Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE
We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.
In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.
While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

Ada Vessalius / Pandora Hearts / Reserved
Contact Info:
Other Characters Played: Garry (
Preferred Apartment: None
Character Name: Ada Vessalius
Canon: Pandora Hearts
Canon Point: Chapter 75
Background/History: History / Info / Series overview
Personality: Ada is one of those characters that exemplifies the saying "in the wrong place at the wrong time." She is not a major player in the conflict between dukedoms; she had no role in the events of Sablier from 100 years ago. She's not even a member of Pandora or contracted to a Chain. All she has is the misfortune of being born into the Vessalius household and befriending a great deal of those who are mixed up in the sordid tale the past wove. In spite of all this, though, she proves herself capable of keeping up with them and handling tragedy after unforeseeable tragedy as they are hurled her way.
She is, first and foremost, a very sweet and noble girl. Ada is, at least on the surface, the picture of what a proper lady should be like: she is gentle and kind, beautiful and devoted, but insensitive to her class ranking, treating even the lowest in status - homeless children - with respect and love. She is dearly beloved to those she's close to. The Nightray household is known for feuding with hers, and yet she holds no ill will towards its members, even when that feeling isn't mutual, as with Elliot. Despite his harsh words, she continues to hold nothing against him, even saying that she believes him to be a good person.
Such behavior is another prominent quality of hers. She's spectacularly loyal and faithful to those she cares about, and her determination is actually really impressive, especially in comparison to the ease with which other characters in the story lose hope and fall into depression. When Oz fell into the Abyss, she did not lose hope that he was gone forever, though she was lonely. Nor did she simply wait around and pine for his return - while she was aware of her limitations as a normal citizen, she actively researched methods she might be able to use to bring him back in her own way. When he does come back, she easily accepts him again as her brother, even though she has aged 10 years while he was frozen in the timeless Abyss, making him now younger than his little sister. Oz was still Oz to her. Similarly, she is completely loyal to Vincent, who she's very much in love with; while she is unaware of a great deal about him, she can tell that there's sadness within him, and has pledged to stay by his side and protect him always. Ironically, this is a case that shows her trusting nature is a double-edged sword - Vincent is only using her, for the most part, and she's too blinded by her feelings for him to tell.
She is very sensitive and seems to be mostly moved by her emotions rather than logical thinking. Ada easily becomes attached to people and things, sometimes to the point of obsession, and has a tendency to overreact emotionally in certain situations. She cries easily, and has ever since she was a little girl. In a way, she's also very shy, blushing frequently; when she shares particularly romantic moments with Vincent, there's always a chance she might suddenly become so embarrased that she'll flee the scene, although she at least seems able to read the mood enough to not do that every time. She flusters quite easily. Generally, however, she maintains a friendly disposition around others, in spite of her shyness.
Ada also possesses a remarkably good ability to tolerate and roll with the punches life throws at her, a talent likely derived from her extremely faithful personality and tendency to react based on her feelings. As mentioned before, she had no qualms accepting Oz as he was, despite how different things would be from now on - in comparison to how Gil reacted to his reappearance, her quick and easy welcome is particularly impressive. When the 'Baskervilles' and the Headhunter crashed the second coming of age party, she did not resort to panic, despite the fact that she had no real way of defending herself. Instead, what she focused on was picking up a blade and attempting to defend Vincent, of all things, in the face of almost certain defeat. And again, upon hearing the news of Oscar's death and her father's lack of emotion on the matter, she immediately stood up for the man, going so far as to attempt to slap her own father in the face for his behavior. This is where her strength really shines through: where other characters fall into uncertainty and fear, Ada tends to stand strong and do what she thinks is right, even though she's often incapable of doing much on her own.
These qualities are not always good; for example, she's clearly a little reckless and impulsive, and there are definitely some ongoing situations where putting a little more thought into the matter at hand would have probably led to a better outcome for her. For example, if she'd actually managed to fight on Vincent's behalf, she undoubtedly would have come out injured or dead. Ada's stubborn loyalty can also be attached to the wrong sort of people, which Vincent is certainly a shining example of. As of right now, it's unclear how that relationship will turn out, but if Ada is unsuccessful in having a positive effect on him, she probably won't make it out unharmed, either mentally, physically, or both.
Abilities/Powers: As far as we know, Ada has no Chains or any other such powers, so... none. It's possible that she knows how to use a sword, but there's no real proof of it, other than she was at least prepared to attempt to defend Vincent with one, if she had to.
Items/Weapons: Nothing in particular!

Sample Entry Two:
Ada had already figured that the earthquake she'd been experience back home was no normal natural disaster. But waking up in an entirely different and bizarre city of some sort - it is a city, right? it looked like it might have been one once - had been pretty much out of the question. Yet here she was.
Naturally, she'd wanted to panic. Anyone would. And for the first few minutes, she certainly had, nervously skittering around her roo for something, anything familiar, any piece of her surroundings that could clue her in to what happened. Even now, it was obvious from her expression that she was holding back tears, face flushed with their pressure. But she didn't panic. No, if she'd learned anything from the trials she'd faced so far, it was that all the crying in the world wouldn't make them go away. She had to do something herself.
So wandering Haven's halls today is one very determined young woman, dressed in a beautiful silk gown, hands clasped to her chest, and looking mildly terrified. Just mildly. (It's more than mildly.) But, giving no quarter to her not-so-mild terror, she'll be reaching out to the first person she sees.
"E -- Excuse me! Please, you must help me...!" Her voice trembles a little bit, and she's looking up with big, watery eyes, but there's a stubbornness to her gaze that says that she's not expecting to walk away without answers.
