Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE
We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.
In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.
While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

MAYA FEY | Ace Attorney | Reserved (1/2)
Contact Info: misquared @ plurk
Other Characters Played: Ringo Oginome (
Preferred Apartment: None!
Character Name: Maya Fey
Canon: Ace Attorney
Canon Point: The end of Trials and Tribulations case 5 (Bridge to Turnabout)
Background/History: Link to Maya's History at the Ace Attorney wiki
Personality: Maya can be described in one word, strange. She is energetic (maybe too much so), bright, excitable, and a complete kid at heart. She goes about everything she does with boundless enthusiasm, and attempts to get her nose into everyone’s business. She runs purely on instinct, and it’s clear to see that she doesn't really think about her actions before she acts on them. She is easily distracted, jumps to conclusions, and has a tendency to blurt out the first thing that comes to mind. For example, if she sees something interesting? She’s not going to think it through, and weight whether or not it belongs to someone, or it might be expensive, she picks it up and starts playing with it. Her grasp on ownership laws are “loose” to say the least, and it’s not uncommon for her to rifle through other’s belongings with the justification of “I was just borrowing it!”
This carelessness can be a blessing, and a curse. It means that she can get herself into trouble, and she tends to stumble into a lot of messes. Because she’s not always careful she sticks her nose where it doesn't belong, and she gets into sticky situations. On the other hand, because she is so inquisitive and willing to explore, she discovers things that no one else could. A great example is in the first game when Phoenix and Maya discover a camera mounted with a microphone. Not thinking of the consequences, Maya made a loud noise to activate the camera, and ended up wasting an entire roll of film. While she incurred the wrath of the person who owned the film and stuck Phoenix with having to pay for her mistakes, the fact that the camera detected loud “bang” noises later became a crucial piece of information.
This excitement is one of her most endearing qualities. She often seems younger than she really is because she goes about everything with such child-like enthusiasm. She looks at everyday things and imagines them as something greater. For example, there's a moment in the game where she and Phoenix see a large heater buried in the snow. She comment that it looks kind of like a giant robot, but Nick quickly points out that it's just a heater. Despite his retort, Maya begins to imagine what it would be like if the heater sprang up from the snow, and jokes with Phoneix that he should fight the heater robot. It's nearly impossible to not get pulled along into her flights of fancy, and she has the ability to point out the cool things in this world that are so easy to miss. Life is fun when you're Maya Fey, and she is determined to share that fun with you (whether you like it or not!).
Despite the fact that she can be careless, Maya has a big heart and cares deeply for those around her. Once you are Maya’s friend, she is fiercely loyal to you, and will give everything that she’s got to help you. When she sees someone in need, she has a hard time turning a blind eye to their pain, and she will throw herself into whatever she needs to do to help them. That does not mean that she is some saint who is kind to everyone. She is quick to pass "judgement" and has been known to call people weird or scary or... well, a whole host of names. But what makes Maya special is that she will stick around long enough to change her opinion. She will tease people (to their face if she know them well, or under her breath to her friends if she just met them) relentlessly for their silly quirks, and then she will turn around and do something really kind for them. That's just the kind of person Maya is.
Strangely, even though Maya will always dive head first into caring about other people she's not always so quick to defend herself. Maya can display certain martyr tendencies, and she often (actually... most of the time) puts the needs of others before her own. This might seem to contradict her childish and silly tendencies-- most of the time in Ace Attorney Phoenix is complaining that he's broke because Maya keeps asking him to buy her food. But Maya is much more perceptive than others give her credit. She's empathetic, and she always wants to make the people that she loves happy. This means that while she is a genuinely silly girl, sometimes she will be silly in an attempt to make other people laugh, or to bring some joy into their life. And, in contrast to that? Maya will do things like put herself in harms way if it means securing evidence that is vital to a case, or she lie to a court of law so that she can protect a criminal who had good intentions. These actions put her in danger, but she doesn't care if she is helping people that she cares about.
