Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:

Sample Entry: A conversation on dear_mun
Sample Entry Two: This is not the first time Sei has found herself somewhere she didn't recognize. This also is not the first time she has found herself waking up among many other people, though only five other beds is a little strange. Usually there are more.

This is, however, the first time she's woken up on a bed before. The mattress is different from what she usually sleeps on, and it is strange enough that she can't help but frown and examine it before getting to her feet. "Where am I...?" The words come out in a murmur as she presses a hand onto the mattress experimentally, and then furrows her brow when she feels it give way. "It's so... squishy," She observes, and then she feels a little foolish for thinking out loud.

Luckily Okita isn't here to hear that - he would never let her hear the end of it. And then her blood runs cold and she carefully looks around the room as that sinks in.

Okita isn't here.

Neither is Saitou, or any of the members of the first troop.

There is no one she recognizes here.

"This can't be right!"

This time the words are a furious muttering. The others have to be around here somewhere. Just because they aren't in this room doesn't mean they're nowhere to be found, so she grabs for her swords - thankfully they're here - and snags her hachigane, which she only pauses for a moment to secure before running out.

Step one of finding yourself in an unfamiliar place was to make it familiar as soon as possible, after all. Whatever's going on here, Sei won't let herself lose to anyone.

Canon Point: Just before entering the Paths of the Dead

Background/History:

Wikipedia page

Personality:
Aragorn is a man carrying heavy burdens. For his entire adult life, he has been aware of both a legacy and a destiny that reside in him alone in the World of Men. These have both heavily influenced who he has become as a man. Aragorn is the last living heir in a long line of dethroned kings -- tracing back to Elendil and Isildur , the man who both defeated Sauron and then failed to destroy the One Ring, essentially ensuring that the war would not be over. This legacy of greatness and weakness is a large part of Aragorn's struggles. He fears making the same mistakes as his forebears, fears his inherent weakness. This fear has created a wariness in him, a distrust of himself on a very basic level.

However, Aragorn has never let this self doubt hold him back -- mostly. He has avoided any attempts to reclaim the throne of Gondor that is his birthright. Despite this, he never shied away from being a leader among the Rangers of the North, nor from joining in battles in the land of his people (though in the latter, he kept his identity a secret). His identity is one that he has only recently even begun to reveal openly to many people; in the past it was kept mostly to close confidants or those who had known him a long time. His identity had long been kept a secret even from him, after all. After his father was murdered when Aragorn was still a toddler, his mother brought him to Rivendell to live among the elves in hiding. He was renamed Estel and lived his childhood years having no idea of his legacy or birthright. Maybe these unburdened years are the sources of the mirth and happiness that he is capable of expressing still, that peek out in quieter times among those he trusts.

His time in Rivendell is also where he learned of love. When he was a young man he met Arwen and soon fell in love with her. The feeling was mutual, but problematic since Arwen is an elf and Aragorn a (admittedly long-lived) mortal. But she was willing to eschew her immortal life to live as his wife. Her father, on the other hand, withheld his blessing on this union, at least while Aragorn was not sitting upon the throne of his forefathers. It's very clear that Aragorn has given his heart to Arwen, but he is also willing to give up the chance to be with her when Elrond tells him that it is in her best interest, that he needs to let her go so that she can leave Middle Earth and return over the seas with the rest of the elves. Though it breaks his heart, Aragorn tells Arwen that they cannot be together before he leaves with the fellowship.

After his childhood in Rivendell, Aragorn spends a great deal of time wandering the entirety of Middle Earth, but especially the northern lands. He lives as a Ranger, a man of the wilderness, an outcast by definition despite how the Rangers secretly protect those who treat them as such. When Frodo and the other hobbits first meet him in Bree at the beginning of the Fellowship of the Rings, he is noted as quiet, strange and a bit intimidating. And it's true. Aragorn is often very serious, and when he is intent on something, little can get in his way. His first interaction with the hobbits is to sweep Frodo away after an accident with the Ring and scold him for his careless and foolish mistake. Aragorn is usually quite patient, but in such important things, he has little time to mince words. He does not sugar coat things, even if he is very skilled diplomatically when the situation calls for it (as can be seen later, especially in his interaction with Theoden, king of Rohan).

Though the hobbits don't know whether to trust Aragorn (or Strider, as he calls himself at the time), they choose to follow him. Frodo says that he trusts Aragorn because a servant of the enemy would "look fairer but seem fouler" to which Aragorn seems genuinely amused and assumes that it must mean that he looks a significant bit fouler than fair. His sense of humor is subdued, but it does make appearances often enough. He grows close to the members of the Fellowship (Frodo, Legolas and Gimli in particular). He smokes a pipe and enjoys singing and trading stories, he laughs at the antics of some of his less serious companions. In general, there is a spark in him that has survived despite the dark times and the difficult situations he has lived through.

Even so, throughout everything and even in his happier moments, there is a distant weariness and sadness in Aragorn that never really goes away. Perhaps he has seen too many battles or is too burdened with the threat that Sauron poses to the world in general, in part blaming his bloodline for the Dark Lord's continued existence. This does not mean that he is a gloomy or morose figure. On the contrary, Aragorn is not one to dwell on situations or feel bad for himself. He is always trying to move forward. Even after the "death" of Gandalf, he gathers the grieving Fellowship to continue on, even if Boromir initially thinks it cruel to not give them the time to grieve. But Aragorn knows that danger is close behind and will not risk the rest of his companions.

There is a deep sense of loyalty in Aragorn, to those who he undertakes to protect or who are his friends and loved ones. He will fight to the death for them. When Merry and Pippin are kidnapped, he runs for days on end in pursuit with Gimli and Legolas, and later, when Frodo is moving through Mordor he openly announces himself as Isildur's air and declares his claim on the throne of Gondor to distract Sauron, even if he is unsure about fulfilling that role. Aragorn is often more than he believes himself to be. He still greatly fears his own weakness, even after he is able to send Frodo away with the Ring, not giving into its temptation, proving that he can overcome what his ancestor could not.

