Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:
Canon Characters:

Personality:
Brat Allen – I mean Bart - is a speedster. From the future. Due to this, he tends to speak, think and act fast. His thought process moves so fast that it can often leave people confused – he moves on from topic to topic before anyone can catch up to him. Being from the future, Bart is always amazed at things that are different than his own home (which was an apocalyptic wasteland) and shows a lot less tact than most people (such as eating junk food and commenting on dead heroes in their presence) though he doesn't mean to come off like that. He can be annoying and bothersome to people, and a lot of people aren't quite sure what to make of him, but he's a good kid at heart. Bart doesn't really understand when he's being annoying or why people think that way, but he brushes it off quickly. His speed seems to bleed over into his emotions – he can appear happy at one second, then angry – then he gets over it, and is back to being excitable. He's always energetic, though he calms down quite a bit after his first episode.

Bart also has a motormouth. He's absolutely horrible at keeping secrets, unless everything he's worked for depends on it. As mentioned above, he has no tact whatsoever, and some of what he says can sound insulting, even if he doesn't mean it like that. Sometimes he moves on from things too quickly and people have to remind him to slow down so that he can fully get what's going on. He's also a good liar – he came to the past to stop Blue Beetle from enslaving mankind, but wouldn't tell people about it at first. He manipulated people into helping him save Neutron and pretended to be stuck in the past, and at first wouldn't explain everything he knew. Even after telling Jaime about it, he still didn't want everyone else to find out in the off chance that one of the League would ignite the apocalypse. However, he's opened up a lot since then and now considers himself a part of the team – which includes acting like it. Where he was once a bit ignorant, Bart's grown into understanding people and what he should and shouldn't do. He's not good at being told off, either – sometimes taking it a bit too personally, though he's shown to get over it pretty quickly. If someone shows how annoyed they are at him, he'll feel bad quickly, like all of his momentum drying out.

As his superhero name implies, Bart is impulsive and often does whatever he wants on any whim possible. He shows up at people's houses in costume, shows little care for secret identities ("What's the point of hiding how crash we are?") and busts into people's private spaces. And takes their food. However, he's a good kid – he's willing to throw himself into any dangerous situation in order to help his friends and innocent people. Even when it might seem like a dead end, Bart never gives up. He's highly resourceful, an example being is he worked on a time machine in order to save the world, knowing that he'd never be able to get back to his own time.

Bart doesn't see himself as annoying, in fact he's a little full of himself when it comes to being a speedster. He likes teasing people about speed – even people he looks up to, like Wally West. He has a rather high opinion of himself, though in the beginning it was more of an act – in order to keep the future hidden and to win over the people he met in the past, he got “into character” and acted it out. He acted friendly towards Jaime/Blue Beetle in order to keep an eye on him because of what would happen with The Reach. Originally, Bart was serious and bitter when it came to his own timeline - he lived in an apocalyptic time and lying, scavenging, etc were all necessities. He was also angry about superheroes not being treated as heroes - it bothers him that they kept the memorials for the fallen ones underground. However, he knows his own limits and while he pushes himself the best he can, he knows what his speed can do, as well as what it can't. Bart also thinks he's the coolest shit in the world, which is objective… he is pretty cool. Sometimes. A lot of people in Young Justice don't agree. While he acts all high and mighty about being THE AWESOME BART ALLEN he can be grounded pretty quickly, though he still acts pretty highly about being The Flash's grandson, as well as super handsome and witty and all that. It's hard to point out what may be an act to him and what isn't now, as he's gotten into the character of being IMPULSE pretty heavily, though once the truth came out about the future, there wasn't much use for him to keep up the charade - it's generally implied that he accepted the hyper nature of Impulse. As time goes on, Bart becomes less hyper, more mellow - though still extremely fast and energetic, he isn't always putting on a huge show for everyone.

His primary goal was to stop Blue Beetle from going evil, specifically by not letting him be anything but a hero. In order to do this, Bart traveled from the future to help Neutron and to keep an eye on Blue Beetle, in order to save him from The Reach. However, he's also a superhero – saving innocent people is his deal! He really just wants to help out people in need – friends and family especially. Even if he offhandedly insults The Flash and Kid Flash, Bart truly looks up to them and adores every member of his family, and can't contain how happy he was to see them when he arrived in the past. At the end of the series, Wally told him that he could take up the costume of Kid Flash and Bart was thrilled – he saw it as an honour. He promised Kid Flash that he'd make him proud. After Wally died, Bart wore the costume, even if he was nervous about it.

Bart has trouble relating to people in the past, as he grew up in a completely different situation. However, he learns quickly and gets better at it as he gets closer to people. He acts completely friendly and familiar to almost anyone he talks to and doesn't have much of a filter, so it's a hit or miss with him. Despite his nature, he's good at being a friend. He's someone who breaks the ice in any conversation by throwing a bomb at it. He's the type to joke in bad situations, especially if it's considered “not a good time”. Bart tends to lighten up all situations by joking around.

As mentioned above, Bart is a speedster. He speaks faster and doesn't always end his sentences properly. He thinks in quick bursts too – he'll go from one subject to another in the span of milliseconds. Bart doesn't need to eat to keep up his energy like Wally does, but he eats a lot anyways. He also uses slang from the future – i.e. he switches out positive words for ‘crash'. That's so crash! He also likes to play with people, especially when it comes to his speed – he loves running circles around people, etc. In that way, he's a bit of a troll – teasing people is in his nature, and he can be a bit sarcastic at times, even if he likes to make people feel better in general.

Character Name: Donnel "Donny" Tinhead (though his last name is not known by many, and is more-so just a trivia fact).
Canon: Fire Emblem: Awakening.
Canon Point: Post-game (I'll be playing him from the ending where Robin takes the final strike on Grima).
Background/History: Right here is a link to Donnel's wiki page./This one is a link to Fire Emblem: Awakening's wiki page!
Personality: Best described as kind, obedient, and hard-working, Donnel genuinely loves to help others for the sake of their happiness. This is understandable because of the environment he grew up in; where he comes from, a small, old-fashioned village, it's only right to always think of others, put them before yourself, and act civilized and generous towards everyone around you. This is evident when Donnel's mother chastises him for not bowing down to Chrom, their continent's exalt, and treating him with utmost respect.

Donnel has always given to everyone without expecting anything in return. For example, when one of the army's dark mages needed certain rare animals for her spells, he didn't hesitate a bit to help her. He was able to catch animals very easily because of his exceptional hunting skills. The first time she asked him, Tharja (the dark mage) didn't even give him an explanation, yet he still didn't ask any questions. He kept doing this until she asked him what he wanted from her; no one could ever slave around for her unless they wanted her to perform a spell in return, right? So he told her that he didn't want anything - back in his village, it was expected of everyone to help the dark mages as much as they could whenever they would be performing a hex. When she didn't believe him and kept asking, he finally told her that he wanted her to perform a hex to stop the common cold from going around in their military camp.

Further presenting Donnel's ability to obey and comply with others' requests, he once read an extremely lengthy book of laws and memorized all of it in one night because someone told him that he needed to learn proper conduct and said that they would teach him how to be a proper gentleman. He said that he read it because it was unfair to keep it for too long, since it was a present from the girl's father, and that he shouldn't "sit on it." He then proceeded to recite all of it in front of her just from memory.

❝'Sides, it's mighty nice of ya to teach me, so I owe it to ya to do my part.❞

In retrospect, it's quite easy to see how much responsibility he takes for such a young boy. His age is never stated, but he's supposedly the youngest member of the army. Even though he's not very good at it, he still tries to cook for everyone because he understands how hard they all work and respects them for it. In addition, he also supports them in their hobbies and endeavors outside of battle as best as he can. Although he didn't quite understand a certain character's nature because of how hyper and neurotic she was, he still spent time with her just because she was feeling down and wanted to play.

❝Aw, shucks, Nowi! I think yer a real hoot, too!❞

Another striking quality about Donnel is how he always keeps true to his word and is genuinely a good human being; his late father gave him his most prized stone, saying it had a mysterious power that he had not yet discovered, because Donnel promised to find out what its power and importance was. He still keeps it dear to him, even though his father passed away, and says that because it was his father's biggest treasure, it was also his, and protected it with all he could. He still wanted to discover what its wonders were after the war was over.
Abilities: Donnel lived on a farm in a tiny village before joining Chrom's army, and it's evident that he performed hard labor there. He claims to enjoy plowing fields, herding livestock, and planting/tending to the seasonal crop, which is a foreshadowing of his potential strength.

Once recruited, he starts out in the villager class; he can only wield lances, has low statistics (which basically means he's not strong, isn't fast, and can't defend himself very well), and to be frank, he's not very useful. It's hard to even recruit him into the army under his circumstances because of how difficult it is to battle using him. In short, he hinders the army he's a part of instead of helping them. However, as the game advances and characters level up, Donnel's abilities finally shine after the dark times of trying to raise his experience points.

His stats rocket so high that he's able to take an enemy out single-handedly while just being in the villager class (the weakest class in the game). Reclassing him makes for an even more powerful soldier; though this is controversial, Donnel can end up being one of the most powerful, important, and valuable soldiers in the whole game. He can level up to be:

-a mercenary, who wields swords. Mercenaries upgrade to heroes, who also wield swords as well as axes.
-a fighter, who wields axes. Fighters upgrade to either heroes or warriors (warriors use axes).
-or a bow knight, who wields both bows and swords. This class does not upgrade to anything.
Items/Weapons: I'll be playing Donnel as a fighter that was upgraded to a hero. With that, he'll be bringing an iron axe, a vulnerary (vulneraries restore the user's health by a small amount, and are good for three uses), and the stone his father gave him before he died.

Sample Entry: --at in tarnation?! Where in the heck am I? What about this thing, what's it do? Is this one of them new fancy devices that the wealthy folk use? [ he looks extremely troubled by this... ] Oh no, what if someone lost this darn ol' thing? How am I ever gonna get it back to 'em? If anyone's in there, what do ya think I should be fixin' to do with it?

[ he'll be turning it over and looking at it every which way, so the camera is practically freaking out on whoever's watching. ] It doesn't look very useful, if yer itchin' fer my opinion.

[ and then he'll cough and pretend he never said that with all of the poise of a righteous young man. ]

This place ain't safe at all! There's a thievin' rascal out there, stealin' these expensive thingamabobbers! [ then, in a fit of justice, he holds his hand up and passionately shouts: ]

Don't you worry yourself none, Miss Haven, I'll see to it that you get your belongin's back!

[ he totally doesn't think haven is a person, nope. ]
Sample Entry Two: "Five more minutes, Ma..." He doesn't remember falling asleep, but now that he knows it happened, Donnel doesn't want to wake up. Plus, this bed is really comfy, nothing like the beds stuffed with hay back at home.

... Wait, what? Where is he if he's not on his hay-stuffed bed in his hay-smelling room? His eyes fly open so fast that it sort of burns and he gets up with a shout, axe suddenly in hand with expertise only an experienced fighter could have. Once he gets a good look around, though, he realizes that this place... probably isn't all that dangerous - just really creepy. He regains his posture and fixes the pot on his head in an attempt to redeem himself.

"I reckon I ain't never been to a place like this 'fore..." Not only does he not remember falling asleep last night, he doesn't ever remember coming here. He went straight home to his Ma.

Didn't he?

This doesn't look like his village at all... or like Ylisse, or Plegia, or Valm, or anywhere he's been, now that he thinks about it. And he's been to practically all of the places a small-town farm boy like him could ever dream to go. So where the heck is he?

Character Name: Allen Walker
Canon: D.Gray-Man
Canon Point: Chapter 186
Background/History: DGM Wikia
Personality:

Allen Walker... is like an onion.

A warrior gentleman that isn't that much of a gentleman of a jesusy onion. Right down to his inexplicable ability to make people cry over him.

But being a poster boy for traumatic, horrific, and just downright strange childhood backstories with a million and one random experiences, he's multifaceted and layered and almost a grab-bag of nuances and quirks because of it. And he can moodswitch on a dime between them as well. But to most people... he's gentle and kind, a polite sort of person who prides himself on being a British gentleman and taking the moral high ground (or pretending to). Very well but also plainly spoken, speaking properly and gently but without fancy language (he is technically uneducated, just very street smart), but loosening up over time more around the people he's close to and comfortable with (and as he grows up). A little derpy, a little spacey on the important things sometimes, someones who puts on a smile and likes to perform as a clown for children. Someone who likes to make people smile.

In day to day life and more normal things, at least. Not life when all the cards are down and it's do or die, which is when he really shines.

Because it's a little fake, too. And situational.   And not how he is all the time; only what he tries to be until something else pushes him (and try hard he does; much of it is from trying to emulate his dead father; wearing the "mask of Mana"). But he was a rough around the edges angry brat with a heart of gold before Mana, and at his core he still is. He's incredibly passionate about the things and people he cares about, driven and unstoppable purely from feeling and caring that strongly, and is an unapologetic proponent of the human condition. Even if he speaks at times of how he's no longer human, being an Exorcist with an Innocence like his, a weapon born to save the world, there is nothing more dear to him than humanity; the strength to which people feel and care for each other. Even the akuma, who he loves and lived solely for until he realized how dear the Order had become to him—even them, he was moved by their sadness, by wanting to erase that sadness. And this passion blows his polite persona out of the water sometimes, because when it's about something important like that he becomes emotional and strong from his emotions. His caring of others is what will always trump everything else, and he becomes unflinching and opinionated over it. So he is still gentle and kind, but he is incredibly strong at the same time because of it.

Because he's driven, and that's the core of Allen Walker. Nay, where his name comes from even. "Don't stop, keep walking"—even if he's made a lot of promises, even if there are many things he fights for and believes in (akuma, humans, his home and family), that is the one that started and guides them all. So much so that even if the entire world seems to be telling him he can no longer be what he needs to be (an Exorcist), if it feels like it's telling him to "stop" and just be comfortable—he won't. He'll beat himself bloody ala unstoppable force meets immovable object until he finds a way to keep going and continue being true to himself, his resolve, and his promises. It also means that even if he's utterly reckless and throws himself in harm's way constantly, he always means to survive and live, because to Allen Walker it's not about wanting to die for someone, but to live for them. To protect them, to save them. "I want to live... because I found what was important to me. That's right... because I want to protect both humans and akuma."

That said, if he were ever put in an impossible situation where it was his life or another's, he'd sacrifice himself in an instant. (Putting his claw to his throat and threatening to destroy his body if that would keep him from destroying Tokusa.) And even for being someone who is a warrior, a living weapon—he's also never taken a life because of how Innocence and exorcism and his weapon works. The one time he thought he murdered someone, it nearly broke him. It isn't to say he wouldn't kill to protect someone more innocent, to protect his friends—he told Tyki he was braced to kill him if he had to and he was—but it would take a terrible toll on him and he would do everything he can to change the game and avoid it.

And it makes him a terribly lonely, terribly sad character as well. He shoulders all burdens himself until it's the weight of the world itself and it's very hard for him to share that with others, not wanting to put that burden (and all the guilt he totes around) on them as well. And he covers it up with smiles; sad, sweet smiles he's infamous for and his friends have said they hate him for. Even the things he finds most precious in life, that he wants so badly if he were to be selfish—the love of family and home—he ultimately leaves them to set off on his own, so that the only one who has to deal with his problems (be endangered by his problems) is himself, not the people he loves.

But even with all that, he's not a saint. A martyr sometimes, eloquent  in the most plainspoken of ways, sweet and caring, but not a saint. In fact, he's an outright sassy brat sometimes as well. As much as he somtimes  hangs onto a lofty notion of being the more mature even if usually the youngest, of being a gentleman (and manners are selectively important to him), he can be incredibly immature when needled just right or set off by certain people (coughKandacough). And it comes from that emotional, impulsive, extremely shounen core that feels everything at 210% and gets really rankled when his buttons are pushed. Even if he does try to gloss it over and be a gentleman. Because he is also a scrappy, snarky, resilient little dick when the mood suits him that is absolutely not above fighting dirty if it gets him the upper hand because excuse you, he's not that dumb.

But the caveat is he is never, ever cruel. And he tends to only dish that sort of thing out when someone really deserves it because he has an incredibly strong personal sense of what's right, wrong, and fair. It doesn't mean he doesn't still care about them, too. Even in teaching Tyki and his friends a lesson when they tried to cheat Krory at poker by turning it around and robbing them blind—after making sure they learned their lesson he gave them their belongings back so everyone kept what was theirs/they didn't freeze.

And even when it's serious, even when he hates someone and he is capable of hate, even if they're his enemy—he will try to find a way to save the humanity in them even then. Even while also being braced to fight them if he has to to his dying breath to protect others, just like he did with Tyki, who Allen is both fond of (playing poker as humans together) and hates (everything he did to Suman, everything he did to Allen). Because he'll exhaust all options and risk his own life and limbs until he finds a way that lets him save everyone he can, even if he knows just how bad the odds are against him. The only exception is the Earl whom he hates and wants to destroy and there isn't an ounce of desire to save him—but it's also only because he's the only thing Allen sees as entirely inhuman, something without humanity. A boogieman; a devil. If he were to see the more human side of the Earl (having Mana's form notwithstanding even oh god his mind would crack), or anything that makes that emotional, humanity-loving core of his sympathize with him—that would throw that currently blind black and white view he has on even the Earl into question. Even if all that caring, all the desire to save—it doesn't make him flinch (anymore) from standing and fighting too.

And so: onion. In that every time you blink it seems like you're seeing another layer, another facet, but the more you peel those layers away, the more obvious it becomes how strong and clear the core of him is, blinding and burning from the sheer strength to which his feelings shine that it is. And that's the part that never changes; the strength and conviction, the caring and wanting to save everyone he possibly can, not because he has noble reasons to, but simply because he wants to and can't help it.

Even if dumb analogies aside (and it's pretty dumb), he's also just a poor kid that constantly screws up even if he means well and consistently has the most hilariously worst luck known to man.

