In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.
While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

From the beginning, through all his hardships, Jude really is probably the nicest and kindest guy one would meet. He used to just go with the flow, and did whatever anyone else wanted to, and was a guy with a good heart through and through. To the point he had been given the title of a ‘Do-Gooder’ because he wants to help others, which is likely why he had chosen to move from the small town Leronde to the big city of Fennmont to pursue becoming a doctor.
Jude is a rather calm and composed boy for his age and is very observant to his surroundings with the ability to think fast when needed. He’s able to find small details that his party can use to their advantage in a tight situation, where others might not notice it themselves. As the game unfolds, it’s clear that Jude has great dedication to he does, and holds great adoration for Milla who came into his life so unexpectedly and had such a huge impact on him in what she teaches him in their travels together. Without her, he would never have learned to follow his own path and make his own decisions; to become his own man, so to speak.
As it stands overall though, he is a very smart and honest young man and isn’t the kind of person who would lie about his motives or what he’s wishing to do. However, despite being very book smart, he’s a little slow on the intake when it comes to real-time situations and has been unsuspectingly pulled into situations without thinking and ending up embarrassing himself. Another thing to note is that he’s reasonable and tries to find a solution that would work for everyone in a situation; coming up with a compromise if anything else. His mindset definitely follows the set of an honors student, and he sternly follows a very specific principle which is continually quoted throughout the game itself.

Being an honors student, he references this a lot during situations and knows that with this principle by Professor Howe, it was him that helped create the use of the spirit artes everyone in Rieze Maxia uses today. Trust me. It is something he will easily recall to anyone if it’s ever brought up. Being booksmart will do that to a person. Yet being such a soft-hearted person, he was bullied as a kid and never let it get him down, getting back up and continuing onward, but it won’t stop him from calling out flaws with something if the situation calls for it. Catching contradictory things or pointing out just what isn’t right, yet sometimes acting a little naïve without even thinking twice about it.
Jude’s far from a regular kid who has a happy family though, as him and his father really don’t see eye to eye on things and they don’t really get much family time outside of work. His father treated him like a child and it took getting away from Leronde, attending Medical School in Fennmont that helped with that, but by doing this, it started a cycle where he was simply being a do-gooder and just pleasing others until he had met Milla which, again, is why she’s so influential in his life. Though the one thing that doesn’t change is that he’s still amazingly good at reading people, as that’s a good trait to have for a doctor, and it’s perhaps of this and his knowledge of things that makes it so he’s not really surprised by the type of people that live in the world, though not having experienced meeting them in person himself could change it.
He tends to also act a bit older for his age, and seems to know how to act in front of others when the right situation calls for it, though he’s very much aware of it. This ‘Do-Gooder’ nature of his is pretty much what he almost seems to consider a weakness but can’t really stop from doing these ‘do-gooder’ kinds of things because that’s just who he is. An example would be in how he can’t turn a blind eye to people in distress, which is how it came to that he essentially ‘kidnapped’ Elize from her ‘prison’ in Hamil and got Milla to agree to have Elize join them. He truly believes it was going to help in the long run, and she would be happier away from this horrible place she was left in, taking it seriously as part of his mission.

That being something which also becomes obvious when tied back with his ability to communicate with others as it has lead to some odd, but hilarious situations. Like being able to admit when a woman is pretty, though others would assume it meant he liked them despite speaking objectively about it. There’s times with that when one questions how much he knows as he understands when bondage is mentioned and knowing what a ‘catcher’ is, but then being completely oblivious to other things like ‘bazongas’ and the deeper meaning behind direct tethering with a spirit, once more showing his naivete despite the otherwise mature person he presents himself as in game.
If you consider his relationships with those around him, they’re also very vital keys in seeing just what kind of person Jude is. Like how he is a different person around Rowen, Milla, Alvin and Elize, and then another when it comes to his childhood friend Leia. With her, a different side of him is visible as they’ve grown up together and know the things the others won’t, and he’ll show her these aspects because he feels comfortable around her to not put up that do-gooder act because he knows he doesn’t have to please her. He’s sarcastic, but is also acts a lot like a brother to her, which is why when he seems to make almost insensitive jabs at her; not to be rude, but because he knows she’s strong and can take it. He’s more honest around her than he is with everyone else, yet it’s so obvious throughout the game that he doesn’t see her feelings for him and hurts her unintentionally without thinking. As things proceed in game, one sees also just how Jude knows how to handle Leia and all of her energy, even being concerned about her well-being as he knows how she was sick as a child. He could be seen as cold in attitude when he regards her, but it’s just how well he knows and understands Leia that there’s no need to hold back.
Where it comes to his family, there’s a lot that could be said, but the obvious one is, as stated earlier, how he and his father don’t really see eye to eye, wanting him to accept who he is and rebelling against him a few times in game and getting himself slapped for it one time. Yet it’s through his time interacting with his father that he learns to take responsibility for what he’s started and gotten himself into, and has become bolder to talk back to his father when he couldn’t before.
Milla however, happens to be the most influential person of them all, as she did force him to end up changing how he saw and did things. She questioned his convictions after he did each thing in game and if he’s doing them because others wanted, or if he was doing them because he wanted to, despite if others didn’t like it. She starts out as a questionable figure that he soon comes to respect and admire, even crush on, and slowly turns into something close to an unhealthy obsession with her. Could even say he loved her, as he did everything to help her and stay by her side to the extent it’s like, without her he couldn’t keep living. Which, when she ends up sacrificing herself so the others could live, it’s seen that it seems to become almost true.
From the beginning he has had it, subtly from when he just followed her despite the things he feared. Death was scary in itself and he was afraid of it, but he kept moving onwards despite that, though soon he just came to fear losing Milla herself and when she WAS gone, it felt like he had no reason to go on. It was bad enough that he nearly died by starving himself and having a gun pointed at him by Alvin whom was determined to go back to his home world. Killing Jude and Leia were his ticket home, after all. Though this psychological injury was made worse when Muzet dug in as deeply as she possibly could, using harsh words and revealing the true nature of things while deepening his wounds. Saying he should get rid of his emotions, which likely lead to his emotional state in game for the longest time, and he surely would have died if it hadn’t been for Leia’s actions and seeing Alvin’s conviction to kill them and get home. This also served another purpose in helping him realize that he should start making his own decisions and thinking for himself, and that he wouldn’t want to throw away the gift of life that Milla had given to them in sacrificing herself.
Jude really is a good-hearted guy with a mild lack of confidence – which he’s working on – that got in a bit over his head with this entire situation. Though he doesn’t at all regret it, and it hurt a lot at times, this journey so far has helped him start maturing into the man he will eventually become.