It's very rare that Aragorn's temper flares -- outside of battle, but even there, it's a very controlled and focused determination more than rage. When it does, he is quick to forget and forgive and move on. He is much quicker to mercy, even imploring Theoden to spare the life of the traitorous Grima, saying that enough blood has already been spilled. Aragorn is thoughtful and measured, and there's a gentleness about him that is surprising considering how skilled he is in battle. In the siege at Helm's Deep, when so many are despairing, a young boy who has been called to act as a soldier catches his eye because of his apparent terror, and Aragorn makes a point to speak to and reassure the boy, to try and give him some courage.

People are drawn to him again and again, due to perhaps the confident but humble and quiet way he carries himself. Or maybe it's a less precise variety of charisma. He acts as many would want a leader to act, even while doubting his ability to become the king to reclaim the throne he was born to. He takes responsibilities very seriously and will do all in his power to see them achieved. He looks out for his friends and vehemently protects those who cannot protect themselves. Though he is from a line of kings, there's a humbleness about him. He does not engage Boromir in anything to do with the throne of Gondor, which Boromir's family has acted as stewards to for so long. Despite the tension between the two, he manages to connect with him and is there for Boromir when he dies, helping the other man find some absolution and peace.

Aragorn is a flawed man. He is full of doubt and has spent his life avoiding facing that fear. But he is beginning to stand up to his destiny and do his best to fulfill it. He often seems a little world-weary. But he is loyal and unafraid to fight for what he believes in or for the people he loves. He sometimes succumbs to anger, but he seldom lets it get to him for an extended period. Throughout his long years (and he has many left ahead of him; 87 is the prime of life for men of his lineage), Aragorn has seen many things -- suffering, pain, war, love, friendship -- but he's still growing as a person, still coming to realize his entire potential.

**Though Aragorn is from film-canon, the novels that the films were based on supply a lot of the history of his character in the timeline before the movies.

Abilities/Powers:
Aragorn has no powers beyond what is normal for humans -- except that his people are exceptionally long-lived. He is 87 years old, but physically is in the prime of his life.

However he has a number of notable skills. He's an excellent tracker and hunter, able to move through the woods nearly unheard and unseen, after all his time with the Rangers of the north where he mostly lived in the woods. He's skilled in combat with a sword as well as more close combat with his knife or hand to hand if he must. Though he is no elf, he is no slouch with a bow and arrow either.

He speaks both the Common Tongue and Elvish fluently.

Though it is not touched upon too much in the films, he is a skilled healer as well.

Items/Weapons:
1. Anduril -- his sword, (reforged from the shattered Narsil)
2. Long, curved dagger
3. Evenstar Pendant Necklace

Sample Entry:
[It's not all that different from a Palantir, Aragorn thinks as he gazes down at the little device in his hand. But that's concerning in and of itself. After all, in the Seeing Stones, it's never clear who is on the other end.

Maybe that's true here. After a long moment he speaks, voice calm, low.]
So much in this place is strange to me. There are magics and machinery at work that I have never witnessed, never even heard tell of. Even in story and song, nothing ever came close to what I have found here.

[Here, he pauses, eyes dropping for a moment, brow furrowing just briefly. It's a lot to digest, so to speak.] I am not so arrogant as to think I can begin to understand all of it, but perhaps at least in some way...

I do not know who may be hearing this, but if anyone would be willing, I have questions. There is little I can offer in return now, I fear, save my gratitude.

Sample Entry Two:
Aragorn had never feared the dark. Too many places in the world were full of it; to fear it was to invite hesitation, and in the moments that count, hesitation can be deadly. But more than that, darkness was an old acquaintance, one he had spent a great deal of time in solitude with, in the wilder places of the world. So even though this land was strange and foreign, even though he was yet certain that dangers lurked in the not-so-distant edges of the night, Aragorn was not afraid.

It was less confining out here, in the open spaces, than it was in the shared apartment. Not that he minded his roommates. They all seemed pleasant enough, and they were all swept up in this same mess, whatever it was in the end. Whatever the purpose of their captors wrenching them all out of their homes and worlds and dropping them here, Aragorn doubted it was good.

The small campfire burned small and smokey in front of him, chasing off the chill in the night air only slightly. But it was better than nothing. Even if it might well draw attention of anything that hunted or stalked the darkened night, well. He would risk it, since it was only him. More than that, he wanted to know what lurked in the shadows, what threats waited and stalked, unseen. Would they attack a man alone? True he was isolated, but he was not unarmed. Not helpless.

Even now, his sword and its sheath were close, an inch from his hand should he need to draw it quickly, to defend against any violence. And Aragorn was alert, listening and watching, despite the fact that to any who passed close enough, he would look as though he was simply tending his fire, unaware of what may be passing by outside that little ring of light. But even as he listened and waited, remained on alert, his thoughts did wander. Back home. To his friends who must question his absence, who he could not bear to think of having abandoned to the battles that awaited them. To Arwen, who waited and waned back in Rivendell. To the throne that had seemed so inevitably at the end of his path, even if he was not yet convinced of his capability to claim it.

The night was quiet, but Aragorn's thoughts were not. Somehow it made the silence deafening, interrupted by the quiet crackling of flames.

Personality:

Even from only first impressions, it's easy enough to describe him if you were asked. Mysterious. Unnatural. Otherworldly. Ethereal. But they all point to the same thing: he's strange, he's alien, he's different. With his pale skin, white hair, oddly-colored and pupil-less eyes, along with a strange fascination with people and the ever-present sly smile on his face, he certainly seems suspicious enough. Add that to his tendency to speak cryptically and avoid straight answers, and it's really no wonder that most people react to him with apprehension. Perhaps some of his quirks could simply be brushed off as, well, quirks. But there has to be something more. And if you guessed that "something more" meant that he was inhuman...you would be absolutely correct.

No matter how human he may feel or act, his true form is that of the last Septentrione, Alcor.

All of the Septentriones, different as their appearances and powers may be, share one thing in common: they exist to destroy the world so it may be created anew according to the administrator's wishes. They are but mere tools of a greater will, which is that of the world's administrator, Polaris. Swords of the absolute. Tools of destruction. Some may even call them mindless monsters. The calamity they wreak is part of their programmed purpose as set by Polaris after all, so they do not and cannot feel otherwise.