Allen Walker | D.Gray-Man | reserved 2/3

[personal profile] likethelight 2013-10-02 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Abilities/Powers:

Innocence
Allen is an Exorcist, which means he's a host that was chosen by a "crystal of god" (actual religious ties to the Judeo-Christian God? debatable/probably not) commonly called "Innocence", a weapon of a light/holy nature that exists to directly counter a darker power called "Dark Matter". His is a parasitic type dubbed "Crown Clown" that he was born with, meaning his body acts as the instrument that shapes the Innocence. He is a living weapon because of it, as it takes the form of his left arm and has merged completely with his DNA, bonding with his soul and his heart. It leaves his left arm looking distinctly inhuman, even when it's inactive. The only way to separate him from it is to cut his arm off entirely, and even that didn't work the last time someone tried. It can also be sealed with ofuda so that he's unable to move or activate it.

Innocence is a weapon that must be activated before it can be spiritually sensed or used beyond being inherently tough, its natural properties versus Dark Matter, and in Allen's case—making his left arm exceptionally strong and nimble (he's ambidextrous). Once activated, its power comes from how well it synchronizes with the host—with their heart and resolve, given it's tied to their emotions. Allen has broken 100% synchronization, making him a "critical point breaker" and technically a candidate for General of the Black Order if he weren't suspected of being a traitor and a Noah. This means he can transform his left arm into two forms, each with various abilities. The lower synchronization form of a claw, and the higher synchronization form of a giant exorcising broadsword (which requires him literally ripping his entire arm off to transform it into the sword). In either form he also has a white cloak that serves as a living body armor as well. The weapon is sentient to a degree, and he can use it (or it can use him) to push his body to move when he's too broken to do so on his own anymore. In general, the claw form of his hand has raw offensive power that can harm anything while the sword cannot harm humans/normal creatures at all.
Sword of Exorcism
The (current) ultimate form of his Innocence that mirrors Allen's own heart—the sword doesn't harm humans or flesh directly, but harms only that which is "evil", meaning he can selectively cut the darkness in a person while leaving the human themselves alive. It can exorcise, very generically even as Innocence otherwise generally doesn't, given he was confident if Lavi was possessed it would have freed him (but Lavi was not, Lavi was only Lavi, so it did nothing). It does have a corporeal form and mass to it as he can use it as a shield against attacks, but it cannot ever cut or harm normal humans and will pass right through them.

That said, as Allen himself is not human, but is also a Noah, it harms him as well and will cut part of him.

When the sword is active Allen can also use an ability called "Death Orbs" which is a series of massive explosions all around him, but this appears incredibly taxing.

Cross Grave
When invoking his Innnocence as a claw, he can use this ability either defensively or offensively. Defensively he can draw a cross in the air to form a shield, and offensively it serves to crucify and exorcise akuma by drawing the cross on them. It's a very powerful weapon offensively, but only in the sense of exorcism against creatures that can be purged by abilities that put them at peace. To an akuma it "feels good", presumably because of bringing that sense of salvation.

Crown Edge
Another ability with the claw invocation of his hand, he can fling crowns (yes... crowns...) from the talons of his hand like many, many rings. Explosive and ranged.

Edge End
Empowers a swipe from his left hand with a large amount of raw holy/light energy.

Crown Belt/the cloak
Possible in any invocation, it's an extension of the white cloak form and body armor of his Innocence. He can use it to wrap himself in ribbons to force his body to move, rappel around and push himself off the ground like the entire cloak is a living object, or use it to reach out and bind another person or object. It manifests as white ribbons he lash out with from his right wrist. Additionally, at any time he can harden the cloak and contort it to make spikes, a shield, webbing, or any number of forms he can imagine it taking. It can be as soft as down or as hard as his claw depending on his will.

The downside of his Innocence and the cost is that all of this requires a tremendous amount of energy. Life-force and caloric. He has to consume ridiculous amounts of food to sustain his invocations or even just passively given that it is a parasite, and the more he uses it the more it shortens his lifespan. And in Haven, food is probably going to be a much more pressing issue relating to that. (Can he become faint from overusing his abilities and not eating enough? Yes. Yes he can. It takes a lot because his stamina is shounen protagonist levels of ridiculous, but it's possible.) He'll have to pay for using his Innocence a lot more than he was and be worn out more easily if food's in short supply.

Cursed left eye
Allen's left eye is cursed so that he sees the corrupted/despairing souls that power metal/Dark Matter weapons called akuma (not actually demons). While this is extremely canon specific and it's not implied that he can see ghosts or anything else of that sort, demonic energy/cells or corrupted souls could theoretically be a parallel. Humans that are half-akuma in canon don't register as anything strange to Allen until they activate the weapons/cells in them that are akuma in nature, and then he just sees a vague dark aura around them. This is the most likely panfandom sight he would have, being sensitive to seeing dark auras and having a sort of sixth sense more about it if something is clearly darker/demonic/similar to akuma. Ghosts he could probably have a sixth sense about as well, but no actual additional sight. He's just a cheat like that.

It's also probable that it serves as a seal of sorts on the Noah memory within him, but the abilities of his eye can be sealed as well through sorcery.

The 14th/Noah Memory
Just because he wasn't a complicated special snowflake enough already, in addition to being an Exorcist, Allen is also (somehow) paradoxically the Fourteenth Noah, two things that should be mutually exclusive but somehow aren't. The memory is just beginning to awaken in him though, and while he's been told it will one day erode his personality and all that he is away until he is no longer Allen but the Fourteenth, it's something Allen stands adamantly against (even if that's more just a show of willpower). It's a darker, extremely powerful entity (and separate person, really) that resides in his head that, for the moment, just haunts him through appearing as a shadow specter in reflections. Injuries from Innocence though, or in theory agitating his scars and injuries from that, or other (potentially) holy attacks—that will cause the awakening to progress. For his time in Haven (because canon has not fully explained the 14th, Nea, and the entire mess well at all yet or what Noah abilities he would have beyond familial telepathy), it'll stay dormant and just an annoying shadow only Allen can see unless I get him injured in such a way. Or unless someone tries to probe his mind or somehow enter his dreams. (I'm hesitant to do much until canon actually addresses it, though.)

The memory comes with the ability of being a/the "Musician". This means he's also able to control and pilot an interdimensional travelcube of a city called Noah's Ark via uncannily being able to play the piano and, more importantly, a certain melody. But given that would allow him to escape any game he was placed in he won't be able to summon the Ark at all. He will still have the unaccounted for knack of being able to play (at least that one piece) on the piano. Just to no effect beyond sounding heartbreaking.

Physical Abiltiies
Beyond his supernatural ones, Allen is essentially a hand-to-hand combat child soldier with a hard-knock life that grew up having to fend for himself. And it shows. He's wiry and slender but extremely strong and can take sometimes incredible abuse and injury before succumbing (he spends half the series being walled and walled pretty bad). His stamina, even with a taxing weapon like parasitic Innocence, is almost inhuman in that he can fight and be on his feet for sometimes days at a time without rest.

Additionally, he grew up in a circus and has a ridiculous degree of haphazard grace, getting him called a "nimble pest" because of the acrobatics that sometimes get thrown into how he fights. His left hand especially he is incredibly dexterous with as well. With his reflexes he can catch (large, akuma blood) bullets even with his hand.

Background/History: Overview, Plot / History

[personal profile] tobearchildren 2013-10-03 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Miroku is a shameless pervert. However, even he knows when to do it appropriately. For example, when royalty is present, or he is seriously trying to console Sango. Often he refrains from such urges. When he is acting on his perversion, Miroku will often either grope the woman from behind, or ask her to bear his child. If it's not one of the two, it's flattery and comforting/pleasing (in a way.) Usually this goes disturbed with Sango's interference, but even without her, most women tend to decline him. Miroku will at times try to play himself off as innocent or oblivious; such as asking ridiculous questions about his perversions or actions. He is not above trying to lie his way out of being lecherous if opportunity presents itself.

When lodging, if Miroku gets stuck in a room with only men instead of women he becomes pathetic. He will moan, groan, sigh, and sulk. Miroku is that infatuated with women that he is miserable around just guys. Miroku will easily jump to his feet to tend to a woman in any way possible. There does seem to be some boundaries with this though. He is rather bias if they aren't beautiful or if they're old. Also, after spending so much time with Sango, he is not as gun-ho as he use to be about bearing children with random women. If he can help it, Miroku will avoid fighting women when possible. His womanizing ways has left him a little soft for them. It is shown, that he will strike when necessary. For example, during the part when the village of demon women was possessed by a salamander demon, Miroku applied an exorcism sutra to their abdomen and struck them in that spot to rid them of their possession.

Miroku is the kind of guy that can casually mention the death or someone dying. Perhaps it’s because of his time, death comes so naturally and often. Either way he calmly mentioned InuYasha's potential death without so much as sounding broken about it. (If InuYasha were honestly in danger, and Miroku believed this, he would take it much harder.) This is continually shown as the series progresses as he admits and figures out the death of random by-standards.
Just because he's monk, doesn't mean he's necessarily detached from life like some seem to think. (Relating under Buddhism.) If he believes his friends are truly in danger, Miroku will go out of his way to protect them and see to it that they survive. He is especially fond of Sango. He even becomes distressed when he's under the impression Sango leaves or departs on his account. You could even say that he becomes psychotically angry when someone intentionally seeks to harm her. Miroku would kill them without a moment’s hesitation if it means he can save her. Likewise, he is willing to throw his life away to save her. Miroku is not only self-sacrificing to just her alone, but for everyone else in InuYasha's gang as well. Along with Mushin (his adoptive Guardian) and Hachi (his partner in crime) they hold a very special place in his heart.

Given his time, Miroku is a lying con artist. He has become very good at lying and manipulating people to his will. He will often exorcise demons that do not exist to get food and lodging. At times he'll accept payment or the company of women depending on the situation. This trait is actually very common among priests of his time (minus the womanizing part that is) and so it isn't far-fetched that he acts the way he does to survive.

In battle, Miroku is very level-headed about the situation as opposed to InuYasha who is more impulsive. He is the type to quickly analyze and assess the situation and then determine the right course of action. For example, if it's an 'evil' demon, eliminate it. If it's a 'kind but possessed' demon, exorcise it, or a human, knock him unconscious and so on. Most of the time he wont use of his wind tunnel when saimyosho or miasma are present.

Miroku seems to harbor dark feelings about his curse and his past as a whole. Although, this trait is hard to notice at first glance since Miroku tends to mask his deep-seeded depression. When one see's Miroku, they see a jolly, care-free man with no worry in the world except the want for children. If you try to ask him what's wrong he will deflect away from it by mentioning something else and change the subject. The only people who seem to be aware of this hinted depression are InuYasha and the others. The cause of this depression is mostly his potential death due to his curse. The very curse that claimed both his grandfather and his father, so it comes to no surprise that Miroku himself expects to die unless Naraku is eradicated. During these depressive episodes, Miroku can be found staring at his palm during the night.

Miroku's potential death looms over him every moment of his life. Because of this he still has it in him to continue on until Naraku is defeated. He's very strong willed in a sense that if he has something to live for, he'll do everything in his power to make it so. This exterior seems to falter when presented with a difficult challenge. Because of Miroku's life lingering on the fence, he easily becomes careless. In situations such as a desperate one. The use of his wind tunnel is the first thing that comes to mind, and nothing else.

Despite his lecherous ways, Miroku is quite intelligent. He holds knowledge of many different demons, Buddhist teachings, and history. Often Miroku is shown educating the group of things they were unaware of. He's probably one of the smartest ones within the group.

Comically, or perhaps even seriously Miroku admits to being a lecher. He knows his horrible womanizing habits all too well. Miroku, however, will take offense if you call him a fake monk. This is brilliantly highlighted when InuYasha calls him a fake lecherous monk, in which Miroku retorts that admits he is a lecher, but how dare InuYasha call him a fake. With this provided example, it is made rather obvious that Miroku takes his occupation very seriously.

Due to life experiences, and the gain of three demonic friends, Miroku has become less discriminant of demons. Granted he was aware not all were bad to begin with, but he's become much more tolerable of them because of his constant exposure to them. During his travels, he has saved many humans and demons alike with his friends. In fact, Miroku is a caring person in general regardless of race, age, sex, and origin. If someone asked him for his help, he would go out of his way to aid them. Sometimes this has caused him casualties, but it's nothing he hasn't recovered from thus far. To be frank, even if he is aware of the imminent danger, he will still help. If he thinks it's too much for him (when not acting on impulse) Miroku will ask for the assistance of his friends so they may vanquish the danger together.
Abilities/Powers:
Spiritual Awareness: Miroku is very spiritually aware. He's almost sensitively aware. For example a demonic aura can slip for just a second, and Miroku would be able to pick up the aura almost immediately. Additionally, if he's been exposed to it long enough or repeatedly, he is able to recognize and tell whose demonic energy it is. This is mostly shown through Naraku and Kagura's demonic aura. His spiritual awareness is so keen, that he is sometimes even able to sense demons before InuYasha can smell them.

Sacred Sutra: Miroku can use his sacred sutra for various tasks. They can do anything from exterminating a demon, to purifying, to removing demonic aura, and even creating a barrier. His versatile use with sutra makes it very easy to dominate in battle assuming the demon's demonic powers aren't stronger than his spiritual powers. He uses them for practically everything within reason.

Shakujou: His Shakujou, another spiritually tuned item of his, its staff is made of steel metal, rather than wood. This makes it more suitable for a weapon rather than just any old staff. Also, unlike most normal shakujou monks have, Miroku's metal finial is as sharp as a blade. They're able to cut through a blade of grass when well maintained. In battle he's uses it for both defense and offense purposes. This holy staff can also exorcise demons. Miroku can allocate his spirit energy into as a type of amplifier and allow him to conjure up a barrier to deflect/ward off attacks.

Wind Tunnel: Next is the wind tunnel he bears on his right hand. It's considered a very effective and deadly attack. Anything caught in its range is consumed into a dark abyss for eternity with no word of what the other side consists of. It's capable of inhaling even the strongest of demons if they are unable to stand ground against its might. It's also used as a threat constantly to waver battles to his advantage if his opponents know about it.

Athletic: While he may not look it, Miroku is rather athletic for his occupation. He can single-handedly fight of his fair share of demons without quickly becoming exhausted. Not just that, but Miroku is also capable of keeping up with InuYasha. (In some belief it’s claimed it's because he places sutra on his feet to give him more speed.) In either case, he is very capable of getting around with or without Kirara and Sango on foot.

Miscellaneous: He has the power of insight and can see through the divine or ominous things that others emit. He can even see someone's time of death in advance.

Sample Entry:
Test Drive, and AU Meme
Sample Entry Two:
Miroku was very wary of his situation. Where this was, it definitely wasn't Japan anymore, and he wasn't sure if he could place it from Kagome's era because he's never been there. His group of friends he was once traveling with were anywhere except for where he was.

"It appears I'm to fend for myself."

Unless he were, by some chance, able to unite with his comrades, but he couldn't sense Kagome's spiritual presence or InuYasha's demonic energy. The next approach would be to find out who was behind this and see to it that his friends are unharmed. He trailed back to the most recent memories he had before he woke here. They had just mended Sango's hiraikotsu and he consumed the poison.

The monk glanced over Haven, surveying the different features of this...town.

"There is one thing I should consider."

In his hand was the strange thing he woke up with. It was a beaten phone, but no thing existed in his era. Miroku cautiously pressed the button, and when nothing happened he continued to fiddle with it. With enough messing around, he was able to access the networking function of the phone. On it, were live feeds being made back and forth. Whether they were friend of foe, he was unable to tell. With some more button pressing, he was slowly picking up the function of whatever it was this was. Eventually Miroku was able to access the contact list. On it were many names he didn't recognize. There wasn't a single name that struck familiar, but what did it mean?

"Perhaps I should seek assistance with a local." It was risk he needed to take. With him being this far out of his element, his chance of survival was slim as it was.

Keith Anyan | Toward the Terra | re-app

Other Characters Played: Ganymede | Olympos

Character Name: Keith Anyan
Canon: Toward the Terra (2007 anime series)
Canon Point: end of episode 9
Background/History: Toward the Terra doesn't have a wiki or any really comprehensive online information so I wrote my own history. Again. Because obscure canons.

Personality: Keith Anyan is confused - he is a well-educated and intelligent child learning to navigate the complexities of social interaction, trying to find a way to integrate his own personality with the destiny that he is meant to pursue and to understand the way the people around him function. A leader by nature, he is struggling to find the balance between who and what he is.

Keith was created to be an intelligent leader that humans can put their trust in, and he certainly has proven himself in these areas. He is very smart, excelling in both classwork and practical application of what he's learned, and he has the confidence in his capabilities and knowledge to take the lead in stressful situations. Everything about Keith is efficient. He performs well, makes well-informed decisions quickly, and has the capacity to follow through on the decisions he's made. Adaptable, he reads new situations quickly and accurately, which allows him to make logical decisions that he handles with a detached seriousness that generally leads to success. He rarely makes mistakes when it comes to classwork, and is admired by his teachers and peers for his intelligence and skill. Even when teased because of how strangely serious he is and how obvious it is that he processes things differently from those around him, Keith is always quick to respond with something sharp and witty that makes it clear that he may be different, but he is superior.

Keith's self-confidence may, in some ways, be his greatest flaw. He is generally admired by peers and, more importantly, his teachers and the computer system that runs E-1077. Rarely receiving negative feedback aside from Shiroe, Keith operates in his own little world in which he is always right, and even when he questions himself, he is told that what he decides is for the best. He is spoiled in the worst way possible, and, believing himself intelligent and correct enough to know what's best, he has become a bit gullible, never questioning whether the system that raised him is operating for what is best. In fact, he frequently crushes his own will under that of Mother Eliza, who leads him towards decisions and then rewards him for doing as she asks. Without this system of leadership in place, without the soothing reassurance and encouragement to abandon his doubts, Keith will likely be consumed by them, questioning everything and seeking answers in other places, while remaining unwilling to take those answers at first, since they are not from the source he's used to.

