Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:

Personality: As a child, Sasuke played the role of little brother well enough. Loved his mother, wanted only to please his father, and wore his title as Itachi’s youngest sibling with admirable skill, both adoring and striving to be just like him – if not better. Yet, with his clan’s massacre at his brother’s hands, all of that changed. Love slid right into the realm of hate, and from that moment on, he has done nothing but push himself for its sake.

This has crafted a young man who has never once forgotten where it was he has come from – one of the most prestigious clans to grace Konoha’s grounds - and over the years, this has taken root and blossomed into something quite dark indeed. From it, a haughtiness has spawned that has him bowing before no one, not even for shows of basic respect. It’s head held high in a cool show of arrogance and eyes that glitter with frigid condescension.

He’s distant and does little to dispel the image he has crafted for himself, which is namely that he is better than you. This has become more of an understood matter since he left his village, where he lets his talents speak for himself on that. In fact, there seems little of the fire-branded youth that Sasuke once was: searing smirk on his lips, ready to gloat or easily prodded into overreacting out of jealousy and a self-consuming desire to be strong enough to kill that man. Rather, in the power he has garnered since his betrayal, Sasuke has become enshrouded in cool confidence, one that at times might lead you to believe there is little left beneath it all of the boy who had once cowed his own Ego for the sake of saving his teammates.

One could say there’s something of a mystery that has come to cloak this older version. He shields his thoughts readily, giving nothing away most of the time, and if he does, it’s only when he’s pushed to his limits, and even then, those minute betrayals of reactions can be difficult to come by. He’s far more composed, more calculating even, yet manages to give a sense of honesty whenever he speaks. Perhaps it’s the seemingly unshakable confidence, or maybe he’s just learned to deal deceit as easily as he does blows. Whatever it is, Sasuke moves through his life with a certainty that no longer acknowledges any other possible options.

The only thing that has seemed to temper any of this is the fact that under it all Sasuke held on to some semblance of caring. While he rarely offers a comforting word and tends to seal all actions with a scalding pride, it didn’t change the fact that when push came to shove, he wasn’t about to leave a teammate for dead or kill anyone unnecessarily. [Granted, as far as “the rest of the world” is concerned, he doesn’t seem to give much of a damn for the most part - unless it's Konoha, and then that, well. . .he has his thoughts on what precisely they deserve for all that his clan, his brother has suffered. And one could argue easily enough that it’s the fear of losing yet another person close to him that drives his rasher actions – though, the idea that anyone is considered remotely close to Uchiha Sasuke might take some people by surprise.]

There have been glimpses of this side of him – a strangely nostalgic smile, the thank you that winds its way out when a teammate comes to his aid or the fear that rises and drives him to save a fallen teammate – that creep out every so often. Subtle things that are rare occurrences, but let you know that not everything had been slain for the sake of revenge, that something of a heart still remained underneath all the ice. The lasting vestiges of a time spent as part of a team hardly forgotten, of the boy that might have once been if not for a moonlit night steeped in blood.

Make no mistake, however, he is still cold to the touch with one current objective in mind. He’s neither wholly good-gone-terribly-awry nor is he the boy-next-door, but rather he walks somewhere between the two, making his own way as he once stated he would.

Sasuke maintains this attitude – distant but in control, aware of all he is and what he wants - throughout most of the time skip. However, there’s an abrupt shift that comes with the Kage Summit. Regarding his interactions at the summit, the cool facade begins to dissolve. Whatever control Sasuke held over his own emotions breaks down, leaving behind someone who is wholly consumed by the power of his own hatred.

Several major changes occur with Sasuke during the summit fight and his meeting with his former teammates. The first notable change is the one noticed by Karin - Sasuke's chakra. It becomes a darker, more malevolent thing, signifying an internal shift within him where his previous 'morality' becomes an eroded, almost forgotten thing. While his initial attempts on the Summit itself are met with failure - of a sort - Sasuke does get his wish in facing off with Danzou, a man he held responsible (among others) for what had happened to his brother and clan. As if that wasn't enough to further ignite Sasuke's rage itself, when it's revealed that Danzou had embedded the eyes of his family across his body, one could argue it may as well been that final cut to Sasuke's last tie to anything remotely "good" in that moment. The pain and anguish of not only staring down the man who had callously sent his family to its death and his brother to his exile on the hope Sasuke himself would kill him - or be killed in the process - but realizing the desecration of those remains severed Sasuke from any "reason". From then on, it was nothing more than a cold-hearted, hot-blooded approach to ending everything that had taken it all from him.

