Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE
We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.
In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.
While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

Tao’s lonely days in the DA-5 have since taken a turn with his defection to Frankenstein’s household. There, his aptitude for adaptation comes to light in his easy transition as a high school security guard and his playing sycophant toward Frankenstein, who recognizes his value. The household’s acceptance has had a profound hand in changing Tao’s once grim and quiet character into someone much more open, garrulous, and cheeky: he does as he pleases, goofs off often – M-21 and Takeo do the dishes; Tao plays with the kids – and overall has little in the way of self-restraint, being shameless enough to sleep in other people’s rooms when his own doesn’t have space.
Despite his glaring eccentricities, his shrewdness lends him a leadership role among himself, Takeo, and M-21 in all matters of business and combat. This is a significant reversal in power for Tao, who’s learned to place stock in the decisions he was deprived of making in the Union, and results in his earnest efforts to always make the most of what he has. His privileged experiences include camaraderie and brotherhood – the latter through Ik Han, who’s like a little brother and the base reason Tao chose to turn against the DA-5 – which have both nurtured his protective and philanthropic side. He cements his place with the conception of RK-5, dubbing themselves knights to Raizel, who took them in. The new life has more than succeeded in dragging him out of his shell and gifting him close companions in Takeo and M-21; however, he readily admits that he will never adjust to the ordinary world and its promises in full.
Through the Union, Tao has developed certain skills that sharpen his interactions, such as his ability to read a situation and respond with appropriate caution in spite of his otherwise silly demeanor. He excels in the duplicitous approach, in one instance gauging an undercover pair of agents’ potential strength by assessing the manner in which they open a can. The small things do not escape his notice, and he is capable of acquiring, processing, and utilizing a multitude of information. This is in large part what allows him to manipulate and wheedle others based on their character.
More so than the Union's amoral influence, Tao's curiosity drives him to stick his nose in every nook and cranny available. He periodically hacked into the Union's database for the latest scoop, and he has no qualms diving into surrounding security cameras when they suit his needs. Sometimes he takes to just asking a person. After all, his position in a given team relies on his knowledge of surroundings and enemies for maximum effect. He enjoys knowing, and he thrives on it. However, there are things to which he admits defeat and bows out with some level of grace, like declining to give Ik Han and Shin Woo dating advice for his complete lack of experience.
Tao’s one consistent feature before and after the Union revolves around his love of computers. Without fear for the consequence, he would dismantle equipment supplied by the Union and those salvaged from the DA-5’s targets to create new gadgets; among these were Ultra No. 5, a beloved laptop that refused to turn on one rainy night in a cave. The mere recollection of this sends Tao rocking side to side in a vulnerable position, and he speaks of Ultra No. 5 like a dying person. In more recent times, the lack of surveillance systems drives Tao up the wall, insofar that he braved sneaking in cameras in the household without Frankenstein’s knowing.
Abilities/Powers: Tao was modified to possess enhanced speed, power, and regeneration, as well as resilience to a certain level of mind control. As a weapons specialist, he uses wires to ensnare his target and conduct electricity from his surroundings, though he can generate his own to a lesser extent. His abilities are amplified by a set of drugs, T-2, which comes with a desperation type that pushes his powers to their peak and results in his demise.
Unparalleled as a hacker in gathering intelligence and doling counterintelligence (as Ik Han describes the experience like facing 20 people during one of Tao's playful moods), Tao's true strength lies in tactical support. His application of tactical and technical knowledge is best exemplified by his prediction of an opponent's movements using sonar receptors, and this level of skill enables him to seize control of the battlefield from afar.
Tao has a hobby of taking apart equipment and putting together new devices, including, but not limited to, repurposed ear pieces and security systems. Electrical gadgets aside, he's an accomplished craftsman in that he modified a toy gun for his firearms teammate, Takeo, and a special nail file for his quasi-werewolf companion, M-21.
As a former itinerant agent of the Union, Tao is multilingual (Korean and unstated others) and has been trained to lie under most truth serum.

Sample Entry: Weirdo. You call that a meeting?
Sample Entry Two: The communal room was barren, not unlike the buildings the DA-5 had made a shelter out of on their travels. It was a far cry from the bustling main room of the household, with neither children nor a large widescreen, but rather a chair on which Tao sat, his legs crossed and head inclined to the dated phone in his grasp.
"In the end, there wasn't anything interesting," he sighed, tapping his propped knee.
He was going mad. His finger were cramped, aching for the touch of a working keyboard. The pent up energy broiled in his restless figure, stretching his limbs as he sprawled lethargically against the chair. There was that nagging in the back of his mind again – not just from the feeling of being watched in Haven, but also the tragic lack of an outlet for his technology needs.
Were his memory not exceptional, he would have long lost any form of storage for information. Of which, he admitted, there was an abundance. With so little known, Haven brimmed with mysterious potential. One discovery would lead to two questions, the answers to which would yield three more puzzles. It was endless, though, of course, there had to be an end somewhere down the line.
Yes. That consoled him. With a deep intake of breath, then a long exhale, Tao leaped onto his feet.
"Right . . . it's time to get some work done."
He needed to return home before he could get paid again. See the children again. Mingle with the household again.
Pocketing the phone, he strolled with purpose out of the communal area.
