm up to someone, as this can be seen after generous amounts of trying to convince her that Hinata isn't going to treat her the way people in her past did all the while taking baby steps to show her that she matters. Her mindset, in terms of her severe lack of confidence, will most likely continue to live on regardless of how much support she receives.
Abilities/Powers: Mikan Tsumiki is a Super High School Level Nurse; she deals with medicine and treating physical wounds exceptionally well, and for such a young age (18), too.

She's very knowledged on these subjects, as can be proven by her random outbursts of medical-speak and the risks of injury and illness.
Items/Weapons: A box of bandages, her favorite pair of panties (I am so sorry), and a syringe filled with the flu vaccine.

This is the second time something so absurd has happened; being whisked away from the familiarity of her home and carried off to some discreet, unheard of pocket of the world... In fact, it felt like only yesterday she was brainwashed into a school life of mutual killing with her classmates.

If that was the case, shouldn't she be glad that she's been swept into a new world yet again? This place, Haven, is different; Haven is not the kind of place Mikan Tsumiki is used to. She tries to tell herself this is a good thing. Greener pastures lie ahead of her; there's nothing to worry about anymore. There's no more extreme risk of death. The sign says it's safe, right? Right. If that's the case, then why does she feel so... creeped out? This place is freaky - it's rustic and old and that sign right outside of her window is really beginning to make her more uncomfortable rather than safe. She feels bad anyway, though. Everyone on the island could still be there... waiting for their deaths.

At the very least, she won't have to worry about anybody being murdered anymore. Maybe. She's not too sure yet, this place doesn't look all that trustworthy.

Mikan squeezes her fists tight together. A thought hits her like a brick through a glass window. Maybe her friends are all here. That would certainly make sense, right? It can't just be her. It shouldn't be. It's not. Regaining a tiny sliver of hope, she meekly takes the recorder that was given to her and nervously turns it on.

    "H-Hello! I'm Mikan Tsumiki. . ."

Personality: Labrys, while under the belief that she is "Miss President," has the personality of someone who takes her position in school very seriously. She is shown to be strict, speaks roughly with her Kansai accent (localized as a Jersey accent) and is not afraid to scold others for misbehavior. Despite the dangers of the P-1 Grand Prix, she does not back down from trying to stop the tournament, despite the many attempts on her life by the Fake Teddie and Fake Rise. She is very spirited, which increases her sense of responsibility for keeping order in the school, shown how she goes ahead to confront General Teddie upon discovering that he may be her Shadow in disguise, despite Yu and the others advising her against it. She doesn't seem to be bothered by resorting to violence if it's self-defense, claiming that she's "no slouch in a fight."

Despite this, she is also very confused and troubled. This is due to her realizing that she doesn't have any memories about herself, and doesn't even remember her own name. This terrifies her, as it makes her doubt her beliefs of being the Student Council President, which she subconsciously does not want to happen. Sometimes, when she comes close to remembering her identity, she completely panics and begins to act erratically, sometimes running off somewhere by herself.

This brings us to a major point of Labrys's true personality: She wants to run away from her past. She willingly allows herself to have her memories suppressed by her captors, and embraces her fabricated past as a normal student. This desire to become normal stems from her memories of the personality she's based on: A girl in the Kansai region who is too sickly to go to school, and wants to become Student Council President if she were able to attend. Labrys finds this interesting, especially when shown a normal school life by her unknown captors while she is lying dormant in her crate. In order to have the happy life she could never have, she forgets her trauma and all things associated with it.

Despite the suppressed memories, Labrys still has not quite gotten over her past of killing many of her sister units during the testing phases in Yakushima. She sees her sister units as friends, and though she continues deactivating them on command, it is clear that she becomes gradually uncomfortable with the situation. This is apparent due to the setting of her TV World dungeon which reflects her subconscious, where Yu and the rest of the Investigation Team are forced to fight each other to advance. Her subconscious self-loathing from this matter is also hinted at, due to General Teddie and Fake Rise (both revealed to be her Shadow) constantly trying to attack her with props and saying that she should just die.

It is shown that Labrys has a strong sense of compassion. As her personality began to manifest itself, she goes from a cold killing machine that messily destroys other units to a reluctant fighter that tries to disable the other Anti-Shadow Weapons with the least damage possible. It gets to the point when she pleads with the scientists testing her to stop making her fight and deactivate her sister units. Even as "Miss President," Labrys shows concern about her fellow students being hurt in the Grand Prix.