Except for Alcor.

Out of all the Septentriones, Alcor is the only one who possesses a human form, and as a result, is the only one that is able to communicate with humans. Unlike the rest of his kind, he is the only Septentrione seemingly able to defy the programmed urge to destroy. The only one who wants to learn more about people, and feels actual guilt if he kills or hurts them in any way. The only one willing to risk his life for them, even in the face of erasure from Polaris. The only one willing to aid humans, from ancient times, to actively rebelling against his creator thousands of years later, which completely goes against the very purpose of his existence. And as proven by the end of his route (should the protagonist choose to take it), Alcor is also the only Septentrione willing to give up his physical existence for the foundation for a new world.

Simply put, he loves, and has always unconditionally loved, humanity. He loves people just as they are, with all their flaws and imperfections. Even though he has witnessed all the horrible things humans are capable of over the course of thousands of years, he also believes they are capable of wonderful things as well, and are filled with endless potential. In fact, it is this potential he tried to nurture by giving humans in ancient times anything they desired. What makes them happy? What is their purpose in life? Would they be happy if they were given their purposes in life? He wants to know the answers to all of those questions, and more. It is due to a mix of love and curiosity that he even taught humans (the Hotsuin family in particular) how to summon demons without the use of a program, and created Nicaea and the Demon Summoning App later so people could prevent their own deaths. In other words, he gave humans the tools to fight back against demons and the Septentriones, despite the fact that it meant they would fight back against him as well. And he's perfectly fine with that.

What he has learned about human beings has been done (both emotionally and physically) distantly, simply watching but never touching. Alcor, given his circumstances, is a bit emotionally stunted. Most of the time, he feels guilt, remorse, and more guilt, but he is also only capable of feeling small amounts of extreme emotions such as happiness and anger, though he may not know exactly what to call such feelings. Getting him truly angry is a very difficult task in itself, with his patience and lack of emotional understanding. When he speaks of humans and their interactions, he speaks as an curious and analytical observer looking into a different world which absolutely fascinates him. He constantly wonders about the potential of mankind, while simple things such as human greetings and blunt, honest answers can even make him laugh. For all his worldly knowledge, he easily misses jokes, references and lacks knowledge on how to act appropriately in certain situations. Case in point, he doesn't think that suddenly appearing and disappearing in the middle of conversations is inappropriate. Neither is eavesdropping, or forcefully dragging someone else (such as Daichi) off with him. Sometimes, he shows up behind people without warning or making any sound, which even startles the protagonist. As he himself puts it, he's rather careless about human customs. He does apologize afterwards if he thinks his actions are considered rude, though.

Despite his somewhat sinister outward appearance and mannerisms, Alcor truly has good intentions. During the party's first encounter with him, he strikes down one of Megrez's buds, and even tells the party how to defeat Megrez itself. Following that, he drops the protagonist a few hints on how to defeat Alioth as well, though he refrains from being straightforward about it, saying that he's only there to watch their liberty. He finds much more satisfaction in leading people on to the answer with hints instead of giving it directly. As a sort of guiding figure, he's there to nurture humanity's freedom and their choices, not coddle them. That's not to say he's the type of person to withhold important information all the time; he's actually rather forthcoming about it when certain people ask. Later, it's revealed that he was the one who gave humans fire, language, and art, so as to watch their potential blossom, and he tried to prevent/mitigate the damage from the invasion despite not being fully at fault for it. Nothing gives him more pleasure than assisting humanity and in fact, he might even say it's an honor for him. When he's concerned, he's genuinely concerned about others' wellbeings. "Are you all right? Why so worried? Is something troubling you?" He'll be the first to ask such questions, but he certainly won't be the first to answer them himself. In the end, he honestly just wants what's best for humanity, no matter which path the protagonist takes, but the problem is that he's not sure what the "best" is in the first place, and doesn't have a concrete sense of "right" and "wrong", to boot.

However, that's not to say he won't fight back or act when he has to. While he would very much prefer to come to a peaceful resolution or simply watch from afar most of the time, he understands fighting is necessary when there isn't enough time for long explanations and discussions. He isn't a total pacifist, and will definitely step in when he feels it's necessary. For instance, when he realized that Yamato intended to recreate the world into a meritocracy as he wished, instead of protecting humanity and its freedom, he actually attempted to trap him in Sapporo (and endangered many JP's officers' lives while being responsible for the death of at least two), where he would have died from Alioth. Was it drastic? Absolutely. Was it necessary? To him, yes, because it was for humanity's sake, and when it comes to humanity, he will not concede. Furthermore, when Yamato threatened to overload a Terminal with enough power to kill the entire party, he retaliated with a strong dance spell to stop him. With Ronaldo, when the man jumped him, he flung him off of himself with enough power to kill him. Granted, in both cases he arguably struck back in self-defense (the latter to protect himself as he was startled by the sudden attack, the former to protect everyone else), he felt guilty and lamented for them afterwards, but he also still felt that he could do nothing about their decisions to die. If he has to sic a demon on people (namely, JP's officers) to get to the Tsuutenkaku to test humanity's potential, or send one of his demon minions to brainwash someone, then so be it...though he'll try to prevent casualties and mitigate the damage as best he can. Additionally, if said demon steps out of line, he won't hesitate to berate or even threaten to destroy it. Once he has his mind set on something, he'll set out to complete it as well as he can, and if anyone gets in his way, he will use force to shatter their ideals, so to speak. Let it never be said that Alcor isn't capable of being downright ruthless and manipulative when he wants to be. ...He can only hope that it won't have to come to that.

