We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

Flat | Top-Level Comments Only

Abilities/Powers: While there is no definitive list of magical abilities that Calypso possesses (it is simply stated anywhere that I have found that Calypso is a minor goddess and that her power is 'magic') Calypso is a minor goddess, so it's really safe to assume that she has all of the abilities that a minor goddess would possess. For the purposes of this app however, I will only use those that have been specifically or subtly displayed in the Percy Jackson books.

• Magic
◦ Mental manipulation - Calypso can subtly manipulate the thoughts of others. Much like a siren or Aphrodite's gift of charmspeak she can cause people to suddenly want or need to do something simply by suggesting it.
▪ She uses this on occasion while Percy is on her island (She tells him that he is tired and suddenly he realizes that he is or she says that he seems as if he can’t keep his eyes open and suddenly he feels that way). It is also hinted in the Odyssey that she may have attempted to use this on Odysseus as well.
◦ Singing – Calypso can use her singing like a spell and cause things to happen with just her singing.
▪ This is demonstrated when Leo creates his seeing device and it doesn't work upon activation. Calypso suggests that he try a spell (specifically she says a musical invocation). When Leo mocks her suggestion she begins to sing. After her song is finished the mirror begins to work.
◦ Age (immortality/age manipulation) – It would seem that Calypso can be any age that she wants. Due to her nature as a goddess she is immortal however as well as because of the magic of her island.
◦ Magic servants – It is unclear of these are wind spirits or if it is her own abilities, but she seems to have the ability to manipulate things to work for her. For example the house on her island has all the chores doing themselves.
◦ Magical weaving – Calypso has a loom which she uses to make clothing on. She uses magic with her loom to create things such as non-flammable clothing and such.
◦ Foresight and hindsight – Calypso mentions that seeing the past and future is 'simple magic' implying that she can do both.

• Non-magic
◦ Calypso is an amazing gardener. On her island she has an orchard and a beautiful garden... Both Leo and Percy comment on how beautiful it is. She tends to her garden by herself, so it is clear that she knows how to take care of plants without magic.

Items/Weapons: She will be bringing with her a plain white t-shirt, blue jeans and sneakers.

Sample Entry: [Devices like this are new to Calypso. She understands scrying devices and devices meant to see the future or the past. That’s simple magic; but something like this is new and confusing. When the video function turns on she has no idea that it has. Instead of speaking she continues to turn the thing around in her hands and press random buttons. This causes the device to turn on and off several times. After a few moments the device shows a confused looking set of almond eyes framed by caramel colored hair. The eyes move closer.]

Sample Entry Two: As the morning sunlight streamed in, Calypso’s head slowly rolled on the over soft mattress. She continued to try not to think about Leo and the promise she refused to allow him to make. He needed his best chance to leave Ogygia, he needed to help his friends defeat her grandmother. The world needed him. Slowly she allowed herself to open her eyes, the world coming into a hazy view before she blinked back the tear crust and started to take in the distinctly different room. She rubbed her eyes and pushed herself off the mattress, looking around with confusion and concern. This wasn’t her home.

She pulled herself the rest of the way off the bed and examined the room. This house couldn’t be anywhere on Ogygia; she’d only seen this sort of house when she was looking into the past or future. Had Zeus sent her away while she was sleeping? Had her grandmother? She wasn’t sure if her grandmother had enough power to do something like that yet. Unless perhaps Leo and his friends had failed … No, her Gaia wasn’t that forgiving. If she were awake she would have crushed Calypso for standing against her. This meant that there was another who had done this; someone who could counter the will of the Gods.

Carefully she made her way to the door and turned the knob.
