APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The next processing date is Friday 11th October

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.

Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

Re: Bobby Singer - Supernatural - Not Reserved

[personal profile] salvages 2012-11-25 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Taken at face value, Bobby Singer is just that crusty old dude who runs an auto salvage yard near Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He's a loner who drinks, has occasional run-ins with the law, and you probably don't want to get too close to his creepy old house, because if appearances can be trusted, it's probably haunted. But you can't judge the proverbial book by its cover. And when it comes to ghosts or vampires or anything else that goes bump in the night, Bobby Singer's house is probably the last place you would find one.

Bobby is a hunter - think more along the lines of ghosts and demons than Bambi. And he’s one of the best and oldest in the business. And though very few hunters can expect to die of old age, Bobby has made it as far as he has thanks in large part to knowledge (and maybe just a little bit of dumb luck). His house is a library of myths, legends, and religious texts from a wide range of belief systems. When a hunter needs to identify something, needs to know how to kill it, Bobby Singer is the man to call.

"Family don't end with blood, boy."

This support extends beyond the "professional" though. Despite his fear of fatherhood because of his own abusive father, Bobby has been like a second one to the Winchester brothers. He's rough, tough, but ultimately warm-hearted, which means he often gets pulled into dangerous, even suicidal schemes. He tries to be the voice of reason, but he's also practical enough to know that there's work to do, and guys like them are the only ones who can do it. Bobby can always be counted on to back them up. But sometimes he can be a little too dependable.

Bobby: "Sam, Dean, I love you like my own. I do. But sometimes you two are the whiniest, most self-absorbed sons of bitches I ever met. I'm selfish? Me? I do everything for you. Everything! You need some lore scrounged up, you need your asses pulled out of the fire, you need someone to bitch to about each other, you call me and I come through every damn time! And what do I get for it? Jack! With a side of squat!"
Dean: "Bobby -"
Bobby: "Do I sound like I'm done? Now look, I know you've got issues. God knows, I know. But I got a news flash for you: you ain't the center of the universe! Now, it may have slipped your mind, but Crowley owns my soul, and the meter is running, and I will be damned if I am gonna sit around and be damned! So how about you two sack up and help me for once?"

Bobby can have a morose side to him. He still carries the guilt over being forced to kill his wife, the love of his life - not once, but twice. He hasn't been able to save everyone either, something that a lot of hunters struggle with. It was Bobby’s own mother who taught him that people almost never thank you when you save them. When he lost the use of his legs and was confined to a wheelchair, he felt useless and depressed, cynical about the future to the point that he considered killing himself. Sarcasm also comes second nature to him.

He has a temper, and it might be explosive at times. But at the end of the day, if Bobby yells and calls you an idjit it's because he cares about you. And once he does care, he'll have your back until his last breath.

Abilities/Powers:
"Don't try to con a con man."

Bobby has all the usual skills of a hunter. He knows his way around guns and knives and knows how to track. He can pick locks and impersonate police/FBI/CIA. And his many years of experience have given him something that a lot of younger hunters don't have - knowledge. If you need to identify a monster or figure out how to trap or kill it, Bobby Singer is a good man to ask. He knows urban legends, spells, monsters, and became obsessed with demons after the death of his possessed wife. Because of this, he's now an expert on exorcisms and devil's traps. He once built a demon panic room because he "had a weekend off".

He can also read and speak Japanese, Latin, Gaelic, and who knows what else. He'll be arriving with his favorite blue and white cap and Colt Single Action Army revolver.

Sample Entry:
This ain't one of my phones. And it sure as hell ain’t made in Japan.

[The video flickers on to the worn face of bearded man in a trucker’s cap, beady eyes peering down at the screen.]

Guess it’s mine now. Okay, now that I know this whole thing's not a dream or an unpleasant side effect of too much rotgut, anyone mind telling me where the hell I am? Something a little more specific than Haven. I've been a lot of places and this don't look like a one of them. Not even close.

