Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:

Previous Game History:
( @ [community profile] exitvoid )
Castiel shows up in Zelien directly after Dean's obvious death trap, pretty confused and a little disoriented. Rather than wait around for the answers to be handed out, he heads straight off to explore and gather his own recon. He meets Fatima--who he promptly almost shoots in the head. Once realizing she's a friendly (and that she knows his name), he asks about the place they're in. Unfortunately, it's new to her as well, though she mentions having been previously on a boat instead, which is how she knows Dean and thus him by extension. The first few weeks are spent trying to establish a timeline and exploring, gathering supplies and waiting for something to happen. Though Fatima had mentioned that Dean was there, Castiel never met or ran into him.

His third week is punctured by his Dean's arrival. It's more a mistake that he sees him, having gone to check the train station for any possible people from his world. Rather than embrace him, Cas tries to run away. He doesn't face Dean until much later, and it's with the news that Sam is there as well. Except this Sam is young and nowhere near who they remember Sam being. Dean's convinced that Lucifer is still wearing his brother, and Cas, having talked to the younger Winchester, knows that not to be the case. Of course, they butt heads and don't speak for a while.

This is how he finds Dean and Sam in the church, Dean ready to kill Sam outright. Castiel intervenes, and Dean gets pissed, thinking "Lucifer" has done something to Cas, has convinced him to take his side. Cas tells Dean he can shoot him instead of Sam, and somehow, it ends in Dean leaving, angry at Cas and betrayed, while Cas begins to explain to Sam what had happened in their future. In his own.

Another week almost passes by before Dean and Cas speak again.

He has to convince Dean to tell him where he is, and when they meet near the docks, they argue about Sam, the devil, and Cas choosing him over Dean. Dean isn't entirely happy with him and ends up shoving Cas into the murky water, but Castiel isn't without a fight, dragging Dean down with him. Even the swim back to the edge of the shoreline isn't enough to cool them off, and once again, they part without really speaking. Despite his conflicts with Dean, Castiel is also busy making friends and learning about some of the others in Zelien, namely a young woman by the name of Evelynn (Lone Wanderer). They click right away, both being survivors, and though Cas wants to find time in an effort to have Dean understand him, he's also very distracted by his new friendship with Evelynn. Before anything can be done, they experience their first Rift.

Rather than waking up in Zelien, they wake up on a space ship, the USG Ishimura, with a whole lot of necromorphs problems. Castiel works with some of the others to get some of the ship more functional and ends up with trapped with Isaac in one of the ducts. Needless to say, considering Isaac's claustrophobia, it's not a pretty sight. Somehow, they make it out of there though, and Castiel ends up wandering the ship, getting lost and disconnected from the others he had been with. Something causes those wandering the halls to begin experiencing mass hallucinations, which leads Cas to cutting open his own hand to begin painting angelic warding sigils all over the walls to protect himself and whoever else he might run into. Evelynn stumbles upon him just as he's convinced himself the only way to stop the angels from taking him is to open one of the airlocks, and she knocks him out with a sharp blow to the head in order to protect him.

With the trip to space over, Cas spends a lot of time to himself. He sits out on the campus, talking to those who might come by, and he explores many places. He even speaks to Evelynn about the events of the Ishimura, thanking her despite the overwhelming desire to kill himself. Throughout this week, he gets an unexpected message from Dean telling him he's at the graveyard, and Castiel immediately knows why. He doesn't know the exact details, but Sam's dead. He goes to console Dean in an effort to help him see reason, that Sam will come back despite not actually know if that's true. He's only heard the rumors. Sam does come back. Of course, seeing Dean causes him to flip, but with Cas there as the buffer, no one shoots anyone or runs away.

During the days that follow, Castiel makes a deal with a witch in an effort to further patch things up with Dean. She gives him a ring with a symbol on it in return for "a favor", one that's supposed to offer him protection and luck. It's both an apology and a rather late birthday gift for Dean. They drink, discussing Sam and the past-thems that are there, some random what-ifs. It's almost okay for a while--until Cas realizes he needs to rethink having given Dean something from a witch. Dean basically tells him to go away when he tries to take it back.

