Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:

Sample Entry: [When the camera turns on, it seems to be an accident--it's way too close to whoever is using it right now, but soon enough, she seems to notice that it's recording.]

Oh, dear. [She moves back--now you should be able to see what appears to be a young girl with blue hair and orange flower clips.] So this is how the people here communicate with one another...well, hello then.

[She simply looks at the camera for a little while longer in silence, before sighing.]

You'll have to forgive me, but I'm not used to speaking with others. In fact, I didn't actually intend to speak with anyone here right now. I was just inspecting this device when it turned on. Still... [And here, there's a tiny smile.] I can't help but wonder what that boy would say, if he was here to see so many people at once...

[But then the smile fades, and she seems disinterested again.]

Well, that's it. I've said what I wanted to say. I don't know if anyone's actually watching or listening, but I'll be going now. Goodbye.

[But she doesn't turn off the phone. She simply abandons it, going out of frame. The camera stares at empty space for a while, before it eventually times out.]

Sample Entry Two: By now, she had thought that seeing death didn't affect her anymore. After all, most of humanity had died in the world she knew, and even she herself may as well be dead by now, just a ghost of her former self. People live, and then they die. That was the natural order of things.

Still, she did feel a twinge of pity--no, sympathy, for some of these people, listening to them as they lamented and cried for their fallen friends. It was never easy to watch someone cry over the loss of a loved one, even if the person they cried for was someone she didn't even know. Still, there was nothing that she could do except watch, like a distant observer to the matter.

Though, there is one thing that Chiyo was at least grateful for: at least that boy, Seto, wasn't here in such a terrible place. Sure, there may have been people here, but...

Absently, she touched the ring she wore on her hand. At least he wasn't here either. She couldn't bear to imagine the kind of face her beloved would wear if he had been brought here. It was better to imagine that, wherever his spirit had gone by now, he was still smiling just like he used to. Or maybe he was still lingering somewhere back in the hotel...ah, it was strange to think that she was starting to become nostalgic for that dusty old hotel she had haunted before.

But, that was the past, and this was now. Thinking about such sentimental things would not bring back these people who had died now, or wipe away the tears of the people that were crying over their friends here in Haven.

And so, Chiyo quietly turned her back to it, floating off into the darkness.

Character Name: Sayaka Maizono
Canon: Dangan Ronpa
Canon Point: Post death, chapter 1.
Background/History:
- General Wiki page with story/premise info.
- Her Wiki page with more specifics.
stager: (hopeful smiling)

[personal profile] stager 2014-06-16 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Sayaka Maizono is a celebrity: a singer, to be exact, who earned her fame at a very young age with her precious friends. She appears friendly enough at a glance, and outwardly seems to have a very cheerful demeanor, even after being trapped with the others at Hope's Peak. Her smile is often described as empowering and mysteriously comforting; her beauty compared to that of a doll. But as with all smiles and masks, no matter how beautiful, there is a lot hidden behind it--and it is fragile.

Something important to notice first is that she spends a lot of her time on screen with Naegi. After Naegi is knocked out by Oowada, it's Sayaka who goes to check on him, and when she needs something as serious as a weapon to defend herself with, it's Naegi whom she invites to search with her. She trusts him the most, because he is the only one she remembers ever meeting before (and vice versa): they went to middle school together, have a (very sparse) history together, and even though they hardly knew each other, she seems to cling to this fact.
SAYAKA: ...I'm seriously leaning on you right now, Naegi.
NAEGI: Huh?
SAYAKA: Just being with you, I feel so much less afraid, less uncertain.
SAYAKA: I can't imagine how hard all this would be for me if you weren't here...
She's so good at reading him and his emotions, too, that she is prone to blurting out exactly what he's thinking, or responding to it as if he's said it aloud ("I'm an esper" ... "I'm kidding, I just had a feeling"). She declares herself his sidekick, vowing to escape with him, she's that grateful to him for just being there and offering to protect her. She makes jokes, kids around, seems comfortable around him; and it's easy to see that he is the reason she's able to smile at all.

She opens up to him. Even when she doesn't know what to say, and Naegi tells her it's okay just to be there together silently, she can't not say anything. She isn't used to "just being there," staying still. She initiates the conversation herself, about dreams and about her childhood, and the player learns a lot about her as a result.

Her own dream, for example. Sayaka talks about how she's yearned for the stage all her life, and how important it is to her... to the point where she literally did anything it took to reach it. Even bad things, questionable things... things she wouldn't even admit to, all for a harsh, unforgiving industry where if you fall behind or misstep even once, you're lost forever. She wouldn't have it any other way. The only thing she's ever known is the stage. Even before she achieved stardom, even when she was a lonely little girl, living with her workaholic father who never had time for her... she only had her idols on TV to look up to, and they became her role models. She wanted to be just like them: to take away loneliness, they way they had done for her, and warm everyone's hearts.

Living this dream... she describes it as a seat in paradise, and she is terrified of losing it. Terrified of being forgotten, of being left behind, especially while she's stuck at Hope's Peak against her will. She loses her composure just talking about it, if only for a brief moment, before regaining it again like nothing happened at all.
NAEGI: (Maizono laughed.)
NAEGI: (The eruption of emotion had disappeared from her face, and she was back to her usual, cheerful self.)
NAEGI: (I wonder why.)

(x)
This happens again after Sayaka sees the blackmail video prepared for her by Monokuma (Junko): something literally custom-tailored to rile her up for murder in an attempt to escape the school. She watches the video of her precious friends, collapsed on a dilapidated stage with no context, no reason why, and no indication of whether or not they're even still alive, and when Naegi tries to even ask about it (while dealing with his own horrific video, mind you), she storms out of the room, yelling at him to leave her alone.

Predictably, Naegi chases after her, and though she does make the attempt to hide, she doesn't seem to care much about avoiding him. It takes longer this time, and he actually has to make an active attempt to calm her. She even throws herself into his arms. Things almost seem okay by the end of it, too... enough so that Naegi doesn't suspect a thing, when Sayaka later asks him to switch rooms with him because she's worried about suspicious knocking on her door.

But it's too late. Her plan is already in motion, and the video proves to be just the push she needed.

It's funny that Naegi is the one to compare her to a doll -- something fake, easily manipulated. She betrays everyone, after pretending to recover after Naegi's reassurance; but namely two students in particular, Leon and Naegi himself. Perhaps Leon's weakness for girls made him an easy target, and perhaps Naegi's optimism and belief in her made him a good scapegoat. Either way, her manipulative tendencies come to light -- from the room switch, to the letter she writes to Leon, luring him out of safety under false pretenses. She nearly gets the best of both of them, and would have, had things not gone wrong.

She lost. It's not clear why -- Kirigiri suggests that she hesitated, that she was having second thoughts, which both seem likely. The fight that should have ended with Leon's dead body and Naegi heavily implicated ended instead with her, dying in a lonely shower stall, scrawling out Leon's name in blood. It is a gesture that can be interpreted in a couple different ways: either she wanted to save them (Naegi in particular) from execution by pointing out the right culprit, or she wanted to make sure Leon got his just desserts. But more than likely, it is a mixture of both.

It's hard to say she would have regretted her actions. Her feelings towards Naegi had no reason to change (he was still the only person she knew), and likewise, there was no reason for her to single out Leon either (she'd only just met him, as far as she knew). She was desperate. Her dream, her friends just meant that much more to her, and since she's already done awful, unspeakable things for the sake of her seat in paradise, taking it a step further to keep it was only natural. For a scared young girl who's been concerned about her public image her entire life, hesitation and second guessing are natural, too. Then there's the anger and bitterness that would come from losing, dying... so it definitely wouldn't be farfetched to say she would want to see Leon punished. Even if she never lives to see it.

In conclusion, Sayaka is manipulative at her core. She is not only a singer, but an actress as well, and she has no qualms about using her charms and good looks to her advantage, especially when her dream is being threatened. She is a very motivated and defensive person when it comes to this, so although she isn't inherently a bad person, she has a lot of issues--specifically with abandonment and loss--that cause her to go to extremes when she feels it is necessary.

Haven's atmosphere will only serve to compound this and make things worse.

Abilities/Powers:
Sayaka is known as the "Super High School Level Idol," a title bestowed upon her by Hope's Peak, or Kibougamine Academy. It is a very prestigious, exclusive, invite-only school based on talent, and as that suggests, her singing is incredible. She has been famous for it (along with the rest of her friends in her idol group) since as early as middle school, to the point where she's achieved celebrity status. She is otherwise completely human, however, with no supernatural powers.

Items/Weapons:
- kitchen knife (used in her attempted murder of Leon)
- DVD with her blackmail video on it--labeled with her name, though that will disappear because #HavenProblems

Sample Entry:
[Sayaka would have never thought to set foot inside the church, had it not been for Stefan's instructions. She never had time to do anything like pray, growing up, and she certainly didn't feel keen on talking about any secrets today... or ever.

But the nightmares.

The nightmares...have become too much, and they've only been getting worse. Each one more intense, more real than the last. Literally.

Some woke up blinded. Some with hands so mangled and burned, they were unrecognizable. She couldn't let it happen to her, too.

She finds herself before the bloodied box at the church, though the sight of Stefan has made her think twice. The knife she brought with her rests comfortably in her dominant hand; and before she can change her mind, she makes a small slice on her other palm, allowing the cut to drip as she speaks. She holds out her hand.]

I... tried to kill someone. [Her voice is quiet and tentative and shaking, but he remembers how Stefan had warned them all to be loud. She elaborates:] And I succeeded, even if it wasn't in the way I intended. I killed him, and had things gone my way, I would have killed them all for the sake of getting back my dream.

[She pauses for breath. Her hand, previously trembling, steadies. She's come this far.]

Because of this place, I have to live with what I've done, without my precious friends... and that terrifies me more than it should...

[Finally, she presses her hand to the box, rubbing it in and twisting slightly before releasing it. For the first time, the cut starts to sting, as she thinks of more. More guilt to weigh her down, more regrets. She winces. What about all of the unspeakable things she did to even become such a famous star in the first place? Did she even deserve the title of Super Level High School Idol, considering that?

...But she's said enough. She backs away, shaking her head, because no. She does deserve that title. She deserves the stage.

And she will prove it every day if she has to.]

Sample Entry Two:
Sayaka Maizono accepted death.

She accepted waking up again, somehow, in that strange unknown apartment. She could even accept the bloodstained uniform she wore, and the bloodstained knife that accompanied it, peeking out beneath her pillow. She has no problem grabbing it in morbid curiosity; still disoriented and vaguely wondering why it wasn't still inside of her, when it was so obviously the same one.

But then she sees it. A circular disc, shining next to where the knife had been, taunting her. And that, she cannot accept.

Any semblance of composure she may have had starts to crack, and any residual pain she may have felt in her gut or broken wrist fades into anxiety. The DVD no longer bears her name, but she doesn't need it to know that it's hers.

"Why..." She stammers. Her hand shakes increasingly as she reaches for it. "Why is it here...?!"

Suddenly, getting her bearings isn't important. Learning what hospital this might be, or what kind of messed up place she's found herself in... she doesn't have the time. She can still remember it clearly: seeing her precious friends lying helpless on the dilapidated stage.

And she knows of only one way to get rid of that image.

She can't take it anymore. She cries out in a frantic scream, releasing all the nervous energy she'd held in and channels it without thinking, breaking the DVD clean in half with a loud snap.

Her everything shakes, and she collapses to the ground.

Disc pieces, knife, and all.

Previous Game History: It was on a warm, cloudy day in June of 2009, a few weeks after her twentieth birthday, that Fatima decided to walk home from a community college course on necromancy in ancient literature. As she turned a corner, she felt a sudden wave of dizziness and then blacked out. She woke up sometime later to the swaying rhythm of a ship at sea. She was on the deck of a barge called the Charon where a loudspeaker ominously welcomed her to the COMPASS Organization, an organization dedicated to the study of fear. She, and the other unwilling prisoners who had been dragged in from across time, space, and dimensions, were to be the subjects of COMPASS's experiments.

Fatima kept a low profile for much of her early stay. She observed COMPASS's experiments, which often involved hallucinations and torture, but she largely managed to evade their notice. The greater danger seemed to come from her fellow prisoners, who were often driven into homicidal rages. This wasn't to say she was without friends. She found a connection with several of her fellow inmates, including fellow monster hunter Dean Winchester, a hatter named Jefferson, a witch named Morgana, and the teenage Roddy who she very quickly adopted as her honorary kid brother. Through them, she became engaged in a quiet resistance movement which eventually, under the leadership of Emma Swan, revolted against COMPASS and managed to kill their Project Head. Once he was out of the way, they gained access to the technology that originally kidnapped them and used it to return home.