Sam? Dean? You two idjits wouldn't happen to be listening, would you?

[Because if you are? Bobby's pretty sure you had something to do with this.]

Balls. Can’t a man catch a break long enough for one bite of cobbler?

Additional Samples:
Bobby and the ghost of his father.
Post kumiho invasion.

Sample Entry Two:
Bobby Singer has seen a lot crazy things in his life, more than he cares to think about. If he talked about a fraction of it, it would be more than enough to earn him a nice long stay in a padded room. Truth be told, Bobby had considered it from time to time. He could use the vacation. The only problem is that hospitals - mental or otherwise - aren't monster free themselves. If anything the bastards seemed to congregate there, feeding on the pain and suffering.

But he knew that things could exist without folks actually believing in them. Like the billboard and the crumbling city outside the window of the little room he woke up in. Bobby could see it, but he was still having a little trouble believing it. A trick of the whiskey. That's what Bobby told himself first. He really needed to stop drinking before bed. But an hour or so has passed by now, and still didn't look a damn thing like Sioux Falls.

Maybe another little slip of African Dream Root? Nah. It was as creepy as hell, but this lacked the more nightmarish qualities of that experience. He doesn't want to see Karen as part of some bad dream or, god forbid, as a zombie again. The next time, he wants it to be when he joins her once and for all - provided he doesn't end up in the other place.

Could a djinn be sucking the life out of him right about now? Bobby doubts that too. Their hallucinations would be taking him in the other direction, a sweeter dream that also involved his wife and a table full of freshly baked pies. And he wouldn't have to kill her this time.

So it was time to face facts. This is real. Maybe not the strangest thing, but the scariest in its own way. Because of all the books Bobby Singer has read, not a one mentioned anything like this.

"Looks like an old dog might have to learn some new tricks."

He picks up his gun, his hat, and his phone, old life and new one combined, and heads for the door.

[personal profile] moralizes 2012-11-26 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Izuru is generally pretty miserable. It’s definitely his most obvious trait. He doesn’t believe in fighting, but he knows he must, and knows he must kill his opponents – and he is prepared to be the one killed should he lose. He hadn’t yet realized what it was all about when he decided to become a shinigami, but starting from the time when his class was attacked and he saw several students killed, his attitude and view changed. While he used to be confident and self-important, though still somewhat introverted, he became very withdrawn, negative, depressive and in his own mind, worthless. It’s really very similar to someone thinking it would be exciting to be in the army, then realizing ‘the horrors of war’ once they’re sent out. Or, rather, it’s exactly the same. He thought it would be fun and exciting, and a noble cause, until he witnessed others dying and was put in real danger himself. After Ichimaru turned traitor he realized he didn’t even know what he was fighting for, what side he was on, or which one was right. He did always fight to save others, but he doesn’t even know if he’s doing that much of the time, and so quite a bit of it is duty. For a long time he believed his only talents were following orders and being completely loyal to his captain, Ichimaru was what he believed in. He later comes to a more solid conclusion and view that works for him and is even a little more confident and has more self-worth.

Wabisuke, his sword, is often translated as ‘the penitent one’, though 侘 means ‘the beauty to be found in poverty and simplicity’ when in noun form (wabi), or ‘miserable, wretched, lonely, dreary, comfortless’ when in adjective form (wabishii) and 助 (suke) means assistance. You can take this to mean saving someone from being miserable, or assisting them in furthering it. Though, there is a knifegame that uses this, along the lines of Russian Roulette as it was said to be played by soldiers who lost the will to live. The player says ‘wabisuke’ as he uses his sword in a slicing motion across his wrist (or another possibly fatal body part?), in this context meaning ‘save me from my wretchedness’. Kira beheads his opponents after they fall from their weapon’s or their own weight, which he describes as resembling someone praying or begging forgiveness (for their sins (wretchedness)). So, even the optimistic possibility of salvation would seem to imply being freed through death. This is something that has a great effect on him, he doesn’t want to die or he would have let himself be killed, but the thought behind it, being the executioner or the one to pass judgement on someone who is on their knees, praying and awaiting death. Had his sword served any other purpose or held any other meaning, he may have gotten over his worries and fears, or at least had a healthy amount of doubt and guilt, but instead he is completely built up to be miserable and ‘wretched’. Each shinigami’s sword has a soul, and they are quite often shown speaking to their masters, Kira wouldn’t be an exception to this. His is never seen in the manga as of yet, but in the anime it spoke of wanting to kill him. Which isn’t surprising in the least. Because of this, and the meaning and origin of the name along with Kira’s mental and emotional state, I believe when Wabisuke speaks to him, it tells him how terrible he is, that he really should feel guilty, it perpetuates his self-loathing and his anxiety.

