APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The next processing date is Friday 11th October

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.

Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

Personality:

“You're not some hero who can do everything by himself.
You're a middle-aged man who's deluded himself into
thinking he can do everything alone!”

Technically speaking, a character in Pandora Hearts basically wrote this section for me. Not only does she say the above, but she also goes on to say: "In your arrogance, you're always making fun of others. You're always acting like you know everything, and yet you never reveal anything! You pose as an adult, but you're a perfectionist who can't accept defeat. You're always meddling in other people's affairs, but god forbid someone should dare do the same with you!" And these are all 100% accurate statements and I could end the app there. But of course, there needs to be a bit of elaboration on why these things are true.

Break is a strange person that has a habit of picking on others, delving into their private affairs and wouldn't hesitate to call them useless or point out to them how their life would be easier if someone were dead. He has no problems with manipulating others to achieve his own goals. And yet, underneath all of that, Break is a good person, though he would loathe to admit it. He was once a Kevin Regnard, after all, and a very proud and loyal knight. But after his master was killed, he essentially made a deal with the devil, taking on a terrible power for the sake of reversing that reality, but ends up staining his hands with even more blood and regret than simply accepting that he couldn't be there to protect his master.

This event fundamentally changed Kevin, and after the horrors he committed and losing his eye to the abyss, he took on a new name as if to symbolize his new life. Xerxes Break is someone that shouldn't look on his past with anything but indifference and should have no qualms with doing whatever it takes to achieve his ultimate goal of fulfilling the Will of the Abyss's wish. He'll manipulate people, put them in grave danger, and will happily tell them so!

It's all a very deliberate choice on his part, because Break likes to exert control, so to speak. His rather eccentric (and sometimes abrasive) personality and distant way of interacting with others is a way for him to control how people feel about him. After the despair of failing as a knight not once, but twice, Break doesn't necessarily want to get closer to other people for fear of losing them or failing them. This was more of a concern after he returned from the Abyss and has softened some in the years since, though he's still reluctant to form relationships. He does clearly care for Shelly and Sharon Rainsworth, and throughout the course of the manga, does grow to care for the other main characters, albeit rather reluctantly and slowly.

In another aspect, he's also very controlling in other aspects of his life, as noted by Sharon. He's "a perfectionist who can't accept defeat," and when that smiling facade drops, it's often when he's being beaten or something doesn't go according to his plans. He's a very intelligent and astute person who is overconfident in his abilities, so when things don't work out as planned, it's a great shock to him. It's also one of the few things to make him angry. He takes control of conversations to get them flow in the way he wants, as evidenced by his use of humor to distract or deflect. Break's use of control is almost a way for him to feel more comfortable in his new life after returning from the Abyss, since it was a loss of control over events that sent him there in the first place.

But these are the more serious points of his personality. So let's get into his eccentricity, since Break is also just a really strange individual.

Break's appearance, first of all, clues pretty much anyone into what an eccentric person he is. With one eye completely hidden by silver hair and the other being red, he's already a weirdo, but he also wears a rather bizarre outfit. The his coat always off his shoulders, making the sleeves too long and partially obscuring his hands. There's also a good chance that he'll be eating candies or sweets at any time too, since Break has a terrible sweet tooth.

But even more than that, there's a strange little doll nearly always perched on his shoulder, which he has affectionately named Emily. Emily is rather rude and prone to insulting people, by which I mean Xerxes will use ventriloquism to speak through Emily and then criticize her for being too harsh! Clearly Emily is the real problem here, as he would say to anyone that would raise a complaint.

He does have a penchant for messing with people just for the fun of messing with them too. The most often target is Gilbert, who essentially grew up with Break bullying him. He's a convincing liar and will use this to his advantage to get people to believe things that are obviously untrue or otherwise just make fools of themselves. He'll behave childishly or whimsically to catch people off guard, and has a nasty habit of latching onto gullible people and tormenting them for fun. Though it's worth noting that he would never progress beyond playful teasing or bullying unless it were directly useful to him to do so.

Overall, what most people will see of Break is a rather childish adult. He's perpetually smiling and often straight-up annoying with his eccentric quirks, but still manages to be rather entertaining. But if someone manages to spend enough time with him, it's easy to notice that he says and reveals very little about himself. Those kind of details have to be (sometimes literally) pulled out of him, and even when they are, he doesn't deal with them well. He's a person that doesn't believe in friends or allies, so he creates a comfortable distance to avoid it. He's a person very heavily driven by a singular purpose in life, but given time, Break can slowly open up to others and allow himself to form true bonds with others.

Abilities/Powers:
Most notable of Break's abilities is his Chain, Mad Hatter. Break is able to summon it at will, but it puts a great strain on him to do so, and at his canonpoint, would probably render him blind and put him out of commission for several days. Mad Hatter's basic power is to reject and destroy the Abyss's power, which effectively kills other Chains.

In addition, Break has very vaguely defined magical ability, though it's rarely used. The biggest example is his creation of a magic circle to trap Oz, but other than that, there's not a lot... Though out of his abilities, the one he's most likely to use is his abilities as a swordsman. Break is very skilled with a sword despite his appearance, and has an impressive amount of dexterity and strength, which makes him a pretty fearsome fighter with a sword in his hand. As proof of this, it's worth noting that his Chain is his last resort, and he'll more often try to beat an opponent with his swordsmanship.

Items/Weapons:
1. A not at all creepy doll
2. A cane with a sword inside it
3. A small stash of sweets like little candies and lollipops

Sample Entry:
[This is one of the few times that Break is thankful that he's a little more technologically inclined than people might think. That wasn't to say that the process was easy, but through careful trial and error and figuring out how the strange little phone worked, he had managed to understand the basics. He can't help but wonder exactly who his message would go to, but he'll just have to err on the side of caution with that. So the broadcast is only his voice, though it's light and cheerful! And there's the distinct sound of the candy in his mouth...]

Here we go~! It's a bit curious to have a phone without a wire, but ah, that's the least of my questions here...

[There's a brief pause for a discontent noise before he continues] Though in honesty, I'm a bit unsure of how to address the other end of this line! Haha, would it be Ms., Mr. or something else that I'm talking to? I'm quite curious to find out.

So I'm hoping that the mysterious person on the end of the line would be able to answer some questions I have! Hmm, though I suppose it would be the best to start with the most basic problem. Just where have I managed to wake up~?

[A beat, and there's even the sound like he's about to hang up, but then he seems to remember something, and adds:]

—Oh, and I might as well also ask, where might I be able to find some sweets? It seems I've not brought too much to keep my diabetes under control. ♥

[break that's not even how diabetes works get out]

Sample Entry Two:
When he wakes, there's a deep, very strong pang of fear. The alarm is just background noise, a far away hum as his wide eye observes the strange room he's found himself in. For a moment, while his mind is still clouded by the shock of waking up somewhere familiar, he thinks he's there again.

But it's short-lived. No, it wasn't anything quite that grand, as evidenced by the lack of tacky and twisted decor. It wasn't her style. It's just a cruddy bedroom, like something that could be found in the slums. Break nearly sighs in relief, but a laugh only comes out, even through his cold sweat. He brushes his forehead to wipe it away.

It wasn't quite time to go back to the Abyss yet. It was ridiculous to even have that doubt for a moment.

Break makes a light sound of surprise as his bangs fall over his face again, looking towards the alarm clock as if he's just heard the persistent beeping. It's easily turned off as he gets out of the bed to look toward the window.

...Ha.

"My, what an ominous sight," he murmurs to himself with amusement in his voice, "I somehow feel inclined to believe otherwise."

But contrary to what he says, the message on the billboard makes a small amount of worry well up in the pit of his stomach. This was hardly the Abyss, he was sure of that now, but...

What exactly was this supposed to be otherwise?

Character Name: Elizabeth 'Effy' Stonem
Canon: Skins
Canon Point: Season 3 episode 3
Background/History: here
Personality:
Effy is as clever as a girl can get, but there is also a softer side to her. When Tony, her older brother, was recovering from the car crash, she was the motherly figure who took care of him and read him Greek myths if he had a nightmare or couldn't go to sleep. She protects those that she loves, sometimes in ways that may seem mean to others. If someone is insulting a friend and that friend isn't speaking up, she'll insult them cruelly but subtly. She's usually very composed, and in the first season she never spoke a word until after Tony's accident, but before that Tony was proud of her for sneaking out at night to go clubbing and have sex.

Effy hasn't really been herself around anyone except her brother. He knows her for who she is, and she knows him for who he is, and they both love each other for that. The two of them look out for each other; Tony is sure to cover her tracks when she goes out to party, and Effy is sure to give him a piece of her mind when he screws over Michelle and his relationship. She adores him, idolizing him, in a way, because he really does fascinate her after the accident, improving as much as he can through the difficulties of learning things over again. Tony was the only person in her family who understood who she was, giving her what she needed in a family. He sees through the mask that she puts up around everyone else that no one else really saw through until the end of the fourth season. She's a delicate person on the inside, hating to get close to people and afraid of being damaged in the process. Tony was like her, but he liked to manipulate people in a different way, because he was bored. Effy did the same thing, but she tended to try and fix those around her in order to make up for what she couldn't fix for herself. She didn't want to touch the problems that she had, so she tried to help others in her own way. She initially started talking after she had the overdose, but even more-so after the accident. She stood by him through his troubles, especially through his fits.