Or so they thought...

Instead of returning to Los Angeles, Fatima found herself in a town called Zelien. It looked like something out of the 1920s, a college town with little shops and restaurants and a population of people who couldn't see her. Or any of the other prisoners. They'd all been brought back for a new phase of COMPASS's work. All of Fatima's friends (minus Dean) crossed over with her. No resistance formed this time, but Fatima and Morgana discussed creating a coven to use magic to defend them against COMPASS. They had some trouble recruiting and quickly discovered that the next phase of experiments were different from before. COMPASS devised haunted carnivals and wild weather events and other new tortures.

They also continued to bring in new prisoners.

Fatima happened to meet some people from Dean Winchester's world, namely a fallen angel named Cas and Dean's brother, Sam. She took an instant liking to both of them. She also met a new version of Dean, but this one was from a broken and deteriorating future. He instantly came to distrust Fatima when she recognized him. Their animosity quickly escalated during an experiment where COMPASS transferred all of Fatima's powers to Dean. He tried to use them to burn her to death and it was only Sam's intervention that saved her.

Grateful to Sam, Fatima tried to return the favor, occasionally joining him in Zelien's library to try to make sense out of the world around them. It was in this time that she came to realize she was attracted to him. Fatima had never pursued any kind of romantic connection, beyond the first date, but she recognized that this was due largely to the nature of her life back home. She couldn't date someone who didn't know vampires existed. That was too much a part of her life. Sam, however, was different. He was a hunter and, like her, had grown up in the life. Their first date was incredibly awkward until they kissed and realized that maybe there was something there.

Meanwhile, COMPASS continued to cook up new disasters. During one of their experiments, they unleashed vampires on the prisoners. These were unlike the Cainites Fatima knew back home and she was taken by surprise in an underground tunnel one night. The vampire turned her and abandoned her in a puddle of her own blood. Horrified that she'd become something she hated, Fatima considered walking out to greet the morning sun. Cas stopped her, reminding her that she was still herself. Fatima did her best to embrace this attitude and even managed to resist feeding off of Morgana when offered the chance. By the sixth day of being a vampire, when Sam finally found her, Fatima had more or less become convinced that she could make this new life work.

As soon as she came to this realization, however, COMPASS ended the experiment. Fatima began to cough up blood and tissue and knew that she was dying. As Sam held her, she managed to get out two words: Find me. The next thing she knew, she woke up in a shallow grave, covered in dirt. She dug her way out, half-pulled by Sam who was waiting for her. The experience shook her to the core. Although she was grateful to be alive, she couldn't stop wondering how many opportunities in her life she would have missed, had she not been revived. The experience made her eager to embrace life with a renewed passion, including opening herself up to the idea of a sexual relationship with Sam.

COMPASS never brought back their victims without a parting gift. For a week or so following her revival, Fatima--who never touched red meat--found herself craving blood. Luckily, it was around this time that Morgana approached her with the idea of starting a garden. Since Fatima had powerful magic which allowed her to make plants grow at an accelerated rate, she readily agreed to the idea. The two of them raided food stores, stealing whatever seeds they could find. The garden wasn't enough to sustain the entire prisoner population, but it was a good supplement, especially considering the fact that COMPASS would often cut food supplies down to nothing more than universally-hated creamed corn.

One night, Fatima received a frantic and misspelled message from Sam. While in the library, he discovered several ominous texts, detailing the events occurring around the campus. Through them, he came to realize that they were in some kind of Lovecraftian environment and that the Old Gods were coming for them. Fatima was skeptical at first, noticing how Sam clearly hadn't slept in days and seemed a little delusional, but after forcing him to rest, they discussed it again. It seemed there was some truth to what Sam had discovered. Although terrified, Fatima took comfort in knowing what the enemy was now. And she took comfort in Sam.

Another long-term experiment came from COMPASS. The entire population was transported to a post-Apocalyptic London, filled with zombies. Fatima did her best to scavenge during the week, certain beyond any doubt that COMPASS would return them to Zelien when it was all over. As she was going out, raiding abandoned cars, she discovered Cas standing over the body of Dean, who he'd had to kill during a fight with some undead. Fatima and Dean had not really mended fences (in fact, she and Sam were keeping their relationship a secret from him), but when Cas asked her to help him give Dean a proper hunter's funeral, she compiled. There was some delightful irony in lighting Dean's body on fire, after he'd tried to do the same to her.

Upon returning to Zelien, Fatima got back to work on her garden, recruiting Roddy and her new friend, Beverly Crusher, to help her out. She also received an unexpected visit from the angel Lucifer. Through both Dean and Cas (and eventually Sam), Fatima had learned that in their world, Sam was destined to become Lucifer's vessel. In Zelien, to keep as many people safe as possible, Sam and Lucifer struck a bargain, where Sam provided Lucifer with a list of people who couldn't harm, in exchange for agreeing to spend some time with Lucifer. Fatima's name was on the list. Lucifer tried to glean some information about her and her relationship to Sam, but Fatima found ways to dance around the subject. In the end, they almost got along. Sam was understandably displeased, however, when he found out about the encounter.

One morning, Fatima heard the clamor that usually signaled new arrivals to Zelien. When she went out to the train platform where they typically appeared, she was hit by some kind of spell and instantly fell unconscious.

Personality:
Put your faith in what you most believe in
Two worlds, one family
Trust your heart, let fate decide
To guide these lives we see…

It’s as if Phil Collins wrote the song about Fatima’s world. The overall theme of her entire life has been that Fatima is a duality, existing in two worlds simultaneously. On one side is her human half. She is a mortal, modern girl who grew up in modern-day California. She went to high school, got picked last for kickball, idled away hours at the mall, fought with her mother about her blouses being too revealing, and took driver’s ed. But there was another side to her, her Cainite half. Fatima grew up steeped in the supernatural. The only father she ever knew was Liam, a Cainite over two hundred years old, who ran a court of vampires in the middle of LA. She was taught from a very early age that it was her purpose to learn magic and to help protect other dhampirs and the world itself. The monsters under her bed were always very real. Death was close to the surface of everything she did. And this duality in her life created a great deal of conflict both inside of her and in her relationships with others.

No words describe a mother’s tears, no words can heal a broken heart…

The overall most significant force in Fatima’s life was her mother. Fatima was loved beyond words, beyond measure. Her mother often called Fatima her single greatest accomplishment. From the day she was born, she was utterly cherished. True, life wasn’t perfect. As Fatima was a modern girl, she and her mother had their share of fights, but they were all superficial and shallow and quickly forgotten after a time-out and a hug. Fatima’s mother was open and honest with her about everything she was, right from the get-go. Although the word “destiny” itself was never used, Fatima grew up knowing what her duty would be and was instilled with a sense of pride. For her, the life of a mortal among vampires was considered perfectly "normal." She never thought otherwise, never sought otherwise.

Coming from virtually every ethnicity and race, in one way or another, family was Fatima's real culture. She defined herself in terms of her Merali bloodline. Even if they celebrated Christmas or Hanukah or Kwanzaa around the compound, her true spirituality always came from the idea of her family. Fatima's mother encouraged the idea of strong women, making Fatima aware of her ancestors and their great deeds. Fatima came to view herself very much as connected to what they'd done, with ambitions for being every bit as great. And, of course, no ancestor was more of an inspiration to her than her mother.

Her mother’s death, therefore, was a body blow. Fatima lost her mother too soon, too young. And because of this, she was thrust into her mother’s shoes too quickly. She knew she’d always been slated to lead the dhampir coven, but she wasn’t ready. Fatima knew it, the Cainites knew it, and Fatima knew that the Cainites knew it. So she developed a desperate need to prove herself. This went beyond proving she was mature and responsible enough to handle her mother’s work. Fatima wanted to prove that she was strong enough to sit as an equal among the Cainites. She was no mere mortal and she would not sit at the "kiddie table" of life. She had power and she would be treated with the same respect as Artemis and Artemis’ immortal followers.

Raise your head up, lift high the load, take strength from those that need you…

Fatima’s pride and stubborn determination to always be viewed as an equal became a frequent downfall. She perceives slights easily, especially coming from supernatural creatures. She has a sharp temper that flares suddenly. She’ll also get in over her head by pushing herself too hard or treading too deep into unfamiliar territory. The idea of being perceived as a coward is terrifying to her and "stubborn" doesn't even do justice to how pig-headed she can be when she feels questioned or looked-down upon.

On the other hand, her pride is occasionally a merit. Fatima can be charismatic and charming. Her over-confidence can be perceived as an easy confidence, making her a natural leader. When she’s not feeling threatened, which is generally when she’s dealing with humans, she makes friends quickly and easily. She enjoys lively debates and challenges. While she’s not a scholar by any means, she enjoys intellectual pursuits on occasion (she's better at Sudoku than a crossword puzzle, though). And, of course, she’ll never say no to a party.

With every ending comes a new beginning…

Fatima is actually just coming out of her phase of “teenage rebellion.” Following the death of her mother and her attainment of high status among the dhampir, she went through a long period of intense prejudice against Cainites. She’d seen too much to ever be wide-eyed again and the idea of having to become entangled in that world in the most intimate of ways, namely, eventually giving birth to a Cainite’s child, led her to act out and develop a crippling fear of intimacy of any kind. She would go hunting the wicked Cainites, chasing them down with fervor. Some part of her mind convinced her that if she got rid of all the bad guys, there would no longer be a need for the Order of the Silver Crescent and she would not have to continue the Merali line. It was a matter of great tension for her, feeling torn between her love of her family and her fear of the Cainites necessary to continue her line.

This obsession nearly got her killed before Artemis and Liam eventually relieved her of the burden, telling her that no one expected her to continue the Merali dhampir bloodline if she did not wish it. Fatima’s prejudices faded, but didn’t vanish. As mentioned, her pride is deep and she’ll see insults where there are none. She’s also slower to trust supernatural creatures than humans. Nevertheless, she’s learned to perceive differences between people, giving Cainites and other supernaturals the opportunity to prove themselves worthy of her trust.

A new life is waiting, but danger's no stranger here…

Moving from her homeworld where she was, at long last, at the top of her social heap to the world that COMPASS created slowly began to transform Fatima further. This manifested itself primarily in her attitude toward death itself. COMPASS had a habit of reviving prisoners who were killed during their experiments in fear. As Fatima watched friends and enemies alike die and rise again, she slowly and unconsciously developed a certain devil-may-care attitude. More and more, she threw caution to the wind, behaving recklessly. Unlike during her teenage rebellion, this was not out of fear. Rather, this time, she was struggling to accomplish the same good work the Order did back home...without any backup at all.

When Fatima herself was killed and revived, digging her way out of her own grave, the devil-may-care recklessness got somewhat worse. She's come to realize her own mortality. Rather than make her more cautious, this has encouraged her to make every moment count. Because of it, she's opened up a little bit more to intimacy and passion.

Another huge impact her time with COMPASS had was on Fatima's sense of secrecy. Back home, Cainite existence was a secret and all members of the Order functioned under an understanding known as "the Masquerade," by which they all agreed not to reveal the existence of the supernatural to human beings at large. On the Charon and in Zelien, there was no shielding the general population from the existence of the supernatural. Everything was out in the open and Fatima embraced this philosophy, losing any desire to conceal her abilities. This isn't to say she'll introduce herself to new people as a dhampir right off. But she has no problem using her powers in front of people. She even enjoys the chance to show off.

Previous Game History: Sam arrives fresh from the car crash, finding himself on the platform of a train station, which makes about zero sense considering the circumstances that led up to it. Unsure of whether or not he's dead, Sam immediately sets out to find his father and brother. His battered state attracts several people who have wandered off an invisible train as well as others who've come to greet them. Sam unwittingly makes acquaintances with someone from his future (Castiel), a half vampire (Fatima), a couple of women from fantastical worlds, and even an alien. It doesn't really convince him that he isn't crazy. A few seem willing to assist his search, while others try to keep him grounded and explain the situation. Fatima, however, seems to know his brother and says she'll help out, eventually leading him to the university campus where everyone is staying. It's there where Sam begins to lick his wounds that he meets Pearl, a vampire who later becomes a confidant of his. In his later search in pursuit of Dean (and potentially John), Dean (AU) finds him in an abandoned church, but it's not the Dean Sam remembers. Assuming his brother is actually Lucifer, Dean shoots at him, only to be retaliated against by Sam in an accidental display of his demon blood-infused powers. Castiel appears and breaks it up. It's not a good start.