The next day, Cas learns that Lucifer has arrived to Zelien by accidentally meeting with him face to face on campus. Lucifer kills him without excessive prompting, though Cas did draw a knife on him, and he spends the next week MIA. Evelynn, of course, is worried about him and goes to find him. Dean, too, finds him at the church, and they discuss the fact Lucifer really is there, a detail Dean withheld from him when he'd tried to take the ring back. It doesn't breed trust between them, though Castiel messages Dean later to tell him that Michael is also in Zelien. Convincing Dean not to go to Michael in order to end Lucifer is difficult and doesn't entirely reach through. A little while later, Dean disappears, and Castiel goes to Sam with this information, thinking the younger Winchester might have seen him. Sam, in turn, talks to Michael, but the angel hadn't given into Dean's demand of being taken as a vessel.

In answer to that, thinking he has no one else, Castiel decides to get very, very drunk.

He even prays to the other Cas, ranting and accusing him of being the useless one. This is the moment Castiel decides that he wants to take the angel's grace, get it back and be capable of doing something. The angel refuses and renders him unconscious so he can sleep off his alcoholic stupor. He even talks to the other Dean at some point through all of this, telling him he has nothing left and he doesn't know what else to do. Dean tells him he just has to push through it and that maybe it's for the better--he hadn't deserved to be dragged down.

Eventually, things seem to even out despite Dean still missing, and within the next week, Zelien opens a carnival. He meets many new people there (Kaede and Meg), and incidentally, somewhere in the house of mirrors, he sees Dean. Cas thinks it's a hallucination at first, and considering the mirrors are picturing him with broken wings, he wouldn't necessarily be wrong. But Dean manages to convince him that he's real, that he doesn't know where he'd gone but he's back now. So, for a while things are relatively okay. Yet, Zelien has other plans for them, and they're thrown into yet another world: Jerusalem’s Lot. Cas comes to in a corn field where he has to fight for his life against possessed children. As he doesn't have a problem killing those who are intent on killing him, especially due to the circumstances of his home world. Here he meets Mindy and Cordy, both who seem opposed at his methods at first. When they make out of the cornfield, Cas splits from them and heads to the motel. On his way, he runs into Lucifer. The problem? Lucifer has somehow been rendered completely human, and Cas, rather than kill him, decides to show mercy - having experienced what Lucifer's experiencing himself - and help him. This leads to both of them opening up in different ways; Cas learns that Dean had been the one to put him in such a state and that he'd been lured into a trap. Later, he leaves him to meet up with Dean and explore, foregoing the details of having helped Lucifer recover and get as comfortable as he could possibly get in a body without any angelic power.

Back in Zelien, Castiel proposes that he, Sam, and Dean all move into one of the empty spaces in the academic building. With some prompting from Sam, they take over one of them, and as they're celebrating one night, Cas confesses that he hadn't been strong enough to follow through on their one mission: to kill the devil. Inevitably, Dean gets beyond angry with him and kicks him out. Cas spends the next week trying to forget about it, hanging out in the abandoned pool in the recreational building. Still, he refuses to allow this to interfere with whatever relationship they're beginning to rebuild, and he keeps pressing--he sends Dean several messages and eventually waits for him outside their place. They argue, of course, but they eventually reconcile. Something new between them is realized that day, and Castiel is determined not to keep secrets from Dean any longer.

After several weeks of hardly any movement from COMPASS and minor drama between the angels and the others, Zelien drops them into London circa-2002 where there's a zombie outbreak. Cas isn't so unfamiliar with this, and he takes his time exploring and gathering as much stuff as he can. He and Dean find themselves in a mall, cornered by some of the infected in a clothing store and forced to crawl into the vents to escape. Later that week, they're on another supply run when they have to stop for gas. Or try to find some. Castiel gets stuck inside the station's little store with some of the infected, and Dean, unfortunately, decides to draw them out. By the car, they're catching their breath, and it's when he realizes that he's got some of their blood in his mouth. Which, as they've learned, is all it takes to turn here. In the end, Cas has no choice but to kill him.

The next several days are a blur for him. Once back in Zelien, Castiel spends an unhealthy amount of time waiting at the graveyard, hoping Dean will come back as the others had. Unfortunately, he doesn't. He finally has to break down and tell Sam that he had to kill Dean and that Dean has yet to come back. Cas sends Dean several messages over his device, which go through. He hardly stops to think that it means Dean's still somewhere and not back home; he's too upset. He angrily drunk-texts Michael, blaming him for his own failures. He also gets incredibly drunk one night later, so drunk that he doesn't know that he's prayed to Lucifer until the archangel is there and relatively curious about his behavior. With Cas' behavior and a rather deep exchange of words, they come to an understanding of sorts, and the next morning, Cas tell Lucifer that he will try to trust him in an effort to know him better. They don't have time to discuss it as Dean turns up, threatening to leave. Somehow, Cas manages to break through and convince him they're stronger together even if they hurt each other by remaining as they are. Then, unfortunately, the buildings begin to shift and become capable of literally eating those inside them. Dean and Cas escape, making a plan to head for the jungle after snagging a tent and getting in touch with Sam. Once they make it there, everything, as it so happens, goes dark.