She may have not said anything, but she was concerned, getting upset when Jim tried to pin him to the bed. Whenever he had a nightmare, she would be by his side, ready to read him Greek myths, never uttering a complaint of his needs. To Effy, she was the butt of the family. Whatever attention that used to be geared towards Effy was moved to Tony after the accident, leaving Effy feeling more alone and with a need for more attention in turn. She pushes herself away from everyone completely, deciding that being away from everyone was best -- she was exhausted from being yelled at, exhausted from life and men. So she had to get away from it, in her own way. At first, it was random men -- anything she could get her hands on in order to fill a void for a night. Whoever cared about her, or whoever had sex with her for one night made everything better for those moments, even if they were short. She tried to get away from her problems that way, either by drinking or doing drugs. Or both. She just didn't want to feel anything, she was sick of feeling things, of being hurt in ways that she couldn't fix by herself because she knew that there are simply some things that she can't solve on her own -- she needed someone. She needed a mother figure or a father figure, and whatever she had of her brother seemed to disappear completely after the accident. She had no one after that, and that's what scared her.

When things went wrong, she tried to fix it, as long as she got something in return. Though fragile on the inside, Effy is generally a strong person. She tried to fix Sid and Cassie's relationship, offering help to Sid after pointing out all the things that went wrong with the couple. That's what she resorted to -- fixing other peoples' problems. If she did, she could, perhaps, fill the gap that wasn't being filled for herself. Her brother couldn't be her brother anymore, their roles switched. Instead of taking care of her, she had to take care of him. So, fixing other relationships -- the ones that were fixable, that's what she wanted to do, because she knew she could do it. By sorting out Sid's problems, she offered him a deal. He would have to do her art coursework, and she would try and convince Cassie to come back to him. There is a clue into how Effy doesn't like being emotional; her art coursework needs to portray and emotion, and she hates portraying any emotion. Sid was confused by women, upset by how much he messed up, and angry at himself, and that meant that he could put it onto paper if he agreed. Effy ends up tricking her friend, Jake, to go see Cassie for some 'mindless fucking' and takes pictures of them together, later taping them all on Sid and her walls in order to make him angry enough to go see her and confront her himself. In the end, she tells her teacher that the work Sid did for her was Pandora's, and not hers.

She appears some-what aloof to others as a guard for herself, but she also proves to be insightful and sly, as proven when she offers to fix problems for her friends and succeeds. In the third series, she seemed to develop into a femme fatale, her slyness and beauty being her strengths. Because of this, other people would become drawn to her. She's quiet and is fine with standing in a group of friends without saying a word, but even if she's not doing anything even a girl's boyfriend will hit on her try and draw her away from her friend, not bothering to care about their girlfriend. This gives Effy a kind of power that she knows that she has, and uses because she knows it will work.

She still never talked about herself, ever, until Pandora snuck into the picture. She was innocent and oblivious, but Effy had been drawn to her ever since she pulled the circus trick at school, stating to Jake that she had a friend, and her name was Pandora. Pandora was, simply, everything that Effy wasn't. She made an effort to know her friends, and she made an effort to be there for Effy, in her own way. Even though Effy was reluctant to show who she was to Pandora at first, she slowly felt like she had to. She adored Pandora, even if she was the one who initially introduced Pandora to the party scene. Pandora was confused by Effy's influences, which is shown when she has sex with Cook while still in love with Thomas. Despite that, Pandora was incredibly welcoming to Effy's nature, uncaring of her actions towards Cook and Freddie and accepting her for who she was. She didn't care about what happened as long as the two of them were happy and having fun. Effy, on the other hand, is not embarrassed by how forward and air-headed Pandora is. She's willing to take Pandora along with her wherever she goes, happy to have a friend come along with her. The company of Pandora simply being there for Effy matters a lot, especially when their friendship was still blossoming, because she couldn't stand to let Pandora see her cry, but didn't make her leave, either. When she finds out that Pandora had sex with Cook, she felt betrayed and incredibly upset, but she still apologized to Pandora, because she realized she didn't make much effort to get to know her, or her mother. It was then that she started to realize she needed to really care about her. She couldn't leave Pandora in the dark forever, and she needed to realize what Pandora liked, and what her family was like. Effy may be a good listener, but sometimes she forgets, or simply doesn't want to, ask how her friends are. Any sort of confrontation with how someone felt or what they were doing with their lives seemed to just delve too deep into being true friends with someone. Pandora opened up Effy in that sense, showing how much it mattered. She couldn't just let her go completely, she had to 'need' someone, in a sense, and that someone was Pandora. Effy looks after her, and Panda looks after Effy.

With Emily, Effy immediately saw that she let herself get walked all over by her sister, Katie. When the two first meet, Effy asks Emily if she's the doormat, and Emily, completely aware of this fact, agrees, but doesn't do anything about it. The very fact that Effy noticed it straight away may have given Emily a push forward. She does, in a way, bring the whole group of friends together. She doesn't judge people, but she does try and make them see themselves for who they really are. The more people hang out around Effy, the more they tend to realize that it's okay to be themselves -- they don't need to constantly hide away. It's a nice thought, but Effy does the complete opposite. She may point out minute things that no one else seems to notice about someone and try to fix them, in a way, but she won't reveal who she is, or why she does what she does. In fact, she'll do anything to avoid the subject of just talking about herself because it will make her vulnerable.

Effy is used to being able to do everything that she puts her mind to. If something doesn't work out as planned, she is able to act as if it was the plan the whole time. She enjoys to watch people and can usually tell if there is something wrong within a relationship, be it friendly or romantic. On her first day at Roundview College, she is quietly watching a pair of twins walking to the school, and notices that one of them, Emily, is stuck in the background of her sister Katie, and Effy makes a remark to herself, "Oh, right. You hate her."

Much like her brother before the accident, Effy has been drawn to juggling people who care about her in an inappropriate way. She would rotate mostly from Cook to Freddie, then back to Cook again. She tries to balance the two of them whenever she likes, pushing them away when they get too close. She does realize what she's doing, but she doesn't seem to understand that it hurts their feelings as she does it. Playing at peoples' hearts can't always come out right, and she does, in her own way, sort of get that Freddie is the person she should be with, but she wasn't ready to accept that. She wanted to be needed by someone, and if the attention she got was too much from one of the three, or too little, she would move from one to the other. Freddie was probably the only person that Effy was genuinely sweet to out of the three, making an effort to be kind to Freddie. This is shown when Freddie is late to class while they're talking about Hamlet, and Effy touches Freddie's hand. She knows she can't have sex with him, and she doesn't really want to, because Freddie isn't that kind of person. She uses Freddie for his honest demeanor, and uses Cook for his sex. She tears the three boys apart, because all of them have fallen for her. When JJ confesses his love for her, she brushes it off her shoulders like it's nothing, but is inwardly devastated when JJ tells her to leave the three of them alone and when he refuses to be her friend. She feels like she's losing everyone and everything around her, even herself. She can't control her need for a substitute for being unable to really care for someone, or have someone care for her back, and that substitute is drugs and alcohol.

Effy's own life is falling apart, and she even states that she's sorry for messing everything up at Panda's party. She obviously didn't intend to have things turn out the way they did at the party, but it still happened anyway. At school and around others, she is incredibly confident on who she is, and what she may encounter. Her icey demeanor is only half of it, though, it's merely a protective layer that she covers herself with. If they can't see her, then she's safe. Her feeling like her life is a complete disaster makes her think that she has a certain right to be bad, a certain right to jump from Cook to Freddie and a certain right to do drugs and drink and have sex without worrying about any consequences.

She loves to party, and isn't afraid to try drugs or drink alcohol. She also smokes regularly and knows how to use drugs without getting sick afterward and usually uses them to get away from problems, or just have fun. Her best friend, Pandora, is innocent and hadn't done anything before she got to know Effy, who introduced her to drugs and drinking, which shows that Effy can be a bit of a bad influence to those who don't know what they're getting into. Later in the series, she becomes involved in a love triangle with Freddie, JJ, and Cook, who are all best friends. The reason why Effy is so out of control sometimes, but seemingly in control, is because her parents are getting a divorce, and their family is already so separated that she can't stand it any more. She is the mother of the family, and she has to take care of everyone while being ignored at the same time. At one point, she drops a glass vase on the floor in order to get her mother's attention after talking about having a baby with her current on again off again boyfriend (Cook) and being completely ignored. The glass breaking certainly gets her mother's attention, but by then it's already too late, and Effy feels utterly alone. Her own mother can't even reach out to her daughter to talk to her, she's too focused on herself and her husband's idiocy.