Which leads to the main crux of Keith's personality. For all that he projects a composed, cold persona, to the point that he is frequently referred to as a robot or automaton, he is still a human being, and however much he might prefer not to have emotions, they do still exist in him. Keith is aware, on a very deep level, that he is not the same as the people around him, and this is something that troubles him deeply. While he has education, understanding, and maturity even beyond the what he should as the 18-year-old boy he appears to be, emotionally and socially he is heavily stunted. He doesn't understand the emotions of others, and frequently misses subtle social cues. He processes the world around him in a logical way, and frequently becomes confused and disoriented when things like social interactions or the emotional responses of people to the things he says or does don't conform to that logical parsing. He is intelligent enough to fake it, but more often than not his cold composure and witty comebacks are more a mask or shield to hide his confusion behind.

Alienated from the rest of humanity, then, Keith is susceptible to suggestion, confused, and almost constantly overwhelmed when faced with anything to do with emotions, or anything that contradicts what he's been told. Constantly put off-guard by his own feelings, and those of the people around him, he is a boy who could easily veer off-course when out from under the thumb of Mother Eliza.

Abilities/Powers:
Keith is a talented student with a high level of general education, and a specialty in subjects related to piloting, living and working in space, and leadership and command. He is shown to be capable of high level first aid including use of syringes and various types of medication including sedatives and other medicines for treatment of injury.

Keith also has a sort of inborn resistance to mental interference, including mind reading and having his mental processes hijacked by psychics. He isn't completely immune, in that he certainly feels and is aware of the fact that he's being probed or affected, and he is capable of succumbing to high-intensity or artificially enhanced levels of mental interference. While he does eventually become completely closed off to unenhanced psychics, he did require an extensive amount of training in mental shielding to reach that level. However, a good deal of his resistance is inborn, as he is shown to be exempt from, without effort on his part, two separate attempts at having his mind hijacked by one of the more powerful psionics in the series.

Items/Weapons: a first aid kit with the typical items as well as several syringes of medication for common illnesses, a few vials of sedative, and painkillers; a blue 'weeping mouse' stuffed animal

Sample Entry:

[Keith's face is expressionless, serious, when he engages the video feed - he might be new to this place, but he looks completely calm, composed, and focused. His mouth is set in a a straight line, but he doesn't look angry. He exhales softly, his eyes closing for a moment, the first sign of any kind of humanity, and then clears his throat.]

My name is Keith Anyan. I've arrived very recently and I require information, or at least the methods of gathering this information myself.

[He exhales.]

I imagine whether or not we can leave easily has been addressed by the other occupants, but I'd like to ask what's been done, to this point, to accomplish that, and whether any headway at all has been made.

[A pause.]

Also, if anyone here has heard from someone by the name of Sam Houston, I would like to know. I don't imagine he'd be here, but the mechanics of this place are still unfamiliar, so there is a possibility.

(I'll also throw in a link to Keith and Shiroe on the train to the afterlife meme if you'd like to see how he has a mental breakdown!)

Sample Entry Two:

Keith's eyes flicked open at the sound of the alarm clock, a shrill buzzing he was unaccustomed to, and immediately he was on edge, every sense at alert. He took stock of the room around him, unfamiliar and simple, plain, very different from the rooms he was used to waking up in - his own, dark and comfortable with the soothing movement of fish, or the bed with Mother Eliza, bright and soothing. This room was utilitarian, just as Shiroe had accused his room of being.

Shiroe.

Abruptly, everything that had happened before he woke up here came tumbling back into his mind, and his chest rose and fell heavily. His cheek still felt tight with the residue of drying tears, and he lifted his hand as he sat up, pale eyes flicking around the room suspiciously as he took stock of it, tried to work out where he was and why he might have been moved. Why he'd fallen asleep, when he'd been piloting a ship, when there had been too many things to do on the station, to return it to normal, to see what the aftermath of that attack would be. It still eluded him why he was the only one to keep his memories of those attacks, why he was the only one unaffected, his differentness made obvious, unsettling - and yet he wouldn't have chosen to find his memories altered as those of the people around him had been.

But Shiroe.

He tried to push the thought of the boy's helpless babbling out of his mind, tried not to think about the thing he had just done, his heart racing and breath too fast, too shallow as he tried to process it. He needed a visit with Mother Eliza, he needed to focus on understanding where he was and how to get out, so he could return to the place he'd come from, and sort this out. He closed his eyes for a moment, trying to put those babbles out of his mind, that moment in which his heart had stopped as he was asked to shoot the boy down, the moment in which he had chosen to follow that order, out of his mind. It was immaterial at the moment, there was no purpose, his goal had changed.

He had to focus. It was difficult, but he opened his eyes, turned his head to take in a sweeping look at the space around him. It wasn't time to be distracted by emotions, by whether or not he should have them. No. Now was a time for action.

Turning, he pulled himself out of the bed, smoothed his hands down the front of his uniform, and walked briskly toward the door.

[personal profile] memorability 2013-10-05 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
"But I'm nothing more than a puppet—something that somebody created."

The most important thing to note about Xion is her existence — she's not normal, in any sense, and being the way she is causes her a lot of internal struggles. Once she knows who she is, she becomes rather lost, and she's tasked with the decision of what to do with herself, and it's nothing short of a daunting task. It affects her deeply and she becomes caught in a sort of downward spiral, between being lost with herself, and unsure of what to do about it.

She focuses a lot on doing what she believes is right, and once she has her mind set on something, she carries it through to the end. She'll do whatever it takes, to the point of ignoring her own desires in favor of following through with her beliefs. And despite the importance of her friends, she'll still put her goals above even their feelings. Because of this, she comes off as rather stubborn, tending to argue her side often and not back down. When Axel comes to retrieve her, he complains about how "everybody thinks they're right" and how they're going to destroy her, and Xion replies with "this is right", ready to deal with what she already knows will happen. Her decision to be destroyed is absolutely right in her mind, and she's accepted that. And she even goes on to fight him for her freedom to do what she's chosen to do, as much as it hurts.

"I'm sorry, but... I can't go with you. It's my friends—they need me. And I need them, too."

Her friends create part of her internal struggle with deciding what to do with herself. She wants nothing more than to remain with them, but she comes to realize she can't, and accepts the fact that she has to disappear and return to Sora. Although, she starts out being hesitant with this resolve, and has trouble truly separating herself from them in the beginning. When she's first running away, she still can't stop herself from looking on at them from a distance, wanting so badly to return. And when she's discussing her situation with Riku (that she needs to be destroyed so Sora can wake up), telling him she can't go with him because of her friends is her initial response to the situation. She knows her friends need her, and she doesn't want to worry or upset them. Of course, after thinking on it longer, she makes the decision to disappear.

She can be very defensive and easily angered when it comes to her abilities and choices — she's ... fragile, generally. Along with defending her choices for as long as she needs to (even against the most important people to her), she'll become visibly upset and angered when her abilities are criticized. When Riku tells her her keyblade is a sham, she quickly and angrily argues back, telling him it's not and that he's the sham. And this scene sits in her mind for a while even after it's already happened.

"Because I'm useless?"

She has some terrible self esteem issues in general, actually. Thanks to the less than ideal way she's treated and spoken about by some of the other Organization members, especially Saix, in combination with what she knows about herself, she tends to think of herself badly and put herself last. She'll have small outbursts, such as when she immediately asks Riku if he hates her for keeping his friend from him, and she'll go so far as to even believe she's useless at times (and voice this belief, because she believes it's what others truly think). Her friends can't even help her much with this, as happy as it makes her to be around them. They're sort of like a light in the darkness for her, but she tends to think to herself about how she's treated and what she needs to do, and she can be very independent when she acts on things. That's not to say she doesn't need guidance or help from others, too, sometimes.

Being a member of the Organization, and only really alive for a short period of time, she's not very knowledgeable about a lot of things, and often needs to ask others for help when it comes to things she doesn't understand or know about. She can be curious because of this, and will go out of her way to seek information about things that are important to her (such as, of course, her own existence). Despite all this, she can be rather mature.

She's a quiet, shy girl, and she only really speaks when it's necessary. Her friends are really the only people she can speak to at length with and open up to, and the only other times other than them that she's seen talking more than usual is when it's with Riku or Namine, and both of those people she has her reasons with (they're both important for her to achieve her goal and get to know what's happening a little more). But most of the time, she doesn't speak much — she acts on her own a lot, quietly.

But her short life isn't all bad things — like stated before, her friends are like her light in the dark, and they're really the only enjoyable experiences she even has. She smiles when she's with them, and cherishes her time with them more than anything else. She places a good amount of trust in them, and the difficulty she has with leaving them in order to do what's right to her says a lot about how much she cares about them. She does what she can for her friends, trying her best to keep them from any sort of pain, though of course there's only so far she can go with that considering her desire to do what's right and disappear. But in the end, she needs her friends as much as they need her, and even though they won't remember her, she finds some sort of solace in the fact that their memories will still live on in Sora.

If there's anything she can't bear to lose, it's her friends and the memories she has with them.

In short, she's quite the sad girl with some pretty intense existence issues going on and low self esteem to go with it. She has a strong sense of justice and a great deal of belief in her choices. She's rather independent-minded, trying her best to deal with and take care of her issues on her own, and because of the things she does to deal with everything, she tends to get into quite a bit of mischief. But she always keeps her friends in her mind, and no matter what happens to her, they'll remain there.

Character Name: Makoto Nanaya
Canon: BlazBlue
Canon Point: Post-Continuum Shift EXTEND

Background/History: Makoto on the BlazBlue Wiki

Personality: First and foremost, Makoto is a beastkin. Beastkin aren't the most liked of all the species back home, so she has been subject to much teasing and harassment because of it. It most certainly bothers her when people make fun of her for what she is, but because of Noel and Tsubaki, she doesn't mind as much anymore. She flaunts what she is proudly, and she is nowhere near ashamed of it. She even dresses all skimpy-like with no regrets. However, she still doesn't like being made fun of for it, so it's a bit of a soft spot. It only makes her stronger, though.

Makoto is a bit of a goof, constantly acting silly and over-dramatic around her friends, and even making the simplest of things sound hundreds of times more epic (legendary chocolate, anyone?). She loves all of her friends, but most definitely loves Noel and Tsubaki the most. She would do anything to keep them safe, even if it meant attacking an old friend like Carl. She has even made an idle threat about protecting Noel to Iron Tager, who makes a T-Rex simply look large. She can be very friendly with people, and loves to be social and outgoing with her friends whenever she can. Because of that, Makoto really wishes that things back home could be like they used to be; simple and fun. Everything got so complicated back home, and Makoto abhors it, and she wants to work towards that.

Despite being shown as being a complete goof who makes a complete mess of her living quarters with a disinterest in learning much back in the Academy, Makoto is surprisingly perceptive and intelligent -- and definitely knows when to get completely serious. There's no other way she would be an officer in the Intelligence Department of the Novus Orbis Librarium. She knows much more than she lets on to people, and only gives grains of salt to people about her motives. Those motives happen to be more in sync with Sector Seven than with the NOL, which is a world without magic. Her primary example of it all was bringing a creature back to life with magic, even if it didn't want to come back to life. It simply bothers her. That's why she works as a spy for Sector Seven within the NOL.

She doesn't enjoy fighting, or at least fighting people that she knows or has known well in the past, but she will do it without questions if someone she cares about is in trouble, such as the case as attacking Carl to protect Tsubaki. You simply just don't mess with her close friends or face her fury. Tsubaki and Noel are like family to her. She even cares enough about Jin to tend to his wounds nonstop until he woke up, and try to bring him back to rest after he left. Like it was mentioned before, Makoto just wants things to be like they used to be. It's this pure willpower and love for her friends that even allow her to retain her identity when her soul is sucked into the Cauldron, a place where her soul should have disappeared and killed her. That love for her friends and those she truly cares for is more than enough to keep her alive and even end up returning her back to her world.

She also believes that people and other living things should be helped a little bit, just enough that it can go off and live its own life for itself. That way they don't become dependent on someone's help, and a helping hand is always a nice thing to give someone in need. Her belief of this comes from personal experience with the prejudice she experienced throughout her life, and how Noel and Tsubaki stood up for her and gave her that helping hand that let her squeeze out the poison from the discrimination, and live her own life.

Makoto also has a huge soft spot for cute things, such as Carl. She thinks Carl is adorable, and would instantly just grab him and hug him for quite awhile on sight. In fact, she probably treats cute things worse than Noel when she sees them. Not only that, but Makoto gets excited over the smallest of things sometimes, such as chocolate. She also loves all-you-can-eat buffets and chestnut parfaits, and playing lacrosse is a hobby of hers. Makoto is also apparently a fan of things such as mecha and video games.

Abilities/Powers: Makoto is a Beastkin, which means that by default she lives a very long life and has animal traits that come up like natural reflexes and answers (in this case, like a squirrel). Thanks to her lineage of being one, she has incredibly monstrous strength and is more than capable of punching a crater in the ground with one swift attack, even without a weapon. She is fast enough to separate into after-images that go in separate directions in the middle of a battle (up to two at the same time as her), and can punch dozens of times in quick succession which makes it seem like she has multiple arms. In other words, she's athletic and strong, and more than capable enough to handle herself in a fight with her natural strength.

But that isn't what she uses, most of the time. She has a weapon to help out.

She fights using hand-to-hand combat mixed with her unnamed tonfas, which are actually a type of Ars Armagus (in other words, a magical device that helps those who can not use magic use it) that serve to increase and amplify her combat prowess and strength. Those tonfas are capable of feats that Makoto could not accomplish without them, allowing her to emit small ball-projectiles that she can punch at people, and project giant images of her fists from behind her that are just a solid as the real deal. They also allow her to charge the power of her blows, making them even stronger based on how long she charges each attack, which is a technique known as Impact.

Impact applies to most of her heavy punches and major attacks, adding a layer of power and destruction that wouldn't be found in her normally already beast-like strength. It allows her feats such as the aforementioned giant fist, slamming someone up in the air only to punch them back down with another energy-projected fist, and amplifying her strength enough to send an opponent flying into the sky and through the moon.

And she has enough control over her tail to use it as a weapon. Not that it'll hurt much. The thing is pretty damn fluffy.

Items/Weapons:
Tonfas: Her Ars Armagus and weapon of choice.

Nothing else. There isn't a need for anything else to brought with her to Haven.

Sample Entry: Thread Sample: City of Ariel Test Drive (Safe for Work!)

Sample Entry Two:
The sound of teeth grinding against each other was astounding. It echoed throughout the small, dark room that Makoto found herself in. Her sight locked on her objective, her eyes burned with a passion that no mortal man should have to witness. The determination on her countenance was so fierce that it may as well be the face of a lion cornering its prey. Brow furrowing, she pushed forward. The action was followed by the sound of machinery moving.

"Come on..."

She refused to suffer the same fate that was forced upon her time and time again. There was no way she would resign to losing this challenge. She had to be forceful, and she knew it. It was the only way. The determination on her face refused to falter as she pushed with great force once again. Losing isn't an option. It's never an option. Makoto's suddenly wandered to her friends, and how she would give her life to protect them. Their bonds were that strong. It was that kind of ferocity that made her so strong and so effective at whatever she applied herself to.

"Come on.... Come on, come on, come on! You can do this, Makoto! Go in strong!"

Pushing again, the machine strained for a mere second, and Makoto's face lit up. It was followed by a noise. A noise that Makoto knew all too well. Her fierce expression died out nearly instantaneously, her eyes looking as if they were hollow and full of defeat. She couldn't have... No... It was...

Game Over.

Unbelievable. She let herself get defeated by the game again, her hand limply resting on the joystick as she sighed in defeat. Having the will to win and succeed at any cost was fine and all, but it doesn't come close to actually knowing how to the play the game. With a pout, Makoto gently kicked the machine at the side before reaching into her pocket for more change. Giving up was never her style.

"... Uh oh, I spent my whole paycheck again."

Naoki Kashima (Demi-fiend) | Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne | Reserved | 2/3

[personal profile] masakados 2013-10-07 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: From his introduction, when he’s still a human, Naoki presents himself as easy to boss around. He goes along with what Isamu or Chiaki want him to do, whether it is going to look around the hospital or venturing down into the basement with no real argument. Though Isamu makes it clear he’s foisting the duty off on him, Naoki seems to be a person who is good-natured enough to just go along with it. He’ll also take odd occult magazines from strangers without batting an eye (one of his choices when asked where he’s gotten the magazine is “some guy gave it to me”), which Chiaki rebukes him for. It’s difficult to say it is naivety so much as general lack of suspicion.

This trait of being easily directed and taken advantage of prevails throughout the majority of the game. Hijiri makes use of him and his strength in order to investigate various things around the Vortex World. Isamu later mocks him for having this trait: he calls him too helpful and too gullible. Isamu reveals that Hijiri had been using Naoki all along, which implies that Naoki hadn’t even thought about it before that time. Naoki is inherently trusting of other people and wants to help, which is why he would do what Isamu said, if it meant that he could do something in order to save Hijiri. He also followed Lucifer’s plan in gathering the candelabrum from the Fiends and exploring the Labyrinth of Amala without having a clear idea of what was actually going on—as Beelzebub notes and mocks him for. His strategy is irrational, but he was presumably driven by a need to understand the Vortex World.

What is obvious about him is his constant need to be acting. No matter the things that happen in the ruined world, he has to be doing something. Following the neutral/human route, he is acting on his own (despite being told he isn’t able to make his own Reason) to restore the world back to the way it had been, to a world with no set future. It’s clear that he has an attachment to it and, more than that, a desire for freedom.

Judging by the choices that are able to be made throughout the game, he’s not completely serious all the time. He jokes around, just like any other high-school kid. At one point if Hijiri tries to ask him if he can’t hear him, he goes ahead and says “no, I can’t”, or Naoki will intentionally bait some of the demons whom he comes across. Though he is eager to help others and easily used (without realising it), that doesn’t mean he’s just a doormat.

Another important trait that is referred to throughout the game is how he keeps his human heart. All of the feelings of caring about his friends, about not partaking in the brutal slaughter of the Manikins, his attachment to freedom and his constant denial that he is a demon is part of these. Futomimi says it best: “You would never partake in such a brutal act, would you? Your heart is unlike any demon’s… Is it not?” And it isn’t. He doesn’t glean the same pleasure from killing and throughout the neutral route will constantly reaffirm that he is human.

