Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE
We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.
In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.
While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

Chiyo | Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon (Reserved; 1/3)
Contact Info:
Other Characters Played: N/A
Requested apartment: N/A
Character Name: Chiyo
Canon: Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon
Canon Point: After Seto finds her ring for her.
(Reserved; 2/3)
Personality: Chiyo is a very mysterious girl that Seto meets on his journey, and very little is known about her. Initially, by appearance alone, you would think she looks like a pretty and formal girl. However, she comes across as cold and mistrusting, unwilling to allow Seto to progress further in the hotel she haunts. She's reluctant to be of assistance to others, and has trouble believing in others, especially if it's someone that she's only just met. You're a stranger, she doesn't know you, and thus has no reason to want to trust or help you. What you do is your own business, so she would prefer it if you just left her be. If you want to gain her trust, then you have to prove that you are someone reliable and worth putting her faith in, even if these "tests" might just be mischievous attempts to waste your time and deter you from getting any closer.
However, under her cold exterior, in truth, she was a sad and lonely woman. The true reason why she acts the way she does is because she did not want anyone to get close to her and the room she was guarding that held her body, acting as a protector over it. When she was alive, she was once a bright young girl in love, engaged and soon to be wed to a man she dearly loved. However, her happiness was taken away from her due to the worldwide tragedy caused by the Glass Cage Project, as nearly all life on the planet was wiped out. Despite surviving the initial event and gaining the ability to move as a ghost outside of her body, her loved one ceased to be and she thus never left the hotel they died in. Thus, drifting somewhere between life and death, she has no choice but to stay and dwell with her memories while guarding the room that held her body.
Thankfully, Seto was able to gain her trust and return to her the wedding ring she lost during that horrible time, which helps remind her of the happiness she had with her loved one before they died, which grants her peace. As such, upon recognizing one's sincerity and kindness, she is now able to open up and become more friendlier. Despite her young appearance, she proves to be very wise, saying that, despite how short and cruel life can be, it's important to hold onto the happiness that you gain as a result. Cherish the good memories, not the bad ones like she had done before. Due to her manner of speech during moments like these, she almost seems motherly, wanting to encourage the young people she's met to keep pushing forward and to do their best to live, and not become sick and bitter like her as a result.
It's doubtful that she'll now be trusting people right from the get-go, and while she's not too cheerful or extremely nice, that doesn't mean she's cruel either. She's just a girl that's lost somewhere between heaven and earth, drifting along until she can finally pass on in peace.
Abilities/Powers: Technically speaking, Chiyo didn't start out as a ghost--she's more like the astral projection of an old woman who was bedridden after the events that led to the end of human civilization. You see, when Glass Cage happened, while some people immediately died, others did not. Chiyo was one of those few who managed to survive the incident. Those who survived or were born after the incident could be granted the power of "empathy", an ability that should have enabled someone to connect with people without words, immediately knowing their true feelings and being able to see their memories. However, using this power caused many of those people to die in their sleep after using it. Chiyo instead appears to have figured out a different way of using it though by astral projecting outside of her body in a more ghostly form. She wasn't dead, but she wasn't really "alive" either, simply existing outside of her body and left to simply watch over it, doing what little she could to keep it from becoming an actual corpse.
Despite this, she has all the traits of a ghost such as floating, making herself invisible when she so chooses, and moving through walls and other objects, things of that nature. It also appears that she can manipulate her appearance, choosing to look like a young girl rather than the way her actual body is now that of an old woman, or at one point when Seto first meets her, appearing as if she is holding hands with silhouettes of paper dolls. She is not a malicious entity, however, so she does not normally do things that would be able to bring harm to others, mostly just being a little spooky. And, of course, she can't really die under conventional means, considering that she is practically a ghost. However, due to this form, this means that she doesn't eat or sleep, among the many other comforts of being a living human.
Items/Weapons: Her clothing; in particular, a purple kimono, the two orange flower hair-clips in her hair, and a silver ring.
(Reserved; 3/3)
Oh, dear. [She moves back--now you should be able to see what appears to be a young girl with blue hair and orange flower clips.] So this is how the people here communicate with one another...well, hello then.
[She simply looks at the camera for a little while longer in silence, before sighing.]
You'll have to forgive me, but I'm not used to speaking with others. In fact, I didn't actually intend to speak with anyone here right now. I was just inspecting this device when it turned on. Still... [And here, there's a tiny smile.] I can't help but wonder what that boy would say, if he was here to see so many people at once...
[But then the smile fades, and she seems disinterested again.]
Well, that's it. I've said what I wanted to say. I don't know if anyone's actually watching or listening, but I'll be going now. Goodbye.
[But she doesn't turn off the phone. She simply abandons it, going out of frame. The camera stares at empty space for a while, before it eventually times out.]
Sample Entry Two: By now, she had thought that seeing death didn't affect her anymore. After all, most of humanity had died in the world she knew, and even she herself may as well be dead by now, just a ghost of her former self. People live, and then they die. That was the natural order of things.
Still, she did feel a twinge of pity--no, sympathy, for some of these people, listening to them as they lamented and cried for their fallen friends. It was never easy to watch someone cry over the loss of a loved one, even if the person they cried for was someone she didn't even know. Still, there was nothing that she could do except watch, like a distant observer to the matter.
Though, there is one thing that Chiyo was at least grateful for: at least that boy, Seto, wasn't here in such a terrible place. Sure, there may have been people here, but...
Absently, she touched the ring she wore on her hand. At least he wasn't here either. She couldn't bear to imagine the kind of face her beloved would wear if he had been brought here. It was better to imagine that, wherever his spirit had gone by now, he was still smiling just like he used to. Or maybe he was still lingering somewhere back in the hotel...ah, it was strange to think that she was starting to become nostalgic for that dusty old hotel she had haunted before.
But, that was the past, and this was now. Thinking about such sentimental things would not bring back these people who had died now, or wipe away the tears of the people that were crying over their friends here in Haven.
And so, Chiyo quietly turned her back to it, floating off into the darkness.
