Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:

I just realized that now too, thanks! But it's just the writing that will be gone, right? The powers are technically still intact.

Character Name: (Samuel) Sam Winchester
Canon: Supernatural
Canon Point: 8x14

Background/History: from the Supernatural Wiki

Personality: Sam is and always would be the one who was the closest to having a normal life, and the one who wanted it the most. He kept believing for so long that it was possible - that someday he could walk away from being a hunter if only the right circumstances came up. And yet, every time he gets tied back down and pulled back into the life he was raised into by his father. He ran away to Stanford, where he was so close to interviewing and in turn being accepted into a Law School. He had top tier grades and an amazing L-SAT score. But when his brother came and asked him to help looking for their father and every time after that, he’s always had to let go of that dream. It isn’t that he doesn’t still dream it… or even that he doesn’t think it’s not possible. But when it comes down to it, he himself has a hard time letting go.

Of the two of them, Sam is the more sensitive soul. He empathizes with people, and when it’s possible, would rather spare people pain. For him, saving people is important. It’s the one thing about what they do that he can say is truly good. He carries a lot of guilt from the whole demon blood crap and the Apocalypse and in general for a lot of bad decisions that come with being Sam Winchester. But he tries to handle it in the healthiest way he knows (which still can’t be called healthy) - which is trying to save as many people as he can and trying to atone. He’ll never completely forgive himself for some of the worst choices, but he finds ways to move forward. The thing he feels the guiltiest for however - is the number of times he’s let his brother down. A lot of the messes and bad choices he’s made - he considers to be instances where he’s let his brother down, whether it be because he didn’t trust Dean enough to talk to him about certain things, or lying, or just not doing the right thing.

He also has a stubborn streak a mile wide, though it can be said that he has to, travelling with Dean. He tries to be the voice of reason and often has to stand his ground when in a disagreement. He also shows certain obsessive-compulsive tendencies regarding order and cleanliness. But he’s also smart. He’s a strategist. He likes to think first, make plans and be prepared. Sam uses his intelligence and that planning to maintain some semblance of control over situations. It’s the only thing he can do. Being informed is one advantage he can’t stand to be without. The worst thing is not knowing what you’re up against and not knowing how to stop it. He’s clever enough that he can make educated guesses even without full knowledge, but he tries to dig up as much as possible.

One big thing -The relationship he has with his brother is definitely not the healthiest. And a number of people see and comment on it. A lot of it boils down to co-dependency. We’ve seen how Sam handles losing Dean more than once, and while he debatably might handle it better than Dean does when the situation is vice-versa, he doesn’t handle it well. They both have a bad habit of looking for ways to cheat death. But the last time - when Dean was pulled into Purgatory - he didn’t look for him, which was huge for him, and something that caused their happy reunion to be strained. During that time he’d once again chased normalcy and once again, it didn’t last. The two of them are very different, but it’s that difference that makes them a good team and many times, they look to each other to balance each other out.

Sam looked up to Dean for a long time, and truly wanted to be more like him. And yet, when he did act more like him, it didn’t work out as well for him. It turns out that they work better together when Sam is just being Sam.

The thing he fears the most is being alone. As long as he has his brother, he can find ways to believe he can overcome all different kinds of crap. At the same time, their history makes connecting with people tough. Because almost everyone he and his brother have gotten close to - friends, family… they always get hurt. They always die. The nature of their job makes relying on people really tough. It’s painful for him and it’s particularly hard for Sam after he learned that their mother and Jessica, two of the people he cared about most early on, were killed because of him - to meld him into the person the demons needed… the one that would break the final seal and release Lucifer. The fact that he was the sole reason for their deaths weighs heavily on Sam. He doesn’t want to put people in danger, but at the same time - the life he lives, the work he does - it’s lonely. And he’d like nothing better than to be able to have friends and be able to open up to people. But his life is too dangerous, and it scares him. They can’t even be honest with most people about what they do. And if it can be helped - Sam wouldn’t want to tell them the truth - that there are terrible things out there in the dark.

He’s not a big drinker, though he drinks his fair share of beer and alcohol, a way to deal with the job. But Sam is generally a pretty healthy eater, unlike his brother. Mostly salads, actually, though he’d never turn down anything homemade. But then, he’s really not a very picky person. He doesn’t need much. Living on the road… hopping between cheap motels… he doesn’t have many possessions and though they don’t have much, he never really complains about it.

Sometimes he has a habit of saying things that Dean considers to be girly, and gets ragged on for it. That boils down to his more emotional nature.

Sam’s built a lot of confidence up since he started out, but he still faces a lot of uncertainty. In their work and in their lives, there’s a lot choices to make, not all of which are really clear and it follows him into other aspects of his life. He tries to be strong for Dean, and other peoples’ sakes, and it works a lot of the time but it also makes him prone to sometimes hiding things - particularly bad things. If he’s hurting or something’s wrong - he tries too hard not to bother people with it, not always realizing that he’s not always the most closed book and that a lot of the time, doing so usually hurts people more, especially his brother.

Trouble sleeping is another thing that has frequented him on and off for different reasons. When he gets really worked up, he can stay awake for days. And paranoia comes with the job. For example, Sam and Dean started testing people for possession, as well as checking their blood and whether or not they reacted to salt or iron - things that the creatures they run into most would react to - to make sure they were talking to who they really think they are and not something taking their form, image, or possessing them.

Abilities/Powers: First and foremost, Sam is a Hunter and he was raised from a very young age to be a capable fighter. Hand to hand combat, knives, guns - Sam is skilled with all of them, and not just that. He knows how to improvise too. It comes from not just training but also the vast experience he’s gotten from hunting all different kinds of monsters. But it’s not just the physical aspect of it that makes him so good. He’s also smart, and he has a lot of good instincts, honed over the years. His mind is always running a few steps ahead of his actions to try and give him whatever advantage he can get. It’s partially survival instinct. He’s quick and lethal when he has to be, though he’s still more reluctant to kill than his brother unless it becomes necessary.

