Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:

Abilities/Powers: OH boy.

First off, Gavrill is what's known to be a Transformer. Fran describes them as follows: "The Pprofessor experimented on a certain technique at one point in time, and she must've been the test subject of that technique. The skeletal, muscular, organ, and nervous systems of her body have been partitioned into many smaller divisions. She can consciously control those parts with her will. With such a structure and the ability to control it, one could change their body to suit their needs at the drop of a hat.

For example, a transformer could concentrate all the muscle parts of their body to their arms to become 10 times strong, or modify their jaw and mouth to swallow a human whole, or modify their legs to run a 100m dash in three seconds. But to be a transformer, one needs incredible willpower. Without it, they wouldn't be able to maintain their forms and their bodies will eventually fall apart."

TL;DR Gavrill can change her body to suit any of her needs, from transofmring her appearance entirely, like becoming someone else and slipping away into a crowd, or turning into giant wolf (which is where Gavrill's nickname of "Gavrill the Wolf" comes from). However, Gavrill doesn't utilize many of these techniques very often as they're fairly draining. The only one she uses with abandon is turning into the wolf, which is the most effective forms she can take during combat. She can also modify individual spots in her body-- for example when Vernica tries to stab her, Gavrill transforms the area into a fanged mouth to grip the sword and stop the attack. Poisioning or "injecting foreign substances" don't work either, as the body of a transformer will automatically reject and spit out whatever it is.

This also makes Gavrill almost impossible to kill-- at one point she's bombed with a low-grade nuke and survives it, complaining only that it's "annoying" as she start swimming away from the area that used to be a small island before the nuke destroyed all of it. This makes her regeneration powers extremely powerful, and while not 100% impossible, it makes it very difficult to kill her. (As a note these powers will be decreased for events to give her a fair playing field with everyone else as needed).

Her sense of smell is also incredibly powerful: "Let me start by telling you that my sense of smell is a million times more sensitive than yours. Ordinary humans may not pay any attention to most smells, but I can sense even minute particles with my nose to finds things about people around me. Their health, blood relations, sicknesses, and even their potential. Like an open book their secrets are bared to me. Using this info, I can easily find out where they were and what they did." This isn't a power she can turn on or off and is frequently more annoying than it is useful (for example going into the school she complained because she could smell every time a girl was on her menstrual cycle and every time a boy had masturbated), but wen used correctly there's very little that can be hidden from her.

While not an ability, exactly, it should be noted again that she is a cannibal and while perfectly capable of eat normal foods, has no qualms about
Items/Weapons: - 3 spare sets of clothes + boots.
Sample Entry: You guys fucking stink, what the fuck have you been doing? [Gavrill wrinkles her nose, leaning back against the pile of rubble she's comfortably seated herself on. Her jacket looks rather...precariously situated over her chest, making it painfully obvious she's not wearing anything underneath it. How is that jacket staying in place?? Mysteries.

She waves one hand under her nose and gags
] I'm going to bite that fucker's head off if I ever see him for sticking me in this kind of place. ['He' being Kite; it doesn't matter that Gavrill hasn't seen him before, she's rather confident that she'll recognize him if only by smell alone. Surely he might be cleaner smelling than everyone else at least. Gavrill scowls, bareing sharp teeth and angrily crushes one of the larger rocks under her hand.]

Sample Entry Two: It was like an itching over her skin. She'd spent the first day stomping around, throwing her weight around and trying to pick up the familiar scent of... Well, anything, really. It had gotten her no where and by the fourth day her mood was even worse. Going on a rampage and killing everyone would've been far more satisfying than sitting around brooding, but Gavrill had found some interesting people that would've proven a challenge even for her to kill.

The thought made her grin and she lounged back, studying the night sky with a low hum. If what was said was true, the bodies would come back anyhow. ANd that? That was far more interesting to her. At first she had suspected that maybe Fran was behind it (that bitch had her fingers everywhere it seemed), but it would've been impossible for even her to drug Gavrill and drop her in this hell hole. Besides that, the newly risen were missing the usual eldritch horror that usually came from Fran's 'help.'

