Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:

Abilities/Powers:
Well. See. About Sebastian's powers...

Sebastian's abilities are not very clearly defined, and are more likely vaguely handwaved because he seems to be capable of everything. There hasn't been a situation in the manga that Sebastian has simply been unable to handle, even to ridiculous levels, so rather than giving a clearly defined list, I have to vaguely wave my hand in terms of what he does.

That said, there are a couple abilities that Sebastian has that are well enough shown that I can at least give a bulleted list for his basic abilities.
  • Super Strength/Speed/Sense/Etc.: As expected from a demon, Sebastian has heighted, well, everything. He's capable of simply running long distances without tiring, pulling along horse carriages himself no problem, and otherwise just doing impossible feats of strength/agility/what have you. In terms of heightened sense, Sebastian is also able to sense souls, though it seems to be not with any identification of who the soul belongs to.
  • Matter Creation: This is the one that I have to vaguely wave my hand at the most, since Sebastian is capable of creating an elaborate meal or fixing up a ruined mansion in the blink of an eye, and with the only imperfections being in terms of his lack of knowledge (such as the taste of the food). It doesn't seem to have any restraints, since he's able to fix the manor from major damage repeatedly and have it be lasting, so. Who knows.
  • Immortality: As far as we know, Sebastian seems to be immortal. He can take major damage and not be very worried about it (such a scythe through his chest) and otherwise be injured repeatedly and not suffer ill-effects from it. The exception is with items specifically made to slay demons or a Grim Reaper/Shinigami's weapon, which seem to affect him more, but still not very much.

Items/Weapons:
1. A set (x12) of fine silverware knives, very sharp.
2. An extra suit.
3. A pocketwatch (sans numbers, of course)
cutlery: (DON'T YOU TOUCH HER PUPPIES)

Sample Entry:
A thread on bakerstreet!

Sample Entry Two:
When he wakes, that's enough for Sebastian to evaluate the situation in a moment.

He stands from the bunk bed and turns off the ringing alarm clock, observes the room, then steps out into the common area to continue with his observation. For all purposes, it would seem that he's been here for a long time already, since he certainly doesn't appear to be bothered. It's like the butler rising for a day of work, and it seems that he's not worried in the slightest.

But immediately, two things were very clear to Sebastian.

One, whoever had brought him here was a powerful being in their own right. Demons didn't sleep—It was a luxury that he didn't care for at all. To be forced into a sleep, to awake at all, was a sign enough that there was something even more powerful than he was in charge. Two, Ciel was not here. A demon's contract was a powerful thing, and it was enough for Sebastian to be immediately aware that his contractor was nowhere to be found that he could sense. It was something that would be as clear as if Ciel were standing in front of him if he were, and that is...

...Well, it's not exactly troubling, if he's honest.

It's irritating, though. There was a mutual benefit to the terms of their contract, because Ciel's safety was a natural thing that Sebastian wishes to protect. If he weren't by his side to protect him, then his insurance on his soul was effectively lost. He moves to the window to view the sign that looms over Haven, then sighs, because it provides no more context than perhaps a name. It would be easy enough to perhaps use brute force to figure out where he was, and maybe even intimidate someone into returning him to Ciel's side.

But another thing that was almost immediately apparent to him was the amount of humans (and others, perhaps) here. In their case, it was always easier to win them over with sweet words rather than aggression. There's another light sigh as he considers that, since truly, how irritating, but it's quickly followed by a graceful, charming smile.

The role of a butler had suited him well thus far. He was sure it would continue to serve him well to obtain the answers he needed.

Character Name: The Narrator
Canon: The Stanley Parable
Canon Point: THIS IS A...COMPLICATED QUESTION. The Stanley Parable isn't exactly a linear story (more like one story with a bunch of different branches that lead to different endings), therefore there really is no canon "point" one could take him from. For reference's sake, I'll just say that he'll come right after the Confusion ending, where his memories have been wiped of that ending.
Background/History: Here you go.

Personality:
It sounds like nothing more than a question you ask as part of a party game to hear the hilarious answers your friends will give - what if, one day, you woke up, and your whole life was narrated, like it was nothing more than a story?

It's amusing to think about, you might say, as you run through the mental image of such a strange occurrence. The narrator would discuss your morning routine, what you were thinking as you looked in the mirror to groan at your bedraggled bed hair, what breakfast foods you were having, and whatnot. Still rather amusing to think about. Let's keep going. You go out, ready to start the day, when suddenly a good friend you have known for many years runs up to you to say hello.

And you then punch your dearest friend in the face, the narrator says.

Of course, this would make you pause. Why should you punch your friend? They did nothing wrong. But the narrator repeats it again. You punch your friend in the face. As you stand there, confused, the narrator speaks again, but this time, asking you why you aren't doing what you were narrated to do. This is a story, after all - why are you going to go against it? Why, he has plans for you. You're the hero of this story, and this needs to happen...or are you going to go back to your boring little life?

...Suddenly, having a narrator doesn't seem so funny anymore.

The Narrator is a literal embodiment of that idea, a being who only exists to bring the story he's worked so hard on into existence. He is the narrator of a story who can and will talk back if you don't go along with his story. Oh, he'll narrate, but if you even decide to take the wrong choice, he will snark at you, snap at you, get frustrated with you, and generally do anything in the hopes that you will listen to reason and follow his narration like he planned.

The Narrator doesn't understand free will, after all. It boggles his mind to try to understand why human beings are so contradictory, so frustratingly oblivious to the fact that their own choices can actually lead them into the worst situations imaginable. After all, the ending that occurs if you follow the Narrator's narration exactly is undoubtedly the happiest one for the protagonist of the game, in which he escapes his office building, now free of his boss' mind control. The other endings are...less happy. The more the player tries to wriggle out of the Narrator's control, the worse the endings get, from an ending where Stanley dies to an ending where the entire game glitches and restarts itself because it can't handle the choices the player makes. Does one choose an ending where one can make choices they want to, even if it means their horrible end, or an ending where all "choice" is chosen for you ahead of time, which leads to a peaceful, happy ending? The Narrator certainly thinks the latter, and he will do anything, and that means anything, to get the ending he feels he deserves to see.