On top of all of his fighting skills, there’s more - he’s considered the “encyclopedia of weirdness” for a reason. He’s proficient in Latin, knows a number of spells, wards, how to make hex bags to ward off demons and wards to block out and keep out angels, and a number of other helpful tricks in dealing with monsters, spirits, celestials, and other supernatural beings. Sam is usually the first to start researching, and has a vast appetite for knowledge of many kinds.

He also has an amazing amount of willpower as well as physical and mental endurance. He withstands Lucifer’s mental torment for months before he cracks under the madness from the hallucinations and he can take a lot of punishment physically and mentally. Despite the heavy weight on his shoulders between his guilt and the burden of knowing there is demon blood inside of him, Sam never gives up. He’s a fighter despite every bad thing that happens and every part of him that wants to give up. That’s his most valuable strength.

The demon blood inside of him let him tap into different abilities, and even stronger abilities when he drank more blood, though his cravings for it have died and his powers faded after he stopped drinking. Those included precognitive visions, telekinesis, super strength, immunity to certain demonic powers, forcing demons out of their vessels with his mind and exorcising them back to hell and on a few occasions (with more blood) - killing them entirely.

Items/Weapons: A knife and a hand gun.

Sample Entry: Uh, so… hey. Name’s Sam. I’ve been here a while now and I’ve been wondering about something. This place… there’s really no books at all. No library, no texts… not even hints that there ever were. Sounds like there’s a story there. I mean, it’s definitely weird, right? I mean… the state that this place is in, it wouldn’t really be weird if they’d been around and damaged. But there’s no library - no signs that there had ever been one or anything like it.

Does anyone know anything about it? If you do - let me know. Thanks.

Sample Entry Two: If there is anything Sam’s learned, it’s that waking up in weird places is generally not a good thing; especially when the place you’re waking up is a decrepit building. It doesn’t look like the kind of place you want to be. There’s an alarm clock - that’s what he heard when he woke up. There’s a bed too… and six others around him besides the one he’s sleeping in. There are others… but not his brother. That’s not reassuring. The more he learns, the less he likes this.

Slipping out of the bed, he quietly starts looking around, keeping his hand close to the knife stashed in his pocket. He doesn’t know anything about the other people in this room. Not a single one of them looks familiar to him. And maybe they all look like they’re in the same situation as him, but he can’t be sure of that. He can’t be sure of anything. Not yet anyway. He has to figure some things out. At least until he can meet up with Dean.

There’s the room he woke up in - the bedroom he guesses, a basic kitchen and a… well, the best way he can describe it is as a catch all room. None of them are in particularly good shape. Not in any shape to be inhabited. The rooms are pretty bare too. No television, no books… nothing that gave it any kind of character. Kind of like a bad motel room - granted, one that’s been abandoned for a great many years, but that’s beside the point. There is a radio, but turning it on only gets him a mess of static.

“Guess that would be too easy.” Sam sighs and rubs his temples. In his sweep of the rooms, he finds no hex bags, no odd symbols, no sulfur… no signs of any foul play. Nothing he can use to narrow it down. “What the hell is going on here?” He mutters to himself, anxiety building. He makes his way to the last door, hoping it’s a way out and tests the knob. He tries it and it turns. “Guess it’s not locked…”

It could be a trap. He knows that. But it’s something, and right about now he needs something.

He looks back at the bedroom for a split second. Those people could be in the same mess he’s in. And while he’d love to keep pushing forward, he’s torn. How could he just leave potential victims to go looking for god knows what when whatever it is could come back and get them?

“Dammit…”

Seems like he’d be hanging around a little bit longer before he adventured out - see if he couldn’t figure out who these people are and what their stories were. And if one of them - or all of them - were the culprit(s) - well then at least he’d be facing it head on instead of waiting until he could be caught off guard or worse. And if they were just victims, well… then he’d just have to do everything he could to make sure they were safe until they could get out of here.

Did he dream this morning? Makoto felt consciousness wash over him like a cold tide. Sure, he's had dreams preparing himself for the day, but he clearly remembered meeting with Haru at the foot of the shrine and making their way to school together. He supposed he would just have to relive brushing his teeth and washing his hair. He groaned slightly, detesting the morning, and opened his bleary eyes.

Makoto sat straight up in his bed, gasping. It was still too early to warrant the full scream that caught in his weak throat, but he felt it blow up inside of him. His eyes widened beyond comfortable capacity, and he stared across the room of unoccupied beds. "H-Haru??" It was clear as day that his friend was not with him at this moment, but did that change the undeniable want and need for him? Hardly; as fear took over his sleepy mind, Haru was just about the only able to give him at least a hold on solace. But of course, Haru wasn't there, and grasping even enough courage to get out of the bed was more than a little difficult.

Checking under the bed for ghouls (he was, after all, an easily spooked 16-year-old), he then sat up again and curled his legs around the side of the bed. He walked slowly toward the window, leaning forward and taking in the first glance of what he would soon discover was his new home. He wasn't sure what he thought; only knew that he was scared out of his mind, and shaking around his ankles, and that he felt cold. He wanted so badly to know what had happened to bring him here; and more so, he wanted not to be alone.

He couldn't imagine staying inside the room was any better an idea than leaving it, so drawing the sheet off of his bed and pulling it around his shoulders, he gently sneaked out the door.

Sample Entry Two:

Worick was leaned up against a wall inside the lobby of the apartment complex, cigarette lit and placed in-between index and forefinger. A drag every other minute or so, completely silent as he surveyed the coming and going's of each individual person or group. He wouldn't let it be known that he was making a literal mental note of who they were and that he would never forget them for the distant future, so to bystanders, he was just some older guy enjoying a cigarette break.

There were many faces in Haven. Even without his unique ability, Worick was assured that he could remember a majority of them off the back of his mind. They all seemed to belong in their own story, main characters in a way. Bearing a special aura as they walked around, confused as all hell just like he was. It was humorous to witness, yet sad at the same time.

It wasn't very hard for him to become accustomed to Haven's layout. Having been just a tad bit more beaten down than Ergastulum, this place was very identical to home. What threw him off, however, was the fact that most of the people passing through seemed to have made the most of their temporary (read: permanent) stay. Some were actually laughing with others as they were returning back to their apartment, gleeful over... something that was maybe best not knowing.