She also believes in returning favors. In her own words, "You got my back, now it's my turn to get yours." This concept is what drives her to put her utmost effort in maintaining order in the fabricated school. Even if she doesn't see the student council president as being anyone special, she thinks that she should do her best in the job because the students elected her, so she should work to repay the favor and meet their expectations.

Labrys's true desire is to be normal and understood, which are the main factors leading her to her current situation. She is envious of humans and wishes to be one, which causes her to suppress her memories in order to pursue this happiness. Her desire to be understood by others is due to the researchers in the lab not willing to understand her and her sisters, and consequently the researchers treated them like objects. Labrys wants to be understood so that she can be treated as a person. However, she feels that this is an impossibility, hence why her Shadow twists it into having Yu and his friends fight each other so they can "understand".

Due to her abusive past, Labrys—once her memories are awakened—becomes self-conscious around humans. She is shy and hesitant to communicate with them, and worries about being judged for being different. She has the tendency to hide behind people she's comfortable with when meeting someone new. As "Miss President", she has no such insecurity. After all, she's human so why is there any need to worry?

Despite having almost encyclopedic knowledge about the world, Labrys is a highly curious person due to her isolated on Yakushima Island's lab. She bears an almost childlike interest in things that catch her attention, like jumping through a TV or running through a department store. She retains this curiosity at a subconscious level as "Miss President", and will flatly deny acting as such.

tl;dr: Sad robot who wants to be normal, and now thinks is normal. +100 in Spunkiness due to this.
Abilities/Powers: Labrys is a human-like robot that has many functions, such as...

Illusion: Labrys is said to be equipped with the ability to affect sight, touch, and sound. This isn't limited to just others, and has been used in combination with trauma-induced amnesia to fool herself into thinking that she is a normal human girl and the Student Council President of Yasogami High School. This illusion will persist during her stay in Haven... until something breaks it. Like cruel and possibly tech-savvy/illusion-breaking people. :| It seems like this system can also be hijacked and used by others through hacking into her systems. Also, due to her aforementioned condition, she is unable to use the following abilities for the time being:

Axe: Due to her regulatory system being inadequate to store firearms and ammo, Labrys is equipped with a large collapsible axe to fight up close. The axe is augmented with jet propulsion, which increases its swinging power. It also allows for Labrys to fly when it's attached to her back. The more she attacks with her axe, the stronger its power output becomes, indicated by the color of the jet's exhaustion. If she doesn't attack for a while or she is hit, the axe's power output lowers. She can also charge her axe to activate unblockable attacks, but they are easy to avoid and leave her highly vulnerable.

Chain Knuckle: Labrys also has a sort of "rocket punch" function, with her wrist being tethered to her arm by a chain, allowing her to reel herself in to get in close.

Ariadne: Labrys has the power of a Persona, the manifestation of her personality which gives her access to special abilities. Ariadne uses formations of red string to attack or snare opponents. Even if her illusion breaks, she won't have access to her Persona until she awakens it through large mental stress or accepting the aspect she wants to keep hidden most.

However, since her appearance is merely an illusion, she still retains superhuman strength and endurance due to her body being completely mechanized. Hulk smash!

Items/Weapons: Double-sided Axe (hidden for time being), Yasogami uniform, the STUDENT COUNCIL WHISTLE OF OBEDIENCE!

Sample Entry: Link and Other Link
Sample Entry Two: Not allowed to read or write in this side of town? What kind of illiterate stinkhole is this?! As a student council president, the denial of education and intellectual entertainment is unacceptable. Of course, she wasn't in school, nor was there any school for her to enforce rules in, so it wasn't like she was going to force people to try an enrich their learning lives. That didn't mean that she couldn't continue her studies, of course. She shouldn't stop trying to be a proper role model even if she wasn't in school. What if she started slacking and she carried that laziness back home with her? She was sure that her position would be revoked in no time!

Labrys stares into the dark depths of the tunnel leading into Haven North. Should she go by herself? There's monsters in there, from what she heard... Despite that, didn't she fight that strangely powerful lady way back then all by herself. If that was the case, she must put up a really good fight. After all, Labrys even stopped a rampage of students by simply flicking them in the forehead. If that isn't qualification to go through the tunnels, then she doesn't know what is. Plus, she could always run. She's quite confident about her athletic grades!