Kira has a tendency to question others’ motivations, whether they are doing what is right, if they truly understand what is happening. This is usually shown in battle, as he grows quite grim and turns the conversation to something dark. Even in a fight against a friend - he tells Matsumoto he doesn’t have to answer someone who is about to die. He looks down his nose at opponents, whether it’s a physical or conversational fight. During these times, Kira becomes assertive, intense and even ‘creepy’ in the way he speaks and carries himself. Though it seems he is questioning and mocking his opponent, it’s truly directed at himself. He wants an answer to his own motivations, he looks down on himself, and he wants someone to give him an explanation he can adopt for himself. Though he is addressing someone else, he asks the questions he himself is unsure of the correct answer to.

He has quite a few friends, mostly other vice-captains, but he would much rather sit at home alone than go out with them or even visit with just one. Though he fears his own thoughts, he doesn’t feel as close to them as he should. He shows many signs of depression and/or anxiety, and it’s difficult to properly describe how he arrives at certain conclusions or a line of thought because of it, but taking disinterest in being with friends as an example, for many people with depression/anxiety, it takes too much energy, it’s just a bit outside their comfort level, or they just don’t want to even though they may know it could cheer them up to be with friends. Izuru even tries to deny himself things that may be of some comfort at times because he believes he deserves to be miserable. However, when he does go with them, he usually ends up drunk and loudly complains about anyone or anything that has bothered him recently (especially Ichimaru). Because he’s easily annoyed, but is too polite (and self-hating) to say it normally, it all comes out then. It’s a bit of a throwback to before he became a shinigami, when he was cocky and confident. He didn’t have a problem telling people off then, but he can’t do that anymore – unless he’s drinking and his tongue is loose. It even reveals that he sometimes has a superior attitude even now, despite how much he hates himself, there’s still a part of him that’s cocky, even if it’s dying and rarely seen.

Because Kira is very polite and reserved, he calls people by their last names, or by a title, always. Even those who are closest to him are on a family name basis, and he doesn’t like being called by his given name either. Ichimaru is the only one who can get away with that. This is because he doesn’t feel he can be entirely open with anyone and so he doesn’t think anyone could feel close enough to him to use his given name or for him to use theirs. That is partially a symptom of anxiety/depression and partially his reserved nature. The honourific he uses can also be a great indication of how close he feels to someone, far past the usual usage. For example, before he attempts to kill her, he calls Momo ‘Hinamori-kun’, because they were classmates and he has had quite the crush on her since. However, immediately after the incident, he begins to call her ‘Hinamori-fukutaichou’, (‘fukutaichou’ meaning ‘vice-captain’. He calls himself ‘the worst’ for fighting her and carries the guilt with him forever after. She easily forgives him, but he believes she should hate him and so attempts to distance himself through formality.