With the possibility, now, that everyone in Haven was psychotic and murderous, Worick was slightly fearful at the thought of being stabbed while sleeping by a tiny schoolgirl. That seedling of a thought was cast away as he kicked away from the wall and took another puff of his rolled-up tobacco.

" Shit. Time to figure out where all the fun's at, I s'ppose. "

Character Name: Sai
Canon: Naruto
Canon Point: Middle of Chapter 458. When he yells at Sakura for causing Naruto pain just like Sasuke.
Background/History: Narutopedia

Previous Game History:

Sai is being pulled from [livejournal.com profile] a_facility, where he resided for a more than a year as a subject to the Doctors who ran weekly experiments on them. However, he will only retain the memories of his first three months there.

When Sai first entered The Facility in Mid-October, he met several of his fellow shinobi. Naruto did not know him due to differing timelines so he decided to give him a gift in order to make a good first impression. He created the present during Nude Week and gifted the blond with a sketchbook composed of a collection of nude males. The gift did little to endear him to Naruto much to his surprise. Later, Sai met the Kazekage. Their first true interaction occurred when they were transferred to the Soul Eater Universe and the two conducted an aerial exploration of the city. They were attacked and Sai turned into a Weapon, a large bow with ink arrows. Gaara wielded him as his Meister and the two learned they could fight well side by side.

Later, Sai fought against Shukaku, then left mid-fight when Naruto also transformed into the Kyuubi. He later had a private meeting with the Kazekage and exchanged information with him in order to gain intel on Shukaku. While they were allies, this proved Sai was still under Danzou’s influence and still gathering information for his commander. When Naruto was first terminated, Sai painted a portrait of him proving he was not completely unaffected by his loss and that he did indeed feel some connection to his comrades. His emotions later came to light when the Doctors experimented on them making them lose their minds and become violent. Sai held a firm grip on his emotions until the end of the week when the symptoms increased. He went into a rage when he believed another subject had destroyed Shin’s Picture Book, further demonstrating the strength of the bond he still holds with his deceased brother.

During December, Team Seven was affected by Wish Week. They were all brought together in a seemingly happy ending. Seeing this, Sai inadvertently ended up wishing for real friendship, a friendship not born of lies or some experiment induced by the Doctors. His wish was granted by Gaara, who claimed to be his friend. Having made his first real friend, Sai began to free himself of the chains ROOT wrapped him in since he was a child. He still believes in Danzou’s ideals and thinks ROOT is necessary in order to complete those dirty missions that keep Konoha safe. However, he has begun to realize that not all of ROOT’s teachings are necessarily right. He’s realized that emotions by themselves do not make a shinobi weak as ROOT always claimed. And the bonds they make with others… those don’t always make one weak either.

2/3

[personal profile] painted_seals 2014-01-05 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Sai was orphaned and taken into ROOT, a strict ANBU Branch whose motto states: "In Root... there are no names. There are no feelings... There is no past... there is no future. There is only the mission... The will of us Roots supports this great tree called Konoha, invisible, from within the earth." A motto he stringently lived by, until he began spending time as a member of Team Kakashi. By observing the way Team Kakashi worked together and experiencing their genuine devotion to each other, he began to slowly understand that emotions although irrational, weren’t always useless—a striking turn around for a ROOT soldier.

Sai's original name is unknown. He has no identity other than the one given to him for each mission. As it stands, the name “Sai” is given to him by the ANBU ROOT leader, an elder named Danzou, for the sake of his original mission—the assassination of Uchiha Sasuke. In ROOT, he was trained to become an emotionless shinobi from a very young age and put through some Bloody Mist training methods, which consisted of a final exam that pitted students who had closely worked together against each other in a death match. A system designed to kill their emotions completely. Sai would have been paired with his beloved brother, Shin, had he lived. However, Shin died before they could fight, and his death propelled the suppression of his emotions.

Sai is a very rational shinobi. He doesn’t let his emotions conduct his behavior while in battle, or during most situations. Sai is a quick study and takes it upon himself to read books on various subjects to further increase his understanding. Furthermore, his time in ROOT allowed him to gain some insight into political moves behind the scenes having been in close proximity to Danzou’s subtle moves while in charge of ROOT. Sai is an avid observer who pays a lot of attention to details, which allows him to see through an opponent’s strategy. This is shown when he’s able to understand his enemies plan before Yamato or Kakashi explains it to the team, and when he see’s through Yamato’s tricks when he’s first introduced. Furthermore, unlike most of his peers, Sai is able to see through Naruto’s mask of happiness and realizes the burden of a promise he’s been carrying all this time. He may not be able to understand obvious social norms, but small subtleties of a person he can detangle over time.

Due to his background, Sai is emotionally and socially crippled. He spent most of his life training to abolish his emotions in order to become a loyal tool for Danzou; thus, he doesn’t know how to interact with people in a social setting. When he first joined Team Seven, he didn’t have a real personality, and merely put up a friendly, albeit awkward, front. Sai tends to say the first thing that pops into his mind having never developed a social filter, a fact that often gets him in trouble with people, especially women. Later, he tries to learn how to interact with regular people by reading books on social conduct, thus; his behavior is often mechanically off. However, over time, he’s improved enough not to anger or annoy most people he talks to—with his first few comments.

Sai’s grasp on social norms and behavior is his downfall. He may be an intelligent shinobi, but when it comes to normal everyday interactions he is at a loss. He understands social behavior better now than when he was first introduced, but he still finds most of it irrational, and therefore, confusing. He constantly studies books on social behavior but his studies have done little to improve his social skills due to his mechanical approach to the subject. Emotions are not supposed to be read about, but experienced; thus, when he puts what he’s learned into practices he often fails to comprehend that people will not always react to a pre-set set of rules, and when they deviate from the “appropriate” response, he finds himself unable to compensate to the new path.

