Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE
We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.
In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.
While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

Michael | Supernatural | Reserved (2/3)
Although he's the most devoted son any father could ask for, it comes at the cost of his ability to be a good older brother. When what's needed for the well-being of the angels runs counter to God's supposed wishes, he'll choose his Father over his siblings every time. He tells Dean that he "practically raised" Lucifer, and likens their relationship to Dean and Sam's, who are about as close to one another as siblings can be. But where Michael was once a caring authority figure to his younger brothers and sisters, he has become something of a tyrant. Lucifer's greatest crime was defiance of their Father and Michael won't allow any angel to follow in his footsteps and repeat that error. He expects unquestioning obedience of the younger angels in Heaven and sees no issue imposing harsh punishments on them should they act out of line with their orders, even to the extremes of torture and execution if he judges them necessary.
He has grown increasingly inflexible over the years. Now that God no longer resides in Heaven and no longer issues commands to him, the only directives he has to work from are those that foretell the Apocalypse, and he has become obsessed with it. Interfering with his destiny is one of the few things that can get a rise out of him: he grows furious with Lucifer when his brother suggests walking away from the Apocalypse, and he murders the angel Anna without a second thought when she tries to put a stop to it by erasing his and his brother's chosen vessels from existence.
His actions towards them may paint him as uncaring, but let it never be suggested that Michael doesn't love his siblings. He does - his fellow archangels in particular. When speaking to Dean he insists that he still loves his little brother, despite Lucifer's actions and his defiance in the face of God. Michael has simply had it impressed upon him that affection and family are secondary to obedience. If disagreeing with Him is enough to merit being thrown from Heaven for even God's favourite angel, then the rest of them can hardly expect more freedom of action. He also sees no issue in outright lying to them if makes them more compliant. Initially it's known only to the archangels and a select few high-ranking angels that God has abandoned Heaven: the rest are made to believe that the orders given out by their superiors are received directly from God. Ultimately, however, Michael feels that his handling of Heaven is in the angels' best interests. He provides the structure that they are accustomed to, and he prevents them from making the same mistake Lucifer made.
Though he falls short of showing humans the same kind of respect exhibited by the likes of Castiel, Michael's attitude towards humanity is more favourable than that of many of his brethren. He's neither openly contemptuous nor hostile towards them as angels like Zachariah and Uriel are. Outside of his vessels, he doesn't directly interact with them at all, and he keeps the other angels away from them as well. In light of what Michael is capable of doing to his own siblings, this hands-off approach to humanity is downright friendly. He's even willing to speak plainly with Dean, to explain both his motivations and his reasoning with regards to the Apocalypse to him. He simply doesn't respect Dean as an equal and dismisses his point of view. Michael is one of the oldest and most powerful entities in creation and his ego reflects that fact. To him, bending to a human's wishes would be like taking orders from a small child. They simply don't have the knowledge, experience or power that he does as an archangel.
Given the number and the nature of the titles he bears, it's no surprise that Michael shoulders a great deal of responsibility both as an older brother and as a leader. It's a position he's comfortable in, however - he is, after all, designed for the role. When God left Heaven he was quick to assume command and ensure the continued functioning of the Host. His innate need for order and structure is a boon in this capacity. Heaven's hierarchy is rigid and without exception, and Michael's presence in it is an important stabilizing factor; when he's eventually trapped in the Cage alongside Lucifer, Heaven descends into chaos.
Michael lives within the constraints of God's plan for him and consequently isn't particularly imaginative or a very creative thinker. Nonetheless, he's intelligent, and far from unable to cope with novel or unexpected situations. Concrete problems requiring concrete solutions are where he excels. When faced with Dean's stubborn refusal to take his place as his vessel, Michael finds an alternative in his half-brother Adam. It's only when faced with more abstract concepts that he flounders. Emotion in particular is a tremendous stumbling block for him. He's never been able to reconcile his love for his brother with his loyalty to God and his willingness to cast him out. He's come to see emotion as something problematic; something that clouds judgement and gets in the way of doing one's duty, and is therefore to be suppressed. When he finally faces Lucifer for their intended final battle, he's closed off and difficult to read.