After she hits Katie over the head with a rock and gives her a concussion along with a very bruised face with stitches, things start to go downhill more than they already were. She slowly becomes more and more introverted, escaping with Cook to a small fishing town to see his emotionally abusing father. She enjoys herself at first, but after noticing Cook's discomfort, she pleads with Freddie to come to the town to help her and Cook out. Once things have been resolved, Effy gets back together with Freddie and shuns Cook from her life. When Effy's mother leaves for a vacation, Freddie and Effy spend their time doing drugs and having sex in her house, but one day, Effy snaps and starts posting pictures of 'death' over her mother's bed. She's caught by Freddie, who takes it as a joke at first, but then he realizes that she is suffering from psychotic depression. Effy is admitted to a psychiatric hospital after attempting to commit suicide in a bathroom when left alone.

She is kept in a mental hospital, and becomes friends with her psychiatrist, John T. Foster, who, in turn, tries to keep her for himself and hypnotizes her into forgetting certain memories, friends and family. He also goes so far as to kill Freddie when he begins to suspect something of the psychiatrist. She becomes Elizabeth Stonem, not 'Effy'. In fact, John goes so far to make her forget just who she was, and inadvertantly makes her burn her old clothes. In this new state, she becomes less aloof and more in-tune with herself and people, but backs away from drugs. When Effy is released and reconnecting with friends, she ends up reverting to her old self, going back to who she was: Effy.
Abilities/Powers: n/a she is completely human.
BUT she does have a knack for 'reading' people fairly well.
Items/Weapons:
x1 lighter
x1 quarter ounce of weed (bagged)
Sample Entry: bam
Sample Entry Two:
Effy never thought that her home situation could get worse. Sure, she had expected it, had known it was going on, but it didn't mean that it couldn't upset her. She was left in the shadow of her brother as her mother dove into a deep depression and her father was away. The accident didn't do anything for anyone, why would it? So she had to take initiative, like she always had to. She took care of her brother as much as she could, even if it meant waking up in the middle of the night to read him Greek stories. She took care of her mother, who was so depressed and tired that she never got dressed and slept on the couch most nights. That's where she was, always. The couch or her bed.

When Tony left to go back to school, it only got worse. She was still in the shadows, never really paid attention to. Her mother had an affair, just like she had expected. She could see things about people, always had been able to. But this time she couldn't take it. Her father came home early and things had gone downhill. She was crushed, more upset than she had been in ages. She wanted to go into a downward spiral and destroy her mind, to get rid of anything that surfaced. She wanted to drown in drugs and sex and alcohol and Cook, or even Freddie. She needed something that she couldn't put her finger on, and it bothered her.

Now, she had more control over her life. She took some time off with her mother in Italy and relaxed, found herself. Her life wasn't too bad, it was just a little fucked, like it always had been. She thought of all the times she fell back on parties so easily, and it didn't bother her, it just was. She had to deal with it, like she always had. Only it was easier this time. She had the same control over things, it just came more easily.

Some things to note that are not explained in the Wiki just yet are that Sinbad's mother was a very sickly woman - so much so that the boy was always fretting at her bedside and wouldn't even let her come out to greet visitors for fear of her health. At that time Sinbad was also one of the few remaining males who were fit enough to do various tasks around the Tison village (which was a very poor village ruled over by Partevia) due to many of their men being shipped off to fight in the war against Reim. Upon his forced enlistment though Sinbad refused to leave - stating that if he were to go to war he would not come back just like his father. So instead, due to Yunan's persuasion, Sinbad runs off to capture the Baal Dungeon before Partevia's soldiers could in an effort to save his mother and his village from the militaristic government.

Finally, one last thing to be aware of, is that Sinbad went on to capture six other dungeons in his youth after his eventual capture of Baal. These dungeons are: Valefor (conquered at the age of 15), Zepar (conquered between 15-21), Furfur (conquered at 21), Focular (conquered between 21-24), Vepar (conquered at 24), and Crocell (conquered at 25).

When the man is first introduced and shown in Sindria he is a very laid back figure who merely does his best to live his life to the fullest. He is constantly fooling around, has been known to drink too much, party too hard, and on a number of occasions caused himself to get stuck in situations that a more wiser man would have been able to easily avoid. (Situations such as: awakening one day to find he had married a number of tribal women or getting all of his djinn vessels stolen while in a drunken stupor.)

But the difficulty that resides within Sinbad's personality is the question of just how much of his behavior, and the resulting consequences, are caused by luck or by a manipulative and scheming genius of a king. It is a question that is meant to have no answer, yet, has been shown leaning various ways throughout the manga. In Balbadd when Sinbad lost all his vessels it seemed as though it was a result of all his drinking and was almost what had doomed them all to fail. However, later on it is shown that when Sinbad goes out to capture the 'fog troupe' his actions were proven to have been all a part of an elaborate scheme to join up with the troupe in order to overthrow the overbearing monarchy in the city. Then, when Al-Sarmen intervenes and when things begin to look grave, Sinbad somehow gets all of his metal vessels back just in time to overthrow Al-Sarmen. The timing of Sinbad's regaining of his vessels was really almost far too convenient and altogether suspicious given the discussion that took place after he defeated Al-Sarmen. For, at that time, Sinbad is quoted saying to the men who had robbed him "But I really hoped you could have returned these to me earlier.” and then, once Ja'far is through berating Sinbad, the thieves seize their chance speak amongst themselves, saying things like “Brother, we have become penniless again.” “It's alright. Even if we had held onto those treasures and metal vessels it's useless, you see?”. As ignorant thieves the men who had stolen from Sinbad could never have known what powers those metal vessels held within them and, in turn, Sinbad could have never known those thieves had taken and buried the items somewhere he could never find them - unless he truly knew who the culprits were. However it is never clearly stated as to whether or not Sinbad knew or what truly compelled the thieves to return the stolen items. It is, as always when it comes to Sinbad, left up to the reader to interpret whether or not it was pure luck or the result of some elaborate planning on Sinbad's part. Thus, in the end, this question can never really have a definitive answer because the author does not want us to have one.

Sinbad himself is aware of his own sly and manipulative nature buried beneath his care-free smile. In a conversation with Ja'far he reflects upon how he has now become someone who he has never wished to be before. Despite this the king's goals are far too resolute and, going back to his almost 'come what may' attitude, he continues pushing forward in the hopes of a brighter future for not just himself but for all the people of Sindria (who he seems to view as a type of extended family).

Overall, no matter if his behavior is pre-calculated or pure instinct, some traits which are consistently expressed in unison with his fun-loving nature are those of his flirtatious tendencies, alcoholic desires, charismatic benevolence, and alternatively his serious and well-respected attitude towards his duties as king. Despite (or perhaps because of) his relaxed and playful ways everyone who comes into contact with Sinbad becomes at risk of being enveloped by his 'light'. Those who follow him adore him while those who hate him find it impossible to be rid of him. He is kind, jovial, a bit of a procrastinator, and a friend to all that he meets in the hopes that every one will one day lend him their strength in the upcoming battles.

Abilities/Powers: Not all of Sinbad's abilities have yet to be explained within the Magi canon. This is because of the seven Djinn Sinbad has come to possess only three of them have yet to be shown and used by the king. However, of the three that has been shown, Sinbad has already exhibited extraordinary power. The first one Baal, a Djinn that resides within his short sword, grants him the ability to use lightning while in his Djinn form. If he were to use Extreme Magic he would be able to pull lightning out of the very sky to channel and store within his sword so as to later release a blast capable of filling the entire sky with light. The second Djinn shown is that of Focalor - the spirit of rule and submission who resides within his right silver bracelet. While in this form Sinbad is able to control wind in the form of tornadoes within the palm of his very hands. His strength in this form is so astounding that he is able to go so far as to be able to destroy mountains or cancel out other people's abilities when using his Extreme Magic. The third Djinn revealed is that of Zepar. This Djinn is unique in that it grants Sinbad the ability to emit a loud scream which causes anyone within the vicinity who hears it to heed and follow his commands. In the manga he was capable of commanding Kougyoku (and anyone else who heard it) to sleep.

The last known ability (besides his excellent swordplay and fighting skills) that Sinbad possesses is that of his Magoi Manipulation skill. He gained this ability after training with the Yambala Gladiators for about a year and with it he is able to use his own Magoi to cancel out another's - and thus cancel out their abilities. He has been shown doing this to both members of the Fog Troupe and to Kougyoku when she attempted to fight with Aladdin over Judal's injured body.

Items/Weapons: If Sinbad is not permitted to arrive wearing all of his jewelry (as he always wears his metal vessels) then he will simply arrive with the three metal vessels of which whose powers we know of so far. That is, he will have upon him his short sword, his silver bracelet, and his ring.

Sample Entry: Sample Post

Sample Entry Two: There reaches a point in everyone’s life when a person is forced to step back and reflect upon the decisions made that led them to this very place. In one’s youth a person lives for the present and the joys one could gather out of each and every moment while in adulthood one can only reflect and dream of possibilities.

Sinbad himself was aware of his increasing age. He knew his days were numbered and that every step taken was one of many that would lead to his eventual death. Which was why every morning the King made it a habit to stare out over Sindria, to watch and smile over the people whose lives his own life had become wholly devoted to. So many spur of the moment decisions had led to this morning and so many more would lead to the fulfillment of his dreams. But for now, for this moment, the still young King could rest from it all and just appreciate. He would not regret, would not even bother with such bitter emotions. If he regretted then he would only hate himself further for his manipulation of people, would hate himself for knowing that - despite these regrets he held - he would only continue to use people for Sindria’s protection because by now it was too late to stop.