Though he sees fighting so negatively and it brings him so much grief, he is still determined and won’t back down from his duty (even if he had that option). He is polite and friendly and generally genuinely concerned for others, so he can’t abandon his squad (going so far as to attempt to take charge and act as captain despite it being far outside his comfort zone and perceived ability), friends, humans or departed souls who may need his help. He wants to be reliable, courageous, someone others can look up to or call on for help, and to do the right thing, he just doesn’t believe he is good enough to be or do any of those things, but if he would take a step back and ignore his own worries, he would see that he really is; simply because he wants and tries to be.
moralizes: (I try to reason things out)

3/3

[personal profile] moralizes 2012-11-26 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Abilities/Powers:
Kira is skilled both with his sword and with spell-type attacks – he was shown to be the only one who could use those properly for quite a while in the academy, getting it spot-on in the first try (something he was very proud of). These are generally something like an RPG magic attack and performed in much the same way, usually reciting a few lines which sound like a poem. They're things like a whirlwind, or fire ball, quite often, as well as defensive or supportive tools such as a barrier. One of his more notable, specific battle-related talents is speed, not just on foot but in moving his sword. He's quite good with flashstep, which would appear to be teleporting to most, but isn't really, just incredibly highspeed movements. Normally his sword is nothing but a regular katana, but when 'released', it forms a hook shape and gains a property which causes anything it hits to double in weight - as many times as it hits. His squad seems to specialize in something along the lines of ‘quick kill’, but he did have a short time in the medical squad and so is familiar with (and actually still very talented in, despite his modesty) healing skills and items.

Sample Entry: Old thread

Sample Entry Two: Reusing a thirdperson sample from a SC app, if that's okay? I saw some apps had Luceti samples, so I hope this is okay...!

Izuru had been running around in an attempt to keep the squad in order all day, which was tiring in and of itself, some members were taxing on his nerves, but after being forced out of his rooms to drink with Hiisagi and Matsumoto the night before, it had been nearly impossible to keep up. So, it was no surprise when he fell asleep at his desk after finally sitting down to paperwork (though he certainly didn’t intend or want to, there was work to be done).

However, when he woke, the last thing he expected was to be standing in such a dark room, which seemed to have been nearly destroyed. But on second thought, it was awfully familiar, wasn’t it? He hadn’t been thinking about it, he seemed to have entirely forgotten, really, but he had definitely been there before. That’s right, it had to be Death City, and the familiar video confirmed that, but why would he be brought back? He didn’t think he was any use even in Soul Society, what good could he do in another world entirely?

Of course, once he began to remember his previous time in Death City, he was reminded of the other shinigami who had been there with him. Was there any possibility they could still be in the city? To him it had been over a year, if not longer, but any amount of time could have passed within the other world. But he knew it wouldn’t do any good to stand around wondering what to expect, it was time to go through the welcoming procedure.

Sif | Marvel Cinematic Universe

[personal profile] actlikealady 2012-11-26 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Sif; aka the Lady Sif, aka SIF THE UNSTOPPABLE
Canon: Thor canon; Marvel Cinematic Universe; Earth-199999
Canon Point: post-Thor, pre-Avengers
Background/History: Movieverse Sif, and Thor movie

Personality: Sif grew up in a society that told her that, as a woman, she had to behave a certain way. And then Sif kicked the patriarchy in the nads and became a proud warrior against all the odds. She's fiercely proud of her accomplishments and being able to play with the big boys; she has utter confidence in her abilities and will take on any foe without flinching, and while she respects authority, she is never afraid to voice her opinion, or act independently if she feels her way is right -- when Loki became king, and her instincts told her "this is wrong, and this hurts my friend Thor," she was willing to commit treason to fix the situation. She has struggled for all her life to be seen and heard, and having finally earned recognition for her skill, she is not about to let worry about other people's opinions hold her back. She knows that to get where she wants to be, sometimes people are going to end up talking behind her back and saying things she might have to punch them for if they said it to her face.

She is reasonably intuitive and fairly open about what she thinks of people: if Sif suspects you, she will give you dirty looks; if Sif likes you, she will give you extra big smiles. She is a faithful friend, and thinks a lot about those she cares for. She is shown worrying about Thor even in the midst of a bustling feast where she is laughing and eating, and even in her worry over Thor, pauses to express her condolences to his mother for what she has been through. But she is not very good at dealing with emotions or complexities -- she's straightforward, and to a certain extent (as with many Asgardians) she likes to be able to solve problems with violence rather than tact or thought or feelings. When confronted with Thor's emotional turmoil, rather than act to help him, she worries silently from a distance, unable to think of how to approach problems that she doesn't even really want to think about, in stark contrast to her usual direct and to-the-point nature.