For the Narrator is just not all bark and no bite. Yes, he'll snark and insult the player (or any other person, really) if they don't do what he wants, but if he's tipped to a breaking point...well, then things get decidedly more vicious. The Narrator has no qualms in literally destroying people, whether by forcing Stanley to essentially kill himself or whether by destroying him by exploding him and the entire building. In the latter scenario, The Narrator happily admits that he's done things like letting Stanley die alone, erased his coworkers from existence, and let the entire building sink into the ground. He even goes as far to make the player think they have a chance at stopping him (by adding time to the countdown), all before pulling the metaphorical rug underneath their feet to show them that no, they're nothing, they can do nothing, and in the end, their attempts at controlling the story only led them to an early grave.

It's easy to say that the Narrator is the antagonist of this story. Of course he is - he wants you to give up free will, he destroys you, he insults you and generally makes your life miserable...until you consider the fact that the Narrator is just as trapped by the game as Stanley, the protagonist is. In a few endings, it's made clear that part of the Narrator is the opposite of happy about the fact that he has to repeat this story, over and over, even if the player makes the "right" choices. The story can't exist without him, but he can't exist without his story. Because what is a Narrator without nothing to narrate? And even then, there's something pitiful about that when you realize that the Narrator is completely conflicted about his existence. When the player discovers a strange room with glowing lights, the Narrator marvels in it, before being extraordinarily upset when Stanley leaves - it was his only chance to finally escape from his Groundhog Day-like existence, even if it meant standing in a room full of lights and never leaving. In another ending, the game plays him just like he plays with the player, outlining things about how the Narrator loses his memories of some endings, and how he's just as much of a pawn as Stanley is. Another ending removes the player entirely, and one can hear the Narrator pleading with Stanley, now an unmovable pawn, to continue his story, because without it, he doesn't know what to do. The Narrator is a selfish almost-god who could care less about human life, but he's constricted by the fact that he's nothing but a game construct forced to play the game over and over and over and over and over and over... Although his need to break free is buried deep down, and he'll still go at his job with as much relish as he can muster up, perhaps, if things change, he'll finally realize that free will really is all that it's cracked up to be.

[personal profile] theendisnevertheend 2014-02-27 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Abilities/Powers: The Narrator is a disembodied voice. Literally. You never see him and you never get a sense that he's a physical entity, as the way he influences Stanley and his environment rely on no physical movements. The way he talks about people (calling them humans) suggests that he isn't human himself, if he's distancing himself from them. Since he needs to have a physical presence in Haven, I'll choose something as close to his original incarnation as possible - an invisible, vaguely humanoid spirit form. Conventional weapons will mostly go through him (even if they will hurt a bit), but he can still be killed by things like magic and electricity. He can pick up things and touch things with this new body, but will still be invisible (if a character can see invisible objects, he'll just come up as a humanoid haze of sorts).

The Narrator does lean and break through and even jump back and forth through the hole in the fourth wall several times during the game: talking to the player controlling Stanley, remarking about achievements and endings the player is trying to get, and sometimes remarking about ways the player tries to break the game (if the player cheats in a certain way, the Narrator takes notice of that and locks them up in a room to "think about their actions".) In Haven, he'll probably think that the setting is a video game, though his powers of forth-wall breaking will be limited to just that. He'll call death "respawning", Kite an NPC, and so on and so forth. He'll make vague references to other games if he feels like it, though he doesn't have a very thorough knowledge of them to begin with. For example, Pokemon might be referred to as "that game where you use monsters to fight against each other", but even these will be far and in between, as the Narrator has been mostly restricted to his own game for the majority of his existence. Therefore, he won't recognize characters, he'll just behave as if the setting is a video game and the other characters are the "protagonists" he needs to narrate for. (I'd like, with your permission, of course, for him to recognize Pyramid Head as a copyright violation, as in his sample down below - he won't know the name of the game Pyramid Head is from, but will just know that this is NOT the horror game Pyramid Head belongs to.)

The Narrator was practically a god when it came to his own game - he could manipulate the environment how he saw fit (if it wasn't manipulating him) - he could make Stanley appear in different places, start a countdown for a bomb going off just because he felt like it, and overall had control over everything (except for Stanley, of course, though even this is debatable as there is an ending where the Narrator induces Stanley to perform suicide). In Haven, this reality-warping power will be diminished, as Haven isn't his "game". He'll still be able to do minor things such as bring in random small things such as office supplies (the writing utensils will not work, of course), change the color of things, and maybe make things appear where they shouldn't. He may even have some power over the layout of buildings, but these will be minor and probably not even noticeable in the long run. This power will probably grow the more he uses it (as he gets acquainted with his new "game"), but it will never reach the power he had before.

If you have any questions/concerns/want me to change anything, just tell me!
.
Items/Weapons:
Absolutely nothing at all, considering that he is nothing more than a voice who has no need for material objects of any kind.

Sample Entry: In which The Narrator complains about Haven.
Sample Entry Two:

What nonsense. What perfect nonsense.

The Narrator sniffs as he looks down below at the creature trudging about on the streets from the window of his apartment, wincing at the sound of the large sword grating on the ground behind it. Is he upset that it's a bloodthirsty monster ready to tear him apart? Is he worried about the danger it will pose? Is he concerned about the safety of all the rest of the inhabitants who will be so unlikely to survive if they meet it face to face?

Actually, he's feeling none of those things right now. The only emotion that's welling up in his non-existent chest?

Annoyance.

"You're a copyright violation, you idiotic monster! What in the world were these developers thinking, putting you in here? Were they drunk the night they decided what enemies to put in this place?" He lets out an exasperated groan. Oh, he's seen things, he really has, but this really takes the cake. "You are practically a walking lawsuit, you know! Great, just what I needed, to be put in charge of a mediocre horror game and then have you walking around as if you own the place."

The monster turns, groaning as its large head swivels in the direction of The Narrator's voice.

"That's right, you big lunk! Go back to your own game or...something, I don't know! You hear me? I have over a hundred protagonists to deal with, and you are not helping with anything."

Honestly, what did it take to get some originality around here?

Character Name: Nadia Sullivan

Background/History:
>> World Info

From the very beginning, Nadia Sullivan was given the short end of the stick. Her mother was a baker and her father was a farmer, one in a long line, from the tiny little town of Dunhill. Her mother died of complications during childbirth while having her and her twin sister, Margot.