Personality:
Castiel is an angel of the Lord. Cliche, probably, but it sums up the whole of him to a point.

In general, he exhibits behaviors typical of his other brethren when he first makes an appearance in human form: little emotion, relatively calm, aloof. He lacks compassion in relating to humans as a group and as individuals. He doesn’t understand their lack of obedience or the feelings they express, continuously confused by their assertion of free will, and it often clashes with his perception of them as well as the orders he is given by his superiors. In fact, as little as he understands them as people, he understands objects, phrases, and references even less. Still, the moment he drags Dean from Hell and entangles himself with the Winchesters is the beginning of much change for Castiel. If anything can be said of that, he’s determined, and that determination drives much of him.

His time spent with Dean and Sam, as well as on earth, become a slow immersion of learning human culture as well as what differentiates humans from angels, what it means to be human. He’s loyal to a fault, but after some time, he confesses to Dean that he’s beginning to have doubts of his own about the orders he’s given and how he’s spending his time otherwise. Is it right or wrong? Is there more beyond a simple command? It’s a very big concept for someone like Castiel; thinking on his own, in that manner, tends to not have a happy ending. Re: Lucifer, Anna, humanity. Eventually, it causes him to rebel against heaven. Yet, it’s not his faith that’s rocked at the foundation. He still has absolute love and trust in God, admires humanity for its beauty, and in those things alone he sees conviction for his actions, though he continues to be naive as to the consequences of them. Most of this is seen later on, beyond season five, when he develops something of a god complex--in God’s absence, he feels it his responsibility to carry out retribution and punishment in an attempt to show mercy, taking back his opinion about free will and how all things must be ruled to maintain some semblance of order. His motivations become rather twisted, too full of pride, even if they are meant with the best of intentions.

Yet, it’s still a testament to how much Castiel has grown to care for the Winchesters alone and what sort of influence they have on him. While he has a more “profound bond” with Dean [ most likely due to the fact Castiel raised him from Hell and placed his mark upon him ], he has also taken considerable lessons from Sam as well. He’s learned the importance of free will and choosing, and with that has also come the realization that he has to take responsibility for the things he does--good or bad. Castiel is in constant conflict with his (more or less) angel programming and the pull of humanity, and both Sam and Dean do well to ease him through that transition rather than allow him the immediate crash course. Where Dean is the physical - habits, sarcasm, introducing Castiel to a numerous amount of “human” things [television, sex, etc.] - Sam is the mental. He shows him how to read people, offer sympathy to them to obtain the same results without overstepping boundaries that an angel might to get the same sort of information. They give him their strengths and enlighten him to the human disposition: what it means to be human, to feel, to be your own person. Though Hester claims that he’s been lost ever since he laid a hand on Dean in Hell, he’s come a long way in understanding those differences.

And despite having labeled Sam as an abomination, he views him as a very valuable friend in which he places his trust. There is absolutely nothing Castiel wouldn’t do for them, and as he’s said, he’s “more than happy to bleed for the Winchesters”.Though it's laced with sarcasm, there is truth to those words. First and foremost, however, they are his teachers and one of the greatest influences he has during his time on earth. They penetrate the defenses he builds around himself, and even through the moments he’s brainwashed by Naomi, his love for them, specifically Dean, proves to be more powerful than angelic intervention. Like countless times before, he resists killing them due to orders he's given.

Castiel, for the most part, minus the complex and the inevitable insanity he falls into in later seasons because of it, is generally composed and sure of the affection he shows to those he grows to care about. He’s pretty blind to social norms as well, seen many times in the way he constantly stares or invades a person’s personal space. His methods of interacting with others might be considered unorthodox or just plain weird, but the longer he’s on earth helps to humanize him more than many other angels. He becomes sympathetic and acquires a fondness for things he’d previously been indifferent towards as well, i.e. television and coffee.