Nodding to herself with resolve, the student council president marches defiantly through the entrance of the tunnel. After a several minutes of walking, there seemed to be no incident. So far, so good. However, that moment of security is interrupted by a figure revealing itself from the darkness. She braces herself for an attack. Her enemy is revealed to be a ferocious, blue, smiling... adorable jelly thing. What. Labrys sighs with relief and slight disappointment. These are the dreaded monsters she's been hearing about? This is nothing---

Whoa there! The round creature lunges at her to attack. It's not as friendly as she thought it would be! On instinct, she gives the monster a swift kick. Naturally, with how weak Punis are, it splatters anticlimactically into gooey pieces. Oh... She couldn't help but feel bad for destroying something so utterly cute... She didn't actually mean to kill it! Huh, killing things she doesn't want to... It sounds so familiar. But why would something so horrible be familiar?

Her head begins to hurt when she tries thinking about it more, almost as if a suggestion for her to stop. Right. She shouldn't dawdle here any longer than she had to if this tunnel is as dangerous as they say. Better keep moving! She casts her contemplating aside and jogs further into the depths of the tunnel.

    Character Name: Judith
    Canon: Tales of Vesperia
Canon Point: Before the final dungeon, after her talk with Rita
    Background/History: the game + Judith

Personality: Judith is, as Yuri puts so succinctly, a "weirdo among weirdos". She possesses an odd sense of calm and tranquility - which you learn in her novel backstory is actually due to a coming of age tradition in her village, where she shared her emotions with the rest of the Kritya, and calm was the dominating emotion – but she’s actually rather capricious and impulsive when it comes down to it. Granted, even when one has left 'the Circle', its influence remains, so Judith will probably always be calmer than most, regardless of how she truly feels on a subject. It’s not that she doesn’t get angry or she can’t display when she’s upset, because she does, but in general, she’s one serene lady.

By the way, she's also a tease. When the group makes contact with one of the Entelexeia, and Estelle nervously mentions how it seemed to have been looking at her, Judith (who is well aware who this ‘monster’ is, and its interest in Estelle) calmly suggests that it must have seen her as the tastiest morsel. If Karol's selected in a guard-seducing mission, she cheerily reminds him that it's "all for the guild!" This teasing also manifests along with her pride in her body. Judith is most definitely the boldest girl in the party, having no qualms with wearing revealing outfits and actually seeming to prefer them. She even lightly comments to Yuri that her armor, while heavy, is the reason why her skin is so smooth and free of blemishes, and when he and Karol later comment on how she doesn’t freeze in her outfit and wonder if she’s got some kind of fur, she teasingly comments that it’s like they’ve never seen a girl up close before. Really, it takes a lot to fluster her, and half the time, it’s Judith doing the flustering, with her gentle and flirtatious comments and her debating showing a little more on already fanservicey outfits. Calling her on it will do nothing to shame or embarrass her; she’s more likely to ask if you’re jealous. All the same, she doesn’t really brag about her body. It’s just there, and she’ll comfortably expose it.

Another big aspect of her personality is her dislike of leaving things unfinished, as well as her sense of responsibility towards her priorities. It doesn’t matter what it is, if Judith gets it in her mind that she needs to do it, she will, and there is very little that can stop her. She’s bound and determined to destroy all of the Hermes blastia, to assist the Entelexeia and to carry on what her father intended to do, as those blastia were his own creations. Even if it means revealing her true identity as a blastia destroyer to a party and losing the chance to continue to observe Estelle as a potential threat to the aer balance – as well as losing the people she was coming to view as friends – Judith doesn’t hesitate to destroy a Hermes blastia powering their ship and takes off, saying only, "This is the path I have chosen." As Ba’ul was her only friend, and destroying the blastia was her only purpose, she takes both of those things very seriously. She also gets very disappointed when the group runs away from a giant monster, insisting that if they did get eaten, "I bet we could've ripped our way out from inside its stomach." She dislikes running from a fight, she dislikes not seeing things through to the end (particularly when they’re of great importance), and because of how determined she is to finish things, it can make her come off as impulsive or far too stubborn for her own good.

