Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE
We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.
In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.
While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

Reverse/Rebirth - Journal Entry
"A boy who was born and raised on a small group of islands.
Riku dreamt of seeing other worlds, and so he forsook the islands—only to be seduced by the power of darkness.
Enslaved by Ansem, pursuer of darkness, Riku clashed with his childhood friend Sora. But in the end, he was able to regain himself, and together with Sora closed the door to darkness. Still, the dark wounds in Riku's heart have yet to mend."
You know those kids. The ones that act like the kings of the playground. The ones that come up with all the fun exciting ideas. The ones you want, nay almost need to beat in sports competitions. The ones that even the schoolyard bullies fear.
Riku... Riku's one of those kids. Clever, competitive, ambitious Riku. Or rather, he was.
He didn't grow up to be a bad kid, but he definitely set himself apart from the rest of the group and even from his friends. Growing up, he constantly competed against the others, Sora in particular. Whether it be small short races along the beach, fighting with their play swords or playing in the obstacle course, Riku was the kid to beat and he knew it. He's strong, and constantly trained himself to be that way, to be faster, stronger and above all the rest. Even other characters tend to remark on his resolve and power; Donald and Goofy never grew up with Riku and Sora, yet they know the extent of his strength. That rigorous training and will to be the best is a great contrast to Sora, with whom Riku somewhat remarks at being a lazybutt.
Of course, Riku's wanting to be strong never started out being a bad idea. Being the sweet, naive little kid he was, he had made a pact with a very special visitor to their islands. He proclaimed that he wanted to leave, to find the right power, and use it to protect the things that mattered the most to him: his friends. While the memory now would be foggy and he never did get the name of the visitor, it's something that's influenced his early development greatly, even though the exact promise never did fulfill itself the way he initially intended.
It does set up one vast virtue for him though; his ambition. Because of this drive for strength, Riku sought out various ways to get off the island and find that form of power. As a child, he heard of a story of a kid that had left to become strong. When Kairi first came along the islands, he got the clever idea of being able to leave willingly. This has stayed with him for years, and as he's trained himself, Riku has stewed over the idea of traveling for a very long time, something even Kairi admits to observing. When he gets an idea in his head and deems it good, there's little to stop him and he will find a way.
Sadly though, ambition is not always a good thing, and Riku's first mistake was out of desparation and through opening the door of Destiny Islands to the Darkness. It was almost a decision he made with a smile on his face, declaring proudly that he wasn't afraid of the consequences of his actions or whatever the Darkness will do. After all, he's the strongest kid on the island, right? That's always been who he is, and whatever will come, he'll be able to handle it.
WRONG. On so many levels. For all the ambition, the cleverness and being able to think on his feet, Riku's supposed knowledge of the world and title of the King of the Island fell back on him. When they separated and their home was destroyed, Sora found friendly smiles and people willing to help. Riku however, found a guiding hand through the forces of darkness, odd promises that would save only one of his best friends, and spark of jealously that was soon manipulated into a vengeful streak a football field wide. Riku was not nearly as lucky as Sora. He didn't have a weapon, no magic, no friends... just a dark fairy he didn't even trust, but would give him enormous power. It was easy to tap into that jealously and rage, because sometimes being the only kid on the top of the world, the only the kid that ever thought about leaving home or having adventures, it gets lonely. And when your friends make new friends and go those same adventures you've always dreamed of, things get bitter. And Riku was preyed on by that bitterness, turning it into a weapon with the hopes that he would be the hero and save Kairi, and put Sora in his place.
For all of Riku's cleverness and resourcefulness, he never thought once about his actions. He was so knee-deep in Maleficent's and Ansem's plans and with dark thoughts overtaking him easily, he seemed to almost forget his history with Sora. The effects of his actions wasn't really fully realized until it was too late, where he had lost control of his body and Ansem was destroying all the worlds. However, Riku still did what he could against his possessor, caring so much for Sora and Kairi that he stopped Ansem in his tracks and truly didn't allow himself to be snuffed out entirely. His heart gained immense power and strength, and Riku once again found the resolve in that promise that he had made so long ago.
That starts a whole new chapter in Riku's life and personality. The competitiveness he once grew up with seemed to fade away. Now the idea for getting stronger wasn't about being the best, but more it was about protecting his friends. Overcoming his demons and defeated the lingering fragment of Ansem in his heart isn't a bad thing either, but suddenly Riku's purpose turned into protecting his friends. He ruined his friendship with Sora in such a way that Riku sought him out, wanting to rectify things and ensure the other boy's safety. This resolve, powerful and right, becomes Riku's mantra for life for over the next year, so much so that he barely worries over himself or his state of being. Instead of the self extreme he once was, he become incredibly self-sacrificing, with every action and decision being made in the hopes of helping his friends, without regards to his own safety. That makes him a force to be reckoned with, and with the lingering power of Ansem at his disposal along with his own strength and power over darkness, hurt his friends and he'll hurt you.