Sai knows there’s something wrong with him. It’s obvious. He is well aware of his lack of social skills, and tries to fix them by reading books, observing people, and by putting into practice what he’s learned. However, his lack of emotions makes it difficult to understand the true meaning behind many gestures, which is evidenced when he was fooled by Sakura’s fake smile right before she hit him for insulting Sasuke in front of her. Sai is Sasuke’s replacement, it was a position given to him by Danzou for the sake of his original mission. He shares many qualities with the missing-nin, a fact that both Sakura and Naruto note when they first meet him. However, despite those qualities, Sai has a childlike innocence Sasuke lost a long time ago.

Before, even the concept of simple emotions was hard for him to understand. Therefore, it was not surprising that his personal studies did little to improve his interactions with others, especially considering his rather blunt personality. Currently, Sai is still slowly learning how to identify stronger emotions, but most importantly, he’s learned how to understand some of them. For example, when he yells at Sakura his words clearly show that he understands Naruto’s pain. He compares it to a curse like what was done to him in ROOT.

Despite, his terrible social skills, he has many good qualities. He’s a diligent, selfless, patient, neat, highly intelligent and skilled ninja, who always strives to improve himself and be of use to those around him. Due to his upbringing, Sai takes his duties very seriously, and will do his best to carry out any mission given to him efficiently. He is very obedient and submissive to figures of authority. He is loyal to a fault. Blind loyalty. It was instilled in him by ROOT. However, he is slowly learning to question—at least in his mind if not out loud—irrational orders, an attribute he developed by watching Naruto and Team Kakashi.

Sai is a physical person. He likes to use all five senses including his shinobi senses in order to study another, and will often touch without permission, a trait derived from his artistic side. However, he knows he cannot observe people in this manner considering it often times invades their personal space, a concept he has yet to understand. In his studies, he’s learned that a smile puts people at ease, and so, it’s the best way to get past a difficult problem. A smile can fool anyone—a useful skill to any ninja, and although he doesn’t use his fake smiles all the time now, there are times they will still slip across his face.

At the core of himself, when all his ROOT training has been removed, Sai is essentially an intelligent artist, who perceives art as an imitation of a form. Art has the power to stir emotion, and therefore dangerous just like his own art is dangerous. His art is a copy of a Form. He doesn't have to feel true emotions in order to produce it. Without feeling emotions, he won't ever be able to produce true art. Adding to that, it seems the passion behind a painting can add to its power as seen when he made the two human figures (The Benevolent Kings) that held enough physical power to catapult both Deidara and Sasori into Kankurou’s trap (after his timeline). It is possible that he infused extra chakra into his ink when he became passionate/emotional, which would account for the extra strength his two creations held during that strike. However, this display of emotions takes place in a later canon point. Until he can feel real/acknowledge his emotions, his art may then also begin to grow.

Despite his strict upbringing, Sai has a few canon hobbies which include drawing pictures, painting, and calligraphy. At first glance, it is difficult to tell whether he enjoys painting or if he does it simply for training purposes. He says he has no emotional attachment to any of his paintings and has never named one. The only personal item that seems to have any significance to him is an old Picture Book he made as a present to his older brother when he was younger. The book is the tangible evidence of his bond to Shin, and thus, precious to him. When not busy with his duties, Sai can be found reading a book on social interactions or with a brush in his hand, painting away.

Sai uses his chakra to perform mystical ninja arts or jutsu’s in battle. He’s skilled at hand-to-hand combat (taijutsu), and ninjutsu. He’s both a close-range and long-range fighter. He’s a well-rounded fighter scoring an aptitude of 3 or higher (out of 5) in his Ninja Aptitude Guide (see table).

Sai’s specialized ninjutsu is called “Great Beasts Paintings”. By infusing his chakra directly into his ink, he can animate any drawings he creates. He uses this technique for spying, fighting, and transport.

For spying purposes, Sai has the ability to write messages that deliver themselves. His writing lifts from the page and reconstructs itself into an animal allowing it to travel unnoticed to another location. Once it reaches its destination, the animal reforms back into its original message. In this format, he can pass on important information without the risk of it falling into the wrong hands. If the animal is intercepted it would splatter back into regular ink destroying the message with it. This ability is one of the reasons why he’s an ideal candidate for both reconnaissance and espionage missions.

Aside from reconnaissance work, Sai’s ninjutsu is also very effective in battle. The skilled artist has an amazing drawing speed. For instance, he can draw about a dozen fuu dogs in two seconds. Once they are drawn, he can quickly animate them, and has the ability to command them two ways: 1) directly which he does by commanding their every move, or by 2) issuing them an order and giving them free reign to complete the order. In addition, Sai can create large scale drawings that contain a great amount of physical power. For example, the two human figures (“Benevolent Kings”) he used to help take down Deidara and Sasori (after his timeline).

For transportation purposes, the leaf nin mainly uses large birds for aerial travel. He can use exploding tags with his ink ninjutsu to launch an explosive aerial attack with his birds. Furthermore, Sai can create clones of himself from his ink, and has the ability to body flicker or teleport using his ink. He can also create inanimate objects like the umbrella he made to protect himself from the rain. Basically, anything he can imagine and draw on paper, he can bring to life, making each creation as strong as the amount of chakra he pours into it.

Sai is an earth type user. Considering his main weapon (ink) is derived from the earth, Sai has an affinity for that element. In canon, he’s shown literally melting into the earth and hiding there when his clone went in his place to greet Orochimaru during the Sasuke Retrieval arc. This derivation is also confirmed in the data book. In addition to his ANBU training, Sai received Fūinjutsu (Sealing Techniques) training in ROOT. He’s seen using this technique during the Ninja War (after his timeline). He uses a paint brush taller than himself to draw a life-sized tiger on a large scroll. When completed, the tiger leaps from the scroll and drags the enemy into the scroll sealing them there. The sealing technique is one of the few jutsus’s able to seal away the ninjas brought back by Kabuto’s Impure World Resurrection technique. This combined with the rest of his skills, is the reason why Danzou calls him the strongest of his generation, and is one of his most prized soldiers.