Very much like his name, which means 'lost one' or 'friendless one' in Arabic, Alcor is actually rather alone. Ever since he started doubting Polaris, which led him to split from the administrator and the rest of the Septentriones, it is very likely that he has also never had a single, actual friend or someone he even considered a confidant during that timespan. Though he "teases" (for lack of a better word) that he thinks himself as a helpful friend of the protagonist from time to time, it's probably not wholehearted, given that he had to ask him if he actually was their friend. Instead of his true name, he gives them an alias (Al-Saiduq) since he doesn't think humans would trust him simply because of what he is, and would reject or blame him instead. It's also why he's genuinely surprised and touched by the fact that the party (and especially the protagonist) still believes in and trusts him even after Yamato revealed that he was a Septentrione and supposedly their enemy. When he does fully trust somebody, he'll risk everything for them, including his life, and can become rather protective of them. In a similar vein, he also harbors a sense of guilt about the world's disastrous situation, which is why he calls himself the Anguished One. In his view, if he had never helped nurture mankind's potential for freedom, humans would not have lost their desire to live, the world would not have become as "saturated", and then Polaris would not have made his judgment and deemed mankind as corrupted, leading to humanity's suffering and the world's deletion. This burden, along with his crisis of identity due to his split, has weighed him down for many years, and it is difficult for him to let go.

Adding to that, he has an odd sense of self-worth, or lack thereof. While he is fairly confident in his power, he is anything but when it comes to his worth and ability as a person, an individual with free will. He doesn't mind dying at the hands of the protagonist's party, because he believes that is the reason for his existence. When Yamato degrades him by calling him a monster or a creature, he doesn't even flinch, simply letting it all roll off his back. He doesn't understand why others would be upset that he died, because as far as he's concerned, to serve and die as Polaris' sword is why he exists in the first place. When he falls in battle, he does not comment on any pain whatsoever but instead apologizes for failing the protagonist, and in other routes, even goads him to "...defeat me. Defeat me and create the world you desire, Shining One!" As much as he loves the free will that humans have, he does not believe he himself has much of it unless the protagonist teaches him otherwise. In fact, that is what he loves about humanity, for they are bound by no rules and possess no duty to a higher being. The stars, as far as they are, still have to obey the rules, and as the companion star of Mizar, Alcor is no exception...or so he believes.

All in all, he is the Anguished One. Nothing more, nothing less.

Abilities/Powers:

As a Septentrione, a "sword of the absolute", he has several abilities, which include:

➝ Teleportation. Usually done by flying/fading away, blue aura sometimes included, or phasing like a ghost, and he can even teleport others.
➝ Telekinesis that allows him to break things psychically, as well as levitate objects.
➝ Levitation, which he himself uses to hover nearly all the time. He doesn't even consciously think it's out of the ordinary.
➝ Access to the akashic record (which would normally allow him to "predict the future" with Nicaea, but he obviously can't access it in Haven so this is pretty much useless.) He can also take the Heavenly Throne and control the Akashic Record from there, as he's a Septentrione (or part of the alien race that's allowed to do so), but bringing that up with him at this canonpoint will just make him really sad instead because it's basically showing him what he can't have. being alker is suffering
➝ Sensing demons, angels, mythological figures, and other supernatural beings. He has sharp senses (supernatural and not) in general, given that he was able to pick out Makoto and Fumi, who were hiding and trying to ambush the party. He also has the ability to sense "potential", but it's never quite explained clearly in any iteration of canon what that means (aside from ~possibilities~), so that's moot in play.
➝ Apparently he can also alter his human form ("can appear both youthful and elderly") according to the artbook.
➝ Ability to alter substances on a molecular level. This includes destroying his own demons on a molecular level, as well as modifying the molecules of...food...to make it taste delicious to humans. He's much more prone to using it for uses like the latter. Priorities. However, this won't be able to work on certain substances/matter in Haven (aka anything the mods don't approve of, like tampering with the environment or monsters too much and whatnot).

COMMAND
Ominous Star - Inflicts Ill-Star to one team. His signature attack. The Ill-Starred ailment only lasts one turn, but causes the affected character to take an 200 additional damage when they are hit. RP-wise, the ailment allows him to augment his attacks with a powerful magical attack, but it only lasts for a few minutes, and he will only use it sparingly in his human form.
Holy Dance (or a darker version of that he can use to augment his physical attacks, according to cutscenes.) - Inflicts moderate Almighty damage on random targets. Hits 2-5 times total, max 3 times on one enemy.
Mazandyne - High Force (Wind) damage: all foes.

PASSIVE
Life Lift - 20% of maximum HP is restored at the end of every skirmish. This pretty much means he has a higher rate of regeneration/healing himself than normal humans.
Anti-All - Damage from all attacks and ailments except Almighty attacks taken -50%.
Dragon Eye - Enable 3 actions in a turn. RP-wise, this means he can do 3 actions in the time it takes someone to do one (e.g. he can lob 3 spells when the other only has time to cast 1. Think quick reflexes or something.)

RACE
Alcor Proof/Alcor Warrant - Can ignore obstacles. This is pretty much his teleportation/phasing ability.

are you tired of the special snowflakeness of all this yet Stat-wise, he's a jack of all trades with the exception of his magic stat; he also has the highest amount of health and MP out of all the playable characters, so he can take quite a few hits, provided they don't damage his core (basically, heart) too much.
➝ He's much, much stronger in his true form(s), with even higher amounts of health as well as physical and magical strength along with shifted strengths and weaknesses (seriously, he's not called a sword of the absolute for nothing), but the chances of him willingly transforming are very, very slim. According to the anime, he can use his metallic wires in his human form to stab, slash, and bind, Doctor Octopus style, but he won't be showcasing it very often, relying on his spells instead.
➝ He also has a natural immunity to Curse spells, as he nulls it in all of his forms. His inhuman constitution and natural immunity to ailments/impurities probably doesn't allow him to get sick, drunk, poisoned, or anything of the sort (unless induced by events, Haven, or Septentrione toxins, namely Alioth's/Benetnasch's).
➝ In-game, it's stated that conventional man-made weapons such as guns and bombs (and even nuclear weapons!) have no effect on Septentriones, which most likely extends to him as well. However, this can be nerfed, if necessary during events and whatnot, so that such weapons can harm him, but he'll take much, much less damage than one would expect out of a normal human. He can survive a few bullets to the head, no problem. (Thanks to Life Lift, that'll heal up fairly quickly too.)
➝ While he can normally summon any demon in unlimited amounts, even without using the Demon Summoning App, the only demons he will be able to summon in Haven are Bifrons aka the one demon that's actually a pain in the ass for him to manage and Botis.