There’s also no doubt that he is brave, as one has to be when living in the Vortex World. When he meets Aradia, the god who possesses Yuko Takao (his teacher), she asks him if he is afraid of the humiliation, the deceit, the torment or suffering and he’s given the option to say that he is or isn’t. For this route, we will go with that he said he wasn’t afraid. Though he is prone to trusting, he also does not give up so easily. He carries on after the death of all of those humans left in the Vortex World, in order to face Kagutsuchi by himself with just his demons to fight alongside him (and Dante/Raidou). He has both the physical strength and the strength of will.

With the responses that can be chosen for him, it’s evident that he acts in a straightforward and decided way. He admits when he can’t understand one of the others, or tells when he can understand but still can’t agree with what they’re doing (such as in the case of Chiaki) and he apologises to Isamu in one choice. As well as not giving up where it comes to situations, he doesn’t seem eager to give in where his friends are concerned, especially when it comes to their Reasons. Numerous times he chases after rumours to try and find them or tries to convince them to stop what they’re doing.

One of the key mechanics in Nocturne is also the ability to negotiate with demons. It implies that Naoki is quite perceptive and is able to roughly anticipate what certain things will do for certain demons in order to bring them over to his side. He’s not unintelligent despite his gullibility, and he makes a clear effort to understand the Reasons of his friends, though he is such a person that he can’t agree with what they advocate.

Abilities/Powers: By ingesting the various magatama (parasitic entities) that are obtainable throughout the course of the game, Naoki is able to get skills from them as he levels up. As well, depending on which magatama he has ingested, he will have certain strengths and weaknesses. He’ll have the Masakados magatama, which usually voids any and all types of attacks, but any of its effects will be removed so as not to render him invincible.

In the Nocturne universe, he’s considered one of the most powerful beings, as any Reason (to recreate the world) backed by his strength is more or less guaranteed to win. He’s able to fight Kagutsuchi (similar to an avatar of YHVH or god) as well as the generals and powerful demons of Lucifer’s army and Lucifer himself in the path that Naoki doesn’t go on. So needless to say, he’s a very strong force. Being able to sense Fiends and other entities in the game, it can also be assumed that his senses are above a human’s as well.

If his MP runs out during a battle, he can’t use his skills besides physical ones, which slowly drain his HP. He can learn 8 skills in the course of the game, which will be the following upon arriving in Haven:
Tornado: Heavy force damage to random enemies.
Mana Refill: Gradually restores MP with every step taken.
Freikugel: Mega almighty damage to a single enemy.
Gaea Rage: Mega physical damage to all enemies. High critical odds.
Diarahan: Heals HP fully to a single ally.
Fog Breath: Drastically decreases all enemies' Agility.
Pierce: Physical attacks bypass most kinds of protective properties except for Repel.
Hellfire: Medium fire damage to random enemies.

He’s also able to fuse and summon numerous demons. If it’s all right, I’d like for him to be able to summon Samael and Yurlungur.

Oh, and he glows in the dark.

Items/Weapons: Just his Masakados magatama

Kougyoku Ren | Magi : The Labyrinth of Magic | Reserved | 2/3

[personal profile] crownjewel 2013-10-07 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)

Personality: Kougyoku Ren is a complicated kind of girl. Depending on your first interaction with her, you might come away with a host of different impressions. For most, though, she appears to be snobbish and cold from the onset. She was trained to be a proper princess by a very smart man, but he did quite a bit to isolate her from other people, and therefore she is only confident in her ability to fight and be quiet.

Due to being severely neglected through most of her early childhood, as well as being a princess who was born to a prostitute, Kougyoku has been alone for a good portion of her life. Her ability to connect well with people from the onset is very limited because of this. Making friends is very difficult for her, as she scares people off easily with her title or her standoffish outer shell. Her hobbies are mostly things she can do by herself, as well, such as dressing in fancy and beautiful clothing. She is quite lonely because of this, and she only makes a friend after turning 18, while visiting a foreign country and being away from the majority of her attendants. She is very protective of her first friend, but she is also quite proud of him. She doesn’t hesitate to call him by a diminutive and introduce him to her brothers.

Despite being someone who should expect to be treated highly because of her rank, Kougyoku is very much a people pleaser. She finds herself easily involved in relationships where she is the one putting all the effort in and getting little to no emotional support or reaction back, such as with her kingdom’s Magi, Judar. She’s so lonely, however, that she keeps trying and taking any small amount of praise as encouragement, and so she earnestly keeps trying. Her heartfelt attempts to help the man she loves causes her to put his interests and her own morals ahead of political gain, even though they go against what her powerful family and beloved eldest brother would like.

Deep down, she is very innocent and ignorant about the romantic side of things. She understands what sex is and how it works, but sexual innuendos and things like “sexual frustration” are words she doesn’t understand. She is kept sheltered and ignorant in some ways by her manservant, Ka Koubun, who is noted by other characters to “baby her too much”. Her innocence often leads Kougyoku to be extremely emotional, to the point she can seem to be a bit of a crybaby, easily angered and violent, or just plain loud. She’ll even go into battle with a 10 year old boy during a particularly bad moment. It also leads her to falling head over heels for the ladykiller and flirt, King Sinbad. She understands he’ll never love her back, but she can’t help daydreaming about him and wishing for his attention.

While she is decently politically savvy, and understands how to use them to her advantage and to obey those higher than her, Kougyoku is weak at dealing with people. She can talk her way through negotiations in the middle of a rebellion in the kingdom of Balbadd and understand things just fine, but the weight of other people’s expectations and the social pressure causes her to bow out without holding onto her own kingdom’s assets.

Kougyoku is a fierce warrior, and one of the strongest in the world as well, carrying the title of “Dungeon Capturer”. She loves this title, as it is one of the few things she earned with her own hands and it quite good at. It brought her praise from her eldest brother and her country’s Magi, a high-ranking magician that chooses kings, both of whom are quite difficult to please. Fighting at her full strength gives her a heady rush, and she won’t hesitate to use her power as she sees fit. In her introduction, she sees her country’s Magi defeated and laying in a crater made by a great blue monster. She instantly chooses her course of action, and uses her magical metal vessel weapon to destroy it. While in the kingdom of Sindria, she is invited to spar with the king there, and she is shown to get a heady rush when fighting people on her level.

In short, Kougyoku is a girl who feels her emotions very deeply, particularly her loneliness, and what she wants most in the world is a group of loyal friends.

Abilities/Powers: After conquering the dungeon “Vinea”, Kougyoku gained the djinn of that dungeon as an ally. It is a magical being that lives inside of her hairpin, unable to come out or react to anything but Kougyoku’s command for power outside of extremely special circumstance. This hairpin is a weapon known as a “metal vessel”, and it allows Kougyoku to use great amounts of magic without her being a magician herself.

As Vinea is a djinn of water, Kougyoku is able to control water at will. She can gather it from the water vapor in the air, the sea, or any small body of water in between. With it, she can create a magical sword and tornados of water. She can aim those tornados, either around her sword to create more damage or as separate weapons altogether, so she can remain at a distance.
She also has the ability to “wear” her djinn, using an ability called “djinn equip”. With it, the user takes on some physical characteristics of the djinn, and it allows for greater immediate access to the djinn’s power. These powers include flight, an extremely tough body that can take a lot of damage, and their “extreme magic”. Kougyoku’s extreme magic is the ability to call a tidal wave large enough to sink a city and control it, shaping it into a spear or letting it flood whatever is in its path.

To save magoi, the magical energy all people produce that a djinn’s powers use to manifest, a user might choose to forgo full equip and only compress their djinn’s powers in a weapon, which is called “djinn weapon equip”. It allows control over the djinn’s offensive abilities and flight, but it’s less powerful and more limited.

A djinn’s power can also be lent out to the user’s most loyal allies, giving them small amounts of the djinn’s abilities to use in defense of themselves and the original user. This is called a djinn’s “household”, and each member of a household has an ability unique to them. Households can only contain those who go into battle with the original user, and those with strong magical ability are incapable of being part of one. In Kougyoku’s case, she only has one household member, who is not in Haven, and he has been given the ability to heal wounds.

More mundanely, Kougyoku is a trained fencer, and she is quite skilled in swordplay.

Character Name: Danny Fenton.
Canon: Danny Phantom
Canon Point: Close to the end of the second season, halfway though 'Reality Trip'. Specifically, just after his identity is revealed on television but before he discovers that his parents have been kidnapped.
Background/History: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danny_Phantom_(character)
Personality:
Danny has a laid-back and easygoing personality, but can be very sarcastic and cynical at times. He is very stubborn and over protective of his family and friends. Danny has a lame sense of humor, which often manifests itself as corny puns. In public he seems like nothing more than a typically lazy, klutzy and easily bullied teenager. And in a sense, he is still one. He likes to hang out with his friends and listen to popular music. He enjoys bowling and video games. He is bad at math, but loves astronomy. And Danny has all the typical teenage worries about school and family.

But thinking that was all there was to Danny Fenton would be a terrible mistake. Deep inside, Danny has an overdeveloped sense of duty and a streak of responsibility a mile wide. He genuinely wants to do the right thing, and will do so even if it hurts him. As he put it once, 'I can't ignore a cry for help.' This feeling of responsibility and justice has often driven him to help even people who are normally his enemies. He has a habit of blaming himself every time someone gets hurt that he could have saved.

At the same time, his determination to do the right thing has put him in conflict many times with the desire to use his powers for selfish purposes. He has been tempted in the past to play pranks on the school bullies and to get out of trouble with his parents. But every time he has given into this urge it has always come back to hurt him.

More than anything else, Danny has always dreamed of acceptance. That he could tell the world about his secret and he wouldn't have to fear being shipped off to a lab to be experimented on. That people wouldn't automatically assume he has evil intentions every time he meets them. That they could accept that he only wants to help. And that he wouldn't have to face his own parents as enemies half the time. Once, all he ever wanted was to be normal.  He has mostly grown out of that by his canon point,  but he still often wishes that he could just be an ordinary kid without any of his responsibilities.

He would like to believe that the world would accept his ghost side, but he has a hard time believing that the entire world could change their minds about him that quickly. He is just a little too cynical to put too much faith in that. At some level Danny has accepted that he doesn't truly belong to either world. He's too much of a ghost to be human and too much of a human to be a ghost. He will never be just an ordinary kid. And if he isn't okay with it, at least he has come to terms with it.

Living as a supernatural vigilante has left Danny with some lasting personality traits. He is always a little paranoid, always waiting for the next ghost attack or the next ghost-hunter to come after him. He has serious trust issues, as well. The only people he trusts completely are his friends Sam and Tucker, his sister Jazz, and a ghost named Clockwork. He is still wary of adults. He may like some of them, but he never trusts them completely. Perhaps because every new adult he has considered trusting in the past year has ended up betraying him on some level.

Danny's greatest fear is himself. In an adventure with time travel, Danny met a future version of himself that was everything he had never wanted to be. His 'evil jerky future self' (as Danny called him) was a sadistic psychopath who only understood destruction. He had murdered his human half in a way that was 'better left unsaid'. He'd destroyed most of the world simply because he could. He'd murdered an unknown number of humans, destroyed cities, and sadistically mutilated ghosts. When he discovered Danny in the future, he had trapped him there and returned to Danny' present solely to ensure that all of Danny's family and friends died on schedule. Danny is terrified of ever becoming something like that. Worst of all, he could sort of understand some of the decisions that version of him had made, and that scared him. He made a promise to his family never to become that. But hasn't forgotten any of it.

Abilities/Powers:

Danny is half-ghost. An accident in an experimental interdimensional portal fused ectoplasm into his DNA using massive amounts of electricity.

Because of this, he has access to a wide variety of ghost powers.
  • Invisibility
    • He can turn himself completely invisible at will.
  • Intangibility
    • He can walk through any solid material.
  • Ectoplasmic manipulation.
    • Danny can form ectoplasm in his hands. He can fire it as an ectoblast or he can shape it into a shield.
  • Flight
    • He can fly. In fact, when Danny is a ghost he seems to prefer floating to standing or walking on solid surfaces.
  • Overshadowing.
    • Danny can jump into others bodies and take over their minds for a short time.  A strong mind can throw him back out quickly.
  • Ghostly Wail
    • A powerful ability that he hasn't fully learned to control yet. He screams loud enough for the sound waves to have a physical presence. At full strength it is powerful enough to knoeck over buildings and flip cars.  But it also takes almost all of his energy. Once he uses it he is usually forced back to being human and is unable to fight any longer.
  • Duplication
    • To create a full physical copy of himself.  He still hasn't mastered this ability and tends to fail in hilarious ways every time he tries. Such as accidentally giving himself two heads.
Items/Weapons: Sample Entry:
Is a non-working vacation too much to ask for? I mean, come on. One day off. After what happened last week I deserve that.

[A dark-haired teenage boy is scowling unhappily into the camera. He sighs heavily and drags a hand through his hair. Somehow it always ended up like this.]

Okay,so let me just get this straight. I've been kidnapped. Again. Stuck in a creepy looking city that is seriously in need of a little urban renewal.

Could this possibly get any worse?

[He freezes and moans miserably.]

...Oh, great. I think I just jinxed myself.

Dear Mun Post

Sample Entry Two:
The problem with being the half-ghost son of ghost-hunters, Danny thought, was the way he constantly ended up in bizarre situations. Apart from, you know, the whole being hunted by his own parents part. Nothing could ever top the sheer wrongness of listening to your parents discussing the best way to dissect your alter ego. Talk about things that no amount of therapy could ever erase.

Still, the point was, if he hadn't been a ghost and if his parents hadn't been incredibly overenthusiastic ghost-hunters he wouldn't end up in situations like this nearly as often. Case in point, the ridiculously oversized and ominous looking invention he was helping his Dad install on the roof of the Fenton Ghost Assault Vehicle.

"So, uh, Dad, what exactly was it that this did again?"

His Dad puts down the welder and grins broadly at Danny, practically radiating the sense of cheerfully enthusiastic incompetence that had made the Fentons known and dreaded by most of Amity Park. "I'm glad you asked! This, son, is the Fenton Ecto-obliterator! Just wait till you see what this baby can do to that ghost kid! First it will suck him into this box and then the ectolasers fry him until he's nice and toasty! Mmm, toast. Could you toss up the Fenton Ecto-Wrench?"

Pushing down the sense of nausea that particular description had created, Danny fishes through the toolbox and retrieves a completely ordinary wrench with the Fenton logo printed on the handle. The teen rolls his eyes at his parent's obsession with embossing that on everything and hands it up. "And the thing with all the glowing knives you just added?"

"That was the Ghost Ginzu! We don't want ghosts to have any chance to get away. And this way he'll be all sliced and ready for us to study! This time we'll get that ghost boy for sure!"

Danny's face pales at the thought. Why was it that each of his parent's inventions seemed worst than the last? "Right, Dad. You have fun with that. I think I just remembered some home work that I have to do. In my room. Away from here."

Character Name: Leo Baskerville
Canon: Pandora Hearts
Canon Point: Chapter 65, after Jack had taken control of Oz and used his power to stab Leo through the chest, causing him to lose consciousness.
Background/History: Leo's History @ Pandora Hearts Wiki

Personality: Upon first inspection, Leo might seem like a subdued sort of individual. He's outgoing, well-mannered, and honest. More often than not, he appears to be in a good mood, addressing others kindly and speaking in flowery tones. In the right company, he might be just that, if not for a bit quirky; however, those who are more familiar with him know far better than to think such things.

Social activity is hardly a predilection of his, and is handled much more like an obligation than it is for enjoyment purposes; he'd much rather prefer the company of a good book. Reading allows him to forget himself, taking him away to other worlds or leaving him buzzing with new information - a welcome escape from a burdened life, heavy with self-loathing and things he cannot hope to understand. Communication outside of the few that he holds dear is made mostly by necessity, such as when he needed to apologize for his master's shortcomings, or on his behalf in some sense.

When he does speak, regardless of to whom, it is honest... but often so much so, that it's awkward and painfully to the point. Pleasant demeanor and smiles could only do so much to pad what he says, however, be it intentional or not. It's a flaw that he's particularly unaware of, as when he does mean to be insulting, it's incredibly and blatantly caustic - although, still delivered with a smile. Unless he is genuinely upset, that is.

In the event that he should become unsettled, it often results in a violent outburst. If a person that he isn't familiar with attempts to touch him, he might lash out and resume some space between them, for example; however, there have been far more extreme circumstances in which he has become violent when pushed too far, including nearly killing a man - and he would have, too, had he not been stopped. He is the sort that does things at his own pace, and dislikes to move beyond his area of comfort.

One of his most sensitive points was being forced to see the world around him. Ever since he could remember, he could see golden lights everywhere about him that no one else could. It is questionable whether his mother did it to protect Leo, or to prevent unwanted attention, but she had him grow out his hair to cover his face. It became his veil of protection, something that he needed to hide behind. He heard voices in his head, but with time, he learned how to block them out until they faded away. The world as he knew it had been entirely confusing, and he often times thought himself to be mad. Certainly, he was aware that he was different from everyone else, though he felt it to be so in the worst possible way.

The power of the Abyss within him distorted the reality around him, creating misfortune in his wake. At a very young age, he lost his father to an unfortunate accident - and at twelve, his mother was consumed by a chain, leaving him orphaned. Elliot was fatally attacked by a chain attempting to protect him, and in deciding to save the other boy by contracting him to said chain, doomed him to a life plagued by murder at his own hands, and ultimately, death. Not only did he fault himself for always being 'the weird one', but also for his existence causing misery to the person he cared for most.

Elliot was his most precious person, indeed. He holds the young man in very high esteem, and would have done anything within his power to ensure his safety, going as far as requesting that Oz kill him (Leo) if he should lose himself to madness and become a threat. It was through peculiar circumstances that he and Elliot became friends, but their starkly contrasting personalities allowed them to balance one another out in such a way that they bonded dearly. The other boy's quick temper and outbursts caused Leo to become more level-headed in turn, and through his faults, he was able to observe and improve his own. He learned how to interact with children and express affection, notably, and improve communication with others. Unfortunately, he failed to pick up on any of the talents with weaponry that Elliot possesses, nor any of his fantastic perception; Leo's positively useless with swords and guns, despite carrying them for the purpose of serving as a bodyguard, and he's rather clueless to his surroundings. They still make a good team, in any case, as Leo's cleverness and utter lack of apprehension allows him to follow Elliot into trouble without hesitation.