By the end of this encounter, Sasuke was no longer the level-headed, cool-sighted ninja he had been on his approach to the Summit. What remained were simply those feelings of hatred and the sharp sting of betrayal made known once again - the village once called home, once believed in did worse than tarnish the memories of his brother, they destroyed what sanctity was there in the death and burial of his family. At this point, there was no stopping Sasuke from thinking twice about taking out, potentially killing his own teammate to achieve his end - the very teammate he had worked so desperately to save during their fight with Killer Bee. And there wasn't even the slip of a consideration for Sakura, yet again betrayed by "friend" and village, when she attempted to end his life only to be saved by Naruto.

But there, well. . .if there was one person Sasuke stopped to listen to, it was Naruto. Perhaps the only semblance of the person Sasuke once had been before being broken by his own hatred. Even as he stood defiant before Naruto, he listened - the only consideration shown to anyone. Even with Madara, his head now cooler than before (though clouded still by the darkness he had fallen further into), there was no respect shown. Naruto had been heard out, the lines between them drawn once more, and with that Sasuke left. . .and in that with the determination to now inherit his brother's eyes. This was that final bid for power, now with war looming before him.

Sasuke is next shown having recovered from receiving Itachi's eyes and making his way to the war’s main battlefield. However, before he can arrive, there is that critical moment when Sasuke sees his brother’s reanimated form and follows him to Kobuto. All of this to get the answers he so desperately wants to hear from his brother himself – what really happened that night, why did his brother do it, what really mattered at the end of it all. Itachi holds Sasuke off long enough on that matter, pointing out that first they must defeat Kabuto before anything of worth will be broached (highlighting again how Itachi works, even with his brother, questioning and open as he only ever seems to be with Itachi, standing before him, and the power his holds over his brother, who accepts all of it and works with Itachi as asked). During that fight, we get a glimpse into the dynamics of them both – how easily Sasuke accepts, trusts even, his brother as the man he remembers, recalling previous history that helps guide their actions in their fight. We see Sasuke as someone who had already accepted the idea that the man his brother was after the massacre was a fabrication. Yet, Sasuke also proves himself as the impatient person he had become, Itachi reminding him at several points to be rein himself back in, to not be reckless. And Sasuke does listen, to an extent, having faith in his brother despite everything that had occurred between them over the past few years.

The end of Sasuke and Itachi’s fight with Kabuto proves vital to Sasuke’s future development. The truth, as only Itachi could tell it to him, and a simple declaration – that he would be loved no matter the path he chose. Words that sent Sasuke questioning the very nature of shinobi itself, for the first time shaking up everything he had believed he had known about his own world and his current desires for it (as spun by his hatred). His pursuit of those answers lead him to consult with the first Four Hokages, and in that Sasuke found a new goal – he would change Konoha, not destroy it. In essence, he would protect what his brother gave his life up twice for, but he wouldn’t be idle in that. No, he would himself become Hokage.

Beyond this point (which is beyond Sasuke's own memory given his canon point for Haven), there has certainly been further development. His desire to push for Hokage is a declaration made as he arrives as Naruto’s side, joining again with his former teammates to battle Obito/the Ten-Tailed Beast and Madara. Currently that battle is still being waged in canon, and there have been moments where Sasuke’s motivations and actions have been questioned by those around him. He remains quick to strike, even to go in for the kill, yet there are moments that hit closer to his former personality than the man he was during the Kage Summit.

Abilities/Powers: A full list of Sasuke’s abilities can be found in the link provided for Sasuke’s reference. In brief, utilizing the chakra that runs through his body he can manipulate the elements of fire and lightning in various techniques, as well as basic ninjutsu skills, such as summoning clones and body-replacement abilities. His most notable element-based jutsu are the fire-release techniques that allow the user to utilize fire (from larger fireballs to setting other tools, like wire, on fire - there are various forms of this technique) and the chidori, a lightning-based technique that Sasuke has learned to manipulate in a variety of ways (the original is essentially a collection of chakra in one’s palm that has the power to slice/pierce through with devastating results; other forms allow him to essentially stun his opponents or slip lightning-based chakra along the length of a weapon, further sharpening/strengthening its edge).