That's not to say Judith's not logical, though. While she can be stubborn and problematic when she tends to do things on her own with vague hints and explanations, she's also prepared to accept the consequences of her actions. She doesn't protest about being punished for breaking guild laws, despite her reasons being good ones, she argues with one of the Entelexeia against killing Estelle when she’s not at the point of being a truly dangerous threat she and even mentions putting a little more faith in humans. Also, she cooperates with Rita, so that instead of destroying all the blastia, she'll step aside to let the mage try and find a formula to render it safe. If anything, during her course of travel with the group, Judith learns that there's more than one path to any given goal, and that there are definitely people she can rely on. It's not just her and Ba'ul anymore.

Around people she doesn’t know or trust, however, expect Judith to be vague. Very, very vague. Even if she knows something the party doesn’t – and boy does she – she doesn't quite mention it, only remaining cryptic or gently steering the subject in a different direction. She’s prone to disappearing at night, or just in general on 'walks', which is usually when a blastia gets destroyed. She's a very secretive person, and she likes her mystery, so she isn't the type to just disclose anything about herself. You don't even find out Judith is Hermes' daughter unless you do a sidequest, and she never really goes into detail about her past. But she won't lie. She's, as she puts it, "not a very good liar", which is true. It's more that she skirts around the truth more than anything. For example, when Yuri asks her why she’s been destroying blastia, she says "It's because I want to." It’s not a lie, because Judith genuinely does want to aid the Entelexeia and make up for her father’s regrets, but she sees no need to mention that. Rather than explain to Yuri why she has no interest in destroying the blastia he wears, she mentions that destroying that wouldn’t be any fun. And it wouldn’t, but it’s also not a Hermes blastia, so Judith doesn’t have any reason to trash it. That’s just how she handles the truth, though she can be incredibly blunt when she gets annoyed, or when she’s being perceptive. She knows full well that when she and Yuri are on a ghost ship, he’s disappointed that she’s not the type to cling to him and shriek about being afraid, and points that out matter-of-factly. She’s also not afraid to snap at Estelle for dragging the others along on her whims, or for being indecisive, and she’s known to state things without reservation.

Lastly, with those she knows and trusts, you don’t get anyone more loyal than Judith. Ba'ul is her only family, meaning she'll protect him with her life, fighting off hunters and keeping her friend safe up to the point where she collapses from exhaustion only when the danger's over. She's got a playful, teasing nature beneath all of that tranquility, a perceptive nature, a love of fighting, and if you're being an idiot, she really won't hold back when it comes to punching you in the face. She can be considerate with those she considers friends, protecting Estelle’s innocence when it comes to seducing a guard, letting Rita try to save the blastia before she destroys it, having confidence in Karol’s aspirations, and so on. She becomes an encouraging force, as they’ve done for her, and with those people by her side, she’s grown tremendously. She’s still scary as hell in battles, though.

Abilities/Powers: Like every character in every Tales game, Judith has access to a set of artes, which are magical and physical attacks. In her case, her artes are all physical, though her Burst artes can take on elemental properties. She fights with her spear, and tends to knock her opponents into the air for some brutal aerial acrobatics. Simply put, once she's in the air, she's in her element and boy will you regret it. Even without a spear, she can hold her own just by using her fists and her legs, and once got into a brawl just to stage a jailbreak. Self-defense really isn't an issue with her.

Radiant Moonlight is Judith's Mystic Arte, her strongest attack, and it comes in two stages. In the first, she summons several pillars of lightning in a circle around her opponent, which are then absorbed into her spear. She then hits the opponent, delivering all of that lightning from her spear into their body. In the second stage, it's a single strike, with a delayed reaction on the rest until she lowers her spear.

    Items/Weapons:
✖ Brionac, her most cherished spear
✖ The dagger holstered to her leg
    ✖ Stuffed Ba'ul attachment

    Sample Entry: Over here!
    Sample Entry Two:

The first thing that occurred to her was not that she was in an unfamiliar room, which could lead her to conclude that she was, additionally, no longer in Aurnion. Long before she even opened her eyes, as she always did, Judith had reached for Ba'ul, that constant presence who was always close enough to contact in their usual way.

But there was nothing. Not the Entelexeia's "voice", no sense of acknowledgment, just a space that ached with emptiness. The sudden nothingness drew her fully awake, but even as the worry began to form, so too did her sensibilities awaken. If she couldn't communicate with Ba'ul, it either meant that something had happened to her oldest friend, or that there was something now separating them. She continued to feign sleep - and never had she been so grateful for the tranquility that usually governed her expression - with one hand inching down her thigh to feel for-- ah, good, the dagger was still there. Wherever she was, however she had come to be here, she hadn't lost one weapon. Then, what came next...