As if being in Zelien wasn't strange enough, Sam found himself wandering on board of a cruise ship that showed up in the harbor. Playing poker and blackjack with aliens is starting to fall into the theme of WTFery of the place, but it's when he and Fatima have to fight and flee from imaginary vampire clowns that it hits the super strange level. But it gets worse when he's later locked in a room right out of Saw with none other than James T. Kirk that Sam pushes impossibilities aside to try and not die. Sam sees a vision of Pearl's death and fears the it's too late. Jim, however, gives up his own life so that Sam can make it out of the room, where he meets up with the vampire Pearl who made it out alive. The two are granted with freedom. Unfortunately, it doesn't last long, as the entirety of the city is transported into space on a failing ship, the Ishimura. Residents are forced to work together to try to restore the ship, but it's plagued by some sort of undead monsters. It's there that Sam meets Velma Dinkley, who he helps clean up some of the dead bodies they find. (That was a weird experience.) He finds Jim Kirk alive, but as time goes on, everyone begins to hallucinate. Sam runs into Pearl who mistakes him as someone from her past and Sam is forced to take her down. Likewise, Sam is seeing Jess around every corner, even mistaking Dean for her at one point. Dean, in turn, refuses to believe Sam is anyone but the devil takes the opportunity to shoot him point-blank. Castiel, the full angel version Sam has yet to meet, shows up too late and is unable to revive him. Sam dies on the ship.

When Sam comes back to life, he's back in the graveyard in Zelien. He wakes up beside Pearl, who holds no ill will against him for taking her out when she needed it, but her friend Stiles is ready send him back to his grave with a baseball bat. It's when Castiel (AU) and Dean show up that Sam really has a problem. He spends the rest of the week keeping his distance from his others and licking his wounds, although Fatima managed to draw him out long enough to make sure he was in one piece, and to bring to light just how off the rails Dean has become. (Assuming she's a demon and trying to shoot her as well.) But she throws him for a loop when she asks him out. Having not taken her flirting seriously, Sam is confused and hesitant, so he takes a raincheck given the circumstances, thinking it's a bad idea. It's also in that meeting Sam has his first false vision, the punishment he receives for coming back to life which continues throughout the week. (Constantly seeing people he cares about dying.) He eventually speaks with Castiel in person, learning that there are two versions and that one is an angel. It blows his mind. But it's at this time that another Dean makes an appearance, who Sam automatically assumes is the same one who shot him and reacts with appropriate hostility. But once he's convinced this Dean is different, Sam is terribly relieved to see him. Dean is visibly livid at hearing about his doppleganger and he also let's Sam know that the demon they'd been hunting before Sam's arrival to Zelien, the one who killed Jess and their mother, is dead. It's not the comfort it should be; Sam wants the revenge himself.

The following week, residents have what supernatural powers they would be (normally) endowed with switched with someone else. Sam finds himself in the company of a large, white direwolf (which is actually pretty damn cool) and without his normal head-splitting headaches and visions of death. He checks in with Pearl, who is human, and consequently worried about the person who inherited her vampiric nature. She asks Sam to be prepared to take him down if things get out of hand, which Sam agrees. Thankfully, he doesn't have to. Dean (AU) tries to offer an unapologetic apology over text and ends up spoiling to Sam that he's destined to become Lucifer's vessel and says that he's been hunting Lucifer (in Sam's skin) for years. Sam expected something goes wrong in the future, but he didn't expect that. He's not ready to forgive Dean and now he needs more time to think about what he's learned. Castiel also finds himself human, which Sam assists him with a few basic concepts, but when Dean (AU) acquires Fatima's powers, Sam is called in to stop him from trying to off her once again.

The biggest problem in Sam's life comes with the next wave of guests on the platform. Sam always goes in case John shows up, but he's on edge because of a vision he had about Dean (AU) showing up and shooting someone. While he meets a few other people who are also looking for friends, meeting another person (Jo) apparently from his future, and Morgana, a friend of Fatima's who makes it her prerogative to size Sam up herself. However, when he sees the man from his vision he tries to warn him, only to have Castiel interrupt and subsequently be transported away. That man is actually Lucifer, who gives Sam a patronizing but confident talk of Sam's eventual consent. Castiel manages to come back and take Sam away. Shaken up, Sam keeps his distance from everyone and goes off to explore a large opening in the ground that reveals an Egyptian subterranean world instead. He meets up with Jo as well as a few other new faces in fighting off zombified monsters and mummies in the tombs, but he also has to come clean to Dean (AU) about meeting Lucifer. That goes about as well as expected. However the campus has to be evacuated due to a sandstorm, moving everyone back down into the tombs. Sam ends up finding out Fatima stays behind and has gotten stranded there, so he braves the storm to bring her back.

With the next wave of newcomers, Sam runs into Adam Milligan, a half-brother he didn't know he had and apparently betrays. Sam immediately confronts Dean, learning not only what happens to Adam, Michael, and Lucifer, but also that their father is dead. He doesn't handle the news well, but Dean comforts him and they agree on how to approach the situation. However, Castiel (AU) contacts Sam and says he's unable to find Dean (AU), fearing he's consented to becoming Michael's vessel. Michael ends up picking up on one of Sam's prayers--something he didn't realize the angels were doing--and it at least confirms that Dean did not, or was not able to say "yes". With the campus on lockdown, Sam spends the week researching in the library where he spends some time with Belle, someone he's met before who also has a love for literature, Velma, Shaun, and a few others. Lucifer makes his first appearance since they met, and when Sam refuses to engage, breaks different bones in bystander Ryan's body. In a panic, Sam agrees to talk if he'll leave Ryan alone. Sending a quick text to Jim so that someone is there to tend to Ryan, Sam is whisked away to Lucifer's room. It's there that Sam makes a deal that affects the rest of his stay in Zelien: as long as he has small chats of three question exchanges with Lucifer, about anything, Sam can name people that Lucifer won't torture and maim. It's a dangerous step to take, but for once, Sam feels like he might have actual control over something.

The following week Sam makes good on his raincheck (and more than a handful of reminders that he'd taken one in the first place) and takes Fatima out to dinner. He's still figuring out where he's standing and worries about her safety, but he's interested to see where time takes them. The speakeasy reopens and Sam occupies himself with more whisky than he should. Lucifer happens upon him and Sam takes the opportunity to name more names, however he discovers that, while true to his word of not torturing anyone, Lucifer still killed Castiel (AU). Sam realizes that he has to add an extra clause onto their agreement and (stupidly) offers to meet on a regular basis. Castiel shows up to take him away. Again. Sam finds Dean (AU) wandering around by the docks and is able to reconcile with him and for the first time, the two are getting along. He attends a creepy carnival, much to his dismay, with several people. At the end of the week, however, Dean (AU) confronts Sam after finding out from Lucifer about their arrangement and is less than pleased. What understanding they'd reached is destroyed and Sam is left with a black eye in his room.

Joining up with Jim and Belle, Sam and some others try to stop the mysterious train that drops people off from leaving the station. Consequently, the train crashes and COMPASS is unimpressed. Sam is forced to come clean to the other Dean, who is just as upset but still more rational. He agrees to let Dean know the next time he's supposed to meet Lucifer, though he has plenty of reservations about it. When they do meet, both the Deans are working together for force and end up taking Sam out and hole him up in the confessional at the abandoned church. He's bait for Lucifer who goes searching after Sam doesn't show as promised, and is locked inside. True to his word not to harm either Dean, Lucifer is tortured to the point of his body dying. Sam eventually breaks out of the confessional and tries to intervene, making the point that this isn't justice and they're not being any better than him. The Deans eventually kick him out. Fatima eventually collects him before they're all whisked away to a land full of Stephen King tropes. Sam spends most of the time avoiding both incarnations of his brother, running from Pennywise, and trying to track down Lucifer and keep him from a rampage, which he manages until Lucifer gains his arch angel abilities back and sends a deadly blizzard on everyone. When he's trying to get cover from that, he finds Fatima in the sewers, but this time as a fully transformed vampire. He wants to help, but she mysteriously dies at midnight. Sam promises to find her when she comes back and is left to try and give her body a proper burial, even in the circumstances. After watching her die, Sam starts to come to terms with his own feelings and asks Fatima if she wants to make their relationship official once they're back to campus and she is safe.

Back in Zelien, Sam is able to make peace with Dean (AU) a second time. The two agree they've made mistakes and want to work together to move past them (which is remarkably healthy for a Winchester). He also agrees to help set up a safe house with Dean (AU) and Castiel (AU), though he makes a point to keep using his dorm room half the time. That same week a large eye appears in the sky and Sam starts to suspect some greater forces than COMPASS at work. The text in the library books suddenly becomes readable and Sam devotes an entire week of his time to decoding the cryptic messages, which makes him terrified, excited, and a little ill at the same time. Sam comes to the conclusion that they're religious texts of sort, calling on deities that sound way too similar to the kind you find in Lovecraft's works. Cultists in Zelien start to confirm Sam's theories as they seem to try and use residents as sacrifices towards the Elder Gods. In his reading binge, Lucifer pulls Sam away to try and remember the week leading up to his rampage. Sam uses the opportunity to name another name (since it's been made clear Lucifer will honor his half of the bargain), but it's not a human. Sam names Michael in the hope that it will stop the apocalypse show down all together. When Dean shows up again, he's completely forgotten his time in Zelien and Sam has to help fill in some of the gaps that Fatima had already begun.

But it all comes to bite Sam back in the ass when Lucifer contacts him again, informing him that Michael has gone on a rampage of his own at hearing what Sam has done and would likely have no problem tearing him to pieces. Sam is easily worried, but ends up taking the enchoian charm to hide himself. Sam decides not to tell anyone else in the fear that Michael may use them to lure him out, but eventually Michael hunts Sam down. He's used as bait to bring Lucifer two him, and true to his word, Lucifer doesn't fight. Michael tears Lucifer apart first, Sam next. It's the second time Sam dies.

All hell breaks loose in more ways than one. Sam reawakens in the cemetery with Fatima hovering over him and what looks like Lucifer in the grave beside him. What he finds instead is an empty vessel, someone who is simply human. Nick is Nick without Lucifer and Sam is relieved. But deaths never go unpunished and Sam finds himself holding new powers that he unwittingly lashes out at Fatima with. Afraid for her safety and unsure of what he's capable off, Sam tries to hole himself away. Over the course of the final week, Sam goes through periods if heightened sense and ability, all the powers associated with demon blood at their height and acting out on instinct. The other half? He comes down from the high and is left with terrible cravings, hallucinations, and unimaginable pain. One final opening up to Castiel (AU) before he's ready to put himself out with the Colt he's always kept, Sam blacks out.

Personality: As the youngest of the two Winchesters, Sam fills the role of the rebellious one, which might seem contrary based only on appearances. He had dreams of a normal life; got himself established as a worthy scholarship student and Stanford and had a promising future ahead of him. In almost any family that would be something to boast about, but in the hunt-or-be-hunted life of the Winchesters, Sam's dreams weren't in line with the family job. But that never stopped him, even going so far as to cut off his ties with his family almost completely to pursue what he later calls an "apple pie" American life. He doesn't think that's so much to ask, but it seems his past catches up with him.

He is strong, stubborn--perhaps more-so than the rest of his family, which is saying quite a bit. Sam likes to be in control of the situation. He stands up to his older brother, Dean, and their father, even when his own ideas may not be the best course of action. He dislikes being told what to do and taking orders without question. Perhaps it is partly due to his contemplative and slightly brooding nature, but he doesn't like to take things at face value, hence he finds a list of to-dos hard to follow. Sam much prefers to pave his own path, even at the risk of his own safety (which Dean tends to be the one to clean up after). This often leads him to believe that his way is the right way, or that he is the only one capable of doing something as it should be done. He's been known to be put in his place on more than one occasion.

