Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:
Canon Characters:
Sample Application (Faith Lehane)
Sample Application (Iroh)

Original Characters:
Sample Application (Mors)
Sample Application (Vera de Barr)
Sample Application (Malkus Iverwelling)

Previous Game History:

Not much is known about Clementine's behavior before the outbreak, but it can easily be assumed that her personality didn't change too much. She'd gotten quieter, maybe, but she was still a smart young girl, who was able to notice more than one might initially expect from a kid.
First impressions reveal that Clementine is pretty quiet, content to draw pictures of happier times when left to her own devices. She may not be able to completely understand certain situations, but she does like to be included in decision making if she's part of the group. Despite being a child, she has a surprisingly mature ability to adapt and learn; she's also been able to keep her innocent outlook and hope that things will get better despite seeing many of her friends leave or die. . .and despite having had to shoot her own best friend/father figure to prevent him from turning.

Any one, especially a child, could have fallen to the despair and distrust in their world, but Clementine was always quick to try to befriend the strangers that they would come across. Being wary of everyone wouldn't get her very far when it came to getting help from strangers, even if it meant that it would put her in a dangerous situation. She's learned that she shouldn't be so quick to trust, but being so trusting is part of her nature and hard to dismiss. After all, when Lee, a total stranger, came to her house she didn't seem afraid of him and trusted him enough to want to stay near him. Of course the alternative was to stay hiding in her tree house with walkers all over the place. Better to be with another living human being than be by herself.

At the core, Clementine is a good, sweet girl who wants to do good and help those she meets. Some children seem to be oblivious to the situation they're in, but Clementine is of the sort to want to get right in there and help out where she can, with this usually ending up bein by crawling through ducts or going through doggie doors. Oftentimes she'll take the initiative to do so herself if she gets the opportunity, whether or not she's told to - as long as it's something she can do to help out. She actually doesn't like it when she's told to stay behind where it's safe, for two reasons; one, because she likes being treated as an equal who can help out, and two - and this is the biggie - because she's afraid the people she cares about will leave her for good, by getting killed. Even if there isn't anything she can do, she would rather be with them - she hates to be alone, because it's more frightening alone than in the thick of things. To better be able to defend herself, she was taught by Lee how to shoot a gun. She's no sniper, but she isn't afraid of shooting walkers if she needs to. Well she is a LITTLE afraid. Although she really prefers not to use the weapon; she'd much rather sneak about and run away.

Post Timeskip:
One notable change to Clementine's personality in the almost two years she's been surviving during the zombie apocalypse, is that much of her naivete and trust was gone. She still holds the hope that people would help each other out in those dark times, but at the same time, she is even more wary of strangers, given the cutthroat manner of those she's met. Many people are unwilling to accept new strangers into their group, thinking of them as just 'another mouth to feed', and are suspicious of new faces. If there was even the slightest chance someone was bitten by a zombie, they are more likely to turn them out - whereas Clementine is still more willing to cooperate and help people. She's not quite jaded yet, but she does get frustrated when she can't find supplies during scavenging, and tends to keep her thoughts to herself when she comes across dead bodies. She's used to seeing them, and feels sorry for them, showing she still has the kind and compassionate heart in spite of the hard times she's been through.

In addition to the tougher exterior from Clem, she's more resourceful, taking the lead when she needs help - for example, when she was bitten by a dog and needed help, she took the initiative to find it herself - even if it meant stealing - when the people she encountered refused to help her. This includes taking the supplies she needed (though she still felt guilty about it) to stitch her own wounds (which hurt like a biiiiiiitch) and saying what she needed to say to convince someone to help her (Even though she kinda meant it, though she was reluctant).

She still isn't much of a fighter, but she can be plenty scrappy, able to hold her own - if briefly - against a adult male, and she's learned to use her environment to help her, whether it's from fighting or primarily, running and hiding, as she thinks quickly and she's spry on her feet.

Lastly, she's given to smiling less, and the primary reason for this is to the heaping pile of survivor guilt she's suffering through. She blames herself for Lee's death, she blames herself for Omid's death, and she blames herself for Sam the Dog's death. As she tells Luke, people die because of her. As a result, she's a little more reluctant to form friendships when she fears most of all, the people she cares about will die because of her for some reason. Yet she misses having friends at the same time, and so that distance is tempered by the need to socialize and be helpful to people. No matter, she soldiers on, because giving up is not an option nor a way to honor the memory of her fallen friends. This is her motivation behind her survival - survive and live, so as not to disgrace the memory or sacrifices of those who passed before her. She may not like it, she may hate living when everyone she loves dies, but she continues to hope that things will get better in the future, and that she wants to continue living to see that day come about.

For Alice, nothing was worse than this severe lack of food. She had been reassured again and again that she could just find food in the run-down stores, but none of it really pinged her interest. Most of the food she had found was in cans and was "mushy and gross". Alice had standards, or at least that was what she told herself.

Haven North apparently met those standards. Alice had heard that the Northern part of Haven had real food. And other things. But mostly real food. She had also heard some little things about monsters in the subway, but pish-posh, no problem. Such a "no problem" that the great Alice-sama wasn't even thinking to prepare herself for such a thing. A bit of yelling would do the trick. She swung her arms confidently by her sides and took giant steps filled with pride, marching to the subway without a second thought.

