APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE
We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.
In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.
While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

Stiles spent almost a year under the grip of COMPASS in Exit Void, and for better or worse, he has changed. At first he had been dumped onto a ship called the Charon; for the first time in years, he found himself without Scott, meaning he had to learn how to rely on himself, more than any other time. Jackson and Derek were there, as well, and despite their constant bickering, they ended up managing to be friends. There were adventures in Jurassic Park, and other situations where Stiles learned to be resourceful and create powerful friendships that would sustain him throughout his time. When Jackson canon updated, though...things went a bit south. Not wanting to deal with the Kanima again, Stiles told the entire network what Jackson was to become--and it created a rift between the two that only got worse when Jackson went mad and mauled Stiles. He now sports three claw-mark scars on his left cheek and down his neck. That was when Stiles found himself at his lowest--he acted out towards everyone, including Scott (who showed up after the Kanima (part deux) incident). It was a long hard road, but eventually Stiles came to see the scars as a mark of what he has survived, and realizes they made him stronger.
One of the most troubling events he ever went through, is when they were transported to Silent Hill. Stiles was forced to kill a monster in the form of his mother, something that he still struggles with.
Halfway through his little ‘vacation’, Stiles ends up in Zelien. This city brought him a little bit of respite when it came to fighting, but different sorts of struggles. He did find happiness, even if it didn’t last--Erica showed up, and they had a very brief romance (where he lost his virginity, yay!), but she soon went home, to her death. The rest of his time spent in the city was devoted to research, trying to use his smarts to find a way out, and becoming a bigger fighter--something less of a liability. He became tired of having to rely on other people to save him, so he started to work with Derek Hale to learn how better to save himself.
Within his canon mates, there were changes in dynamics. Scott started to become a more reckless sort of hero, something that Stiles really struggled with; additionally, more people started to follow Scott, believe in him. Stiles felt slightly shoved to the side, and found ways to make up for it. Additionally, Stiles became good friends with Derek Hale. While initially they fought most (all) of the time, after Erica’s departure, they started to work together more often. It first was an allegiance, a barely-tolerated situation, but as they both started to research the Gods in the city, . and making some of the same ideas and plants separately, they realized that working together might be a good idea. Derek started to train him, and Stiles started to confide in Derek the things that he was scared to tell Scott.
Overall, Stiles has a harder edge, now. He realizes that there are horrible things, worse things than could ever occur in Beacon Hills. He has to be tough, he has to be prepared to suffer, and know it might just be the way things are. There is still some brightness to him, occasionally, but he is a realist more now, than he ever was before, and while he occasionally worries that he has become too cynical...he realizes it might be necessary.
Personality:
Stiles Stilinksi, while considered the ‘sidekick’ to Scott’s main character, is as much a force to be reckoned with as his best friend. He has ADHD, and takes medication to keep it at bay--as a result, he is sometimes flighty, and suffers from ‘shiny’ syndrome occasionally. He seems to love researching weird things (like the history of male circumcision). He’s pretty nerdy, and clearly has a love of scifi and horror films of all types, and also plays online games (it’s alluded to be something like World of Warcraft). At the beginning of the first season, we see Stiles as an unpopular high school student. Despite being on the Lacrosse team, he doesn’t seem to have any friends besides Scott--someone he relies on heavily. While not explicitly said, it would not be surprising to find out that Stiles joined Lacrosse so that he could be close to Scott. He supports his friend completely, and sees him as his partner in crime in situations.
Even when Scott starts having his little ‘werewolf’ problem, Stiles stay steadfastly loyal--there is no abandonment, no judgement. He gets scared, yes, and occasionally freaks out, but he never once leaves his friend in a lurch. Instead, he learns everything he can about the situation, and more than once puts himself into deadly situations to help him. This includes being willing to die with him, to try and save him during the events of Motel California. With Scott, more than anyone else, he has a very clear ‘you die, I die’ philosophy. This doesn’t mean he doesn’t lash out times (after Scott kissed Lydia, for example), but for the most part, he does his best trying to support and do what is best for Scott--even if Scott doesn’t realize it at the time.
