We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

Personality:

"I thought the stars looked like they were about to fall."

When Clear is first introduced in the game, he's described as very strange in a haphazard and almost whimsical way: he meets Aoba for the first time after suddenly falling off the roof of a building, calls him "Master", and wears a gas mask. It's enough to scare anyone and Aoba, along with the others in the group, is initially quite wary of him. However, as the game progresses, Clear slowly develops from just the token comic relief character to a more well-rounded one with courage and a strong will to protect others.

Not much is revealed in the beginning about Clear aside from his vaguely airheaded, eccentric demeanor and his tendency to speak in "riddles", according to Aoba. He's cheery, he's polite, and sometimes can even come off as a crybaby at times, making him seem somewhat of a pushover. He also has a very energetic and childish personality, often getting excited over the smallest of things and providing a nice contrast to Noiz and Mink's stoic behavior. His cheerfulness and eccentricity (in not only his behavior, but the way he dresses as well) are usually what sets the others off about him and they're not quite sure what to make of him. This is explained later in his route: in truth, Clear is an artificial intelligence created by Toue who used him as his tool to brainwash people through Dye Music, a song that could literally "dye" people's brains. Being a robot, Clear views the world with a childlike curiosity and his concept of things such as life and death are very limited. In his route, he often asks Aoba questions about what happens to humans after they die and what it really means to be alive.

As Clear's route progresses, it's revealed that he has a lot of insecurities and is actually very emotional for a robot. He's very insecure about his appearance and he refuses to take off his gas mask for Aoba even after numerous requests. Initially, Clear's grandfather had told him to never take off his mask, leaving Clear to believe that people will come to hate him after seeing his real face. However, this mostly stems from the fact that Clear's grandfather wanted to protect him from being discovered by Toue, who had ordered Clear's disposal as a defective unit prior to the start of the game. It takes multiple reassurances from Aoba before Clear hesitantly takes off his mask, and the first thing he asks Aoba is if they look the same -- if he looks like a human and not a robot.

And that's essentially the root of his sort of existential crisis throughout the game. Clear wants to be alive, he wants to be regarded as a human and not a robot or a monster: a heartless, soulless being only to be used by his creator for destruction. Clear wants to feel like a human, wants to love like a human, and ultimately, wants to live like one. It's because of these reasons that he doesn't want to return to Toue and risks his life to protect Aoba from the alphas, cutting out his own key lock so he could fight back despite knowing that his body would deteriorate.

At his core, Clear is an almost painfully sweet being who just wants his loved ones to be happy. Though he knows that he will outlive everyone (and it's something that plagues him often), it doesn't stop him from taking the chance to show how much he cares about people, to live in the moment and not worry so much about what may happen in the future.

Abilities/Powers:

Being a robot, Clear possesses strength and speed above that of a normal human. As such, he can take as much as he can dish out, which is a hell of a lot, since he can fend off multiple gang members at once without them leaving so much as a scratch on him. The only time he actually sustains any damage is during his fight with the alphas, who, being advanced models, are ~~harder better faster~~stronger than him. What sets Clear apart from the others however, is his ability to sing the "Jellyfish Song": a song that negates the brainwashing effects of Dye Music. Aoba describes it as a gentle and calming lullaby, able to soothe the pain of his headaches and worries.

Items/Weapons: Just his clear umbrella, gas mask, and the clothes on his back.

Sample Entry Two: Clear had never required sleep. As a robot, it was unnecessary and he had always found it to be rather frightening -- what if, like his grandfather, he closed his eyes and never woke up again? So when the loud buzzing pierces the silence, Clear jerks up, the surprise that he was asleep at all in the first place startling him more than the alarm clock. Was it a malfunction? He looked down at himself, taking a moment to perform a mental inventory. Everything seemed to be there, all his parts in the right place; to his left on the bed rested his gas mask, his clear umbrella and what looked like a cellphone that had seen better days on his right. Seeing the gas mask reminded him of revealing his face to Aoba what seemed like mere moments ago and he immediately looked around, head turning left and right.

"Master? Master are you awake?" More silence greeted him, along with the unfamiliar faces of the other guests in the room. This definitely wasn't Glitter, he wasn't sure if he was still in Platinum Jail either.

"Waah... Master, this place is so scaaaaryyy..." his mouth twists into a frown as he sits up fully, setting his feet on the floor. Looking out the window, he sees the desolate city sprawling beneath him, but what really catches his eye is the billboard, mainly the couple holding gas masks; they look exactly like his. Holding up his own mask, he slowly slips it back on before tucking his umbrella back into his pocket along with the phone. He needed to find Aoba as soon as possible, he had a feeling this place was not safe. With that thought in mind, Clear headed out the door, his plaintive cries of "maaaaassster!" echoing through the hall.
