Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

Personality:
As the key to paradise, Kiba is very driven. Driven by an unseen force to press on, even though his end purpose isn't set in stone. His main theme is 'instinct', the ability to trust oneself , following the 'nose of the mind' and thinking with his heart above anything else, including logic.

Kiba naturally falls into place as leader as the original seeker of Paradise. A small pack automatically forms around him. He's reserved, yet possessed just enough charisma that has the others looking to him for direction and advice. Even Hige tells him, "You're always talking like you've got an answer for just about everything" -- which Kiba denies. He chiefly relies on instinct over experienced knowledge. He never tries to assert himself into any position, though, especially not one of leadership. He explicitly states their pack isn't like that, leaving room for the others to choose how they'd like to live and whether they'd like to partake on the expedition to find paradise. Not to say he's indifferent or unappreciative of the other wolves, but he respects them enough to let them choose their own paths. He's fiercely loyal to the concept of caninity as a whole, the ones who've gathered around him and the certainty of his end goal which only contributes to his image of 'leader', despite the downplaying.

Kiba doesn't often explain his actions, much to the frustration of his comrades. The good news is that he has a one-track mind: Paradise. Just about everything he does, he does for the sake of Paradise and reaching it. It doesn't matter how often others laugh at him for that objective. Even when he's told it's impossible, it's like that word bears no meaning to him. In the battle of logic vs instinct, instinct wins every time.

He's very prideful in what he is, but because wolves are thought to be both very extinct (as of 200 years ago, to be exact) and very dangerous, it's initially difficult for him to navigate around humans and see his predetermined expectations through to their end. Because of the dangers of being himself -- a wolf, he's equipped with an innate ability to disguise himself as a human. An ability he sees as distasteful -- shameful, really. Kiba isn't very fond of humans and deems other wolves who disguise themselves accordingly as honorless. He eventually comes to the realization (thanks to a chance meeting with another amicable wolf) that such 'underhanded' tactics are necessary for survival: "But having pride doesn't count for much if you're dead, you know?" So he isn't quite as pigheaded as first impressions may have inferred.

Kiba may come off as aloof, distant or even cold. His main problem here is not having much to say -- he's a wolf with few words, and his disposition may make it difficult to gauge what he's thinking. He speaks when necessary and as he spends more time with his pack, he becomes more cordial, more likely to add his two cents here and there. He's typically calm, but he's also known for having a bit of a temper -- only when provoked. As time goes on, he does become very defensive over Cheza, the Lunar Flower 'personified', whom he utterly devoted himself to before she even spoke a word. He grows protective of his pack, which places him in peril quite often, but he tends to hold Cheza up on a pedestal. That being said, he'll risk his life for just about anyone he gets close to, if the circumstances call for it. He's not outright suicidal, but he's no coward either.

After primary contact, it's easy for Kiba to understand how someone operates. Even if he butts heads with them, or they share differing opinions, he's able to accept and appreciate their viewpoint for the most part. This is prominent when he meets Tsume, whom he butts heads with. Hige suggests they abandon him, and Kiba's reluctant to. He understands the way Tsume behaves and why he does even if they've largely disagreed with one another to the point of inciting pack-wide drama. Furthermore, while others were wary and unsure of Cheza, Kiba held her and walked alongside her even as they were pursued, though he knew very little about her outside of her purpose. He's patient, caring and trusting when it comes to his pack, but antagonists beware: he'll flip on a dime if his kin are threatened.
It'll always take him an extra second to trust humans, though. He's very wary of them, as his family was slaughtered by them when they decided to burn their forest down. Though raised by a shaman Indian, he isn't overly fond of people.

He's got a keen eye for detail, both with mentality and physicality. He's able to determine sprains and wellness-related issues and when he sees something wrong, he has to interfere in some way. This is far-reaching, straight through his personal beliefs. When he sees a bunch of wolves being forced to pull train parts he tries to interfere, outraged by what he sees as a slight against his kind/abuse, though the wolves involved don't seem to mind. He's more compassionate than even he himself realizes, as wolves are typically supposed to care for their pack and exclusively for their pack. Whether his help is wanted or not, if he identify's something as 'wrong' -- if he notices anything that violates his moral code, he'll be sure to butt in.

 Abilities/Powers:
In Wolf's Rain, each wolf comes with the ability to disguise themselves as a human. Some people carry over certain physical or material attributes -- like the scar on Tsume's chest, or the ring of bracelets Toboe has on his wrist. As a human, their wolf-like qualities are still present, like Hige's super-smelling ability for example.
It takes a certain amount of concentration to maintain their forms, and some people may be able to see through the illusion, but not entirely. It'd be like one of those things where you think you've seen something from the corner of your eye, you blink and there's nothing/everything's as it were.

Additionally, the wolves are gifted with advanced senses and skills -- Kiba can practically do parkour. They can run great distances without tiring out, sprint up almost completely vertical walls, jump great distances, twist and bend steel, they're extremely resilient overall. Kiba was shot at and blasted with several lasers (separate occasions) but remained standing in each instance.

He can also understand other animals when they talk amongst themselves, such as cats or birds. They don't have to share a breed/species.

Items/Weapons: Nothing.

Sample Entry: 1, 2.
Sample Entry Two:
Kiba doesn't mind the appearance of Haven West. He's visited and lived in poverty-stricken areas before and honestly, he's a wolf with no true opinion on architecture or the state of human habitat. Moreover, he was raised by shaman Indians. It's the least of his concerns.

The fact that he woke up in a place is what has him concerned. The fact that he woke up in an unfamiliar place with absolutely no recollection of how it happened or where this place is, in relation to everything he does know. Typically, what drives him is the scent of Lunar Flowers -- a Lunar Flower. Something must have driven him here -- to wake up here and to be prevented from leaving, but what it was and continues to be, he can't put his allegorical finger on it. His housing block had been explored, as well as the general area surrounding their little reservoir, the billboard even caught his eye, but he woke up feeling awfully groggy and drained. Basking in the moonlight has always been a remedy of sorts for that, but this is more pressing...given the uncertainty of his circumstances, refueling and further investigating is imperative.

And so, somewhere between the housing blocks, he managed to catch himself a rare delicacy (unbeknownst to him, these things have always been common among his travels) -- a rat. A highly preferred meal over rice pudding and odorless, dried pasta. Even better than hot dogs, if one were to ask. He devours everything except the tail in record timing, but the fatigue remains. Perhaps he's eaten it too quickly?  If he weren't so intuitive, an excuse like that would be acceptable. Sadly, for Kiba, this place reeks of bad news. The last time he felt so pessimistic was in the presence of Darcia. At least he's prepared.