Although she laughs and drinks and has a good time, relationships have always taken a backseat to her ambition... perhaps something she regrets. She's a nurturer, and she cares deeply, but those impulses have been thwarted by a millennium-long struggle to be taken seriously as a warrior. She would like to think she's above all of that, that she isn't interested in being beautiful or being loved because she has more important things on her mind, but the truth is that she would be just as offended if you insinuated she wasn't womanly as she would if you suggested that being a woman means she learn to sing and dance instead of fight on the front lines. tldr define her femininity for her and you will regret it.

Sif can have a bit of a sharp tongue, but her group of friends are shown to be sarcastic, people who frequently poke fun at each other, such as Fandral prodding Hogun for reactions, everyone teasing Volstagg for his appetite, Volstagg taunting Loki when he was at a loss for words. As a result, she has a sense of humor about herself as well, but she also will not hesitate to brag or smilingly threaten. Her friends are incredibly important to her and she relaxes around them. She would do anything in her power to help them, but that is not to say she won't hold grudges, even against them.

Overall Sif is a good-natured person, loyal and honest and tough and quick to laugh and good to have at your back in a fight, but get on her bad side and expect to stay there for a while... maybe nursing a few bruises.

Abilities/Powers: As an Asgardian, Sif possesses incredible strength, durability, and long life. She is can lift literally tons of weight without much effort, and weapons wielded with ordinary human strength probably can't even pierce her skin -- bullets, for instance, are just mild annoyances. Her metabolism allows her to heal very quickly from what few things can damage her. Although strong, fast, and skilled in battle by the standards of her people, capable of placing most Asgardian men in their place, thank you, Sif has no known magical ability beyond what the average Asgardian might be able to do. Sif is seen in the movie mostly using a spear, but she also wields daggers and swords, and is practiced fighting with a shield.

((Both samples borrowed from another game's app, don't mind me.))

Sample Entry: [Sif is visibly surprised when the video turns on, but she quickly steels herself. After a rather rude awakening and some fumbling with the device she found on her person, she's feeling direct and to the point]

If whoever brought me here can hear my voice, allow me to assure you that you will regret it. I have already dispatched the first beast you sent after me. [scoffing] And if that is the best you can manage to attempt to subdue one of Asgard's finest warriors, the more fool you.

[She turns to look back at her kill -- she's been lucky enough to wake near the edge of the city, and stumbled onto one of the stray monsters.]

So you might as well face me now. Kidnapping a warrior in their sleep is an act of pitiful cowardice, nothing less.

[...She was kidnapped, right? She has to have been. It's too real to still be a dream.]

[Well, whatever. Now she waits for a response!]

Sample Entry Two: Sif realized grimly that there was a certain amount of truth to the saying, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. She knew enough that she could not think of more to ask just yet, and felt that she was capable of getting by on her own, but still she felt considerably out of her depth. There were many strangers here who knew her, and all of them remembered things from her future; Loki was here, Loki who had been so tragic when dead and so... Loki when alive; and a second Loki (naturally, because two of, say, Fandral would not have been trial enough) who was young and as innocent as he had ever been.

So in short: she knew the basics of her surroundings, and she knew the basics of what she was missing. She knew just enough that she felt confident going out exploring and learning more, and just enough that she was terribly paranoid about every sound, every sudden movement.

The sounds of the scuffle reached her ears as she slipped down a back-street, hand on the hilt of her sword; she froze and listened. The tremulous voice of a woman, the rough whisper of an angry man.

Some things were the same everywhere.