Stiles is the brains of the situation--even as things start getting more complicated, as more werewolves start showing up, he keeps his head on straight, and acts as the researcher. During the third season he is the first to recognize that the deaths occurring around them are the result of sacrifices--the three fold death, done in threes. While his methods aren’t always the most...conventional, his reasoning and his gut is usually correct. Even Derek, who doesn’t trust him, who doesn’t see him as much more as a kid most of the time, relies on him to gain information that they need to survive. Whether its’ manipulating Derek to take his shirt off repeatedly in front of a gay man to get said gay man to provide them technical help, or getting his father drunk to gain more information on a case, Stiles uses his cunning and creative brain to find solutions to dire problems. He, in fact, is the one who first suspects that Matt might be the one who controls the Kanima. It’s a gut instinct born of observation, and while no one believes him at the time--it’s proven correct.
Stiles shows bravery (or stupidity), in a great many situations--he spends two hours treading water to keep a paralyzed Derek from drowning while the Kanima stalks them. Repeatedly he throws himself in the fray to try and protect those he cares about (friends, family). He will put his own desires aside, if it means helping them. However, it doesn’t extend necessarily to other people. Yes, it is important to try and save people, but it is clear that if it means protecting a loved one, or part of the self-made ‘pack’, other people can die. It sucks, but hey, if someone has to die, it might as well not be someone he cares about. Stiles willingly sacrifices himself to save his father, putting a bit of darkness within himself so he doesn’t lose his last remaining parent.
Thing is--Stiles doesn’t consider himself a hero. As he tells Scott, he can’t do what he does--he doesn’t have powers...he’s human. Painfully so. He feels that sarcasm is his only defense, and tends to discount his own actions. His self esteem is low in season 1, and by season 2 we start to see it slide into the gutter. He’s stressed, always, and towards the end is suffering from hyper-vigilance--the feeling that everything is going to crash down on top of him. We see him struggling with his father, his own feelings of inadequacy, and the deep seated pain of his mother’s death start to surface. He lashes out at Lydia in a very uncharacteristic manner in the last episode of the second season, as if all his stress, all his fear of those around him dying, comes crashing to the surface. Things seem to be better in season three, with him coming into his own, owning his intelligence, his capability to hold his own. He starts fighting harder alongside Scott, facing down hell with a hardened edge. Weakness can’t be tolerated; he has to be strong if he’s going to save those he loves. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t have doubts; when he’s in the ambulance with Cora, he still worries that he is useless, that all he can do is ‘find the bodies’, but it’s a momentary bout of self-doubt.
Stiles *severely* lacks a filter on his mouth, and it gets him in trouble. Underneath the humor, the light attitude, Stiles is someone who lacks self esteem in himself, and worries that he will always be second best (or worse) to all of those around him. Even when he refuses the bite from Peter Hale, he is told he’s a liar--that he truly wished to be something *better* than he was, then. As someone who has always been completely under the radar, with one sole friend, the sudden appearance of super-special werewolves (and Scott’s inclusion in the group), and his best friend gaining a girlfriend, he starts to feel well and truly alone. However, by the end of season three, it’s clear that he’s found his place within the group. It may be just their small little group against the world, but he’s just fine with that. Things may be shit, things may get shittier, but at least he knows where he stands, and can take strength in that.
When it comes to his father, Stiles has a good but complicated relationship. He hallucinates that his father blames him for his mother’s death--and Stiles, one to always talk, to always have some quip--simply takes the abuse, and is silent and unresponsive to Scott afterwards. It is clear that he feels that it is true--that he has let his father down (despite trying to take care of him), and that he is a failure as a son. He readily admits he used to have panic attacks after his mother died--and it is quite clear that they probably haven’t completely gone away. The death of his mother has injured him greatly, and like Derek Hale, he internalizes it--though instead of becoming broody, Stiles attempts to pretend that nothing is wrong, hiding behind the mask of sarcasm to make sure that know one knows he’s hurting. When he attempts to tell his father about the supernatural, and his father refuses to believe, he quips that his mother would have believed him. While they love each other deeply, and would clearly do anything to keep the other safe, the loss of Mrs. Stilinski still weighs heavily on both of them.
Adding a *tiny* bit about important relationships here, because I don’t know where else to put it. I think in the main body of the personality section I’ve covered Scott and him pretty well--I just wanted to put in a small blurb about Lydia.