Independence isn't such a bad thing, though. It's allowed Sam an appreciation of what life could be. He's a free-thinker and very rational, able to pick up fine details and connect the dots rather quickly. Because of this, Sam is typically the one to do background research and studying for the cases that they take on. Dean often makes fun of him and his somewhat nerdy tendencies, but Sam brushes him off. It's an extension of his scholastic achievements and natural intelligence, which are not simply displayed by his impressive score on the LSAT. He's articulate and book-smart, yes, but he is also very intuitive, which is not directly related to his psychic abilities. In contrast to Dean's brash and all-guns-firing ways, Sam prefers to sit back and analyze a situation and he is able to relate well and take an understanding and empathetic approach to the people they end up meeting. (Dean also makes fun of him often for this by calling him a girl in various creative ways. It doesn't really stop Sam, though.) This can be by-passed with his long patience catches up with his hot temper, especially considering how willing he is to sacrifice himself in order to avenge the people he feels he should have been able to protect. However hot he burns, he burns quickly and is known to lash out and throw a few punches before he removes himself from a conversation or calms down completely.

His desire for revenge against the demon that murdered his girlfriend and his mother is his driving force for hunting at the beginning of the series, it takes him a bit longer than expected to pick up the idea that it's the "right thing to do". He has trouble letting go of his idea of how life should be, which his life never actually lines up with. It's a cycle of disappointment, but he always goes forth with good intentions. His caring nature is a benefit and a problem as he can get emotionally wrapped up more than he should with the cases they take on, though he gets better as they go along. He often tries to draw parallels from the cases they work on to his own life, always wanting to try and keep people ignorant of the horrific truths of their existence because that's what he values as paramount. Ignorance really is bliss, or so he believes. Sam never really gets over Jessica's death. She is not only a person he cares about deeply, but she also represents the life that he wanted from the beginning and lost to his own shortcomings (as Sam sees it, at least). Though he is attracted to other women, her memory and the fear of experiencing the pain of her loss all over again constantly holds him back.

Furthering his foil to Dean, Sam is neat and meticulous to a fault. When Dean is stuffing his face full of whatever greasy snack food he can find, Sam is typically looking at him in astonishment or disapproval. The two may argue and indulge in witty banter (or at least they think it is), but Sam really has never stopped looking up to Dean. He admires his older brother for his ability to deal with the things they do so well and his desire to protect him matches Dean's to do the same. And while he disagrees with Dean's desire to please their father by acting as perfect soldier and obedient son, he does see Dean as the better son and John's favorite (ironically how Dean seems to see the exact opposite). Though Dean has always taken on the responsibility of looking out for him, Sam tries constantly to urge his brother to stop always putting Sam first and take a moment for himself. He tries to connect emotionally, which usually isn't successful, but it doesn't stop him from attempting again the next day. In some ways, he acts as Dean's conscious while Dean tries to push and remind Sam that he is a good person.

His relationship with John Winchester is rocky on it's best days. While there is always the inherent love he has for his family, John has been an absent father for a good portion of Sam's young life. He states that he and Dean were "raised like warriors", although it was Dean who was more often than not the one taking care of him. When Sam found out about what John really did for a day job, he ended up being taught the same ways Dean was. Sam always resented it and the older he got, the more he and John would butt heads. Dean was the one to try and placate things, but it was really what Sam and John had in common that kept them at each other's throats. They are both stubborn, driven, and fixated on the idea that they know what's best. Sam was the rebellious son by preferring to focus on normal activities like soccer and school as opposed to fighting monsters. When he was eventually kicked out for going to college, Sam never bothered to contact John again. And yet, when Dean came to get Sam, their shaky history didn't stop him from wanting to find their father. At the end, he may not agree with John but he still wants to protect him. They end up understanding each other much more after Jessica's death and Sam starts to see why John became so fixated on hunting down the demon after the death of their mother.

While his sense of humor can be dry and sarcastic, Sam has a kind smile and a strong will to do what he believes is right. He doesn't see the world in black and white, but in varying shades of gray that need to be understood. Not all monsters are evil, not all people are good. It's the ability to make your own decisions concerning their nature that matter most in the end. It's a way of thinking that he is starting to consider in season one, though it's underdeveloped. The more and more he feels himself removed from the rest of humanity, not only because of his job but because of the evolution of his own abilities, the more and more he has to motivate himself that there is good that can come out of it. It makes him feel like a freak, all the things he's tried to avoid growing up, but despite this, Sam is someone who is constantly filled with hope in the greater good. He tries to impart this to Dean and it keeps him going when things get rough. It leads him to spare his father's life because there is tomorrow and they can go after the demon again, but not at the expense of his family, not when they're all they have left.

In Zelien, Sam has had to come to gripes with a lot of unfortunate aspects of his future. Normally at this point in canon he has no idea about what his destiny truly turns out to be, but he quickly learns that he not only helps jump start the apocalypse, but that he's Lucifer's true vessel. Sam has a lot of problem accepting this and comes to realize that many people expect him to give in because that's what already happened for them. He tries to turn his fears into something more productive, vowing to change the future that was dealt for him. However, it quickly becomes apparent that his own stubbornness and feeling like he's a disappointment keep him from reaching out to others. He constantly tries to shoulder the burden on his own and distances many of the people close to him accidentally. Sam wants to think he's doing the right thing, but the longer he stays, the more he feels like there isn't really a right thing, it's just the lesser of two evils. The confidence he had in the beginning starts to dwindle, although his relationships are strengthened and keep him from falling too far. He has a lot of hope for others but seems unable to reserve it for himself. When he leaves, he's at his worst, feeling one step away from letting it all go to Hell and back. But despite all of this, his resolve to try and do well by the people who care about him and a hefty desire to prove them wrong keeps driving him forward even when he's running on empty.

Abilities/Powers: He does have some supernatural abilities due to being fed demon blood as a baby...
Precognition/Clairvoyance: The first ability he displayed, Sam had visions of deaths before they happened. They were, however, always related to other children like him or to the demon that changed them in the first place. Whether this is related to his heightened sense of the paranormal or if that's a natural ability beyond the demon blood is uncertain, but he has a bit of an understated sixth sense in feeling the presences of spirits and whatnot. As opposed to the visions which are very detailed, it's more of a vibe he gets. For example, he was able to detect a presence in a house they'd just cleansed even when the psychic could not.

Telekinesis: Though at this point in canon it's mainly underdeveloped, in situations of heightened emotion he's been known to move objects violently with his mind. At this point in canon we've only seen it in one instant tied with a vision where he saw Dean's death and consequently reacted by moving a large cabinet that kept him locked in a closet.

Fatima Merali, continued

[personal profile] dust_of_life 2014-06-16 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
Abilities/Powers: On the natural side of things, Fatima is an athletic girl, with training in self-defense (a karate blue belt) and the use of a crossbow. She was a good student, apt at research. Her powers of observation are sharp. She’s also a decent dancer, if the mood strikes her. And, perhaps what she’ll most proudly boast of, she can wear five inch heels without falling over. Most of the time.

(Note from player: The World of Darkness rules regarding the supernatural abilities of dhampir are few and far between. Most gaming groups tend to create their own house rules. I am apping Fatima according to the house rules of my particular group, which used to play Vampire: The Masquerade exclusively. If you would like me to change her powers, I am more than happy to do so!)

Fatima’s supernatural powers are, in many ways, muted versions of Cainite abilities. She possesses a power called Presence, which allows her to make herself more attractive (Awe) or more frightening (Dread Gaze), depending on what she needs to accomplish. Awe is simply a matter of summoning her innate social skills. If she wants to activate Awe, it isn’t like a light switch. She needs to be chatting with someone or exchanging glances with them from across a room. And that person needs to be, at the very least, not actively trying to hurt her. Through casual conversation, kind looks, or flirtation, she can draw people to her, make them more inclined to go along with her. It’s not brainwashing. She’s not going to convince a vegetarian to eat a steak dinner just by batting her eyelashes. But her powers of persuasion and suggestion are stronger.

Dread Gaze, by contrast, is more like a light switch. By a simple force of will, she can frighten someone away from her. Cainites refer to it as letting “the Beast” come forward. It’s considered simply manifesting that which is Cainite in an otherwise human body. Since Fatima is only half Cainite, the power is muted. It only can work if she’s making direct eye contact with her target. And whereas a normal Cainite could frighten someone uncontrollably for ten minutes before they calm down, Fatima’s ability lasts half as long.

Additionally, Fatima possesses the power of Fortitude, meaning she can take a lot more damage than your average human being. She also possesses an unseen sense which allows her to detect other supernatural creatures like radar. Her mixed blood also means that she can heal wounds faster. Superficial cuts and bruises, she can heal with a thought. Broken bones take a week to heal. Fatima’s body also ages much slower than normal. Although she’s twenty, she looks decidedly younger and will have to deal with that for the rest of her extended life. And, unfortunately, she’ll always battle the sun. Although dhampir don’t burst into flames in sunlight, it is much harder for them to concentrate in bright sunlight. Fatima sunburns easily and her eyes are photophobic. Sunscreen and sunglasses help, but only marginally. The best solution is shade.

Fatima’s greatest source of power, however, comes from Cainite Thaumaturgy. Once upon a time, a mage called Tremere obtained immortality. He consumed the soul of a vampire and founded a Cainite bloodline named after him. They passed on blood magic, combining mage powers with Cainite disciplines. It was called Thaumaturgy. Fatima, like all the other dhampir living with the Order of the Silver Crescent, has been trained in Thaumaturgy. Using her own blood, she can perform several basic spells:

Cause Sleep: Pretty much what it sounds like. Fatima can put a single target to sleep with a spell.

Herbal Wisdom: Fatima can commune with plants. From them, she can learn if someone has passed recently, if an event has taken place within close proximity to the plant, or what the weather has been like recently in an area.

Speed the Seed’s Passing: Fatima can rapidly make a plant grow or decay.

Lure of Flames: Fatima can create small fires in her hand. They do not burn her flesh, but they otherwise behave as ordinary fire.

Force Bolt: With her mind, Fatima can cause someone to feel as though they’ve just been hit with an object of about 100 pounds.

Manipulate: A form of telekinesis that allows Fatima to move around a small object, something she could lift and carry with one hand, such as a cup, a TV remote, or a pencil.

Bar the Common Passage: Fatima can block a door with a simple spell. If someone breaks the ward, she is immediately aware of it.

Glyph of Scrying: Fatima can create a glyph from her own blood that will monitor a small area (about the size of a single bedroom).

Items/Weapons:
  • A long hunting knife
  • A silver necklace with a ruby-studded pendant, shaped like a sunburst
  • A packet of dried strawberries from her garden in Zelien

Character Name: Jefferson, The Mad Hatter
    Canon: Once Upon a Time
Canon Point: Season 3, midway between Going Home and New York Serenade
    Background/History: Once Upon a Time ( Jefferson/The Mad Hatter)
Previous Game History: Jefferson was trapped in ExitVoid for well over a year. Initially brought to the underwater city of Rapture and forced to contend with the monsters there, Jefferson was content to stick to his usual tactics of running away from danger and hiding...at least until running across Storybrooke's savior, Emma Swan. Jefferson decided that A) sticking close to her and B) keeping her out of harm's way would give him the best chance of returning to Storybrooke and his daughter, Grace. He also encountered his former employer Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold and old alliances were struck anew, mostly out of practicality's sake. Several others from their town came and went, but few were of consequence to him. After all, he wasn't well known or even well-liked back in Storybrooke.

Though through habit he remained fairly insular, there were several captives he maintained good relations with over time, though none he ever grew particularly close to. His abrasive and sarcastic personality may well have had a lot to do with keeping people at bay. The exception was Emma, who he shadowed closely in the hopes of assisting as time went on. On the whole he found her tendency to want to fight back and openly rebel alarmingly unwise, and was often frustrated by the more self-sacrificing amongst their number, having always been of the mind that it was better to duck your head and let someone else die for the cause. Still, if a portal home was ever going to open, he had placed his bets on her being the one to open it, considering the role she'd had to play in their own story back home. As the months progressed she may have even had something of an influence on him, her actions as a leader and defender of their fellow captives motivating him to act unselfishly now and again, stepping in and risking his own neck for virtual strangers when there was no real reward in sight. Children or fellow parents especially were given some favoritism in that regard. Jefferson justified these actions with the desire to return to his daughter a better man and better father than he left, combating the insecurities that plagued him in his own way, and truthfully that may well have been part of it.

Unfortunately, trying to be a good person doesn't always pay out.