She was on them like a flash, grabbing the man's weapon and crushing it casually in her fist, and then punching him in the jaw hard enough to send him flying back. He slammed into a brick wall and didn't move, dazed and in pain.

"Go, and perhaps rethink the choices that brought you here," she told him grimly, and he took off. Then she turned to the woman, offering her the bag that had been dropped to the ground when she struck her attacker, and said in a more gentle voice, "And you should consider learning to defend yourself. Even in a world of dreams, there is danger to be found wandering without the means to protect yourself. Are you well enough to travel? I can help you get to where you were going."

When she struck off walking again, she felt as if she had found her footing.

Query: Sif wields a spear throughout the movie that is actually a sword and a smaller blade that she can combine to make a double-headed spear. Blame Kenneth Branagh. One item, or two?

If one, Items: Her spear, her shield, and a dagger.
If two, Items: Her two blades, and her shield.

Personality: There's a lot of ways one can describe Dirk Strider. He himself likes to make it colorful: a "master of mythologue", "renaissance ninja", "pantheonic ironicist", "gangsta logician" - just to name a few. Meanwhile, most other people would probably sum him up with "kind of weird". Not like Dirk particularly cares about labels, though. Who wants to box themselves in with a few descriptors? Definitely not this guy. Be it his interests, his sexuality, or even where he is at whatever point in time, Dirk's not one to limit himself to one definition in any way. He'd rather do what he does and enjoy it, because as he puts it himself, everything he does is dope.

Which is a good indication of his ego. Dirk's not someone to go around bragging, but when asked, he will assert that his interests and the things he creates are awesome. For sure. That same self-assurance is exercised in the way he speaks to his friends - as if he knows ultimately what's best for them. How accurate that actually is is debatable, but Dirk himself thinks he can act as a guide, a leader behind the scenes. He sends sparring robots to have matches with Jake, insists Jake go out into the danger of his own island in order to toughen him up, watches after Roxy and makes it his job to keep her safe on their dream planets, and later assists Jane in launching her game session (while arguing with his own auto-responder, which is, in short, a digital version of himself, on how to handle the situation properly).

Dirk is someone on the intellectual side, showcasing his extensive vocabulary in every-day conversations with his homies. He's into a lot of pursuits: studies history for fun, builds robots from scratch, makes up rap lyrics in his spare time. And there is a hell of a lot of spare time when your planet's ruled by an evil overlordess, a fact that Dirk doesn't seem terribly daunted by, considering he's not made one mention of their fucked-up living situation so far.

In that vein - Dirk appears to be a pretty hard person to scare. Literally every curveball he's been thrown so far has been handled smoothly and calmly. When he's talking about something dire he presents it more factually than anything else. And it's not just talk - when confronted with a sudden, unexpected enemy out of nowhere, he simply reacts quickly and doesn't appear surprised in the slightest. When his friends unexpectedly appear in the midst of a clusterfuck, Dirk is very quick to put a plan in motion and rescue all of them in one fluid set of actions. This plan also involves him decapitating himself. Which he does. Without any hesitation whatsoever.

Emotions are a thing Striders are notorious for hiding, speaking of. There's little indication of Dirk feeling much of anything thusfar aside from vague annoyance or amusement. He's reactive, mainly, solving problems as they come along and just sort of doing his own thing until someone or something bothers him. This isn't to say he's actually emotionless and that he doesn't feel things. He certainly does, he's just trained himself not to show them for the most part. An interesting note is that he and Roxy's living conditions are hundreds of years in the future compared to Jane and Jake, and yet those two had no idea of their friends' statuses until they were told. Dirk just isn't a guy who reveals these sorts of things, despite his planet being a terrifying place.