Which led her to only one conclusion. Surely that bastard had managed to sink his dirty little fingers into this operation; he was the only one who could potentially know the way to get her unconscious and move her. Some weird-ass experiment? Gavrill thought on it for a few seconds before deciding it didn't matter what the reasoning was: She was going to slaughter him and the entire Yao Corporation with him. Feeling smug and more cheerful than she had in days, Gavrill began to whistle a cheery tune, setting out to find someone guliable enough to spar against her-- or more accurately, be her next meal. You couldn't go slaughtering pain-in-the-ass corporations on an empty stomach, after all.

[personal profile] eyedeal 2014-01-31 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Background/History:

Born with an terminal illness, the otherwise ordinary Haruka Kokonose’s constitution had been weak since he was a young child. Due his frail body and constantly unstable condition, he wasn’t able to get out much as a child, and was repeatedly hospitalized throughout his childhood with only his sketchbook to keep him company. His illness progressively got worse over the years, as attacks and seizures became more and more frequent with time, and as he grew older, he eventually reached the stage that a sudden attack could be lethal.

Although Haruka was extremely intelligent and could have easily been at the top of his class in academics, in order for his health to be monitored, he was placed in a special class for handicapped students upon entering high school. The only other student in his class was Takane Enomoto, and after spending their peaceful, uneventful first year of high school together, they soon became close friends. Together with their teacher, Kenjirou Tateyama, they created and hosted a shooting game during the school cultural festival, through which Haruka discovered Takane’s skill and passion for video games in addition to her online fame. She introduced him to an online shooting game called DEAD BULLET 1989, and sparked his newfound interest in video games. He quickly created a player character (avatar) and named him Konoha, after his own name, kokonose haruka.

Because his attendance record in school was quite dismal, he was required to take make-up classes during the summer of his second year of high school. Since his intelligence wasn’t an issue, he often finished his assignments early and played on his laptop to pass the time, but on August 15th, Haruka suffered from an attack while Takane wasn’t paying attention and fell completely unconscious. After being brought to the hospital by Kenjirou, Takane collapsed and also fell unconscious, and woke up to find Kenjirou next to a large vat of liquid, in which the reborn Konoha’s body was suspended.

When two people die together on August 15th, they enter an everlasting world called the Kagerou Daze, or Heat Haze Daze. While the events that happen in the Daze are unknown, one of the two people eventually escapes and reappears unharmed at the place of their death with red eyes and a new power, or “eye ability”. After Haruka died, remaking his body into Konoha (via his eye ability) put a large strain on his mind, and he lost his memory in the process.

Two years later, when a young girl named Hiyori, Kenjirou’s daughter-in-law, and her classmate Hibiya visited the Tateyama’s home over summer vacation, they met Konoha and learned that he had been staying there for (presumably) the past two years. The next day, Hibiya and Hiyori tragically died and entered the Heat Haze Daze, and for an unknown reason, Konoha was brought in with them. However, neither of them were able to see him no matter how hard he tried to reach out and save them from their horrible, repeating fate (explained in the songs Kagerou Days and Konoha’s State of the World), as if he wasn’t completely there to begin with, but after Hibiya was given his eye ability, he and Konoha were finally ejected from the Daze.

Later, at the hospital, the two of them met the Mekakushi Dan: a group of teenagers with the same mysterious eye abilities. They were quick to recognize Hibiya’s red eyes, and Hibiya and Konoha soon followed them back to their base and later became members of the Mekakushi Dan.

Personality:
As an amnesiac with only two years worth of memories, Konoha is much like a child in the body of a teenager. Because he’s essentially like a young kid, there are a lot of things that Konoha doesn’t know, but he’s very curious about the world and how it works. Still, he’s quite naïve, and trusts others and their words too easily, taking everything at face-value. Since he has no memories of his past, he has nothing to hide, and will openly answer everything asked of him in full honesty, even if he isn’t sure of the answer.

