Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:

Sample Entry: [Terra's never owned a proper cell phone before, but it's not as though they're hard to figure out. In no time at all, she's got the video function set up and she's ready to address Haven at large.]

Uh...hi.

[That's how you start these things off, right?]

So, a lot of you have already told me what's going on here, and I appreciate it! I really do. But I had one more question, so I gotta ask--

[The video flies around for a second as she...what is she doing? Well, she wanted to hold up the phone as a demonstration, forgetting completely that she is currently using it to communicate with the town. Once she realizes that's not going to work, the video stabilizes as she puts the phone back where it was.]

Whoops--! I'm not used to using these things. Sorry.

Anyway, my question is, why bother giving us phones at all? If we're really trapped here with no hope of escaping or whatever, shouldn't we not have phones so we can be as super-miserable as possible?

Plus, aren't cell phones supposed to be really expensive? Seems like a waste of money if you ask me...

[She doesn't realize you can get crappy phones like this for five bucks at a pawn shop.]

It probably sounds like a really weird question, but I was just kinda curious.

Sample Entry Two: She required a rock to leave the harbor island on which Titans Tower sat, but she ditched it shortly afterwards and began running instead. With how upset and miserable she was, using her powers for too long was dangerous. At least, even in her current state of confusion, she still had enough self-awareness to realize that. At least she could still protect herself that way.

Running does a lot to clear her mind, especially on this warm and clear night. Soon she's feeling less anxious and more focused. First, she has to crash somewhere for the night. She can't keep running aimlessly (as far from them, as far from him as possible) until her legs give out. Once she's found shelter, she can figure out where to go from here -- either out of Jump City and into some other town where no one knows her, or...

Or she could find Slade. The only person who could help her.

Terra finds a cave on the other side of the ridge outside of the city. It seems really familiar... Ah, that's it. This is the cave she slept in two nights ago, right before she'd run into that scorpion (and the Titans)

don't think about them

She crouches to get into the cave, whose entrance is only about three feet tall but which opens up once you get in. The light from the moon doesn't reach in, so she flicks her flashlight on and finds the area she'd slept on previously. It wouldn't be particularly comfortable for a normal person, but Terra's never really had trouble falling asleep on hard ground, and even if she had at first, she's used to it by now.

Her initial anger is gone, replaced by the familiar feeling of guilt, of running away. Maybe she hadn't caused a disaster this time around, but it still feels like she's destroyed something important. It's the same feeling as all the other running-aways. And that's why she can't go back. She's never gone back to a place she's damaged, and she can't go back to the Titans. The only way to go now is forward.

She has to find Slade.