Dirk seems to be pretty practical. In [S] ACT 6 ACT 4, while his friends have made a bunch of new clothes, weapons and accessories, Dirk has apparently only made essentials for himself - new shoes, a gas mask for breathing on planets filled with krypton and xenon, and a utility belt. He seems a bit strict with himself in this sense, trying not to go overboard with anything and lose his chilled-out demeanor. But often, this comes off as him being stick in the mud when he's focused on something he considers serious. He wants nothing to do with Roxy's flippant behavior regarding the game, and he doesn't like Calliope's cagey way of telling him info. At the same time, he seems to think he's someone who can figure everything out and will get things done even if none of his teammates care "as much". Again, this relates to his thinking that he knows what's best for everyone, and again, the reality of that is dubious. But even with how tight his ass might get in certain situations, Dirk, overall, has an pretty laid-back sort of stature. He'll slip in wordplay and sarcasm and poke fun at his friends, he entertains Caliborn by scribbling ridiculous porn for him. Dirk isn't a complete stiff buzzkill, despite sometimes coming off as one.

At heart, he's a good person. He cares deeply about the few friends he has - by "looking after" or "training" them or whatnot - and seems to react to others in an honest, direct manner, though rarely too dismissively. Dirk appears to have an empathetic side, owning a tiny pet horse and allowing seagulls to walk all over the prized turntables in his room, and while the machines he makes end up in death matches with him more often than not, at the same time, he seems to hold a degree of respect for artificial intelligence. There's also evidence he might be a little lonely, which is something he'll never drop hints at, but it's made obvious in his introduction. He builds robots, creates a virtual clone of himself to converse with and develop, and cuddles with a puppet he's come to view as a guardian. The kid has some issues.

On the point of flaws, Dirk is not perfect. He has a strong desire to control what his buddies do and the situations around both himself and them, even going so far as to assure Jane that while she's the session's leader, he'll be pulling the strings. And while all of Dirk's schemes may have come into fruition in canon, but he does seem to bite off more than he can chew and is very overconfident in his abilities. This pretty much guarantees a fuck-up at some point, given that he's just a teenager. He's been called out on his constant multitasking as it distracting him (Dirk denies this), which manifests as part of one of his plans being almost ruined by an enemy sneaking up on him. Socially, Dirk is quite inexperienced, for all of his lack of insecurities. He's only interacted with four human beings in his life, barring even real-life interaction until very recent events.

Overall, Dirk is a lot of contradictions, yet somehow manages to keep a certain air about himself. Which is contradicting in itself. It's sort of hard to pin him down with just a few facets of personality, and that's just how he likes it - avoiding labels 'til the end of days.

Abilities/Powers: Dirk isn't super-human, but he is possible of ridiculous speed to the point of nearly becoming invisible, and he's highly adept with bladed weapons as well. Even without his speed, Dirk's trained himself to be kind of a ninja, and thus has reflexes unlike a typical human.

Within the game of Sburb, Dirk is also given the mythological title of "Prince of Heart," which essentially means he destroys souls - but given that this ability hasn't been shown in canon, it's mostly irrelevant for right now.

Sample Entry: Previous game post.

Sample Entry Two: Rescuing all three of your closest - and really, only - friends at once was something he could handle. Making certain even the tiniest step fell into place at the exact-planned time was easy. Hell, even a snag in the scheme could probably be untangled with ease.

But not this one.

Dirk's coming to and realizing quite quickly that somewhere, he fucked up. At no point in his plan did he intend to wake up bleary in an unfamiliar room, blinking, squinting even behind the sharp darkness of his shades.

It's bright.

He sits up, eyes falling on the room itself. Extraneous beds suggest more occupants, but Dirk is aware that he is alone right now. sitting up, he shifts his body to the window, peering out into cloudy sunlight. There's some kind of sign - contrasting colors, huge and falling apart, unlike anything he's seen out of his dreams.

Welcome to Haven?

There's a sort of unfamiliar twisting in his gut. It's uncertainty - and Dirk isn't the kind of guy who likes being uncertain.

Plans hinge on the certitude of the outcome of a situation. Right now, he doesn't know where his rescuees are. He doesn't know where he himself is.

With an inhale, Dirk stands up. He'll figure this out. He won't let it get to him.

All it'll take is some caution. He knows his strategies always work out.