And, it's also because Maya has some self-worth issues. Her father died when she was a little girl, and her mother abandoned both Maya and her older sister Mia when she came under fire due to a controversial court case. Maya was then essentially raised by her older sister, and her Aunt Morgan. Morgan was the younger sister of Maya's mother, and she was incredibly jealous of her sister and Maya's status as Master-To-Be. She believed that Maya was foolish, a failure of a spirit medium, and that her daughter Pearl was the rightful heir to the Kurain Family Channeling Technique. This means that Maya grew up raised by a woman who despised her, and this same woman later attempt to orchestrate Maya's murder. While Morgan would outwardly act as if she respected Maya, it is implied that she would subtly put down her niece, and she sewed seeds of self-doubt in Maya that plague her to this day. In the very first game, Maya shows crippling self-doubt issues, and when she is unable to help Nick in any clear way, she goes so far as to wish that she was permanently unconscious. Maya has grown a lot since then, and she has started to believe in herself not only as a spirit medium, but as a person... Still, childhood issues do not vanish overnight, and it is likely that deep down inside, Maya is still very critical of herself. If she cannot contribute to the happiness of her friends? She might start to loose faith in herself.
But she has no reason to, Maya is a truly amazing young woman. She has gone through emotional trauma that would break a weaker person, and yet she's come out stronger than ever. She is fun, excitable, childish yet mature, stubborn, and optimistic to the end. Someday she will grow up to be a fine leader of a village that has been wrecked with political turmoil, but for now she will keep doing her best as a legal assistant who puts her all into helping one person at a time.
MAYA FEY | Ace Attorney | Reserved (2/2)
One limitation of the technique is that two people may not simultaneously channel the same spirit. However, one medium can "steal" a spirit from a less powerful medium, as well as prevent a less powerful medium from channeling a spirit by channeling it herself. A spirit medium can also only channel spirits if they are sufficiently "trained". It seems that medium training has a lot to do with concentrating and honing one's ability to focus. I the medium has neglected her training, she cannot summon any spirits. Maya runs into this problem in the first game, and she is unable to summon the spirit of her sister. However, by the third game, Maya is able to easily summon her sister's spirit. So, as long as she continues to pursue her training, she should not run into this problem.
Items/Weapons: Her spirit medium clothes, her magatama, a card that she doodled on
Sample Entry: E-Emergency! Emergency! Maya Fey here, reporting a class A problem! [the video feed comes up, and everyone is treated to a close up view of this young lady's face]
I just got here a few days ago, and I discovered a horrifying fact! Heck, I can't believe this isn't in the Haven welcome manual! Well... you know, the verbal welcome manual. Welcome speech? Yeah, that's more appropriate.
A-Anyway, I found out that there are no hamburgers here! [this is obviously T-R-A-G-I-C stuff that needs to be addressed immediately] I think it's high time that we organize some sort of potluck! I know all the good ingredients are up in, uh... Haven North. But still! There's gotta be something that we can do while the tunnels are caved in like this! Come on team, it's time to rally together for the American Dream! Who's with me?
Sample Entry Two: As she flips the video feature off, Maya raises her arms over her head and stretches. Well... that wasn't a complete failure, right? At least some people would come, and if everyone could eat together maybe they could take their minds off the worries that surround them. But, it wouldn't solve the problem. A small sight escapes her lips and her shoulders slump. This is all she can do, isn't it? Little things here and there to boost morale, but she can't really fight, can she?
She still couldn't quite believe that this place was real. Evil scientists, superheroes... it's all like something out of a comic book. And here she was, a spirit medium slash legal assistant in the middle of it all. What could she possibly do in a place like this.
No! No, no, no, that was no way to think. What would Sis do in a situation like this? She would keep learning and investigating until she found some ultra secret thing that overturned Yao and his whole group! What would Nick do? He would never give up, no matter what. Just thinking about them brought a smile to her face, and she raised her hands and patted her cheeks. "You can do this, Maya" she whispers. Just take everything one step at a time and then she'll be able to pull off a turnabout of her own!
A smile was already spreading over her face. Yeah... everything was going to be okay.