“It is a beautiful morning, is it not?”

Sinbad doesn’t look even as he speaks to the general who kept hidden in the terrace’s shadows. Leaning forward, the king places his hands on the balcony railing and continues to smile out at his beloved city. Despite all the work that awaited him today Ja’far would never rush these moments for Sinbad. The General was forever pushing, forever pressuring, but never forcing when Sinbad took a moment to recollect himself. He would always just wait for the king to get over his self-hatred with a patience that murmured, ‘Go on.’ until Sinbad was able to do just that.

“Let’s go see if the others have returned then.”

[personal profile] honed 2013-02-01 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Throughout most of his life, Oliver "Ollie" Queen was an irresponsible slacker. A playboy by trade, he flitted through life doing whatever he pleased without much thought for the consequences. Unquestionably spoiled by his billionaire parents, he enjoyed a charmed life living in the lap of luxury. While this time of his life is only shown briefly in flashbacks and through references from other characters, it's quite clear that Ollie was hardly a commendable of respectable citizen. His life changes when he goes out on a yacht trip with his father... and his girlfriend's sister, Sara.

The trip ends in disaster, with both his father and Sara dead and lost at sea. Ollie miraculous survives thanks to his father's sacrifice, left with nothing but solemn words of his father's regrets and a desperate plea that he make up for his father's mistakes. Those words become what guides Ollie through the times ahead, giving him a determination that he lacked earlier in life. He ends up on a mysterious island, where he spends years facing nearly insurmountable danger. What exactly Oliver did while on the island is still unclear, but it leaves him a changed man. His physical skills develop considerably and he learns much of the world after coming in contact with a strange hermit and a dangerous military force present on the island.

He's found years later by a passing ship, though how exactly Oliver survived his ordeals on the island is unknown. His body is covered in numerous scars, and he's become an expert marksman with a bow. Among the numerous mysteries about his time on the island, he's become fluent in Chinese and Russian while on the island... while also becoming a captain of the Russian mafia. (Yes, that sounds ridiculous and it still hasn't been revealed how exactly all this occurred, though flashbacks throughout the series have slowly been putting the pieces together).

Returning to his hometown, Starling City, he has a clear purpose. He must do what his father bid him to with his dying breath. His father, much to his regret, confessed to Ollie that he had not been a good man. Along with others, he had taken advantage of the city and its inhabitants. And so Oliver takes it upon himself to correct those wrongs, hunting down those on a list of people his father left for him. Who these people are and what they do varies greatly, but it's clear that they all prey upon the weak and unfortunate in the city for their own gain. Oliver's purpose is to bring them to justice.

But that task is hardly simple. What perhaps adds some unique depth to Oliver is that, while he knows his purpose and has the means to go about it, he's clearly only learning things as he goes along. His skills make him deadly and whatever knowledge he gained on the island has made him a proficient tactician, but the moral quandaries of what he does are sometimes hard to reconcile. At his core, he is a spoiled child who, after a traumatic experience and obtaining a great deal of power, is on a mission of vengeance. He has little mercy and at times kills without remorse, believing himself to be justified... while simultaneously troubled by the morally grey area he wanders into. While he wishes to fulfill his father's request, no matter what, at times he realizes that there are other things that are more important. He comes to have an ally of sorts in his bodyguard, John Diggle, who helps give him perspective on the difference between right and wrong. Nonetheless, he is uncompromising in his pursuit of what he believes is right. This makes him a vigilante, one sought by the police for his various crimes... and at times, unlike with some super heroes, it truly is questionable whether what Ollie is doing is right.

Beyond his vigilante persona of the "Hood," however, Ollie must also put back together the pieces of his old life. While he is no longer the irresponsible young man he once was, at times he finds he must act like it. In order to avoid suspicion of his extracurricular activities, and to avoid other responsibilities, he must put on act. He decides to start up a night club, using it as a cover, but at the same time makes it seem like yet another one of his idle whims. He struggles to reconnect with his family and friends, at times trying to act like his old self and at other showing how he has matured. He wants to be the faithful son to his mother and a responsible older brother to his sister, but the specter of his past still haunts him. Beyond that, his vigilante activities often require him to come up with strange excuses, once again creating the perception that he's gone back to his old ways.

He also attempts to reconcile with his old girlfriend, Laurel, but that relationship is obviously strained... he was cheating on her with her sister when the boat accident occurred and her sister died. Their relationship is an important one to him, but also one he finds he needs to give up. While they retain a strained friendship, he also blesses her relationship with his closest friend. It's clear he still has feelings for her, but the conflict between what he must do and what he wants to do prevents him from acting on that.

In general, Oliver is a conflicted young man slowly coming into who he needs to be. His story is of how he becomes a hero, for it's mostly unclear whether he deserves that title at the beginning of the series. Like in most super hero stories, he struggles to juggle his dual life, which is further complicated by his years of absence and separation from those he cares about. He has to find a way to let people in again... while at the same time keeping them away.

Abilities/Powers: Oliver is a master archer, able to hit targets with unfailing accuracy and incredible speed. To practice, he regularly throws multiple tennis balls in the air, sniping them all before they hit the ground. His skills though, while impressive, remain somewhat unpolished. He trains himself regularly, keeping himself at the peak of physical fitness, but at the same time he is hardly infallible. In a duel with another archer, he finds himself outclassed and defeated. While he may eventually become the hero "Green Arrow," he isn't quite there yet.

Beyond his archery skills, he excels at hand to hand combat, and with other weapons. He has an impressive knowledge of several fields, able to do a little bit of everything from concocting medicine to doing detective work. Part of his skillset is outthinking his opponents, tracking them down in order to do what he must.

Items/Weapons: His bow, a quiver of arrows, and his signature "Hood" costume.
Sample Entry:

Alright, I don't know what's going on, but I think I deserve a break at this point. One extremely traumatic episode per life time should be enough, shouldn't it? I think I've reached my quota... I'd like to go back home now, if you don't mind.

[ although there is a certain lightness and brevity to his words, there is also a darker edge beneath them. anyone clearly listening for it can tell that, despite his jovial demeanor, he is quite annoyed. his tone shifts to be a little more serious, his flippant persona giving way to something else. ]

Look, cut me a break, alright? I've worried my family out of their wits once already... I don't want to make a habit of it. If it's money you want, fine. But there has to be something you're after... Whatever it is, I'm not your guy. I can barely manage being my guy.

[ somehow, he doubted words alone would get the job done... as usual, more serious action is required. at the same time, he still can't be too overt with his other identity. he may not know where he is, but that isn't something he's willing to reveal so easily. ]

If you keep me here... things could get very complicated for you. I don't want that and you don't want that. So just... send me back and we can forget any of this ever happened.

[ a sigh. ] Otherwise, someone's going to have to pay for this.

Sample Entry Two:

Ollie's life was always a juggling act. So much to do, and so little time to do it all. Yet at times, he had these rare moments of peace and quiet... breaks from his mission, the task he had been entrusted with. He sat in his makeshift base, the chamber he'd constructed under the former Queen Industries Factory. He came here to train and prepare, but also simply to get away from it all. It was difficult to adapt back to this life, back to how things were supposed to be here. He enjoyed it, of course. It was far preferable to the horrors he had faced back on the island, fighting for survival constantly. But somehow, at times he missed the simplicity of that place...

Here, there was so much more. His mother, his sister, his friends, his mission... A web of conflicting goals he somewhat had to maintain. But giving it up was never an option. Not to him. He had to fulfill his father's last will; that's why his father had sacrificed his own life so he might live. But beyond that, he knew he was doing good here. He was making up not only for his father's mistakes, but for his own. All the years he'd spent without a care in the world, hurting those he cared about through his own self indulgence... In a way this was penance for all of that.

Staring at father's book, the list he had given him, he went back through the names. Of course, by now he nearly had them all memorized. He had researched each and every one thoroughly after returning to Starling City, choosing the targets that seemed within reach. Most accessible. Or simply those that needed to be taken down quickest.

Standing up from his seat, he retrieved his bow from where he had left it. The tool had served him well, even back on the island. He traced his hand over its recurve shaft, staring at the Chinese inscription chiseled onto it for a moment before retrieving an arrow from nearby and notching it. These exercises were almost nothing more than a chore now; he had long since perfected his technique, but it was important to keep it honed anyway. Picking his target out of the corner of his eye, he takes only a deep breath before taking aim and letting the arrow fly without a seconds hesitation. And just as he knew it would, the arrow sinks straight into its mark, a perfect bullseye.

He'd learned well from his mentor on that island... and now the skills he'd acquired would have to be put to good use back here in Starling City. That's why he was here. That's why he'd lived through that ordeal. His father may have failed this city, but he would not.

Character Name: Battler Ushiromiya
Canon: Umineko no Naku Koro ni
Canon Point: EP4: Alliance of the Golden Witch, before the start of the 4th Game.
Background/History: Canon History | Character Background
Previous Game History: N/A
Personality: Considering how people are generally, more than half the time there are layers in which that makes someone who they are. Battler is no exception, with he himself being generally outspoken and spurts out whatever may be on his mind. You could probably tell just by looking at him what he's thinking normally, and by first glance, there is possibly several things you could assume about him. A pervert, leecher, hot-blooded, and especially, a healthy male.