Judith allowed herself to stir, pushing herself up slowly enough to take in the room. Not one she knew, but her spear caught her eye, and her smile could have been one of bemused drowsiness. Triumph and relief could both stay hidden for now. She had her weapons. There were people here, a good enough source of information. She could learn where she was, and why she was here. Perhaps she could even get a better idea on how to find the others; much as it still quietly surprised her to think about it, she had more people to care about now. Determining they were safe was high on the list of priorities she was still rapidly compiling. She could ignore the very, very vague irritation that such an odd thing had to happen now, when they were on the cusp of fighting for more than she'd ever thought she would raise her spear for. If nothing else, it was already proving to be interesting.

After that, she would just need to find her friend, and if things weren't well with Ba'ul, then perhaps a visit to whoever had arranged this fine little mess would be in order. A good fight was the best way to release tension, after all.

    For now...

    "My, my. I hope I didn't snore."

    [personal profile] zetabeamguy 2013-10-11 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
Background/History: The wiki is pretty bare bones, so let me lay it out for you as well.

Every school has one – the nerdy kid who doesn't quite fit in. Hailed by his teachers for his brilliance, and mocked by his peers. Little Jonathan was that kid. Sent to a special high school, one claiming to be for extremely smart children (but also one that produced a startling amount of superheroes in the process. Coincidence? Discuss), which is where he met Jason. Jason was the popular, good-looking jock – the one who always seemed to be the source of all of Jonathan's torment. And he remained as such well past their high school days, and well into their Harvard ones.

At which point, Jonathan was given free reign of one of the science labs to run tests on his newly-developed Zeta Dimension theories. (What the Zeta Dimension is, I have no clue. So don't ask. The book tends to focus more on the people than the mechanics of their world or their powers.) The accident that followed was simply that – an accident. Nevermind that Jason had just stolen his girlfriend, he walked into the testing area himself. And hey, look, he got cool superpowers out of it. Jason never finished college, and instead chose to use his newfound powers for good. He became CoreFire, one of the world's greatest superheroes.

This began a steady downward spiral in Jonathan's academic career. Genius though he was, he began failing classes, choosing instead to spend his time in the library or the labs. He was going to perfect his Zeta theories, even if it killed him. He became known as "the Zeta Beam Guy" around campus, and even in his seventh year of college, was still a sophomore. He was biding his time. Anything to keep using the school's resources.

Harvard eventually booted him, so he moved on to grad school. There is where his future would truly take shape.

There was, big surprise, a huge lab accident. Jonathan was buried under the rubble of the wrecked lab and completely missed by rescue teams and paramedics. When he finally regained consciousness, there was something… different about him.

    He had superpowers.

Now armed with superhuman strength, and skin impervious to most things (like oh, say… bullets), along with his already genius intellect, he crawled out of the wreckage to begin a new life. One as a supervillain. Jonathan died in that accident, and Doctor Impossible was born.

Thirteen times he tried to take over the world in every way imaginable: doomsday devices of all varieties (nuclear, thermonuclear, nanotechnological) and mass mind control. He's traveled backwards in time to change history, forward in time to escape it. He's commanded robot armies, insect armies, and dinosaur armies. Fungus army. Army of fish. Of rodents. Alien invasions. All failures. Thwarted by CoreFire – his own creation, his nemeses even now – time and again. He's been in and out of prison twelve times now, and just narrowly escaped his thirteenth.

After all, if there's one thing he's learned from years of villainy, it's this: You just keep going. You keep trying to take over the world.

Personality: Even from the beginning, he knew he was going to fail. All villains fail. But Jonathan would be damned if he remained that kid. The geeky nobody. The lunchroom pratfaller.

Above everything else, he wants to be noticed. He wants CoreFire to remember him- that kid that he teased in school. He wants that cute reporter he keeps kidnapping to realize it's him, John, who she shared occasional lunches with at Harvard, behind the mask. He wants Harvard to invite him back, to that he can storm in through the doors, cape billowing, and show them all that he isn't some oddball failure.

Even as a supervillain, he's socially awkward. He's never been much-liked by his peers, and of the scores of evil metahumans out there, he was only ever close to two of them. He works alone, primarily. If it's advantageous, he might form an alliance or two, but of the villains of his world, he's in a league far above the rest, and mostly uses the small-timers as his errand boys.

