Applications

APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The next processing date is Friday 11th October

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.

Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

Abilities/Powers:
Following the events of Old World Blues, the Courier became a cybernetically augmented human! What does this mean exactly? Well, for one- she does not have a spine or a heart as both were replaced by advanced technology. Because of this, she is slightly stronger than a normal human but not by much! She can just carry rather heavy things without a whole lot of trouble, which is good when you're a post-apocalyptic hoarder. She is also immune to poisons, thanks to her artificial heart and filters inside the heart allow for healing items to function at a higher level. She heals from wounds a little faster, basically.

She is also proficient at using, maintaining and repairing most firearms that fire standard ammunition which means that energy weapons need not apply. Creating ammunition is also something she has found herself surprisingly good at, along with a number of survival skills that simply come from living in the world she lives in.

Items/Weapons:
× Her hand-me-down Pip-Boy 3000; though with no text appearing, she'll have to fumble around to figure things out
× Elite Riot Gear
× Cowboy Repeater

Sample Entry:
intro from a previous game

Sample Entry Two:
It was sort of being like home, Corey finds herself musing one today as she opens the door of another abandoned building.

"Nah," she thinks as she hits a button on her pip-boy, the small device's screen illuminating much more brilliantly and filling up some of the darkness of the room. "It's just like home."

It brought on another series of thoughts, ones of the aforementioned home. They could just fine without her, she knew. Everyone had their place in the new Independent Mojave, after all. It had been almost a year now (or had the anniversary already passed her in this place?) since the second battle of Hoover Dam. Corey had never expected things to be easy, her life had taught her that but damn if it had not been like dragging teeth through cacti sometimes and Bighorner droppings sometimes. But as they said back in the days before mutated roaches and nuclear waste: life goes on and it had. Even the people she had come to call companions had found their places. "Better them there, than here." She mutters into silence, turning over an unlabeled can with a frown. "They can all handle not havin' me 'round, not 'round much as is. Least this time I didn't get kidnapped by no brains in jars."

And now that thought brings on others, more than she can help but Corey was never good about not thinking about the past. The past before this one was still blurry after all, the pages still mostly out of focus but better knowing she actually had some memories to stand on.

"Could be worse," the courier speaks, shaking the can now. "After all, least we ain't got be worryin' about radiation or deathclaws here."

Well, maybe, she corrects in silence. After all, all sorts of folks talked about familiar monsters lurking in the subway tunnels. Might be something down there she knew...

"Might be something good to eat."

She smirks, tossing the can aside. Radiation or not, there was just a certain appeal to Wasteland food that this Pre-War nonsense just could not replace. Besides, she might as well make herself useful in this strange new town.

Vaas Montenegro / Far Cry Series / Reserved

[personal profile] overandover 2013-02-15 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Vaas is considered one of the most dangerous people on an island full of murderers, slavers, and drug smugglers – and with good reason. He is extremely aggressive and can go from being calm (well, relatively calm as Vaas is almost always somewhat high-strung) to attempting murder in a few seconds flat. He is quite sadistic and has no remorse for anything he does, taunting his victims and making twisted games out of killing them. Despite not being the strongest person on the island, he occupies a very high rank (second only to Hoyt) because of his skill with weapons and his ruthless, vicious attitude. If anyone angers him, he’ll gladly dispose of them in the most painful way he can think of.

He is very proud, and sees himself as the owner of the island, thus taking any intrusions from tourists and other unwanted visitors as a personal insult – something he uses to justify his actions. He makes it out to be his victims’ fault for thinking they could come and visit his island without permission, even though he has people outside of the island working for him and tricking tourists into going there. While he’s proven his worth in battle, he gets a little overconfident at times, letting Jason run away even though he easily could have shot him on the spot, because a chase would be more amusing and he was certain he would come out victorious either way. He has a very low opinion of most other people and doesn’t really seem to think that they’re capable of anything in comparison to what he can do. He enjoys taking others down a peg and making them feel inferior compared to him and despite his own pride is very critical of arrogance in people who he doesn’t think have earned the right to be proud of themselves.