Items/Weapons: Just his cell phone, similar to the model used by JP's, with the demon summoning app programmed on it, as well as Tico, a (debatably annoying) AI interface he created to guide users of Nicaea. Nicaea is a service that allows anyone who's signed up to it to receive "death clips", which predict others' deaths, but since he's cut off to the Akashic Record in Haven, it's rendered useless. His phone also has the Cathedral of Shadows program (which allows him to fuse his demons), but it won't be used since he's stuck with a limited amount of demons anywayt, so it'll mainly be used for poking around the programming or taking pictures or something.

Sample Entry: Thread/log in another game.

Sample Entry Two:

From one dreary world to another. "Haven", was it? A name befitting the area, yet not quite, in his opinion. Though there was some security and refuge to be found, the place itself could be as dangerous as any monster. It unsettled him a bit, admittedly, being pulled from what could be called death only to be at the whims of another higher power, and with the added "bonus" of having his biology tampered with to make him as susceptible to the dangers as any other human. He wasn't all-powerful, but he never claimed to be, either. (...Just nearly akin to something all-powerful. Details, details.)

Nevertheless, he certainly wasn't human, and it showed, the most obvious example being that it was a habit of his to simply fly up to the top of a building to observe how humans lived their lives, no matter the world. In this case, it was fascinating to see how humans survived and thrived, even in an environment such as this. Though both flora and fauna were unsettlingly absent, humans weren't. Humans scavenging supplies, doing what they could to survive, with buildings crumbling around them and monsters roaming the earth (well, roaming the tunnels)...were unfortunately, not a new sight to him. At the very least, he could take a miniscule amount of comfort in the fact that he was reasonably sure it was not entirely his fault this time, but he could not feel comforted at all if humans were suffering in such a manner, weighed down by the necessity of survival and plagued by paranoia and the dangers around them.

"Humanity continues to carry on in a ruined world such as this..."

How familiar. Alcor sighed and glanced at one of his summoned familiars standing next to him, whose candelabra was lit with faint flames, almost silently urging him to speak. However, the skull-headed creature that donned the formal suit of a man said nothing, and Alcor had to content himself by returning to his observations.

Stay an observer, he told himself quietly, the ever-present thought humming in the back of his mind. Don't interfere in the affairs of humans. They could take care of themselves. Stay out of it. That was the logical thing to do.

Except he was not exactly a "logical" creature.

If he was, he wouldn't be debating whether his thoughts were logical or not, at that very moment.

Rising from his seated position on the rooftop, Alcor took a few steps off the roof, floating in the air as if he were standing on a platform made of glass, and looked down at the town below. It was crumbling to pieces, literally and metaphorically. He looked at his side once again, but there was no familiar to be seen. Disappearing with little trace or flourish...it was almost as if the demon had learned from his master. He pressed a hand to his mouth, covering the small smile that formed.

Casually putting a hand in his pocket, Alcor descended, and landed with little more than a gentle tap on the ground.

There was work to be done.

Personality:
Kirito is annoying. Kirito is a cool guy. Kirito could be both of them too. People's general first impression of him tends to lean towards positive or neutral judging thanks to how he acts. First of all, he's quick to approach you when he notices that you're in trouble before offering you help, just like some veteran players in any average MMO. Or he could just let loose some snide remark if you happened to be his friend, and he'd still help you anyways. Compared to his portrayal in the SAO arc and ALO arc, Kirito has chilled down from his time-pressed driven self, but that doesn't mean that part of him has been lost completely.

Whenever Kirito has a goal in his mind, without a doubt he'll devote his mind to achieving it. Even if he needs to focus on other things, there's always some parts of his mind thinking about said goal. Whether it's escaping from the Death Game known as Sword Art Online or getting Asuna back from the clutches of Sugou, he puts the main goals in the forefront of his thought and the others on the back of his head, clearing those minor goals whenever he could and still putting effort on his main goal. In a sense, Kirito has some weird tunnel-vision when it comes to his goals. That in itself is another cause for the problems he's encountered throughout his life.

Distancing people tends to be something Kirito is well-known for back in his Aincrad days. Being a solo player during the period of time the «Death Game» was taking place, he tends to prefer to work alone unless his partner is one of his close acquaintances. Nowadays he's not averse to working in parties, but still for most of the times keep his own thoughts to himself. In the Underworld arc, it's quite obvious that he's keeping the truth of the world to the others. Compounded with that is the fact that he's keeping secrets from Eugeo about his real reason of climbing the tower.

Guilt is another concept that Kirito's awfully familiar with. During the duration of Sword Art Online's service, Kirito's reason for becoming a Solo Player is partly because of his need for efficiency. The other part that he rarely disclosed to anyone but his closest friends is the fact that he doesn't want to people to die around him. This was due to the fact that he got all his guild members killed due to his failure of disclosing complete information about himself. The loss of a certain member called Sachi was what caused him to be obsessed with finding an event item that's said to be able to revive a killed person. During that period of time Kirito's eyes were completely empty and soulless, the immense guilt having eaten him over completely.

To others close to him, Kirito's definitely gentler, in a sense. He's more likely to tease them as well as act a bit more open to them. While that doesn't mean he's readily sharing secrets with them, it does mean that Kirito at least trusts them enough to show parts of his true emotions to them. It's readily obvious that Kirito's willing to go through hell and back for his loved ones and close comrades. This is shown by how he aimed to clear Alfheim Online's main objective to save Asuna, as well as getting out of the Underworld as soon as possible so as to not worry his friends. If you thought his tunnel-vision towards his goals were bad, it's worse when it involves his friends. It's shown that if you harm them, he's not going to hesitate to kill you without second thoughts.