Still, he's no fool. He's sharp, observant. Always thinking three steps ahead. He has amazing patience- you have to in order to build robot armies and evil fortresses by yourself. He will try- and has tried- any means to get what he wants.

His mannerisms are dry, and matter-of-fact, and maybe a little resigned, most of the time. Until he puts on the cape and mask, and then it's all bravado, all theater. Sometimes he finds himself wondering just why he’s compelled to spout stock phrases and make villainous speeches and monologue about his plans, but on some level he knows he can’t help it. You reach a certain level of genius and your brain just wires itself to be hammy, over-the-top evil, apparently. These days they have a name for it- Malign Hypercognition Disorder.

    Abilities/Powers:

Genius intellect. Doctor Impossible is, of course, a genius. You don't pick up the title "smartest man in the world" for nothing, you know. His IQ is well over 300 - it was before the Accident, and he's done nothing but hone his intellect over the years. The man can build a supercomputer out of a desktop PC, some odds and ends found at the local Radio Shack, and plastic cups from Burger King. Not kidding.

Photographic/eidetic memory. Sure, he uses blueprints and plans and the like when building giant robots or lasers, but largely he can store all of his plans in his head. He memorized the layout of the prison he was sent to years before he was even sent there, just on the off chance that he would eventually be jailed. He could recall it perfectly while making his escape.

Superhardened skin. His skin can stop bullets with mild bruising at worst, though this also means he doesn't feel hot or cold, or even pain very much at all. A punch to the face feels like a gust of wind against his skin, even if the force is enough to send him head over heels. Beat on him enough, however, and the pain will become more prominent. He’ll fold just like anyone else after enough punishment.

Superhuman speed. He's wicked fast when he wants to be, though he claims he can't quite dodge bullets (though, to be fair, he doesn't really have the need).

Superhuman strength. He's incredibly strong, though not on the level of, say, Superman. He can, however, rip ATMs out of walls, or uproot streetlights without much effort. He’s not going to be lifting anything like airplanes any time soon, though.

    Items/Weapons:

The Power Staff. A staff that he has crammed full of tricks and technology to even the odds of fighting teams of superheroes. It can fire energy, absorb energy, reflect energy, make him fly, make him invisible to cameras, neutralize laser tripwires, and spray knockout gas or smoke screens. It does need to be charged, though, so he can’t just go around using it all the time.

A laser gun. Because he wasn’t enough of a cliché already. It doesn’t do anything except fire lasers.

A note. It reads a set of coordinates- latitude and longitude- the name “Nelson Gerard”, and is signed “Good Luck, L.”

    Sample Entry: Right this way.

    Sample Entry Two:

Alternate dimensions and dimensional hubs were tricky things. He had been to several of both in his lifetime and it was a safe bet that, even if you did all the research you possibly could, you never quite knew what you were going to get. Were you going to find an alternate version of yourself with a different set of superpowers or a different outlook on life? Would you ind earth whole or destroyed or under the rule of some alien race?

Or would you one day wake up in a severely hostile, inescapable environment with no place, no reason, to act as the supervillain you are?

That was what he most disliked about this place. Survival was the game in a different way than it had ever been before. He was forced to play- he didn’t want to use the word “hero”. It had far too many connotations attached to it- reluctant guardian more often than not. Where he once put his mind to inventions that would have the world’s governments bowing at his feet, he now worked on ways to generate electricity, or clean water. Where he would once come to blows with CoreFire, BlackWolf and the rest of the Champions, demolishing entire city blocks in an attempt to claw his way to the safety of one of his many hideouts, he now fired superpowered punches at monsters while he defended people he barely knew, simply because their survival was all tied together. They were all in the same boat.

Christ, he didn’t even know most of these peoples’ names.

This was all too complicated for him. He missed the comparative simplicity of world domination. He longed to be building giant robots, or even a good old-fashioned laser beam. He longed to proclaim to the world that he was Doctor Impossible, and he was a force to be feared, he was going to rule the world.

For every person he defended. For every contribution he made to keep their little rag-tag society running, he made himself a promise. It wasn’t a very big promise, at least not for a man who dealt in a larger scale than most, but it was enough to get him through. When he did get out of here, when the world was finally his, he was going to find Haven and wipe it out of the multiverse.