None of this could end well.

"Clear outta the way!" Alice stopped at the top of the stairs, hands now confidently on her hips and posture speaking of undeserved confidence, "You hear me, you monsters? The Great Alice-sama is coming to get your meat!"

Her voice echoed around the otherwise empty subway. She had no reason to believe anyone was listening to her, but assumed that everyone who needed to hear her would. Why would they not be paying attention to her? She was the most important person for miles, probably.

"I didn't hear any leaving!" She called, stomping her feet as she began descending the stairs, "Who do you think you are, huh? Not leaving when I definitely said something that was meant to make your go!"
It was a nonsensical argument, as arguments with Alice often ended up being. She waited now, eyes narrowed and judging monsters she did not see. Alice had been about to open her mouth to yell something else, but stopped. She was seeing made-up things, but she could swear that she had just seen something slithering along the edge of the subway's inner shadow.

Alice pressed her lips together. She had really expected for the monsters to leave when she yelled at them too. Maybe another a girl would think that was too easy, but not Alice. Another girl may also have realized that her eyes were probably playing tricks on her, but not Alice. No one played tricks on Alice, not even her own eyes!
So her logical conclusion was that there was a rebellious monster.

"Didn't I say to scram, you insolent beast!" She yelled, picking a nice fancy-sounding word that she really didn't understand. Now that monster was probably scared. Faced with both a strong and smart girl like Alice, who wouldn't be? She sneered and continued, "This is your last chance to GET!"

Alice waited a few seconds longer. She strained her eyes to see if her scare tactics had worked. Her bangs shifted and blocked her eyes for just a moment, but Alice managed to mistake the sudden movement for a monster stepping out of and back into the subway tunnel. It made her jump, though she would not easily admit to having felt a moment's worth of fright. She didn't really have access to any of her-- Oz'd-- powers at the moment. In all honesty, she did not have any plan for how to get through the tunnels if yelling didn't work. She was also stubborn, and wasn't about to give up on her mission unless she had a really good and legitimate excuse...

"Why I oughta..." Her stomach growled. Hunger was the most legitimate excuse she could have. Alice hissed and screamed at no one in particular, then turned on her heel and marched back up the stairs, "You got lucky, alright? I'm coming back after I get a snack! Then you'll be sorry!"

Name: Auria
Contact Info: [plurk.com profile] AuriaTetsukai // AuriaTetsukai (AIM)
Other Characters Played: Terra // [personal profile] ihaveaflashlight
Preferred Apartment: None

Character Name: Ib
Canon: Ib
Canon Point: End of game, "Promise of Reunion" ending
Background/History: Here and Here.
Personality: Ib is nine years old, but already very independent for her age. At the very beginning of the game, she strikes off on her own to explore the art gallery, and spends the first part in the dark gallery alone until she meets Garry. Even when they begin travelling together, Ib doesn't abandon her self-sufficient nature to lean on him; instead, she and Garry become a team who support each other.

There is a degree of stoicism to Ib in that she deals with the horrors of the art gallery unflinchingly. There's no in-game reaction. Where Garry lashes out at the world that's trying to kill him (like kicking the mannequin head or the doll), Ib deals with everything calmly. It's only after Ib begins travelling with Garry -- after she has found someone to help her -- that we see her succumbing to everything that's going on around her, culminating in her fainting.

Ib is, in general, a rather quiet and well-behaved child. Being a more traditional RPG protagonist, she has no dialogue except for the choices when talking to other characters, and the inferred dialogue from various parts of the game (such as when she asks her mom to let her roam the gallery alone). The "Promise of Reunion" ending does require extensive conversing with Garry, but most of this is one-sided, with Ib offering two- or three-word phrases in response.

Though there isn't much given in regards to Ib's home life or family, much can be inferred about her personal life. Her family appears to be high-class and cultured, being able to afford tickets to a large-scale art exhibition. Garry also comments on the quality of Ib's clothes and her lace handkerchief, both likely expensive items. Ib is unable to read many negative words or words associated with death ("Hell", "isolation", and "wariness" are among the many words she doesn't know). She also assumes that Garry is "sleeping" if she finds herself in an ending where he dies. Though nine is an age where one might already have been acquainted with death or other hardships, Ib appears to still be unaware of these.

Of course, this has all been thrown out the window in Haven, where Ib is now quite experienced with death. She also has frequent nightmares and is far less self-sufficient than she was in the gallery. Haven is much more unforgiving, so she has become cautious and rarely ventures outside the apartments without someone accompanying her. She's also become aware of how untrustworthy other people are -- prior to arriving in Haven, the most dangerous person she'd met was Mary, and a little girl with a palette knife is far less lethal than a murderous vampire or a crazy French scientist. Thus, she is more wary of approaching people who don't already have the Garry Seal of Approval (and even then, she's still afraid of Diva).

Abilities/Powers: Ib has no special abilities or powers; she is a normal human.
Items/Weapons: Only a piece of lemon-flavored candy.

Cool beans! I have a question, though. Ada is listed as living in 2.005 on the apartments page and not 2.004 - which one is correct?