Beneath that though, comes an incredibly emotional man who's stubborn and stays true to his own morals and personal opinions, who also deeply, deeply, cares about the people who are close to him. Throughout the family conferences, Battler shows joy in coming back after six years, because he remembers the fun times he had with his family and cousins. While he still holds a bit of resentment towards his father for his remarriage, he's able to cast away any of the grudge he retained for the sake of keeping the family together. However, this doesn't mean he keeps his emotions in check, as he does let it get the better of him sometimes. When the matters comes to its worse, he'll express his distraught, hands clenching his head. He isn't afraid to cry in front of loved ones.

He's also not afraid to be a complete sleaze to pretty much anyone either. If just anyone were to talk about Battler, they would not leave out his love for breasts. It's worth noting that he'd never do anything that he may say to just anyone, but he talks a lot about girls and just may attempt to try and do something perverted to said girls. Chests are his main topic to talk about, and while he may attempt, he never falls through with it. In fact, when teasing and making his way to grab one of the Ushiromiya servants' chest, he's seriously hoping someone will stop him. Funny enough, he's a firm believer of saving yourself for when you truly are in love with someone.

While he mainly plays the pervert act for jokes, he's actually really popular with girls at his school. This is because of his way of chivalry; he tends to say cheesy or what one would call very embarrassing, cliche lines, ones you'd probably see in romance novels or movies. Don't call him out on it though, as he's quick to feel stupid about saying it if its been realized.

In all actuality though, many may think Battler has a one track mind, but on the contrary, one of his many traits is to think outside the box, or rather to "flip the chessboard," a line he picked up from his step-mom Kyrie. He takes the thought of the opposing, or putting himself in their shoes, and thinks from a different perspective. However, while it's a good way to think, his stubbornness gets in the way of it at times. It should be known that Battler truly is a smart, clever guy who loves to read, but prefers to play idiot instead, hardly ever showing his intelligent side.

Battler doesn't have a "short" temper, but he doesn't have any problems doing a complete switch from happy to upset. This is where his morals and beliefs come in, as he's very passionate with what he believes in. He isn't one to never state his own opinion, in fact stands up for it strongly. He's the one who you'll sooner or later get into an argument with and his mind will never waver. And he loves it. Especially if it deals with the occult, as he is determined that humans are the cause of any matter of illusions it may seem to be. Battler will stand and fight until he can't walk anymore, and you'll be sure that he'll find some way to keep it up if he can't.

Abilities/Powers: For Battler, there isn't much for powers or abilities aside from what a normal human could possibly do. However, in this canon specifically, logic battles exist in the form of colored text in the metaworld. These include the red truth, blue truth, and gold truth. The red is definite truth, there is no denying it. The blue is for reasoning, and must abide by the red truth. It can have the same power of being a definite truth if it is not refuted by the red or gold truth, and the gold truth is divine. It's a truth that has the same principles as the red, and it shows complete understanding of the mystery/gameboard. Even a "piece" such as Battler is eligible to use it, so in a sense, Battler's abilities lies upon the use of reasoning, the blue truth, and the possibility of being able to ascend to usage of the gold truth.

He also has magic resistance, Endless Nine. He has anti-magic toxin coming all through him, making him immune to anything magic.

Items/Weapons: He won't be bringing anything.
Sample Entry: Is this okay?
Sample Entry Two: The grandfather clocks seemed to have their own schedules to attend to. The gongs could be heard from anywhere at this volume, or at least that's what Battler had thought. His mind ran through these idle thoughts, many of them one would consider being a waste of time. How long have they been ringing like this? How many times?

He had stormed away from his eternal torture, the games he had to play with the witch Beatrice. What he had witnessed was something beyond cruelty, a fate decided by the witch. His aunt, being mercilessly murdered over and over; a show of people playing with lives like if they were attached by strings. And her face? She had shown no signs of caring, but yet showed signs of a twisted happiness. Isn't that what you would expect from a witch?

No. She isn't a witch. He stuffs his hands into his pockets, grimacing.

"........Just a monster." Had he intended to keep the game going? At this point, he could care less. He doesn't know what's happening on the gameboard right now, but they wouldn't continue the game without an opponent, would they? A thought comes to mind. Maybe they're enjoying watching his family die like they mean nothing at all. A perfect sight, right? Bring some popcorn or even indulge yourself in Ronove's cookies, I don't give a shit. It was these internal insults and disappointment that often returned to Battler's head if he could not preoccupy himself with anything else.

The witch, Beatrice. No, the monster, Beato.

"You are not my opponent anymore."

Character Name: Ico
Canon: ICO
Canon Point: Just after being encased in a tomb and left to die
Background/History: Canon/in-game information.

As he grew old enough to realize the unequal way in which he was treated, Ico saw more and more he was an outcast in his own village. Despite that, he tried to work hard when given a job, learned to not argue, and apologized for any mistakes even if it wasn’t his fault. Like any other child, he only wanted to be loved by his parents and the people around him, but it never happened. He spent most of his time out of other's ways and climbing trees in the nearby forest when not given work to do, wishing he could be like the other children in the village. Even up to the day where he knew he was being taken away, Ico had tried his best to change the village's mind, but to no avail.

Personality: Due to his neglectful upbringing, Ico grew soft spoken and generally kept quiet unless spoken to first. While he never grew bitter, only compliant, he felt almost constantly lonely. He's a smart boy who often times sees a better solution, but never speaks up due to the ingrained thought that others don't want his input.

He's grown-up being told he's an "omen" and the cause of all things bad, and despite trying to stay optimistic this eventually hurts his self worth. When things do go wrong, Ico can't help but feel as if it really was his fault--or rather, his horns. He hates his horns and wishes he could just be normal. It doesn't quite occur to him that he should wish for others to accept his him as he is.

When somebody is kind enough to treat him like a human, a whole new side of Ico shows. He's still shy, but sweet and friendly. There's not a mean bone in his body and he wouldn't hurt a fly unless he absolutely had to. He has a strong sense of loyalty to those who treat him like he's human, and and even stronger sense of empathy for those who have felt hardships in their lives.

Ico grew up with so little that kindness is the greatest thing anybody could give him and he becomes attached to people who are kind to him frightfully fast because of it, willing to risk life and limb to help them, and help protect them. He feels the need to do this even more so, because a part of him still believes he's bad luck. He doesn't want to cause others trouble, so he does all he can do to help them instead...because Ico simply can't seem to pull himself away from the kindness when it's all he's ever wanted.

It was thanks to Yorda he even knew he had those feelings in him, inspiring him to be courageous and fight shadow monsters, and even venture back into the castle just to save her. Ico would never leave somebody behind if they needed his help, even if what he might have to go through was frightening and perilous. The thought of leaving Yorda (or anybody) behind like that is devastating to him, but especially so when it's someone who needed his help--and somebody he needed just as much.

Abilities/Powers: none
Items/Weapons: his sword
Sample Entry:
[A voice feed starts, some button presses can be heard, and the voice on the other side sounds young and slightly nervous. He's never used this device before, but he'd been taught how at the very least.]

Hi...um, hello. [Ico reminded himself that he needed to do this, even if the thought of addressing so many people at once was uncomfortable. He liked to take people one at a time.]

My friend doesn't feel good...does anybody know where I can get, ah...something. To make him feel better? I don't care if I have to walk all the way across town, just...please.

[Ico quickly hangs up, and waits for any replies to come in.]

Sample Entry Two:
Ico was feeling useless amongst his older roommates. They were all kind to him, and all he wanted to do was prove his worth and help them in any way he could. So today Ico had snuck out against advisory, taken up his sword, a bag, and started to climb around the ruins of various buildings.

While he couldn't move rubble out of his way, he had enough strength him to climb over most obstacles. Ico searched all throughout several buildings, filling his bag up until it weighted heavy on his shoulder with clothes, canned food, and anything he thought might be useful to his roommates.

Ico hurried his way back to the apartments just before nightfall, and just before it was likely the others would start to worry. He quietly snuck in regardless, trying his best not to disturb as he emptied the bag of goodies on to the table, hoping it would serve as a pleasant surprise for his roommates when they saw it.

Character Name: Desmond Miles
Canon: Assassin's Creed
Canon Point: Brotherhood; right as he touches the Apple.
Background/History: Here!

Personality: Desmond isn't the sort of person that exudes 'assassin' from the moment you meet him. His outward demeanor is one of a calm, collected sort of guy that just doesn't give a shit about most things. For a long time, that wouldn't have been an inaccurate assessment. It's still not entirely inaccurate, but things have changed for Desmond.

When you get down to it, Desmond is a dedicated but relaxed and irreverent sort of guy. It's just that he's not always dedicated to a cause that actually seems like a cause. For a long time, his main goal in life was just being left alone. He didn't want to be an Assassin. He didn't want to toil his days away training. He didn't want to murder people for political causes. He just wanted to mix martinis and his signature 'Shirley Templars' at a bar in New York, ride his motorcycle around, and live his life like he was a normal person that thought an assassin was a killer for higher and a Templar was a member of a long defunct order of knights.

