Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

Character Name: Ryan Evans
Canon: High School Musical
Canon Point: Post-High School Musical 3
Background/History: Entry on the wiki. But since that's also a pretty bare source…here is a more thorough write-up of the HSM history that's relevant to Ryan

Personality: Ryan Evans is someone whose personality seems to get overshadowed by Sharpay, but when he's separated from her long enough it's easy to see the difference between the twins. Ryan's an actor, first and foremost, so he knows exactly how to play people when he wants to. He knows how to fake sincerity and how to be gracious and how to be powerful when the time's right. When he's performing he cranks it up to an eleven, going over the top and almost borderline campy. Ryan takes his performance very seriously and uses it as a chance to showcase what he can do while knowing he's far more superior than most of the student body. However, when he's not on stage Ryan's actually a pretty decent guy. He doesn't have the same mean streak his sister does that seems to be permanently stuck in the "on" position.

Ryan's an incredibly driven person with very precise goals and dreams. In the third film it's announced that he applied to Juilliard for the dance program, but there are hints of this even as early as the first movie (namely, the mentions of the twins performing on Broadway and the New York t-shirt he wears.) He doesn't give up on his dreams that easily and he does whatever it takes to achieve them. Ryan's actually somewhat versatile in the sense that if something doesn't go according to plan he doesn't quit, but rather he just adjusts his plans to do something else. A prime example of this is when Sharpay tells him in the second film that she's cut him from their routine so she can sing with Troy. Initially Ryan's upset because his sense of familiarity's disappeared, but he immediately follows the suggestion of choreographing something for the other Wildcats to perform for the Star Dazzle Talent Show. At first, before he starts hanging out with the Wildcats under Gabriella's influence, Ryan's self-esteem hovers between "egotistical when needed" and "overly modest." It takes a lot of convincing and encouragement from the girl Wildcats to coax him out of his shell and get him to start to bond with his classmates.

Another thing that can be said is that Ryan's a very, very patient person. He's a lot more calm than his sister and among his friends later in canon he becomes the source of optimism. It's implied that prior to making friends with the other Wildcats, Ryan simply goes along with his sister's dramatics, allowing her to push him around and put herself first. He rarely gets a say in anything but he doesn't seem to mind. He's used to cheering up Sharpay and mellowing her out, but it's suggested that it takes a great amount of willpower not to flip out on her too. (Yoga's great for that, it seems.) Around the other Wildcats though he can be seen laughing and joking around, fully relaxed when he's in his element and actually very pleased to be acknowledged as his own person instead of a twin. He doesn't really have foul moods unless someone really challenges him or makes him feel like he's not good enough.

Prime examples of this are Sharpay and Chad Danforth. As soon as he realizes he has options, Ryan does't hesitate to stand up to Sharpay and prove he can manage on his own. With Chad, however, he's a little more devious. He's not one to show his entire hand in one go, which is proven later in the second film when he shows up at the staff baseball game and rises to the challenge of playing with the other boys. The Wildcats all assume that Ryan doesn't know how to play because he's just a dancer and he's Sharpay's brother, but Ryan goes into the game knowing he's got the advantage and his competitive streak shines. He hates coming in second place.

Ryan also has a little bit of a self-deprecating/sarcastic personality at times. He later mentions to Gabriella that he knows everyone sees him as Sharpay's poodle, but a lot of this trait comes out in Ryan's actions. When Ryan knows that nobody's actually paying attention to him he's prone to making faces and pretending to go along with everything while clearly feeling like everyone's lost their minds. Despite the fact that he loves his family fiercely and he's very close to them (particularly his sister and his mother), he's not above pointing out their flaws either. An example of this is when he and Sharpay interrupt their mother's yoga session and Sharpay screams about Fulton hiring the entire Wildcats team. While Sharpay yells and screams, eventually demanding that Ryan talk to their mother, Ryan joins his mother on the floor and talks about Sharpay like she's not even there. ("Tell Pumpkin if she worries too much, she'll get frown lines." "I told her twice.")

Even though he's his own person, one of the traits he and his sister share are their inability to take no for an answer. "No" is not really a word that's heard often by the twins and because of this Ryan's learned to be a little crafty in getting his own way. Examples of this also come from Chad during the second movie. Chad insists that he doesn't dance, but Ryan refuses to accept that as an answer and as such takes matters into his own hands to place a bet in a game of baseball. Another example is in the third movie with Kelsi Nielsen. Even though Kelsi insists that she's too busy to attend prom Ryan doesn't allow her to say no when he asks her to go with her. ("Speaking of prom, what're you doing?" "Well it's two days before the show. I'm writing orchestrations and fixing charts...I still have to write the lyrics!" "Great, I'll pick you up at 8.") Ryan doesn't let people off the hook that easily no matter how much he likes or dislikes them.

The thing about Ryan's personality is that while it generally hovers around "nice guy until you make him feel inferior", he's also good at shifting his moods to suit whatever is needed. He can be a great friend or a worst enemy depending on how he's feeling, but he's a lot more adaptable than people believe he can be.

Abilities/Powers: N/A. Ryan unfortunately is a very normal boy unless you count the fact that he's a good enough dancer to be accepted into Juilliard which means he's most likely more agile and flexible than your average teenage boy.

On the other hand, Ryan's musically inclined to where he can sing, dance, choreograph and play the piano. He's also pretty fast thanks to (what's implied as) years of baseball and he's physically stronger than he looks thanks to dance and yoga. There's also the fact that he can act, and he can lie to people's faces without breaking character.

Items/Weapons: Literally just the clothes he's wearing, plus his EHS class ring he always wears.