Sai’s ninjutsu relies on the amount of chakra he infuses into each drawing. Furthermore, if he’s physically knocked out his drawings will also be affected, dispersing back into ink, as seen when Sakura knocked the real Sai out with a sleep bomb, which in turn caused his ink clone to disappear. Although in fit condition even by shinobi standards, Sai’s strength, speed, and stamina are all about average as seen in his ninja aptitude guide. However, his ninjutsu and handseals are well above average, and when combined with his artistic gift, it accounts for his unique use of it.

He sat by the lake with a small sketch pad in his hand. Dark eyes stared at the opaque water in silent contemplation before his fingers began to move, dragging the charcoal pencil across the page in a precise manner. He took his time, allowing his hand to move instinctually across the page. He sat in silence his mind consumed by the image slowly coming to life. Time passed as he lost himself in his own world. A world that offered him a moment’s peace, where he had no orders, no responsibilities, no need to take on fake expressions.

He was free.

It wasn’t until he heard the silent laughter of his teammate’s approach that his hand finally ceased its movements. He lifted his face, his ears picking up Naruto’s jubilant voice as he tried to get Sakura’s attention. Without a word he closed the sketchpad and methodically gathered up his things, putting them away in his small black backpack. By the time he finished, his teammates had rounded a corner, coming into view. He greeted them with a standard greeting he'd read in a book, and when he received a positive reception, he made a mental note to read over the book and look for similar examples. He walked with them, observing their behavior in silence as he often did. Time passed in this manner until he finally decided to practice what he’d learned the day before. Clearing his throat, he took a step toward them, a gesture that caught the attention of the two. They looked at him in expectation. His gaze shifted down then, while his index finger scratched at his cheek, which earned him a strange look from the pair.

“May I join your conversation?” he asked them.

Silence was his answer, which only made him nervous when they kept giving him the same odd look. Had he asked wrong? But the book had said he should politely insert himself into conversations in order to be welcomed and not considered rude. He knew his requests didn’t always come out right, but he didn’t know any other way to “politely” insert himself. And as the silence dragged on, he began to question himself. Had he asked the wrong way? Should he have waited longer? Should he have apologized for interrupting them first, and then asked to join? This and many similar questions went through his mind as he waited for a response.

Finally, it was Naruto who answered, the odd look he’d given him replaced by one of confidence as he told him he didn’t need to ask for things like that, and Sakura’s strange look also transformed into one of patience as she explained Naruto’s words in a more concise manner as she told him he could talk to them whenever he wanted too. Relieved by their responses, Sai had a nice conversation with his teammates until he decided to use Ino’s nickname for Sakura—Forehead Girl. Considering his own nickname for her had ended with fists being thrown his way, Sai decided to use an already established nickname given by a friend. But to his surprise, he was soon dodging Sakura’s chakra enhanced fists, as she angrily yelled at him.

“---!”

He immediately took to the trees, jumping away from the enraged woman, and quickly went over the manner he’d used the nickname. Given that Ino was one of her childhood friends, he assumed the nickname itself was not the reason for this explosion, but the delivery. As he continued to dodge her fiery temper, Sai made sure not to let her land a hit. One hit from her deadly fists would do considerable damage to him, and he didn’t trust her in this state to pull back her punches. As he continued to evade her, he made a mental note to work on his delivery. Next time, he would get it right.

Leorio Paladiknight | Hunter x Hunter | Reserved

[personal profile] caringdoctor 2014-01-09 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Name: Aka
Contact Info: akayashi @ gmail/plurk/aim
Other Characters Played: None! First timer here.
Preferred Apartment: None.

Character Name: Leorio Paladiknight
Canon: Hunter x Hunter
Canon Point: After YorkNew arc, before the Inflitration Arc.
Background/History: Leorio @ Hunter x Hunter wikia.

Personality: Leorio is one of the four main characters of Hunter x Hunter. Despite his looks and height, he is actually a teenager who, along with Gon, Killua and Kurapika wants to pass the Hunter exam to obtain a Hunter license.

His first appearance in the series is a rather misleading one. At the beginning of the Hunter Exam arc, Leorio claims he wants to pass the world-renowned yet lethal Hunter exam because he wants money. Money, he exclaims enthusiastically, is good for buying a nice car, a big mansion and good booze. Such an introduction not only makes him look like an ill-mannered, money-obsessed, arrogant simpleton, it also causes him to get into a fight with Kurapika.

However, there is definitely much more to him than what his deceitful first appearance shows. After he befriends Gon and Kurapika and he grows closer to them, Leorio tells Kurapika exactly why he is so desperate to obtain money. When he was at a young age, Leorio’s childhood friend died of an illness, one that could have been avoided had he had the money to pay for the surgery to treat it. It's often implied that both Leorio and his friend were very poor. Surgery was not affordable, hence not possible and thus it led to his friend's passing away.

Leorio carries the guilt and resentment of not being able to save his friend and believes that, in a cruel world where absolutely everything, even dreams and lives, can be bought with the right amount of cash, he can make a difference. He wants to help the poor and save those who can't afford medical treatment. This is when we learn his rather superficial intentions have a noble justification. However, although his intentions are honorable, attending med school costs money, which he doesn't have. This leaves him with one single and rather difficult option: to pass the Hunter exam and become a Hunter. There are many benefits to having a Hunter license; the most important one being that having such a license would let him attend medical school for free. Leorio’s goal, then, is to study to become a doctor and treat other people for free, simply because if someone had shown some compassion and helped him when he was a kid his friend would still be alive.

It is important to understand that, aside form his goal, Leorio has a big deal of empathy and caring towards others, most likely product of his sad past. That is why he tends to act as the big brother of the group; the other 3 kids he travels with are too stubborn and brash, and if they don't take care of themselves, he will at least attempt to knock some sense into them. He truly cares and worries about them.

That is why although his dream of becoming a doctor will always be top priority for him, nothing is more important to him than his friends and those he cares about. Leorio is brave, loyal and very caring, yet, as sentimental as he might be he rarely ever lets emotions cloud his mind when it comes to making a sound decision.

Of course, not everything that is gold shines— although a good man in overall, Leorio has a few bad traits worth of being mentioned. First of all, he is rather impulsive, brash and quick to jump to conclusions, which often leads to trouble for the others and, whether for good or bad, he tends to be too direct and honest. He also seems to be sensitive and reacts strongly towards those who don’t take him seriously or who look down on him, as evidenced by the initial spat he had with Kurapika.

