Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

Nilvana "Nil" Freire || Crepuscule || Not Reserved

[personal profile] concentrical 2013-12-16 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
Name: Jae
Contact Info: baleiya (aim)
Other Characters Played: None
Preferred Apartment: None

Note: I use a different rendition of the character's name from the scanlation groups. Both are valid until canon supplies an English spelling.

Character Name: Nilvana "Nil" Freire
Canon: Crepuscule
Canon Point: Chapter 131
Background/History: What are you looking at, idiot?

Personality: Abused for his entire life, Nil is a strong believer in karmic justice. He considers his vengeance the Sermenys' and Navarus' price, as well as the following punishment he incurs for his misbehavior to be his bail. Backed by years of scheming, Nil's violent tantrums, too, are fueled by the realization that the majority of his lifespan has been spent imprisoned. With nary a thought for other goals, all Nil wants is to raze those who have wronged him: His need for retribution serves as his purpose in life.

To that end, Nil has a keen mind that grabs at any opportunity within its reach. He uses people without qualms, rather finding delight in manipulating and breaking his tools for the sake of his vendetta. His is a sadistic streak, bolstered by self-satisfaction and tempered by terror, because Nil is desperate for control.

Nil knows how to sweet-talk, how to belittle, and how to fight. Although outspoken, he has his share of negative, two-faced comments running through his mind instead of out of his mouth. For years, he has held a stopper over the darkest and most insecure of his thoughts, the outbreak of which reveals his fears of his life not being his. His defense is to bark and bite, molding his confrontational habits.

Although he bears no love for the nobles, Nil remains standoffish and pragmatic when faced against those of a similar station to his. Cynical since the beginnings of his misery at Navarus' hands, for whom he had once sung high praises, he has nothing good to say about others and maintains his distance. He is neither warm nor cold toward those unrelated to his quest for revenge, though he would stamp on them if it would further his progress.

But where Nil lacks in discipline, he more than compensates with his work ethic. In addition to his background as a servant, Nil previously did the majority of the paperwork for the Student Council; his absence in the council scene makes an obvious impression when Sai bemoans the work he has to do alone and Sekreuz is saddled with a table's worth of papers. Whether Nil likes or dislikes the task given to him, he gets the job done.

Abilities/Powers: As a junior student at Arzew, Nil has been taught the arts of typical magic and swordsmanship. He claims that he is no slouch in battle and backs his statement through throwing knives, which he wields with stunning ease, speed, and accuracy. His unique ability allows him to create a tunnel that stretches as far as he walks and leads to somewhere – or something – foreign to Crepuscule.

Nil is furthermore weak to the following as a vampire long sheltered by the world of Crepuscule:
  • Sunlight
  • Holy water
  • Silver
  • Garlic

Items/Weapons: 3x throwing knives

Sample Entry: Test Drive Entry
Sample Entry Two: There would be a bad, metallic taste in his mouth whenever he saw the billboard. All the same, there would also be the taste of something sweet, if bitter, when he remembered all the hopeful types spouting heroic words that were deaf in meaning to him. They were obtuse. It was such a desperate grab that he had to keep himself from laughing every time, even if he hated the situation.

The corner of his lips twitched.

Most of all, Nil could have keeled over from the sheer bliss and fury of being ripped away from Navarus. Instead, he shoved the first rock his foot probed with a grumble. He had moved prisons and nothing more. The reminder that he was trapped this time with no face to direct his efforts stank, his features crinkling into a grimace. He grit his teeth but gasped without noise when the earth under him shook violently for a fraction of a brief moment, the bated breath knocked out of him.

Cursing inwardly, he crammed his hands in his pockets and started to trundle back to the apartments. There it was unpleasant, but no less than the outside, where old buildings collapsed from the slightest quake. Between the two, he was more used to useless chatter.

No inconvenience at all. Here we are, yip yip:
Above all, resentment drives Nil's actions. Hatred is his crutch; it is the one thing he has known for almost a hundred years with no reason to value his criminal existence as the apparent product of adultery. He loathed the only world he knew in the dark cell, and, following his fostering by Navarus, has channeled that negative energy into plotting revenge against the nobles. Nil has dedicated himself to a battle not just for survival, but also for the satisfaction of his anger.

His battles begin with the Sermenys and Navarus, the latter of whom he consistently defies. Thought of as no better than a dog to be tamed, Nil swallows the pain of punishment and never backs down, often choosing to fight on uneven ground. Navarus embodies another bitter betrayal, painting him a prime target. Their wrangle has lent to Nil's roundabout tactics at getting back by dragging in those related to Navarus.

Although aware of Sekreuz's estranged relationship with his father, Nil targets him regardless for being the son of Navarus and an aristocrat. He revels in crushing Sekreuz's self-esteem and furthers his plans by manipulating Carne, the fiancée. After snaking a hand around her heart by posing as a friend, Nil crushes Carne when the opportunity presents itself and brims with glee at the damage. The sweet façade he had adopted in his two-faced scheme ends, revisited by an unrepentant smirk, highlighting the extent of his maleficence.

In spite of his consistent bickering with personal enemies, Nil's bipolarity surfaces best around uninvolved folk such as Lark, at whom he lashes out for seeing his injury. Nil does not like to be seen in a vulnerable state, and thus shuts himself in when he is hurt. When aggravated then, he strikes in a manner reminiscent of a wounded animal by attacking with reckless abandon. Reason is lost as he goes mad with fury.

In his sedate moments, Nil is blunt and dismissive, qualities that Bathory claims are his kindest. He bears no interest in anything or anyone beyond the scope of his revenge quest, being all around unpleasant and boorish, nor does he intend to change the fact.