The tragedy that resulted in Elliot's death lead on to shine light on many aspects of Leo's previously confusing life. While he no longer felt that he was mad in the sense of seeing and hearing things that didn't exist (which he now knows to be the lights of the abyss, and the voices of Glen), his instability worsened, leading him to become far more prone to displaying manic-like symptoms. Unable to cope with the stress of losing the most important person to him, he dissolved into and uncontrollable state of screaming over his corpse. Likewise, he was unable to be pressed too far, concerning the details of the situation surrounding the death afterward, without dissolving into similar fits.

The fault he took upon himself was traumatic in itself, but he's ultimately lost the foundation that kept him together. It seems that his personality has regressed to its past state before meeting Elliot, if not worsened, ever since. An excellent example would be that he vehemently objects to physical contact, as he once did before, or how he has been shown to regard some with an outwardly abrasive and verbally abusive manner. Though, now, it may not simply reflect his displeasure with the world, but his own self as well.

Since, he has accepted his fate as the next vassal of Glen Baskerville, in an effort to give himself new purpose - but, in truth, he has only become more unpredictable, and enabled himself to become more out of control and destructive. His actions are so reckless, Oz has stated that he is trying to eradicate those around him, but rather, himself.

Abilities/Powers: Leo is contracted to Jabberwock, a powerful creature known as a Chain, born from the otherworldly Abyss. To form a legal contract with a chain is a difficult and often extensive process that first begins with gaining its acceptance, and once that is achieved, reciting an oath and drinking its blood. This is the typical process for those of the Baskerville house; however, this is also known as 'illegal contracting', as it it extremely caustic to the bodies of anyone else that undergoes it - and, in fact, inevitably leads to their demise.

In contrast to a 'legal contractor' that accepts the chain's seal onto a Carcere (blood seal mirror), they accept the seals directly onto their bodies. Said seal contains a hand that rotates around like that of a clock, and once it has completed, triggers a reaction that causes the contractor being dragged down into the Abyss. Additionally, the weight of the chain's powers can cause a body to significantly wear down over time. A Baskerville need not worry about such matters, though, as their seals appear without hands and bear no major consequences.

While a Carcere enables its wearer to bear the powers of a chain without placing exertion on the body, and thus allows them to use their chain to its limit instead of their own, it limits the chain's capabilities. 'Illegal contractors' and Baskervilles are able to use their chain at its full power, but must learn how to become resilient to its wearing effects.

With the power of Jabberwock, he is capable of generating powerful energy beams that will destroy anything in its path. The major drawback of such an ability is that it takes some time to charge. Additionally, the chain is able to pass judgement on anyone deemed to have committed a sin by opening up a path to the Abyss and summoning the the Chains of Condemnation to come forth, in addition to maintaining and preventing further damage to the chains (a different, more literal sort) that hold their physical world in-tact. The contract with his chain also prevents his body from aging physically.

Jabberwock may also be used to physically restrain another with its massive talons, or as a mode of transport by allowing anyone welcomed by its master to ride in its hands, or on its back.

Due to being born with the power of Glen inside his body, he is able to see the floating lights generated by the power of the Abyss. While no others are capable of seeing them, the reflections of the orbs can be seen reflected in his dark eyes. (Notes: While the Abyss likely does not exist in connection to Haven, and thus would be inaccessible to the Glens as such, its power would still be present and visible to him. The vessel of Glen is saturated with said power, as are the chains and past souls that reside within it, so the lights would exist around him. They will simply be far, far fewer in number.) As he always carries the souls of the previous Glens with him, he can hear their voices any time - though he had how to block them out over time, if he so chooses. Finally, he is incapable of dying, as the power within him allows his body to regenerate, as is true for any Baskerville.

Aside from supernatural abilities, Leo has a naturally superb talent at playing piano, being self-taught. It was said that whenever he played, all of the children in the orphanage would fall silent and close their eyes. Due to his love of literature and all his efforts devoted to it, he has also a formidable amount of knowledge regarding various matters. One could also say that he's quite good at reading situations and judging how to properly react to them, which in turn gives him excellent problem-solving capabilities.

Unfortunately for most, he is also surprisingly strong for his size, and has a pretty decent arm when it comes to dealing throws.

Items/Weapons: Nothing but the clothes on his back, really.

Sample Entry: Previous thread.

Sample Entry Two:

It had only been a few weeks since Leo arrived, but his introduction into this new world had been so entirely shocking that everything since seemed like smooth sailing! While he couldn't say that he was back to his old self, he was at the very least in better spirits. The most important person to him was there, alive and well - and more importantly, happy.

Having rented himself a new book or two (actually, more like six) from the library, he nearly strutted his way home with the new treasures held to his chest. Two new fiction novels, one recent book on evolution, some informational reads on torture methods through the ages, and what seemed to be a picture book compressed into panes over several pages - because why not, right? It was a new time and place for him, and there was much to learn. That in itself was exciting.

Nearly halfway home, the overcast became more dense and gave way to rain. Leo had been under the impression that the weather was typical gloom before a storm, as the television box said it wouldn't rain until-- oh. Of course. He'd lost track of time in the library, foolish as it was.

Muttering a curse under his breath, he huddled over to protect the bundle of books that he held, attempting to rush home the best he could. Rain weighed down his bangs and leaked into his eyes, it was miserable not having his glasses for protection at such a time! What's worse, he never heard anyone approaching before he bumped into them, jarring his arm and sending his books tumbling to the ground - and luck would have it that he'd trip attempting to dodge them while skidding to a stop on the sidewalk.

"Ugh, sorry, I--" Pushing the hair out of his face, he realized that the pages were getting soaked, and hunched over to grab them with grit teeth.

The stranger - an older man - mistook the movement for attempts at standing. He certainly wasn't pleased about being bumped into so harshly, but he felt obligated to help him up, at least. "You alright?," he asked, and reached out to hook his hand in the crook of Leo's arm, plucking him off the ground to pull him to stand.

Being so focused on gathering his books, he'd only managed to grab most of them by the time he'd been pulled upward, and it was all very unexpected. His body stiffened, and his head whipped around to meet the gaze of the man who grasped him, wide-eyed. He swore that the other did a double-take on his eyes, and while part of him urged that it didn't matter - that perhaps it was simply paranoia! - his subconscious took over. Before he ever realized it, he smacked away the man's hand with surprising strength.

"LET ME GO!"

He leaned down to grab the remaining books and scurried away faster than he could think. He ran and ran until he came to his senses, spotting a sheltered alley in which he could escape the rain and catch his breath for a moment.

Swallowing and sighing deeply, he collapsed against the stone wall, setting his books aside to bury his face into his arms. That had been so foolish... What was wrong with him?

Character Name: Terra (Markov)
Canon: Teen Titans (animated)
Canon Point: End of "Terra"; she has left the Tower but not yet reached Slade.
Background/History: Terra on the Teen Titans wiki.

Personality: On the surface, Terra is a laid-back, easygoing drifter with an appreciation for the outdoors and a love of meeting new people. She jumps right into her first conversation with the Titans, taking the lead in introductions and overall exhibiting a great deal of confidence. She settles into the group quickly and immediately makes herself at home. The Titans waste almost no time in deciding she'd make a great addition to their team, both because of her powers and because of how well she fits within the team's dynamic.

But beneath this, Terra is actually incredibly insecure and frightened. She lacks control over her earth-based powers, and has caused numerous disasters in the past with them. Her fear that she will lose control of her powers is her deepest secret and the primary driving force behind her nomadic lifestyle. Thus, she keeps people at arm's length and doesn't let them get too close to her; she doesn't even plan to stick around the Titans too long. Letting people get close will only make things harder to deal with when she inevitably has to leave.

This is reinforced by Beast Boy's perceived betrayal of her. Beast Boy is the first of the Titans Terra really connects with; they build rapport rather quickly since he plays off her carefree mask much better than stick-in-the-mud Raven or super-serious-business Robin. She briefly loses control of her powers in front of him, and is forced to confess her problem, but makes him swear not to tell. Unfortunately, Robin figures it out on his own, but Terra's paranoia is so bad that she immediately assumes Beast Boy had broken his promise. As a result, Terra is now less inclined to trust in people more than ever. It would take an impressive display of sincerity to get her to open up again.

As evidenced by what happens to her later, Terra is someone who is easily influenced and persuaded by others and who has difficulty taking responsibility for her actions. These are not actually new traits to her, given her backstory explained in the Teen Titans Go! comics. Terra was a member of the royal family of Markovia, and so her childhood was one of royal protocols and high stress. She had other people take charge of her life, right up to the point where she was experimented on and given her earth-moving powers. Rather than have her more talented brother Geo-Force help her master powers she didn't even want, Terra chose to shirk not only royal duty but also personal responsibility and run away from Markovia.

Her childhood groomed her perfectly for a series of poor decisions later in life that she is incapable of acknowledging as her fault. She is won over by Slade shortly after leaving the Titans, then sent back to them as a spy. When the time comes to destroy the team from within, Beast Boy calls her out on letting it all happen. Terra shrugs it off with the excuse that Slade helped her and now she owes him. She continues to ignore her responsibility for all the damage she's caused as she eliminates the Titans and subjugates the city in Slade's name, resisting all appeals to her better nature with the idea that "it's too late" for her to change or take control of her situation. It isn't until the very end of her arc that she finally takes charge of herself, but at her current canon point, she is still a lost girl who prefers to drift on the winds of destiny and let other people control her, for better or for worse.

Abilities/Powers: As her name might imply, Terra has complete control over the earth, including even small particles of earth like mud and sand. She can move and levitate rocks, as well as change their forms (e.g. combine several rocks into one large one, harden mud into stone, etc.). Terra often uses her levitated boulders as platforms to help her fly as well.

Terra's application of her powers is very basic in comparison to her later appearances. She throws rocks at bad guys and flies around on a boulder, nothing too complicated. Some of what she does almost seems accidental or a reflex (a good example being in the mine fight with Slade, where she cowers from one of his attacks and a boulder pops up behind her, making him back off). But once Slade teaches her control, she finds many more uses for her powers, including the aforementioned mud control and the ability to actually move her body through the earth. These won't come up now because of her canon point, but they're worth noting if she ever starts refining her powers while in Haven.

At this point in the series, Terra has minimal control over her powers. Overuse of them can lead to her snapping and causing accidents ranging from collapsed cliffsides to full-on earthquakes. It's difficult to gauge what causes her to lose control, as we only see it happen thrice in the series -- once when Beast Boy refers directly to using her powers, once when Sladebots destroy a few rocks she's levitating at the time (seemingly causing a sort of power backlash), and later when she is fighting Slade and becomes overly emotional. Each subsequent incident is much more destructive than the last, so it's likely that the more stressed and scared Terra becomes, the more likely she is to lose control and the worse it is for everyone when it happens. This means she has a lot of potential to destroy parts of Haven, so if anything needs to be worked out with regards to a destruction cap, I'd be fine with that.

Items/Weapons: Nothing!

Sample Entry: [Terra's never owned a proper cell phone before, but it's not as though they're hard to figure out. In no time at all, she's got the video function set up and she's ready to address Haven at large.]

Uh...hi.

[That's how you start these things off, right?]

So, a lot of you have already told me what's going on here, and I appreciate it! I really do. But I had one more question, so I gotta ask--

[The video flies around for a second as she...what is she doing? Well, she wanted to hold up the phone as a demonstration, forgetting completely that she is currently using it to communicate with the town. Once she realizes that's not going to work, the video stabilizes as she puts the phone back where it was.]

Whoops--! I'm not used to using these things. Sorry.

Anyway, my question is, why bother giving us phones at all? If we're really trapped here with no hope of escaping or whatever, shouldn't we not have phones so we can be as super-miserable as possible?

Plus, aren't cell phones supposed to be really expensive? Seems like a waste of money if you ask me...

[She doesn't realize you can get crappy phones like this for five bucks at a pawn shop.]

It probably sounds like a really weird question, but I was just kinda curious.

Sample Entry Two: She required a rock to leave the harbor island on which Titans Tower sat, but she ditched it shortly afterwards and began running instead. With how upset and miserable she was, using her powers for too long was dangerous. At least, even in her current state of confusion, she still had enough self-awareness to realize that. At least she could still protect herself that way.

Running does a lot to clear her mind, especially on this warm and clear night. Soon she's feeling less anxious and more focused. First, she has to crash somewhere for the night. She can't keep running aimlessly (as far from them, as far from him as possible) until her legs give out. Once she's found shelter, she can figure out where to go from here -- either out of Jump City and into some other town where no one knows her, or...

Or she could find Slade. The only person who could help her.

Terra finds a cave on the other side of the ridge outside of the city. It seems really familiar... Ah, that's it. This is the cave she slept in two nights ago, right before she'd run into that scorpion (and the Titans)

don't think about them

She crouches to get into the cave, whose entrance is only about three feet tall but which opens up once you get in. The light from the moon doesn't reach in, so she flicks her flashlight on and finds the area she'd slept on previously. It wouldn't be particularly comfortable for a normal person, but Terra's never really had trouble falling asleep on hard ground, and even if she had at first, she's used to it by now.

Her initial anger is gone, replaced by the familiar feeling of guilt, of running away. Maybe she hadn't caused a disaster this time around, but it still feels like she's destroyed something important. It's the same feeling as all the other running-aways. And that's why she can't go back. She's never gone back to a place she's damaged, and she can't go back to the Titans. The only way to go now is forward.

She has to find Slade.

Character Name: Victor Talbot
Canon: Baccano!
Canon Point: 1934 (Alice in Jails: Prison and Street episodes)

Background/History:
Victor Wikia (This information has not caught up with the books, so it is a bit outdated.)

Victor Talbot was in exile of the UK after giving his abrasive opinion of the South Sea Company while they were creating the charter. From there he joined with the aristocrat house Dormentaire to serve as their eyes and ears. He works as one of their information gathering alchemists. His reason for putting his loyalty with them was due to a woman named Lucrezia, who drew him in as part of her harem. He is well aware of his position as a tool, and comments on it. He does not seem to have an issue taking up that role.

In 1711 he works with a Dormentaire alchemist named Szilard Quates to seek out the dark secrets of Lotto Valentino in Italy. The most important being the secret to immortality. Victor spends most of his time focusing on the corruption in the town seeking out the criminal actions likely taken up by the famous alchemists of Lotto Valentino. He keeps constant correspondence back to Lucrezia and works as a middle man for their spies in the town. Even with this key position, he finds himself out of the loop and an accidental stowaway on the Advenna Avis. The Advenna Avis ends up being the boat the Lotto Valentino alchemists took to flee the town and to create the elixir of immortality on board.

Gaining immortality on the Advenna Avis, he landed with them in the New World (America) and split up with the rest. This was due to Szilard Quates committing the grievous act of “devouring” other immortals before falling overboard and being lost at sea. Most of the immortals went their own way in fear of losing their lives and the immortality they just gained. Some of the immortals left on their own to see truth to their existence.

Victor does not come up again until the early 1900’s. In particular the 1930’s. He joins with the Bureau of Investigation and gains some skillful allies as he seeks to monitor the other immortals and keep them from bringing harm to innocents. When they become the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), he uses their expanded influence to have a special task force that focuses on the acts of certain groups. He helps cover up certain events that could reveal immortals to the entire world. One such event being the chaos on the train called the Flying Pussyfoot. That was where a few immortals, a cult to another immortal, a gang, and a vicious hit man waged war on the train and left despair and death in their wake.

By 1934 Szilard is dead, and there are a bunch of newer immortals on the loose. A good number of the new immortals are in two mafia-like gangs. These two gangs give him a bit of a headache as the immortal who knows the secret to make the elixir of immortality is among them. In 1934, he “arrests” one of the newer immortals to get information out of yet another immortal he had imprisoned in Alcatraz. Victor hopes this newer immortal will be able to get information out of the prisoner due to Victor failing at interrogating him. Things do not go as planned and now events unfold that seem to be leading to a head on fight between several influential groups, with the immortals being right in the middle of it.

I am taking him from during the events of 1934.

Personality:
Victor’s moral code is full of contradictions and hypocrisy. When questioned about Victor, another immortal named Nile spoke of such as well. According to Nile, Victor Talbot is a man who thinks law is needed to keep people good and to keep order to the world. He is not one to be a stickler for the rules, though. He seems to judge which rules are more important than others in his own mind. He is also known to be cocky, abrasive and excitable. Nile also considers Victor to be a clever idiot.

Victor believes law is needed to govern people to be good. The rules should not be so strict that they are oppressive. Still, they should be in place so that people do not run about and do what they want at the expense of innocent people. For an immortal, Victor tends to bond with people far too often and sees his job to enforce some rules in order to keep those people, and people in general, safe. He’s willing to break rules he doesn't think are needed, and tends to change his opinion on what rules and laws are important in general as he goes along. Another way to put it, for one who believes so strongly in the need for law and order, he has yet to pin down just what laws and just what sort of order is needed. He seems to be seeking a moral law that is vague enough to cover all the boundaries he needs but simple enough to not control every detail of one’s life. He spends as much time lecturing the other immortals on what actions they should and should not be taking as he does covering up for them and hiding their presence to keep them out of trouble. He still lets his own laws and moral codes keep him from going too far, as he admits he could destroy other immortals but he won’t because that would just make him a monster.

His temperament tends to be the most noticeable and most constant part of his personality. He is abrasive. He tends to curse and rant when excited or annoyed. He’ll belittle or insult people without a care when he feels strongly about something. He can’t always hold up his end of an argument and tends to just out yell or out talk his opponent to not deal with their come backs. He believes himself to be right and no amount of wit or wordplay will convince him otherwise. He’s stubborn on that point and cocky enough to believe he is the better man in a situation. Because of all of this, he tends to get into rants and proves to be overly talkative.