However, being self-sacrificing still isn't easy and it still doesn't make things right exactly. He doesn't have much to loose in terms of himself, but when everything comes out to be alright with Sora and Kairi, it's Riku that shies away. No longer as proud as he once was, he is impeccably shameful at what he's done. For the better part of the second game, he hides from Sora, hiding his newly transformed face behind a hood and never speaking a word to the other boy. He couldn't bring himself to do so, thinking it woul;d be better to just masquerade around as Ansem and help from the shadows then face his friends and their worries over him. Things might be okay with his friends and they may be safe, but because of Riku's vast pride, he doesn't see his mistakes as being so easy to correct. People might forgive him, the worlds might be restored and safe, but Riku can not forgive himself for his actions, and that is another reason for his hiding and brings out a new fear for him. He may never forgive himself.
For all of his seriousness and the extremes in his personality though, Riku is actually still sort of a normal kid. A lot of the downtime pastimes spent as a kid was play fighting and races, something that now he probably wouldn't even think of doing without a little bit of prodding. But he still has a sense of humour, teasing Sora about his hidden feelings for Kairi and calling his friends things like lazy and hopeless. As he matured, his humour has become somewhat self-depreciating. He comments on how Sora never chose the best or smartest kinds of friends, and Donald takes that as an insult, when rather Riku has making a reference to himself. Despite his sobriety and solemnness, if someone was able to get Riku into the right mood and frame of mind, he'll likely relax a little.
There's no way for the old Riku to come back, with the crazy competitiveness, confidence and pride he once had. Too much has changed for him, but after hitting rock bottom, he can only hopefully improve with time and the right kind of prodding.

Keyblade - One important aspect of the series and it's staple. Although not an ability itself, not everyone can wield a Keyblade. In a way they are bonded to their masters, and if a wielder gives their Keyblade to someone who does not usually wield one, it will return to the original master. The only official way that a person can wield one freely is if an inheritance ceremony would be performed, where the chosen successor can successfully hold onto the Keyblade. The main requirement that is needed for someone to hold onto the Keyblade is that they have strong and powerful heart, although it can be inherited through an equally strong connection with a chosen already.
Despite not being a specific ability on its own, a user can gain a number of abilities while wielding a Keyblade. The main function of the weapon is that it can lock and unlock virtually anything, including large scale instances, such as barriers in between worlds, to small scaled items, like locked doors to a room. Other functions of the Keyblade include the ability to be an effective weapon against dark creatures called Heartless, although it can also act as a beacon to attract these dark creatures. It is also extraordinarily malleable, able to change form by simply changing the Keychain at the bottom of the hilt. These changes allow the Keyblade to take on different properties and powers, such as enhancing magical powers or physical strength, as well as a different form.
Finally, the Keyblade is not always carried around on the wielder’s person. Instead, it is summoned from some hamper space, usually with an effect that represents the user’s personality. Riku's current Keyblade is Way to the Dawn, and when summoned, appears in a plume of darkness.
Magic - Riku is by no means a magical powerhouse like Aqua or have access to almost every kind of magic like Sora. What he does have utilizes his darkness as a weapon. Later on in the game, he does have the ability to have a healing technique although it's not known or shown to have access to that ability in his current form.
Sensing - Many characters in the Kingdom Hearts universe have this ability. Although it's never really explained how it happens or what the feeling is like, the majority of Keybearers (people wielding Keyblades) can detect the amount of light or darkness in a particular character. For example, when Aqua met Kairi, she could tell that the other girl had a strong amount of light within her heart. Riku's sensing ability has developed in the form of an actual smell. Being so submersed in darkness allows him to detect it and actually use it as a way to identify people as well. He can tell the presence of a person or the strength of their heart if he is familiar with their scent.
In addition to his Darkness sensing and due to his own training and utilization of his Darkness, Riku can actually see through the dark as well! It's not perfect, but considering that he spent a whole game with a blindfold over his eyes and didn't trip on anything or walk into walls, it's something to be noted upon.
