Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

Personality:

Robin starts the game as, essentially, a blank slate. She's found passed out in a field by Chrom, Lissa and Frederick, with only the knowledge of her name, and Chrom's name. Despite this, Robin does have a distinct personality, which reveals itself over the course of the game as she settles into her role as tactician and gets used to her new friends and fellow army folk. She is undeniably gifted: forward thinking, sharp witted and very cunning, with a talent not only for tactical plans, but also with strength and skill in battle.

Her close relationship to the scion of the Exalt's bloodline and by extension his family is made very ironic when Robin's origins and the reasons for her amnesia is revealed. Her father turns out to be one of the game's major villains, and Robin herself was part of a project in genetic breeding to create the perfect vessel for the dark god Grima. When Lucina, Chrom's future daughter, fled to the past to try and change the events that would occur there, Grima (in Robin's body) followed her and attempted to take over the Robin of the past's body. Luckily, she was unable to retain the memories and rejected Grima's influence, resulting in her amnesia.

As such, Robin is a very interesting mix of knowledgeable and intelligent, yet also naïve and childlike in some ways she views the world. She's a serious person, wholly devoted to her place in the army; she's frequently noted to be a bookworm, studying tactics whenever she has a spare moment so she can improve her skills, but she also holds herself to the very difficult goal of getting her entire team through the war without losing a single soul to the fighting. Obviously, how successful she is depends on the player, but the idea that in the middle of a violent, blood thirsty war with the fate of the world riding on its outcome, Robin clings to the wish that she can keep every single one of her friends safe and improves herself to this goal reflects a somewhat idealistic side to her nature. Her more childish side does crop up often in her supports – she ends up in a prank war with Lissa; resorts to throwing figs at Lon'qu when he refuses to train with her due to his fear of her gender (even going as far as to sneak into his tent at night to smack him around the jaw with one!), and reacts with embarrassed violence when Chrom walks in on her in the bath (and vice versa.). While she tries to remain serious and focused on her goals, she isn't above it all and can end up falling prey to pranks and tricks, and getting wrapped up in some of the sillier shenanigans of her friends.

For all her quirks though, Robin is universally liked among the upper ranks of the army. She cares for them all, and it really shows in her interactions with them. She's firm but encouraging with them, knowing they need to keep moral up, but also knowing they need to improve themselves to better the army. It makes sense really, Chrom's Shepherds are her world, quite literally. They're made up of the first people she ever met, and the first friends she makes afterwards, and she cares for all of them in her own way. The single-minded determination she puts into improving her skills isn't just out of her drive for knowledge, it's also to give her friends the greatest chance of survival she can. She's very open as well, as for the most part she has no secrets from anyone given her lack of memories, very forward with sharing the methods behind her strategies and very willing to part her knowledge onto others – be it her son, Morgan, in his quest to be just as skilled a tactician as her, or others in the army, such as Virion, who she tests her skills against during their supports.

That being said, Robin is known for spreading herself rather thin when it comes to fulfilling her duties to the army. A number of supports, and barracks conversations (depending on the time of day) note how tired she looks, or having her friends worrying she isn't getting enough rest, or taking care of herself properly. She does it all without complaint though; she knows how much the others rely on her and how much she can do to support Chrom in his endeavours. She participates in training sessions to keep herself fit, she holds council with Chrom and the other leaders to plan their next moves, and creates the battle strategies, as well as actually directing the troops in battle focusing on both their strengths and weaknesses and having to shift and switch her plans in a split second in the heat of battle. It's a testament to her close bonds with the rest of the army that they worry about her just as much as she worries about them.

As mentioned before, Robin shares a very close bond with Chrom, the leader of the Shepherds and heir to the throne of Ylisse. This bond is always especially strong, regardless of whether or not the player chooses to marry them; in fact the text in the Future Past DLC where Grima states that his original host 'loved Chrom' remains even if the two are not married. They complement each other, boosting each other's strengths and making up for their weaknesses: Chrom has the knowledge of the world and the charisma to earn the support of necessary allies, while Robin has the technical know-how of managing a large army, and the ability to support Chrom through his tougher trials, guaranteeing they come out on top. The two frequently refer to each other as 'two halves of a whole' and remain unfalteringly loyal to each other from the beginning of the game...

… which makes the fact that in the alternate future, Robin is the one who murdered Chrom and started the world's decline into annihilation. As such, the differences in the future Lucina and the children hail from to the one Robin lives in now only serve to show just how steely her determination is. Throughout the game, Robin has to face a number of painful reveals that shake what she believes and her place in the game. Following the defeat of Gangrel, she learns the new king of Plegia is actually her biological father, and in turn learns her heritage and her connection to Grima, which puts her painfully at odds with the Shepherds and their goal. The more that is revealed, however, the stronger her bonds with the Shepherds become and the more driven she becomes to keep them safe, even if it means keeping them safe from her, rather than an outside threat.

Essentially, Robin is a woman learning her place in the world, and more importantly, shaping her life without any influence from 'destiny' or what other people believe she should do. She's a kind woman with a good heart, who wants to help her friends and keep them safe in a time of great danger and death. Shaped by the bonds she forms, she goes from lost, contemplative and quiet to a woman truly determined to keep her friends alive. Whether that involves using her talents and skills to protect them in everyday battle, or finding the strength to the make the ultimate sacrifice to protect the world from a great and powerful evil for good.