Being born out of wedlock and having that be far more taboo in an out of way town, their father ditched both girls at an orphanage and claimed that they weren't his after his family laid on the pressure.

Of the two, Nadia was the younger one by only a few minutes and ended up suffering complications that would follow her for the rest of her life while Margot was as healthy as a horse. Throughout her childhood, she was often more susceptible to illnesses and would get sick very often, but was otherwise a normal child. Both of them grew up without any knowledge of their parents, but they had each other and the nuns at the church orphanage, so everything was okay.

Sometime around the age of five, it became quite clear that the Sullivan sisters had a way with magic. Margot was often setting things on fire and Nadia was very good at conjuring fake constructs or making herself seem invisible (it was the best way to sneak cookies, really.) Though magic was what the entire Eridian Empire was built upon, the twins seemed to be unusually adept at it for their ages. The nuns came to a decision and packed them up, shipping them off to the city of Haven. It housed an array of magical learning facilities and was one of the hotspots of the Empire, so they would be in good hands.

They ended up at the Witches' Guild. Things started off great; they were in a structured environment where they could learn the art of weaving without being too destructive and had many capable people to guide them.

For years things were normal, but it wasn't to last. One winter, Nadia fell ill, which wasn't unusual, but she kept getting sicker and sicker. She had developed a strange cough not too long ago, but how had it lead to this? It wasn't long before she was diagnosed with consumption and was told that she only had a few years to live. She would be lucky to see her twenties at best.

Nadia was devastated. It was like her future had been ripped away from her and there was no way to fight back. Magic could fight a number of illnesses, yes, and there had been many advances for a number of diseases, but it wasn't a cure all. So she withdrew, turned people away as she recovered over the months and only allowed her sister to see her.

Eventually, things returned to some sort of normalcy. Both girls stuck closer to each other, pushed away their friends (Nadia in her depression and her sister as she dedicated more and more of her time to find something, anything in the books at the library.) Time passed and, at the age of thirteen, like all Weavers, it was time to find an apprenticeship.

Though Margot was the more skilled of the two, it was Nadia that secured them an apprenticeship with one of the more renowned Weavers in the city, Charlotte Halloran. One can only get so far with their skills alone; sometimes you needed words to back you up. There they would stay for the next few years, honing their magic.

Re: Nadia Sullivan | OC | Not Reserved

[personal profile] tooshallpass 2014-02-27 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Nadia is almost the exact opposite of her twin; whereas Margot is a brute force wrecking ball, Nadia is more sensible and prefers to take a logical approach to things. Violence is something to be frowned upon and she firmly believes that everyone can get along if they all just try hard enough, darnit. Though when she is pissed off, she takes a more passive-aggressive approach to dealing with her anger ("Of course I'm not mad at you," followed by a frowning face and avoiding that person for the rest of eternity.) For minor offensives, she can become somewhat of a nag and will chide the offender, so long as the offensive is a small one. Her temper isn't as bad as her twin's, but when it's present, it's hard to miss.

Soft spoken, polite, and respectful, Nadia also gets along with people a lot better. She minds her p's and q's, and takes an interest in the people around her; each one of them has their own fascinating story and she wants to hear it. There are times where she can easily be railroaded by other people's opinions, not wanting to start an impolite argument or somesuch, but Nadia is working harder to be firmer. There's going to come a time when she has to stick up for herself and she can't rely on her sister to be her personal bodyguard forever (as much as she dislikes it.)

Even so, Nadia has a habit of keeping people at a distance and treating them more like interesting books. Handed a death sentence at a young age, she's fearful of getting too attached to others after watching how Margot has reacted to it (pushing herself to find some obscure cure, crying herself to sleep at night.) It's the last thing she wants to inflict on someone else, so she finds it easier to keep people at an arm's length away. She won't divulge too many personal details about herself and if she gets uncomfortable with sharing information, she'll try to deflect, change the subject, or give a vague non-answer. As she's gotten older, Nadia has been finding herself wanting to end this, though, and longs to be able to be happy with other people for her remaining years.

Though it's been a few years since she was diagnosed with consumption, it has had a heavy impact on her personality. At first she raged, refused to believe that something like this could happen to her before eventually accepting it with a quiet grimness. What else is there to do? She remains withdrawn from the outside world and relies a lot on her sister for things, though she resents it greatly. Though the two are close, there are times when they've come to verbal blows in recent months (Nadia wanting her to go live her life, Margot refusing to leave her side,) but they work it out quickly. They often have an us against the world mentality, but as they grow older, it's quickly falling apart and they both know and fear it.

She was once a far more cheerful person and strives to become that once again. She enjoys spending time outside when she can with her various creative hobbies or with a book, taking in the smell of the nearby sea and listening to bustle of people on the street. When Nadia is well, she volunteers at one of the local churches as a way to give back to the community by watching and telling stories to the children. It gives her some sort of normalcy for the daily grind of her magic studies and it allows her to pretend that she's just like any other normal girl (and there's also a part of her believes she's earning browning points with the Weaver.)

Nadia does also take a lot of stock in the church of their world. She goes to services whenever she can, says her prayers, and reads their world's version of the Bible. Part of her love for the church comes from the nuns that raised and took care of her as a child -- it's the very least she can do, going, and having it in her life gives her comfort. It's one of the constant things she can hang onto and it's slowly giving her back hope and allowing her to come to terms better with things.

Despite the crap hand Nadia has been dealt, she is still very firmly a teenage girl. Oftentimes she does come off more mature for her age (fifteen,) but she's not exempt from doing dumb things or having lapses in judgement. She enjoys gossiping with the shop owners when she's given errands to run, likes to moon over boys, and play matchmaker with her sister. It's her favourite hobby. She's also dedicated to her studies, is willing to put the hard work in to learn what she can, and takes pride in what she does. Again, it's one of those things that helps to take her mind off her woes and is another constant.

Abilities/Powers:
Magic
Like all Weavers, Nadia has the ability to use magic. At it's most basic, she can do very simple spells such as: finding lost objects over a short area (nothing of consequence; things like misplace shoes,) barriers of protection, simple levitation, and so on. A lot of this requires the use of a written rune system and will thus be ineffective in Haven.

