We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

Items/Weapons:

(1) Sword! It's a small sword obviously made for a child and is normal in every way .
(2) A pack of chalk.
(3) A ball of wool, which is a magical artifact handed down throughout her various lives. The wool is endless and will never break, but it can be cut easily by anyone with a pair of scissors. (Thus it can be used to climb buildings or track a path through a maze provided nobody decides to cut it. Katie mainly uses it to entertain herself, though.)

Katie had been here all of three days and still wasn't tired of exploring. There was a distant thought that she should probably be paying attention to the fact that she wasn't allowed to leave, and maybe that might start being frightening tomorrow. But for now, so many people! So many of them with magic, and lots of heroes, and weird hair, and swordsmen, and there was even a ninja turtle one floor up! ...ruder than she remembered from the cartoon, though. She gave him a wide berth. (For now.) It was a whole brave new world to explore, and Katie wasn't in any hurry to go home until she was done-- and she'd met every interesting person here. Hefty goals, but she was up to the task.

If there was anything at all frustrating her about this place, it was that the buildings apparently took offence to her chalk drawings. She'd return down one street to find all her carefully placed arrows and hopscotch grids had vanished, and at first she thought someone was following her and removing it all, which was very rude. Who really cared, in a ruined city like this one? She was just trying to brighten up the place. But when she decided to stake out her own artwork, she was fascinated to see it vanish all by itself. Creepy and fascinating, but still really rather rude. She thought she'd lodge a complaint if she ever found someone to lodge it to.

In the meantime, maybe it was time to head back to the apartment block. But only because she was hungry, and definitely not because she could hear a faint scraping sound in the back streets that sounded like it was coming this way, accompanied by a cold, creeping sense of grey banality that could really ruin a person's day. Not hers, of course, but...

...well, she could make all the excuses she liked to herself later. Katie gathered up her chalk and hightailed it back to the company of warmer people.

One last thing:

Katie is loosely based on the Changelings which are sourced from a series of RPG books under the White Wolf label, which provides a setting only; it’s designed for people to make original characters from that setting, and I am drawing the changeling society/structure from there. (In fact, this character is distinctly a stand-alone style of character, but I wouldn’t feel right without mentioning that her inspiration comes from here.)