Lydia Martin is a young woman that Stiles has loved for 10 years. A great many of his own character weaknesses come out when he is around her. He is awkward, unable to truly express himself. Also, one could contend that he is a bit self-deluded about her. It is clear after the few times they talk, that while he knows a great deal about her, he doesn’t know her. It’s clear that while he may not realize it, he’s in love with the ‘idea’ of Lydia, but not the actual Lydia. He’s placed her on a pedestal, which isn’t fair to Stiles, or to Lydia. By season three we see that Stiles is becoming friends with her, and accepting her as a person, not just as a love interest. He is trying to help her discover what she is, and supports her in her abilities. It shows the growth within Stiles, that he can finally want to see her as a friend and a real human, instead of a creature to be idealized, and maybe realize that her being happy is more important than her being with him.

- The ability to be the ‘spark’. While this may sound strange and hokey, it has been proven that Stiles has the capability of willing certain types of magic/lore to work with enough hope/imagination. This isn’t a gift solely his alone (it appears that humans are capable of it), he’s learned how to use it--at least with mountain ash.
-Intelligence. It’s clear that Stiles has more than the average amount of intelligence, and he uses it to the best of his ability. He tends to put things together quickly and manages to be right most (?) of the time.
-Sarcasm. That totally counts as an ability correct?
Items/Weapons: A metal bat. A gun with a full clip. A bag of mountain ash.

Sample Entry Two:
There used to be an old myth that if you were falling in a dream and you didn’t wake up before you hit the ground, you’d die in real life.
The dreams also symbolize insecurity, instability, anxiety.
They signified a sense of failure or inferiority in some circumstance or situation.
Stiles had been having a lot of dreams like that, lately. Ones where he barely wakes up before he hits the ground--or instead of the ground it’s water, and he only starts to drown.
Because hey, he’s never going to get just one nightmare. It’s going to be a nightmare within a nightmare. A nightmare-ception.
Stiles had honestly hoped that after everything was said and done, after the horrors of the Charon, of Zelien, after the fucking Chuthulu gridmark god shit, they would get to go home. That things would be okay, even.
Well not ‘okay’, but better than the ‘ I’m probably going to die today in a horrible, bloody, ‘oh god they are going to find my body parts strewn throughout the town’ way he had been feeling lately.
He still felt like there was something that he had missed; that everything had been a bit of a hollow victory, for him. Sure, they had won the fucking day. Sure, the COMPASS people said they could go home. That they finally ‘beat the game’, and could go home to Beacon Hills. But...from everything Derek had told him, from what Lydia told him--whatever he had been going home to? Was going to be a mess. A horror show the likes of which he hadn’t seen.
Well, hadn’t seen until showing up in COMPASS experiments, that is. But from what he understood, he wasn’t going to remember this place, going home. The friendships he had made...how he had changed, all of that would be pulled away from him.
That understanding that things were going to change, no matter what he did--that had to be the cause of the dreams, right?
So when the dream started again, after Stiles stepped through the portal, that was going to take them home, he didn’t think anything of it. It’s just how it had to happen, right?
Except this time, as he rushed towards the ground, he felt as if his eyes were wide open. Stiles threw his arms out in front of him, screaming “Wake up! Wake up!”
And wake up he did.
To a bed, in a strange room. With five other beds.
“...what...the fuck.”
Stiles started to untangle himself, pushing himself into a sitting position to look around himself. This? Looked nothing like his bedroom. Or home. And as he brought his hand up to his face, he felt the three scars sliding along his face. Signs of his time under COMPASS’ yoke.
Forcing himself to standing, he ran a hand over hair, trying to keep himself calm. He hadn’t had a panic attack in a while, and he was not going to have one here. In a place that wasn’t home, that didn’t look like a COMPASS place, either. How the hell did this happen? How did he get--
--how did it go wrong?
“Okay, just think Stiles, think--”
He muttered to himself, trying to sort this out. So he was stuck in a weird place (again), and he wasn’t sure if anyone from home (or Zelien) was with him--or if they had made it home. That left him with two options from his random set of knowledge. He was either stuck in some weird sci-fi/fantasy type thing (again), which meant that wandering might be okay. People might even be around--you know, a friendly half-goat man, or something.
Or he was stuck in some weirdly themed slasher trope (again), which meant that wandering was going to get him hacked into little pieces. Because guess what? He wasn’t a virgin, anymore. And non-virgins always died.
First thing, look for some sort of marker--something hint at where you are.
Stiles let out a breath and forced himself to focus; turning 180 degrees..but found nothing. Nothing, yet.
Damn it--
“What the hell is going on...”
