Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE
We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.
In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.
While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

Keith Anyan | Toward the Terra | re-app
Contact Info: PM;
Other Characters Played: Ganymede | Olympos
Preferred Apartment: #1.002 (his previous apartment)
Character Name: Keith Anyan
Canon: Toward the Terra (2007 anime series)
Canon Point: end of episode 9
Background/History: Toward the Terra doesn't have a wiki or any really comprehensive online information so I wrote my own history. Again. Because obscure canons.
Personality: Keith Anyan is confused - he is a well-educated and intelligent child learning to navigate the complexities of social interaction, trying to find a way to integrate his own personality with the destiny that he is meant to pursue and to understand the way the people around him function. A leader by nature, he is struggling to find the balance between who and what he is.
Keith was created to be an intelligent leader that humans can put their trust in, and he certainly has proven himself in these areas. He is very smart, excelling in both classwork and practical application of what he's learned, and he has the confidence in his capabilities and knowledge to take the lead in stressful situations. Everything about Keith is efficient. He performs well, makes well-informed decisions quickly, and has the capacity to follow through on the decisions he's made. Adaptable, he reads new situations quickly and accurately, which allows him to make logical decisions that he handles with a detached seriousness that generally leads to success. He rarely makes mistakes when it comes to classwork, and is admired by his teachers and peers for his intelligence and skill. Even when teased because of how strangely serious he is and how obvious it is that he processes things differently from those around him, Keith is always quick to respond with something sharp and witty that makes it clear that he may be different, but he is superior.
Keith's self-confidence may, in some ways, be his greatest flaw. He is generally admired by peers and, more importantly, his teachers and the computer system that runs E-1077. Rarely receiving negative feedback aside from Shiroe, Keith operates in his own little world in which he is always right, and even when he questions himself, he is told that what he decides is for the best. He is spoiled in the worst way possible, and, believing himself intelligent and correct enough to know what's best, he has become a bit gullible, never questioning whether the system that raised him is operating for what is best. In fact, he frequently crushes his own will under that of Mother Eliza, who leads him towards decisions and then rewards him for doing as she asks. Without this system of leadership in place, without the soothing reassurance and encouragement to abandon his doubts, Keith will likely be consumed by them, questioning everything and seeking answers in other places, while remaining unwilling to take those answers at first, since they are not from the source he's used to.
Which leads to the main crux of Keith's personality. For all that he projects a composed, cold persona, to the point that he is frequently referred to as a robot or automaton, he is still a human being, and however much he might prefer not to have emotions, they do still exist in him. Keith is aware, on a very deep level, that he is not the same as the people around him, and this is something that troubles him deeply. While he has education, understanding, and maturity even beyond the what he should as the 18-year-old boy he appears to be, emotionally and socially he is heavily stunted. He doesn't understand the emotions of others, and frequently misses subtle social cues. He processes the world around him in a logical way, and frequently becomes confused and disoriented when things like social interactions or the emotional responses of people to the things he says or does don't conform to that logical parsing. He is intelligent enough to fake it, but more often than not his cold composure and witty comebacks are more a mask or shield to hide his confusion behind.
Alienated from the rest of humanity, then, Keith is susceptible to suggestion, confused, and almost constantly overwhelmed when faced with anything to do with emotions, or anything that contradicts what he's been told. Constantly put off-guard by his own feelings, and those of the people around him, he is a boy who could easily veer off-course when out from under the thumb of Mother Eliza.
Abilities/Powers:
Keith is a talented student with a high level of general education, and a specialty in subjects related to piloting, living and working in space, and leadership and command. He is shown to be capable of high level first aid including use of syringes and various types of medication including sedatives and other medicines for treatment of injury.
Keith also has a sort of inborn resistance to mental interference, including mind reading and having his mental processes hijacked by psychics. He isn't completely immune, in that he certainly feels and is aware of the fact that he's being probed or affected, and he is capable of succumbing to high-intensity or artificially enhanced levels of mental interference. While he does eventually become completely closed off to unenhanced psychics, he did require an extensive amount of training in mental shielding to reach that level. However, a good deal of his resistance is inborn, as he is shown to be exempt from, without effort on his part, two separate attempts at having his mind hijacked by one of the more powerful psionics in the series.
Items/Weapons: a first aid kit with the typical items as well as several syringes of medication for common illnesses, a few vials of sedative, and painkillers; a blue 'weeping mouse' stuffed animal
Sample Entry:
[Keith's face is expressionless, serious, when he engages the video feed - he might be new to this place, but he looks completely calm, composed, and focused. His mouth is set in a a straight line, but he doesn't look angry. He exhales softly, his eyes closing for a moment, the first sign of any kind of humanity, and then clears his throat.]
My name is Keith Anyan. I've arrived very recently and I require information, or at least the methods of gathering this information myself.
[He exhales.]
I imagine whether or not we can leave easily has been addressed by the other occupants, but I'd like to ask what's been done, to this point, to accomplish that, and whether any headway at all has been made.
[A pause.]
Also, if anyone here has heard from someone by the name of Sam Houston, I would like to know. I don't imagine he'd be here, but the mechanics of this place are still unfamiliar, so there is a possibility.
(I'll also throw in a link to Keith and Shiroe on the train to the afterlife meme if you'd like to see how he has a mental breakdown!)
Sample Entry Two:
Keith's eyes flicked open at the sound of the alarm clock, a shrill buzzing he was unaccustomed to, and immediately he was on edge, every sense at alert. He took stock of the room around him, unfamiliar and simple, plain, very different from the rooms he was used to waking up in - his own, dark and comfortable with the soothing movement of fish, or the bed with Mother Eliza, bright and soothing. This room was utilitarian, just as Shiroe had accused his room of being.
Shiroe.
Abruptly, everything that had happened before he woke up here came tumbling back into his mind, and his chest rose and fell heavily. His cheek still felt tight with the residue of drying tears, and he lifted his hand as he sat up, pale eyes flicking around the room suspiciously as he took stock of it, tried to work out where he was and why he might have been moved. Why he'd fallen asleep, when he'd been piloting a ship, when there had been too many things to do on the station, to return it to normal, to see what the aftermath of that attack would be. It still eluded him why he was the only one to keep his memories of those attacks, why he was the only one unaffected, his differentness made obvious, unsettling - and yet he wouldn't have chosen to find his memories altered as those of the people around him had been.
But Shiroe.
He tried to push the thought of the boy's helpless babbling out of his mind, tried not to think about the thing he had just done, his heart racing and breath too fast, too shallow as he tried to process it. He needed a visit with Mother Eliza, he needed to focus on understanding where he was and how to get out, so he could return to the place he'd come from, and sort this out. He closed his eyes for a moment, trying to put those babbles out of his mind, that moment in which his heart had stopped as he was asked to shoot the boy down, the moment in which he had chosen to follow that order, out of his mind. It was immaterial at the moment, there was no purpose, his goal had changed.
He had to focus. It was difficult, but he opened his eyes, turned his head to take in a sweeping look at the space around him. It wasn't time to be distracted by emotions, by whether or not he should have them. No. Now was a time for action.
Turning, he pulled himself out of the bed, smoothed his hands down the front of his uniform, and walked briskly toward the door.