Leorio is quick to be misguided by appearances and tends to take the common or easy way out. One key scene would be the one where Leorio gambles the group's victory in a match of the Hunter exam. It becomes obvious to their opponent and his teammates that Leorio doesn't like risks. One of them comments on this: "You can't win if you play it safe. Only those who risk everything win the game." Leorio wanted victory but unlike Kurapika, he didn't want to risk the group's opportunity to pass. It was his obligation to win so he, in his eyes, had no option but to play safe for the sake of others.

In terms of aptitude, Leorio is more of a street-smart person. He is extroverted, approachable and has shown excellent notions for business and haggling. He also has a weakness for pretty ladies. Yet, despite seeming so average and being so shadowed by combats geniuses like Gon and Killua, Leorio has shown to hold his ground against them since he is physically stronger and resilient than most average persons, preferring to fight bare-handed or with a dagger he always carries with himself.

As an ending note, Senritsu/Melody, another character in Hunter x Hunter even tells him that, out of everyone, Leorio has "the nicest heartbeat", one suited more for a good-willed doctor rather than that of a Hunter.

Abilities/Powers: Characters in Hunter x Hunter have special abilities that are developed using an ability of aura-energy called 'Nen'. Though by this point in canon the three main characters have developed strong Nen skills, Leorio chose to focus on his medicine studies, and didn't have the time to develop these skills. As of now, he doesn't have any remarkable Nen technique. He is aware it exists but he doesn't know how to use it, making him the only character that has to rely on nothing but his physical strength to survive.

Items/Weapons: The dagger he fights with, his suitcase with medical supplies (those of a first aid kit) and his hunter license.

Lucina | Fire Emblem: Awakening | Reserved

[personal profile] challengedfate 2014-01-09 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Like the rest of the children from her future, Lucina’s life was full of hardships after Grima woke and both her Mother and Father both died. These hardships are what shaped her into the strong, loving woman she’s become.

In her own time, Lucina has faced many hardships and, unlike the child Lucina that is born into the game's timeline, has grown up knowing nothing but evil and the dangers and destruction that that evil had brought into the world. As a result, this has made her hold an attitude more serious and grim than most and rightfully so. As someone who comes from such a dark time and knows what the future will bring, Lucina sees the dire straits in the situations they find themselves in. So with every repeat, misstep, and bad thing that happens, she thinks of them as stepping closer to a fate similar to the one in which she left. This is shown several times throughout the main story and even her supports, like when Basilio died and in her support with Inigo when they came across a pillaged village. And often times it’s these mistakes that she takes responsibility for, considering them failures on her part from preventing them. It’s this grave way of thinking that often times Lucina doesn’t understand has a negative effect on others, especially since she’s seen as a leader. This is pointed out mainly throughout her support with Inigo and Cynthia. Throughout Inigo's support he tells her that her emotions reflect and effect others and through Cynthia's, she tells her that as their leader, she affects the groups morale.

To go along with her serious nature, Lucina is also incredibly straightforward and a realist. She doesn’t sugar coat dark matters and is fairly blunt about them. Using her knowledge of the future, she isn’t afraid to tell people that they will die if they do certain things or go somewhere where, in her own time, they had died once before. She did this for Basilio, Emmeryn (through telling Chrom of her imminent death), and even Chrom himself. Another good example of her straightforwardness would be in her support with her sibling (in this case, Morgan). When he brings up never holding Falchion, it occurs to her that they don’t know if he is worthy enough to wield it. So she tells him that they must find out if he is in case she were to die in battle. When he objects and tells her that there’s no way he could practice for her death, she tells him that they need to be practical and there are no guarantees that she will survive during the war and they need to be prepared if she doesn’t.

Despite her grimness and stoicism, Lucina is deeply caring. Through her blunt words and dark way of thinking, Lucina is kind and cares deeply for her people and especially the children who look to her as their leader. In her supports with them, Lucina will go out of her way to spend time with them, even if it’s time spent doing nothing, simply talking or doing silly things that would usually be seen as pointless to her. In the Future Past DLC, the children call Lucina out when she arrives to meet with them, despite not being invited, telling her she was reckless to come out alone and leave the castle when she shouldn’t. To which she told them that she wouldn’t miss the chance to meet with the friends she hadn’t seen in so long. Though it’s also because she cares about them so much that sometimes she’ll make misguided decisions. A good example of this is in her support with Laurent, when he notices she’s injured and she tells him she told no one nor got it healed in order not to needlessly worry anyone.

Despite her rough life, Lucina maintains hope for a better future throughout the game. In fact it is the very thing that drove her to go back in time, because she had hope that she could change fate. She constantly strives to achieve a future better than her own, always taking every chance she can to stop events and even certain deaths from taking place, such as Emmeryn’s assassination and Basilio’s death by Walhart, in order to divert fate from its original course. Even in her own time, Lucina tried to maintain hope in her troops and people by fighting back against Grima and encouraging them to fight on so he wouldn’t win.

Lucina is fiercely protective of her father, Chrom. She loves him and considers him to be the most precious person who she can't bear to lose. It’s more than evident that as a child she had a close bond with him and still thinks and clings to the idea of having a close father and daughter relationship, especially since he died when she was so young. In her support with Chrom, she mentions that in her own time, when he was alive, he would tell her little secrets. However mundane and unimportant they were, she considered them to be treasured memories. She also says that he had been the one who taught her how to fight with a sword, her main weapon. In the Future Past DLC when Chrom speaks to her, she says "You have burned brightly in my memory since the moment I lost you."

And because he remains so important to her, several times throughout the game Lucina goes out of her way to protect him and even objects and speaks up with worry at many of his decisions if they mean putting him in harm’s way. One notable time was when he talked about the awakening ritual and she asked him if he had to do it when she heard that he could die if not deemed worthy by Naga. Another would be when she snuck into Ylisstol to stop an assassin from attacking him. There isn’t one thing Lucina wouldn’t risk or do to protect Chrom and keep him from dying again, even willing to go so far as to pointing a sword at her mother with the intent to kill her after figuring out that she was the one who killed him in her own time and this time again.

