We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.
In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.
While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

Sanji is first and foremost a cook. While some may call him a chef, and he is, a cook is what he is down to his marrow. One who gets up every day and provides nourishment to all those under his care. Keeping everyone fed and healthy to the best of his ability is one of his primary motivations. Due to his past, being marooned on a rock for sixty days with no food and little water, he knows how it is to starve and crave food and as part of his personal coda, he refuses to let that happen to anyone else. This extends to friends as well as enemies, no matter the consequences of said action. If someone or something is hungry, Sanji will feed them. In addition to not letting anyone go hungry, he also doesn’t waste a morsel. Wasting food is one of the worst things you can do because, living on the sea as he does, you never know when food will run out or what disaster may happen. It’s best to use everything for the very last scrap of nutrition.
He provides more than just food, however. It’s good food. Nutritious food. Energizing food. He knows how to make food work for him and how to make it look and taste delectable. Though he pays more attention to the ladies' meals, men, too get what they need and what they want to eat. Moreover, he enjoys cooking. It’s his life’s blood. His passion. So much so that his ultimate desire is to find the All Blue, an ocean where all the fish in the world converge, or so it’s said, and he wants to cook them all. Additionally, cooking for him is an evolving process. He is always learning new recipes and new ways to make things and will go to great lengths to figure out how to recreate a particular taste.
Sanji’s second of all, a man and he’s very definite about this. Raised by a gruff ex-pirate chef and surrounded by equally gruff pirate cooks, Sanji has a mouth on him and will curse more often than not. He has formed a pretty gruff exterior himself. When it comes down to the wire and he has a choice of saving either the glorious bountiful Nami-swan or Usopp, a fellow male crewmate, he will flat out tell Usopp that Nami is his number one priority, so good luck.
Yet when push comes to shove, Sanji will do his best to help if he has to. Despite his gruff exterior he’s easily one of the most compassionate members of the crew, his soft side showing up mostly around the younger guys like Chopper or occasionally Usopp. This makes him pretty good with kids as well. His compassion is also tied in with a sort of self sacrificial nature. While he doesn’t leap headfirst into foolhardy suicide, he will be the first to run and fight for his crew no matter what it may cost him. He even offered his own life in the stead of Zoro, who is his rival and who he fights with all the time—but he is also crew and Sanji would, and almost did, die for him.
The third biggest aspect of Sanji’s personality is his adoration of the ladies. He loves ladies. No matter how mature he may seem at times, he is also a 19 year old man with raging hormones and boy do they rage. Partly stemming from a childhood surrounded by men and having little contact with those of the feminine persuasion and partly because of his rampant love of their wonderful valleys of soft bosomy flesh, Sanji will dote and fawn over nearly every lady that traipses into his presence. This is where he will act the goofiest, throwing himself into tornadoes of love or calling their names (or just cooing out the word 'mellorine') in sweet rapture. He can also be a touch creepy sometimes when it comes to the ladies, but 99% of the time he does respect their boundaries because, most of all, he’s a gentleman and wouldn’t dare hurt a lady. This is even to his detriment as he refuses to kick a woman even if she’s his enemy and this has gotten him into trouble. He’s also easily lead by women, them being an ultimate weak spot to him. Though he would never betray his crewmates, he is often putty in a woman’s hands. Despite this he can have normal conversations with women and knows when to step back or step up when it’s important, at least with words.
Tying in with this is his relationships with men. For the most part, he is pretty normal. Gruff at times but polite enough if it warrants it. For his own crew however, he is more relaxed, comfortable with being his gruff cursing self because they can take it and they damn well better. Zoro, however, presses all his buttons and they fight all the time, testing their strength against each other. To Sanji, Zoro is the really irritating older brother who doesn’t do anything but loaf around and pick at him and he wants to show the green haired jerk who is stronger—but at the end of the day Zoro is still a brother—that is to say, family, and, as I’ve mentioned, Sanji is more than willing to die for him.
More subtly, Sanji is, for the most part, all about presentation. Much like food tastes better when it’s presented a certain way, so he presents himself, dressing sharply in suits and ties. Sometimes when he fights he will say and do things because they make him look cool and debonair, whether or not they actually do, the important thing is that he believes them. In actuality he is not as cool and unflappable as he may appear. Though he’s confident in fighting, when things get tense and his crewmates lives are in danger, he gets tense like a wire wound too tight, which is partly (it seems to be implied) why he smokes so much. There’s rarely a moment where Sanji doesn’t have a cigarette in his mouth. Evidence of this is seen in the Skypiea arc, he and Luffy and Usopp set off to rescue the others and Nami could be in danger. Luffy and Usopp are goofing off and Sanji beats them both for it and then takes several tries to light a cigarette. In another arc, while they are going to rescue Robin, he is seen trying to light a cigarette as his leg jiggles a bit. When he's not being tense or trying to show off, he hs the potential to be goofy as shit. Especially when ladies are involved, though he has been known to join in Luffy and Usopp's over the top exuberance about things.
Finally, Sanji is perceptive. When not being distracted by wheels of love, he can see what other people are feeling or trying not to feel. He understands people at a basic level, but doesn’t always reveal this unless it’s absolutely necessary for them to know that he gets it. On another level, this perception leads Sanji to go the back way at times. In other words, while he will be at the forefront fighting, he’s perceptive enough of what’s going on to slip behind the scenes and do the things that need doing—such as opening the gate so that they can escape. This has sort of been to his detriment as he hasn’t had a good wanted poster yet, but he still does what needs doing no matter what.

Abilities/Powers: Sanji’s power is in his legs. Most of his attacks come from various kicks just relying on his own strength which is pretty significant. In addition he does have the diable jambe which, from the wiki: - Diable Jambe, the power to heat his lower legs to a temperature so high that they glow bright red, by spinning rapidly in place, which causes his attack to be more powerful. Though, at the moment, he can only do it so many times. He also has shonen-like durability which means it’ll take a lot to take him down permanently.
Additionally, though he is quite good with cooking knives, he won’t use them to fight unless there’s a really big exception.

Sanji absently leans his elbow on the counter, cigarette smoking between his fingers as he scribbles down the recipe before he can forget it. It’s not that complicated but some of the steps are a little tricky and he wants to remember it so that he can improve it next time. It’s not so bad, this shitty place. At least there’s food. Shitty cans for the most part, but that doesn’t mean other food is unavailable. As long as he can make something for the others to eat, the rest of it will fall in place somehow… Some shitty way. Luffy would think of something.
A movement out of the corner of his eye grabs his attention and he looks floorward. Was that a mouse? A rat? Is the little bastard going near the trap? He can only hope so. It is a small amount of meat but meat is meat and he’s prepared worse before. Luffy will appreciate it anyway. A brief check of traps tells him he is still meatless for the moment so he sighs and takes a drag of his cigarette. Smart shitty mouse. He almost respects it but he’d rather eat it more. Ah well… There will always be cans. He turns back to his recipe and:
“What the hell?!”
He snatches the paper from the counter, staring at the blankness. Flips the paper over but there’s nothing on that side either. It’s like the whole shitty thing had been wiped clean. He glares at the pencil, wondering if there’s a kind of disappearing lead but knows it’s due to this shitty place somehow. This shitty place where they are all trapped and not even Luffy can break free of it.
Yet.
“You won’t beat me yet,” he mutters into the ether as he glares at the paper and smokes his cigarette. He’d improve the recipe even if he had to do it a million damn times. He could do that much at least.