At several points during his capture Jefferson was forced to actually fight the creatures hunting them, and killing the more humanoid of the monsters disturbed him greatly. He was prepared to do whatever was necessary to return home to his daughter, but he didn't want to do so as a murderer. This dilemma was compounded by COMPASS's attempts to turn the captives against one another, and during a handful of the experiments Jefferson was affected and violently attacked those around him. Thankfully, he never managed to actually kill any of them, and he was usually subdued in time.

Of the Storybrooke inhabitants trapped by COMPASS, Jefferson was one of the few never to return home, not even briefly. Bitterness was to be expected, and a certain degree of self-pity. The best way to ignore it seemed to be pitching in with the effort to make their cage more hospitable, stealing food and medical supplies. Living has been hard but he's adjusted as necessary to survive it, and he's a little hardier and sturdier than he had been before, and a little more willing to fight back. On the whole he's better equipped to function in a world that seems out to get him.
Personality: Jefferson's personality shifts dramatically over the course of the series, giving us a fuller image of who he is as a whole. There are three very distinct points in his life that define who he is and how he behaves, and even his core motivation changes very abruptly halfway through his life.

In flashbacks to his youth, he's shown to be confident and smooth-talking, with exaggerated facial expressions and a restless energy. It's clear he enjoys what he does, as well as enjoying the freedom afforded to him by having a hat that can transport him anywhere he wants. This is a Jefferson that is very devil-may-care, more daring than sense, likely out of lack of anything or anyone to come back to and therefore very little to lose. He's on the move too often to be tied down to any one place, and with his odd jobs procuring a good amount of gold he can live comfortably wherever he chooses. He's obviously used to being on the move, as he claims he's made many enemies in his travels. One expects he never willingly stays someplace for long. He's got a definite sense of style, his attire rather dramatic and sleek with a touch of dandy to it. Though he consorts with more nefarious sorts he's more a flight-than-fight individual, and not malicious unless the job calls for it. Being ruthless and self-serving at the cost of someone's else's feelings doesn't appear to trouble him at all, however. Indeed, conning Regina only to dash her hopes seems to bring him amusement ("You should have seen her tears!") though this is probably a lack of empathy more than active malice. He also shows an overt level of disregard for personal boundaries, given by how close he stands to people or how easily he touches even a complete stranger, and it's hard to tell if this is for shock value, him being cheeky on principle, or just not understanding the concept of 'personal space'.

The Jefferson we see as a single parent is much more subtle creature, as well as utterly devoted to his daughter Grace and her well-being. Having loved and lost has taken its toll on him, and becoming a parent has seriously reshuffled his priorities. He's considerably poorer and in shabbier shape, the obviously colorful clothing he still favors very worn and faded from hard living. He's shown to be resourceful in his poverty, selling mushrooms from the forest for coin and crafting toys for his daughter when he can't afford the real thing, though it obviously pains him not to provide for her in the way he thinks he should. He also seems to have sacrificed his world-jumping habits, claiming that doing so cost them Grace's mother and he doesn't want her to lose her father as well. There's a sentimentality to his nature now. He's matured quite a bit in his willingness to settle down somewhere for the long haul and care for someone else's needs above his own, though he is still obviously very impulsive and emotional, as seen in the way he offers a vendor at market every copper in his pocket to get Grace a white rabbit toy. He still has no concept of personal space, or else has grown beyond caring, readily getting into Regina's space even when preparing to send her packing. Regina claims that hard living has strengthened his resolve, but it seems a part of him still falls under the sway of others if it means he gets what he wants: in this case, the means to care for his daughter.

Jefferson in Storybrooke is a very broken individual, with only small pieces of his former personas still clinging. What he loves most has been taken from him, and he has spent a good deal of time in captivity, being forced over and over again to try and make a hat that will work when he knows the task is pointless. It doesn't matter. His determination to see his daughter again trumps all else, and if it means beating himself repeatedly against a door that will never open, then that's what he will do. The repetition of his task, his imprisonment, and his status in the town as a recluse and one of the only people to realize that they're time-locked has resulted in him becoming unhinged over the course of nearly three decades, watching the same day recycle itself again and again, and watching his daughter in the capable hands of a family that, in truth, might have the better resources to care for her. He readily voices bitterness, particularly towards her new father, implying a great deal of possessiveness. This Jefferson is above all other things desperate. He retains some of that twitchy energy from his youth, but is better at channeling it, and skilled at putting up a friendly face even when his intentions are anything but. He is resentful, paranoid, and violent when he feels he has cause, and he is more willing to fight now with his daughter on the line. There are still lines he will not cross, and he is told repeatedly by Regina that as much as he may want to kill, he does not have the capacity to kill in him. He does, however, trigger a set of events that give another character motivation to kill her instead, so it may be less nobility than a lack of stomach for doing it himself. He certainly doesn't have any qualms about issuing threats of violence, holding Emma at gunpoint in order to earn her cooperation, as well as physically grappling with her later when she and Mary-Margaret try to escape his house. He's also developed intense self-loathing for the poor decisions he's made, blaming himself in part for his inability to return to his daughter's side, a fear he projects onto her when the curse is broken and he has the opportunity to go to her at long last. He falters, voicing the fear that she'll hate him for leaving her, an outcome that would likely destroy him after everything he's gone through. It is a fear that turns out to be wholly unfounded as the two tearfully reunite, and Jefferson is last seen scooping Grace into his arms to take her home.

Abilities/Powers: He's got some measure of physical resilience, getting clocked in the head with a heavy brass telescope, getting up within seconds, rushing into a melee fight, then getting whalloped by a croquet mallet and Sparta-kicked out of a second-story window, only to get up again within seconds and make his escape. Aside from that and without his portal-opening hat, Jefferson is essentially a normal human being...or at least as normal as any mercury-riddled hermit can be.

Oh. And he can make hats. Legitimate ones, even.

    Personality:
Leon is generally an open book. He's pretty open about his goals and dreams, and it's pretty easy for him to say why too. All someone (or Naegi) needs to do is ask. This is, of course, the Leon before the tragedies that began when they were taken to Hope's Peak. After things there were set into motion, another side of Leon was shown, and not a good one either.

When Leon first formally introduces himself to Naegi, he's quick to tell him that he doesn't like his title of "Super High School Level Baseball Player". Instead, he corrects Naegi, telling him that he hates baseball and that he'd rather be a musician. Going to Hope's Peak was just a stepping stone to attempting to attain his "true" dreams, instead of furthering what he was already naturally talented in. From Naegi's first meeting, he learned several things about Leon Kuwata: the picture that was on the Hope's Peak website was after he was forced to shave his head by the rest of the team, he dyes his hair, he doesn't like baseball and never went to practice, and that he's a aspiring musician (vocalist, to be exact). So, in a time span of only a few minutes, Naegi (and the player) gets a good idea of what Leon is actually like. This contrasts a little bit with the other classmates -- for some of the others, they were more closed up and not as willing (knowingly or unknowingly) to talk about themselves. This isn't the case with Leon; this is just one of the examples that he's a little easier to get to know.

Another example would be found in the free time events between Leon and Naegi. When the subject of being a musician comes back up, Naegi ends up finding out Leon's true intentions behind wanting to be a musician -- to earn popularity with girls. What makes Naegi pause initially is that Leon makes a comment about becoming a singer just so that he can impress a girl. When it's mentioned that Sayaka might like actors (since Leon seemed interested), he says that he might become one. This brings Naegi to believe, and the impression that he's only doing these things so that he would be noticed and he'd get attention from girls.

However, despite the fact that he says right off the bat that he hates baseball, if the player decides to complete Leon's free time events, they find out that he might not hate it as much as originally believed. He makes this realization as he talks to Naegi about it; that he missed baseball and that it'd been the longest he'd played in a long time. He makes sure that Naegi knows that he wouldn't actually go to practice, but that he does actually want to play baseball again.

He has what someone would call a big ego; he is extremely confident in himself to the point of being overconfident. Leon knows he's talented in what he does, and that inflates his ego so much that he believes that he is the coolest guy on the block in pretty much every way. He has no doubts that he will make it as a vocalist or being able to get girls, despite there not being any visible proof that he would actually be able to get either. While being confident in yourself is a good thing, Leon Kuwata takes it another step further.

Leon is also pretty loud, easily turning to yelling to get his point across. He has a pretty bad temper as well, and is easy to make angry. It doesn't take Naegi much to hit a pressure point with Leon; for example, talking about baseball practice set him off and loudly exclaiming that he hates baseball practices and that he doesn't need to go to them. On a more serious note, he yells at Naegi as well after they are shown their DVDs, telling him that he wouldn't show it to him and that that's the only reason Naegi possibly had with talking to him at the time.

Which also brings me to another point -- Leon is pretty paranoid in his interactions with Naegi. One of the times that he's approached, Leon asks if he's there to kill him. One of his biggest fears is dying, because then he won't be able to continue on with his dreams. This, combined with what he saw on his DVD (unfortunately, we don't really know what he saw), and the fact that Sayaka Maizono made an attempt on his life was enough to push him to commit murder.

Here, we see a different version of Leon. After he kills Sayaka, he does make an attempt to cover it up. While he might seem to not be so smart when encountered normally, he does come up with a couple of good ideas when it comes to covering up the crime scene. For instance, attempting to erase all the signs that he'd been in that room and trying to dispose of his blood stained shirt. He used his talent to throw a glass ball at the incinerator, hopefully destroying this evidence. The remnants of a sleeve was later found; he hadn't been successful at getting rid of it all.

Even when confronted about Sayaka's murder, Leon denies the idea that it's ultimately his fault. He blames Sayaka completely on it, saying that it's her fault that he killed her. If she hadn't tried to come after him first, he wouldn't have used "self defense" (in his opinion) to kill her. It was mentioned before that he had a strong desire to live, and that was a big factor in this murder, as well as whatever he saw on his DVD. These things were the things that drove him to this point, though he stubbornly remains blind to them. He would much rather blame her for it, instead of taking responsibility for it himself. After Sayaka locked herself in Naegi's bathroom, for someone else else it might have been easy to go hide or go get help. However, instead of doing that, Leon was so unhinged that he went to get tools to break the door open to finish off Sayaka. This is where his "self defense" plea becomes a little shaky, but despite his pleas he was punished for her death anyway.

    Abilities/Powers:
Leon's title at Hope's Peak Academy is "Super High School Level Baseball Player", which means that he was chosen specifically for this talent to enroll in school there. He mentions that he doesn't need to go to practice to be good at what he does; suggesting that his talent is natural. He threw the glass ball at the incinerator to turn it on with an accuracy that was said as something only he could do. Other than that, he doesn't have any unusual abilities and is just a normal human.

      What the hell!?

      [Hi, Haven.]

Is this someone's idea of a sick joke -- I get taken to this place, and I have to deal with that girl again?? And what about that billboard bullshit?! Like hell we're safe here! I mean, look at it, it's a dump! It's even worse than where I was at before!

Is this a second punishment or something? It's not fair -- I never did anything to deserve this! Stop punishing me for something that's not my fault!! Whoever did this is gonna pay!

    Sample Entry Two:
((ooc: idea taken from the recent event because it seemed too good to pass up in the end))
Confessing sins, huh? He looked at the box he was standing in front of, arms crossed and frown on his face. They'd accused him of murder, hadn't they? His so-called "classmates"...he'd seen the looks on their faces when everything had fallen apart. They hadn't believed him.

So would it still be a sin even if he did nothing wrong? Of course he took Maizono's life, but he'd been just acting in self-defense. They hadn't been there, they wouldn't have been able to see what had actually happened and seen that it had been necessary to do what he did. But the question was, would Haven feel the same way? Would they look at him with those accusatory glances as well if they knew what he'd done?

He places a hand on the box -- and suddenly had a surge of anger. His hand curled up into a fist, and he punches it with everything he has in him.

Except it hurt. A lot. "Shit--!"

That'll probably be a bruise later. But he'll kick it for good measure anyway, before turning around and putting his back to it. "I didn't do anything, damn it! I don't have anything to confess!"

His fists clenched at his sides as he began to storm off. "It wasn't my fault!" He yelled at nothing in particular, though Leon was starting to put as much distance between himself and that box as quickly as he could.