Aside from Hoyt (who he works for because he provides him with drugs), he doesn’t take orders from anyone and even though Hoyt is above him he still acts like he’s the one in charge. He has a very independent attitude and likes to do whatever he wants even if he’s advised not to. Vaas loves power and doesn’t take any threat to his dominance lightly.

Despite his arrogance, he is also quite paranoid. He felt betrayed by his sister (after having killed someone for her) and as a result doesn’t really trust anyone because if he can’t trust his own family, he doesn’t believe he can trust anyone. He still holds a grudge against her and wants to kill her, and he also taunts hostages whose families don’t come through for them just because he’s so bitter about his own familial relationships. He’s suspicious of people’s motives and gets upset with them if he thinks they’re lying to him or looking at him the wrong way – and often kills them for it. However, despite his trust issues he isn’t actually afraid of most people, even when they have a loaded gun pointed at him and he has nothing, because he doesn’t really care about physical pain and thinks he can take anyone on anyways.

Mentally, he is very unstable and has drastic mood swings, going from happy to upset to angry to joking in a very short time span without much reason for it. He talks a lot, has an erratic manner of speaking, and seems interested in topics of philosophy and morality (despite having basically no moral code himself). Vaas is extremely delusional (despite thinking himself completely sane and getting angry if anyone tries to imply otherwise) and holds odd beliefs about his own capabilities, once even referring to himself as if he were some sort of messianic figure. Despite this, he is often correct and prepared for extremely unlikely situations (such as Jason still being alive multiple times after receiving injuries that would kill most people) which only feeds his delusions of grandeur.

While he usually seems fearless, confident, and unsympathetic to an almost inhuman extent, he has moments of weakness where he is emotionally shaken, usually by unpleasant memories of the past. However, even when everything starts going wrong he still holds the belief that he’ll get through it and everything will go as planned right up until the last possible moment, at which he still seems surprised by his failure. His unawareness of his own weaknesses is occasionally a strength, but was ultimately his undoing.

Abilities/Powers:
Vaas has no supernatural abilities or powers. However, he is a skilled fighter with both long and short range weapons.

Items/Weapons:
-a Kimber Warrior pistol
-extra ammunition
-a hunting knife

Sample Entry:
[He has the phone propped up against a wall and is pacing around.]

What, this thing has no text? What kind of fucking phone can't even text?I call bullshit. What if I prefer to express myself in writing? Use a smiley? If you want to bring me to this shithole you could at least respect my fucking individuality.

Not that a mind a little video project but it's kind of inconsiderate, yeah?

[He raises his hands as if he's trying to calm someone down.]

Alright, alright, I know what you're thinking - you're thinking I deserve this, you're thinking I'm being a gigantic fucking hypocrite right now. But you're wrong. I don't go around kidnapping anyone, I just don't like trespassers. You can do what you want on your own property, right? But where I live it's very lovely and this place is...well, it's shit. It's really terrible.

Did any of you actually want to come here? You have bad taste if you did. No offense, I mean, I'm sure you're all very fine people but if you could tell me how to get away from all of you I'd really appreciate it, okay?

Sample Entry Two:
Vaas leaned back against the wooden walls of the hut, fidgeting with his pistol. He didn’t like to be so idle, but unfortunately at this point in time there wasn’t much else to do but wait. The prisoners were still sleeping – if you could consider being knocked out cold as asleep. He always wondered why people in pain could sleep so well under so much pain. He could barely sleep more than an hour or two at a time under normal circumstances. There was probably some sort of scientific explanation but he didn’t bother with that, as far as he was concerned it was a sign that they had given up the fight already and would be easy targets.

Too bad. Easy targets were boring.