Illusions
Every magic user has one area of expertise and Nadia's is with illusions. A more subtle art, it allows her the ability to conjure insubstantial constructs, trick the senses, or use it to hide by camouflaging herself. Nadia is still learning the finer intricacies of her ability, but has the potential to be quite powerful with it; some of the master illusionists can trap people in their mind either temporarily or permanently. (Though this is illegal in the Eridian Empire and Nadia would also be far too nice to do something like that.)

Using illusions does require a keen eye, though. One has to be able to recreate every aspect of an object or else it looks fake and will fall apart (such as the whorls on a wooden surface, the salt smell of the sea, etc.)

Most of the time Nadia uses her illusions to entertain the children she volunteers with, telling stories and backing them up with cartoonish visuals.

Other
Nadia is quite the little domestic goddess. Being stuck inside half the time, she's picked up skills that don't require exerting a lot of physical effort, such as knitting, sewing, cooking, and drawing. She is extremely proud of these skills, even if her sister makes jokes at her expense sometimes.

Sample Entry:
[When you grow up in a world bursting with magic, it's strange to find yourself in a place that seems almost devoid of it. She'd be more interested if she weren't so shell shocked by her arrival, the strange feeling of being well, and if this place weren't a hovel. (Not that she'd say that out loud -- it may be very nice for some people, but not to her.)

For the first days, she's stayed inside. After that, she's crept out to explore, but never goes very far. Today is one of those days she's staying inside.

Someone's had to show her how to use the cellphone, but Nadia seems to have grasped the use of it quickly. It must be a teenager thing.]

Ahm, hello? I do hope you can hear me, I've never used one of these devices before. They are quite marvelous.

[She pauses, clears her throat.]

To get introductions out of the way, I'm Nadia Sullivan. It's a pleasure to meet all of you.

I know it may be rather forward since I'm new and I've heard that rations are a bit, ah, sparse... but would anyone happen to have a packet of cocoa they would be kind enough to spare?

...I know it's silly, but it's one of my favourites. Chalk it up to homesickness, I suppose.

Sample Entry Two:
Messy. Messy, messy, messy.

Just because their house was in a veritable hellhole didn't mean that her roommates had to make their living space reflect the rest of the city. Where was the pride in their surroundings? Yes, things were broken, gross, but no one had to contribute to it. For Saints' sake, no one even made their beds in the morning.

Monster attacks were no excuse. Nadia did not sit well with excuses. You either did or you didn't, and that was that. Apologize and then help out. Any protest at her wanting to keep things tidy was met with narrowed eyes, a flare of her nostrils, and a little 'hmph.' There was no stopping her; this was what she could do to keep herself sane and it worked. It was just that some help would be nice once in a while, geeze.

Finding a broom had been difficult. The one she had was battered, busted up, and almost two-thirds its original size, but it had quickly become one of her most prized possessions and she was going to put it to good use. With her hair tied back in a ponytail, she surveyed the main room with an air of grim determination.

It was time to meet your maker, dust.

Background/History:
For most people, the Metropolis is all that they know. The city is sprawling, and a few hours of walking will take you to a place entirely unlike where you started. The Metropolis is sectioned into districts, not entirely neatly, as the government is chaotic and differs for each district. Some places are well governed, such as where the wealthy make their living and their homes. For poorer districts, the government setup is not a far cry from full on anarchy, with assassinations and grabs for power happening all the time.

This is especially so for the district Myia was born and raised in, informally called Bugtown for its majority population of insects. You see, there are no humans in the Metropolis; no one's ever heard of such a creature. There are only animals, insects, birds, and sometimes even plants, though they appear humanoid from our perspective. But look closer and you'll see the telltale differences: a froglike mouth, wings folded beneath arms, chlorophyll-green skin, compound eyes. Myia herself is a fruit fly, with dark purple skin covered in long, rigid hairs, with the consistence of chitin.

What does this mean for the food chain, if all its members have the sapience of humans? Messy, messy things. The food chain is in chaos in Metropolis, with murders for the sake of food happening every day. Many can't afford to buy synthetic foods, which are completely artificial, or that which is supplied by the government's harvesting departments, which employs agents to acquire food with neat, clean killings. Overpopulation and poverty are kept in check in messy, bloody ways. In the wealthy districts, where old-fashioned burials for the deceased are popular, graves are dug up for food if they're not watched carefully. Many are often sick from eating upwards on the food chain, herbivores especially.

Plants are the hardest to get ahold of for food, as they are very scarce within the actual Metropolis itself. Outside the borders of the Metropolis are where the plants thrive, in a place very dangerous for citizens to go wandering into. People die out in the wilds, killed by plants for invading their territory. Children are warned never to stray outside of the borders, for the plants are vicious and numerous. Skilled people are employed in high-risk jobs to attain food from plants outside the city, jobs that are paid very, very well for their danger, and thus providing a very, very expensive product.

Myia survives paycheck to paycheck, doing odd jobs and sometimes working part-time. It's not always enough, so theft is occasionally a part of it, but she gets by pretty well for a fly. She lives in a shoddy, makeshift shack just outside Bugtown's residential area, placed up on a hill so it's difficult to get in without wings or a difficult climb. There, she keeps her hoard of collected shinies. Anything that shines, glimmers, or sparkles that somehow finds its way into her hands ends up in her hoard, from cheap silverware and painted gold plastic to actual valuables and real jewelry.

There, she lives with her roommate, Emet the burrowing rain frog. Emet has a secret tunnel through the hill they use to get in and out, but for the most part, they stay in due to their multiple anxieties. Myia is often out, but helps sort of take care of Emet, despite their first meeting being Emet attempting to kill Myia for food. She's met friends under worse circumstances. The two of them have an unspoken deal: Myia brings home food for Emet, and Emet watches Myia's hoard.

Which made things a little harder for a certain crow named Maybel. Maybel has been stealing from Myia's hoard to survive for a long time, selling her collected items for food. It was much easier than scavenging, as she used to do, as Myia doesn't exactly keep a close eye on her things, and even the few times she appeared to catch Maybel in the act, she only wondered what the bird was doing in her home.