Even with his capability of holding his temper in check in daily situations, it's surprisingly easy to get Kirito to snap into anger. Threatening his friends with words or insulting them in front of him usually triggers this response. Another possibility is to be as much of a villain as possible, or to have tricked everyone in a massive scale of one's true intention. Without a doubt that while Kirito's already an impressive fighter during his normal state, it doesn't compare to his berserker-like strikes and ruthlessness when he's angered. The fact that he can't lose any more loved ones also served as an impetus for him to end fights as quickly as possible when pressured. This attributed to his precise commands for his skills as well as his movements in the fight, so as to end it within a few strikes.
vorpalstrike: (really?)

Abilities/Powers:
Sword Skills:
Within the Underworld, besides the proficiency of wielding Sword-type weapons, Kirito has access to several «Secret Art Finishing Moves» basically «secret moves» that works as your standard MMO skills in layman's term. Considering that these moves are just the same moves that SAO had when its server was active only with different names, Kirito can use them without even learning them.

Of course Underworld has it's limitation in the sense that you need a certain level Object Control Authority to even be able to use 1-hit skills, and even more for multi-hit skills. As of right now Kirito has only access to 4-hit skills.

Currently, Kirito has his own style of fighting different than those established within the world, even though they came from the same source. Kirito's style is called 'Aincrad-style' after the same world these «secret moves» came from. The skills that have been used so far during his stay in the Underworld are as follows:

Sharp Nail - (3-hit combo)
Sonic Leap - (1-hit strike) a charge-type sword skill that dashes toward the enemy to deal a downward strike
Horizontal - (1-hit strike) a simple sword skill slashing horizontally
Snake Bite - (2-hit combo) two left and right swings that target the opponent's weapon, with a chance of breaking the weapon.
Vertical Square - (4-hit combo) a mid-level sword skill tracing the shape of a square.
Spinning Shield - (defensive skill) a skill that spun the player's sword, creating a pseudo-defensive barrier.

Sacred Arts:
Magic. Well, it would be magic if it's invoked in a normal way, but for the most part these are what pass as them within the world. Using the command «System Call» and «generate (x) element» will cause said element to appear from thin air. In layman's term, they generate these very elements with a partial admin command, as several other individuals are able to access this very ability too.

The element variables that could be used with « generate (x) element » are:
‣ aerial (wind)
‣ aquarius (water)
‣ cryogenic (ice)
‣ luminous (light)
‣ metallic (metal)
‣ thermal (fire)
‣ umbra (darkness)

Incarnation: The capability of overwriting certain system parameters with the power of the mind, in other words, using imagination to rewrite reality. Kirito's not really able to use this power yet, but it's just mentioned in case in-game happenings enabled him to access this power.

Sample Entry Two:
Kirito felt it, the ringing of the shadow blade he had been learning to use as he clashed against the monster before him. Familiar and yet not, the being called «Gleam Eyes» stared him down as if he was an old friend and enemy at the same time. He wanted to laugh at the irony of their encounter, one seeking a ghostly vengeance of long past, while the other is reminded of the nightmare he managed to escape from. In any case, it was no use running now, that thing's «SPD» greatly outnumbered his when it came to running away in this tunnel. Staring at each other in a stalemate, both monster and human stayed still, waiting on whoever took the bait first.

The monster rushed forward.

Ah, he could hear another roar as the monster charged at him, intent to kill clearly written on its face as it swung its all too massive sword at his general direction. Of course, he couldn't just take it directly, so as the swing got ever closer to his face... he moved his sword at the general direction alongside the swing as he jumped to the side, parrying it with not a time to spare. Normally he would've blocked with his second sword, but since this isn't «Aincrad's» system, all he could do was that. At the very least it did give him an opening as he then rushed at the giant ram humanoid as it tried to pull its sword off the ground.

" «Vertical Square» "

Four diagonal slashes in the shape of a square connected directly with the monster's abdomen, causing it to roar in pain. There's a grin as Kirito, even without the Stacia Window could tell that it's getting weaker. I can do it, without two swords, I can do it! It was not his cockiness speaking, but rather his determination of getting through to Haven North alone in order to gain an actual proper sword. Without sparing a bit, he's going to rush in again with another att-

...

Pain.

Agony.

He could only feel that as the sharp edge of the monster's zanbato cut into his stomach.

---

Kirito, no, Kazuto Kirigaya crashed onto the ground with a loud thud as he tried to gather his breath from that wound, but it was no use. Gleam Eyes' right foot is raised, and with one swift motion, it was brought down on his chest, causing the boy to scream out in pain. Unfortunately for the boy, he was alone. Alone as a man could ever be in this tunnel of death.

With a grin, the monster plunged its Zanbato on the young man's heart.

---

Ah. I'm dying.

There's a weak laugh as he could hear the creature lumbering away, probably returning back to it's «normal» status now that no one's in his domain.

He couldn't feel pain anymore, only the finality of the fact that his life is finally 0 and that he's fading away. After all this time, what killed him finally was neither Kayaba's vengeful ghost, the Administrator nor natural causes. It was just an old nightmare.

"...I'm sorry, A...su...na..."

With those words, uttered as the strength to speak was sapped from him, Kirito disappeared into small fragments of light.

Shoma Takakura | Mawaru Penguindrum | Reserved

[personal profile] frogspawn 2013-10-25 11:16 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
The best way to describe Shoma is motherly. He makes it his duty to cook and clean and (+ he's quite good at both) and he's always the sibling trying to keep a balance between Kanba's impulsiveness and Himari's carefree attitude. Family is by far the most important thing to him, and anyone he cares about that deeply he'll fight to the death for. Not to say he wouldn't do the same for friends or even strangers-- Shoma is shown to be fairly altruistic, going as far as jumping in front of a car without a second thought just to save a friend from being the one hit. Afterward when he woke up in the hospital, the first thing he did was apologize because the friend had scraped her knees even though he'd tried hard to protect her completely.

He's a strong believer in always doing the right thing and he can be pretty reserved about it, such as when he needed strong urging from his brother to simply go inside a lingerie store and how he outright refused to go inside a girl's room without her permission just because he claimed it wouldn't be respectful towards her. A gentleman, this one. At least most of the time. Sadly, despite him being generally kind, Shoma has a tendency to speak without thinking and often comes off as blunt/sassy/snarky, which at times can be hurtful. He told Ringo countless times that she should give up with her plans, that things were over between her and the man she had feelings for because he was getting married and that continuing would be useless-- not because Shoma is a quitter, but because logically he just didn't see the point. He's a realist in that sense and unless someone shows him otherwise or it's for someone he cares about, he just won't bother with it and accept whatever may come.

