We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

And an additional link! Normally I wouldn't consider this a valid sample (the thread is short and the style doesn't mesh with Haven's!), but this thread displays important character traits that do not come to light in normal play situation, and it makes for a good sample of the attitude Noya is likely to take during emotionally taxing situations, his harshness and his way of encouraging people, so I feel like it's an important extra to add! I am however 100% up to writing a new sample from scratch to display those traits if you prefer!

Sample Entry Two:

For every Japanese high school student, school festivals are magical experiences. They're made great and wonderful and perfect by the effort everyone puts through, but most notably and more importantly, by the high chance of a maid cafè with cute girls dressed up for the occasion being run.

It’s a staple, after all, and Noya had waited pretty much the entire year for it.

He'd waited and waited, only to find out that this year, the class who was holding a maid cafè had decided on putting girls in dashing butlers outfits, and boys in cute skirts and thigh-highs. And while that hadn't been enough for him to decide against visiting one (girls in suits were just as hot, of course), it did mean he was going to bump his number #2 favourite event to the first place instead.

And of course, the special #2 just so happened to be the kissing booth -- which he went to visit as soon as it opened, wearing a determined expression on his face. Now, there was no way Nishinoya would have ever had the courage to actually, really kiss a cute stranger -- but dreams are sweet things, and he’s always been a dreamer. Beside, he was carrying someone else’s wish on his shoulders as well.

"It's today ... my chance to live the magic of youth's romance has finally come!! Wish me luck, Ryuu!!"

He muttered to himself before taking a deep breath, trying to focus, keep his senses sharp and remind himself of his friend who should have been right there with him. His friend, Tanaka Ryuunosuke, who couldn't have joined him because of unfortunate last-minute illness. And although he’s wasn't there with him now, Noya liked to think that by calling out his name he was making him share the experience with him. At the very least, it was a way to make him part of it.

"I will do it", he repeated over and over in his mind. "I’ll have a romantic kiss for my sake as well as Ryuu’s!".

Stepping right into the booth, Noya braced himself for what he knew was coming (or rather, he hoped): a sexy bombshell who was a little shy, but ready to take everyone's kisses in order to spread hope, joy and beauty in the life of unpopular boys like him. To the back of his mind, he even dared to hope that perhaps they would chat a bit and fall for one another.
But that was a silly thought, wasn't it? Just thinking about him made him smile, though, despite the flush that inevitably made way on his face.

"Ow, come on now, Nishinoya Yuu!!" he said while slapping his cheeks energically, making sure he would feel the sting of it. "Get a grip on yourself! There’s no way you’ll get a girlfriend just like that! This is no time to start fantasizing just like that, damn it!"

"It sure would be nice though, huh? … yeah."

He took another deep breath, trying to focus on the kissing booth standing right in front of him instead. He had a mission to accomplish, and no intentions of turning back now. For his friend's sake, he will have his first kiss.