Every time it seemed like he was about to holster his pistol, he jerked up again, holding it out as if he expected a sudden attack. Expected, or hoped for. The men on the evening watch would have alerted him first, of course, but it never hurt to be on guard. It was just that time of night when it was neither bright enough nor dark enough to plan any sort of attack. It was just…nothing. Dull. Like time wasn’t passing at all. Goddamn, he had to remember to at least put the most interesting people on watch during this time. Anyone he would have actually wanted to talk to was sleeping.

His thoughts were interrupted by a groan in the distance. There we go, crisis averted. The prisoners were waking up and he had already planned a little show for them (because after a while, just explaining that they better be worth something or be ready to die got old, even if watching them struggle like rats in a trap was always good for a laugh). Tourists, as usual, so they had plenty of time to regret their little vacation and would probably beg a little, maybe even start crying. Spoiled bastards. He almost hoped that they didn’t have enough money to live but alas, it was always the weakest ones that could afford to buy their way out. What a shame. But at least, he could have some fun with them in the meantime.

Kurogane | Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle | Reserved

[personal profile] shut_up_idiot 2013-02-15 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: "Don't look down. If you are a man who has a job to do you always have to look ahead."

Kurogane is generally rather grumpy and it’s rare to see him smile, at least outside of battle. For most of his life his sole purpose has been to become stronger and he is willing to do almost everything in order to achieve this. While this has had the result of Kurogane not really caring who he fights or in what shape his opponent might be afterwards the need itself stems from a desire to be able to protect the people he cares about. Things have just gotten a bit muddled on the way.

He has a very short temper, and is especially enraged by Fai and Mokona’s teasing. When angered he is usually very quick to take to some kind of action, either by yelling or by chasing the object of his annoyance around with his sword while threatening them with bodily harm. It should be noted that he never seems to actually do anything to harm them, though. And there's a distinct difference between this kind of short temper and when he actually seriously gets angry. That is a more calm but completely murderous kind of anger and usually ends with someone getting seriously hurt.

He cares much more about people than he at first realizes. In the beginning of his travels he very clearly states that he will have nothing to do with Syaoran’s mission, since it has nothing to do with him. He will just just stick around until he has reached his own world; however, it doesn’t take him very long to begin changing his mind. And while he at first claims that this is only because that will allow him to reach his goal it doesn’t take very long before he becomes very personally invested in the wellfare of his travel companions. And though bristling at any references to him being the children's "daddy", usually from Mokona or Fai, he has no real problem with filling the role in action, if not in words. At this point in time this is still an ongoing process.

But that is one of very few blind spots, other than that he is extraordinary honest, and that includes himself. He’s not one to shy away from the truth, he meets it head on and if it’s not to his liking he’ll beat the shit out of it until it is. He’s also very good at reading people. Fai has spent most of his life building up a perfect mask, and still he sees through it in a world to two. And this is not only limited to Fai but seemingly anyone he decides to actually focus on.

He doesn’t have much patience and especially not with unnecessary things like politeness. He would do anything to protect his princess Tomoyo - even lay down his own life, which is not something he does lightly - but that doesn’t mean that he will polite to her. He rarely calls anyone by name but while he tends to use titles or epithets instead it’s really not in a polite kind of way. At all.

As a side note it should be pointed out thought that not all of it is as impolite as it sounds. Because even when he begins to care about people he does not start calling them by name. But then his father used to call him “kid” just like he calls Syaoran, and while he had no intention to take on the father role in the beginning you can definitely read it in later on.

He has a very straightforward and simple view of life. There are enemies and... well... not enemies. He’s a great believer in the truth and in doing what you set out to do and absolutely hates liars and weaklings. Especially if he knows that they could be more than they’re settling for.

If he commits to something there is nothing that can stop him from doing it. And this goes for most things in his life. He’s extremely, and in some cases even fanatically, loyal to the people he decides to commit to. But again, this does not mean that he will listen to them or do what they want. He will do what he thinks it’s best for them no matter what they say or think about it.

