Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:

Background/History:The girl is the flame that shall ignite the world.

Personality:Well I want a puppy, but that doesn't mean I'm going to get one!
Elizabeth is a young woman who has lived her entire life isolated within a tower at the heart of Columbia. While trapped, she has lived a life devoid of human contact and with only the friendship (and protection) of a giant mechanical bird known as Songbird to keep her company over the years. Her only real knowledge of the world comes from the books that fills the library of her tower, what she could see from her windows and if she was lucky—the tears she could open into alternate worlds. Despite her continued wish for freedom and her ability to actually make that a reality, Elizabeth would always return back to her tower with the hope that she would be returning to the family she did not know. Nevertheless she would always return to disappointment and with only the Songbird to greet her, a friend she began to resent as her warden as the years progressed.

When Booker literally drops into her world, she greets him with suspicion (and thrown books) before wonderment overtakes her at the realization that he is a real, breathing human that she can reach out and touch. The first one she can truly remember meeting, and although her excitement is short lived as Songbird attacks, Elizabeth begins to realize the truth about her life. That it has been nothing short of an experiment and she has been seen simply as a specimen to be poke and prodded, not even referred by name. It leave her disgusted and more determined than ever to escape.

It is only when the pair escape the tower and Elizabeth is able to interact with the world that she had only seen from far away before. Like with Booker, she greets the world with an almost child-like innocence and enjoyment. She dances with other citizens, skips rocks, tries to pick up medicine balls, eats cotton candy and just generally tries to enjoy herself for the first time in her life. It is clear that the years of isolation did nothing to dampen her spirit or impulsiveness and she is able to demonstrate her intellect gained from all the literature she has read through quotes and trivia.

She is naturally curious about everything, unafraid to try new things and willing to learn if the situation should present itself. In her years locked away, she has become a proficient at picking locks along with code breaking and is almost amused sometimes by the locks and codes she deems too easy. Of course, despite her immense knowledge, Elizabeth does not have the life experience and in a way can be extremely naive and reckless about things. She never takes into consideration her value to the people of Columbia until Booker is forced to kill her would-be kidnappers, causing her to runaway from him until he is able to explain to her why he was forced to do that and why he will be forced to continue doing so until they can escape. It's clear she dislikes killing but as the pair continues their journey through Columbia, it's clear she begins to understand why it has to be this way even though it clearly weighs heavily on her.

Despite the frustrations and worry she faces, she remains brave in the face of danger and uses her keen eye and powers to help Booker through his fights. She is compassionate and is deeply hurt by the suffering she sees in Columbia and truly believes in the Vox Populi's cause (likening their struggle to Les Misérables) and very much believes in the need for equality among the citizens of Columbia. When she sees the nature of their revolution firsthand, she begins to deeply regret her actions in helping create a world where it was possible for them to gain weapons in the first place. In a way, it helps her mature but she has to do so in the face of things she never believed to be possible from high in her tower or lost in her books. It hurts her a lot but she knows she has to keep moving if she is ever to gain her escape from Columbia.

No doubt, her heart is big and can be almost selfless in her actions but Elizabeth is nevertheless capable of anger, hatred and killing. When she discovers Booker has been lying to her, she does not hesitate to knock him in the head with a wrench and flee his company and as she learns more about herself, she does begin to feel hate toward the people that kept her locked away and what they attempted to turn her into. Later on, in order to keep Daisy Fitzroy from killing a child, she stabs the resistance leader much to her horror. That horror is completely gone by the time Booker rescues her from Comstock house after months of torture, she ruthlessly opens a tear to the American Midwest being ravaged by a tornado and does not close it until the head doctors are pulled through. It is in this moment that she admits that she will not rest and will not leave Columbia until Comstock is dead, mostly for the things he did and will do but mostly because of the things he did to her in order to try and groom her.

Needless to say, the world she experiences leaves her bitter but her heart does not change, she still shows that same kindness and warmth underneath the burden she has begun to face.

All in all, Elizabeth is a young woman that is still learning. In ways she is still almost like a child but in many more, she is extremely wise beyond her years. She has a sense of humor, calling out Booker on more than one occasion and can butt heads with people from time to time. After all, she is opinionated and isn't afraid to speak her mind on things she believes to be wrong. Her determination is almost unfaltering and although she is still desperately learning to deal with the consequences of her actions, she is focused on her goals and doing what she wants for once. She is still learning to come to terms with the reality of the world she so lacked experience in but it has not changed her curious nature and willingness to learn even if her innocence has suffered for it. Elizabeth is understandably loyal though, and she is willing to help those in need if she can.