Swordsmanship - Not necessarily an ability per se, but Riku has had almost years of training with a sword, although his skills with real ones might be slightly lacking. Ever since Riku and Sora were young kids, they would normally spar with each other with wooden toy swords. This training has made Riku something of a natural swordsman, and his skill has only increased since obtaining a Keyblade. He is not professionally or properly trained though.
Corridors of Darkness - AKA 'Instant transportation for lazy, heartless people with no other form of transportation.'
...Or at least that's the mechanics of it in the game. Corridors of Darkness are a method used to travel to different worlds. However, using them isn't exactly easy or accessible to just anyone. They're spaces that one can summon in dark plumes and walking through them allows a person to go from point A to point B, the distance not effecting or notwithstanding it. However, not everyone can use these corridors or even summon them. Nobodies, persons without Hearts, can summon them with ease, as can Heartless and other beings born from Darkness. Riku has access and the ability to summon them thanks to Ansem's influence and by using the powerful darkness in his own heart.
Should a person with a heart or without a super strong affinity to either Light or Darkness enter one, it's highly likely that they won't survive the trip. Black Coats like the ones Riku and members of Organization XIII wear do offer some protection against the deterioration of the space though.
Invasion of the Heart & Body Snatcher - Not an ability by any means, but because of actions Riku took upon trying to subdue and capture Roxas, Riku is now permanently stuck in the form of his former possessor. He has full control of his body and his thought processes are all Riku's, but there's no known way to turn him back into his sixteen year old form.
Guardian - An original ability of Ansem's, Riku has only ever used it once before and that was when he first transformed into Ansem in order to know Roxas unconscious. The Guardian is a dark, almost symbiotic entity, but not considered to be a Heartless despite it's design similarities. It doesn't exist without a host, and usually that host can only be associated with Ansem or Xehanort (the big bad bald guy of the series). It's a protector and attacker, and can basically do whatever the host wills it to do. Riku has only ever used the Guardian once before, so he may not particularly like to use such a terrible thing or considers it to be a last ditch effort.
Items/Weapons: The clothes on this back (Black Coat, blindfold, and his normal 'Riku' clothes which would be underneath his coat should he return to his normal form) and Way to the Dawn Keyblade.
Sample Entry:
The samples below are of Riku from a different canon point. Should someone talk to him as Riku and not as Ansem (the man he'll be masquerading), he'll have this sort of tone and voice.
One - Two
Sample Entry Two:
It wasn't too often that Riku made his way to the Islands. The fear of being caught, the worry over what kind of state it was it. Riku's heart felt like solid lead whenever he would visit. It necessary in a way; with Sora off on his journey someone needed to try and keep a good eye on Kairi to ensure her safety. He never got close, never enough to say anything to her, and seeing her was a fleeting thing. It was mostly when she would walk home with Selphie from school. The girls would keep on the main paths, and Riku would merely observe from the shadows.
And that's all he's been doing. Keeping to the shadows in one world or another, keeping an eye on people and how they're fairing. Usually just a few steps ahead of Sora, sometimes spending days at a time in one place more than another. Here though, here at home, his visits never stayed long. Most times he'd just wait to see Kairi and then leave without a trace, before anyone else would see him or he'd see someone else. Today though, felt a little different. The girls had stayed longer at school than normal, causing Riku to shift around his position to other locations. It was almost sunset by the time the girls made their way, and seeing them unharmed and okay made him breath a silent sigh of relief. Looks like he didn't need to worry, not that things regularly attacked or happened on Destiny Islands.
Which really, is how things should be. With all the excitement over the past year, peace and quiet for any of them would be a blessing. Sora just had to come home and then both him and Kairi could be happy.
Duty done, Riku turns to the sky, admiring the colours of the sunset. It wouldn't a bad idea to stay a little longer, now would it? Whenever he's come, it's always been to the mainland, but now he feels a little curious about another landmark. Their play island, the place where everything happened and everything went wrong.
'The sunset looks just like that one. On that day...'
Opening a portal, Riku steps through the Corridor, surroundings instantly turning from close buildings to an open beach. This place... it looked exactly like ow it's supposed to be. The beach shack was still there, treehouse, everything, and seeing it all brought both a slight smile to his face and pain in his chest. It's just how it's supposed to be except for just a few things; Sora and Kairi namely.
Riku's stride is careful, calm and slow as he walks across the beach and toward the docks. No boats where waiting there, which meant he was completely alone. Another slight relief, he wouldn't want to be found here just as much as he wouldn't want to be found anywhere on this world, not like this. But it wouldn't hurt to maybe see that sunset once again, and hope that something better comes out of his efforts than last time.