Even when he’s loosened up he tends to be rather aloof and aggressive. He will not get involved in other people’s problems unless he has reason to, and if there's a chance of a fight, he'll probably take it. Nothing will stop him enjoying the heat of battle. He also tends to be very arrogant about his abilities, and there is no doubt in his mind that he will be able to beat any opponent he takes on.

And he really does love his battle. It’s almost the only time you see him have any sort of expression other than a scowl. When he’s fighting, and especially if the fight is ‘good’, there’s a wide grin on his face and if there is too much peace and quiet during the travels he grows visibly tetchy and even more easily annoyed than usual.

He’s not very good at being fussed at and he tends to ignore his own pain and injuries unless they are actually life-threatening.

Abilities/Powers: He's a really good sword fighter, and even when accounting for magic there are very few people in his canon that can match him. He also has some kind of spiritual power that he uses when he fights, since most people can't level entire buildings with one swing of their sword, no matter how skilled they are. He even has special, named, techniques where he specifically uses this power.

He can sense auras, both of living things and of inanimate object, and can also differentiate auras of different people.

He's very good at reading people, when he bothers to try, and can see through his companions' lies and masks with disturbing ease.

He is also able to handle pain like nothing else. Basically he can get stabbed through the stomach with a giant icicle and still be able to cut off his own arm without even flinching at the pain.

Items/Weapons: His sword; 'Souhi' and the clothes he's wearing, that's all.

Sample Entry Two:

So this world wasn't his home either, and without that damn pork bun there was no way for them to move on to the next one. At least not until whoever, or whatever, had brought them here decided to bring them back to the world they'd come from. He didn't like it, that there was someone or something out there with the power to keep him here against his will. There were already too many people in his life with the power to send him weird places against his will as it was. It was frustrating as well, having an enemy he couldn't fight.

Of course it could be worse, as worlds go he supposes this wasn't one of the worst. Not saying that things couldn't be better but at least there were things for him to do here while they waited to be sent back. At least there were things he could fight. He grinned as he felt rather than saw the creatures advancing on him, brandishing his sword and preparing for battle.

"Come on!" He called out. "Let's see what you're made of."

Yuri Lowell | Tales of Vesperia | Not Reserved

[personal profile] ownmorals 2013-02-15 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Yuri Lowell
Canon: Tales of Vesperia
Canon Point: Directly after the end of Part 2.
Background/History: Wikia
Previous Game History: N/A
Personality: At first glance, you may see Yuri as something simple; a simple basic person on the outside. But actually, he's quite comparable to a maze. A maze that seems like you could finish it in 4 minutes flat, but then you find yourself trying to figure it out for a good 3 hours.

Yuri's true intentions and motivations are always up in the air and hidden behind lies, deception, and coldness. This is the "Yuri" he shows off to mostly everyone, in attempts to avoid doing things he'd rather let someone else do, or to get himself out of things he doesn't want to be in. This "Yuri" also shows his own sense of humor, which is shown by teasing and snark. He'll tease just to see what kind of reaction he'll get from you, and depending on what that might be, he'll either keep going with it from time to time and laugh at you, or ease up on it--he knows when to stop and doesn't take it so far. If you hang around this "Yuri" long enough, you'll find yourself either pulling your hair out over how simple and outspoken he puts out to be, or noticing how easy he truly is read. He's honestly an open book, just that it's a book you have to get used to reading.

Lazy as he is, he's also a quite the show-off. And there's no point in showing off something if it's not all that impressive. Yuri is fit and active, exercising as a hobby more than a chore. His Bodhi Blastia helps his fighting skills during battles, allowing him to use Artes that he didn't normally learn through the knights. Although he's good with a sword, he CAN fight without it, as shown in some of his Artes, like Brutal Fang (Mash that attack button for a flurry of fists to the face!). He can hold his own in a fight, even if the power difference is highly noticeable.

