Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

Sissel | Ghost Trick

[personal profile] intricat 2014-05-16 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
Name: Moss
Contact Info: Stonegathers @ plurk and AIM
Other Characters Played: Sawako Kuronuma and Riley Abel
Requested apartment: N/A

Character Name: Sissel
Canon: Ghost Trick
Canon Point: Beginning of chapter 15
Background/History: Wiki link!

Personality:

Sissel doesn't have any memories. He's a blank slate, a ghost (literally) wandering without any ties to his past. But that doesn't mean Sissel is without personality, he just doesn't know who he was before being dead. That being said, his death is a major driving point for his character. He's not upset about it so much as he just wants to understand why he died and who he was, and while he would probably jump at the chance to come back to life, he's happy to move on so long as those questions get answered. It's all he really cares about, which means the questions “Who am I” and “Why did I die” have a great impact on his motivations, and answering them is the one goal he puts above everything else.

That's not to say Sissel doesn't care about anything else. He's not someone who will just stand around and let something bad happen to the people around him, not if he can do something about it. Throughout the game, Sissel saves the people who die on his way to finding the truth. He could probably leave them for dead, but it's not who he is. He's not heartless or mean-spirited. He's just a guy trying to find his past.

He can also be really sassy, though, and he frequently cracks jokes and makes light of the situations he finds himself in. Despite being dead, having no memories, and being faced with the disappearing forever once morning comes, Sissel is incredibly laid back and chill about it all. He keeps a level head through most of his journey, and while there are some things that definitely throw him off—like Yomiel sharing his face—he's really good at taking things as they come, and adapting to the situations at hand. Being dead? No big deal. Having ghost powers? Weird, but cool. Being able to time travel? Yep, that's a thing. He reacts so calmly to all the crazy that gets thrown at him throughout the game, it's actually kind of awesome. Yeah, he has his goals, he desperately wants to know who he is. But he's not about to stress himself out worrying over it.

When it comes to things in the real world, Sissel is often lacking some information. This is because in life he was actually a cat (surprise!) so some of the specifics of how things are used and what they do are a little unclear to him. He's a fast learner, and easily picks up on how things work, but sometimes he's just clueless. Like when it comes to reading. Having been a cat in life, Sissel never really had reason or means to learn to read, so he's out of luck there. Oh well.

All in all, Sissel is a good guy. He has his goal, he has his drive, but he's relaxed and easy going at the same time. He's determined, but not so much that it gets in the way of helping the people around him. Really, he's coolest dead cat guy you will ever meet.

Abilities/Powers:

Because he died close to a fragment of the Temsik meteor, Sissel acquired a few unique abilities, called the powers of the dead.

Sissel can possess things, with some limitations. For one, he can't just float around willy nilly. He has to hop from one item to another in order to move around, and he has a limited reach. So if he's trying to get from a toolbox to a phone, but the phone is all the way down the street? Well, then he' won't be able to reach the phone unless he travels through some other items first.

He can also trick the items he possesses. This also has limitations. Not every item can be moved, and the ones that can can only move in ways they would normally be able to. This means he can open a toolbox, but he wouldn't be able to send the tools flying around. He can also use this to travel through phone-lines to places he knows the number of.

Sissel can travel through time, but only to four minutes before a person's death. He can then attempt to save them using items in the area. He can retry as many times as he wants, but he can't travel further back in time, and can only do so much.

Lastly, Sissel can talk to people who have died, by possessing their body. If their spirit is awake, he can also talk to them once he's saved them, by possessing them again.

ALSO: As a note. Sissel is from a canon point where he still believes he's human, and his spirit takes this form. So when he comes into the game, I would prefer if he didn't come in as a cat, but as who he believes he is. This will make him easier to play—because playing a cat that can't communicate would be nigh impossible—and it will also prevent spoilers for those who have yet to play ghost trick, as Sissel's identity is a really big plot twist.

Items/Weapons: Sunglasses, Cabanela's red scarf, and a desk lamp

Sample Entry: Link to a musebox test-drive!
Sample Entry Two:

Being alive again is strange. Mostly because he can't remember what being alive was like. It's definitely a nice change of pace, though. He's able to move freely, walk the streets without the hassle of problem solving a path from point A to B. It's nice to touch things, too, and to breathe. What's not so great is the place he's in, though. Haven. It' definitely doesn't look like one, being the gritty town it is, danger lurking at it's corners. It's also as far from getting answers as it could be. How is he supposed to remember who he is, if he's stuck here? How is he supposed to find the truth? He's definitely glad to be living, but not having his memory is still frustrating.

He looks up at the billboard, up at two smiling faces holding strange masks. There are words he can't read there, too, but he doubts they're important. He hope they aren't, anyway. He adjusts his sunglasses and shoves his hands into his pockets, continuing on down the street. He's not sure where he's going, but he's not about to sit inside while there might be answers out there, somewhere. Maybe they wouldn't be for his own questions, but for others. And he's okay with that. Because if he can help the people here, maybe they could help him, too.

At least, that's what he hopes will be the case. It's not like he has many other options.