Throughout all of this, Victor does some foolish things. Even discounting his inability to out argue someone without yelling over them, he tends to make a lot of simple mistakes as he goes. He ended up on the Advenna Avis by trying to ambush the alchemists on it with a gun, only to realize that due to women and children being on board he’d be unable to fire said weapon without risking potentially hitting them. So he got beaten up due to his lack of foresight in his threats. Still, he’s clever enough to notice key things and see how events may unfold, like predicting the escape on the Advenna Avis, even if he isn’t bright enough to find the solution. He figures things out with surprising skill. This skill is even more of a surprise to someone who actually has spoken with him.

Abilities/Powers:
He is a pitiable alchemist. He knows the basics but does not show any talent for it. He probably knows just enough to understand what he is looking at.

He’s immortal. The immortality given by the elixir is near perfect. Every cell of his body returns to their proper place. Severed limbs and even blood flow back to combine back with the whole. Injuries regenerate faster the more used to said injury they are. Newer trauma takes a short bit for their body to resolve. His body never changes and there is no true way (in their world) to permanently change him beyond eating being “devoured.” Each immortal has the ability to “devour” another immortal of their own kind with their right hand, gaining their knowledge and experiences. They also have the power to pass on knowledge to each other with their left hand.

His more mundane skills are general ability to use a gun, general hand to hand combat and basic acrobatic like talents (that he admits are not perfect).

Items/Weapons:
Sidearm: Colt OP .38 Special
FBI Badge:
Personal Notebook: Now blank

Sample Entry:
[An annoyed man rocking the side burns makes a mass video call. He unleashes his annoyance over the open air waves.]

I don't get it. I really don't get it. No. I mean, I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really...

[He takes a deep breath.]

Really don’t get it. This place. I’ve seen a lot of places but this one sits on the top of the shit list right up there with Lotto Valentino. Seriously, who thought this place was a good idea? And what the hell happened anyways? Did everyone just stock up and die off just so a group of people from fuck knows where could arrive and pick through their garbage?

Someone out there has got to have answers. Come on, speak up! I don’t have all day.

Sample Entry Two:
The figure leaps from the railing. His fingers catch a vertical pipe and he spins down in a quick spiral before landing on his feet at the scene. The lights reveal Victor Talbot, brushing off his hands on his pants and trying to play it cool after that little acrobatic feat. Of course, that shit eating grin helps ruin the look. Wearing slacks, nicer shoes and a button up shirt, he looks like he should be a desk worker. For some reason he sees no problem showing off in his plain attire. Victor still plays it off as he speaks, "Well then, let's begin! Who died?"

He just now notices the corpse. Victor said he'd meet people here, but he really did not expect a corpse. His surprise turns to grim annoyance as he moves to have a closer look. Victor mutters under his breath, "And after I finally landed that move without falling."

He gets serious as he pulls out a pen and moves the arms of the corpse to get a look at it without touching it. Victor then lets out a long, frustrated, breath and stands. With the toe of his shoe, he unceremoniously flips the corpse and notices all the blood on the back. Crouching down again to poke at the dried wound with his pen, he grits his teeth. "A stabbing. Shit. SHIT."

Victor turns to the rest of the group. His heart pumping, "What is even going on here? Why here? Fuck. Is this a message? It this some fucked up game? The plan is off, let's look around and figure out who did this and then I want to ask them a few questions. Rough them up all you like but I want to talk to them. If this is a game we're putting an end to it."

Character Name: Noel Vermillion
Canon: BlazBlue
Canon Point: Post-Continuum Shift

Background/History: Noel on the BlazBlue wiki!

Personality: When one considers the ministerial secretary of Jin Kisaragi, world-renowned for his exploits during the Ikaruga Civil War and nicknamed the “Hero of Ikaruga,” it isn’t very hard to imagine a calm, calculated, and cool young woman to serve by his side.

Yeah? Well, whoever hired that secretary was clearly either playing a cruel joke or under some influence—enter Noel Vermillion. Unfortunately, poor Noel is anything but cool. Try as she might to uphold her esteemed position, it’s very obvious to even those who barely know her that she hardly qualifies. She’s prone to be a flake, a ditz, and a lazy glutton who would even fail to read over the important documents that entailed her top-secret mission in favor of sleeping (waking up only to eat).

Perhaps credit is not being given where credit is due, however. After all, it was not necessarily Noel who had asked for a position as important as her own. Thrust mysteriously with the request to graduate from the military academy early six months early, Noel reluctantly took up the position of Jin Kisaragi’s ministerial secretary, a former upper classmate who had never been particularly fond of her, with the prospect of her foster parents’ family name being cleared, as well as the promise of their dire financial situation being put to an end. Pulled abruptly from a happy, friendly environment that she had come to cherish, Noel was suddenly faced with the cold, hard reality that was the world. In a way, it should come as no surprise to some that she was barely unprepared to take on the position that had been practically forced upon her.

She tries, too. Though Noel has her setbacks, she really does try to give it her all. As an officer on duty, Noel at least attempts to put on a front that she can be a competent officer who serves the NOL without question—but a front is only a front, and deep down there are a number of things that come together to hinder her performance and lower her self-confidence.

Noel is like a lost child. She doesn’t know who she is, or where she came from. She was found in the wreckage and remains of the city of Ibukido shortly after the catastrophe that had hit it and can’t remember anything past that day. She has constant dreams of laying in a white room, unable to move as a figure looks down upon her; a figure she can neither see nor speak to. She relies heavily on her weapons, Bolverk, and honestly? The only thing Noel is outstanding at is fighting. She will trip over the red cords that adorn her outfit, but once the guns are out and she moves like the wind, Noel becomes an entirely different person. And it’s weird. Noel knows it’s weird, how all of these strange occurrences have surrounded her, how a Nox Nyctores—a legendary weapon out of ten others thought only to be a legend—suddenly appeared before her one day when she was attacked by a monster. She knows that there is some meaning behind it all.

Like a child, however, she covers her ears and pretends it’s all a coincidence. Simply put, Noel is afraid of the truth; a truth she wishes to run away from, but ultimately fails to—

The truth that she is not human, but in fact an artificially created being whose purpose is to destroy.

All of her insecurities and fears stem from this uncertainty. Up until the very end of Continuum Shift, this sense of inadequacy is the driving force of her self-consciousness and social awkwardness. What is a girl supposed to do with such heavy baggage?

Obviously, there are her friends. Despite her shortcomings and fears, if there is one aspect in her life that is her light, it is her friends. Noel values friendship and loyalty, and will do anything for either Tsubaki or Makoto. The time she spent with them at the military academy was by far the happiest time of her life, and it will always be something she holds dearly in her heart. Once her mind is set on something such as protecting either of the two, Noel develops an iron will that won’t easily shatter. With what she is passionate in, even, such as poetry and cooking, Noel’s motivation will show no bounds… even if the former will cause anyone to burst out laughing and the latter to kill someone.

She will get worked up at the smallest of things and may cry at the drop of a hat, but Noel is Noel. Noel is a girl who has yet to realize her full potential; the heroine of a story who carries a major burden. Even so, contrary to her dark origins, her feelings and emotions are distinctly human. There is hope, even for her.

Abilities/Powers: Despite her small demeanor, Noel is not to be taken lightly when on the battlefield. Being able to summon and wield her weapon Bolverk, a pair of magical large-barrel handguns that can take on other forms, it’s as though she becomes an entirely different person when she fights. The clumsiness most knew her for now gone, the quick, stylized movements she dishes out during a fight make it seem as though she were almost dancing—a “bullet dance,” the style could be pinned as (except most know it as “gunkata”). She may be small, but her agility and frame is a frequent advantage of hers and, yet again, not to be taken lightly.

And then there’s her other power.

In the story, Noel plays a huge role in the fate of her world. Because of her actions, she singlehandedly destroyed a timeloop that had been plaguing the world hundreds upon hundreds of times: the “Calamity Trigger.” She comes to be known as the Eye of the Azure. What is the Azure, you might ask? You could compare its power and the desire in which people have to seek out that power with other super-powered artifacts from different universes (i.e...idk, the Triforce). It is the ultimate power in Noel’s world.

Becoming the “Eye” means a number of things—some we are still not even aware of. It does mean, however, that Noel is now the successor to this power and that there is a chance that simply touching others grants her the ability to see the memories of the individual she laid her hands on. There is also a very good chance that because of these powers Noel has even become an immortal. Despite all this, she has yet to come into full control of these powers…

Sample Entry Two:
She was with her friend before she woke up, she remembered.

Somewhere far away from Kagutsuchi, finally, after what a few weeks felt like a lifetime of memories — and that was only the beginning. Mister Jubei had already warned her as much, offered to hide her someplace safe once upon a time, but she had refused the offer. It scared Noel a little, of course. The dangers, the hardships, the unforgiving truth that still hung over her head, like a wound that kept reopening if she thought about it enough.

What hurt the most, though, was remembering Tsubaki. Tsubaki, her friend, gentle blue eyes turned an angry crimson as they bore down her, down Major Kisaragi down in the Sheol Gates way back then — a completely different person, taken and to be used by the very same people that had used her.

That was why she had to continued fighting. Why she would push back the little fears that tugged at her. She and Makoto; together, they would make a difference. They would save her.

Noel was with her friend, talking about something... but she couldn't remember the words. It was hard to, what with the incessant ringing, the ringing...was that an alarm clock?

"...eh?"

Her eyes opened, and she wasn't with her friend anymore.

Personality:
Frederick is introduced as "Frederick the wary" by Chrom, and indeed the title suits him. He does not immediately trust the Avatar like Chrom does, but instead states that his position mandates him to maintain wariness in all circumstances. This is true; as a knight in charge of the safety of the prince and princess of Ylisse, Frederick takes his job very seriously and does everything in his power to look after Chrom and Lissa. He serves the Shepherds as well, looking after his comrades and teaching them to fight. Frederick is outspoken as well, often stating his mind even when it could potentially get him in trouble.

As a knight, Frederick is expected to look out for the royal family. He takes this duty very seriously and blames himself after the Exalt's sacrifice in Chapter 9. He doesn't spend long moping about it though, instead he promises to look after Chrom and Lissa and ensure their safety, even though he had failed to keep Emmeryn safe. He doesn't focus on what could have been, instead looking toward the future. Frederick is not necessarily quick to move on, but he does move on eventually and doesn't get stuck on past endeavors. He devotes his life to serving Chrom and Lissa, and will do everything in his power to protect them from harm.

In Fire Emblem: Awakening, Frederick is incredibly overpowered in the beginning. He is never once cocky or arrogant about his abilities, instead maintaining a humble outlook and focusing on helping others better themselves. In his supports with Sully, he is shown to help her train, never once bragging about his victories.

Maribelle calls him a butler in their support conversations, which is an incredibly accurate description of Frederick. He cares deeply for the royal family and does absolutely everything he can to serve them: from repairing their clothes to creating posters that will energize the troops to clearing their path of gravel and branches to make sure they don't trip. This behavior is over-the-top and during his support conversations with Chrom, Frederick finally realizes how humiliating it is to be babied in such a way. He still does work very hard to ensure that everyone in the army is safe and comfortable, however, as he really doesn't know how to spend his free time otherwise.

In his support conversations with Lissa, Frederick reveals that he doesn't know how to relax. He is always very uptight and wound-up, keeping an eye out for danger even when the circumstances are as peaceful as can be, such as in the beginning of the game when Chrom and Lissa find the Avatar unconcsiouc in a field. Frederick needs to fill his time with tasks and needs to keep busy, otherwise he feels like he's wasting precious time. He does agree to let Lissa teach him how to relax, though he's certainly not very good at it and still finds it to be a waste of time.

Frederick is very patient, not just with the prince and princess, but with everyone. Lissa and Chrom are both a bit difficult to deal with in different ways - Lissa is very over-the-top and energetic while Chrom rushes headlong into danger - but Frederick never once shows irritation with them. He is staunchly loyal to the royal family and will always follow whatever orders he's given. That doesn't mean that he doesn't see Chrom and Lissa just as superiors, he also sees them as friends, just like the rest of the Shepherds.

There is some distance between Frederick and the rest of the Shepherds, however. Frederick is not the most emotionally competent person and sometimes has difficulty telling what others are feeling if it's not spelled out for him. He sometimes says things that are hurtful, such as in his support conversations with the Avatar. He doesn't mean to be hurtful, he's just not very socially competent. This is also why he sees no issue with babying Chrom and Lissa. In his S-rank support conversation with Nowi, he doesn't even realize she's saying that she's in love with him until she spells it out for him. Frederick may be a great knight, but he's not the best person to deal with in social situations.

As far as training goes, Frederick is determined to protect others as best he can. He takes his training very seriously and doesn't give up. He also insists on training the other Shepherds, even if they don't want to be a part of his over-the-top training routine. He's doing it for the good of the army though; he has no interest in glory or praise (though he is human and he does like praise) and is instead doing all this to support Ylisse.

There is only one thing Frederick is afraid of, and that's due to an incident when he was a child. As a child he was attacked by a wolf and memories of the attack resurface during his support conversations with Panne. They work together to help him through the trauma, but Frederick finds it hard to be near Panne in beast form because of what happened. He's otherwise unafraid of anything and takes all his fights very seriously. In his supports with Nowi, he asks to train against her in dragon form so that he can be better prepared for combat should he ever face a Manakete foe; he's clearly very devoted to his training and fighting despite his fear.

While he might be a bit over the top when it comes to caring for the royal family, Frederick is ultimately the most loyal servant Chrom and Lissa could have. He will always stay by their side and will always assist them in any way possible and he will always follow their orders. Frederick cares about the other Shepherds as well and will look out for them too. He's powerful but humble and gentle despite how cold he may seem at first. Frederick is overall a good friend and ally to have in any situation.

Abilities/Powers:
  • Discipline. Doubles the amount of Weapon EXP gained by the user.
  • Outdoor Fighter. Increases Avoid and Accuracy by 10 when battling outside.
  • Luna. Halves the enemy's Defense and Resistance.
  • Dual Guard+. It increases the chance for a Dual Guard occurring by 10%. If both units in the Pair Up have the skill equipped, then the activation rate is increased by 20%.

Frederick is obviously a skilled knight, and one of the most powerful units early on in the game. The skills listed above are the ones he has in his job of Great Knight, though he can switch jobs and learn other skills. I'll be keeping him as a Great Knight in Haven (not that he'd have access to Second Seals anyway). Frederick is also skilled at horseback riding and fighting on horseback; Great Knights all ride horses and Frederick is no exception. That doesn't mean he can't fight on foot, however. His other jobs allow him to fight on foot and he's just as skilled there. Frederick cannot use magic and instead focuses on physical attacks.

[personal profile] precto 2013-10-10 10:12 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Len is mostly a cat. That is a statement represents everything she is. If one were to sneak up behind her and scare her, the next sight you would see is Len making a mad dash towards the nearest hiding spot to get her bearings. She also possesses all the finickiness of cats. Len may find that she'll dislike you one day simply because you looked at her the wrong way or were wearing a color she disliked. Then again, she may be attracted to your presence simply because she's in a good mood that day. This is what it means to be part cat.

Also like a cat, Len is extremely elegant. She moves lithely and with grace and often disappears with only the tinkling of a bell as an indication. Even in the few words she speaks, you can tell she's much more experienced than her face belies and her years really tell. Her elegance extends to food she eats as she will not simply eat random scraps and water for dinner. Len shows up for full meals and a bottle of wine in the bowl. Sometimes she'll take milk but this is generally only when cake is also served. Did I mention that Len loves cake because she LOVES cake. For someone so small, she will down an entire cake on her own and ask for more, no regrets.

It's the asking part that becomes a problem. You see, Len doesn't speak or talk. She does this entirely out of choice as she does have verbal lines. Her voice is actually described as sounding as sweet and melodious as angelic bells. But,for whatever reason, she chooses to not speak. Len makes up for this lack of speaking by being very expressive. It's extremely easy to tell what Len is thinking by looking at her face. As a matter of fact, all the characters seem to be able to tell what she's thinking word for word instead of a vague guess as to what the reason to her expression may be. So her lack of dialogue isn't a handicap.

Most important to Len is her relationship with Tohno Shiki. She is Shiki's familiar which means he supplies Len with prana so that she can exist. Normally, Len would not need prana supplied by an outside source but she nearly gave her life keeping Shiki alive so she had to form a contract with him to continue to exist. The relationship between the two is like a father spoiling his daughter and the daughter being overprotective of her father. The real reason behind the oddity here is that Len is over three hundred years old so it’s kind of almost playing opposites. Either way, Len will do anything in her power and more to make sure Shiki stays safe despite the fact that he gets into trouble all the time. Even if she has to scold him or punish him.

Abilities/Powers:
Len possesses the ability to enter into the dreams others and completely control the dreams. She is a dream succubus so she gains magical energy by giving people sexual oriented dreams and then eating the energy created by the dreamer. For 300 years, she has been using this method to exist without a master so it definitely works.

She also possesses a high capability of regeneration, having her head twisted off at one point but still being able to survive and recreate her body. Being part cat, Len is capable of transforming back and forth between human and cat form. When she is surprised, she tends to grow ears and tail. Finally, she has a few magical spells at her command which allow her to attack with sharp bits of ice or balls of magical energy.

Oh yeah, she can also summon a giant cake, fork, and knife out of midair, I am not lying.

Items/Weapons: A neko-arc doll.

Personality: It's difficult to discuss Asbel's personality without discussing how he changes over the game - so I'll start at the beginning. Asbel starts the game as an 11-year old boy, and to be frank he's a little shit. He's overconfident, he's exuberant, he's not very considerate of others at all and drags people into his messes with very little regard for the consequences. He does things without thinking and he basically thinks he's Tiny King Shit of Fuck Mountain. Even as a kid we can see how determined and driven a character he is, when he sets his mind to something; when he brings Sophie home and his dad acts as if it's ridiculous that Asbel can take care of Sophie, he says he's going to do it anyway, much to his dad's chagrin. He runs in with a wooden sword to save an overturned caravan holding the Prince of Windor, despite this being a very obviously bad choice as an 11-year old boy -- the idea of him failing at something, at not being the hero, never occurs to him.

