RESERVATIONS ARE OPENED!
NOTE: APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED OR PROCESSED FOR APRIL, DUE TO A CURRENT DISCUSSION ON THE GAME'S FUTURE.
RESERVATIONS WILL REMAIN OPEN FOR A LONGER PERIOD.
MAY APPLICATION CYCLE WILL BE POSTED HERE AS SOON AS IT IS DETERMINED.
We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.
In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.
While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

After returning to X-Factor, Rictor and ‘Star find themselves as part of a team in flux. Rahne and Terry are gone and Alex is literally packing his bags. This is only relevant due to the fact that Rictor and his remaining teammates participate in dropping water balloons on Alex as he’s leaving. This is what serves as team-building exercises at X-Factor. Sometime after that Pip the Troll, resident desk worker and secret badass of X-Factor, is shot in the head by a woman named Vera outside of the office. Despite this, he’s still somehow breathing. Lorna and Rictor argue over whether or not to take him to the hospital. This becomes useless when it turns out that Pip transferred his personality into Monet, the team psychic.
After a brief conversation explaining the differences between human and troll physiology, Longshot finds the bullet that shot Pip and uses it to determine the location of the shooter. ‘Star teleports the team to that location, which happens to be a botanical garden where they are surrounded by Vera and her demonic sidekicks. Threats are thrown and then the ground begins opening up and ooze lava like a mini volcano. Pip, in Monet’s body, gets Rictor and ‘Star off the ground for a moment until Monet starts fighting for control of her body and drops them. Rictor and ‘Star attempt a ground assault, however Rictor opens up another fissure of lava after using his powers. Monet swoops in to save them, however Rictor assumes Pip is still in charge, which enrages Monet so much she throws Rictor aside. Luckily, his fall is stopped by Lorna. Battles with demon creatures happen and the tides turn when Jaime and tons of his dupes show up. Also, Rictor uses his powers to shake the demon creature formally known as Vera to death in order to save ‘Star. Finally, the mini volcano, which has grown huge, erupts and out of it comes six figures that no one can make out who basically vanish into the night.
Sometime later, Rahne and Tier return to X-Factor and are welcomed back. This lasts all of ten seconds before Darwin busts in and tries to kill Tier, again. Jaime is able to talk him down, and close on the heels of that their missing, soulless teammate, Guido, also makes his reappearance. Guido is working with a demon woman named Jezebel, and they too are trying to kill Tier. However, before they can the war begins and Rictor and co. are teleported to the realm where the six Hell Lords are waiting. Rictor and his team battle the Lords for a while in an attempt to protect Tier. However, Mephisto, ruler of the Underworld, gets his hands on Tier. But before he can kill the boy his daughter, Jezebel, shoves a sword through his chest before grabbing X-Factor and teleporting out. Once back on earth, Jezebel recounts to the team how the Hell Lords where constantly battling for power until they got tired of the constant warring. They decided that they would wait until the birth of the seventh billionth individual on earth, and whoever killed them would get supreme rule over all the other lords and their dominions. Tier is the lucky seventh billion individual.
Thus begins a string of Hell Lords and their minions who hunt the team down. Rictor and his team fight, but Jezebel says that the way to end the war is for Tier to kill all of the Hell Lords. Reluctantly, Tier does join the fight despite the team being split on whether or not they want to encourage a child to murder demons. Meanwhile, Mephisto has taken the surviving Hell Lords captive and has deemed himself the winner of the war and taken up base on Earth. Unable to accept this, Rictor and co. go to Mephisto’s base to take him down. Or, attempt to as Mephisto quickly captures Tier in a barrier of fire. ‘Star rushes Mephisto in hopes of acting as a distraction but gets blasted out of existence. Enraged, Rictor reacts by rushing in after him and shares the same fate.
You thought it ended there? Why no! Turns out Mephisto is a bigger dick than we thought, and instead of just killing ‘Star and Rictor he teleported them to ‘Star’s home world, the Mojoverse, named for its leader. When we catch up with Rictor he’s been taken captive by Mojo and forced to participate in gladiatorial games. The fight begins between him and his latest opponent, but he’s caught off guard by how familiar the stance and body movements of his opponent are. Rictor uses his power against his foe, knocking the guy’s helmet off. Surprise! It’s Shatterstar. And he doesn’t seem to recognize Rictor. ‘Star continues the fight and nearly has Rictor pinned down until he’s attacked from behind by Longshot, who also doesn’t recognize Rictor, and a group of rebels who take ‘Star and Rictor out of the arena.