In almost every situation, Konoha’s reactions are notably slow, and he moves at a pace of his own. Speaking, walking, and doing tasks in general take him much longer than the average person, partially because he deliberates over every little thing he does. With his perpetually sleepy expression and clumsy, spacey reactions, most people don’t know what to make of him upon meeting him, and mistakenly assume that he’s rather emotionless. In truth, he clearly has a variety of emotions, but they don’t show on his face very well; one would have to look carefully to see the slight differences between his expressions.

In spite of the fact that others initially have a hard time figuring him out, Konoha is an incredibly kind person. Highly empathetic and sensitive to the feelings of those around him, he truly wants to help others from the bottom of his heart, and his intentions are never selfish. Even though he’s polite and friendly to everyone, he’s also easily intimidated and worries quite a bit. He sounds unsure of himself every time he speaks, and even though he’s always honest, polite, and straightforward with his words, he speaks slowly and tends to trip over his words.

Not one to complain, he earnestly and wholeheartedly does everything asked of him. No matter how small or simple it may be, whenever Konoha does something, he puts the utmost amount of effort into it. When Hiyori knocked on the door of the Tateyama household, it took Konoha at least a minute to figure out how to unlock the door, and after he finally did, he was sweating and looked extremely proud of himself. Simple things like searching for a lost book become an intense experience for him, and if he can’t do what’s asked of him, he becomes rather distressed.

However, polite and obedient as he may be, if he’s truly worried about someone or something, he’ll do everything in his power to help them. For example, when Konoha woke up to find that Hibiya and Hiyori were missing, he broke his promise to not leave the house in order to go look for them.

Of course, it’s almost impossible to discuss Konoha without mentioning his love for food and sleeping. He can fall asleep in a matter of seconds and it takes a lot to wake him up, though the mention of food will easily do it, as his stomach and appetite seem to have no end. It really isn’t much of an exaggeration, if one at all, to say that food is his favourite thing in the world, since it very well may be.

Abilities/Powers: When Haruka escaped the Heat Haze Daze, he was chosen by the snake of the "Awakening Eyes" and was given the ability to recreate his body into his "ideal”. Due to the fact that he lost his memory upon using it, it’s unclear whether he knows anything about these powers, though he seems to be oblivious to the fact that he has them.

Though called an “artificial human”, his body is made of flesh and blood, and seems to work just like any other human’s. However, much unlike a normal human, he’s extremely strong, can move at incredibly high speeds, is able to jump tens of meters in the air with no effort, and can land safely after jumping from high places. This seems to be due to the fact that Haruka was always frail and sluggish, so he rebuilt his body to be able to do the things he couldn’t before.

Items/Weapons: His usual clothes and the headphones he always wears.

Sample Entry: Here! Let me know if you’d prefer me to write something out!

Sample Entry Two:
Waking up in a new place is, as anyone would expect, startling. The sun is already high in the sky when Konoha opens his eyes, belatedly realizing that the pile of rubble he’d awoken in is far from a desirable place to rest and doze off again. Thankfully, the desire to sleep doesn’t plague him for long, and he yawns only once more before rising to his feet and scanning the horizon. It really, truly looks like a wasteland as far as the eye can see, but that isn’t what matters right now.

No, what matters the most is that he’d seen Shintaro falling and jumped off of a cliff after him, but he isn’t nearby. Better yet, the dense forest near Mary’s home and the friends he’s so quickly come to care about aren’t anywhere in sight. Yes, there's no mistaking it.... With all of the knowledge he’s gathered, Konoha knows well that something is very wrong, that something like this wasn’t supposed to happen.

Slowly, his eyes widen as he mentally reviews the events that transpired before he’d woken up here. So if Shintaro fell off of the cliff and Konoha fell with him.... Had he not caught Shintaro after all? Had they both died? It looks so, so different, but what if maybe, just maybe, this is another version of the strange world that he had been in with Hibiya? Konoha looks down to his fingers and then back to the horizon again. His body isn’t flickering this time, but he also hasn’t suffered any injuries. What happened to lead to an outcome like this? He simply doesn’t understand.