Personality: Teppei Kiyoshi is the biggest basketball loving junkie you will ever set your eyes on. But beneath that dumb yet goofy basketball loving exterior, is a very kind and gentle man who just has an overbearing passion for the sport. No one is as dedicated to the sport as Teppei is. His determination to help build a team up from the ground and set its foundations is extremely noteworthy as well. Since he's on the same competitive level as the Generation of Miracles (a group that consists of five students who are a year younger than he is and are on a professional playing level) he could have gone to any high school that he wanted to. But, because he lives with his grandparents, he decided to go to a no-name school that was a lot closer to where they lived so it would be easier on them. When he was asked why he decided to come to Seirin instead of going to a school with an elite team he said: that as long as basketball is fun it doesn't really matter where he goes, and that devoting yourself to something is showing that you really enjoy it.

He's very persistent and when he wants to get something done, or to persuade someone, he will work very hard to achieve his goal(s). This is shown when he continuously asks Hyuuga to join the team he's forming at Seirin. He relentlessly asks the other despite getting turned down just as quickly as he asks him. His work ethic is tremendous too. Because of his strong will and dedication he is known as the Iron Heart in the basketball sporting world. Though, he honestly doesn't really like this nickname....

He will stake everything he has for the sport, even if it means ruining his own future with the sport. He's also extremely good at masking his pain and hiding it from his friends. During the Interhigh competition he sustained a knee injury towards the end of the game against Kirisaki Daiichi. Despite having to be taken to the hospital he told them all that it wasn't a serious injury and that he would be back in time for their next game. That of course, was all a lie, and he confided to Junpei Hyuuga (the captain and dear friend) that he wouldn't be able to play with them at all for the rest of his high school career if he took the corrective surgery. He then made a promise to Hyuuga that he would recover and help them get back on their track to being number one in Japan.

His teammates mean the world to him though, and he will do whatever it is to help support them. Whether they're in trouble or being threatened he will take on the entire damage by himself. This is especially evident when the team faces Kirisaki Daiichi again in the Winter Cup. He takes the brunt force of the team's foul play by himself just so he doesn't have to watch his team get hurt. When one of the first years falls sick he takes their place when they go to play streetball. He also helps Kuroko figure out where he stands on the team and with his own friendship with Kagami. Even if he doesn't directly tell him, he lets the other figure it out on his own.

At first glance Teppei can definitely come off dimwitted and a little bit air headed. But there is more to that than meets the eye. He does have his gullible moments though. There was the time where he literally thought that Kagami was a script writer for a play or a television show at one point; and then there was another time where he almost thought that Kagami's head would actually cave in from the pressure of patting his head too hard during their match against Yosen. When he got released from the hospital he showed up in his jersey because he was so excited to be back. He even wore his house slippers when he was playing one-on-one against Kagami to see who could play for the ace position. He is intelligent though, in his own unique kind of way of course, and often times gives the most straightforward advice ever.

He can, however, be very sneaky and sly when he wants to. During the match against Yosen he deliberately provokes Murasakibara by saying things that the other hates (saying how much fun the sport is and that he loves playing just for the fun of it) just so he could put his all into the game. Before the team was founded he challenges Hyuuga into playing one-on-one against him so he could get the other to realize how much he loves the sport. He wanted to make the other realize that he could still have fun and that playing with a team would help re-spark his love for the sport.

He's very humble too. Instead of rubbing his victory in Murasakibara's face he thanks him for the match, and then proceeds to tell him that he looks forward to playing against the other in the future. The same could also be said about his confrontation with Hanami (someone who plays in Kirisaki Daiichi), but he knows that the other was expecting a negative reaction out of him. So he instead chooses to take the high road, so to speak, and thanks him for the match as well. He basically kills the other with kindness and he knows that this type of reaction, a positive and humble reaction, would agitate him more than. He also apologizes to one of the team members in Kaijou for not partaking in the practice match Seirin had at the beginning of the school year. Even though he couldn't physically help that since he was still in the hospital at the time.

Teppei has a... very interesting relationship with captain Junpei Hyuuga. They have a push and shove friendship and are almost at a constant state of bickering. More so with Hyuuga than Teppei. That mostly has to do with Teppei's gentle nature and how he'll let someone run him over. Hyuuga also constantly reminds Teppei how much he hates the other too. Teppei however, sees through all that and knows that Hyuuga does care for him. Even though he basically created the team, he suggests Hyuuga would be better suited as captain than he would. He respects the other's calls and decisions, because he knows that Hyuuga cares about the sport just as much as he does. Even though he has a very.... roundabout way of showing it. When they do get into tiffs it's usually over nothing very serious. At one point during their match against Rakuzan they get into a little argument. Kagami expresses his concern over it, but Izuki tells him that it's nothing to worry about since they're able to keep their heads in the game and play off each other professionally.

Abilities/Powers: Teppei is a very skilled basketball player and is very knowledgeable with the sport. He's a part of the Uncrowned Kings; which is basically a term that was used to describe five players who were almost as strong as the Generation of Miracles. In fact, had they been born a year later they could have shaken things up immensely in the sporting world. And that's saying something since the Generation of Miracles are probably on par to professional basketball players.

Statistically speaking Teppei ranks an 8/10 in physical/special abilities and technique, a 6/10 in stamina, and a perfect 10/10 in mental strength. So he's very fit and can persevere in the heat of a match. This is, of course, not including when his old injuries get in the way. But he will do his best and put everything into the game until he physically can't do anything anymore. But, he's extremely durable as shown when he took the brunt force of all the constant foul play that was thrown at Seirin in their match against Kirisaki Daiichi. He was able to play through the first half of the game and part of the third quarter until his body couldn't physically take it anymore.

As a player Teppei possesses a very unique style when it comes to playing basketball. He's described as an odd ball center that possesses the pass sense of a point guard. His main position on the team is a Center (who's primary job in basketball is to stand underneath the basket for dunks and rebonds) but he originally wanted to play as a Point Guard (who's primary job is the complete opposite of a center as they are the furthest away from the basket). Originally he was going to play as center until a teammate suggested that he play both, and that it would be like supervising from underneath the basket. He's played both positions in the match against Yosen, which shows that he's a very versatile player.

As far as actual basketball skills go, Teppei has two special skills he's known for. The right of postponement and his vice claw. Teppei has abnormally huge hands, which gives him a great advantage for playing basketball. He basically has the ability to hold the ball with one hand, which helps him whenever he gets into a tight spot or if someone jumps to block a shot. And with that, he can change the course of his actions at the last section. So if he were aiming to shoot but someone jumped to block him, he could turn his hand and toss the ball behind him or to the side at one of his teammates instead. This sort of play makes him extremely unpredictable when he's handling the ball and he has tricked many a players with this right of postponement. The vice claw basically allows Teppei to grab the ball more easily when he's jumping for a rebound.

Items/Weapons: His basketball sweatpants and jacket, his Seirin duffle bag, and a water bottle.

Sample Entry: [needless to say teppei was very confused when he woke up in a room that wasn't his. in fact it didn't really make any sense at all! the conversation he had with his equally confused roommates left him with more questions than it did with any answers. but hey, he had a phone on him right? maybe he could... attempt to call home and get all of this sorted out.] Ahhh, this sure is a predicament I've gotten myself in to. [he sighs and with that, he quickly tries dialing a few numbers he has stored away in memory. he tries his home phone number first, and then quickly tries calling hyuuga and then riko shortly after. but all three attempts end in failure.]

Well I'm not going to find answers by staying cooped up in here.

[and with that he wanders outside the house and into the strange looking housing complex. phone in hand, he calls out to anyone who looks like they would be of some help.] Ah, excuse me! But I was wondering where we are. The other people in my room didn't really have any idea, and I tried calling home and to my other friends with this, [he gestures at the hand that's holding the phone.] but I couldn't really get in touch with them. I was in the middle of a game, and my teammates are counting on me to help them out. [he flashes a smile and gives a tiny bow.] Thank you in advance.

Sample Entry Two: Teppei had had terrible nightmares in the past that always somehow involved him re-injuring his knee. In fact he used to have them quite frequently when he stayed in the hospital. They always seemed to happen after an intensive day spent in the rehabilitation center. He remembered how many times he wanted to give up and throw the towel in and call it a day. But every time he got close to doing as such he would recall how his teammates looked after they lost their game when they came to visit him. It practically tore him apart, but it helped move him to at least get to a finishing point for the day.

He could easily mask his feelings whenever he was asked by a nurse why he looked so down, but he couldn't exactly mask or hide his feelings whenever Riko or Hyuuga were around. No matter how hard he tried they always seemed to know whenever he was having issues with the rehabilitation. Hyuuga would call him an idiot and Riko would scold him for potentially overdoing it, especially if his knee was already in so much pain. But he couldn't exactly give up and let those two and the rest of his teammates down now, could he?

Not after promising Hyuuga and Riko that he would make a speedy recovery in time for the next Interhigh tournament. As much as he wanted to be mad and upset with Hyuuga for telling the first years about what had happened he... was also touched by their sentiments at the same time. Hyuuga sure did take good care of the team while he was gone. Of course he knew the other had that kind of ability in him all along. It's one of the reasons why he knew the other would make such a great captain one day. All he need was a push in the right direction.

Seirin was a team Teppei wanted to protect from crazy players like Hanamiya. He played dirty, and he didn't want Hyuuga or the others to have to go through what he went through. The nightmares were difficult, but the rehabilitation was ten times harder. "This is going to be a difficult game, hmmn?"

He heaved a sigh as he used the lockers in the locker room for support as he clenched his throbbing knee. Why did it have to hurt now? He knew he had put strenuous effort on it during his match against Shuutoku, but.... why now of all matches did it have to ache so much? He couldn't afford to let Hanamiya and his teammates get the upper-hand. Not in this match, not today. He clenched his fist and slammed it against the lockers beside him. No. He wasn't going to let Hanamiya or any of the other players on his team harm his team. It wasn't going to happen. He'd rather let himself get hurt all over again if it meant he could protect his teammates. At least he knew what to expect this time around.

    Personality:
Kairi is an innocent and pure person; these traits also go alongside the fact that she is a Princess of Heart. She is pure of heart, so that naturally is shown through her personality. Usually, she wants to believe the best in people around her and she's sincere in her words and actions. There are generally no hidden meanings behind her words and no lies -- what you see of Kairi is really her.

However, that doesn't mean she can't have a mischievous streak in her. Her targets are Riku and Sora in particular; the first time the player sees her in the first Kingdom Hearts game, she hits Sora and calls him a lazy bum. When Riku points out that she is no better at him, she doesn't deny it, instead saying "so you noticed". The night before they plan on leaving Destiny Islands on the raft, she "jokes" with Sora by telling him that they should leave the Islands together right then. When he shows surprise, she admits that she was kidding. This streak carries on into Kingdom Hearts 2 -- albeit a little more subtly as she tells Riku that Sora's completely hopeless without the two of them.

When it comes to her friends, they are the most precious people to her. Riku and Sora are some of these friends that she's closest to -- she was willing to leave the place that she'd called home for so long to go with them, after all. While she didn't quite have the wanderlust like the other two, just traveling with them excited her. Even having the temptation of finding where she was from wasn't extremely strong. She liked it in Destiny Islands with her friends, more than enough to be satisfied. Her loyalty to her friends would cause her to follow them through many worlds, but she would also stay behind if she was told to.

To an extent, that is. While waiting on Destiny Islands, she began to wonder if waiting was good enough. It was for that reason that when the opportunity presented itself, she left the islands in search for Sora and Riku. This was a risk that Axel said took guts later on, because she literally jumped into a portal of darkness, after a dog, with no idea where she was going. She believed in her and Sora's promise with her whole heart; that they would be reunited again. It just came to be time that she took her own steps toward that goal.

To other people, Kairi is very friendly. She's generally not hesitant to reach out to people; for example, she became fast friends with the kids from Twilight Town. It didn't take her long to seem like they had known each other for longer than just a few hours. Around people who pose no threat to her and those she trusts, she's friendly and easy to make friends with.

However, that doesn't mean that she's gullible. Despite being told that she would be taken to Sora by Axel, she didn't believe him. She tells him that he isn't acting very friendly, and ends up following Pluto into another portal that had appeared instead. It was clear to her in Axel's mannerisms and tone of voice that he wasn't all he said he was going to be. That doesn't mean that there was a moment of pause, but ultimately she chose to run away from him rather than following him.

    Abilities/Powers:
As mentioned above, Kairi is a Princess of Heart. Not only does this reflect somewhat in her personality, but her heart doesn't have a shred of darkness in it. Besides that, combined with seven other Princesses of Heart, they are able to open a keyhole that would allow the person to access Kingdom Hearts.