Speaking of someone showing him otherwise, Shoma is incredibly easily to rope into things. You could get him to do just about anything with enough pestering and maybe a light threat here and there. At first he's adverse to the idea of following Ringo around to try and get her diary (the PenguinDrum, an item that can save his sister's life), and once they start talking he's still always complaining about all the ridiculous things that the girl gets up to and that she has him do (weird, weird things: at one point one of those even involves a frog laying eggs on his naked back)-- and yet he still does them all anyway, because it's for the sake of someone he cares about.

Unlike his brother who tries to hold his feelings in for the sake of being strong, Shoma is very emotional. He tears up when he's happy or overwhelmed by something cute and he bursts out into hysterical crying when something terrible happens to someone he cares about. Even so, he's not good at dealing with real, permanent loss. There was a time where Himari was dead for a good while and nothing was working to resuscitate her, and it was then that Shoma completely froze up and had zero reaction other than to mumble a few things, but he was otherwise completely out of it. He's fast to spring into action when he's needed (jumping into a lake to save Ringo from drowning and giving her CPR) but he needs extra time to process negative things that affect him.

Despite Shoma being oblivious/naive to things that most boys his age would be interested in (i.e. girls), he's desensitized and more acquainted with stranger things like big elaborate illusions, weird aliens that live inside hats, the idea of stalkers, and other things of that nature. So his being in Haven wouldn't be much of a shocker past the whole "Oh, it's not Tokyo" thing. He wouldn't be particularly happy about it, but he would learn to adapt, because that's just what he does. He takes whatever life throws at him and deals with it-- because he believes he's destined for that kind of misfortune. When Shoma and his siblings were young, their parents were involved in some terrorist attacks that killed a lot of innocent people, and ever since then he's truly believed that the world itself hates the Takakura children and that they must be punished. He might actually be a bit relieved to find himself in Haven, because if this is the punishment he must bare, it would mean that his sister is safe back home.

Abilities/Powers: Excellent cooking skills and the power to be overemotional. He also knows some basic survival skills like CPR. Other than that, he's just a normal human.

Items/Weapons: cellphone, kitchen knife, the sweater Himari knit for him.

Sample Entry:

... haaa, this better not be another weird survival strategy, because it's not very funny. Or creative.

[ the voice comes in soft, mumbled as if far away. Shoma was too busy pressing buttons and turning the device over to notice it had already turned on, so there's silence coupled with the static that comes from brushing against a receiver for a few seconds before he speaks up again ]

-- I got it! [ ahem. ] This is Shoma Takakura speaking, sixteen, from Tokyo. I guess I... kind of understand what's going, and I don't really mind having to be here, but is there some way we can use this thing to communicate with someone back home?

[ a beat, to let that sink in and oh god maybe he's talking to himself, what if the people he's seen aren't real ]

Aha, another thing, if you don't mind-- am I going crazy?

Sample Entry Two:

Haven. He'd already gotten the basics down from someone taking pity on him in the big apartment building, but it was still hard to believe it despite living it. Shoma had tried pinching himself over and over until his entire arm was red... and still nothing. It wasn't a nightmare. He wouldn't wake up in a cold sweat any time soon in his small home. Wouldn't have Kanba to kick awake so that they'd both have to deal with being awake at a ridiculous hour. Wouldn't get to sit outside Himari's door and watch her sleep, her soft breathing calming.

Shoma wasn't surprised that his thoughts were on his siblings. They were what mattered most, after all-- and he'd much rather be the one here than them. Kanba could take good care of Himari. The teen took a deep breath, urging all his worries to go away with its release, and was almost disappointed when it didn't go as planned (then again, he hadn't expected it to work). No matter. It was still his first day here, and who knew how long he'd be around? He'd have time to get used to it.

He ignored the pang in his chest at the thought and focused on his walk. It was still daylight out so he figured it should be okay to explore, get familiar with his surroundings. The emptiness made him miss the busy Tokyo streets-- another thought he pushed away as he made his way inside what seemed to be the remnants of a high school.

"Geeze... talk about nostalgic." He mumbled, eyes wide and scanning over one of the classrooms for a few seconds before he continues further.

[personal profile] notsengumi 2013-10-25 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Chizuru is a very kind hearted, polite young lady who finds herself thrown into a situation that is far greater than her, and far, far beyond her power to even dream of controlling. She's gentle by nature, and openly admits that, while she has basic knowledge of self-defence and knows which end of a sword to hold, she fears battle and the thought of harming other people greatly.

Compared to the company she keeps, Chizuru can seem almost painfully innocent and naïve about the world around her and the people who inhabit it. In reality though, Chizuru is not an idiot by any stretch of the word. She truly wants to believe the best in people, and holds tightly onto their good qualities even in their darkest moments: for example, she whole heartedly wants to believe that, after her father Koudou's betrayal, there is still some of the man who raised her left in him. In some routes, her faith is rewarded, and in others not, but the point stands that she truly believes in him, and does the same for a lot of characters in the series. She continually looks for the best qualities of the people around her, even if she ends up hurt in the end.

Chizuru is also fairly self-aware, and perceptive about some things. Not necessarily everything, as the other characters find her very easy to wind up and tease due to her more innocent nature, but she has enough common sense to take care of herself in more everyday situations. She explains that her father often took trips away from home, prior to his disappearance, which implies she took care of both herself and her home for semi-long periods of time while he was gone. She also had enough foresight to realise that a girl her age making a trip alone from Edo to Kyoto was guaranteed to run into trouble, and made the decision to disguise herself as a man in order to avoid unwanted attention.