Of course, that fails. Him and his group of babby friends and family - Hubert, Cheria, Sophie, and Richard - go exploring under Barona and accidentially awaken a horrible monster, which proceeds to nearly kill the entire group except Asbel. Asbel's the only one conscious for Sophie fighting it off, for saving all of them, and -- more importantly -- the only one conscious for when the seemingly defeated monster impales Sophie, and she dies destroying it.

Saying this affects Asbel's development is an understatement along the lines of saying "the sun is warm". Asbel's response to this is to flee Lhant and his family, his friends who feels like he's failed (especially Sophie, who now seems to be dead), and become a knight. Becoming a knight was always his dream as a kid, but there's a deeper sense of urgency for why now. It's not because "oh it'd be really cool to be a knight!", which seems to be the extent of Asbel's reasoning as a kid - now it's to protect people. He promised to protect Sophie, and failed - and unlike his friends, he had to see that. They know she died, certainly, but they weren't aware of what exactly happened, and Asbel being conscious for it and knowing he couldn't have done anything, even if he hadn't already been hurt, weighs on him heavier than anything else.

It's Sophie's death that also cuts down on that blind confidence in Asbel, and allows him to reflect and see how flawed he is, where he admits that he can't, at this point in time, protect anyone, where he's realizing that all his rash decisions didn't solve anything, that nobody's better protected now that he's a knight. It's a source of pain for him, that essentially the reason everything happened is his fault; if he hadn't insisted everyone go into the Barona catacombs, if he hadn't dragged everyone around, if he hadn't bothered Richard at all, it's very possible none of the awful things that did happen would have. And later, we see him having the capability of knowing his other flaws; he admits openly that he feels rather than thinks, and one of the reasons he needs - not "likes having around", NEEDS - some of the other party members, like Cheria and Hubert, is that somebody needs to counterbalance him. As much as he knows the importance of thinking things through, he's also self-aware enough to know that he's not going to in a time of crisis.

He's also got one other major flaw that he admits to - the total inability to gather information. Asbel is oblivious to things that happen around him. He's totally ignorant to Cheria's feelings about him that she's very obviously had for about seven years, and very frequently needs things that should have been obvious to people paying attention told to him. The important thing though, is that he's not stupid. He's very capable of making correct decisions based on information once he has the information that he needs, and we see him able to deduce things like complex puzzles in various dungeons to defeat security systems. He's the one making the calls for the party on what to do next, and almost invariably he is *correct* once he has the information, but god help you if you need him to investigate something or find shit out, because he simply... doesn't get things himself.

Of course, his intelligence isn't his greatest strength. It is that heart, that feeling. Asbel is a man who's not afraid to die for what he believes in, and not afraid to do whatever it takes for something. Sophie's death weakens it, makes him unsure of himself, and then seeing her come back and the struggle for Richard tempers it, much like a sword. As a child, he thinks he can do anything and it'll be effortless because he's the best; as an adult, he knows he can do anything, but he might have to work hard for it. And he's willing to put in that work, no matter if the task seems impossible - like saving Richard from being consumed by Lambda, a task pretty much everyone else thought was a fool's errand. He's the kind of person who, when someone's in danger, he will immediately rush to protect them without regard for his own safety, such as when one of his fellow students at the Knight Academy gets swept overboard and, while his instructors are discussing what to do, he's already leapt in, saved her, and gotten back out.

His heart also allows him to have an incredible amount of empathy for people. It's an interesting trait in conjunction with his perceptive failures, because it sometimes doesn't allow him to put himself into somebody else's shoes - but when it does, it's a powerful thing, and allows Asbel to sympathize and understand people who are his enemies in a way that nobody else in the group can. It's Asbel who's horrified when Lambda Richard cuts down Cedric even though doing so is somewhat understandable - partially because it seems (and is) out of character for a non-Lambda Richard to do, but partially because even if that were totally normal for Richard to do, Asbel can empathize with other people. It's the same way he does to save Malik, because he understands that Malik genuinely thought he was doing the right thing (and may have been) by rebelling against Richard. And, most importantly, Asbel is able to empathize with Lambda in a way that nobody else - not even Cheria, who's incredibly empathetic herself - can. He's able to understand Lambda's pain, understand *why* Lambda is destroying everything, and understand that Lambda is not inherently evil but a product of its environment - and with that confidence is able to absorb Lambda without letting it control his body, because he doesn't just *think* that Lambda isn't a bad creature; he knows it, fundamentally, the same way a person knows the sun will come up each morning.

More than anything else, though, Asbel believes in the bonds between people. It's most obvious in the way he acts towards Richard and Sophie, the two who he made a friendship pact with on Lhant Hill. Most people might not put stock into a pact made when you were 11, but Asbel takes it very seriously, and still considers Richard a true friend even when he's flying around and absorbing eleth and basically dooming the world. Everyone else's concern (except for Sophie) is "how do we stop Richard"? for a long time; Asbel's concern is "why is he doing this?" and "what's happening to Richard?" Most other people, somewhat understandably, are concerned about the consequences for the world, but Asbel's deeper concern is why, because if Richard's doing this something must be wrong with Richard, and he needs to help his friend -- no matter what.

He views his friendship with Sophie even more seriously than he does with Richard, which is saying a lot considering how much he cares about Richard. Sophie's one of the most important people in the world to him, arguably THE most important, and much of his time is spent making sure that she's okay, making sure that she's learning about the world and that she's safe no matter what. When Sophie gets seriously damaged by Lambda, Asbel's immediate concern is making sure that Sophie is alright and that they fix her no matter what, and the idea that this means going off into space to a world that they know literally nothing about doesn't faze him at all. He would walk barefoot to the ends of the earth if it meant ensuring Sophie was safe, and it's Asbel who completely freaks out when Sophie keeps insisting that she needs to be the one to destroy Lambda, especially after it's revealed that she'd need to die to destroy Lambda. Even before Asbel can empathize with and understand Lambda, he simply won't allow Sophie to destroy Lambda because he won't let her die, no matter what. Seeing her "die" when he was young made him sure, more than anything else in the world, that he'd never, EVER let that happen again.

Family's also a very important aspect to Asbel. After Sophie's death, Hubert gets adopted off to the Oswell family of Strahta, and they don't see each other until Strahta rolls up to Lhant - and their first meeting is, well, awkward considering that Asbel knows basically nothing about what happened (remember: Asbel's got like zero perception to things that happen around him) and Hubert regards Asbel as a little shit who abandoned everything selfishly for his stupid dream of becoming a knight (remember: Hubert didn't see Sophie get impaled). They're able to get over their differences, though, and while Asbel probably wouldn't admit it immediately he's very proud of his little brother and how far he's come in Strahta, even if it's sort of Asbel's doing (a key reason in Hubert trying so hard in Strahta being that Hubert thought Asbel was a screwup). He takes other family members seriously too - he cares a lot about his mother, even if he does get tired of things like her telling him to get married until he finally acknowledges he's gonna marry Cheria and have like five billion babies, and goes out of his way to help her. He also holds his late father in high regard too, and many of his decisions in Lhant are made with the thought of "What would Dad do?" He realizes what a little shit he was when he was a kid, and understands as an adult that his father was trying to do what was right, and understands that as lords go, Aston was pretty damn good at the whole lord thing.

It's not just his own biological family that Asbel cares about, but the family he's going to have, too. Asbel actually formally adopts Sophie as his daughter and, even prior to that, was basically treating her like a combination of daughter and younger sister. It's pretty clear that the bond they have is something beyond just friendship, and it's important to him to make a place for her in his life beyond just friend. And of course, there's his relationship with Cheria - while it's never directly stated by either Asbel or Cheria in game, by the end of the game it's pretty well understood that Cheria is functioning as the mother to Asbel's father for Sophie. It's certainly the way Sophie sees it, saying so directly more than once during the game, and while it takes him forever and a day to figure it out, Cheria's the other priority in his life and he sees her as family - not as a sister, like he (stupidly) implies in one of his victory quotes, but as a wife.

And Asbel, unlike a lot of other people, bonds very quickly. He makes some decisions that may seem sort of foolish at the time, but Asbel just generally believes that people are good, or that when they're not good, there's a reason they're not good; that people aren't just Inherently Evil. People can do bad things, but it's rare that he rarely sees them as just inherently bad; even Emeraude, who is pretty objectively an awful person, Asbel empathizes with because he understands that there were reasons for the decisions she made, even if he completely disagrees with her methods. This is most of the reason that Pascal and Malik are in the group; with Malik it's more understandable, given that Malik was Asbel's instructor for that seven-year span between Sophie's death and the start of the main story, but Pascal is literally just "some weird girl who offers to help them out" and Asbel's just like Oh! Sure! You can come along! And keep coming along! Hubert points out how dumb this is, and he's probably right in an objective sense, but Asbel's feeling that people are fundamentally good isn't swayed by Hubert's logical arguments.

Asbel is a hero. He's not the most perceptive hero and if he had to do the heroing on his own, he'd be looking for clues while the apocalypse was happening. But he's brave - the only thing he fears are his own self-doubts - and he's kind, even if he's sometimes accidentially an asshole (because of his poor perception.) He'll protect the weak and defend those who need it, and he'll go even further than seems possible for those who cares about as friends and family. He empathizes with pretty much everyone that he can, and even if he doesn't immediately do so, has shown he's very capable of understanding other people's pain and suffering and why they do what they do. He doesn't believe in evil; he believes in "people who are misguided". He might have his issues, but ultimately, he just wants everyone to be safe, and happy, and for there to be peace - no matter what it costs him, or what he has to do to ensure it, and we get to see him grow from "arrogant little shit" to "oblivious protector of all".

Personality:
Boiled down to a just a few words, Cheria is kind and nurturing. Even at the age of eleven, this much is quite evident; when they were kids, she looked after Hubert and Asbel and did her best to keep them out of trouble. Of course, that is a very difficult task, when it comes to Asbel Lhant; there was no reining him in, the little shit. And it speaks volumes for her character that she cares for them as much as she did, as she herself was very ill as a child and needed to be taken care of more than anyone else. As Sophie puts it later, "Cheria was sick... but that didn't stop her from being cheerful and friendly." And her childhood was pretty sad: Asbel would constantly leave her behind because she was sickly, and even though his intentions were good, it still hurt her to be left out all the time. And then, after she finally gets to be friends with four other kids and hang out with them and be a normal kid, Sophie has to sacrifice herself to save their lives. After that, she can't see Richard because he's a prince, and Hubert gets sent away to be adopted by the Oswells, which leaves just her and Asbel — who then runs away and leaves Lhant to become a knight, leaving her all alone for seven years.

And even after those lonely seven years, she doesn't change very much. The cheerful and friendly aspect of her character fizzles for a little bit, because she's bitter about Asbel abandoning her, but once they make amends, she bounces right back to the same girl she'd always been. She completely embraces the role of Team Mom, taking care to prepare meals for everyone and make sure they're eating right and taking care of themselves — she even goes as far as reminding Sophie and Pascal to bathe and brush their teeth. She does her best to keep things running smoothly, both in practical matters like keeping the group's inventory organized, and in personal issues as well, acting as something akin to the group mediator and making sure everyone is happy and getting along. This, in addition to her occasionally short temper, causes her to come across as something of a nag, but it's still rather obvious that she cares for her friends and their well-being. She just doesn't take anyone's shit. Sophie, especially, receives this motherly treatment, as Cheria is essentially the mother to Asbel's father. She's more than happy to take on this role; she even gets all giggly and happy when Asbel refers to her as "Mom." But it's not just because of her relationship with Asbel that she acts as Sophie's parent — she really, genuinely cares for her like a daughter, expressing that she would happily stay on Fodra if it meant that she would be healthy again. If it's a question of priorities, her main priority is Sophie, period.

So it's safe to say that family is very, very important to her. After losing her parents at a young age, she cares a lot for the family that she has left — her grandfather, especially, and her friends. The idea of "friends are the family you choose" is especially poignant to her, all things considered. It's not just her companions that she tends to, however. Since discovering her healing powers, she's dedicated herself to helping anyone and everyone she can, completely without bias. No matter what, she will not hesitate to help a person in need. Although Raymond had her abducted in order to blackmail Asbel, when he stabs himself later, she immediately sets about healing him without so much batting an eye. It doesn't matter what he did to her; he needed her help, so she gave it. Selflessness is the name of her game: everyone else's feelings and well-being are always, always prioritized before her own.

Though many see her as an ~angel~, due to her healing skills and gentle personality, Cheria is far from perfect, of course. She's insecure. She is seen fretting over her weight and her hair on multiple occasions, seeking validation from others and quietly freaking out when her hair gets frizzy or she thinks that she might be gaining weight. It's not just her appearance that she worries about, though, but also her feelings. Especially her feelings about Asbel. Even though everyone else in the party (aside from the man himself, for a good, long while, because Asbel is Asbel) knows that she's in love with him, she vehemently denies it whenever the issue is brought up and gets really flustered. In Strahta, when they all lick the salt to find out who among them is a liar, she quietly freaks out when it tastes sweet to her and awkwardly tries to change the subject. No one must ever know the truth!! And it's not just because she's embarrassed that she hides her feelings, but also because she can't tell how Asbel feels about her, even though everyone else can, because they're both kind of stupid about this. That doesn't make her love him any less, but she continues to try and bury her feelings (even though she's not subtle about it at all), rather than risk ruining their friendship or distracting herself from more important things. They're on a mission to save the world, after all, and as selfish as it makes her feel, she has still has things she wants to do (specifically, her relief work) before she settles down.

Even though she's not very good about Asbel's feelings or her own, she is still pretty perceptive. On their way to the Fendel heat cannon, she notices that Malik missed a spot shaving and concludes that he must be nervous. She can also be very sympathetic — she and Asbel, for instance, are the only ones who sympathize with Emeraude and her wish to restore life to Fodra, despite the fact that she did some pretty terrible things. She'd been forced into doing those things because it was an awful situation all around, which, to them, is a pitiful thing. In addition to being observant to others' feelings, she's also very careful about them. When Hubert suggests that their team should include himself, Cheria, and Asbel when they're fighting monsters (because the light they possess is the most effective against them), Cheria wants to keep that a secret so as not to hurt or offend the others.

And her insecurity isn't just worrying about the way others perceive her, but the fact that she has very high expectations of herself. After being sick for her entire childhood, and then receiving a Miracle Cure thanks to Sophie, she's determined to become stronger and make up for the fact she was never able to do anything before. She pushes herself past her limits, to the point that she ignores her own well-being — when she falls ill with a cold, she stubbornly brushes it off and tells herself to be strong, because there's so much to do!

Near the end of the future arc, Lambda tells her that "few know the preciousness of life as [she does]," and it is a startingly accurate summation of her character. While she derives a lot of happiness from helping people in need, she would happily give it all up and lose her job with the relief organization if it meant that things were peaceful again, because she cares for other people above all else. Not just her friends, although she depends on them a lot and derives her strength from them, but literally everyone. It's this kindness and selflessness that not only make her a perfect match for Asbel, but a truly angelic figure in the midst of the war and strife that Ephinea suffers.

Personality:
If there's a constant that always rings true for Okita Souji, it's that his personality is not one that is easily pinned down or figured out. In meeting him, it's easy to get the impression that he doesn't like you - maybe that he doesn't like anyone. He'll smile with cold, teasing eyes and toss around death threats in the way that most would offer reassurances. While that's true at the very surface, there's so much more that lies beneath.

"If there's someone who decides fate, he must've hated me a lot."

Okita was given his cynicism at a young age, the result of the death of his parents and semi-abandonment of his sister (the result of her getting married and being unable to care for him). And while most would have showed an inkling of sadness as he was left in the hands of Kondou Isami and the Shieikan, Okita remained serious and secluded. Unable to grasp the worth of his own life or existence, he simply didn't care. He claimed he wasn't lonely, that he didn't miss his sister because she abandoned him. This event in and of itself caused Souji to close his heart off to others, going as far as to believe he wasn't good-natured enough to believe in a sister that deserted him. No, he quickly became more interested in proving others around him wrong. So what, his parents died? His sister left? He's in the hands of a man who was a complete idealist and often didn't seem to understand the ramifications of his actions when dealing with children? The other pupils of the Shieikan bully him?

None of that matters. Not in the typical sense, to Souji. He had one need, and that was to prove that he wasn't just some pathetic or pitiable kid. He didn't want or need that in the slightest - at least, that was what he thought. So in addition to the training he was receiving at the Shieikan, he let the kids hit him - he did it to learn their moves, to learn how to dodge, avoid, and strike back in a way that would prove that he didn't need their pity, nor their praise. Just to prove that he was capable all on his own. When he did so - during a practice match with the older pupils... that was the beginning of Souji's transformation. Kondou proved to Souji at that time that his warmth wasn't just words said to appease him, but a genuine feeling of affection. He'd never experienced that for Kondou at all, and it opened his eyes to a purpose for his life. He wanted to see Kondou happy. He wanted to exist to protect him, to be useful to him.

Souji's love and devotion to Kondou is completely unparalleled in every sense of the word. From that point in his childhood until Kondou's death many years later, nobody was to speak ill of Kondou in his presence. Really, his feelings border on yandere a lot of the time. The first person he killed was someone in their ranks, who'd planned to kill Kondou. He bloodied his hands for that sake, and did so with no regrets. Even in later times, he went as far as making a child cry after they insulted Kondou (this is not the only reason for this particular situation, however). There is absolutely nobody more important in Souji's life than Kondou, and he has no issue in expressing how important his commander and older brother figure truly is.

”There are things more fearsome than killing... such as not being needed by anyone."

It's the very human aspect of things in life that Souji has the most difficult time grasping. Growing up when peaceful times were coming to an end, living in a dojo, and being around violence on a near constant basis jaded him further on top of his mounting cynicism. Not only was he protected and watched by Kondou, but also by Kondou's right-hand, Hijikata Toshizou. This isn't without its merits, but caused many problems for Souji; Hijikata's tendency to be firm in conjunction with his protectiveness was stifling to Souji. Combine that with how much Kondou relied on Hijikata, and Souji could feel very little else but jealousy.