Kairi is also able to wield a keyblade, something that was inherited from Aqua when she was young. This ability wasn't found out until Kingdom Hearts 2, so her fighting skills are severely lacking in comparison to Riku and Sora. However, she was still able to take out a few Heartless on her own. Any abilities that she may have in relation to her keyblade is unknown at the present time, seeing as it is only at the secret end of Dream Drop Distance that it's said that she's going to receive training for it.

    Items/Weapons:
    • Keyblade
    • the message in the bottle that was for Sora and Riku
    • paopu charm.

    Sample Entry:

Hello? Um...I'm sure everyone can hear me, so here goes nothing.

[She pauses to think, as if trying to figure out how to word what she was going to say next. But she figures it out pretty quickly.]

I'm looking for two people -- their names are Sora and Riku. Sora has brown spiky hair, is really sweet but kind of lazy sometimes. Riku has silver hair, and looks a little grumpy, but he's kind too, I promise! They're two of my best friends from home, so if you've seen them, please let me know. If no one's seen them, that's okay too.

[Being separated is kind of their Thing.]

If you don't know about them, if you could spare some information about Haven, I'd really appreciate it. I can't do anything in return for any of you right now, but I'll try to pay you all back somehow. For now, I'll just thank you all in advance.

[She smiles at the camera, as if to reinforce her words.]

    Sample Entry Two:
This wasn't her room, or her bed.

Kairi realized this pretty quickly, when the alarm goes off and she bolts upright from the bed she was in. She scrambled to turn it off, before taking everything in. This wasn't her room. This didn't even look or feel like Destiny Islands. Was her home destroyed again? A quick scan of the room said that she had some of her possessions at least, with the addition of a phone. However, though she had some familiar things, it didn't help with the panic surging in her mind. Her heartbeat quickened, and she staggered over to the window--

--To see the sad landscape of Haven. It wasn't like anything she'd ever seen before, and that doesn't help her panic either. The billboard just seemed to make matters worse. While the text were probably supposed to be comforting, but it only made her insides twist more.

No. She wasn't going to let herself panic so much. That never got her very far in the past, and it wasn't going to get her far now if she let herself spiral into a panic. So Kairi took a few deep breaths, gripping the edge of the windowsill as she closed her eyes for a few moments. When she got to the point where she didn't feel like her heart was going to jump out of her chest, she opened her eyes again. She was still scared, yes, but as long as she could keep her head she would be okay. As long as the Organization wasn't after her again, she could actually sit and think about her next move, instead of having to come up with something on the run. Not that she was wanting to take forever, but...

She regarded the phone she'd taken with her to the window, wondering what sort of help would be on the other end of the phone, if any. It wouldn't hurt to investigate this, anyway. So she takes one last deep breath, and turns it on and finds the record button to see who just might be on the other side of the phones here.

Hopefully she would find her friends as well.

Requested apartment: With Emma Swan pretty please!

Character Name: David Nolan/Prince Charming/....... David.
    Canon: Once Upon A Time
Canon Point: Mid 3x22, before Emma gets back from the past
Background/History: David on the OUAT wiki
Previous Game History: David's coming in with memories of having been in [community profile] exitvoid, however, with a canon update shoved in between leaving Exit Void and appearing in Haven.

David popped into EV fairly late in the game, and had only really been there for IC 2 or 3 months before things were coming to a close. The others he'd had from his canon in game were Snow White/Mary Margaret, Emma Swan, Gold/Rumpelstilskin, Neal, Jefferson, Belle, Henry Miles, Whale, Wendy Darling, Ariel, Hook, Peter Pan and Felix. So, about half his town. It was a party. Emma had been in the game for a long while before him and there were several 'GOOD WILL WIN IN THE END' chats with her that didn't go very well. Snow, however, was pretty close to new along with him, and they worked on forming a sort of school for the city (Zelien). They sought to teach a lot of survival type things and mostly just whatever might help people to survive in COMPASS run places. Also, to look out for people and give them some place they could go to not feel so lost, alone and hopeless.

His relationships that he'd have with a couple people that hard started out rocky were improved a bit in game. With Gold, they'd been getting along well and David already felt good about him before showing up, but he also reached out to tell Gold about his son and the fact Neal had forgiven him and their bond had been healed. Jefferson and David's last canon encounter had involved a lot of yelling and manhandling and ill will, really not having gotten along great before seeing each other again in Zelien. Jefferson had been in game for a long while, though, and helped out both Emma, Snow and Henry while David wasn't there and David began to feel very grateful and indebted to him, apologizing for how he'd treated him and began to try to make amends for it. Of course, he wasn't aware that Jefferson made out with his daughter, though, soooooo... that's a thing. David had also made a decent amount of new friends in game, having bonded some with D'Artagnan, Athos and Clary Fray. He almost got grenaded by Master Chief but they worked things out with a begrudging sort of respect. Fatami and David talked a while about how awesome his daughter and his wife were as well.

At one point, the campus that was safe territory in Zelien was transported to 28 Days Later London, complete with zombies and creepy sexual harrassment soldiers led by the Ninth Doctor. After making it to the military base, thinking they'd have safety for their loved ones there, David and Gold both got pretty quickly evicted from the base after extending some violence to the soldiers that didn't want to keep their hands to themselves. Moving out into the countryside, David and the OUAT cast with a few friends formed a Countryside Safe Haven, protected from zombies with Emma and Gold's magic, and David went ahead and invited FREAKING EVERYONE to it, despite Jefferson and Gold and Emma's frowning at him.

David wasn't much involved in endgame, so I'll be taking him from after campus was brought back to Zelien, just after the night he'd spent in the speakeasy, getting his drink on with his wife, dancing like a fool, chatting with his daughter about Hope and Things. He'd have been just passing out in his bed on campus, drunkenly curled up with Snow, before popping back in Storybrooke.

    [personal profile] weareboth 2014-06-17 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
    Personality:
The thing to really remember about Charming is that he grew up in a fairy tale land, where happy endings are common place and Good really does always win. This is something like a culture shock when he’s put into our world and made to deal with the kind of issues that happen there. I think it’s sort of a cool facet of the show, actually, to apply the idealistic Disney movie logic to the modern world, but either way, you want to remember that while looking at Charming as far as personality goes, because that’s the root of a lot of the motivations he has. When he has that ridiculous optimism or gives a ridiculously hopeful speech about Doing Good or Good Will Always Win, it’s not some shallow Hero statement - he really does believe this stuff, is strongly convicted with it, and has had the experience to make him believe that’s the case.

So, talking about that ridiculous optimistic; that’s one of the largest thing we see from him and Snow, an unshaken faith/hope always, and determination to find that Way Things Will Work Out (“I will always find you”\“You found me”\“Did you ever doubt I would”). It’s something that’s so much more prevalent in the two of them, and maybe Charming even more so than Snow, than in all the rest of the Enchanted Forest characters, which sort of makes them the motivational leaders, aside from the whole royalty thing. The town looks to them for guidance and they answer it with a hope they genuinely feel. David has an unshaken kind of confidence in the ‘we will find a way’ and ‘things will be okay’ idea, and often ends up being the hope and support that other characters need when things are looking really dark and people are worn down. Basically, if Prince Charming loses hope, you know you’re fucked.

David is absolutely an idealist. “Good will always win” is basically the mantra he chants in every episode where shit looks like it’s getting bad. He’s also The Support Guy, and goes to give inspiring chats to people feeling down and out, be it Abigail or Snow or Emma, etc. He gets determined on something and then it WILL BE A THING THAT HAPPENS, and he won’t be giving up until he achieves that goal. This is actually mentioned in canon by Ruby, after Jefferson’s hat is burned and David is worrying that he’ll never be able to get Emma and Snow back from the Enchanted Forest. Like his “I will always find you” thing with Snow - it’s not a question. He’ll do it. He’ll find her every time. Charming has absolute faith and confidence in that, to an absurd point that just has other people laughing at him, but. miraculously, it works out every time so far. With David it’s always Doing Things For The Right Reasons, even when he’s blackmailed to marry Abigail for the fate of the kingdom and his mother, he still can’t do something so dishonest and untrue to himself (though he does make sure mom is safe). It’s not only an honesty and morality in actions thing for him - it’s a choosing the right thing in his heart idea as well. Integrity is a huge thing to Charming and something he sees as a huge part of himself as well - to betray that integrity is to let go of pieces of himself and be untrue to who he is. He tries to inspire this in other people as well, always giving speeches about stuff like this and encouraging doing What’s Right, yada yada.

A pretty poignant thing about Charming as well is that he’s protective as fuck; of his family and his friends and the people around him. He’s capable of some serious fierceness, despite how gentle and sweet and Disney Princely of a person he is. When someone’s threatening a friend, David’s right there standing in front of them with sword in hand, growling for people to back the eff off. It’s also an emotional sort of protectiveness over his direct family, like with how he side-eyes people wanting to mack on Emma, or Whale having slept with Snow while they were under the curse, despite the fact neither had any memories of who they were. He gets pretty growly at Hook over Emma, and when Emma’s maybe marriage to a winged monkey comes up, he totally skips over the winged monkey part and goes straight for YOU WERE GONNA MARRY SOMEONE? He gets pretty Papa Wolf when the situation comes up. Do not touch his daughter or his grandson or anyone he has adopted, he will go papa bear on your ass no matter how huge and scary you are. As far as just aggression goes, this does come out in combat as well. Despite the whole Killing People Is Bad thing, if there’s a fight going on and he’s defending his family, he does totally stab some hos. I think it’s more of an execution thing that he has specific issue with - killing when it’s not strictly self defense. If he can avoid killing someone, he will, but if it’s life or death, it happens.

He can be pretty impulsive as well. While he has his iron Doing The Right Thing going on most of the time, David’s also pretty hugely emotional, and when something strikes him in a certain way (usually the death/loss/endangerment of a loved one), he can have an aggressive streak, like when he’s ready to cut the throat of the mermaid girl in Neverland. But, with David, it’s a lot more of a quick, intense flash of something that comes from a place of great emotion, anger and fear, rather than something he stews over for a long period of time and wrestles with. He’s more likely to jump the gun and get aggressive faster than Snow will, but in the longer term, he’s more settled in the ‘killing people doesn’t solve problems despite how satisfying of an idea it might be’ concept. If given time to think over it, he’ll usually go for the ‘this is wrong, let’s not do it’ option instead, with a couple exceptions (aka regina, especially post-curse break). He’ll also be more verbally aggressive as well, even if he doesn’t plan on going through with it. Granted, the line is sometimes sketchy here.

The whole Daddy Charming aspect is a big part of David as well. Being a father, though he’s only actually been one for, like, a yearish, is still a large part of his identity, even just with Henry and partially with Emma. He does make the awkward and obvious attempts at it like Snow does, and those are sad, but it’s also sort of a natural thing to him as well. It’s part of his protective, nurturing side that has him automatically Dad-ing at people, regardless of if they’re related to him or not. But most especially to Emma or Henry - always trying to be there as support or encouragement, or someone to cheer them up and cheer them on. I think it’s a kind of thing that brings him a lot of fulfillment and joy, really. He’s a goober like that. So he really does have the kind of loveable Dad side that’s just there to support you and make you smile and protect you from bad things like nightmares and bad boyfriends.

David totally fills in the whole Hero Dude trope, which is pretty much a given with the whole Prince Charming thing, but the fun thing about OUAT is that it offers more facets than that, and gives more human qualities to him. He’s not just the perfect hero, but he sure as hell tries to be. He’s always the one doing the actiony thing, fighting stuff, saving people, making grand gestures, etc. Valiant, determined are things. Strength of character and integrity is a huge thing to him, and it’s prevalent throughout his everything. He really is the Prince Charming trope whether he means to be or not; he’s just that good dude, and not as a consequence of being a prince (seeing as the prince that was actually raised as a prince was a massive douchecanoe), but just by means of how he developed through his life. He’s nothing special, just a guy who stands around and watches his sheep and loves his mommy. He’s self sacrificial; David will always make the lying down on the line to let the other guys crawl over you play, and he does it without a second thought - it’s just purely his nature. It’s not even a looking good thing. Charming just takes it as a given that this is what should happen. He infects himself with a sleeping curse to try to communicate with Emma and Snow in one episode, and then accepts dying from poison in Neverland as a viable cost to getting Henry home with Snow and Emma (doesn’t expect Snow to stay with him). Actual Disney Prince David Nolan.