Thanks to Emet, who was able to point out that Maybel was actually stealing from her, Myia became enraged. In a fit of anger, she boarded up her own home, declaring that now, nobody could enjoy the hoard inside, all thanks to Maybel. All this accomplished was to block herself out of her own home, as Emet could still tunnel in and Maybel could still fly in through the various nooks and crannies she'd already been using. Myia was now effectively homeless.

As time went by, Myia eventually caught the attention of a neighboring, more wealthy district's government's harvesting department. At first, as a target for culling and acquisition of food. But as she managed to continually dodge their agent Sapre's attempts at killing her, she caught their interest in a more substantial way, and they offered her a job.

Myia has experience with survival, but not necessarily with murder, legal or not. Myia was taken under Sapre's flesh fly wing as an assistant in order to teach her the way of the trade, brought on numerous missions to keep the population in check while simultaneously supplying food to the Metropolis. Eventually, she was assigned her first real kill.

The job was messy. The target ran into a populated area, bringing lots of attention as Myia haphazardly killed him, and police were called and involved themselves as well. Myia's job was legal, but the killing was meant to be silent, covert. She was detained for a day and then bailed out by Sapre.

Expecting to lose her job, Myia was surprised when she was given another assignment instead. Mistakes happen, sometimes, as it was explained to her. Myia was unsure if she wanted to continue pursuing a career as an agent of Sapre's harvesting department, but the money was too good. She had gotten too used to surviving much more easily off the money she made through legal murder. And she couldn't know that they wouldn't try to kill her again, should she attempt to leave.

So she continued, her next assigned killings going much smoother as they came. But her guilt was rising. She couldn't just coolly approach her job the way Sapre does. But she continued.

Eventually, seemingly by chance (though actually intentional), Myia received a familiar name for her target: Emet. Myia went as far as nearly doing the job, but at the last moment decided that she couldn't and decided to run away with Emet and Maybel. The idea was to run out into the wilds in order to escape the eyes of the district governments, but they were stopped by a venus flytrap acquaintance, Carmine. At first he tried to convince them not to go, but eventually she argued him down to allowing him to at least accompany them, as a sort of ambassador between them and the dangerous plants outside the city.

But that's as far as she got, before waking up in a place called Haven.

Personality:
Myia is, in one word, excitable. She's highly energetic, prone to gesturing wildly and pacing around as she interacts with others. She has no filter when she speaks, tending to be very blunt with her speech and loud with her feelings. If she doesn't like something, everyone will know it. One thing doesn't hold her attention for long, as she is easily distracted by new things.

Especially shiny things. Myia is a hoarder, not unlike the kind you'd see on TV reality shows. She keeps everything given to her, including things like silverware from restaurants, and she's a bit of a thief. She very much believes in "finders keepers", no matter where she is or what the object is. She finds value in anything as long as it's golden or shiny, even coveting items such as five cent plastic rings, as long as they're painted gold. She'll show off her objects to anyone who cares to listen, very proud of every piece of her hoard.

She has so much, though, that she won't remember having most of it. She's very forgetful, not the smartest fly in the bunch, and doesn't pay much attention to more than what's directly in front of her. If something's not directly on her person at the time, she'll completely forget she has it, which is how it took so long for her to finally catch Maybel in the act of stealing from her. Though when Myia steals it's no problem for her, she very much hates it when someone takes something from her.

And she's always nervous that people want to. Myia is very paranoid of others' intentions, and tends to assume the worst from people. She's bad at picking up social cues, both bad and good. She just runs based on her own assumptions, which she makes quickly and loudly.

She can't be loud all the time, though. When things get serious, Myia goes completely quiet, only allowing herself a whisper when it's absolutely necessary. It's very easy to tell when something's really wrong, because you won't hear her actually complaining about it. She's also very quiet when on the job as a harvesting agent, which helps her quite a bit in the act of killing.

She does feel quite a bit of guilt about killing, although that's the only thing she really feels that way about. A few big exceptions aside, if she has a moral code she doesn't really pay attention to it. She's pretty shameless, for the most part, and her ego is not easily bruised at all. In fact, she's a big show-off, as well as being very vain and believing herself to be very beautiful, even though she's pretty average looking as far as flies go.

The one thing she does care about as much as her hoard is her friends. If you make a friend out of Myia, she's with you for life, as annoying as that may be. She may not make it very obvious, but deep down she cares a great deal about those that she considers her friends, and if it comes down to it she'd risk her life for them.

Abilities/Powers: Though they're often covered by her cloak, Myia has a pair of wings that give her limited flight, only able to carry her weight for a short amount of time and not too high up. She also has larger peripheral vision than a human does, as she has compound eyes, though that also means she's a little nearsighted. She's unexpectedly good at surviving and thinking on her feet, having managed to live longer than the average fly's lifespan in the Metropolis. She's also good at climbing, thanks again to her physiology. Thanks to her experience with odd jobs, she has a bit of know-how when it comes to repair work. She has some skill in silent killing, as well, though she's still new at it and easily makes mistakes.
Items/Weapons:
-(1) knife, with a golden hilt and sheath, from Sapre
-(2) cheap gold necklaces (of little actual value)

Sample Entry:
[The video starts in an extreme zoom-in on a big, red, compound eye. It jostles around a bit more until it finally settles on a very strange looking girl, with dark purple skin, two compound eyes, and a large tuft of fried yellowish cottonball hair on her head. She looks... not very pleased.]

This doesn't look like the wilds, but it's not like any place in the city, either. So there are places like this outside the border? [She muses over the concept for a second, apparently considering it quite a bit before she decides:] I don't like it. Don't like the people here either. Look weird. Can't trust 'em.

Hey. Listen. I got lots of nice stuff. Expensive stuff, good jewelry, more like this? [She holds up one of her long gold necklaces to the camera. Except... on a closer look, it looks like gold-painted paperclips strung together.] Good stuff, yeah? I'll give you... some. I'll give some if you let me go away. I don't like this place. Said that before. Too empty. Feels hollow. [She flits her wings, which only shows on camera as her cloak twitching a bit.]

Oh, right. Forgot my manners. Pleeeeeeaaase.

Sample Entry Two:
"What's outside the city?" Myia had asked as a child. Adults always answered the same way. Dangerous plants, vicious and savage people who can't be reasoned with. They'll eat you up, little fly. Don't leave the city.