They’re brought to the laboratory of Arize, the creator of everything. It turns out that ‘Star dropped from the sky one day and Arize took it upon himself to clone him, a lot, to help fill the ranks of the rebels. Rictor looks on as ‘Star is put in a pod-shaped bed while Arize works to get his brain back “on-line” after Mojo messed with it. Finally, ‘Star wakes up with his memories of Rictor restored just in time for Mojo and his forces to storm Arize’s lab. ‘Star teleports himself and Rictor back in time, so they’re still in Arize’s lab, just at an earlier time point. They run into a very pregnant Dazzler, who is going into labor. When ‘Star doesn’t seem very surprised by this Rictor questions him and he admits that Dazzler is giving birth to him. Sometime later, baby ‘Star is delivered and adult ‘Star is fixing up some of the lab machinery so that they can wipe Dazzler’s memory of being pregnant, then take off to the future and drop the baby with the people who raised ‘Star in order to ensure that history plays out the way it needs to. We’re led to assume Rictor reluctantly goes along with it.

In fact, while he values the lives of the people he loves beyond all else, he doesn’t place the same value on his own life. He’s exhibited suicidal tendencies on more than one occasion, including nearly trying to kill himself and Tabitha so they wouldn’t fall back into the Right’s hands. However, these tendencies became even more apparent after he lost his powers during M-Day. He fell into a deep depression that led him to nearly jumping off a building to his death. To him, his powers are an extremely important part of who his is, not just as a mutant, but as a person. Part of what he defined himself with was his connection to the earth. And when he lost that he felt utterly alone, even after joining X-Factor. Even though he eventually learned to make do without his powers by relying on new skills, and despite the fact that he now has his powers back, these are not issues that have gone away. He may be happier now, but there is always a chance he can fall back into depression and suicidal tendencies, especially since he has never attempted to get help with dealing with these problems. In fact, it is unlikely he even believes himself to have a problem.
Rictor, for the most part, is very laid back and very sarcastic. Most of what comes out of his mouth are snarky replies to what people are saying. However, he can be very serious when the situation calls for it and can be depended on to lend an ear or a shoulder to cry on to his friends. Because he’s so estranged from his family, due to his part in trying to ruin the family business, his friends are all the family he has and he treats them as such. His relationships with Rahne Sinclair and Shatterstar are especially important to him. Rictor developed romantic feelings for Rahne when they were teenagers and a part of him never completely got over those feelings, despite the fact that she has walked out on him more than once. He has always forgiven her and welcomed her back. Even when she lied to him about being the father of her baby he got over it and declared himself the kid’s uncle. She will always be someone that he cares about and wants to protect.
Shatterstar is Rictor’s best friend turned boyfriend. They met during their X-Force years and quickly bonded over TV and taught each other their native languages. Rictor became ‘Star’s mentor of sorts in showing him how to be ‘normal’. They formed such a deep bond that even after Rictor left X-Force, he still came back to be with ‘Star while he was suffering through an identity crisis. At some point, their relationship became romantic and that was how Rictor discovered he was gay. However, after being reunited during X-Factor, their relationship changed a bit. ‘Star wants to be with Rictor while also having an open relationship and that doesn’t sit well with Rictor. He wants a monogamous relationship and it angers and frustrates him to see ‘Star flirting with other people. He doesn't quite understand why ‘Star feels the need to be with other people and so that is definitely a point of contention between them.
He is also a man capable of extreme bouts of stubbornness. Even when he knows he’s beat he’ll keep trying to fight or fire off a sarcastic remark. He hates to feel useless, which becomes very apparent after the loss of his powers, and he will do whatever he can to keep from feeling that way, even if it means putting himself at risk. He is very much a shoot first and talk later kind of guy, which is basically how he handles his emotions as well. He is very quick to anger. If he’s angry or frustrated he deals with it by picking fights, drinking, or brooding. He also handles feeling vulnerable by getting angry and lashing out, much like he did to ‘Star when confronting him about their relationship. Despite not wanting to come off as mushy, he does have a softer side that comes out sometimes for the people he loves. These are usually little moments that you could blink and miss, but they’re there, like the time Rictor became upset that Rahne wouldn’t be returning to X-Factor with him and ‘Star.