David likes to Get Things Done. He’s very much the ‘you stay here, I’ll take care of this’ guy. If something needs doing, he’ll step up to the plate and make it happen, not only in physical conflict/battle kinds of scenarios, but also sometimes in social ones, like going to chat with Emma when he’s worried she’s being too down about things. He doesn’t tend to be invasive about stuff (mostly, at least), but more so goes to check on things, or put gentle nudges where they need to be.

This is not to say that Prince Charming doesn’t have his faults - he’s got plenty, despite being an Actual Disney Prince. One pretty assholish thing that he does is he’s pretty judgemental of the immoral; condescending, distrusting Bad People with the ability to change from the beginning. They have to start proving it to him before he’ll have real faith, and if they start going back on it he’s back to TSK TSKing in their direction. Another thing is he gets pretty one track minded; panicking and trying to save Snow when they disappear into Jefferson’s hat, while the townspeople are going nuts with the chaos in the city. He doesn’t mean to disregard them, it happens mostly on accident - he just isn’t very good at multitasking crises, and gets overwhelmed being the main leader. While he’s good with leading a single objective, juggling all the responsibilities of being The Prince can get him floundering. That and season 1 David Nolan has a bunch of shitty qualities; cowardly, uncertain, lacking conviction, lying, hurting people, selfish to a point. That’s still part of him and he treats it as things that remind him of the man he wants to be.

David’s also fairly pragmatic; in fighting, at least, he tends to be more on the side of being clever and plotty about things than just trying to out-skill or out-strength things. He’ll be more likely to be crafty about things (as seen in the episode where he has to go fight a dragon that has killed basically everyone so far). He also tends to get crafty on other peoples’ craftiness, namely Snow’s. When she goes to do something clever, like sneak off into the woods and hide from him, or go to a fancy castle for their honeymoon and then try to sneak away to do dangerous stuff. He’s presented as a leader for the people of Storybrooke; not something he was born as, but something he manages to end up as fairly well, for the people in Storybrooke and the Enchanted Forest, with some issue of juggling issues and trying to do The Right Thing, but he does try his best.

But he can be massively derptastic. Sometimes in him doing the right/heroy thing, he does get a little overzealous and… do something totally stupid and get himself caught in an impossible situation. He’s not always this dumb, but it does happen, and then he’s like... well shit. He does tend to get impulsive with things, especially when emotions/stakes are high, and jump into stuff only to then be like WELL I GUESS THIS WOULD BE A GOOD TIME TO RUN, PERHAPS I SHOULD WORK ON A NEW, SMARTER, PLAN WHILE I RUN FOR MY LIFE, AND ATTEMPT GO UPSTREAM ON SHIT CREEK WITHOUT A PADDLE. Y E P. I’M A GENIUS. He’s also a big fan of The Simple Life. Despite being princey and all, David wasn’t actually born a prince and doesn’t really like the royal life too much. He’s perfectly happy with being a shepherd forever, and doesn’t really do the whole pompous prince thing that might have been expected of him (that his brother James did), because that wasn’t his life. At all. He’s actually pretty damn Farm Boyish and this comes out when he’s really direct and sort of rural about things, especially during the period where he’s acting as Sheriff.

David’s basic life philosophy is that life is a collection of moments, good and bad, and I absolutely love this about him. He’s a little scene that expresses this in the show:

David: There’s more to life than just looking for the next fight. Life is made up of moments - good ones, bad ones, but they’re all worth living.
Emma: Well, I seem to be a magnet for the bad ones
David: Then all the more reason to look for the good ones in between the bad ones.

This is why Charming’s theory is ‘we are both’ when it comes to Storybrooke versions and Enchanted Forest versions of everyone - maybe he was a massive douche as David Nolan, and maybe it was a terrible time, but it was still part of who he was and a stage in his life that he doesn’t want to give up. David Nolan and the bullshit he did as him was still him, and maybe it wasn’t the best time, but he lived it and learned from it and it’s a piece of his life. He wouldn’t trade Charming for David or David for Charming.

As for how David speaks to people and relates verbally, he can be pretty smarmy. He’s a deadpan snarker, basically. He’ll be wry and sarcastic in his humor, not outright silly or scathing. Just dry, mostly, and sometimes a good natured kind of quirky and dorky. And he is, actually, fairly charming, but in an awkward, goofy sort of way. Not really the smooth, suave thing. Alse. he’s socially Chill; everyone calls him Charming. His name is not Charming. He isn’t really that bothered by it. People make fun of him and he’s kind of like eh w/e, unless it’s something pretty serious/offensive/making fun of someone he loves that isn’t him. Pride/machismo is not a big deal with him - if he gets aggressive it’s for different reasons than image preservation.

The last thing I want to make sure I cover is his relationship With Snow, as that’s a pretty huge part of his life and a big influence and motivation and source of support and inspiration. They balance each other out pretty well - where Snow lacks certain traits, David makes up for it, and the same vice versa. They really are a team. He’s actually sometimes is the one telling Snow ‘how about we back off some’ in situations, but then again, sometimes Snow has to do the same to him if it’s a situation that pushes his buttons more than hers. They have that kind of give and take and covering for each other balance as a couple. They are also madly, deeply in love - attached to each other and feeling the same pain when one of them is hurting. Snow is absolutely the most important person to him, and the first person he’ll go to about anything. They share everything, and get pretty lost without the other around.

Abilities/Powers: David is fairly plain - he doesn't have any special abilities or magic. He knows combat pretty well, along with horse riding, and survival skills in nature. He has diplomacy from Princely things, but other than that, he's pretty baseline.

    Items/Weapons:
    - David's sword
    - Handgun in shoulder holster he uses for Sheriffy things
    - Granny's apple pie. Again.

Sample Entry: Intro from Exit Void!

    Sample Entry Two:
So, this is definitely not Granny's. This is the apple pie he'd been trying to finish off at Granny's during Neal's coronation party, just after his daughter had just walked out on a fairly unfortunate conversation, and this is the fork he was using, and clothes he had on, and the sword now propped up against the bed he's lying in is the one that was sitting next to the booth but... still not Granny's. Unless some serious redecorating went on in the last... half a second, in the theme of 'crappy college dormitories'. The other thing this place is not? It's not Zelien, or London, or any of the other ridiculous places COMPASS had sent them while they were prisonders there. It's not Neverland, or the Enchanted Forest, and he's assuming it's not Oz, as he blinks dumbly at the plate of pie sitting innocently on his chest, while he grumbles awake on his bunk. Just... sitting there. Like nothing in the world is wrong. Uh huh.

But this is Granny's apple pie. Again. As it begins to dawn on him how very similar this situation is to a previous impromptu multiversal abduction (sans incoming cultist raid and huge, creepy looking cargo ship in the background), David's eyes roll towards the heavens, and he's flopping back heavily against his slightly lumpy pillow with a groan, tone exasperated. "What do the worlds have against me ever getting to finish my pie?"

Not that David's incredibly new to popping into a new world every now and again, but not in the middle of doting on his new infant son, finishing up the chat about what to name to settled on for him. Speaking of, the last time this happened, his wife, his friend, his daughter, his grandson, and a good handful of others from Storybrooke had made it through with him. Considering the company he was keeping, David's pretty quick to snap up in bed, neatly tossing the pie across the room, but he's able to save it before real damage is done. His son, Neal, is far, far too young to be engaging in the family habit of ridiculous realm jumping shenanigans, and loathe as he is to be separated from his newborn (again), he'd be happier knowing he's still safe at home. Preferably, with his mother, but you never know.

"Snow? Henry?" They'd been in the booth with him, but there's no gaurantee they came through with him. Still, if they're here, David needs to find them first and foremost. All the rest can come after, but once they're together, they can face whatever they got dropped into here as a family. Before he goes skimming his still waking eyes around the room, the plate is set to the side on the mattress, and David's stretching his legs, starting to swing them over the side of the bunk.

He's going to finish that pie later. After he finds his family.

    Personality:
Chouza is the “straight man” to Uzume's idiot, and to when anyone else in their group act incredibly stupid. If someone says or does something idiotic, he's the first one to retort with common sense. He's the first one to scold someone when they do something that they shouldn't have done. He's the type of guy to use a lot of sarcasm, and he is not easily impressed. Otherwise, he is a pretty calm guy, who effortlessly acts like an Uzume-dictionary to when he says the wrong word and no one gets what he tries to say. His own reasoning can be a bit off too, sometimes, with a simple example being when Kuroha tells him to kill a child and he refuses because the weather is nice.
But of course, there are things that triggers roaring laughter even from him. Like when Kuroha lost her mask, and painted a face on a bag that she used instead. It was just so wrong, weird and hilarious to see Kuroha looking like that. And sometimes, Uzume's silly personality amuses him.

It's difficult for him to trust people, and the scars run deep. He can only trust someone that proves themselves worthy of that trust. Because of the pain he has suffered both mentally and physically ever since he was small, he didn't know that people were possible of being trusted, he didn't understand how some people could put their life in someone else's hands. But then he met and got to know Uzume, who trusted even less than he did, and the more time they spent together, the more they became friendly with each other. Before he knew it, after Minamo joined their group, Choua trusted Uzume. When he likes and trusts someone, he cares a lot about them, and notices when they are down or feeling lonely or depressed, and tries to cheer them up. But he also knows when they need to be left alone.

He's a bit of a worrywart, but he doesn't realize it himself. He says that he knows that his friends are strong, and can take care of themselves just fine. But then he says that they have to look for them, and in that way, he worries about them. For instance, he knows that while Uzume is extremely strong, he is also extremely stupid. He protects those that he cares completely about, even if he has to sacrifice his own life, and if someone hurts someone important to him, he will not forgive. He spoils Uzume terribly, even though he tells Utsuho not to spoil Pochi. And Chouza knows that he spoils Uzume, and even use “should I stop spoiling you, then?” as something of a threat at more playful times.

He has killed a lot of people, but from the start, he didn't do it just to kill, he did it to survive. As Yakuma notes, Chouza is not a cold-blooded killer who only kills for the sake of it. Sure, while he was with Kuroha's group, he killed without reason because Kuroha told him to and it was easy, because he hated people, but after he was locked up in the Castle of no Return with Yakuma, he started to think, and changed. He didn't want to kill for no reason anymore, and started wanting to protect. People, too. While he still doesn't like people, and have a hard time warming up or even trusting someone in the slightest, he's getting used to the thought of actually havign a family that doesn't want to hurt him.

Because of the tattoo that was placed on him when he was a child, Chouza was attacked to both mind and body by people who had been harmed by his father, or who knew who's child he was. Because of this trauma, he can't handle people seeing his tattoos. If his bangs are pulled from his face and his tattoos become visible to see, he freezes up and can't move, tenses and shivers. It's a fear hard to cure, and the only way for him not to react like that is to be really used to the people, to trust them completely and be used to that they look at his tattoos. This far, the only ones that he can stand looking at them are Uzume and Minamo, even if he is still very uncomfortable with it. He knos that it's a liability that he freezes up, but he does not want to have people look at the tattoos, and thus it's hard for him to get used to people looking. But if someone forcefully shows his tattoos, he gets extremely pissed off, and threatened to kill even Uzume if he dared to do that again.

He's not that easily frightened, and doesn't care much for ghost stories. He doesn’t' get scared by them, even if he can get unnerved, especially if his friends vanish out of his sight right after, for example, having heard a story about people vanishing. He does get scared when people suddenly appear, like Minamo did, appearing in the darkness with only her face visible in the torch light. But sometimes, people scare him. Kuroha, for example, is an incredibly scary woman, even if she wears a weird face when she throws knifes at him. Strong people, who he can feel are stronger than him just by looking, also make him uneasy, and he would rather not fight those people, even if he wouldn't hesitate to if he found his friends being hurt by them. It also scares him when people talk about their own brain melting – which Yakuma did – with a straight face and even a smile.

He doesn't really believe in good lies, which Utsuho uses, but if necessary, he will use lies to get out of trouble. It's not that he's a very skilled liar, like many of his friends, but because he has spent so much time around liars that he has been infected – not that he would ever admit that he has been infected, but he has been, none the less.

He is pretty easily embarrassed, and sometimes when he acts serious and is very cool, it is ruined by someone elses comments, and Chouza ends up being completely flustered. When he apologize for something, he does it a bit stubbornly and pouty, but that's because he is embarrassed.