So she'd grown up afraid. Afraid of the outside, afraid of the plants that sometimes wandered in. Afraid of Carmine, the worst of all, a flytrap that preyed on insects like her. He's never tried to harm her, but she knew his game. He'd try to lure her in with protests that no, he won't try to kill her, he won't eat the little fly. And then -- snap! -- the jaws of his many mouths would clamp down on her.

So she hated him. She hates what she fears because she doesn't understand fear alone. Fear is a feeling that doesn't make sense to her, but it plagues her all the time. She wishes it would just go away, it makes her angry and bitter.

It's with fear that she wakes up in Haven. There'd been stories of far off places, other cities around the world safe from plants, even small villages full of insects living nice and safe. None of the stories prepared her for this. A town in ruin, full of strange people unlike any she'd ever seen before. Humans, they called themselves. She couldn't know what they were like. She'd never been warned about humans.

So she hates them. She hates the humans that look at her funny, like her wings are a novelty and her big eyes are strange. Like a mouth with a proboscis and not their flat teeth is unheard of. They're like the plants, she decides. Overlook them and they'll eat her up, steal her things, and leave her dead.

She won't let them. She won't let herself feel safe here.

Personality:
At first glance, Rin kind of seems like a stupid punk. He can be extremely violent when provoked and got into fights with others frequently, to the point where he had extreme difficulty making friends and was known from early on as a "demon child". Although he has worked to control his temper more in recent times, the series begins with him beating up a group of other teenagers. We are also shown a scene where he completely trashes a classroom and breaks several of his guardian's ribs by punching him in the middle of a tantrum.

He also has difficulty paying attention in class, studying, and learning in a classroom setting. Because of this, he seems to come off as stupid, or too lazy to actually try in class. He often spaces out during class instead of listening, and doesn't seem to remember anything was assigned for homework, etc. Even in a mission or emergency situation, he often misses the details or falls asleep during the explanation of the situation. The only thing that really holds Rin's attention is fights and more practical/hands-on training. Using these methods, he is able to effectively hone his skills.

Rin is also very immature and headstrong. He doesn't quite always understand or even consider the consequences of his actions, and acts very impulsively without planning ahead or thinking about what might happen to others. He also often tries to take on all the burden by himself by doing things like going in alone in a fight. He is criticized frequently for these flaws by his friends and comrades. He can come off as rather clueless and forgetful as well, saying phrases incorrectly or completely misjudging another person's feelings. Although his ambition is to defeat Satan, he doesn't really seem to know or think about what steps he can follow to reach that goal, other than becoming a stronger fighter. He also doesn't really seem to be bothered by the fact that he could be executed or killed by the Vatican at any time for simply being himself. His behavior seems to persistently reinforce the fact that he thinks of himself as a human, despite possessing all of his unusual skills and despite experiencing all of the stigma behind being the son of Satan.

Despite all of the negative things about him, Rin has a good heart. He is very kind to his friends and his twin brother, and is extremely protective and supportive towards them. He deeply admired his adoptive father Shiro before he died, and he works hard to become stronger in order to prevent anyone else he cares about from dying like that again. He is very empathetic and open with others, and can easily relate to others and their troubles. He often uses this ability to empathize to help work out problems between people (for example, he uses his ability to relate to a friend's regret over the death of her grandmother to help convince her patch things up with her mother) and even other demons. This also means it's easy for him to tell when someone is having a problem (especially with him), and he works hard to resolve the problem or make up with his friends when he happens to argue with them. He is even shown crying over dramatic/emotional moments in the manga he reads.

Although he is terrible at school and learning in a classroom, Rin is actually a very curious person. He gets excited when he is able to go on a mission, or when he is able to go to a place he has never been before. He often bends/breaks the rules or asks others to do so in order for him to accompany his brother on missions/trips.

Although many see him as violent, in general, he only picks serious fights with demons or people that threaten to hurt his friends -- and even then, he sometimes attempts to talk the demon/person down or help in some way, if it will prevent bloodshed. More often, he gets into fights with people who are doing something cruel -- for example, the fight he was in at the beginning of the series was started because he saw the group of teenagers torturing animals. He seems to have a soft spot for animals, especially his cat familiar Kuro.

Despite all of the issues and problems that seem to plague his life, Rin is generally a pretty happy guy. He doesn't brood often, and prefers to take action rather than worry. When he seems to be upset that his brother is more skilled than himself, he resolves to become better than him/surpass him. The only time he really seems to deeply worry about something is once he realizes just how dangerous he is to the people around him when he is unable to control his flames, but with the support of his friends, he is back on his feet soon enough. He says that his friends help him deal with the fears he has regarding who and what he is.

He also aspires to be "cool" and likeable to cute girls, not unlike most teenage boys. Because of this, he often gets jealous of other boys who are receiving a lot of female attention, especially his twin brother. However, he doesn't seem to really know how to flirt, and usually treats other girls the same as everyone else.

Aside from his crazy ridiculous demon powers, his self-professed "only useful ability" is his talent in cooking, practiced and perfected from an early age. He is amazing cook, and can make just about anything given the ingredients and the tools, even things he has never made before.

Abilities/Powers:
As he is the son of Satan, Rin is a pretty powerful demon with many different abilities. When fighting, he sometimes changes into his "demon form" -- slightly different than his usual human appearance -- he has "horns" on his head made of flames, his ears become longer and more elf-like, and his devil tail is more prominent.

The most obvious and commonly used offensive power he has is his blue flames, which generally become visible when he draws his sword. These flames will engulf his body when he is angry/upset/ready to fight without harming him, but they can burn and destroy just about anything they touch if he desires them to. He is capable of picking and choosing exactly what it is he wants to burn -- for example, he has burned the clothes off a person without burning their underwear or skin; he has also burned away "contamination" caused by a demon, leaving the plants/buildings/etc that were infected in their original pristine state before they were contaminated. These flames immediately out him to any exorcist from his world as the son of Satan, so in some scenarios, he tries to fight without using the flames (usually not very well). On occasion he can become "consumed" by the flames, which leads to him entering a sort of berserker state where he loses control and goes on a rampage. It is very difficult, but possible, for him to stop himself/regain control in this state.

He has inhuman strength and is capable of lifting up extremely heavy objects very easily. Even as a child, he was able to break six of an adult's ribs with one punch. When older, he is shown being able to lift a car and debris from a roller coaster.

