We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

when artificial life forms are created, when things are added to them, something is usually changed or removed. sometimes, in order not to create something better than normal people, artificial limits are intentionally created. - heine

We don't know much about Nill's past, she first appears in the series trying to escape from a pimp. She'd been a recent acquisition and was considered quiet valuable, people would pay good money to have fun with an artificial life form like her. Bishop and a few others in the series mention how she's a rare type and thus far we haven't seen any other like her. Nill has two angel like wings on her back, small little things that are purely for show. They, coupled with her blonde hair and slight frame, made her an easy target for the desires of others. Had Heine not helped her, her future most certainly was going to be one in prostitution.

DOGS takes place in a dystopian future of Europe, the glorious Golden Age of humanity fading away to leave the world scarred and ruined. The world now is one where horrible crimes are the norm and most people would rather just hurry past the blood and violence, ignoring it instead of trying to stop it. In this world there are beings that can be artificially created or genetically altered, both come hand in hand and both are treated as the lowest rung on the ladder called life. They are considered 'children of the past age' or 'orphans' in some cases. What is known for sure is that they are often put into prostitution or other equally as unsavory occupations and treated worse than cattle, even by the corrupt justice system.

Nill as described above, is one of these children. She's a fourteen year old girl with bright eyes and an even brighter smile. It would seem surprising to some that given the treatment she's received from others that she isn't apathetic to others. To many she's seen as an object or a piece of meat to devour. Still she is surprisingly caring.

When Heine finds out she's mute he shows some amount of weakness to her because they're similar; both having been altered with against their will. While she does not know anything about him, she comes forward to try and comfort him. He pushes her away for his own reasons but she still wanted to help. Despite the violence he'd easily committed in front of her there were a few very simple facts that stood out to her. He had saved her, and he was obviously hurting in some way, if she could help she wanted to try.

While she is mute, it's stated that her voice was taken to make sure she wasn't better than a human, Nill is a very expressive character. Her expression is open, answering questions with shakes of her head or twitches of her wings. Even without a voice, she's able to show emotions easily. Like how her wings stand out straight when she's mad. We get to see this just after she's been recaptured and a pimp is taunting her because she can't cry out no matter how much he hits her.

At first she's shy, hunching and cowering in a corner after Heine saved her. We quickly find out though that she's not timid. She fights to get away from her captors every time, running with all her might to escape them. She can be a fighter, even considered a survivor in her own right. She's also very observant. In some ways Nill might even be slightly a bit empathic with how she almost always knows when something is wrong with someone, even if they're smiling or acting normally. Given that, she's also a lot sharper than most would give her credit. She notices things faster, people in a room; she even shivers at one of the characters aura long before anyone else even notices him.

Due to her silence and her happy personality, some would write her off as naive or maybe even dense. Little things scare her and her own small failures seem like end of the world situations, but that isn't all she is. Because she's so observant, she notices things about people faster. Like the fact Naoto is upset and needs a smile. Without a voice to clog everything up, she's able to watch people and take notice of their emotions and the slight variations in them.

She’s also very caring, staying up next to Naoto as she slept and desperately wanting to be useful. Even the twins Noki and Luki, she plays with them happily and makes fast friends with almost everyone that meets her.

Heine is perhaps her most important relationship in the series, despite his own apparent hate for himself and the amount of violence she's seen him commit; she still cares for him deeply. To Nill he's not a villain or even a monster like he thinks, he's someone precious. She's one of the few women he can stand touching him. He is seen holding her hand while she skips from pew to pew. To her, he's like a knight or perhaps even family. She'll run and hide behind him when Bishop dresses her in lolita dresses and extols how he wants to hug her. He's safety to her. They have a very sweet relationship; he comes to visit her often talking to her about his past as she listens and tries to offer comfort when she can. When Heine is upset, it devastates her, her usually content expression twisting in sadness.

In a way she owes him her life, and wants the best for him because of this. She's protective of him and won't stand others insulting or speaking badly about him.

While Heine could be considered the most important relationship, she doesn't just stick to him. She’s kind to Badou and silently laughs when he gets upset. She feels safe enough with him that when he tells her to come out from under a table after an explosion in the town, she does so despite still being scared. When it comes to Naoto, there's only a slight moment of pause before she trusts her. This is largely due to the fact that Naoto saved her from men who had come to the church to use her as bait or a bargaining chip against Heine. When Naoto meets Magato again, she rushes to give her her sword, never mind the dangerous situation or that just moments before she'd been scared nearly stiff by the guy.

While she's not an important member of the team, Nill does her best for them. She tries to learn to sew and listens to their problems. When they come back to the church one time and she notices Naoto is missing a button she grabs her to fix her coat for her. She's horrible at it though, but she still tries. All the effort though is mostly because Heine has so many clothes always filled with bullet holes.

She becomes friendly with the other altered people in the city, specifically Ms. Liza and the 'demi-humans' that live with her. There might even be a budding romance between her and Yora, a boy who lives with Ms Liza and who stands up for her often. Saying he doesn't want to see her cry so he's willing to go against Ms. Liza who takes care of most of the demi-humans in the city. They help protect her during the attack on the city and Ms. Liza hand makes dresses for Nill to wear.

While she doesn't necessarily trust everyone, she is quick to make friends and easily looks past your mistakes. In total, Nill is an open soul; she doesn't focus on the packaging and instead sees what’s inside. She is a caring, strong individual who can survive unspeakable treatment and still manage to keep a happy smile.

Abilities/Powers:

Nill isn't one of the more powerful characters, in fact she's not really that powerful at all. There is one thing she's known for and that is she can run. She's a fast, slight little thing that will slip under peoples grasp and can out run most people. She has fairly good balance and can dodge under a person if she tries.

When it comes to her wings they are not functional in the least, they're there just to look pretty.

[A young girl appears on the screen, the picture keeps shifting as she's looking at the phone while broadcasting. Shifting it to and fro like she's never seen one before.

When the image finally settles you can see blonde hair that falls past her shoulders and a pair of sea green eyes that peer curiously at the picture before she smiles brightly.

She's completely silent, not saying a single word but she does show the room around her, one of the apartment rooms before flipping back to her face, one hand going out to mime curiosity. Perhaps the most curious part though is the pair of tiny angel wings that twitch behind her.

Sample Entry Two:

The alarm clock had startled her, sending her from the small bed and quickly onto the floor with a pillow over her head to hide from the sound. Loud sounds had began to shock her after all the explosions. She was always waiting for the church to fall down around her with the next big resounding BOOM.

There's no rubble though, and it's as she's crouched on the floor that she realizes quickly she's not where she should be. This isn't her room, that isn't her bed, and she's not in the right clothes for sleeping anyway.

One of Ms Liza's pretty outfits fits snugly to her frame, light lace and some silk to make the sweater and skirt combo both precious and pretty. Or so she was told.

Rubbing at her head, she tries to remember where she'd been. Yora, she'd been hiding behind him because Bishop had woken up and not been right. Naoto was there and they were going to leave for the underground. Hopefully they were going to help Heine and Badou- but if she'd been hiding behind Yora... how did she end up here?

Slowly she peeks from behind the bed, looking around the room and counting unoccupied beds with her finger as she does this. One. Two- Six people could sleep in this room with her, but who?

Gulping, Nill stands and makes her way to the barred window all the while wondering. Where is she and how did she manage to end up here? Her wings twitch out behind her, a frown on her face as she glances at the large sign and the ruined city around her.

O-oh no. How was she going to get out of this?