For you see, Desmond has a terrible habit of running from his problems until he's forced to confront them. By far, the biggest conflict he has is accepting that he is, in fact, an Assassin. When he was 16 he ran from his parents, convinced that they were just conspiracy freaks chasing shadows and hiding from nothing. The brutal training, secluded lifestyle, and constant lectures about the danger of the Templars and the need to fight back against him began to seem just so ridiculous to him. The ibuprofen company is evil -- yeah, okay. So he just left, running away from his home on his 16th birthday and never looking back.

In a lot of ways he's still running. Sure, he's joined the fight against the Templars and has started willingly entering the Animus again, but his stated reason for doing so isn't that it's the right thing, or that the Templars need to be stopped, or that he feels a kinship with the Assassins. According to him, he's just in it because of what was done to him, and presumably to prevent it from happening again. He's expressed a desire to protect Lucy but that's an entirely personal motivation. Lucy is his friend before she's a fellow Assassin, he he treats her as such -- as his friend first, as an Assassin a distant second.

Which isn't to say that Desmond isn't friendly and sociable to anyone regardless of their allegiances. He finds it easy to chat with other people, and he has an irreverent sense of humor. While working as a bartender, his signature drink was the Shirley Templar -- he invented it the drink and named it all on his own, mind. He prefers to make fun of his problems and anxieties rather than really acknowledging that they are, in fact, problems and anxieties. He's self-depreciating in the extreme -- he joked about being forced to swim in the sewer and about being left in the darkness to be eaten alive by bats. He also enjoys gently teasing his teammates, such as gently ribbing Lucy about her serious, business-like manner. Usually, he's very good about accepting teasing in return. There's lots of eye-rolling and the periodic annoyed look. but rarely any actual anger or dismay.

There is, of course, an important exception to that rule. Desmond does not respond well to jibes and taunts about his worth as a member of his team (at least, he doesn't when they come from Lucy and Rebecca-- he seems to expect nothing less from Shaun). Lucy's comment of 'you don't work, you don't eat!' was clearly a joke, but it didn't make Desmond laugh -- it upset him, and he wasn't reassured when she insisted it was just a joke. He and Rebecca's brief snit after his taunt to Altaïr's statue left him sullen and perhaps a little passive aggressive, considering he would persist in repeating the quote that started the whole argument in the first place.

But, again, Desmond is usually a pretty chill, relaxed guy. Despite his avoidance of certain issues and situations he's also a pretty curious guy; he would frequently pester all three of his teammates with questions and in search of conversation. He happily read and listened to every single one of Shaun's database entries, even the wordier of them. Whenever he had a moment out of the Animus he would chat easily with any of the three. He seems to have a fondness of learning, because his most extensive conversations have been with Shaun, who is always quick to give Desmond a history lesson. Desmond is a good listener and fairly intuitive, as he doesn't seem to have any trouble following complicated situations like Italian Renaissance politics.

Abilities/Powers: ▲ Eagle Vision: A sight-based sixth sense that gives Desmond a more through understanding of the world around him. When activated, Eagle Vision filters the rest of the world out into a greyish haze while allies are highlighted as blue, enemies or spilled blood as red, targets as gold, and hiding spots or information sources as white. Eagle Vision is not infallible; for example, if he truly believes someone to be his ally, they will be displayed as blue regardless of the truth -- sometimes even after they've revealed their true colors.

▲ Melee Combat: Desmond is pretty handy in a fight, and equally handy with either a hidden blade or his bare fists; he has considerable skill when it comes to fighting groups of enemies. Presumably, he can also use a sword or dagger with an equal degree of skill. Other notable skills include disarming, countering enemy attack, and dodging.

▲ Assassin Skills: Eavesdropping, pickpocketing, blending in with the crowds, and murder: these are all skills essential to the Assassins and Desmond is well-trained in these methods. While he's not so skilled as to vanish into the crowds forever, he is skilled enough to hide from multiple groups for seven years. Due to the Bleeding Effect he is versed in special assassination techniques, but he's never had a chance to put them into practice.

▲ Parkour: A sort of martial art based around moving quickly and efficiently across urban terrain. Parkour employs a combination of running, jumping, climbing, and controlled falling, all of which Desmond is thoroughly trained in. If he is in a reasonable state of health, he can scale almost any structure with adequate handholds.

Items/Weapons:
- A single flare/glowstick
- Hidden Blade
- Apple of Eden // Put simply, the Apple is an ancient device used to create illusions and control minds, both of which can be used to inflict very real harm on others, or at least inflict mental truama on them. However, using the Apple to do either is painful and draining. Prolonged use can kill the user.

Sample Entry: Post at Exit Void

Sample Entry Two: "Helloooooo!" The words, unsurprisingly, echoed back and forth over and over again through the empty stone tower. Desmond scowled upward. Typical. Just typical. They finally started to make progress in their merry little hunt and then suddenly he got side-tracked and found a shiny, new, interesting room, and then he'd gotten stuck because certain parts of the architecture had decided now was a good time to give out. Getting out of the small, dark room and into some sort of underground tower hadn't helped his mood much.

So now here he was, attempting to scale the wall in the vain hope of finding an exit or Lucy or Rebecca or even Shaun, at this point; he was doing just fine, but he was mad so he considered it 'attempting'. He would be happy, he knew, for any hint that he hadn't completely screwed himself over by deciding to do a little bit of exploring. By the time he reached the top of the 'tower', close enough now to see the cracked ceiling in detail he realized that he wasn't going to find he answers up here.

Grumbling, he started his climb back down. He'd try the door at the bottom, he thought, and if he didn't have any luck there... well, he didn't want to think about that. He still wasn't sure what this place was. He was used to hidden rooms in massive buildings with weirdly functional ancient machinery in them, but this was strange even on his level.

The others were gonna be pissed when he finally caught up with them again, but he honestly wasn't sure if that would bug him very much. Seeing them again even if they were angry would be better than not seeing them again at all.

Character Name: Wander
Canon: Shadow of the Colossus
Canon Point: After he defeats the 8th colossus. At this point he's starting to physically change his appearance a little.

Background/History: SOTC wiki: http://shadowofthecolossus.wikia.com/wiki/Shadow_Of_The_Colossus_Wiki
Wander wiki info: http://shadowofthecolossus.wikia.com/wiki/Wander

Personality:

After any first encounter with Wander, It'd be safe to assume that he obviously doesn't spend a lot of time talking with people, if any. He is very shy and unsure of himself when in conversation, due to his lack of friends and social interaction growing up. Wander wasn't the most popular kid in the village. Most of the other kids thought he was weird, and would start rumors about his hair being a bad omen from the gods. It was just an old superstition, but a lot of his peers took it seriously, and so Wander spent less time trying to get along with other kids and more time running off into the forest to swim in the lake, climb the trees, and spend time with the animals. It was hard at first, but eventually Wander becomes at peace with how things are. He'd rather spend time out in nature and helping his father with his blacksmith shop than with the other kids, eventually. It's not all bad, especially not when he meets his first and only friend, Mono. He grows a deep appreciation for what he has and could not be happier. When his father dies at 15, it's hard for him. But with Mono's support he does not even let that destroy his attitude. Because he's not alone, he still has Mono.

The game does not state specifically why Mono is killed, just that she was sacrificed "for she had a cursed life". But having the last and only person in the world that cared about, and the only girl he had ever loved taken from him shattered his world into so many pieces he grew disoriented and sorrowful. But the thing about Wander is that his stubbornness never fades. Mono was taken from him, so he will just have to take her back. That's when he steals the Legendary Sword and travels to the Forbidden Lands in search of a way to revive his lost love. Even as he was told he had to slay 16 Colossi to bring her back he did not hesitate to except the deal, uncaring about the price he would have to pay. He didn't even ask. He set his mind to do something, and that's all he wanted was to get it done.

That being said, love is a very important aspect of Wander's life, and therefore he takes the subject very seriously. Some may even say too seriously. Love was all Wander had to live by. His love for his father and his father's love for him, his love for Mono, and the love he knew his father had for his mother (who had died giving birth to Wander). It was something he grew up around and based his life on. He even extends this to his love of nature, because the trees and birds were always there for him. He genuinely believes love and passion and just the human will in general is a driving force, therefore he has a lot of faith in people with strong convictions. Though if Wander's written love poems and collection of romance stories he's gathered is anything to go by, he definitely believes love is the strongest force. He's almost like a Disney princes.

But despite the hand Wander was given, if someone approaches him with a smile he will return it while silently thanking the heavens for a chance to have any sort of positive social interaction. He doesn't hate people or begrudge them for how he grew up, but welcomes any chance he gets to make a friend and prove that he can be there for them no matter what. Even if...he tends to scare easily in social interactions, blustering and flailing until he ends up saying something dumb. He's not the brightest bulb(and often very naive), but he makes up for it in kindness and his willingness to learn. He's a hard worker for sure, due to the fact that his father instilled a strong work ethic in him at a young age.

When it comes down to it, Wander is a teenager with strong beliefs, an unwavering determination, and a loooot of love to give.

Abilities/Powers:
Archery - Wander is very proficient with a bow. He can fire and hit his target while on horseback, standing or sitting!