One of the few emotions he still has difficulty controlling is anger. Michael is capable of maintaining a calm facade, but beneath that lies a fiery temper. He's quick to retaliate when truly offended, both in words and in actions, and there's no better way of angering him than speaking ill of his Father.
Despite his methods and his harsh treatment of others, it's important to note that Michael has the best of intentions. He's not cruel for the sake of being cruel, nor controlling because he enjoys subjugating others. He takes no pleasure in the suffering of his siblings or anyone else. All ills that he's forced to commit are necessary actions, in his mind: he's a firm believer in the end justifies the means. What God wants is more important than anything else, and if achieving it means annihilating three quarters of the Earth's population or murdering his own brother, so be it. Like any fanatic he's blind to all paths but the one presented to him by his faith. He believes that free will is merely an illusion and that any deviation from the prescribed course of events is merely a detour, just a matter of delaying the inevitable. Circumstances will eventually draw them back to the same endpoint regardless of their actions. It's most sensible for him, then, to stick to the plan and play the role God intended for him.

Angels get their abilities from a form of energy known as "grace." If their grace is removed, they become effectively human. Michael will arrive with his grace intact and he'll be capable of the following:
» True form/voice: Very few humans can perceive an angel's true form and voice. To those that can't, an angel appears as a blinding light. Looking upon it for only a few seconds can burn out the witness's eyes and staring for longer than that will usually lead to a quick yet agonizing death. Similarly, most humans will only perceive an angel's true voice as a painful, piercing sound. It's unlikely this will ever come into play unless Michael is forcibly evicted from his current vessel.
» Possession/vessels: Given the deadly nature of their true forms, angels must take a vessel in order to interact safely with mortal creatures. Unlike demonic possession, angels must acquire the consent of their host before taking them. Once they've settled in, though, they can usually suppress the human consciousness with ease and take total control of the body. As long as an angel inhabits their vessel, the body won't age, and they won't need food or sleep. Additionally, not all humans make suitable hosts: those that aren't strong enough will slowly break down or even explode when possessed by an angel. Being exceptionally powerful, Michael's options are exceptionally limited, and only three humans from a specific lineage have been shown to be viable options for him. Michael's current vessel, John Winchester, isn't his "true vessel," but he is of the correct bloodline and would theoretically be able to house him for an extended period of time without turning into human jerky. For these reasons, it's extremely unlikely that Michael would need or want to go body-shopping in game.
» Superstrength: Human bodies occupied by angels are supernaturally strong and durable. They can shrug off what would be fatal stab wounds to normal humans and can easily toss around larger opponents.
» Telekinesis: Pretty much what it sounds like. Angels can throw around objects and people alike without laying a finger on them. For the most part, I won't be having him take on anything larger than human-sized targets - no tossing around entire buildings.
» Telepathy/mind manipulation: Angels are able to communicate telepathically with one another. They're also able to read human minds and erase memories or implant new ones. This ability is especially one he won't be making use of unless I have permission from the other player.
» Dreamwalking: Angels can enter dreams and communicate with humans while they're sleeping. The amount of control they have over the dream is debatable, but they've been shown to be capable of disguising themselves as others within the dream.
» Healing/body manipulation: Michael can heal both himself and others, even if mortally wounded, and can bring people back from the dead at will. Angels can also reverse this power to inflict bodily harm, from removing organs to giving people cancer, and then just as easily undoing the damage. For the sake of game balance, I'll be assuming he can no longer bring people back from the dead.
» Exorcism/smiting: Angels can exorcise and kill demons simply by placing a hand on their foreheads. Michael has been shown to be able to use this ability even on other angels: he was able to burn out the angel Anna in a matter of seconds.
» Reality manipulation: Archangels can create their own pocket universes, ranging from a mere room to entire worlds, and can even trap people within them. This is a power that Michael isn't likely to make much use of, because frankly he just isn't that creative, but all the same he'll be limited to altering a medium-sized room. (I'll be honest: I just want him to be able to make his apartment look tacky and over-decorated.)