Abilities/Powers:Booker, are you afraid of God?
Elizabeth possess the power to open rips across dimensional time and space known as tears.

Described by her as a sort of "wish fulfillment", she is able to open these doors to alternate worlds filled by events and objects that do not exist in the current world she occupies. By manipulating them, she is able to exploit them and summon objects from these alternate worlds such as health, salt, weapons, ammunition and pieces of scenery that Booker is able to make use of in battle. Other examples include when she opens a tear inside an elevator, revealing an open window so she wouldn't have to kill a bee. Later on, when she running away from Booker, she makes use of these tears to slow him down by opening them to reveal a cascade of balloons and streamers, a marching band and even a train.

She can also use these tears to transport Booker and herself to alternate timelines and realities. Timelines where certain people have not died, or timelines where certain things have happened that seemed impossible to accomplish in another. At her current state, she is unable to take them back to the original world which makes going through the tears very risky. Perhaps the biggest drawback is the state of flux she can cause on people, the mind will immediately begin to try and make new memories where none exist in this new world and it causes terrible nosebleeds of them as they try to make sense of things. Even more traumatic are the people who have died in one world and are alive in another, it leads them to remembering two realities of being both alive and dead and being unable to separate them.

Although not definitely stated, she seems to have trouble opening and closing tears when in a panic. She also mentions that tears have a way of appearing when she is anxious.

Despite her powers being impressive by normal standards, this is only a small fraction of them. She mentions that as a child she was capabel of not only opening tears, but creating them too. As she grew up, she lost this power but not because she simply forgot but simply because she was unable to due to the siphon built within her tower leashing her powers. When the siphon is destroyed later in the game, her powers return and she becomes both omniscient and omnipotent; able to see all of the infinite timelines and capable of opening doors to them with utter ease.

While she is inside of Haven, following what was decided with the last time she was in the game, instead of tearing into alternate versions of Haven she will instead be capable of opening tears to the worlds of characters represented in the game with permission. Much like in Columbia, Elizabeth will also capable of bringing small items from these worlds but is very limited on how often she can do this and can only do so in battle.

Outside of this, she is also a very skilled at picking locks provided she has the lockpicks needed to do so. She is also a talented codebreaker, painter, singer, dancer and knows about a great deal of literature. She also has a grasp of medicine, partly in thanks to fighting across Columbia with Booker.

Sample Entry Two:
I... I guess it runs in the family.

By now, the blood has dried but she can still feel the warm stickiness of Daisy Fitzroy's blood slipping through her fingers and although she burned the clothes she wore on arrival... Elizabeth swears that the scent lingers even now. Even worse than this are the lingering thoughts of Songbird appearing to steal her away back to her time, back to Columbia and to her tower.

It never takes her long though, to settle down and realize that there was no way for Songbird to possibly appear in this city so far away from home. They are separated not only by time now but many worlds, she reminds herself, and wonders if Columbia even exists any more... had it even existed in the first place within this world? After all, alternate worlds was not a new though for her-ones where she drank coffee that morning instead of tea, ones where a window existed instead of a door and the ones where the dead were alive. In all her exploring and all the conversation she had with other occupants, never once had she come across a mention of the city of Columbia she had called her home. No mention of its appearance at the Worlds' Fair, no mention of its appearance at the Boxer Rebellion or its succession and no mention of the Prophet Zachary Comstock.

It's still a strange thought even though it has been weeks now since her arrival into Haven. A city much like but at the same time, completely different from Columbia. A city much harder, it seemed, to escape from as well. Elizabeth is not sure which she would rather prefer. Neither, she supposes and would prefer the beauty of Paris like she longed before but at least here there are no worries of fighting. At least, not the sort of fighting she was becoming used too...

No one here knew as the Lamb and she could live in relative ease and without the worry of someone appearing to try and capture her.

But there truly was no ease in being trapped her and she finds her fingers itching, wishing to rip open a tear to somewhere far away from here as well. Somewhere where she wasn't trapped in the sky, or in a faraway town full of monsters...

Somewhere where Booker was. It was sad almost, to still be thinking about it but she cannot help wishing that perhaps he would show up here as well and save her like he did before. Was that selfish of her? Undoubtedly but she still wishes and wishes for it to be true. A sight of the large billboard outside the apartment window catches her attention and she raises from her bed, carefully making her way over to touch the glass and gaze outwards into the murky world around her. It was still hard to believe and even now she worries that one day those monster in the subway will break in and they will truly die in this strange city, would they wake up back home then or... ?

Elizabeth shakes her head, turning on her feet and heading for the door. If sleep won't come, perhaps another round of exploration was in order. After all, all cities has their secrets and this one was no different.