But of course, this doesn't mean Lucina hates or dislikes her mother. She loves her as much as she loves Chrom. In fact, in that very scene, Lucina lowers her sword, finding herself unable to go through with her initial plan because she loves her too much. She tells her multiple times, both in the main story and in their support that she had missed her mother and being with her again is like a dream come true. In Future Past, when Robin speaks to Lucina, Lucina tells her that she had missed her mother’s strength, wisdom and guiding hands.

Because Lucina loves and missed her parents so much, when it comes to spending time with them she loses her usual serious attitude and acts more carefree, playful and even a little childish. She insists upon it as much as she can without feeling as though she’s troubling them. Like in her support with Chrom when she asks him to give her lessons on how to fight with a sword, even though she knows how to fight well enough on her own, and pulls out two swords she had with her to practice without knowing what his answer would be. She also tells Robin that such simple pleasures like going out shopping with her is something she has always dreamed of. She wishes to know all that she can about her parents, even begging Chrom to tell her of the time they met despite his protests.

But even though Lucina craves spending time with her beloved parents, she acknowledges herself that she isn’t their real daughter and thinks of herself as a burden to them, despite Chrom and Robin both constantly telling her otherwise. She often tells them both that after the war is over she will leave them to their lives with their real daughter, which, in her solo ending, she does. Despite her words and promises of leaving them alone however, Lucina is deeply jealous of her younger self. As silly as she finds it, she feels envious that her younger self can grow up with the two loving parents, who always think of her, that she could not and knows she must give them up to her. This she tells to Robin in their final support.

Abilities/Powers: As someone who has spent much of her life in a dangerous world where fighting was necessary to stay alive, it’s safe to say that Lucina is a skilled fighter who can hold her own. She is up to par with Chrom in terms of sword fighting skills and can even surpass him in a sword fight. In their support she actually throws the fight and lets him win so that they can continue fighting lessons. In the Future Past DLC she and Severa talk about her skills and Severa says “Ha! If they think the exalt's an easy target, they're in for a nasty surprise. You don't even need pegasus knights, do you? Not really.”

Lucina’s default class is a “lord” class but will be a “Great Lord” with the canon point I’m taking her from. A great lord is able to handle both swords and lances and by default Lucina holds up well in strength, speed and skill. And here are also the skills she is able to hold in game as a Great Lord and as Robin and Chrom's daughter;

Dual Strike+: Increases the trigger rate of Dual Strikes by 10%. So basically this would just mean she has a better chance at working together to defeat enemies with an ally more often.

Charm: Grants hit/avo +5 to all allies within three spaces. This would mean that anyone who’s in a close range of her would be able to avoid enemy attacks and have a better chance at hitting an enemy.

Aether: Use Sol and Luna in succession. (I’ll explain Sol and Luna first—Sol: Absorb HP equal to half damage dealt and Luna: Halve enemy def/res when attacking) So all in all this would mean that Lucina would be able to attack twice, her first attack allowing her to gain some health back as she attacked and her second would weaken the enemy as she attacked.

Ignis: Add half Mag or Str to the value. Essentially this just means that she would have a stronger attack.

Rightful King: Increases the trigger rate of the unit’s skills by 10%. Pretty much this means she just has a better chance at using the skills like Aether and Ignis more often.

Items/Weapons: (Parallel) Falchion, her butterfly mask and a rapier
Sample Entry: Musebox thread!
Sample Entry Two: It was late at night when Lucina woke in her tent in a cold sweat. The night was warm and silent, filled with nothing but the crackling of the fire outside and the insects around them.  Lucina only heard her own heartbeat drumming loudly in her ears and felt nothing but a cold breeze wash over her. Her hand clutched at the sword that rested beside her bed, the feeling of Grima’s breath in her face and fear still gripping at her mind as she slowly returned from her nightmare.

Nightmares have never been foreign to Lucina. No, they came to her more often than not. And it was all of Grima. He haunted her memories and her thoughts, he followed her into her only what was supposed to be safe haven . But not even sleep could grant her peace anymore. It never could. Even when she lived in the very nightmare itself, sleep was never kind.

Lucina sat up slowly in her bed, running her fingers through her blue hair before resting her face in her hands. Over and over again, she would dream of her own time, her own world, and she would dream of her mistakes. She would dream of death, the very look in Grima’s eyes as he stared down at her when all hope seemed to be lost, she would dream of the fire that covered Ylisstol, and she would dream of Basilio, Emmeryn… and Chrom. Her mistakes repeated in her mind even with all the time that had passed, time had mocked her, weaved its way past her efforts to divert fate from its original course and proved her it was all for naught.

She took a deep, shaky breath, allowing the warm Ylissian air to fill her lungs before she turned her head to gaze over at Falchion, which lay beside her. Ylisse’s national treasure, her father’s memento, all she had left of the kind and strong exalt, the father from her own time. It was her own treasure. With a trembling hand, Lucina reached over and picked the sword up she had been clutching before, her fingers dancing on the red hilt before pulling it from its sheath.  After a moment, her grip on it was strong and her blue eyes close, resting her forehead, still damp with sweat, against the cold blade. But she couldn’t lose faith.

She wouldn’t let Grima return. She wouldn’t let her father die. Not again.

Character Name: Kazuto Kirigaya, "Kirito" (In-game name)
Canon: Sword Art Online
Canon Point: Light Novel, Volume 13 Chapter 11, When Alice is receiving a «System Alert»
Background/History: Link Here

Personality:
Kirito is annoying. Kirito is a cool guy. Kirito could be both of them too. People's general first impression of him tends to lean towards positive or neutral judging thanks to how he acts. First of all, he's quick to approach you when he notices that you're in trouble before offering you help, just like some veteran players in any average MMO. Or he could just let loose some snide remark if you happened to be his friend, and he'd still help you anyways. Compared to his portrayal in the SAO arc and ALO arc, Kirito has chilled down from his time-pressed driven self, but that doesn't mean that part of him has been lost completely.