Since there’s a LOT of artes the characters themselves can use, I’ll be linking a list of them but explain the basics of them first if it’s allowed.
Everyone in the world of Rieze Maxia can use things like Spirit Artes. This is something that is enacted by people sharing mana with spirits and in turn they help them with artes that can be used for everything and have four different elements that can be used with them. They were born with something called a ‘mana-lobe’ which helps with this, and it gives Jude a way to fight, while unorthodox. He uses his fists to enact artes into his punches and kicks, and is quick on his feet in battle. He’s also capable of healing to an extent since he’d been training to be a doctor before.
He uses a lot of martial artes that he learned in his childhood to defend himself, and while he’s not like a master/pro at it, he’s still pretty good at it and can land sharp, precise hits on an enemy. Jude is able to change his style depending on whom he’s linked with [in canon] and even seems to be a bit acrobatic as he’s had artes where he stands on his hands to kick an enemy into the air.
Lastly he can dodge an enemy attack and take that opening to go behind them to attack, tying into his quick ability on his feet.

[ The world really could be cruel.
Upon waking in a world that wasn’t even his home, it had honestly been a shock to him as he was without anyone he knew. Yet when his face appears on screen, there’s nothing but an air of calm with the aid of a smile; albeit somewhat unnerved a bit. ]
Uh, hey.
I don’t think I really understand just what’s going on here. I mean, I know where I am, but that’s just about it. [ A pause and he looks thoughtful for a moment. ] I’d be really grateful if someone could fill me in with some more information.
I do have to admit it was a little weird waking up here, though I’m sure that I’m definitely not the first one who’s probably said that.
[ Jude then seems to go quiet and he glances out the window nearby, remaining so for a second or two before his eyes widen a little and he looks back to the screen with a somewhat determined look on his face. ]
Could anyone tell me if there’s significance to that billboard you see when you wake up here? Something seems off about it and it isn’t just the message or the picture itself, but I could just be reading into it too much.
Sample Entry Two:
Everything would be alright now, wouldn’t it? He’d spent too long in the dark, burned by the words of Muzet’s that she’d said so coldly and the idea that Milla was really gone. Believing that there was nothing left for him to do and in doing so nearly lost the life that Milla had spared; his and Leia’s as well whom he still felt awful for how he’d treated her recently.
His wounds were still fresh but they were healing up, and once they found Maxwell – the real one – they could maybe all get some answers and he wasn’t going to back down. Not after everything so far. Leaving it be left a bad taste in his mouth and he knew Milla long would have made the step to go ahead and search for answers herself instead of acting like he had. Nobody was going to save them, they had to take responsibility for their own actions and speak for themselves.
Live out this life that he’d taken for granted.
It was a thought that lingered in the back of Jude’s mind even as he rolled over in his sleep, though something about the action itself just felt off. Perhaps it was the light that shone in onto the bed, or even the loud buzzing of something right near him, completely waking Jude with a jolt as he sat bolt upright in the bed. Golden-brown eyes went wide as he took in the surroundings with a bit of alarm, as nothing looked at all familiar, and not to mention that Rowen, Elize and Leia were completely gone when they’d just been with him a moment ago. “…What…?” He whispered the question to nobody in particular as he moved to get up off the bed, turning to look at it and then everything else before crossing his arms over his chest idly.
“…This doesn’t make sense. Just what is going on here?” Jude shook his head and slowly walked over to the window, taking in the desolate environment with mute shock and disbelief. This definitely wasn’t Rieze Maxia, and this couldn’t even remotely be Muzet’s doing, so it left the question of just who could be behind him ending up here?
Mutely he took a brief glance at the billboard and then back over to where he’d woken up, catching something dark sitting on the pillow. Oddly shaped but why hadn’t he noticed it before? That’s when an idea hit him. Maybe… this could help and he could try and see if anyone else really had ended up here besides him.