Climbing things - Throughout the game Wander is constantly climbing on large structures, most of which are moving and trying to shake him off! His upper body strength is pretty impressive!

(He has a sword, but judging by the way he swings the thing in game it's safe to assume he sucks with it)

Items/Weapons: A bow, sword, and quiver with a few arrows. Unless the arrows and quiver are two separate items then just the quiver?

Sample Entry: Wander being naive and falling for someone's fake compassion & Wander being naive again and not running for the hills instead of speaking to two obviously unsafe people

Sample Entry Two:

Wander didn't like Haven. Not just because he desperately needed to be somewhere else right now, saving Mono, but because the lack of green disturbed him greatly. He avoided going out if he could, but today he had decided to get a good idea of the land. And walking down the middle of the street, he couldn't help but wonder about the lack of lush green trees, or singing birds. There was not even a lizard in sight, though occasionally he would spot a rat. Nature wasn't just quiet here, but nonexistent.

The large stoney building looming over him made him feel uncomfortable and alone. He had tried to sit atop one, like he would back home on the trees, but the ledge crumbled and he almost fell off the roof. It just wasn't the same. And every time he walked the town of Haven, he contemplated turning back to the apartments. But he couldn't. He had roommates, and they all had to work together to get supplies. That meant he would have to walk these unnerving streets no matter how he felt about it.

But Wander couldn't think clearly without fresh air, or the rustling of leaves in the wind. So in a desperate attempt to get some of that old feeling back, he walks over to the nearest building and begins to scale alongside it. It takes him a few minutes, having almost fallen a couple of times, before he reaches the roof. Taking one look around, he doesn't feel any better being up high like he thought he would. It was just as ugly up here as it had been down there, and he couldn't help as his face scrunched up in distaste. Walking over to the edge of the roof and looking over the town only made his heart sink. The breeze did nothing to calm his nerves.

It was all so desolate and lonely. Dead.

"This was a mistake", he mutters to himself as he turns around to leave. Perhaps he'll remain in the apartment until someone needs him.

Personality:

Imagine being governed by a set of laws so absolute that even thinking of challenging them sends you skidding towards the edge of the narrow path labeled as "right" and "good", where just one more illicit thought or action will result in you toppling right off the surface and plunging into the void of "bad", never to see your homeland again. In that case, nobody will protest; nobody will save you. Friends, family, loved ones — to them, you're nothing more than a criminal. After all, there's no hope for those that break the «Taboo Index».

This is the belief that shapes not only Eugeo's way of living, but also the lives of generations upon generations before him. Why? Simply put, not teaching the Index in school is considered to be breaking the Index. For this reason, children in «UnderWorld» — or at least in the «Human World», where most of Eugeo's story takes place — are taught the «Taboo Index» in a similar way to how we are taught our times tables; only for them, failing to memorize the contents is not an option. «Treason against the Church» or «Murder», «Thievery» are just a few of the thousands of prohibitions stated on the list of «Things one does not attempt»... or rather, «Things one cannot attempt».

Eugeo, to be frank, was never supposed to be an anomaly. The «Taboo Index» decreed that all children above the age of ten, unless under exceptional circumstances such as being daughter of the village chief, must be given a «Sacred Task» which cannot be changed unless accomplished. As the third son of a simple «Farmer» without a surname, Eugeo was definitely no exception. Designated with the task of «Gigas Cedar Cutter», everyone, including Eugeo himself, expected that he would be swinging an axe at the seemingly invincible tree until he retired of old age.

Gentle, humble, yet fundamentally a nobody; this was how Eugeo was meant to live until the end. With easy access to food, water and shelter in a place where war was a «Taboo» and therefore inconceivable, his fate wasn't exactly terrible. Like the others in his village, all he could do was willingly accept it. Was he content? ... Well, he had to be.

But.

— Screw fate, he would say.

He being Kirigaya Kazuto, known to Eugeo merely as "Kirito"; the strange «Lost Child of Vector» who just happened to be Eugeo's best friend. If Eugeo was the straight path, the "right" and "good" path, Kirito was the secret passageway that curved cheekily above and around the road in new, sometimes dangerous directions... and yet somehow still managed to avoid the dark, bottomless realm of "bad". More importantly, Kirito would never forgive anyone who called Eugeo a "nobody".

Call it luck if you will, but the brave, boisterous Kirito does indeed make his mark on the sheltered, obedient Eugeo. Ironically, you could say it's because of Kirito that Eugeo's adventure truly begins.

Let's play the blame game for a moment. If eleven year old Kirito hadn't suggested getting ice from the caves by the «Mountain range at the Edge», Alice wouldn't have had to approve the idea. If Alice hadn't approved, Eugeo wouldn't have reluctantly agreed to go. Moreover, Eugeo would have been able to reject Kirito's reckless idea if Alice hadn't been on Kirito's side. And if they hadn't gone, Alice wouldn't have violated the «Taboo Index» by accidentally trespassing in the «Dark Territory», causing her to be arrested and taken away by an Integrity Knight the next day.

Of course, Eugeo would sooner cut off his own arm than blame someone else for that incident. In his memory, he's the one who took a wrong turning and led Alice not to the exit that would take them back home, but to an opening into the «Dark Territory». It's his fault that Alice had to see an injured Knight collapse near the mouth of the cave. If she hadn't seen that, she wouldn't have tried to help. Even then, if only he'd pulled her back instead of being frozen to the spot like a coward... if he'd done that, then she wouldn't have fallen outside the boundary and touched the ground of the forbidden «Dark Territory».

That's not even his biggest regret. No, the scene that haunts him the most is the memory of the next day. When the Integrity Knight came for Alice, his childhood friend, humiliating and condemning her in front of the whole village... as much as he wanted to help, as much as he felt that he should receive the same punishment, he couldn't do anything. It wasn't even fear; it was the [SYSTEM], some bizarre entity that he couldn't understand. It was like some invisible force was chaining his limbs to the ground while a voice inside his head that wasn't his own was reminding him that the law was absolute. While Alice smiled as her body was bound, her eyes telling him "Goodbye", he couldn't lift a finger or even call out to her as she was taken away.

So there's the root of the conflict within Eugeo's heart. Now, we're going to carefully erase Kirito from the picture. Erase, mind you; not remove. It's like writing 20 + 20 = 40 and then scrubbing out the zeros to get 2  + 2  = 4 . There's some slight gaps, but the equation makes sense regardless. Except those zeros are Kirito and the equation is Eugeo's memory. Basically, he's forgotten that Kirito exists. The events that lead up to Alice's arrest still happen, just without Kirito. Sometimes Eugeo will remember "somebody else" yelling at him to do something while Alice is being taken, but that's more like an echo of the past than a true memory.

Confusing? It should be. Blame the crazy bunch of scientists in the «Real World» experimenting with «Artificial Souls», or «Fluctlights», to create tools of war. Naturally, Kirito — or rather, Kirigaya Kazuto — is also from the «Real World», but Eugeo doesn't know that. Neither does Kirito, at least for a while. Technology made it possible for Kirigaya Kazuto, an ordinary high school student in Japan, able to «Dive» into the «UnderWorld» and experience the first eleven years of his life there, with no knowledge of the «Real World», in the space of just eighteen «Real World» hours. To the eleven year olds Eugeo and Kirito, they, together with Alice, grew up as best friends in Rulid Village. As for the seventeen year olds Eugeo and Kirito, both with no memory of each other... against all odds, they become the closest of friends.

Okay, maybe not all odds. There's one very big odd-killing element to this whole puzzle, and that's the fact that while Kirito's memories of Rulid Village are blocked off, he does retain his «Real World» self — in other words, Kirigaya Kazuto. This time, Kazuto knows that he's running around in some virtual reality, and that "Kirito" is his chosen alias. And Kirito is one heck of a swordsman.

Eugeo learns. Of course he does. Kirito's different. He possesses what the villagers lack, and that's hope. To the village, once someone's broken the «Taboo Index», they're gone. Dead. Nonexistent. While Eugeo does hold some hope deep down that Alice is alive, it's tentative, guilt fueled and definitely nothing to act on. Then Kirito comes along and suddenly he's fighting goblins, rescuing little girls from said goblins, and cutting down the "immortal" «Gigas Cedar» in five days flat with this crazy sword move he's never seen before. With his designated «Sacred Task» complete, suddenly his dreamlike fantasy of rescuing Alice from the «Axiom Church», the issuer and overseer of the «Taboo Index», doesn't seem so far fetched anymore.

Granted, he still needs encouragement. By no means is he totally self assured at this point; when the time comes for Eugeo to declare his next «Sacred Task», Kirito's afraid that he'll choose something ridiculous such as «Farmer» rather than the «Swordsman» he spent his whole life longing to be. What Kirito doesn't realize is that Eugeo's already starting to change by then. Kirito's personality is infectious, and the once meek Eugeo is turning into someone... less... meek.