» Teleportation/flight: Angels can instantaneously teleport themselves or others from one place to another. It's implied that they do this by flying: their sudden appearances and disappearances are often accompanied by the sound of wings beating. Michael's range will be limited to in-game areas and he won't be able to fly himself home.
» Weather manipulation: Archangels have the ability to affect the weather where they appear, with effects ranging from something as simple as lowering the temperature a few degrees to summoning violent storms. I'll be limiting this to minor disruptions in his immediate area, if anything at all. (eg: the wind picking up, or a spike in temperature.)
» Time travel: Temporal manipulation will briefly incapacitate lower-ranked angels, but they can send themselves and others both forward and backwards in time. Michael's been seen to time travel without apparent strain. Again, for the sake of game balance and sanity, this is a power he won't be able to make use of.
» Supernatural perception: All varieties of angels can see demons' true faces, even when they're possessing a human host, and are able to identify a number of other supernatural creatures on sight.
In addition to his powers, he has a few notable weaknesses:
» Archangel blades: Although his vessel can be wounded and, with some effort, even killed, one of the few weapons that can kill Michael himself is an archangel blade. Each of the four archangels possesses one. Though they're hard to obtain, anyone can wield them - no supernatural inclinations or special powers required.
» Holy fire: A circle of burning holy oil can be used to contain an angel, since passing through the flames will kill them. Michael has been shown to be capable of surviving being lit up with holy fire, but it comes at a cost: it's agonizing, he'll need to repair his vessel, and it banishes him from the area for a few minutes.
» Enochian sigils: Enochian (angel language) symbols can be used against angels in a number of ways. There's an angel banishing sigil that must be drawn in blood, but will banish any angels in the area when used. There's a different set of symbols that can be drawn on walls to bar angels from entering a room or a building (blood isn't necessary for these ones). Another set of symbols, when tattooed on a person or carved into their bones, can prevent angels from locating that individual.
Items/Weapons:
- His archangel blade.
- The poor sap he's currently wearing.
- Said poor sap's clothing.

Sample Entry Two:
When Michael had felt the summons, he had expected to be greeted by the sight of his true vessel with a yes waiting on the tip of his tongue. Zachariah had a reputation for getting results; he wouldn't have chosen him as his agent otherwise. Instead, his arrival met with the ashy outline of Zachariah's wings burned into the walls and floor of the Green Room and a terrified Adam Milligan huddled by the door.
This was not the smooth unfolding of destiny they had planned.
Irritated, Michael assessed the damage. He looked down at the limp sprawl of Zachariah's vessel with a great deal less sorrow and a great deal more contempt than one might have expected of a loving older sibling discovering the body of their dead brother. The truth was that his patience with Zachariah had begun with his successes and ended with his failures - and this most recent effort was a crowning failure to a disastrous set of missteps in securing Dean as his vessel. He loved his younger brother as he did all of his brothers and sisters, of course, but he also saw them all for what they were: tools, instruments of God's will. Their value to Heaven lay in their ability to play their roles. He'd long ago discovered that emotion was a poor guide. It distracted them from the directives they were intended to follow, and made fulfilling their duties that much more difficult.
Still, Zachariah had at least been loyal to him and to their Father's designs, and that unquestioning devotion was becoming increasingly difficult to find in the younger angels. The loss was regrettable. He and Raphael had been forced to become ever more forceful with the punishments they doled out, swift to correct any signs of doubt in the ranks. They had seen and were still seeing the destruction that Lucifer's defiance caused, and he couldn't even begin to imagine the chaos that would ensue if any significant number of their fellow angels decided to follow their wayward brother's example. It was his duty both to their Father and to his siblings to protect them from that corruption of their faith.
Seeing nothing he could salvage in his dead servant, Michael turned his attention to the human trapped with him. Adam possessed none of the qualities that had made Dean an ideal container for his Grace - not his sense of responsibility, nor his prowess as a hunter - save for being of the Winchester bloodline. It would have to be enough.
"So," he spoke, "You must be Adam."
He needed a vessel, and he would have one. His Father's Plan demanded it.