Background/History:I can't change the fact that you're a magical girl, and I can't give you your family back. But what I can do is fight in your stead.

Personality:Does that mean to save yourself, you have to give up on all the magical girls who aren't your friends?
Described as an good-natured but ordinary girl, Madoka has lived a life that she does not take much pride in, wishing to change for the better and become more for the people she loves so dearly. Nevertheless, she has lived a good life as a good person- she almost seems to be the very definition of compassion when you first meet her and you wouldn't be very far off thinking so. She is overly kind, friendly to everyone and amazingly selfless for someone her age with a want to always be truthful like her parents taught her.

Honestly, she is just a good person and constantly tries to do her very best. She follows her heart and the advice of her family, guided by a want to do what is right.

She can sometimes be shy and nervous but if she calls you her friend, she is loyal to a fault. Not the sort of to judge others based on appearances or words alone, she seeks out her own understandings and judges for herself when others might look the other way. It's simply not in her to immediately think the worst of someone, and harder still to hate them and feel happy in her decision. The heartache that comes with being a teenager, especially one with such a big heart, opens her up to be both naive and gullible of those that are out there to hurt her. This tends to get her into trouble, especially earlier timelines where she easily believe in what Kyuubey tells her and never asking asking questions, for explanations or really thinking hard on what it would mean to be a magical girl which leads to several rash choices and wishes.

Unfortunately, Madoka does not have much self-confidence in herself or her abilities without her magical powers and believes she has no good qualities to be proud of otherwise. This changes when she meets Mami and watches her fight for the sake of others, she realizes she could possibly do the same thing and it fills her with a happiness she had not felt before. Madoka believes just being able to become a magical girl will be granting her wish since someone like her—someone so useless—could finally be useful to someone else.

Hand-in-hand with this is the harsh self-hatred that she carries for herself at times and because of this- tends to blame herself for things far beyond her control. No matter the timeline, if something were to happen to her friends it will lead her believe that it what happened was her fault because she was too weak to change it. When she is captured by a witch and tortured with images of Mami and her death in the last timeline for example, she believes this is something she deserves for being both weak and a liar.

She justifies her negativity by beating herself down, figuring that if she had not been weak, a liar or a coward than they never would have happened.

Nevertheless, inside Madoka is the strength she does not believe herself to be capable of. Her bravery and confidence shines in the timelines where she become a magical girl, facing threats head-on and despite the risks she will face. In a way, she tries to pass her own confidence to others and this is mostly seen in the very first timeline when she befriends Homura. Reassuring and cheering the other girl on, perhaps realizing the similar qualities that had plagued her through life. Even in the times when she had not become a magical girl, her love for her friends will give birth to the courage she needs and solidify her decision to become a magical girl.

As mentioned, she is extremely selfless- the sort of girl to wear her heart on her sleeve and when her friend is killed by a witch (unknown to her, Sayaka had become a witch) she does not hesitate to wish for her revival nor offer up her life to fight in Mami's stead. This is because, under all of the finite power, Madoka is still the good-natured and ordinary girl she thought she was.

At the end of the day, Madoka is a girl that loves her family, her friends, her city and most of all- she loves the world and everyone in it. She wants the very best for everyone and will fight for it with calm determination and overwhelming kindness.

Abilities/Powers:I thought... if I became a magical girl, I could be really cool like Sayaka-chan and Mami-san.
Madoka is a Puella Magi, or more simply put: a magical girl.

Incubators are alien beings that change young girls who are willing to fight in exchange for their wish being granted into Puella Magi. This aforementioned fighting is the job of hunting down witches and with their transformation into Puella Magi, each girl gains varying and wide varieties of magical power in order to do so. When the contract is formed a special gem, called a soul gem, is created which is the source of the girls' magical powers. As the girl uses her powers, the soul gem begins tarnish and as its light begins to fade so does her powers. The only way to reverse this effect and replenish their magic is by defeating witches, collecting the grief seeds they drop and using the item to cleanse their soul gem.