The fact she took it upon herself to make such a long and dangerous journey by herself says a fair bit about her kind-hearted nature: she loves the people close to her dearly and unreservedly, and her sense of right and wrong is very strong. She's more than willing to do what's right over what would keep her safe, and it certainly isn't because she has a lack of self-preservation. Chizuru will put herself in the firing line to help someone in need with barely a second thought if she has to, even when in other situations she may be more level-headed about the danger she's in. When it comes to people in danger, or the people she loves, Chizuru will do whatever she can to help.

This side of her; the desire to do whatever she can to help the people she cares about can lead to her being very stubborn, and sometimes to hurting herself – usually emotionally. Chizuru is acutely aware of just how much she owes the Shinsengumi, and just how little she can actually do to repay them for their kindness. They put a roof over her head, help her to smile when she's feeling down, and took it upon themselves to protect her even after they learned she wasn't human. In contrast, Chizuru isn't a warrior, and isn't strong enough to help on the battle field; knows little of battlefield politics and her opinion of what is best for the members of the Shinsengumi (such as Sannan being alive, even if his dominant arm has been rendered near useless) often conflicts with their opinions on what's best, and their sense of pride (the realisation that if Sannan cannot fight, he has essentially died anyway, as he will never be a warrior again). The most she can do is run minor errands and make tea, and this fact frustrates her endlessly and in a lot of routes leads to damaging her sense of self-worth.

So, when she can do something to help, Chizuru will dig her heels in and refuse to budge until she's been allowed to do so. A good example crops up in Sanosuke's route, where he tells her to run away from a battle while he keeps Shiranui occupied in battle. In order to avoid a bad ending, Chizuru has to outright refuse to run when Sanosuke tells her to, choosing instead to stay and help. Chizuru realised that, while she has a lot of issues with abilities as a Oni, she realises she has more of a chance surviving a hit from Shiranui's gun than Sanosuke does, and she uses that to her advantage by choosing to act as (essentially) a meat shield for him. Although it drags her insecurities about being so different to everyone else right out into the open, the alternative – Sano getting injured, or possibly even dying – is completely out of the question for her.

What Chizuru isn't aware of is the fact she does help out the members of the Shinsengumi. She doesn't always get to directly help out in a battle, or help the Shinsengumi's cause. What she does help, though, is the Shinsengumi individually. Possibly due to her general compassion and empathy, she sees beyond their roles as captains of the Shinsengumi, and sees them directly as people, specifically people she trusts and loves, first and foremost. Over the different routes in the game her presence and nature, her natural resolve and just by being a constant presence in their lives slowly gets the others to consider themselves, and their roles in and outside of the Shinsengumi. She helps Saitou realise they're more to him that just his swordsmanship, and more importantly that she isn't the only person who sees him as Saitou before Saitou-the-swordsman; she unknowingly prompts Sanosuke to consider what he really wants out of life, and helps him realise that wanting to settle down and protect someone you love is just as important as wanting to fight for the country you love; helps Heisuke solidify his own resolve and come to terms with the fact that even though he's a Rasetsu he's still Heisuke, and he's still important to her; helps Okita realise there's more to him than just an extension of Kondou's will and a means to helping achieve his dreams through the Shinsengumi, giving him new purpose out of the life he has left; and she becomes the one constant Hijikata has left in his life during the ending stages of the war, by stubbornly refusing to leave him when he demands she does so.

This, of course, brings up a major flaw in Chizuru's kind hearted nature. She puts all her compassion into worrying about others, but buries her own feelings deep down inside. Small things, such as feeling a little down or helpless aren't such a big issue – she brings these issues up in her own way, and works through them. But in order to avoid becoming even more of a burden to the people around her, as Chizuru truly believes she is, she smothers her bigger issues to the point that they can overwhelm her. Sanosuke points out she spends so much time thinking about other people that she misses the things right in front of her; the little things she can do to make people feel better, the ways in which she does help other people, and the things she really wants out of life. It often takes her a long time, for example, to realise that she's in love with one of the potential suitors, mostly because the things going on around her command her attention first and foremost. Luckily, the people around her are more than willing to point these things out to her if given the chance, but she is good at hiding her really big issues and not letting on how she feels until prompted. For example, Chizuru puts her foot down rather firmly with Okita in one scene, where he tries to reiterate the fact he's a dangerous person and Chizuru would probably be better off not hanging around him all the time. Chizuru's response essentially boils down to “No. Stop being stupid.”. When she's forced to think about an option - does she want to be with this person, does she want to take this path – her decisions are sound and she sticks to them wholeheartedly... but she often needs that initial push to get her to truly consider them.

Abilities/Powers:

As a pure blooded demon, Chizuru benefits from greatly accelerated healing abilities. This is looked into in various depths in the different routes; she can heal from a bullet wound within minutes, and heals from a deep sword wound to her arm overnight. These healing abilities are also the cause of her reluctance to fight, despite her basic self-defence knowledge, and her subsequent fear of fighting. Even before she knew her heritage, she was aware of how different her abilities were, and how she could be viewed as bizarre because of them.

Despite this, Chizuru isn't invulnerable – a bullet directly to her heart, from the front or the back, would kill her just like it would kill anyone else, but she can take a fair bit of non-lethal to near-lethal damage before she goes down, and heals from minor wounds very quickly; ranging from instantaneously to overnight.

As a pure blooded demon, she does not suffer from the all consuming blood lust the Rasetsu do. However, she does not have the strength and honed skill to benefit from increased speed and strength, in part due to her fear and reluctance to fight, making her a weaker fighter despite her natural abilities when she VERY hesitantly has to be, compared to the rest of the cast.

However, for the sake and setting of the game, Chizuru's abilities can be toned down. Minor injuries, cuts and bruises would still heal quickly but her instantaneous healing would be gone, and bigger injuries will take much longer to heal than she's used to.

She also has some basic skill with her kodachi. She was trained to fight with one in self defence when she was younger, but her own fear of her healing abilities led her to shy away of putting what she knows to use. In trying to hide her healing abilities, she gained something of a uneasy fear towards fighting that still troubles her now. However, she can and will defend herself if she has to, even if she isn't as skilled as the members of the Shinsengumi.

Ah, sorry for the belated addition, but I can't edit it into the proper section on my app anymore - would it be possible to request that Sei share an apartment with Chizuru Yukimura?