Yet, this is a Castiel who is still, at heart, an angel. He’s still connected to heaven and still possesses hope. From the specific canon point of 05.04 (The End), this is not the case at all. Stopping the Apocalypse has become a failure; the Croatoan virus spread, and Sam agreed to become Lucifer’s vessel, upon which he doesn’t manifest any sort of relationship with him whatsoever. The world, for lack of a better explanation, had ended.

Here, Castiel’s personality differs greatly from what’s been described above. He’s human in every aspect of the word. He’s developed a taste for debauchery and decadence, drowning himself in them frequently. Daily even. Drugs, liquor, sex; anything that will give him a high, a moment’s peace isn’t off limits anymore because he doesn’t have the tolerance of an angel to keep him from fully experiencing them. It could be said he finds comfort in these things because he misses being able to separate himself from such urges, held to a higher standard than most. He doesn’t know how to cope, to adjust to what’s become of himself since “the end”, and his only friend is a rather poor example of these particular things himself. Now, he’s down-to-earth, supporting free will in the choice of ignoring what’s become of his (lack of) grace, and when he meets the past version of Dean, he labels him a ‘hippie’ because of this attitude. If the meditation circles and orgies don’t scream that specific label, nothing else will.

He later admits to Dean that he finds himself to be utterly hapless and hopeless. Powerless. There is no use for him, so ”why not”? He can’t contribute much to the efforts of the problems they face, and only because of a deep sense of devotion and loyalty to the bond he’s made with his time’s Dean has he stayed. He needs a purpose and has none. So, his faith has shifted from an entirely absent god and brothers who have left to someone who’s ultimately changed because of his sibling’s choice to invite the devil in.

Comprehension of human things are now an everyday norm for this Castiel too; he’s developed the use of slang and some references he would never have gotten (or understood) before. He still maintains an occasional sense of past behaviors and speech patterns, elaborating when necessary and sometimes cold, but his disposition is typical loose, high-induced happy, and finds amusement in things that probably aren’t meant to be funny. It could be the drugs. It could be he’s seen and been through too much to actually care about the consequences of his actions and/or words. His respect for authority continues to waver between cheeky and constant as seen with future Dean’s orders to walk in and shoot the devil despite it very likely being a trap. He’ll follow him to his death, and that speaks volumes despite Castiel’s behavior of choice post-apocalypse.

Essentially, this Castiel is very discontent and finds every way possible to avoid it. He’s lost to his humanity, lacks that drive he once possessed as an angel. And what more is there to do when the world’s gone under other than indulge to the end?

During his time in Zelien, Castiel has grown significantly in terms of purpose. He’d always felt disconnected from Dean in a way that hadn’t been natural, that hadn’t been what he’d wanted when he’d given his grace to remain on earth with him through the end. He’s learned that it’s okay to say no, to take control of the situation and not allow Dean to push him around like he had back home. It does put a lot of strain on their relationship, but Castiel is stronger for it nonetheless. There are more glimpses of that stubborn angel in him than ever before, and it’s thanks to the situations he’s had to face with the other angels being there as well as knowing Dean outside of their leader-follower roll. Still, he does what he might ask of him. Yet, this is all set within his own guidelines; he’s determined to work with Dean, not under him.

Castiel’s relationship, too, with Sam is significantly better. Where he hadn’t known what to think of him, other than feeling he had failed the youngest Winchester in some way, he’s come to understand his motives better than before. He’s also able to call him friend, and that’s something Castiel doesn’t have many of whatsoever. In retrospect, Sam’s presence has been a rather huge eye-opener to him. As has been his interactions with Lucifer. Somewhere inside him, Castiel still hates him for what he’s done to the world, but with the discussions they’ve had at length, it’s become a little easier to make a larger connection with him. That they are similar in ways he hadn’t realized is something he doesn’t want to think about because he’s not entirely sure what it might mean in the long run.

Abilities/Powers:
A list of abilities can be found here. However, with this specific canon point and given that Castiel is human, he has none of these. He’s capable of getting bones broken and must use guns and other (human) weapons to protect himself. Despite this, there does seem to be a little of his grace still intact as he could sense that past Dean was actually from a different time, even through the stupor of being high. So, a probable odd sense of perception that others might not possess. He is also fairly knowledgeable of supernatural lore, good with a gun, and even better with a knife/blade.

Items/Weapons:
→ clothes (as seen here)
→ (1) duffel containing rope, a hunting knife, (1) handgun with (1) clip, binoculars, (2) spare t-shirts
→ (1) small cannabis plant