Bringing it up, Yuri also has a good idea of battle techniques. If Yuri sees an example of whatever it may be, chances are he'll pick up on the move if it proves of interest to him. In a matter of seconds. It's how he learned Fatal Strike from Clint, without him even knowing he taught it to him. He sometimes doesn't even need to see it, give him some notes on the arte, and he'll learn it through trial and error, or just Wild Mass Guessing. (See: Tiger Blade.)

He picks up information easily and is also capable of noticing things others don't.

With this "Yuri," anything that requires way too much thinking, he doesn't do unless he really has to. Although I say "this Yuri," this is probably where his true being is actually at. He doesn't like thinking too hard about things, and can't stand looking at something too long. He's not exactly book-smart either, as said by he himself during a sidequest with Giganto Monsters. If he doesn't completely understand something, he'll ask about it.

As strange and cynical as he is, there's another side to our current "Yuri" that may catch you off--he's oddly optimistic. Rarely. Given the situation and if his friends/people close to him are feeling down, he won't mind giving a pep talk or two. He's not full of happy and cheer, but he'll give you the good side of things in attempt to cheer you up. Of course, this is if he likes you enough.

It is also really hard to break this guy. At the most, you can anger him, but it'd be a hundred years before you could break him. He doesn't let most things try to drag him down, and instead pushes forward. What's done is done, and we have to move on. He also can be pretty happy during the most darkest things, as Duke even comments on that during the final moments before the final battle begins.

Although he may do things like that, this actually leads into another part of Yuri to delve into. This "Yuri" has a large self-esteem issue, placing others as far more important than he himself. This is the "Yuri" that you find beyond the slacker he plays, and isn't shown to much of anyone. He can't take a compliment without completely handwaving it, and he doesn't like it when people are worried about him. He thinks that there's bigger and better things to worry about than someone like him, but despite all this, he's actually quite the worry-wart himself. Of course, he won't show it, but if he were to ask if you're okay, he probably actually means "Oh my God, are you alright don't do that again god you're an idiot let me find some bandages for you are you hungry here I'll carry you you didn't break anything did you"

Funny enough, taking our Yuris into account, there's one more hidden "Yuri" that isn't ever seen to light unless under heavy circumstances. This is the dark side of himself, or rather the "take matters into your own hands, may it be just or unjust" side of him.

There's no bad intentions. Yuri believes that the corruption and power of the royalty/empire has gone on long enough. He has decided to take matters into his own hands if need be. He's seen what laws can do, and how people who're evil can just get away with being evil. They can do whatever they want--punish the innocent knowing that they can't do much to them. Yuri absolutely despises that, driving to "dirty his hands" by killing the evil that the law doesn't deal with. Although he knows that he's becoming what he hates the most, becoming a criminal in the eyes of everyone is something he doesn't care about. The only thing he does care about are the people. If someone can be saved by his actions, he'll be okay with whatever happens to him afterwards. You could say he has a strong sense of justice, even if it is a sort of an "out of whack" kind of justice.

"How would you go about punishing the villains that the law can't touch?"

As weird and dorky as this guy is, we can't forget that he's bone and flesh. Although he's not going down without a fight, you CAN indeed take this guy down. He's no monster or beast. As a human, taking him on under certain conditions around him do matter, as shown after the Outbreaker fight in the desert; the whole cast couldn't stand from it due to heat and drought, including Yuri himself.

All considering, he really, really cares about the people around him. The happy face he puts up is a huge facade, and you rarely ever know if Yuri is truly upset or not. He just doesn't want anyone worrying about him when there's bigger problems to be worried about, and usually, he doesn't need anyone worrying. He can solve his own problems himself he thinks, and if he can't, he'll keep it to himself. Or maybe even do both (See: I killed Ragou and Cumore and none of you have to hear about it.). Man's got a lot of pride, and he'd be damned to let go of it easily.