He is also extremely intelligent and a damn fine detective. He’s got great instincts and his suspicious nature keeps him from being an easy target. He’s one of the only people to be suspicious of Layla Miller during the time she spent with X-Factor as a teen. While everyone was sure she was just a kid, he knew something more was up with her. He was also the one who found Terry after she’s been kidnapped by following clues. He can also adapt his manner and speech patterns during situations where he needs a disguise, like he did while gathering intel from one of the Mutant Response Division troops camped outside of the X-Factor office.

Rictor is also competent in hand to hand fighting, most of which he picked up from training with Cable and X-Force during his teens. This is also an ability he’s had to hone during the time he was without his powers. He is also good with handling a gun, a weapon he previously had a lot of distaste for due to his family’s gunrunning business. Rictor is also good with computers and a competent hacker. He’s had to use his hacking skills more than once while on missions for X-Factor. He’s also good at disguising himself and showed his skill with undercover work during the Messiah Complex event where he infiltrated an enemy base posing under an alias.

Sample Entry: Here.
Sample Entry Two: He’d been in Haven for close to two weeks now and was already sick of the monotony. All he’d done for the past couple of days were sit on the couch and stare at his phone. It was not like there was much else to do aside from scavenging. Everything in the apartment, except for the furniture, was broken or didn’t work. He could have gone outside but it would be much the same out there. No matter where he went he couldn’t escape how sparse everything felt. There was life, but not enough of it to compare to what he felt back home. It was like this place was beginning to get over an illness that had consumed it, but it still had a long way to go.
Maybe he should have been happy that things were so dull at the moment. He’d heard some people’s horror stories about this place and he wasn’t in any hurry to experience them first hand, but he couldn’t help but want something to happen. He knew it would, eventually. He could feel it in his bones like he had every day he’d been locked up in that cell by Mojo. And, well, patience had never been a virtue of his. So it came as a relief when his roommate said he was pulling together a scavenging party to go to Haven North. Rictor had heard about the subway tunnels and the monsters and it had sounded like just the thing to break up his routine of nothingness.
Arming himself with the only weapon he had, the sword he’d been given in the Mojoverse, he marched with the others into the tunnels. He’d been told beforehand how tight the tunnels could get and figured it was better not use his earthquake ability unless absolutely necessary. Nothing attacked them until about an hour into the trip. Rictor hadn’t been sure what to expect since descriptions of the monsters always seemed to differ. What they ended up fighting were mucous covered creatures that looked like second cousins to the Blob. They swarmed the group and everyone began shooting and cutting in earnest, but it only seemed to do minimal damage to the creatures. Rictor slashed and hacked as hard as he could, venting all the anger and frustration that had built up over the past few weeks.
He’d thought they’d finally been safe. Once they’d gotten baby ‘Star where he needed to be they could have finally gone home and assessed the damage. Find out what had happened to their friends, to X-Factor. He’d thought that after four months of fighting for his life that he would actually get to go home. But instead he’d only traded one hell for another and he didn’t know if he’d ever be able to leave this one. He could die here. He would probably die here. But he sure as hell wasn’t going down without a fight.
Rictor didn’t know how long the fight had been going on, but he was getting sick of it. It was time to finish it. He’d made sure to brief the other members of the party on what he could do, for their own safety. He needed them to know what to do in the event that he used his powers so no one would get mistakenly caught in his path. After finishing off the blob creature he was fighting he called for a retreat. That was all the signal the others needed to stop fighting and get to a spot somewhere behind Rictor. His hands began glowing as he called up the energy from his body. He moved fast, directly targeting the blobs, and sending shockwaves through their bodies. They convulsed, slowly at first, and then faster until they exploded into piles of goo one by one. Rictor breathed hard and let the energy built up in him slip away.
“Everyone might want to watch their step.”