Having worth and purpose is not something Souji has an easy time with. If he couldn't be useful to Kondou, what use was he at all? As things grew and changed, relationships shifted and Souji was left with a deep loneliness that he hid from the world. It was easy enough for him to mask: flippant attitudes, a lot of teasing (bordering on sadistic at times -- such as forcing Nagakura to drink way too much in order to get a confession out of him). It was hard to get a grasp on what he was thinking or feelings, which was how he liked it. At the beginning of his time with the Roshigumi, though, his feelings and displaced beliefs began to spill over. His jealousy of Hijikata's relationship with Kondou often ended in vitriolic words (all laced with a smile, of course). He had his outbursts, his desire to be needed. He even allowed Serizawa Kamo manipulate him a bit in order to ultimately get what he wanted — the opportunity to kill and be useful to Kondou. But once Souji made his first kill, it was as if he'd lost his sense of humanity. His understanding of the value of human life isn't one that comes easily. After an incident involving a group of insulting sumo wrestlers (in which he and Serizawa fought, while the others tried to avoid bloodshed), Souji couldn't understand at first what he'd done wrong. Kondou reprimanding him intensely left him completely bewildered.

So much so that he felt that his only way to make up for what he'd done with involve committing seppuku. He'd messed up, he believed - violated the code of Bushido, disgraced the Roshigumi. Everything was wrong, but he still didn't really have an understanding - even if he began to grasp of other's lives, he didn't see the value in his own. Laden with self-deprecation, he still wasn't sure what his purpose in life was. The entirety of his time before the formation of the Shinsengumi was riddled with Souji's troubles.

"If you try to escape, we'll kill you."

By the time Chizuru comes to live with the Shinsengumi, it seems more as if Okita has found his place. His rebellious recklessness has calmed into something more controlled. His heart is still very closed off to others, but he seems to have a better sense of self and the value of life around him. It doesn't stop him from killing, though only when necessary -- however, he's very quick to make jokes regarding killing, which is easy to perceive as a lack of appreciation for life. He does this as commonly as Chizuru, maybe even more so than he did with Ibuki; it reaches a point where even Chizuru knows that what he's saying is in jest.

Despite this, his relationship with all of the Shinsengumi members is very distinct. There is a deep trust that he has with his comrades. For all of his jealousy of Hijikata (which comes out in his pleasant-sounding but venomous words very often -- "Isn't that your job as the demon commander?" and other similar statements), they are nothing short of being just like brothers. Only in a relationship like that can Souji recite all of Hijikata's terrible haiku (which he memorized) and live to see another day. Kondou is always on a pedestal for Souji, which never changes. Even Saitou isn't immune to Souji's influence. They're often seen together, whether it's practicing in the courtyard, cooking, or caring for injured cats named after their commander (courtesy of Souji, of course); even the way they can fight in unison on patrol together is very telling of the bond they share. His bond with Nagakura, Harada and Heisuke isn't as prevalent - though there is plenty of teasing and ribbing that goes on amongst them, and they all worry for each other when one is injured.

There are also the two other big players in his relationship with others: Cats and children. During his time in the Shinsengumi, namely at the Yagi house, Souji would often play with the neighborhood children (including Yagi's sons). There were times he'd pay less attention to his own duties so he could play hide-and-seek (much to the chagrin of Sannan and Hijikata both). In a time of bloody war and massacre, he seems to get great joy out of playing the role of "Sou-chan," the not-so-scary guy that can give the kids a fun time. It's not until he gets sick that he acts unnecessarily cruel (much in the way he may act towards 一 of his fellow Shinsengumi captains) as a means to try and push them away. After a particularly cruel moment, a child runs away crying: while he explains to Chizuru it's because they were disrespecting Kondou, he also mumbles out that "at least they won't come here anymore," almost as if he was protecting them from the increasingly dangerous headquarters as well as his highly infectious disease.

Souji can be analytical, namely with the people who are around him. Though he doesn't always understand the politics of their situation - after all, he's more of a loyalist to Kondou than the shogunate when it comes down to it - he can read people very well. Like the others in the Shinsengumi, he didn't like Itou, he never truly forgave Serizawa for his treatment and disrespect of Kondou, and every encounter with Nagumo Kaoru left him cautious. He's more interested in the fight than the result, and he's always willing to put his life on the line to fight for what he does believe in.

"Whether my life is long or short, there are only a few things I can do. To kill those who oppose the Shinsengumi is all I want to do. Especially if I'm dying. Should I spend the time I have doing that?"

Never giving up on those principles is something that is consistent for Souji. After being diagnosed with tuberculosis, he still refused to give up, despite knowing he was just given a death sentence. He vehemently opposed leaving the Shinsengumi, stating outright that his life has no purpose without fighting for and alongside the Shinsengumi. So long as he could stand - so long as he could wield a sword, he would fight. He'd say it over and over, even after hacking a lung up full of blood. "I can still fight." Giving in to disease was not an option, nor was telling anyone else. When Chizuru overheard, he immediately called her out to establish two things: That he wouldn't give in, and not to tell the others. That desire to not be pitied still lingered from his childhood in every respect. He went as far as trying to laugh off his disease as a joke in order to prevent her from worrying.

Even when he wasn't being pitied, he still felt as if he was being left behind, though. Those feelings from a few years earlier were resurfacing as his ability to fight rapidly diminished. But his will, his desire to fight, to live for his cause couldn't be stopped. When things got bad, he could barely stand, let alone hold a sword... and that was when he had to make a decision. It was either give up - be killed by a fight he couldn't win and let the disease kill him, or become a monster to protect the things that were important to him (which included not only the Shinsengumi, but now Chizuru as well, who'd become part of their ranks over the course of time unofficially). With the promise his tuberculosis would be cured, he drank the Ochimizu - a liquid that could turn man in a vampire-demon like creature called a Rasetsu. In doing so, he lost a piece of his humanity. Gaining a lust for blood as his chemical makeup changed was something that altered Okita's personality permanently.

He was able to stand and fight again, even coughing less -- though it did not actually cure his tuberculosis, which would slowly kill him alongside the power of the Rasetsu, which draws from one's life force in order to give extra power, endurance and heightened healing. He didn't think it mattered though: He was longer human. He was a monster. Prior to this, he'd told Chizuru not to be involved with him; Souji knew all along about his own instabilities, insecurity, and true lack of a decent moral compass made him a bad person to be around. Or so he thought. But the one thing even Souji couldn't predict was how Chizuru would crawl into his heart and change everything.

"This feeling... It feels like my heart's about to break, but... I'm happy?"

Cracking Souji's shell and getting into his heart is difficult. The aforementioned need to push people away, to prove people by his own means and find himself is something that's hard to get past. He's stubborn, he's an asshole, he's full of snark and he will absolutely not hesitate to troll you if the opportunity arises. Even when someone starts to crack the surface, he can't really stop the cocky statements ("You're saying I'm so damn good-looking that you've gone and fallen in love?"). But what it all boils down to is that Okita Souji needs someone or something to protect. Those who make their way into his heart will get nothing but determination and loyalty from him.

If taking his lover's route, this is plainly obvious. He goes through absolutely every length he can to stay with Chizuru and protect her. But what's more surprising that that is the revelation of how gentle his heart is underneath that cold, uninterested exterior. Everything from his means of protecting her to the way he holds her and confesses his feelings proves that in the big scheme of things, the one thing Souji really needed in his life was someone who could see through him. Kondou and Hijikata, while both caring with their best intent, never saw eye-to-eye with him on certain things. They never understood how deep his feelings were and how his intentions affected his every last action. Chizuru never fell for it, though. She pushed him to his limits, forcing him to understand himself and in turn allow her to understand him as well.

And really, for a guy with so much blood on his hands, for having a reputation of being of of those most vicious guys in the Shinsengumi, he's a real softy underneath it all. Fully knowing his time with Chizuru was limited to the remainder of his life force, he gave up fighting and left with her to be in a place where they could live peacefully. "I love you so much. So you’ve gotta believe this next part…Even if we get separated someday, my heart will always belong to you." What a sap. Though his canon point will not necessarily reflect this softer side of him, it still lies there, waiting for the right moment to be revealed.

Character Name: Mikan Tsumiki.
Canon: Super Dangan Ronpa 2 (Dangan Ronpa).
Canon Point: The end of Chapter 3, right after the trial!
Background/History: This is a wiki page on Mikan, herself./This is a wiki page on the game's background (both of these links contain MAJOR Super Dangan Ronpa 2 spoilers)!
Personality: Generally speaking, Mikan is very clumsy, fragile, and timid. Some mistake this for social anxiety, and though there is slight evidence of this in her personality, such as her perpetual self-loathing, absence of respect and pride for her body, and stuttering problem, her character mostly consists of constant apologies for pointless things that she never did wrong including "insolence," "rambling", and being too "straightforward." A key factor of how she came to be so flighty and frightened is her past.

Mikan not only had an abusive home life, but she has also mentioned that out in public others would kick her, slather mud on her, pour water on her, and even give her cigarette burns. She was basically alone; she didn't have any friends or family that were anything near nice to her. She wished to be liked so badly that she began to abuse herself for others' satisfaction.

❝To lift up the atmosphere, I would eat strange bugs; when people had no paper to write on, they’d write on my body; when borrowing money, they'd make several liabilities. I was also a dart board for their boredom... You see, I can be of help too!❞

She offers to strip her clothes for Hinata on multiple occasions when she believes he's bored or angry with her. This distorted mentality also comes from people degrading and treating her so horribly. Eventually, this act became normal and expected even from people whose intentions were not to hurt her. She states that even though she doesn't enjoy performing these stunts, she feels she has to in order to earn everybody's happiness and kindness towards her.

When she was young, nobody was there to treat the physical wounds that people gave to her on a daily basis, and so Mikan had to do it all on her own and eventually became a super high school level nurse. She cured solely for the purpose of her own injuries, but as she advanced in the medical field, she came to realize that those who were sick and ill depended on her and would actually listen to her. She was the only person who could help them. Finally, Mikan had the attention she so desperately craved.

❝If you just leave an ill or injured person alone then they will not be able to bear the pain, and if things went wrong they could die. That’s why, only the words of someone who knows the proper prescription are absolute. That is… that’s how it is?❞

Although she is seen to be consistently scared and self-conscious, it is possible for Mikan to warm up to someone, as this can be seen after generous amounts of trying to convince her that Hinata isn't going to treat her the way people in her past did all the while taking baby steps to show her that she matters. Her mindset, in terms of her severe lack of confidence, will most likely continue to live on regardless of how much support she receives.
Abilities/Powers: Mikan Tsumiki is a Super High School Level Nurse; she deals with medicine and treating physical wounds exceptionally well, and for such a young age (18), too.

She's very knowledged on these subjects, as can be proven by her random outbursts of medical-speak and the risks of injury and illness.
Items/Weapons: A box of bandages, her favorite pair of panties (I am so sorry), and a syringe filled with the flu vaccine.

Sample Entry: This is a game post of Mikan's arrival, with a thread of thirteen tags on her part!
Sample Entry Two: She doesn't really know why she's so surprised. This is the second time something so absurd has happened; being whisked away from the familiarity of her home and carried off to some discreet, unheard of pocket of the world... In fact, it felt like only yesterday she was brainwashed into a school life of mutual killing with her classmates.

If that was the case, shouldn't she be glad that she's been swept into a new world yet again? This place, Haven, is different; Haven is not the kind of place Mikan Tsumiki is used to. She tries to tell herself this is a good thing. Greener pastures lie ahead of her; there's nothing to worry about anymore. There's no more extreme risk of death. The sign says it's safe, right? Right. If that's the case, then why does she feel so... creeped out? This place is freaky - it's rustic and old and that sign right outside of her window is really beginning to make her more uncomfortable rather than safe. She feels bad anyway, though. Everyone on the island could still be there... waiting for their deaths.

At the very least, she won't have to worry about anybody being murdered anymore. Maybe. She's not too sure yet, this place doesn't look all that trustworthy.

Mikan squeezes her fists tight together. A thought hits her like a brick through a glass window. Maybe her friends are all here. That would certainly make sense, right? It can't just be her. It shouldn't be. It's not. Regaining a tiny sliver of hope, she meekly takes the recorder that was given to her and nervously turns it on.

"H-Hello! I'm Mikan Tsumiki. . ."

[personal profile] watchyafeet 2013-10-11 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Labrys, while under the belief that she is "Miss President," has the personality of someone who takes her position in school very seriously. She is shown to be strict, speaks roughly with her Kansai accent (localized as a Jersey accent) and is not afraid to scold others for misbehavior. Despite the dangers of the P-1 Grand Prix, she does not back down from trying to stop the tournament, despite the many attempts on her life by the Fake Teddie and Fake Rise. She is very spirited, which increases her sense of responsibility for keeping order in the school, shown how she goes ahead to confront General Teddie upon discovering that he may be her Shadow in disguise, despite Yu and the others advising her against it. She doesn't seem to be bothered by resorting to violence if it's self-defense, claiming that she's "no slouch in a fight."

Despite this, she is also very confused and troubled. This is due to her realizing that she doesn't have any memories about herself, and doesn't even remember her own name. This terrifies her, as it makes her doubt her beliefs of being the Student Council President, which she subconsciously does not want to happen. Sometimes, when she comes close to remembering her identity, she completely panics and begins to act erratically, sometimes running off somewhere by herself.

This brings us to a major point of Labrys's true personality: She wants to run away from her past. She willingly allows herself to have her memories suppressed by her captors, and embraces her fabricated past as a normal student. This desire to become normal stems from her memories of the personality she's based on: A girl in the Kansai region who is too sickly to go to school, and wants to become Student Council President if she were able to attend. Labrys finds this interesting, especially when shown a normal school life by her unknown captors while she is lying dormant in her crate. In order to have the happy life she could never have, she forgets her trauma and all things associated with it.

Despite the suppressed memories, Labrys still has not quite gotten over her past of killing many of her sister units during the testing phases in Yakushima. She sees her sister units as friends, and though she continues deactivating them on command, it is clear that she becomes gradually uncomfortable with the situation. This is apparent due to the setting of her TV World dungeon which reflects her subconscious, where Yu and the rest of the Investigation Team are forced to fight each other to advance. Her subconscious self-loathing from this matter is also hinted at, due to General Teddie and Fake Rise (both revealed to be her Shadow) constantly trying to attack her with props and saying that she should just die.

It is shown that Labrys has a strong sense of compassion. As her personality began to manifest itself, she goes from a cold killing machine that messily destroys other units to a reluctant fighter that tries to disable the other Anti-Shadow Weapons with the least damage possible. It gets to the point when she pleads with the scientists testing her to stop making her fight and deactivate her sister units. Even as "Miss President," Labrys shows concern about her fellow students being hurt in the Grand Prix.

She also believes in returning favors. In her own words, "You got my back, now it's my turn to get yours." This concept is what drives her to put her utmost effort in maintaining order in the fabricated school. Even if she doesn't see the student council president as being anyone special, she thinks that she should do her best in the job because the students elected her, so she should work to repay the favor and meet their expectations.

Labrys's true desire is to be normal and understood, which are the main factors leading her to her current situation. She is envious of humans and wishes to be one, which causes her to suppress her memories in order to pursue this happiness. Her desire to be understood by others is due to the researchers in the lab not willing to understand her and her sisters, and consequently the researchers treated them like objects. Labrys wants to be understood so that she can be treated as a person. However, she feels that this is an impossibility, hence why her Shadow twists it into having Yu and his friends fight each other so they can "understand".

Due to her abusive past, Labrys—once her memories are awakened—becomes self-conscious around humans. She is shy and hesitant to communicate with them, and worries about being judged for being different. She has the tendency to hide behind people she's comfortable with when meeting someone new. As "Miss President", she has no such insecurity. After all, she's human so why is there any need to worry?

Despite having almost encyclopedic knowledge about the world, Labrys is a highly curious person due to her isolated on Yakushima Island's lab. She bears an almost childlike interest in things that catch her attention, like jumping through a TV or running through a department store. She retains this curiosity at a subconscious level as "Miss President", and will flatly deny acting as such.

tl;dr: Sad robot who wants to be normal, and now thinks is normal. +100 in Spunkiness due to this.
Abilities/Powers: Labrys is a human-like robot that has many functions, such as...

Illusion: Labrys is said to be equipped with the ability to affect sight, touch, and sound. This isn't limited to just others, and has been used in combination with trauma-induced amnesia to fool herself into thinking that she is a normal human girl and the Student Council President of Yasogami High School. This illusion will persist during her stay in Haven... until something breaks it. Like cruel and possibly tech-savvy/illusion-breaking people. :| It seems like this system can also be hijacked and used by others through hacking into her systems. Also, due to her aforementioned condition, she is unable to use the following abilities for the time being:

Axe: Due to her regulatory system being inadequate to store firearms and ammo, Labrys is equipped with a large collapsible axe to fight up close. The axe is augmented with jet propulsion, which increases its swinging power. It also allows for Labrys to fly when it's attached to her back. The more she attacks with her axe, the stronger its power output becomes, indicated by the color of the jet's exhaustion. If she doesn't attack for a while or she is hit, the axe's power output lowers. She can also charge her axe to activate unblockable attacks, but they are easy to avoid and leave her highly vulnerable.

Chain Knuckle: Labrys also has a sort of "rocket punch" function, with her wrist being tethered to her arm by a chain, allowing her to reel herself in to get in close.

Ariadne: Labrys has the power of a Persona, the manifestation of her personality which gives her access to special abilities. Ariadne uses formations of red string to attack or snare opponents. Even if her illusion breaks, she won't have access to her Persona until she awakens it through large mental stress or accepting the aspect she wants to keep hidden most.

However, since her appearance is merely an illusion, she still retains superhuman strength and endurance due to her body being completely mechanized. Hulk smash!

Items/Weapons: Double-sided Axe (hidden for time being), Yasogami uniform, the STUDENT COUNCIL WHISTLE OF OBEDIENCE!