If it’s really true, the most important thing right now is to find Shintaro, and it doesn’t take him more than a few seconds to dash forward at an incredibly high speed.

Personality: Despite her childish appearance and easygoing manner, Shijima is someone who has been observing the world and the people around her for more than a century. Her verdict? Life is tiresome, humans are idiotic, and the only things she's really concerned about are naps and food. It's living that has made her this cynical and disconnected to her surroundings. After years of wandering and watching others live and die without her, Shijima has only one goal. She wishes to die. Immortality is a burden that has been weighing on her for many years and she hasn't found much in life worth living for. She is primarily motivated by her goal and pretty much ignores anything that can distract her from it. Unlike her companion, Shijima has no interest in blending into society to ingratiate herself with other human beings. Human bonds hold very little interest to her. Instead, she involves herself when she feels that it would be beneficial for her, rather than for anyone else.

While her goal has made her incredibly determined, it has also made her quite cruel. She's willing to kill those that stand in her way with little regret as long as she can achieve her goal. Shijima is a firm believer in means to the end and every sacrifice is worth it if she can take another step to death. Her morally gray beliefs are a natural product of the environment she has been living in. As a direct observer of the ninja way, Shijima has learned that killing, assassinating, stealing, and preying on others is acceptable as long as you're clever enough to come out of it as the winner. On the other hand, being so focused on death doesn't mean that Shijima despises life. She's fond of her luxuries and creature comforts (quite literally in her case) and she's been shown to have been fond of a few individuals in her lifetime. She shows her affection through loyalty and while she may be bitter, moody, and cynical most of the time, she's found that there are some humans who aren't idiots. She's more realistic than pessimistic. She understands human nature and while she's quick to mock and belittle it, she's also seen humans capable of great kindness and respect.

She's not a very cuddly or affectionate individual in general though. Instead, she's prone to making sarcastic remarks and she particularly enjoys mocking as a form of affection. Her one other companion, Kouichi, is the brunt of her many jokes and insults. While Kouichi has become far more human with each life he's lived, Shijima has stubbornly stayed aloof. Her mannerisms are very much like a cat. She's moody and distracted, quick to leave when things are boring and quick to show up if she can make a sarcastic comment or two. She takes advantage of human kindness frequently and usually leaves without saying a word of thanks. As a cat and as a person, Shijima refuses to be tied down to any one place or individual. After all, she knows that attachments can easily lead to despair and she's been hurt too many times in her lifetime to endure that again.

Abilities/Powers: Shijima is immortal. Her body heals itself even after taking fatal wounds. She can also transform into a white cat which is her true form. She has knowledge of the ninja arts, especially the art of transforming (called tenpenka) which she uses to assume her human shape. She prefers fighting hand-to-hand though. Her strength and agility far outstrip an average human's and she's shown to overpower ninjas as well.
Items/Weapons: Claw-shaped brass knuckles, a ball of yarn, an extra set of clothes
Sample Entry: sample

Sample Entry Two: Shijima stared at the sky.

She had been sitting, back arched and haunches ready, for over two hours at least and yet still, not a sign of a single sparrow or robin winging its oblivious way in the sky. She knew that there were cans and vegetables available to sate her hunger, but she disliked vegetables just as much as she disliked opening cans. Can-opening was an activity best left to humans. Still, she was sick of being fed and she felt anxious enough to swipe at something that would crunch and bleed under her grip. If only she could find something.

Her cat-shaped eyes flickered to the left, distracted by a sign of movement. No, it was only another human bumbling about and making a mess of things. She stretched from her position and picked herself up from the floor. If she hadn't been able to find a bird before, then she definitely wouldn't be able to find one now. Not with all the racket the human was making anyway. She had been around humans with soft treads for too long. She was beginning to take silence for granted.

Shijima slipped to the floor quiet as a shadow. She'd teach this clumsy human a thing or two about the dangers of being too loud. Nothing permanent though. Maybe one or two claws sunk into his thighs. That should be for a lesson, even for a idiotic human.