Specifically to his clan, Sasuke has inherited the blood-line trait, Sharingan which has since expanded to the Mangekyou Sharingan in the time-jump. This allows him to perform blood-line specific abilities [track movements, memorize other jutsu, craft illusions/genjutsu and control other beings as well as summoning the ‘inextinguishable' black fire, Amaterasu, and Susanoo, a large warrior-type summon that not only provides defense but can attack as well (sword and bow/arrow)]. Since gaining his brother’s eyes, the side-effect of blindness that came from overuse with one’s own eyes is supposedly negated. One of his more devastating attacks remains Kirin, which requires certain natural situations to be in place to call upon, but essentially results in a large lightning strike from the sky destroying the area it hits.

He also appears to have made a new contract allowing him to summon a hawk. When this was made, however, was never stated, and the extent what he can call upon is unknown, though a hawk of sufficient size to ride upon was summoned. He also retains the ability to summon snakes, of various sizes as well.

Recent stats show that he is quite capable in most areas of the shinobi arts – taijutsu [physical skills], genjutsu [illusions] and ninjutsu [all other ninja skills requiring chakra]. In addition to these skills, he also wields Kusanagi, his chokuto, with due proficiency along with many of the weapons of his world [kunai, various types of shuriken, wire, etc]. Given his history and its training, Sasuke does have a fair amount of stamina in the physical sense and can go through multiple fights against difficult opponents while still holding his own (though they quite obviously wear on him and injuries have occurred). Additionally, given his time with Orochimaru, it has been noted that Sasuke has developed resistance to a number of poisons, particularly those involving snakes.

Aside from canon-specific abilities, Sasuke remains a very intelligent young fighter and is considered a "genius" in by those in his canon. While his emotions can, and have, affected him regarding his decisions, he stills retains an ability to look ahead to see what is needed to achieve his goals but also to think quickly on the spur of a moment, such as in the midst of battle.

Items/Weapons: From Sasuke’s canon point, he retained his chokuto, Kusanagi, a set of kunai and “bracers” that acted essentially as an additional weapon store – seals are placed over them, allowing the user to instantly call forth a number of them (shuriken was seen most often) simply by touching over the seals themselves.

Sample Entry: [A dimmed scene, the kind that implies a comfortable familiarity with those underworld types. Dingy yellow light spills over the scene from somewhere off to the left, and though the setting itself looks relatively clean, there’s a certain slick of ill-used that seems to infiltrate it all. But, that may just be the lighting. . .

Whatever the cause, it seems to affect the current occupant little. A young man stands just a little to the right, back to a countertop. Alone from the looks of it, and just a bit battered, clothes speckled with dirt and blood.

Dark eyes center on the screen, the hostility evident. Hardened with anger, indignation.]

As far as I can tell, this isn’t the last world I was in. [A point made clear when those eyes flash red for a brief instant.] What I want is any information about this place you may have . . .or the way out.

[The tone is chilled in its matter-of-fact nature. The young man shifts, pushing away from the counter and reaching for the device.]

If you can’t provide any of those, don’t waste my time.

Sample Entry Two:

A breath, then it came. That quick, four-step dance to set up the kill, and in its wake, Sasuke merely watched as the creature staggered, then fell. A final groan is given, chest rising and falling hard with the effort. At its end, he simply sheathed Kusanagi and turned his back to it all.

Set and done.

There was blood in the air now, something he considered momentarily (what others would it now attract) only to brush it aside with a tip of his head. Because it wouldn’t matter. Whatever came, he would take it on until the path was clear. Though, how long this darkness would stretch on for. . .he didn’t know. But, there had been a way in. There would be a way out.

And that was why he moved. The direction was linear. No second-guessing which step to take or how, though he was conscious enough to cloak his own footfalls, to pull Silence to his side. He could hear the faint skitterings of smaller things, whether they were akin to that creature or simply mice roaming the tunnel. . .again, what did it matter in the end? If they stayed out of his way, all the better for them.

If not. . .

His fingers coiled back towards his palm, all preparation and steel-set resolve. Fighting for what was needed, what was wanted (and he wanted nothing more than his way back out of this wretched wasteland) was not something he would balk from. Not even in this place.

As for the others. . .well, that would be another matter.