He has a familiar spirit -- a cat demon named Kuro -- that will fight for him as well.

Due to the fact that he is a demon, he can also communicate with other demons that are incapable of speech via telepathy.

He also heals very quickly. Most regular wounds will heal up on their own in a short time -- generally within seconds. He is also immune to anything that drains the energy of normal humans.

Items/Weapons:
Rin always carries his sword, Kurikara, with him. He will also have his cell phone, and his clothes.

[ It takes him a few minutes of switching audio and video back and forth, poking the device with his sword, and squinting really close at the screen for him to realize that the video is, in fact, on and broadcasting. Excuse his muttering under his breath about a "stupid computer thing" -- and the close-up of his nostrils for a little bit -- before he finally backs up to look at the screen properly. Once he seems to realize it's working, he grins happily and waves! ]

Uh, hey? I'm looking for someone and I can't get a hold of him … [ He looks down at his phone with a bit of a frown, muttering: ] Stupid four-eyes, always wandering off by himself to do all the cool stuff …

[ --Oh wait, he was talking to everyone. Whoops. He looks back up at the screen, scratching the back of his head ]

Anyways, he looks a little like me, I guess. Except he's got a pair of really stupid glasses, and two moles right here. [ He pokes two spots right under his eye ] Oh, yeah, and he probably has a gun! Anyways. If you see him, tell him his super awesome big bro's looking for him, 'kay?

Sample Entry Two:
At first, nothing seemed wrong. In fact, in a groggy haze, the only thing he noticed was how annoying the beeping of that stupid alarm clock was. Didn't that clock know he needed eleven full hours of sleep every night?

He reached over to push the snooze button, reaching blindly with a massive, loud yawn until he finally found the clock. He pushed the button, retracting his hand to snuggle back up with his pillow.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.

Weird, hadn't he pushed the snooze button? This was really starting to kill his ability to go back to sleep. Rin groaned, rolling back over to hit the button again, this time with precision.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.

"What the hell … ?"

Rin sighed heavily before sitting up, rubbing his eyes. Was this some kind of devious plot concocted by Yukio to get him up in time for class? Did he set an alarm clock demon on him in order to test his skills? He glanced over blearily at the alarm clock sitting on the table, before smashing it easily with his fist.

When he was satisfied that the beeping had stopped, he smiled sleepily before turning to lay back down on the bed and close his eyes again. But … he had a strange feeling, all of a sudden. Wasn't there something … weird about this?

He sat back up again, peering at the mess of parts that once made up the alarm clock, and then the table. There … wasn't a table like that in the True Cross dorms, was there? Were these the same sheets? The same floor?

Starting to feel more alarmed, he glanced across the room, where Yukio's bed should have been. Instead, he found five other beds, and a room very much unlike the dorm he had become accustomed to.

Instinctively, he felt around for his sword, pulling it out of the case and standing up. Surely there had to be someone around here who knew what was going on, right? The thought of being stealthy or careful didn't even cross his mind -- he just wanted to know what was going on. Maybe someone pulled a prank on him … ?

"HELLO?" He shouted loudly, jumping up off the bed. "ANYONE HOME?"

Background/History:

Starfire Wiki, Starfire Wikia.

Personality:

Kory's personality is very akin to the bolt's she emits from her hands. She's fiery and strong-willed, incredibly warm and very, very genuine. She was raised in a culture that values emotions and intuitive responses, enough so that murder due to rage is an acceptable response. Her stubbornness has gotten her into trouble before, and several arguments between her friends have ensued over her propensity to use excessive violence--even death as an acceptable option. She feels and expresses herself openly, refuses to dampen them to fit in better on Earth--a planet that consistently confuses her. Her bafflement over Earthling's desire to hide or pretend they aren't feeling what they are is a continued theme with Kory; many of her talks with Dick Grayson and Donna Troy include her speaking of her bewilderment at his refusal to speak of how he feels--even of his love for her. She dislikes that he cannot express himself as freely with her as she is with him and it has been a bone of contention between them for as long as they've known each other. It has led to several of their falling outs as lovers, as both want the other to see their point and each refuses to for their own reasons. She also reflects on the strangeness of Earthling culture during her time teaching the new Teen Titans in Teen Titans Vol. 3, where the people of Earth hide or refuse to express their true emotions.

She is also an incredibly kind and generous person. Once she's decided to be someone's friend, they're friends for life. When Kory begins dating, she's head over heels for her first boyfriend, but he isn't actually interested in her--he's using her to get his girlfriend back. When it's clear he has been taken by kidnappers--she isn't angry over his betrayal, she's distraught over losing him and utterly inconsolable. It's only when her despair and rage combine to drive her to find the culprits, after it's over she's relieved, though she doesn't try to reconcile with the man ever again. Kory will believe the best in everyone and will defend their honor and feelings with as much voracity as she does her own. She feels validity of emotions is validity of cause--she has had to tone down her responses on more than one occasion, when her rage over a friend's pain has been so complete, she was willing to kill the perpetrator, and when even for minor villains, Dick Grayson and her teammates have had to convince her to lessen the damage of her star bolts.

Kory loves people and she loves Earth, considering it to be her second home, especially after her planet is destroyed (twice, I may add). It's in her nature to believe the best in everyone, even if she's proven wrong, she's glad others are honest with her, and angry when they are not. Indeed, her propensity for honesty has been the backbone of her relationships. When she would not let the new group of Teen Titans (Cassie - Wonder Girl, Kon - Superboy and Tim - Robin specifically) she sought them out to explain her reasons behind these actions. Her time on Earth has tested both her generosity of character - she has given much of herself to Earth and its people and there has been limited reward, a fact that later drives her from her second home in an effort to reaffirm herself. Dick Grayson no longer cares for her the way she does him, her best friend was killed by a fellow hero's android and the team she grew up with has been disbanded, with some members killed in the line of duty. She is no stranger to war, but it has affected her as any traumatic experience would making her more aware of consequences and the limitations of her non-alien comrades.

