Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

2/3 Akane Owari | Super Dangan Ronpa 2 | Reserved | SPOILERS ARE IN THIS APPLICATION.

[personal profile] overeats 2014-03-10 08:52 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Three ways to describe Akane Owari: energetic, brash, and short on attention unless it's food or fighting.

Act first, think later maybe. Several times it's shown that Owari has a brash nature, and a violent streak. Her problem solving techniques amount to believing that her hitting things will make them better. (Or strangling them until their neck breaks, in the case of dealing with a fellow classmate that had claimed to have placed bombs around the island / had been a huge crazy doucebag.) She is a very confident girl, to the point of idoicy in some cases-- such as constantly challenging Nidai despite the fact that their spars ended with her bloodied on several occasions, and challenging the omnipotent Monobear (which nearly got a friend killed when they stepped in to save Owari's dumb ass).

Rather than just having berserk buttons, Owari is a natural berserker ready to attack at just about any moment. Owari is not necessarily an angry person overall, but she has a fearsome temper when she's pissed. It does take at least some effort to piss her off, but then she goes into power mode (or psycho villain mode?) which is... well, she can still be talked down from that, so it's not as bad as it could be. Point is, she's not someone willing to put up with complete bullshit / people screwing with her / her friends' lives. Despite this, Owari does have her own weaknesses as well. One thing she doesn't seem capable of punching out is her fear of ghosts, which she discloses to Hinata during an FTE (although she admittedly then threatens to punch him if he ever tells anyone about it). It's a surprising admission from her, and was a huge sign of trust, since Owari never seemed to like showing weaknesses if possible.

A fighter by nature, an over-confident girl, Owari is incredibly competitive and possesses a drive to improve herself. She enjoys a good challenge, and is very boastful about beating any she comes across. While she does throw herself at such things without thinking, she does make an effort to improve herself. Moreover, Owari hates to show weakness or be weak at all. When blaming herself for Nidai being injured, she blames herself because she was "weak" and says that if she weren't maybe it wouldn't have happened. However, while she hates weakness in herself / accepting the help of others, Owari is willing to stand up for / help others with no qualms (such as chastising Hinata for making Tsumiki cry in one of the trials, or when she says she'll take over Nidai's share of the work after his death). Despite possessing a drive to improve herself, Owari hates hard work, and frequently skipped out on her gymnastics training during her school days, apparently. It was only with Nidai's influence that she began to overcome this, and she seemed to almost leave that part of herself behind to an extent after his death, continuing her training to become stronger even without his nagging.

Owari is never the smartest among her classmates, and clearly aware of it, leaving the metaphorical heavy lifting to her peers for the most part. And while most of her contributions in trials weren't super intelligent, Owari has fantastic instincts. For what she lacks in smarts, she makes up for in a tendency to find herself at answers without really trying. Unfortunately, she sometimes doubt these instincts due to a low belief in her brainpower (which may explain why she doesn't even bother to apply herself to academic pursuits, though that is likely laziness). Her title apparently came from her ability to practice gymnastics by creating innovative new moves, since Owari - hating hard work - always simply showed up at meets and made up routines on the spot. This, too, shows her general inclination to go with whatever comes to mind. While this does get better through influence from her classmates, her instincts and intuition really are fairly reliable, and notably her classmates do start taking them into account later as time goes on. Kuzuryuu in particular seems to rethink his estimation of the fifth case when Owari seems uncertain about it.

One of the more optimistic members of her class, or at least one of the ones more able to put each death behind her and continue on "doing her best". In general, Owari has a bit of an emotional whiplash on occasion. This is likely caused by the fact that emotionally, she is not deep. Or at least she doesn't act like it. Her emotions tend to range from "can I punch it", "I'M GONNA PUNCH IT", and "well whatever" on a general basis. She herself doesn't seem aware that she can really feel things, as she is confused by her upset when classmate Nidai is hurt saving her life and later murdered. She doesn't seem to even understand her own emotions when they're shoved in her face by another classmate. It's possible that this lack in emotional depth is caused by Owari's rather... crappy childhood, which included a roulette wheel of parents, poverty (she states that the crappy rooms at an inn-like house were a "palace" compared to her home, as well as her clear enjoyment of food out of fear of not having any), taking up gymnastics to avoid having to be a waitress or worse as she mentions taking off her underwear for old men, and taking care of a multitude of younger siblings that had no stable parenting. When first arriving on the island she doesn't really bother to learn peoples' names for a while, saying she's "bad with names", and this is probably because of her messy childhood-- she doesn't really expect to be around these classmates of hers long enough to care, likely because she was desensitized to death.

"Flirt" is the wrong word, but Owari can be rather... inappropriate at times, to say the least. Due to her childhood, it appears no one actually showed her to how to behave properly. She doesn't seem to have the greatest grasp on societal norms for appropriateness, including; claiming a school swimsuit is "embarrassing" but then proceeds to start stripping off her clothes, makes several mentions of boys' "tails" as a euphemism for penises, offers to tell Hinata touch / use her breasts as pillows, etc. She's not really coming on to anyone, or even propositioning them so much as... actually believes "you can touch my boobs" is a reasonable response to when she's pleased with a guy / something that they would want. Which, again, says some pretty awful shit about her home life.

Despite Owari's willfulness and ability to push past her own problems (and everyone else's), she was at one point capable of falling into Despair. It's not hard to figure out the most likely reason she was drawn into the despair-- a crappy home-life combined with her Super High School Level talent only being from something she had zero passion for. While it's unknown what she specifically did or was like under despair, context paints a disturbing picture (as it does with all of those who were under despair). Learning about this part of her past was not a fun time, but like the other survivors of Monokuma's second killing game, she is able to accept what the future could bring and work toward a better one. (And is also prepared to beat the shit out of classmate Hinata if he seems stupid/despair-y, so.)