As for how they become so close: if you spent every day for two years training, eating and sleeping in each other's company, you'd be pretty close too. At nineteen, Eugeo's basically Kirito without the outrageousness. His words have become more casual, though still retaining the minimal level of politeness. And he's comfortable enough with Kirito to crack jokes, even giving Kirito "not again" looks instead of freaking out with worry every time his black haired friend does something unreasonable. In other words, he trusts Kirito, to both look after himself and to back Eugeo up when needed. Also, he can smile. After the incident with Alice, Eugeo stopped smiling among the villagers, most likely out of guilt. Looks like the wound's finally healing a little.

With that healing, he also gains a backbone. No longer is he prepared to obediently absorb insults from those that see him as little more than dirt. If it's just a jibe at him, he'll silently take it, though not without some mental remark of protest. But the people that talk down to him tend to also direct their bullying condescension at everyone around him, and that's what Eugeo won't stand for. When the nobles mock the «Aincrad Style» he uses, Eugeo vehemently objects, because the style itself isn't just a way of the sword but treasured gift taught to him by Kirito. When he learns that the same nobles are making one of their female valets do indecent deeds, he's the one who decides to confront them, with Kirito following behind.

One thing to know about Eugeo before we go any further is that he's a stranger to extreme emotion. The only time he's vented anger before is once as a kid out of jealousy over unfair treatment. He got rebuked for it and never did it again. Since then, any time he's ever begun to feel anything remotely out of line, he's quickly suppressed it, seeing such emotions as shameful.

But when he's listening to fourth class nobles Raios Antinous and Humbert Zizek talking about violating a girl like it's some kind of joke, Eugeo can't help but resent them. He barely manages to keep his cool, and it's actually Kirito that prevents him from losing it. On leaving the room, his initial desire is to punch the wall before begrudgingly realizing that not only would that be the very example of anger venting, but would also likely reduce the «Life» of the building, i.e. someone else's property, and therefore breach the «Taboo Index».

To the eleven year old «Gigas Cedar Cutter» Eugeo of Rulid Village, the «Taboo Index» was more important than Alice's life. If someone accused the nineteen year old «Elite Swordsman-in-training» Eugeo of the Master Swords Academy of thinking in such a way, he'd undoubtedly cast his eyes downward and give some incomprehensible murmur. Yet no matter how strong his regret, and no matter how desperately he wants to see Alice again, he still can't betray the absolute law of the «Axiom Church». His goal may indeed be to rise to the top of the Master Swords Academy, win the Four Empires Unity Tournament and become an Integrity Knight in order to enter the «Central Cathedral» and take Alice home, but he's conveniently forgetting that freeing a criminal is surely committing a «Taboo» anyway.

Sometimes, one final push is all it takes.

It's a day after Eugeo's confrontation with the Raios and Humbert. Eugeo's in a bedroom, forced to watch the nobles attempt rape on two sixteen year old girls. Seconds before penetration, Eugeo regains control of his limbs, frozen just as they were on the day he lost Alice, and breaks the «Taboo Index».

"Humans were existences that held both good and evil from the start."

"The Taboo Index held back no more than a mere, single portion of humans' evil."

Eight years after his childhood friend was taken away, Eugeo comes to this understanding, and chooses his heart over the «Taboo Index». Even when the blood colored «Seal» declaring [SYSTEM ALERT:CODE871] in some foreign language flashes across his right eye before the eye itself explodes out of its socket, he fights the pain for the sake of «Obligation»—

"There were things that must be done even if prohibited by the law. Something more important than the law, the taboo, the Axiom Church."

— to protect what's «right» and «good».

That night, «Fifth Ranking Elite Swordsman-in-training» Eugeo, having cut off a noble's arm and therefore reduced another being's «Life» becomes «Criminal Eugeo».

But it doesn't matter to him. With his sealed right eye regenerated by a kind Sister using the Sacred Arts, he has nothing left to hinder the resolve in his soul. The method may be different to how he'd planned, but either way, it means that he'll reach the «Central Cathedral», where Alice is being kept captive; just bound to the leg of a dragon as a prisoner rather than riding on its back as an Integrity Knight.

"In short, compared to this jail which could be said to be a mark of the Axiom Church’s authority—that is to say, a place where one should remain until a pardon was received from god, Alice was already more important than that to him."

Abilities/Powers:

Physical Strength: Having swung a heavy axe at a giant tree two thousand times daily for seven years, Eugeo's physical strength is above that of an average human. Even his temporary mentor, Gorgolosso, who boasted about his steel-like body, praised Eugeo's body for being "slender, but masterly trained".

Swordsmanship: For the past two years, Eugeo has trained himself in the «Aincrad Style», a sword "school" coined and taught to him by Kirito. As a style, it forgoes form of techniques for practicality and speed, focusing on the basic point of landing a hit with the sword beyond anything else. Eugeo has also mastered the secret moves «Horizontal», «Slant» and «Vertical Arc», which are slashes that more or less do what they say on the tin. Secret moves are activated using... imagination... and made stronger by willpower!!... like sword skills in VRMMOs. They even make the sword glow when used! That's just for reference. If mention a VRMMO to Eugeo, he'll probably blink and ask you to repeat yourself.

Sacred Arts: Canon doesn't clearly specify what the Sacred Arts actually are, but they're essentially your generic magic spells you'd get in a typical RPG. Eugeo only knows the basics, so the most he'll do with them is on the scale of lighting a small fire when it's dark, etc. He's unlikely to use Sacred Arts as a method of defense or offense.

Horses: Eugeo spent five months working as a stable boy to earn traveling money. He's good with horses.

Items/Weapons:

‣ A steel chain of approximately 1.20 meters, handcuffed to his right wrist.

‣ The uniform (far left) he's wearing at pull point.

Sample Entry:

Huh? A mirror...?

[ Of all the bizarre things he could find in his pocket, why a mirror? Aside from the fact that he didn't put it there, it's— well, it's a really strange object. Firstly, the surface is much too small to be of any use, and secondly... um, it's a little thick to be an economical mirror. It's like someone decided to cut something in a nearly perfect cuboid, except with rounded corners and edges, and then hastily decided to make it show one's reflection. And then there's the matter of it only showing a reflection on a single one of its surfaces. ]

... Aah, why am I wasting my time on something so superficial? I woke up in some unknown location, only to find that Kirito had disappeared... I really should be investigating my surroundings. [ He shakes his head and flops into a sitting position on his bed, placing the strange contraption beside him, camera directed at the ceiling— all while waiting for Kirito to chip in with some teasing comment about how carefree he, Eugeo, is acting. Unknowingly, he brushes one of the phone's buttons — yeah, why does that mirror have buttons? — and turns the video function on. ]

[ ... ]

Y-You're really not here, are you? [ For the first time, he lets a tremor slip into his voice. Deep down, he knows that he's only talking aloud to banish the silence created by Kirito's absence in this sinister place. ] Oi, Kirito... [ I don't know what to do. ]

[ But. ]

Yeah... those were the words you said, weren't they? Stay cool. Even though this definitely isn't a goodbye — I... I won't allow it... — that catchphrase of yours seems fitting here, somehow.

[ Honestly, he's still expecting his friend to leap through the window at any moment with a grin on his face and a bag of too many honey pies in his hand. ]

Sample Entry Two:

The «Class 24 Object» was like a feather in his hand compared to the sturdy weight of his beloved «Blue Rose Sword». At the thought of his lost possession, a familiar pang ran through his chest; not nearly as strong as wrenching ache that would assault his whole torso whenever he let his thoughts linger for too long on Alice, but an unwelcome sensation nonetheless. That glamorous sword of ice, a masterpiece in every sense... there was no way that this makeshift weapon he was holding now could compare to that «Divine Object», the «Class 45» companion that had been alongside him from the beginning of his journey.

Not that he was ungrateful. A sword was a sword, and this silver one deserved as much respect as any other. Stroking the hilt in silent thanks before snapping his eyes forward to the pile of logs directly ahead of him, Eugeo drew in a deep breath as he bowed once and then assumed a neutral stance. Judging by the position of Solus in the sky, the time was approaching 8 in the morning. 2000 strikes before dusk. That was his target.

Day after day after day he repeated this act, refusing to stop until his burning arms completed the 2000th strike. Sometimes he was so exhausted that the stars came out long before he finished, but he would stubbornly see the last strike through to the end even if it meant collapsing afterward. This was not unlike the repeated act of striking the «Gigas Cedar» he carried out without fail 2000 times every day for seven years... except a sword definitely required more skill to wield than an axe.

Just to clarify: by «pile» of logs, he actually meant «mountain». If such a giant heap more than four mels tall and three mels in diameter didn't exist, Eugeo would have to have taken his sword practice elsewhere. Despite such convenience, one would probably suspect that even such a large supply of logs would eventually lose all their «Life» and be rendered useless for training after being struck 2000 times daily. That's just common sense, right?

Except this is «No Man's Land», and this location is— ah, how should he put it... "peculiar". It's true that Eugeo witnessed the «Life» of the logs dropping to nearly zero day after day, but after the first, second and third days of returning here, he would always find a brand new supply of «Class 20 Object» logs waiting for him in an untouched pile. Four mels tall, three mels wide, and good as new. After that, he stopped questioning the phenomenon and just deemed it a blessing from Stacia (which, Eugeo secretly thought, were becoming increasingly rare).

2000 strikes per day, every day with his silver sword without a name. That's all he could do for now.