Whenever Kirito has a goal in his mind, without a doubt he'll devote his mind to achieving it. Even if he needs to focus on other things, there's always some parts of his mind thinking about said goal. Whether it's escaping from the Death Game known as Sword Art Online or getting Asuna back from the clutches of Sugou, he puts the main goals in the forefront of his thought and the others on the back of his head, clearing those minor goals whenever he could and still putting effort on his main goal. In a sense, Kirito has some weird tunnel-vision when it comes to his goals. That in itself is another cause for the problems he's encountered throughout his life.

Distancing people tends to be something Kirito is well-known for back in his Aincrad days. Being a solo player during the period of time the «Death Game» was taking place, he tends to prefer to work alone unless his partner is one of his close acquaintances. Nowadays he's not averse to working in parties, but still for most of the times keep his own thoughts to himself. In the Underworld arc, it's quite obvious that he's keeping the truth of the world to the others. Compounded with that is the fact that he's keeping secrets from Eugeo about his real reason of climbing the tower.

Guilt is another concept that Kirito's awfully familiar with. During the duration of Sword Art Online's service, Kirito's reason for becoming a Solo Player is partly because of his need for efficiency. The other part that he rarely disclosed to anyone but his closest friends is the fact that he doesn't want to people to die around him. This was due to the fact that he got all his guild members killed due to his failure of disclosing complete information about himself. The loss of a certain member called Sachi was what caused him to be obsessed with finding an event item that's said to be able to revive a killed person. During that period of time Kirito's eyes were completely empty and soulless, the immense guilt having eaten him over completely.

To others close to him, Kirito's definitely gentler, in a sense. He's more likely to tease them as well as act a bit more open to them. While that doesn't mean he's readily sharing secrets with them, it does mean that Kirito at least trusts them enough to show parts of his true emotions to them. It's readily obvious that Kirito's willing to go through hell and back for his loved ones and close comrades. This is shown by how he aimed to clear Alfheim Online's main objective to save Asuna, as well as getting out of the Underworld as soon as possible so as to not worry his friends. If you thought his tunnel-vision towards his goals were bad, it's worse when it involves his friends. It's shown that if you harm them, he's not going to hesitate to kill you without second thoughts.

Even with his capability of holding his temper in check in daily situations, it's surprisingly easy to get Kirito to snap into anger. Threatening his friends with words or insulting them in front of him usually triggers this response. Another possibility is to be as much of a villain as possible, or to have tricked everyone in a massive scale of one's true intention. Without a doubt that while Kirito's already an impressive fighter during his normal state, it doesn't compare to his berserker-like strikes and ruthlessness when he's angered. The fact that he can't lose any more loved ones also served as an impetus for him to end fights as quickly as possible when pressured. This attributed to his precise commands for his skills as well as his movements in the fight, so as to end it within a few strikes.

Abilities/Powers:
Sword Skills:
Within the Underworld, besides the proficiency of wielding Sword-type weapons, Kirito has access to several «Secret Art Finishing Moves» basically «secret moves» that works as your standard MMO skills in layman's term. Considering that these moves are just the same moves that SAO had when its server was active only with different names, Kirito can use them without even learning them.

Of course Underworld has it's limitation in the sense that you need a certain level Object Control Authority to even be able to use 1-hit skills, and even more for multi-hit skills. As of right now Kirito has only access to 4-hit skills.

Currently, Kirito has his own style of fighting different than those established within the world, even though they came from the same source. Kirito's style is called 'Aincrad-style' after the same world these «secret moves» came from. The skills that have been used so far during his stay in the Underworld are as follows:

Sharp Nail - (3-hit combo)
Sonic Leap - (1-hit strike) a charge-type sword skill that dashes toward the enemy to deal a downward strike
Horizontal - (1-hit strike) a simple sword skill slashing horizontally
Snake Bite - (2-hit combo) two left and right swings that target the opponent's weapon, with a chance of breaking the weapon.
Vertical Square - (4-hit combo) a mid-level sword skill tracing the shape of a square.
Spinning Shield - (defensive skill) a skill that spun the player's sword, creating a pseudo-defensive barrier.

Sacred Arts:
Magic. Well, it would be magic if it's invoked in a normal way, but for the most part these are what pass as them within the world. Using the command «System Call» and «generate (x) element» will cause said element to appear from thin air. In layman's term, they generate these very elements with a partial admin command, as several other individuals are able to access this very ability too.

The element variables that could be used with « generate (x) element » are:
‣ aerial (wind)
‣ aquarius (water)
‣ cryogenic (ice)
‣ luminous (light)
‣ metallic (metal)
‣ thermal (fire)
‣ umbra (darkness)

Incarnation: The capability of overwriting certain system parameters with the power of the mind, in other words, using imagination to rewrite reality. Kirito's not really able to use this power yet, but it's just mentioned in case in-game happenings enabled him to access this power.

Items/Weapons:
Wooden Sword/ "The Black One":
As of his current point, he now has his sword made from a branch of the Giga Cedar. It's unnamed as of yet, but it's a black colored sword.

Sample Entry: Here!

Sample Entry Two:
Kirito felt it, the ringing of the shadow blade he had been learning to use as he clashed against the monster before him. Familiar and yet not, the being called «Gleam Eyes» stared him down as if he was an old friend and enemy at the same time. He wanted to laugh at the irony of their encounter, one seeking a ghostly vengeance of long past, while the other is reminded of the nightmare he managed to escape from. In any case, it was no use running now, that thing's «SPD» greatly outnumbered his when it came to running away in this tunnel. Staring at each other in a stalemate, both monster and human stayed still, waiting on whoever took the bait first.

The monster rushed forward.

Ah, he could hear another roar as the monster charged at him, intent to kill clearly written on its face as it swung its all too massive sword at his general direction. Of course, he couldn't just take it directly, so as the swing got ever closer to his face... he moved his sword at the general direction alongside the swing as he jumped to the side, parrying it with not a time to spare. Normally he would've blocked with his second sword, but since this isn't «Aincrad's» system, all he could do was that.