Abilities/Powers: If you're ever in a fight with Yuri Lowell, you best have had everything you had planned canceled just for that fight. Even if the odds are against him, and it shows and he even knows it, he's not going down without a good, long fight. There's no doubt about it that Yuri is really tough and fights are just another thing in his life for him. As mentioned, he was trained by the Imperial Knights the ways of a sword, not to mention he and his friend Flynn practiced sword fighting when they were kids. To say the least, he knows his way around a blade, and he doesn't really need to use it sometimes either, as he's good with his hands as well. Thanks to Niren, Yuri also has a Bodhi Blastia, which allows him to use Artes and other abilities and improves his fighting even more so.

He also knows how to cook really well. What a guy.

As the game terminology implies, Artes are special physical attacks or magic that allows the user to become more dangerous in the heat of battle. Yuri's not much for magic, although he can learn it if he actually studied the formula for it. Most of his artes are physical, however he knows some elemental artes as well. For more info, see my reference page here!

Items/Weapons: Yuri will be taking his Bodhi Blastia (the bracelet he wears on his wrist), Second Star (The name of the sword he carries), and the clothes on his back.

Sample Entry: [Returning from killing time by—what do you know—killing monsters, he’s nearing his hometown Zaphias when, he’s suddenly really hungry. Possibly, he was hungry before or during his outing with the monsters but just never seemed to notice or care about it, but hey. He’s realizing his hunger now, at this second. So it’s best to remedy this right?]

Getting a little starving here. You hungry, Repede?

[A small yawn from his canine partner—he’ll just say that means he’s not. He makes a small fire for both of them, Repede relaxing near it, laying down.] Let’s see here, what to make…

[He looks in what he’s brought with him. Afterwards, he decides that he should make something quick so he can get a move on, so what’s better than the staple of foods, the great sandwich?

Lettuce, egg, and two slices of fresh bread, Yuri has successfully made a sandwich! He’ll just be sitting down next to his loyal dog, and taking bites out of his newly made snack.
]

We did pretty good today. Let’s try to keep this up. [A beat.] …Least this is something I’m better then Flynn at. I don’t ever want to eat whatever he whips up again.

[Finishing up, energy regained, he stands and signals Repede to do the same. After a bit of re-preparation, they get back on track and go on their way to their original destination—Zaphias.

Wonder what to do tonight for dinner…
]

Sample Entry Two: (Sample is taken from my previous Yuri app to somewhere else!)

A swing can be literally heard from around the vicinity. Armor clanks behind it, possibly leading to a voice that can be heard, varying from "That was a close one..." to grunts and struggle. There was only one voice though, as the opposing person chose not to speak, and let his armor do the talking.

And halberd.

Yuri swiftly dodges his attacks, gathering many "close calls," as his wounds show. As heavy as his opponent is, the way he swings his weapon is admirable. How can someone heavily equipped hit dead on the mark like that? Yuri smirks, keeping his distance away from the man in armor. He had picked himself a fight with one of the City Guards. No one knows how this fight started, but rumor has it he merely wanted to see how good of a job our man in clad actually is. He figured it's all a dream, so no real punishment could come out of it. Or maybe he just wanted a fight. Who knows?

One fact though, was that someone overheard someone else saying, "What happened to just accepting orders and wagging that tail of yours, huh?" before the brawl occurred. Only an observation, but something to think about.

He finds himself in the heat of trouble, with the occasional "this is bad" coming to his head. Even when he does get a clean solid hit on the body, he can't seem to stagger it down. "This can't be just any type of knight...damn, did I get myself into it now."

This won't mean Yuri will back down and run away though. He's gonna keep this up until either someone cuts in between the two, or one can't go on anymore. He notes an opening and swiftfully takes charge and attacks, backstepping to keep his distance directly after.

"Still nothing..." Yuri glances at the guard, keeping his stance. He lays a smile on his face. He didn't have any ideas to work from, nor did he have any ways to break his defense.

So why did he smile, so suddenly?

He was just having too much of a good time to let it slip by.