But optimism is part and parcel to her character, she seeks the good in her work and even after traveling off-world in order to take a break from Earth, she hasn't stopped being a hero. She joined the R.E.B.E.L.S. in an effort to make a difference, even when the planet that replaced her own is inhabited by people other than her native kin. She can't help but look for the good in others, even if it's not the primary trait she should be aware of. She has been manipulated and tossed about by both her people and characters because she believes what they say right off the bat--she doesn't question their motivations or reasons. Even her sister, Komand'r has taken advantage of her. Komand'r is responsible for her enslavement to the Citadel and act which ultimately led to her escape and appearance on Earth. Komand'r compromised her people's safety and peace in an effort to get back at them for refusing to let her rule and her hatred for Kory has caused Kory innumerable hardships. She has attacked Kory's friends, set her own people against her, and effectively exiled her from her own home. It is only when the planet is threatened with destruction that the sisters share a brief moment of acceptance, but that is once again destroyed after their planet's destruction.

Kory feels everything intensely, and these include both positive and negative emotions. Her anger is something to be feared and she has no qualms about expressing her opinion, violently if she decides it's warranted. She can be vicious and brutal, and shows mercy only when prompted--or convinced it's the better part of valor. It's the same with sadness, or any other emotion, if she feels it, she expresses it, whether violently or otherwise.

Love is also an emotion she covets, at one point in their relationship, Kory offered to have a threesomes with Dick. Her explanation was that love comes in many forms, and physical love, while different, is just as important as emotional. It is something to be cherished and shared with whoever one feels the connection to because it's a connection--and it should be honored. Dick's response was to vehemently oppose this idea--he was in a relationship with Kory and even though he was attracted to the other party, he believed in monogamy. While Kory didn't quite understand his reasoning, she accepts it, but it proves that she's very open about types of love and appreciative of others feelings, even if they don't coincide with her own.

She is a powerful, self-assured being and fights for her safety and happiness with the hard-earned conviction of someone who has not had the luxury of either in the past. She was traded to her enemies to keep her people safe, given away by her own sister and through coercion her family to a monstrous enemy that kept her as a slave for years, and was only able to escape when they sold her to another group whose intention was to experiment on her to the point of death. Despite this she has remained courageous, generous and fiercely protective of those she feels have or are experiencing situations similar to her own. Her desire to protect freedom is so pervasive that she will go against orders to ensure its use. When Wonder Woman refused to let Cassie join the Teen Titans, she ignored the warning and asked anyway--which eventually led to a full on fist fight between the two warriors. This has led to unnecessary conflict, conflict Kory was well aware would start once she acted. While her actions were ultimately justified, it doesn't negate the fact that she actively disregarded another person's request because it conflicted with her beliefs. She's set in her own opinion of what is right and good, and others can either get on board or deal with the consequences.

She also suffers from an ideological stubbornness. She views her beliefs as in the right and others that don't follow her traditional Tamaranean beliefs of freedom of expression to be a betrayal of said emotions. So many of her arguments with Dick were a result of her refusal to allow Dick to keep his emotions hidden, or her being hurt by his refusal to explain/express himself. She legitimately cannot fathom why other people can't be honest with themselves and she never tries to hide this bewilderment and disapproval. It isn't that she necessarily blames the individual for hiding their emotions, but she does blame the culture and does pressure others to be as open as her.

Her sense of self and self-worth is something she has fought hard for. She has complete confidence in herself and her actions, but this can lead her to acting without regard to the well-being of others. She always intends the best, but she often lacks the comprehension of the entire story, or believes her solution better than others, and it ends up doing more harm than good. She is a being led by her emotional responses, something she is proud of, even if her actions lead to more damage. Once she sees the damage, she's regretful and does her best to fix what she's done, but that doesn't negate the fact she caused more issues in the first place. She has had to tamp down or justify her actions habitually to her friends and it has become something of a constant in her life, and not one she's very appreciative of. She has a good heart, it's just not always in the right place, or dictating the right course of action.

Abilities/Powers:

Alien physiology has given Kory enhanced senses, super strength and excessive durability. Attacks that would normally incapacitate or kill humans cause her minimal or no injury at all. Her body is adapted to survive in incredibly harsh conditions--included surviving unaided in the vacuum of space. She is also capable of assimilating languages through physical contact. Any contact will do, but she finds acquisition through the act of kissing to be the most amusing considering typical human reaction to it.

As a child she was sent to a planet of warlords (Okaara) for training and the resulting education has made her extremely proficient in hand-to-hand combat as well as armed. She prefers hand-to-hand, but has been known to use a staff in training exercises.

Her main source of energy comes from the sun. It's ultraviolet radiation provides the backbone of her daily energy and helps power her up. It is the source of her ability of flight. An experiment against her in her youth of giving her body a massive amount of this radiation gave her the ability to shoot energy from her hands--an attack she calls 'starbolts'. She is able to completely control the power of these 'bolts, from merely producing light, to stunning enemies, to even incinerating them on the spot; it all depends on her mood in the moment. She can also release a blast of energy several times stronger than her normal starbolts, but the act leaves her in a severely weakened state.

Items/Weapons:

Kory isn't really the type to bring/have items with her, but if it's required, then two spares of her superhero outfit and a Teen Titans communicator/device.

Sample Entry:

Test, Drive, Meme.

Sample Entry Two:

Kory is used to alarms; not a day goes by in the Tower that four or more don't go off, but even without the unfamiliar shriek she knows everything is wrong. The sight that greets her is a sparse confirmation; barren save empty beds and a hollow sense from the building, unused and left to decay.

She's on her feet and across the room within moments, alarm crushed into silence. Kind of them, to wake her up in time to kill them, because that's the second task on her list after her finds her way out. Princess Koriand'r does not take well to captivity; there is a slew of dead masters in her wake, with fresh ones to be added once.

She scents the air with an open mouth, rolling them across her tongue; old things, rotting wood and rusted metal, the faint scent of human fear, younger than the others. Captor or captive she cannot say, but the thought of others being trapped before her sets her blood to boil and carries her feet forward in loping strides. Down the hall and toward windows--or stairs if she needs them. Human structures tend to be rectangular and follow basic patterns. By the time she makes it outside, she's barely touching the ground and freedom sends her soaring high for the joy of it, if not the tactical advantage.

"This," She rumbles, as she orients herself and takes in the desiccated town below her with narrowed eyes, "is going to be more difficult than I'd hoped."