Powers, outfit and weaponry a girl receives upon making a contact depends not only on the nature of the wish but the girl, herself. A girls' potential and thus future magical strength depends on the misfortune she is destined to carry. So the Queen of a country or a savior would be much stronger than an girl living an ordinary life.

soul gem For magical girls, their soul gem is their real body. When a contract is made, their souls are ripped from their bodies and turned into gems, so they might fight without the restrictions of a normal human body. Since her soul is separated from her physical body, she must keep the gem close at all times- if it were to be lost or if it breaks, her body will die. On the other hand, as long as she keeps her soul gem close and has the magic to spare, it is possible for her to heal from many injuries most would consider fatal.
physical enhancements Because they are made into magical girls in order to fight, their bodies are strengthened as a result to withstand numerous battles against witches and their familiars. When transformed her speed, endurance, strength, stamina and pain threshold is far above that of a normal human.
magical enhancements The nature of Homura's wish means that every time she turns back time, another thread of fate ties itself to Madoka and makes her a stronger magical girl in turn. This has given Madoka the potential to become a magical girl much stronger than any other in the world, if not the entire universe with the ability to change the world or completely destroy it if she were to become a witch.
weapon Madoka's weapon manifests itself as a bow stylized with a blossoming rose atop it. While using it she can create arrows from pure magic, firing single shots or multiple at enemies with incredible ease and accuracy.
kriemhild gretchen The more magic Madoka uses in fight or simply the magic she uses to keep her body alive, the more her soul gem tarnishes and begins to be eclipsed in blackness. If she does not purify the gem in time with a grief seed, Madoka will turn into a very powerful witch capable of causing massive amounts of destruction in her wake.

    Items/Weapons:
    (1) soul gem (which allows her to transform, use magic and summon her bow)
    (1) grief seed
    (1) cell phone

    Sample Entry:
    thread from another game
    Sample Entry Two:
As the light faded from her eyes, Madoka felt something was not right.

Although greeted once more by the sight of Walpurgisnacht and destruction the view-point had changed. She no longer stood inside the ruins of a building but atop one and neither Homura nor Kyuubey was nearby. For a moment, she was lost in her worry for Homura but the explosion that rocked the area also knocked her out of the worried thoughts.

Madoka turned just in time and saw the aftermath of the explosion and she is almost overwhelmed by the sheer forced it produced. Instead she felt her heart as it began to drum louder and louder in her chest until it almost became the only thing she could hear as she watched the scene that played out before her eyes. It took a moment but she realized quickly that it was Homura once again fighting the gigantic witch and gasped. But why? How… She thought to herself, as her mind reeled back to the sight of Homura bleeding and hurt.

Her thoughts are interrupted, so horribly, as she watched the building be slammed into the other girl. Her heart ached and with Homura’s state when she arrived before still fresh in mind, she allowed herself to react…

    She jumped.

Her body felt light despite how fast she continued to fall, cushioned by magic as she landed and forced herself to run—run faster than she ever had before. She weaved through chunks of concrete, broken glass and twisted metal toward the building, toward where she knew Homura had landed. Madoka checked the sky, her eyes locked on floating pieces of broken building as she bent at her knees and jumped up as high as she could.

Madoka landed atop a broken piece of what was once a part of Mitakihara's skyline and took the moment granted to decide the best path to get to where she knew Homura was. The gifted moment was not once that lasted long as color surrounded her and the witch's familiar appeared in a chorus of laughter, but she is still determined to push forward and get to the other girl in time. She raised the bow in her hand toward the grouped familiars as she pulled back on the string that appeared as the rose atop the weapon bloomed in the surge of pink light that blazed from the weapon now. The single arrow drawn back morphed into many as she steadied herself — the sensation in her chest that reminded her of how familiar this feeling, ignored for now — took aim and allowed the arrows to fly at their targets.

The explosion decimated the group, sparks of color left to float in the air as they vanished. Madoka does not wait in the aftermath for long and pushed herself to jump once more, higher and higher until she reached the familiar building. By now Walpurgisnacht was all she heard; even her heart is a whisper in comparison to the witch’s laughter that echoed throughout the building as she hurried on. She spotted Homura among the rubble and sighed in relief that she had made it in time and cried out, “Homura-chan!” before she rushed and kneeled at her side.

Just like she remembered, Madoka watched as the black enveloped the purple of Homura’s soul gem and threatened to overtake it. Once more, she does the first thing that came to her mind, she reached out and took Homura's hand into her own, squeezing in reassurance. "It's okay. It's okay now, Homura-chan."

Madoka knew this now and she would make sure of it. After all, it was her prayer, her wish and the very thing she believed was worth giving this life of hers for.
